Myths and Legends of Jesus

from

Myths  and  Legends  of  Jesus

Special  Session   Riverside,  California

Uranda   March 16, 1947

When we pause to consider the fact that virtually all of the so-called world saviours, and many of the pagan gods, came into manifestation on earth, according to legend or history, through some type of Divine visitation to some woman especially set apart or perfected for such purpose, we have to come to some conclusion. It is not necessary to examine all such legends or stories in order to come to the truth. It is significant that the points of similarity that exist with respect to so-called world saviours in this regard, is limited to characters, real or legendary, who have had a tremendous influence upon the trends of thought and function of the people of the world down through the ages.

We recognize that there is some truth in every teaching that exists for any period of time, else it could not exist, and when we find any one point re-appearing in such a wide range with respect to so many different teachings and teachers, it seems to me that it is reasonable to suppose that there must be some basis in truth for such concepts, whether real or legendary, and that if there is such a truth then it is important that that truth be recognized so that the real meaning behind the stories may begin to have an influence in our lives.

With respect to all of these stories, the very fact that the concepts developed with respect to them have tended to make the people of the world feel these world saviours, or any one of them, to be something separate and apart from the world of humanity, having some special process of birth or origin which made it possible for that particular being to manifest Divinity, but which, according to the concept, likewise provides an excuse for humanity as a whole for failing to attain to such perfection; and causes the human mind to say that, if, in the case of Jesus for instance, He was born under such conditions He had it comparatively easy to achieve what He did, and because we are so separated from Him in the matter of birth, we are necessarily separated from Him in the processes of life—and there is a great gulf fixed insofar as the human consciousness is concerned, between that which the Master achieved and that which human beings can achieve. Thus it is that the devil, seizing upon a truth, presents it in a false light, and uses that very truth to defeat the purposes of the truth.

The so-called miraculous, or immaculate, conception of Jesus Christ is a matter that is controversial from the standpoint of religionists, and with many of them the point is established so thoroughly in prejudice that if it is even suggested that the meaning generally accepted is erroneous, anything else that may be said is rejected in advance. Therefore, to the degree that we can come free of any tendency toward prejudice in this regard, it seems reasonable to suppose that if there is any fundamental truth in the story of the birth of the Master Jesus, then He, being the greatest Teacher that the world has ever known, must surely have given something in his own words which should reveal or provide the key for, at least an understanding of the truth with respect to His manifestation in the world.

If Jesus neglected to provide a key to the understanding of any phase of His own revelation of Deity on earth, then how could He say, in His great prayer of intercession, as given in John 17: "I have finished the work which Thou gavest me to do"? Our time tonight does not permit our examining the whole Teaching of Jesus in search of the key, so I shall draw your attention directly to it. In John 14 we have a record of the Master’s words where He said: "The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself, but the Father Who dwelleth in Me, He doeth the works." During the Master’s Ministry He spoke often of His Father, and He spoke often of the Oneness of His Father and the manifest being whom we call Jesus, and in this text He says: "My Father Who dwelleth in Me, He doeth the works."

Human beings have lost the vision of their relationship to God. The Saviour was born to re-establish in consciousness an understanding of man’s relationship to God. Man, in the fallen human consciousness, thinks of his parentage as being limited to that generally recognized in the human sense—his earthly father and his earthly mother. The one point wherein man in the fallen state is permitted to participate in relationship to true Creative work in the physical sense, is with respect to procreation, but because of this fact man has tended to think of the whole matter as if it were a purely physiological proposition instead of recognizing that the one point where he is still permitted to have a relationship with true Creative work is still the point where he could, if he would, discover his fundamental relationship with God.

In the story of the Master's birth we have a presentation which is properly designed to take attention away from the earthly father, in order to establish a consciousness or awareness of the relationship of God to birth, not just the birth of Jesus Christ, but the birth of every man, woman and child on the face of the earth. It has always seemed to me to be utterly ridiculous to claim, on the one hand, that Jesus is supposed to be our example and then to claim, on the other hand, that He had a birth into the world so far different from that which we are privileged to have. If our birth into the world is so far different from His birth into the world, then God would be asking the impossible of us, to expect us to accept Him as our example, because if there was anything true with respect to the Master's birth that is not true with respect to our birth, then He is not our example—He is simply a Being so far separated from us, and so far above us, that there is no hope of our ever achieving that which He achieved.

