Those of you who have been here at the Ranch will recall that some time ago [Cycles of Outpouring and Illumination April 7, 1946] I gave instruction concerning the pure point of awareness which becomes suspended in the present instant. Vibrating in expectancy, there comes a point where there is a silence that is, as it were, pregnant with something yet to take form. You do not know what that form is. There is simply an expectancy of one-pointed love response to the Lord, and what we may call a pure point of awareness that is suspended in this present instant.
From the standpoint of your consideration of the Laws and Principles which have been, and are, taught in the Third Sacred School, you will readily see the potentialities inherent in such a simple arrangement. The channels of alignment are provided for the operation of the One Law under the control of the LORD of Lords, properly polarized with respect to Eternity, the human mind not attempting to put forth the pattern on which the form shall appear, but letting the Spirit direct the control of the Current through the Truth Divinely established for the uses of God in such a moment.
There comes a point in our focalization and coordination where there is a silence—of the outer, of course. My voice may be sounding in it or not. In other words, you come to realize that I can talk in that silence without disturbing that silence. There comes a point in the crossing, in the focalization of union between Heaven and earth, where there is a silence, in which we share on a unified basis, a silence of the outer which is pregnant with something—you do not know what. You do not try to figure out what; you do not try to speculate; you are not concerned; you are content that there is what I have called a pregnant silence. Then your function is to abide in what I have called expectancy—not that you are expecting something that you might describe; that is, as far as you are concerned you do not know what you are expecting—but there is an air of expectancy, rather than being expectant of something.
On the vibration, you will come to the point where you can hold steady for longer and longer periods of silence because you are not afraid that I have forgotten what I was going to say. There is no cause for restlessness. You are resting in that focalization of love response to the Lord in a silence, whether I am speaking or not, that is expectant with respect to waiting upon the Lord, without trying to make anything manifest according to a preconceived pattern. In this expectant silence, you simply become, as a member of the One Christ Body, what I have called a focalization, or a focalized point of pure awareness. You are not, properly, asleep in that state and yet you are not thinking in the sense of trying to figure out what is going to be said, what is going to happen, what was said, or what is happening over yonder, or what William or Charlie is doing, or someone else. There is just a focalization of pure awareness in this sea of expectant silence, all in love response to the Lord.
Do you see in this the application of the Laws and Principles which you have been taught in the Third Sacred School? It is bringing the application of these Laws down to a fine point. The whole thing becomes unified. You cannot divide one from another, but you see blended in this all of these fundamental Laws and Principles in one point of application. To the degree that you abide in love response to the Lord, and let go to the Spirit of the word that I am privileged to speak as you come to that state, you provide a wide open channel for the expression of the power of God into the earth, according to His Will. We have reached a point, as members of the One Christ Body, where we have absolutely no fear of His Will. Is that not true? We are perfectly willing that His Will should be done on earth as it is in Heaven; then we have no desire to impose our will upon that Current of Creative Activity being made manifest at any given time. This is, in essence, the process of letting. Do you see that that is true? Does that help you to a better understanding of what letting is? In connection with Creative Activity, God said: Let there be so and so, did he not?
I shall undertake to describe something, in principle, of the way this process works in actual Creative Function, with a simple request first that you avoid attempting to develop conclusions as to how it is, or shall be. This is an outline, not to give you a picture in the complete sense, but to reveal the relationship of the Principles involved.
We recognize God to be the Unit of God Being, the many Members of the One Christ Body of God. As you have begun to let yourselves enter into the Unit of the One Christ Body, so that in the blending of the many Members, we have that One Christ Body, you come to a deeper realization of the Body of God, the Unit which is God, made up of the many Members of the God Beings in that Unit. Is that true? You feel that more clearly than heretofore.
In the Creative Processes, before the Negative focalizations were created in the Negative Triune World, it was obviously necessary, within the Body of God, or God Beings, to have both the Positive and the Negative points of polarity in their proper position. The One Christ Body on earth is made in the image and likeness of God. On this level, the Head of the Body is the Positive point of polarity, to which the Body as a whole is Negatively responsive. Then we have in manifest formation that which is patterned after the Body of God. The Head of the Body here is, in turn, completely Negative to the appointed focalization in the higher realms, to the LORD of Lords. You know, through your experience along the way, that that focalization and alignment has been proven over and over again to be absolute and continuous.
Going back to the Body of God with respect to Creative Activity in the beginning of things, the Word of God would be that which was expressed by the Head of the Body of God; and that would be the expression of the Body as a whole, just as we, as one Unit, form One Body, and my expression here is the expression of the Body. Nevertheless, in that expression of the Positive point of the Head, the expression was to-and-through the Negative phase of the Body of God, just as you find it here made manifest. When God, the Head of the Body, the LORD of Lords, expressed the words, “Let there be light,” His word was spoken to-and-through the Body of which He was, and is, the Head. The letting, then, had to be on the part of the Negative phase of the Body of God. The Positive Head did not let. He expressed the words, “Let there be,” then the responding Body of God provided the focalization in the Creative Currents which permitted letting to be a reality.
