A Place Prepared

A  Place  Prepared

Martin Cecil   November 27, 1983  pm

I will not be here in person next Sunday. We will no doubt be moving together closely in spirit, as should always be the case, service or no service. The statement is made, “Behold, I make all things new.” Our immediate concern is to allow the preparation of a facility on earth by which this may take place. “Thy kingdom come.” The question might be asked as to how. There are two possibilities here: Get the block out of the way and let the kingdom come, or transform the block so that it is no longer a barrier to the coming of the kingdom. The block of course is human nature.

This morning [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2020-03-17T04:01:00-07:00&max-results=2] we were considering the fact that no matter what may be done to improve that state of affairs in human beings it does not allow for what must transpire. The kingdom state is a new state, unprecedented in human experience and unknown. If something needs to be done, as it certainly does, with the state that now is, it is to prepare the means by which the new state may appear. This is not an evolutionary process as usually thought of in human terms. It is not a matter of improvement of the present state so as to get it to be what is required for the new state. That could never happen. If there is to be a cleansing and purification of the heart, the human heart, it is to allow the new state to put in an appearance: it is not an end and aim in itself. It’s not as though we were just polishing up our act so that we’d have a better act.

Human beings were created to provide the equipment by which the real state may be present in human experience on earth—in the experience of man on earth. What that would be is unprecedented and unknown, but it does require the draining away of the present state, so that the present state no longer exists. “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away.” This is rather a direct statement of what must happen. It seems impossible, because from the human standpoint we’re inclined to cling to the old state, imagining that if this state that we now know were to disappear there would be nothing present. Well there would be nothing present in the consciousness of those who know nothing but the old state. If there is nothing present in consciousness there isn’t any consciousness.

We have an understanding of the way things work, up to a point. What actually happens has never happened, certainly not in our experience. There has been an endless round of repetition on earth, with all the various types of ideas that have been present in human consciousness whereby their lot in the human state might be improved. All sorts of techniques and methods have been developed for what is in fact self-improvement. All sorts of political systems and social systems have been tried out over the ages, time and time again. Of course these things tend to be forgotten in the dim recesses of the past, and people in any given generation are inclined to think that what they’re doing is all fresh and new when in fact it is an endless, senseless repetition springing out of the past, because all human activity springs out of the past. We have a certain understanding of these things—I do not need to rehearse all the details of the reason why all this is so, because you have a certain understanding. There are many things which we need to consider. I have to assume that a majority of people present understand what I’m talking about. We have to keep moving in spite of the fact that there may be those present who don’t understand; no progress could possibly be made otherwise. Perhaps some have forgotten the Class work of the past—maybe they should go again! There is a basic understanding that is needful, a foundation one might say, from which one may proceed into more rarefied atmosphere. We need to stand on the earth upright, being in the spirit—that is the more rarefied atmosphere.

But there is an earthly foundation to stand on, things we need to know. One of the things that is quite important is to understand the language—English in this case. Here is a foundational requirement. English is increasingly becoming a universal language, and this has some significance spiritually speaking. The English language lends itself very well to clothe the spirit; some other languages don’t lend themselves so well. So we always have to move on from a level where there are a sufficient number of people who are capable of functioning at that level. This has its drawbacks because there may be those present who imagine that they are capable of so functioning but who really aren’t, and who therefore tend to be going off on tangents of their own devising in interpreting what it is that is being conveyed. If we actually receive what is being conveyed of the Word it needs no interpretation. We only have to begin to interpret it into particular concepts because we don’t understand, and because as human beings we feel much safer with concepts. It fools us into imagining that we understand. The concepts need to dissolve. All that is necessary is the form of the moment, not a persistent concept which crystallizes into patterns of belief and all the rest. As that crystallization takes place motion ceases.

We are concerned with the fluidity of spirit, and spirit creates its own forms in the moment for what is required in the moment. We have the opportunity of functioning in the current of the spirit; that is, moving fluidly with the forms which spirit creates. The forms which spirit creates are always living forms, and one obvious quality of life is change. So we never get stuck, crystallized, with particular forms which may have been living forms when they were first brought forth by spirit, but having been taken hold of by the human mind, pretty soon the life is squeezed out and we have a sort of mummified state. We are concerned with the fluid movement of spirit which puts in an appearance in the moment, here and now—nowhere else, never anywhere else. It has been doing this for a while apparently, and it is still doing it, but always here and now—in the moment. Here is the point of fusion—here and now, the place and the time of fusion, not next week. Tomorrow never comes. It is always today. Amazing, isn’t it, how it works! Well we would be intelligent to accept the way it works. The only time we can live is now, exactly where we are. So we participate in this fluid process, discovering the point of fusion.