But He, Himself, said: "The works that I do shall ye do also, and greater works than these shall ye do," thereby pointing out that that which He achieved we can achieve, and if we can achieve what He achieved, then that which was true of Him is true of us. It is not sacrilegious, on the basis of the Master's own words, to undertake to determine the truth with respect to His birth which will, at the same time, reveal the truth with respect to our birth, and if we recognize the truth with respect to our birth, we find that we are not so far separated from God that it is foolish and futile for us to accept Jesus Christ as our example.

The story of the Master's birth emphasizes rightly, to start with, that God was His Father. With the world consciousness as it was, and as it still is to such a high degree, there was no other way by which the truth of the Master's Divinity in relationship to His parentage could be focalized into the consciousness of the world in a way that would make it have vital influence in the attitude of the world. As the translation stands the wording of it does not necessarily give a clear indication of the truth of the matter, but rather tends to support the prejudiced viewpoint whereby the truth has been presented in a false light that defeats the purpose of the truth. So, the light wherewith we view this matter must come from the Master's own words. When He said that the works that He did were possible to us, and when l said that the Father within Him accomplished the works which He did, it is evident that He was recognizing the Father within us and recognizing that, to the degree that we let the Father do the works, the works of the Father would be done through us as surely as they were done through Him.

We recognize that in the processes of birth the physical seed is present, and must be present, and if that is true of us and we say that it was not true of Jesus with respect to His birth, then we set Him apart from us where His Life can have no real meaning to us, and that peculiar distinction which has been established in consciousness has caused His life to not have very much real meaning, even to the mass of people numbered in Christendom, because they have felt that lie was too far removed from them for them to achieve; therefore, under the direction of the devil they developed the idea of mere acceptance with the lips, assuming that that would be enough, that Jesus did it all and they would not have to do anything but believe with the lips. How convenient!—and how certain to bring failure and maintain the supremacy of the devil!

The physical seed was present with respect to the birth of Jesus. That may seem to you as an arbitrary statement on my part, and if you ask for Biblical proof I am not in position to give it, and prejudices tend to arise at this point and say that such an idea is utterly sacrilegious, but such prejudices are fostered by the devil so that he may maintain supremacy and defeat the purposes of the truth, and keep Jesus Christ from becoming the Ruler in the lives of men.

Let us go back a little. The fall came into manifestation through Eve, and she was promised that through her seed salvation should come. Woman represents the negative manifestation of humanity; man represents the positive phase of humanity; but humanity as a whole is represented as a woman in relationship to the positive expression of God. We have, for instance in Revelation, the Church and its membership of men and women forming the Bride of the Lamb. From the standpoint of the relationship in actuality, in the right sense of man and God, man and woman are one, and the two in oneness are negative to God so that in that absolute oneness of man and woman the manifestation of woman in relationship to God is made manifest, so that the fatherhood of God, working through the woman, manifest as the oneness of man and woman, permits the manifestation of the birth of the child as revealed in the case of Jesus Christ.

The perfect woman, insofar as this world is concerned, is the perfect manifestation or blending of man and woman, so that together they make a complete unit, and a unit that is negative or responsive to God, so that that which is of God may come through that one being into the world. This is the central, fundamental truth back of the story of the birth of Jesus, for the mother of Jesus, pictured in its idealism, simply symbolizes the perfect blending of man and woman. "They two shall be one flesh," and if they are one flesh they cannot be two pieces of flesh and separated, and considered as being distinct, one from the other; therefore, to the degree that we recognize that man and woman, as one flesh, become perfectly negative and responsive to God, then the fatherhood of God in relationship to birth or Creative activity on earth, becomes a reality.

Now it is true that the degree of perfection in this cycle was higher in the case of Jesus Christ than is true in the case of most human beings. Nevertheless, it is true for each child who is born of a love union. In that union the male and female are one flesh and they constitute the woman in union with God the Father, so that God the Father is the father of the child, and the recognition of the Father in the Divine sense is absolutely essential to a realization that we are not far from God, and that in Reality we can, if we will, let it be so, fulfilling the Master's words, "Verily, verily I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do, shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." How? On the same basis, by reason of which His works were made manifest. "The words that I speak unto you, I speak not of myself, but the Father that dwelleth in me, He doeth the works."