That means that these God Beings forming the Negative focalization of the Unit of God Being, or of God, became those pure points of awareness, suspended in that present instant in the silence that was pregnant with expectancy, each God Being on an appointed Vibration. Then the Creative Word expressed by the Head let, caused, the appropriate Negative points in the Body of God to let the Response come forth to the Head on the basis of the word spoken, with the result that the cycle was set up by that word, and by that letting, on absolute or completely controlled Vibrations, which were exact as to their nature and formation. That Current established, then, on exact Vibrations was the Spirit moving in the Truth, the Current in the formation, the Spirit in the Truth. The exactness of the Nature of the formation, the exactness of the Vibration of the Current, caused the unformed to respond, or that which was formed in the lower vibrations to respond, and as the Current touched that specific vibratory rate of being, to draw that substance into form around the Spirit of the form, which was patterned according to the Truth.
And so, in brief outline, with respect to the primary Principles to remember in the operation of the One Law, you behold the means by which the world was brought forth. And man was created in the image and likeness of God. We see that as Jesus Christ, the manifest expression of the LORD of Lords, established in embryo, as it were, that perfect form in the earth, and that perfect pattern, He opened the way whereby many members might be drawn together according to that pattern, in the Current of that Spirit, to express Life. It was not required that any one individual alone should achieve the absolute fullness of that, to the point of actual manifestation, of wielding power in relationship to the whole world. It was simply required that individuals should be drawn together, so that they would let the Reality that was in them be blended into One Christ Body in focalized Love Response, so that the Body would begin to let. Does this open up anything for you?
What I was asking, to begin with, was that you begin to practice, as members of the One Christ Body, the Art of Letting from the standpoint of the One Christ Body, the manifestation of the Divine on earth, for the purposes of releasing the power, according to Divine Will. Does that complete a cycle, so that you see?
What is that First Commandment? “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” You are to love the Lord with everything that you are. Put that First Commandment into this picture that we have been drawing, and the whole thing fits, does it not? You see that we have something that by its very Nature, if there is a God, must work. And there is no question in our minds as to whether there is a God, is there? Then it comes down to the point of absolute assurance; not blind faith, hope or wish: but on that basis you see the foundation of that expectancy which I mentioned. It is not that you know what you are expecting, but there is a feeling of expectancy that is faith; or we might put it another way; it is the highest manifestation of faith as it works in Reality, although we would hardly call it faith in the ordinary sense.
It is more than just being receptive; it is something that is absolutely polarized, alive and vivid. One can be completely positive, and be receptive. This is in no sense positive; of course, it is receptive, but that is a far cry from describing what I am talking about, because here it has to be alive and vibrant; in a sense, filled with that Fire of what we might call Divine Passion. It is there waiting to be used as and when the Lord shall find it correct to do so. On that basis, you begin to have a deeper understanding of this feeling realm.
Another point: You will note that in the Third Sacred School you have something that is absolutely unique in the whole world. From this standpoint, as well as from others, we insist that it be not allowed to go off on a tangent, that is, simply feeling on the one hand, or simply intellectual cognition on the other hand. It is required to be the balance of these two in the highest possible degree, and if it starts going off on a tangent in the feeling realm, you find me emphasizing the awareness realm in the intellectual sense, and vice versa. As you look back from this moment through the years, you will see that weaving, as it were, back and forth, bringing the Divine Pattern into manifestation in the tapestry of life. Now that pattern begins to appear in a balanced form. There were times when it looked to you as if it were getting too much over this way, or too much the other way, or something was getting left out. Now, as you come into the focalization where that tapestry is beginning to appear in its fullness, do you see a lack of symmetry? No. You find a balance that begins to show the artistry of the Absolute Pattern.
You have heard me make reference to the Activity of God on earth, in which you were to share. You probably imagined that you would be going out here as an individual, somewhere, doing this, that and the other thing; or else some person would be given a special commission somehow, to go out and do some great thing. Well, I am not saying that individuals will not go out, but if they do, it will be because they are integral units in the unit, regardless of where they are. Therefore, you see that the Activity of God made manifest on earth is simply the letting process, by which the image and likeness of God appears on earth and functions on earth.
In the eternal blending of God Being in absolute co-ordination, the Spirit is allowed complete freedom of flow and release through the Divinely established organization of Cosmic Harmony, which, for this world, is focalized in our LORD of Lords and KING of Kings. Thus is there “One Father of all, Who is above all and through all and in you all.” “Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” “Be still and know that I AM God.”
The self-active human mind needs to come into an awareness of the necessity for attunement in and with the Divine. Becoming aware of this requirement, it then needs to be trained in the processes which allow an understanding and an actual experience of increasing degrees of such attunement. However, all this is accomplished through the processes of self-active thought on the part of the mind, at least to a degree. Having attained to a certain level of attunement in this manner, it becomes necessary for the mind to cease all self-active thinking, if true blending and fusion in the Divine expression is actually to take place. Such thinking as has been done in the past was necessary in the processes required to reach the point where fusion with the Lord might begin to take place. The human mind is to become an extension of the Mind of the Lord, a channel through which His thinking may find manifest expression in the earth. The positive activity of thinking is done in Heaven, and it is the human mind that may let that pure process manifest in the earth, in an attitude of awareness without interference. This is that which occurs during the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and it is in fact the stillness of the outer mind in correct polarity that permits such outpouring. As the mind on this basis becomes more openly attuned to the Divine, so that it is “stayed” upon the Lord, ever increasing release of Illumination is made possible; for Illumination is the mental awareness or perception of that which is being released from the Lord through the channel provided by the still human mind. That which is being released is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, unifying and blending the One Christ Body, radiating forth into the world, and providing Power whereby the LORD may accomplish that for which His Body is in the earth.