What is to be, the state that is to be, can only be as there are those who discover the point of fusion. You can’t discover this point of fusion by trying to carry forward anything out of the past. There will be those things that are present out of the past but we do not give them any particular weight. What is necessary is that spirit should have the opportunity to make use of whatever it is that has been brought out of the past, to provide the form in the present. Human beings can’t do that; they try to. All the forms that human beings have made are dead forms, except in the realm of their own species; but everything that human beings make is dead, and as soon as it is made it starts to disintegrate. The true creative process is based in the movement of spirit, spirit which gathers together the substance that is needed to provide the living form of the moment. This is not something that is comprehensible to most people. It isn’t comprehensible because they never had the experience of it; they never participated in the process. You have in some measure participated in that process, and while you may still cling to many of the crystallized factors that you imagine make you safe, still part of your experience does include the movement of spirit creating its own forms. We are sharing something of this sort in this moment.

Unlike many good ministers, I didn’t prepare my sermon on Thursday last. We have to participate in the working of it. Now it’s not just me; it’s all of us together participating in the process by which spirit assembles the substance that is needful to give form in the moment to what is required in the specific expression of creative purpose. I don’t do it alone. You’re all necessary—I’m necessary—we are all part of the process by which spirit is allowed to take form, in this instance more specifically in words but there are other aspects to it too. I don’t stand absolutely rigid here when I’m speaking, and I don’t see you absolutely rigid. Sometimes, mind you, there are some rather fixed expressions; but if there is participation in the movement of the spirit that is impossible. You can’t hold it! The only way you can hold it is to get spirit out of the way, to lapse into a coma perhaps, or something of the sort. So the spirit moves, picks up the available material, reveals itself in a smile or in whatever, and there is something alive.

For this to work as it is designed to work through man, male and female, it requires that there be those who are at the point of fusion between the fire from above and the fire from below. We have recognized that individually speaking there are these two aspects of love present. In the male, the fire from above should be dominant; and in the female, the fire from below. This is a general statement, because both male and female aspects are present in each; but it reveals a design. The fire which we have seen in symbol rising up from the core of the earth is the love that rightly fills and envelops the female aspect, whether it is a female as such or whether it is simply the female aspect in a female or the female aspect in a male. By the same token, the fire that is descending from above finds focus in the male aspect, whether the male aspect of a man or the male aspect present in a man or present in a woman. In the general sense we can see that male and female are the representatives of these two aspects of the flame. And the fire is the fire of fusion. So we may recognize the natural blending that rightly takes place between male and female. This is essential to fusion. Fusion takes place within each individual but it also takes place between people—basically between angels. So the fusion in this sense may be recognized as allowing for a very great intensity of heat and light—the current flows and there is heat and light. These have something to do with love and truth. The fusion takes place. It is a reality already insofar as love and truth are concerned. You can’t actually separate them, and now it begins to be experienced in this facility which was created for the purpose, man.

This has something to do with sex, a very hot subject in the consciousness of many. I trust that we can approach it without unnecessary heat—it is well to see it in the manner of its emergence as we are concerned with this matter of fusion. As I have indicated, the female rightly provides the facility for the rising up of the fire from the core of what is below, the earth. We can think of it in terms of the planet itself. On this basis there has been what has been called intuition, a perceptiveness of a kind which is properly present but which has become distorted because of the crust of the heart, so that it is not very dependable. There is something here that is part of the experience of the ascending flame— an association more closely with the earth and a perceptiveness in that realm. Insofar as the male is concerned the core fire of the solar system symbolizes the aspect of love for which he is responsible.

These two aspects of love proceed from the same source and they fuse again together in man. This is the basis for the power of fusion. The power of fusion involves what human beings call sex, without understanding it, as there is individual representation of these two aspects of the fire. From this viewpoint we may recognize how the creative power is rightly present in man, so that the fact of dominion is made evident. Man is in the position of rightly holding dominion over the earth and all that is therein, administering the creative cycle which is at work. It isn’t at work because of man—it is at work anyway—but he has the responsibility of administering it, and he has the power to do so. This is the true state of man. I touch on these things to open a door to a sensing of something that is available to the experience of both male and female. The experience is not coming because you have a concept about it. It is coming because you don’t, because there is space for it to happen.

We have to keep moving from the known into the unknown. If that doesn’t happen, nothing is happening. If we feel safe staying with the known we’ll decay and, like the first heaven and the first earth, pass away. So we have to keep moving, and always, when we begin to move into the unknown in a specific way, there is a certain trepidation. There is also a certain reluctance, or a certain resistance: “What’s going to happen now?” Much of our training in times past has been designed to make it possible for us to be confident in our trust. Clearly, if something is being born of the spirit in each moment it is going to be fresh and new in each moment. Therefore we need to become accustomed to letting it be fresh and new in each moment, rather than imagining that we are safe if we get it slowed down so that it just creeps along like molasses in January—then maybe we can stay with it. We’ll stay stuck on that basis.

The days are rightly shortened, aren’t they? That means something about speeding up, and as we look around we wonder just how much more time we have anyway. There are ominous clouds on the horizon, maybe a bit closer than the horizon. Well we are not staring at these ominous clouds and shivering in our boots but considering what has to be done to allow the new state to come. What has to be done is not merely to polish ourselves up somehow so that we’re better people, whatever that would mean, but to prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight, to allow the coming of the unknown. Clearly the known is going to hell in a hand basket! The unknown is a lot safer, and I think we are beginning to realize this, so that we may concern ourselves with the unknown that puts in an appearance momentarily.