So here we have briefly, directly stated, the real truth back of the story of the immaculate conception, and when we recognize this truth we realize it is not ridiculous, nor is God asking the impossible of us for us to recognize that Jesus Christ is our example, and that we are to follow Him.

Here Is Our Mature Responsibility

Spiritual  Substance  Kept  Safe

Martin Cecil   April 19, 1979

In order to accept what it is that is coming down from God out of heaven in the moment there is the necessity to generate some spiritual substance, that there may be a means by which spirit can come within the range of our conscious awareness, and unconscious awareness too. Spirit is absolutely meaningless to human consciousness until there is this connecting substance. This was described as a sea of glass, clear as crystal. This is what this substance rightly is when it is generated by our own living, when our living is a reflection of such consciousness of spirit as may now be possible to us by reason of the extent of substance that has now been generated. There is always some substance with human beings as long as they are alive, so we all share a certain measure of spiritual substance. Being alive, we always have something to start with.

We ourselves have a certain awareness of the quality and character inherent in the spirit of God. We might recall some words which have come down to us in the record: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." There is that which is perfect available for expression insofar as each individual is concerned, but it comes down from God out of heaven; it doesn't leap up at us out of the earth. If we are frantically contending, one way or another, with the things that are leaping up at us out of the earth we have no capacity left to experience whatever it might be that is coming down from God out of heaven. So we remain in a state of darkness and frustration and futility, which is the common human state, is it not? It is the state of those who are honest enough to admit it.

So there is the essential generation of substance, which is the substance of connection between what is higher than human consciousness, what is in God, and that human consciousness. This is an internal generation, a generation of this very delicate, fine substance, which is quickly dissipated when the human state is characterized by what may be referred to as human nature; in other words by reaction to the earth and the things that are present in the earth, whether from the standpoint of physical form, or from the standpoint of mental form or emotional form, whatever. Here we see that the emotions cause that dissipation very quickly. To the extent of our emotional involvement in our circumstances, in what is happening around us, in what we imagine we perceive or see through the fog of our clutter, as long as we are reacting to that emotionally we are dissipating the spiritual substance.

It is said of this new state and experience of spiritual consciousness, that "There shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie." Here is indication of the fact that spiritual substance is dissipated when such characteristics of human nature are present. If the world of mankind is to be given the opportunity to come out of the state in which they have existed as long as human memory goes back, it can only happen on the basis of the generation of this spiritual substance in such measure that it is not only in a little restricted place within a person but is allowed to emerge out, the cup to run over, so that this spiritual substance is collectively shared by those who keep it holy within themselves. When there are those who keep it holy within themselves then it is safe for this spiritual substance to emerge beyond in the collective pattern of those who are so living, and they are responsible that nothing that defiles or works abomination or makes a lie should enter into that, because the very moment anything of this nature enters in, the substance is blown; it is gone. The individual may awaken shortly thereafter and say, "Oh I see what I did. Forgive me." Fine. Forgiveness is always offered, but the substance was blown. You can’t go back; you can’t get it to be the way it was before; it is gone.

There has never been this collective generation on earth for thousands of years. There has been repeated failure on the part of human beings to let it happen. Never has it been possible thus far to find even a few human beings who had sufficient integrity to let it happen. We are very much aware of what occurred two thousand years ago at the time of Jesus. Here was One in whom there was the generation of all that was necessary in the way of spiritual substance, and His life proclaimed it. It began to extend beyond Him a little by reason of the disciples and others, but how quickly they violated their trust. Here was subjection to the defilement which comes when human beings give rein to their emotions in reaction to external forms.

The heart is supposed to be pure, and open purely to what is coming down from God out of heaven, so that spirit is known, so that the reality is known. The very moment the heart is opened to the earth there is a violation of integrity and there is disaster. This disaster was obvious enough in the experience of that One, but He preserved what was within Himself. He never violated the substance that had been generated within Himself; He kept it holy; and because of that He carried through in the way which He did, something that is incomprehensible to human beings in human nature. He was true to the truth of Himself regardless of anything that human beings could do, regardless of anything that was thrown at Him out of the earth; and if anyone here imagines that they have worse things being thrown at them, let them think again!