Human activity on the basis of trying, however fine and noble the motives may be, causes the human mind to be self activated, thereby making it impossible for the effective outpouring of the Spirit. “Let your light so shine before men.” The Light of Illumination can only shine to the degree of letting. But we now have the sacred privilege of letting it be so.
Loving Father, we thank Thee for the unifying influence of Thy Spirit which permeates the One Christ Body in the earth, and which brings us assurance that all things necessary for the accomplishment of Thy Will have been provided. We have already experienced degrees of the outpouring of Thy Holy Spirit through ourselves into the world, therefore we have confidence in the greater manifestation which must appear in due season as we truly Let Go in the stillness of the outer mind.
O LORD of Lords and KING of Kings, we come humbly into Thy Presence with thanksgiving that we are privileged to rest forever from our labours in self-activity; and that, as we let it be so, Thy Promise is fulfilled to us—“and I will give you rest.”
Our Beloved Master, we have come at last to realize that all so-called service rendered in accordance with the concept of the human mind is as nothing, and that the One True Service is in the expression of Thy Will through the One Christ Body made manifest, and in which all Responding Ones have the sacred privilege of participating, as they let it be so. We rejoice that as we let ourselves be adopted into Thy Body, so that it becomes an effective instrument in Thy Hands, It will surely accomplish all whereunto it is sent in Thy Name. Au-men.
The focalization of cycles in their closing and opening aspects, as they are at the present time in manifestation, emphasizes the importance of the unified realization that the expansion of consciousness experienced by those who are letting themselves become active Members of the One Christ Body sets the cycles, and the vibrations within the cycles, for the expansion of the Service into the world body of Responding Ones. The degree of progress that has been made in each Earnest One who is consciously harmonized in this Service is of vital importance in that which has been accomplished, but individually there must come an expansion of consciousness which permits the manifestation of the basic vibrations which will operate in the expansion of the Service; for this Service stands as a focalization of Spiritual consciousness in relationship to the mental realm of the mass of Responding Ones in the world, and any anticipated expansion of the Service into the mass of Responding Ones must be preceded by a vivid expansion of consciousness in each Member of the Christ Body made manifest. A vivid climax of expansion in consciousness is spoken of as Illumination, or as an intensified outpouring of the Holy Spirit similar to that which was experienced on the Day of Pentecost. In connection with this expansion of consciousness in those who are now consciously Serving as Members of the One Christ Body on earth, I would direct attention to the Seven Basic Precepts presented in the Manuscript, A Key to Yourself.
The Faithful One should not undertake to judge himself as to his own level of consciousness, but rather should realize that each one who lets himself be drawn into closer fusion in the One Christ Body represents a segment of world consciousness, which relates to a specific sphere of function in the One Christ Body, so that one part cannot be properly compared to another part. However, there is of necessity a fusion which is accomplished in the Fire of the Christ Love which blends all parts into a oneness of being which permits a complete channel for the outflow of the Holy Spirit from the Source into the world. After the Ascension of the Master, the Faithful Ones gathered together and finally experienced this fusion in the Fire of the Christ Love which culminated in what we speak of as the Day of Pentecost. Such an outpouring of the Holy Spirit through those who are harmonized in this Service is essential, and the great expansion of Service in the world which we anticipate cannot manifest without it. However, each Earnest One can, on the basis of his own Response and co-ordination in the One Vibration, experience this outpouring of the Holy Spirit, regardless of where he may be geographically. Remember that the experience cannot be induced by human effort or by the use of the human will in any attempt at trying to accomplish; also, the human mind is not to set itself up as a judge as to the extent to which the individual is actually sharing in the experience of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit which carries on the work of fusion in the One Christ Body. All of your training in the Art of Letting comes now to the point of greater use. These things can be only as each one lets it be so. Open-mindedness in Response to the Spirit, without clinging to crystallized concepts of the Truth, is most necessary. That which has been a true vision of the Truth from the level of your past function is not adequate to the vision required on the level of expanded consciousness. Illumination signifies increased vision in relationship to all phases of Truth, and is the process by which the individual is lifted up into higher realms of vibrational function in the One Christ Body. As we individually and collectively Let Go in right polarization, the work of the Spirit will bring forth the essential result.