Human beings in their present state like to have things all laid out into the future. Calculations are being made as to how much electricity will be used ten years from now. That was done back along the way and came out wrong. All these prognostications that human beings are making—hopefully there is still a world there—mean very little to us, because we are concerned with something else that is happening which those who indulge in their prophecies don’t take into account at all. What we take into account is what is born moment by moment, the King of glory coming in, in the moment. And it is that that allows the fusion to take place and the experience of blending to become known in the specific field of responsibility that is carried by those who stand at the point of fusion.

I open a door a little wider this evening, so that all concerned may be prepared to participate in the preparation for the changes that need to occur within ourselves which will provide equipment for the new state. The changes are not the new state. There is transformation going on. Some of us have been aware of it. Some have been a little proud of what has been happening, but anything that happens in this way is simply preparation for what is needful to occur by which the new state may put in an appearance. It is the only reason for what is going on, because what is going on is going on in the old state—it’s not the new state, and no amount of goings-on in the old state makes it into the new state. It simply prepares a space so that the new state can put in an appearance, and the new state puts in an appearance as there is the fusion which takes place within ourselves as individuals and between ourselves.

Now don’t start developing concepts as to what that means. Nobody knows what it means until it is actually experienced. Just let it come. Whatever it is it will be all right. There is nothing to be afraid of, because it is the creative process. Let’s stay aligned with it and we are all right. Resist it, get off on a tangent, and we may be in trouble. Certainly human beings are in trouble everywhere. I don’t know whether you realize how little we are in trouble compared to what is the case for human beings everywhere. This is something very wonderful, to be deeply thankful for, that there are the beginnings of an island, shall we say, of sanity in the midst of this irrational human state.

It has been useful to touch into these things so that we may relax a bit and not be so afraid, in fact possibly even begin to welcome what is happening with delight. I don’t know whether you have prayed a lot in times past. Of course prayer is simply the state of the human heart. It is not the words that are mouthed, but the state of the heart will determine what happens. Prayers are always answered, but most people don’t realize what it is they are praying for. They think of the prayer as, “Please God, do this, do that.” Well I don’t think there is anybody listening to that sort of a prayer. A prayer is what is going on in the individual’s heart, what is the fact with respect to his heart or her heart; but fundamentally there is the answering of prayer coming now for those who are pure in heart. “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”

A pure heart allows for the presence of an angel on earth, and angels—it’s a word descriptive of something transcendent—angels know each other. You discovered that, didn’t you, at least a little bit? Angels know each other. They love each other. It doesn’t require a great display of something to make sure that everybody knows how much they love. It is the natural state. It doesn’t have to be particularly emphasized. Only where there is an absence of love does one have to keep pounding at it: “Tell me you love me! Tell me you love me!” What difference does it make what anybody says? What is the fact of the matter?—that’s the question. The angelic hosts blend together in love. It is the natural state of being, no big deal. There is fire, certainly, but fire doesn’t burn fire.

So we rejoice to share this process of preparation, that there may be on earth a facility which is capable of accommodating the true state. There is no such facility adequately present on earth yet. This is obviously so, because the true state is not yet being accommodated—but it will be, and we have the opportunity of playing a part in the process of letting it be so. Obviously all these things are understood somewhere; it is not something that is happening blindly. It is all comprehended, not by puny little human minds but by the spirit of the living God. As we share the expression of that spirit we comprehend what we need to comprehend, and that also includes not comprehending what we don’t need to comprehend, so don’t fuss about that. We move together in this one spirit now to let what needs to happen happen. I thank God for you and for others who are participating in the creative process and coming into position increasingly to administer it.

Ron Polack — Martin, I would like to offer something complementary from the point of fusion. I appreciate this opportunity that we all have, and many others too, to move with you in this process of preparation, that what needs to come may come. I delighted in the marvelous things that were said tonight, not—and being very careful not—to bring them together in a conceptual way to add to the bag of concepts, but that each thing that was said was in fact an open door to the point of fusion. Over and over again today I have heard the words that were attributed to the Master, “that where I am, there ye may be also.” And I think of that in terms of why you are on earth now and why we are all here, and the constant open door that you provide for us to be in that place with you, because only so can we do what needs to be done. Obviously, if you are there and we are looking at you afar off, what’s the point? That happened two thousand years ago, and from the standpoint of the collective movement it was a waste of time. Well we wouldn’t waste the Lord’s time in this case. We are among those who have the ability, already prepared and trained, to be with you where you are at this point, and I love that sense of movement and fire in being there with you.

Martin Cecil — I'm sure that we all love to be together and to find a dawning awareness of a state of experience which is beyond human belief. We don’t need to believe in anything, just to experience what is available to be experienced in each present moment where we are. And so we rejoice in the midst of the flame, which is found to be a cool spot, but it is surrounded by heat and radiant light.