The petty little nonsense to which human beings open their emotions is indeed ridiculous. We either are open to what is coming down from God out of heaven or we’re open to what is rising up at us out of the earth: one or the other; there is no in-between state. Only as we come again to the experience of integrity can what we are here to do be done.

What emotions grab hold of you yet most easily? We’ve listed them all in times past. The fearful—that is the most outstanding emotion to grab people, isn’t it? As long as we can be grabbed by these things we are not in position to play the part for which we are responsible in letting the holy city come down from God out of heaven; we are not in position to be perfect. Perfect love casts out fear. An openness to what is present of God allows the dominion of God to be experienced, and it is only on this basis that we generate internal to ourselves the essential spiritual substance which establishes a firm connection between spirit and what it is that finds expression in our living. When there is that connection, and it is consistent, stable, strong, there is sufficient internal generation of spiritual substance to begin to spill over. The cup runs over in our relationships with others who are letting this happen likewise. Then there begins to be something collective experienced and collectively we become responsible for this delicate spiritual substance which has filled the space of our collective expression.

We, each one, have the responsibility to be very sure that nothing that defiles or works abomination or makes a lie is allowed to enter in there. We will not have that assurance unless we have first allowed this to happen internally within ourselves, so that we are mature, responsible people, allowing the reality of perfection to be made known, the perfection that is already there to be brought forth in expression once there is the substance to facilitate it. If the substance isn’t there it can’t be brought into expression, and only imagination is left. There are lots of imaginative people in that sense; but what is the fact, what is the truth relative to our own experience?

There are those within whom there is a sufficient generation of spiritual substance connecting them with spirit to allow for the increased generation so that finally there may be a spilling over. These are, amongst the immense population of the world, rather few. They have been referred to in the Bible, and elsewhere, as "a remnant"very few. There is a remnant among the Christians, just as there is a remnant among the Jews, just as there is a remnant among the Moslems, just as there is a remnant amongst the peoples of the earth, whoever they are. I don’t know what the proportion would be—a thousandth of one percent, do you think, of the population of the earth? But everything depends upon these. The rest of the population are quite willing, and apparently content—although they complain a lot about it—to go down the drain. That’s what they expect. By the way, there is even a remnant among those who think of themselves as Emissaries! Think on that, so that no silly assumptions are made.

The remnant are those in whom there is already generated a sufficiency of spiritual substance to provide connection with spirit in a way that makes them discerning of the rubbish that is being peddled by human nature the world around. And I don’t care what department of human nature that may be; it is all rubbish! But there are those who sense within themselves the reality of spirit; they sense within themselves their own integrity. They may not know how to give it expression as yet, but when they observe what is going on around them they have sufficient discernment to see that it is not for them. Some of you—most of you, I hope—have that discernment, so that, looking at the things that were brought to you in your experience out of the world, you were not fooled by it. Maybe for a few moments you may have gone along with something, but pretty soon you began to see that it was rubbish, that it was phony. This is what characterizes the remnant. If there is such discernment there is a looking upon the heart, a seeing in depth, and the surface appearance of things doesn’t emphasize itself particularly.

There are those who drew close to what is finding expression by reason of this ministry and then began to look at the outer appearance of things and to judge that. If they did they were lost, because it is not the outer appearance of things that is important. Is it not spirit that has been consistently and constantly emphasized and stressed? Those who discern the spirit are not fooled by the outer appearance of things. They find themselves associated with what they know is true within themselves, and gradually there is a generation of increased substance, and this substance spills over. Then there are a few who begin to find an association with each other—something open, spacious, filled with this substance, this delicate substance. When this happens those concerned would not for anything allow what defiles or works abomination or makes a lie to enter in. They would die rather than do that!