Recently, during a Service which was attended by a small group of Earnest Ones, there was a very powerful outpouring of the Spirit which, in relationship to the present manifestation of the One Christ Body and in relationship to that which is essential in the next step of Illumination for every Member of that Body, provides an opportunity to enter into a deeper understanding of the actuality of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in this present time on the same basis as it was experienced on what we call the Day of Pentecost. Not all have the same degree of vision in the sense of seeing, that is, all will not see the same things and some will have the experience more from the standpoint of feeling than, for instance, from the standpoint of seeing, so no one can judge his own degree of participation in this Day of Pentecost period by what he sees in comparison to what someone else may see. What someone else has seen is not a criterion as to what you should see and it is not necessary that you should see anything; for not all parts of the body have the ability to see. Some parts of the body function primarily in relationship to the ability to feel; some parts of the body function primarily in relationship to the ability to hear. One part is not to try to function in the place of another part or to imagine that all parts should perceive the same thing in the same manner.
In this little group which I have mentioned there was present an Earnest One who has, through the years, had considerable ability in seeing perception. It is important that this point be touched upon but I must again emphasize that not all will be able to see on the basis that is indicated in this instance. After the close of the primary portion of this Service, when the experience of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in that particular focalization had past its peak of intensity, this Earnest One undertook to describe what she had seen in relationship to myself. She had not undertaken to observe anyone else in the group in relationship to this matter. I had not in this Service used the text which describes the Day of Pentecost which came after the Master's Ascension. Apparently she had in mind the idea that in the ultimate manifestation of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit there would appear tongues of fire resting upon the individuals who were experiencing the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. She indicated that what she saw was not fire but had the appearance of having tongues as might be seen in fire, and when I turned to the text and read it as it is, she was surprised to see that the text itself does not say that there were tongues of fire. In the third verse of the second Chapter of Acts we read: “And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.”
I have outlined this instance to illustrate and to emphasize the fact that preconceived ideas, if clung to, prevent the actuality of expansion in consciousness which permits true Illumination. As the individual lets go in Love Response to the Lord, and permits himself to be harmonized in the Current of the outflowing Spirit, he must be willing to let the Truth reveal itself as it is, without regard to what he may have thought the Truth to be, and if the individual stops to try to think about variations between the revelation of Truth as it is appearing in the experience and that which he had thought to be Truth, he will, by such self-activity, close his mind to the full flow of the Current of the Spirit. In other words, in the actuality of the focalized outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the mind must not undertake to function in the processes of thinking, on the basis of comparing one thing to another, even though it be in the realm of Truth. In the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the properly focalized mind does not function in the ordinary processes of thinking, but, rather, functions on the vibration of what we may speak of as pure perception, that is, simply perceiving, or having conscious awareness of, that which is manifest at the moment, without attempting to correlate it with the past or the future, with respect to anything whatsoever.
During the processes of actualized focalization in the experience of Illumination, any tendency of the mind to carry on the thinking processes will tend to close the door. Only as the mind ceases trying to think or ceases functioning as a self-active thinking organism, and functions simply on the basis of awareness in perception as of each moment, without attempting to hold to anything of the passing moment, without attempting to correlate it with anything of the past and without attempting to Judge as to what is expected of the future moments, can the experience of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit be fully realized. Here you begin to see the ideal toward which you have been moving in relationship to the right function of the mind. You have been repeatedly told that the mind is most essential to the proper function of man in relationship to the expression of the Divine on earth, but that the self-active mind prevents the manifestation of the Divine. Thus, especially during the experience of Illumination, you see that the mind functions simply as a point of awareness, that is, interest in each moment as it appears, without regard to the past and without regard to the future, and without any attempt to function in the process of thinking. Therefore, as your mind, in the focalization of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, becomes simply a focalization point of pure awareness, functioning simply on the vibration of perception in the given instant, you will find the greatest possible Illumination with respect to that particular point of focalization and outpouring. Any given degree of Illumination, or any given experience in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, should not be looked upon as having achieved the ultimate, because when the individual has permitted himself to be drawn into that point of polarity and coordinated in the One Christ Body where he may experience a vivid consciousness of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, he simply comes to a point where such experiences may come again and again with intensity of force according to the needs that are being filled or the requirements of the Service which he is perceiving. If the human mind tries to judge as to what degree of intensity of the outpouring should manifest at any given time, such function will tend to close the door. You are not required to know what degree of intensity in the outpouring is required at that specific moment, nor are you required to know exactly what needs are being filled, nor how nor why. To the degree that you function correctly as a Member of the Christ Body, letting your mind be an open window of Heaven, with consciousness focalized to a pure point of awareness, letting the Spirit do the work, you will rest in the assurance that the Head of the Body and the LORD of Lords Himself will take care of such direction and control as may be essential in that particular outpouring of the Holy Spirit. You come into a realm where all of your training with respect to: “Judge not, that ye be not judged,” is seen to be of the utmost importance, and only to the degree that you actually function according to that requirement will you be able to participate properly in the function of the One Christ Body in bringing into manifestation the Greater Works that are required for the salvation of all Reponding Ones.
As you begin to feel and to know and to realize within yourself the true significance of these words, you will experience a higher degree of Illumination with respect to all that you have been taught concerning the Art of Letting that which is of the Divine come forth into manifestation through yourself. As you realize what it means to Let the Father have His Way, so that you Let the Holy Spirit work through you, you find that human effort not only is not required but actually prevents the true experience of the outflowing activity of the Holy Spirit. In this you have absolute assurance that the Father, through His Spirit, is fully able to accomplish that which is essential, working through the agency of Responsive human beings, and you abide in that tranquility wherein you are content to Let the Father do the Works, and you find it a Joy to move in rhythmic unison in and with Divine Action.
True Illumination is experienced during the focalized outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and in that Illumination the individual comes to know what it means to cease being concerned about his human identity and becomes completely willing to LET himself, in the fulness of his consciousness, be identified with the Father in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. To the degree that this is actually experienced, the individual comes to know the Truth concerning the Adoption, because, in such a case, the focallzation of consciousness in the human being is adopted into the identity of the Father, so that the expression of the Spirit through the individual becomes in actuality the expression of that which is of the Father, in thought, in word and deed. As you truly enter into the Spirit of these words and LET yourself be drawn into the focalization of consciousness that is here indicated, you will begin to realize how noisy and unessential are the processes of human thinking in relationship to Divine Activity which springs from the Father into manifestation through the human being, and you see how it is that the noisy thinking of the human mind must be stilled, so that the mind functions as a focalization of pure awareness, without self-activity of any kind in relationship to thinking, that the expression of the Spirit through the individual may attain the full and free flow which is necessary to the accomplishment of the Greater Works. In this you begin to know more fully, according to the Illumined vision, the significance of the words: “Peace, be still. Peace, Peace be still, (O, human mind), and know that I AM God.” In this degree of awareness in Illumination, you have a new vision of the essential value of alignment, wherein the human mind, and, consequently, the function of the human body, does not lag behind nor try to move ahead of the expression of the Divine, but, rather, functions in such full accord with the Divine, that alignment is always maintained, and you see and know that as your whole feeling nature is focalized in Love Response to God in this Field of Pure Awareness, you know the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and you realize, increasingly, the Presence of the LORD and the Power of His Being.
In this experience of Illumination, your body and mind no longer have need to be told that, “The Lord He Is the God;" for in this outpouring of the Holy Spirit you know that, “The Lord He is the God,” and you knowthat you are in His Presence, and being completely humble, fully Responsive, Letting the Father do the Works, you simply Let the Spirit flow in Radiation to, in and through all who will receive. No human effort is required; no human trying can reach this height of consciousness. It is here, in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, that you are blended into the One Christ Body and fused in the Fire of Love into the coordinated function of the Divine on earth, and you come to know that wheresoever the LORD of Lords may be with respect to His Presence as a God Being, the Spirit of His Presence is ever present in the outflowing of His Spirit, and that Spirit is incarnate in the One Christ Body made manifest, of which you have become a part. Therefore, you cease to use human effort as a means of trying to accomplish, and you begin to Let yourself be used as a coordinated Member of the One Christ Body on earth through which the incarnate manifestation of the Spirit of the LORD of Lords works to accomplish that which our Master called the Greater Works.
O LORD of Lords and KING of Kings, we thank Thee that it is so. I thank Thee, Beloved Master, for all these Faithful Ones who have let themselves be still before Thee, that in the Fire of Thy Love they may be fused into the One Christ Body on earth, through which the Christ Spirit, which is of Thee, may manifest and carry on that work which Thou didst begin as Jesus Christ on earth. I thank Thee that as this focalized Body of Faithful Ones Lets Thy Spirit work on earth, all the Responding Ones wheresoever they may be in all the earth, are drawn with the Irresistible Cords of Thy Love, that they may become Members of Thy Body on earth, and that through them Thy Service in the earth may receive that provision which Thou hast already made, that all things may work together in perfection in and through and for all who let it be so here and now. We thank Thee for this deeper vision, this clearer understanding, this higher Illumination which reveals to us, and through us to Responding Ones, what it means to Let Thy Will be done on earth as it is done in heaven, and also the Realization of the true significance of Thy Word: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them,” and “Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do.” It is through the One Christ Body on earth that Thou art privileged to use Thy all-inclusive Power in the earth, casting down the unreal, lifting up the Responding Ones, giving sight to those who see not, resurrecting to Life Eternal those who are asleep to Reality, and accomplishing, in Healing and Illumination, all that is necessary to fill every need of every Responding One wheresoever he or she may be on earth, and we know that it is in this oneness of the One Christ Body on earth that we, as manifest expressions of Thy Will in thought, word and deed, may function according to Thy Word, and whatsoever Thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatsoever Thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Truly, LORD, it is good to give thanks unto Thee; for Thy Power is greater than the power of man, and the power of evil is as nothing before Thee. All the earth is Thine and the fulness thereof, and all the earth Responds to Thy Word, that the human expression which Responds not may be removed out of its place and cast into outer darkness until the earth shall be purified of all evil, and the kingdoms of this world have become, in manifest fact, the Kingdoms of our LORD and of His Christ, and He shall rule forever and ever. Au-men.