Is that true of our experience yet? How safe is this delicate spiritual substance in our hands? Through this alone can what may be called salvation be offered to the world. Let’s allow the experience to come. But it only comes on the basis of the fact that there is this spiritual substance collectively held and safe with us, because anything of that filthiness of the human nature state allowed to enter in will dissipate that substance instantly. It has been millennia since there was any such substance on earth in the collective sense. There has always been the remnant in whom there was some substance individually speaking, but as long as it is locked in there individually speaking it is not of much value. It must come out into expression; it must spill over; and the purpose of this particular ministry is to assist in whatever way possible to allow the increased generation to occur, so that this substance might spill over and we might have something to work with, something for the Lord to work with.

Here is our mature responsibility. If the substance within ourselves is not safe the substance external to ourselves is not safe. If at any point emotions take charge we not only dissipate the substance for which we are responsible in ourselves but we open the door for the dissipation of it everywhere else. How often in times past we’ve had to go back to square one, as I’ve put it, because there was virtually no substance left, and begin all over again. What futility! Why not be honest and stable and consistent because the spirit is stable and consistent and honest, and we associate with that. Let the former things pass away because our concern is with the truth, is with the holy city coming down from God out of heaven, to be experienced in our living moment by moment by moment. How safe is this precious substance in our hands? Are we willing, if we have associated more closely with the expression of spirit because of the increased generation of substance, are we yet willing to jeopardize everything in favor of some emotion that comes up to take charge?

I was speaking of the Lord of Love, who incarnated on earth in the form of Jesus. He came to offer resurrection to the whole human race; that is what He came to offer. In a backhanded sort of way Christianity has recognized this. But He came to offer it then. He was rejected then because those concerned were still subject to their emotional sprees, and so all He had left was to do the job just in Himself. That is not what He came to do but it was all that was left to Him. So He did it from within Himself. He never violated His own spiritual substance. He carried through on that basis and He opened a door because of that, that is true; but the door means nothing to human beings unless they will go through it. But to go through it they have to generate their own substance. They can’t slide through on the coattails of Jesus, which is what most Christians have tried to do. It is impossible; it doesn’t work! Each individual must do it for himself or it isn’t done.

When there are those individuals, the remnant presumably, who let it happen in themselves, then it becomes a collective thing. But it must be the individual thing first, so that the substance is generated, the individual proves that he can be trusted with that substance within himself, and then it is allowed to spill over; because once it spills over it becomes a collective responsibility, and the action of anyone, any one of those who have been responsible for making it possible for it to spill over, is also responsible for disaster if there is a violation of trust. We are responsible for each other; we let each other down, besides destroying ourselves.

So let us see these things clearly, and for those who hear the word of spirit truly, let the substance be generated and let it spill over and be kept safe, that this spiritual substance may be on earth once again within the range of human consciousness. To exist there it must be protected, and this is the responsibility of those who may be counted among the remnant.

Earth and Sky

Earth  and  Sky

Uranda   November 19, 1944

As the earth and the sky have meaning by reason of each other, so is it with man and woman —

and as the sky circumscribes the sphere of the earth's function,

so does woman set the scope and the limits of man's function in the earth.

All too often the woman bewails the limited scope of man's function within the limits she herself set,

and few are the men who have the strength and the courage to ignore and transcend

the unreasonable limits of the sphere which short-sighted women establish.

Blessed is the man who has the inspiration of a woman whose vision is so far reaching

that the world becomes his sphere of service,

and yet is content to live with him in such temporary limits as circumstance may inscribe.

The  Mystery  of  Physical  Birth

from

The  Mystery  of  Love  Unveiled  #1

Uranda   1937

Now let us consider the mystery of physical birth from the female. The man and woman who are drawn together in true love, and are mated from the standpoint of divine law, are so constituted that they balance each other, so that each makes up for the lacks in the other. Thus they blend into one, as a complete whole. The man will average from 60 to 90 percent masculine and positive, with the remaining 10 to 40 percent being feminine and negative. The woman will average from 60 to 90 percent feminine and negative, with the remaining 10 to 40 percent being positive and masculine. There are a few extremes which go beyond these figures, but most people will come somewhere within them. Thus a masculine woman will attract a feminine man, and a very masculine man will attract a very feminine woman. This is nature’s way of balancing people.

In the physical expression the woman is negative and has the most to do with bringing physical children into the world, while the father, being positive, has very little to do with bringing children into the world. This is reversed in the mental plane. The importance of this point is found in the fact that the receptive phase of expression is the one which brings forth creation. Here in the physical planes we find an important key by which we may understand the secrets of creative force on the higher planes of being.