The outpouring of the Holy Spirit through the focalization of Divine Expression in the earth is necessary, first to actively intensify such Responses as there are in the world, and then the level of conscious awareness which is experienced by those who participate in that focalization necessarily establishes the vibrations of awareness which are readily available to those who are consciously Responding. If it were not for those who have been consciously drawn and focalized into the One Christ Body, who have an awareness and understanding of the Reality of the function of the Spirit, there would be no manifest expression of consciousness by which the unresponding ones might become awakened, so the degree of expansion of consciousness experienced through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit by the consciously Responding Ones sets the vibratory channels of the New Cycle of Expansion on which others may Respond. Any Responding One at any point in the world would indeed have to be remarkably focalized in Reality if he were ever to come to a point of conscious understanding without such established channels of consciousness already made manifest in the world through which he may receive the influence of the Spirit in relationship to his Response.
As Representatives of those working on your vibration, the important thing in relationship to a period of Radiation as we have experienced it this afternoon is the acknowledgment in yourself on behalf of yourself and all whom you represent of the actual fact of that which was experienced to the degree that it was individually experienced—a recognition of whether or not you individually felt the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and an acknowledgment of whatever degree of Illumination you actually experienced. That is, in focalized vibration, the essential in relationship to such Response as I invite. The expression does not have to be long but it needs to be focalized on the vibration. If it moves on to tangents, it tends to produce leaks. I am asking for a Response on the vibration of what I have released. That means, basically, acknowledgment of the Current that has been working and is working, and a recognition of increased Illumination. It is not just an acknowledgment of it to me; for I am simply a Representative. You are acknowledging it to the LORD of Lords. If you have experienced an increased Illumination, if you felt the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, acknowledge it, because only direct acknowledgment permits an expansion of that which is working through you and permits it to have focalization to those whom you represent. It is this completion of the cycle that is most important to the purpose for which we are working.
The admonition has been oft repeated: “In all things give thanks.” We have emphasized the necessity of giving thanks in order to establish and maintain attunement. When an individual has experienced an outflow of the Spirit and an increased clarity of vision which we call Illumination, the first spontaneous Response should be of thanksgiving to God for it—of giving thanks for it not only on a personal vibration but also on the vibration of all whom you represent. But it is essential individually. In other words, except you individually give expression to that Radiation on the vibration of thanksgiving and acknowledgment, you lose a tremendous part of that Current individually as well as from the standpoint of the unified vibration, so the first spontaneous feeling is, properly, of thanksgiving to God that it is so—acknowledgment of what has been experienced and of what one has felt flowing forth.
Now being careful to keep within the range of vibrations established, harmonized and coordinated with it, I should like you to give expression to your answers to certain questions, which may be changed into positive expressions, and which, when put together, serve as a summary of what your individual expressions on the Current of this Radiation should be in correct form, basically or in essence:
1. Do you have an increased vision, realization and understanding of the actual process of adoption?
2. Do you recognize more vividly, more clearly, the process of change that takes place in relationship to the point of identity?
3. Do you feel more deeply, more vividly, than ever before, the actuality of the One Christ Body?
4. Do you see more vividly, in a greater clarity of the Illumined Spirit, the manner in which the Master, though He ascended, is yet incarnate in and through the One Christ Body?
5. Do you have an increased realization, a greater Illumination, with respect to the proper function of the mind during the outpouring of the Holy Spirit?
6. On the basis of that increased Illumination on that point, do you see how a still greater Illumination becomes possible?
7. Do you have a deeper realization of what Illumination is?
8. Do you have a deeper realization, a greater clarity of vision, with respect to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit?
9. Do you see more vividly than ever before why human trying shuts the door, and why the Art of Letting is so very important?
All of you acknowledge a deeper realization and increased vision with respect to these things according to the individual degree of understanding and Illumination, and this acknowledgment, this realization of these various points, when recognized as points of deeper realization, deeper vision, greater clarity of consciousness, permits an expanding cycle of consciousness to be specific—not general, not vague, but something vivid, something real and focalized, and the acknowledgment of it permits the Cycle of Response to return to us, so that an increased Current may flow through us, allowing the increased Current to go forth according to the Response and according to the need. And so it is for each one and for all who Respond. I praise the Lord for each one of you, and for all whom you represent; for the Radiation of His Power this afternoon, and for the Illumination of His Spirit, that each one may abide in the realization that the Power of God is working in the earth and that the Lord has accomplished, in and through all who Respond, that which is necessary.
We are all aware that we are here present this morning once again to provide space individually in our hearts and minds for heaven. It is well to remind ourselves of this. Being in heaven, because there is a heaven for us to be in, the heaven of our hearts and minds, thoughts, words and actions may indeed be the vessels of the temple for right use. We might question as to how proficient it is possible for us to be, in the right handling of the vessels of the temple. We have a special opportunity at this time to discover just how effective we may be.
How much of what occurs in your minds and hearts in an hour such as this is consequent upon the fact that I command your attention, or how much upon the fact that your attention is already commanded by you? Behind me in the Chapel this morning, as on each occasion when we hold a service, there is what we speak of as an altar. I wonder how carefully you have examined the altar and what is present upon it. A few of you had opportunity to build this particular piece, so presumably you are familiar with the design. I had the opportunity of designing it, so I am familiar with the design. It is composed of wood and marble. There is a flowing design to the wood, which is also picked up again in the design of the lectern. Marble certainly has some very pleasing colors. The wood and the marble are the material of which the altar is composed. There is a Bible upon the altar, two candlesticks and a golden bowl. Perhaps it is not possible for you to see the altar in its completeness from where you sit, but I am sure that you have an awareness of it even so.
This altar obviously is present in the Chapel for some reason. Presumably it represents something. It has a symbolical value as representing a reality. It isn’t of itself the reality but it may represent a reality in our own consciousness. I’m sure that you presently have the idea that the altar is behind me over here, and you are sitting over there. But if you will pause to consider for a moment you will realize that the altar is exactly where you are, because it is only present in your own consciousness. You project it as being somewhere else but the fact of the matter is that it is exactly where you are.
As I say, this altar and its associated vessels is, rightly, symbolic of a reality. The altar itself of course is a particular structure which is capable of holding those vessels which are placed upon it: the Bible presumably would represent the Word, the candles and the candlesticks possibly heart and mind in which the light of life shines, and the golden bowl a very special representation, as a vessel, of the vessels of the temple: thoughts and words and actions spring forth by reason of spiritual expression, rightly. The contents of the golden bowl is invisible; spirit is invisible. We are keenly aware, however, that it is a reality. In fact I suppose it could be described as the most solid reality there is around, but there is the need for vessels which may be filled by the spirit and activated into expression. We have called these vessels thoughts, words and deeds.
So there is a representation in this altar, present in your own consciousness, of what rightly is true of you. The facilities of body, mind and heart are all present where you are, in your own experience. The light of life is there. You know it to be so. You don’t have to analyze it to prove it. It is a fact which you know. In order to provide a better view of the altar in your own consciousness I shall move aside. The lectern may still block your view to some extent but the words that I have used to describe the altar and its contents should be fairly clear in your consciousness anyway. I am not going to be standing here to command your attention. I’m just giving you the opportunity to discover what the nature of your attention is if it is not commanded by some living external point which offers some expression capable of perhaps commanding your attention.
Human beings obviously are quite familiar with having their attention commanded. Usually they watch TV and have their attention commanded by what has been called the “boob tube.” There are those human beings who are more capable than others of standing before an audience commanding their attention, and all sorts of things have happened because this has been so. Emotions can be activated and human beings can just follow along more or less blindly and, because the one who is activating their emotions is saying something, imagine that they are thinking. But the fact of the matter is that this is a blind experience, and people go along with such things and all sorts of horrors are perpetrated because of this. Some of the things that crowds do, and therefore the individuals in the crowds do, they certainly would not do if they were alone. Here is slavery indeed—people do the most ridiculous things.
When I do step aside and let you contemplate the altar in your own consciousness, you don’t necessarily need to see it with your eyes. In fact sometimes seeing something with your eyes, except to remind you for the moment, may be a distraction. But what will it engender in the space in you? Something heavenly? Now we’ll see what happens to the vessels of your temple, particularly those of thought, presumably, in this instance. Sometimes, even when I am standing here, thoughts wander. Thoughts wander because of feelings. Feelings are triggered in various ways. If you are considering the reality that is represented by the altar and its contents, you are in position to let the vessels of your temple—perhaps thoughts principally—contain the expression of spirit. In other words there will be a handling of these vessels by spirit, so that what needs to be seen and understood, the meditations of your heart, may be engendered by spirit—a certain experience of illumination, so that what you have heretofore perhaps more or less taken for granted, not considered as important, the altar and its contents, may come alive in your own consciousness by reason of your own living expression of spirit.
Be still. “The Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.” But this isn’t a blank, is it? This means that the vessels of the temple would be used rightly. They would be filled with spirit, spirit would flow, and consequently you would participate in an enlarged experience. Now the question is as to how proficient you might find yourself to be in such an experience. Well, I’m going to provide you with the opportunity, at least, to find out, because if I merely command your attention when I am here, then to that extent you go along for the ride. But if your attention is commanded by the spirit that is moving in you, then we are all in position to participate in what we have spoken of as radiation. The other aspect would be absorption, wouldn’t it? If you go along for the ride, in an automobile or in an aircraft or on the train, there is a power source in all these vehicles which moves you along. You yourself are not the power source. Well now you are—and if there is any meaningful movement, any meaningful depth of greater awareness, it comes because your heart, your mind, your body are the vessels of the temple, with sufficient space in them to accommodate the movement of the creative spirit.
When I stand here and speak, this is what I have to do. If anyone stands here and speaks, that is what is necessary: to have space to accommodate the expression of the spirit. All right, here is the particular opportunity to see what happens to you when there is a silent space provided for you, at least for your physical forms, your minds and your hearts. Will they take over? Or will they be the vessels of the temple which are used by spirit and therefore provide the means by which you, spiritual you, the only you that is real, are introduced into experience on earth in this fashion, in this particular setting, individually and therefore collectively? You will discover for yourselves what it is that I have to work with, whether I merely have to take you along for the ride or whether you are part of the power source yourselves.