The negative is always external to the positive. In other words the positive forms the center of force, while the negative surrounds the center of force as the body thereof. To understand the creative force which allows physical birth, man and woman must be considered as one. As long as they are thought of as two the mystery cannot be understood. When they are seen as the two halves blended into one it becomes understandable. Considering now the one, we see the negative female-half as the body in which the positive male-half functions. The woman-half completely surrounds the man-half, and in the physical planes she is the body and he is the soul. In the mental plane this is reversed, as we shall see.

Since the woman-half is the body for the man-half here in the physical planes, reproduction of the physical must take place in the woman-half. In the physical planes the man-half has a body only as he expresses through the woman-half. Therefore the man-half furnishes the soul seed which makes possible the birth of a physical child. When the woman-body receives the soul seed from the man soul under the right conditions, that is, when body seed or ovum is present and the Spirit Soul is present at the same time so that it projects the focalized point of its light body into the soul seed supplied by the man-half, conception takes place and the body of the child begins to form. When the child body is sufficiently formed, which is at about four and one-half months, the Spirit Soul that was present at the time of conception enters into the child body and the mother feels the fluttering of life in her womb.

The Spirit Soul which is to incarnate in the child body which is being formed is always present during all the period of gestation, from conception onward, and it furnishes the pattern for the body that is being formed. The Spirit Soul furnishes a perfect pattern, and if the mother furnishes the right materials for the formation of a body, and if the father has furnished perfect soul seed, the child body will be perfect in every respect according to the pattern furnished by the Spirit Soul which is incarnating. If the soul seed is imperfect, or if the mother does not furnish the right materials from her food, through a clean, wholesome body, the child body will be imperfectly formed and will not attain to the perfection of the pattern furnished by the Spirit Soul. Here is the secret of conception. There is here much food for thought and study. This shows the part that is played by the mother, by the father, and by the soul that is incarnating into the child body, and how these three elements must be taken into consideration in order to understand the mystery of physical birth. When either the father or the mother fails to do their part the perfect pattern does not come forth into manifestation. The Soul always does its part well, so that the result depends upon the halves that should be one.

Thus we see that the man-half furnishes the soul seed which allows the Spirit Soul to begin to function in the body seed, or ovum, which is supplied by the woman-half. The Spirit Soul has no means by which it can impregnate the body seed in the woman-half until the soul seed supplied by the man-half has entered into the body seed of the woman-half, for the soul seed forms the connecting link between the body seed in the woman-half and the Spirit Soul which is incarnating. Thus we see that the Spirit Soul is the true father of the babe, and that the man-half only furnishes the soul seed which allows the Spirit Soul to impregnate the body seed with life.

The life which causes the child body to develop and grow comes from the Spirit Soul. The father and mother of the child do not supply the positive life force, although they do supply the negative life force. These are the unveiled mysteries of physical birth from the woman. Understanding these things, we see why it is that the sex organs are the most sacred organs of the body, and why it is that misuse of them is so disastrous in result. Also it is clear that the right use of the sex organs will help to draw one into a higher spiritual life and increase the responsiveness of the individual to the Soul within himself, that the perfection of the Soul may fill his whole body.

This brings us to a study of conservation of the sex energies. Conservation does not mean “to hoard,” but it does mean “to use wisely without waste.” True conservation is the right use of the sex energies, so that the individual may receive the greatest possible joy, happiness and success in life. The energies which are released within our bodies are directed into the channels of expression to which we give most of our attention. This is the key to conservation. The average person gives a great deal of attention to his body desires and appetites. Consequently most of the average person’s energy is used in satisfying his body desires. The only satisfactory method of redirecting the sex energies is through a change of the thoughts, so that the attention is held steadfastly on spiritual attainment. In order to do this successfully it is necessary that we understand the mysteries of creative power on both the mental and spiritual planes of expression.

These subjects will be fully covered in the next lessons, so that when you have completed your study of them you will be in position to apply the laws of conservation to your own life and realize the joys and blessings that are poured out upon those who look to the spiritual for pleasures that are real and lasting.