So the space is offered to you, and we will have a period of quietness, and you individually will discover what happens in you. As an individual you are the only one who will have that awareness, but it may acquaint you with the extent to which you are present on earth, having come forth from the Father into the world through your mental processes, through your feelings and through your physical form. So I shall step aside for the moment. You still have a point of centering, but what that point of centering is is entirely up to you. I have offered the altar as a representation in your own consciousness, because it is present in the consciousness of each one.
Martin left the lectern and was seated in his chair to the side of the lectern for six and a half minutes.
You will know for yourselves individually how well your minds and your hearts have been able to hold a focus so that there was an ongoing experience of a creative nature, something unfolding in your awareness. This unfoldment properly is occurring constantly. I provided a representative form to offer you a connection with what is actually happening in the flow of the creative spirit. If you are capable of holding a focus in a true point of representation, then you have the experience in mind and heart of the flow of the spirit, which enlightens you. You become aware of far more than would be possible if that connection were not there.
You may see in this that there is a certain importance and necessity for a representation of some kind in consciousness in order to let the creative experience be known. This is the value of true symbols, true representations. It has been emphasized that there always is the need for an external point of representation; at least that’s how it appears to the person. But I’m sure you realized that you weren’t concentrating on an altar over here, separate from you. Your attention came to point in an altar in your own consciousness, so that the representation which had before appeared to be out there, now is found in fact to be in here. This also relates to the living representation that is provided. That is essential for the experience in heart and mind in any person, first of all of the creative flow of the spirit, and then consequently of the awareness in heart and mind of the coming forth of the one who you are.
In a particular sense I have provided an external point of reference to all of you, and many more, a representation of a reality. You imagined that I was somehow separate from you. Well that’s the starting point; that’s the way all human beings see things, as being separate from themselves, so how else could one approach the consciousness of human beings, yours included? So a representation is provided which seems to be external, and heart and mind scout around it, so to speak, to see it from all angles as far as possible and find out whether it’s genuine or not. And if, finally, there begins to be such a sensing of the spirit that is being represented, regardless of the form (of course the form can’t be separated from the spirit; there wouldn’t be any spirit represented if it wasn’t for the form), if there is a sensing of that spirit so represented, heart and mind begin to realize gradually, rather slowly as a rule, that what is being experienced is internal to heart and mind. It is contained in the heart and mind. The representation, in other words, begins to dissolve into the experience of the reality, because the representation in the first place never was separate from the person; that is, if it’s a genuine representation—I suppose in a sense you could say even if it isn’t, because people become involved in others; they pattern their lives upon the lives of others. They have images of themselves which are gleaned from images of others. So what is being undertaken could be said to be internal anyway; but now, finally, if there is a genuine representation of spirit, then that begins to come home, so to speak.
It seems to be over there to start with. There are many people on our mailing list who receive the services “out there” somewhere, and they read them, and they sometimes feel they have no adequate personal connection with me who gave the service. But the fact of the matter is that the individual is reading the service; I gave the service; I’m right there and in fact in the individual’s own consciousness. How could I be any closer? This idea of, “Well we need closer connection,” is a fantasy. We don’t. The closest possible connection is already there. All that is required is to awaken to it, and the awakening comes because the reality that is you begins to come forth through the heart and the mind of the physical form in which you are incarnate. This is making all things new. It isn’t repairing the physical form, it isn’t adjusting the mind somehow, it isn’t doing something else to the heart—I’m not sure what—getting it straightened out somehow. It isn’t any of those things. What has been absent is now coming forth, that’s all; and in its coming forth, in your coming forth, all things are made new. There’s a new state of consciousness.
There are many people who recognize that there needs to be some sort of change in the state of consciousness, but it’s always considered simply from the standpoint, as we have noted before, of changing the furniture of consciousness around so that there’s a new look to it. It isn’t that at all. The furniture needs to go on the junk heap, that what should be present may come forth. It isn’t a matter of healing. That’s a heretical thing to say, isn’t it? because everybody is trying to get healing. Even this wholistic business is seen in terms of somehow or other getting the person together, as though that in and of itself would produce something worthwhile. But you can get this mess over here and that mess over there and the mess in the other place all together and all you have is a bigger mess. It isn’t a repair of anything. Healing is seen in terms of repair: “My gallbladder isn’t functioning too well; it has stones in it. It needs to be rid of the stones, so let’s get an expert in that field and he’ll get rid of the stones. Ah, now I’m healthy.” But you don’t have a gallbladder anymore. You’re not whole. That is healing from the human viewpoint. There is no need for healing, because what seems to need to be healed must pass away. Healing just keeps it around a little longer, so the whole approach ultimately, from the human standpoint, which considers the matter of healing to be so important, is false.
There are two words that might be used to indicate the change in consciousness that is to occur, or rather the experience that is known when it does occur. The first one relates to this matter of simply trying to fix up, repair, make better, the false state, and the second one refers to the experience of the true state. The first word is revolution. Human beings always imagine that something new is produced by revolution. I’m thinking more in the terms perhaps of political revolution: throw somebody out, put someone else in. But, as has repeatedly been the experience of human beings all throughout history, virtually nothing has changed. Just the people have changed, that’s all. Different people are in and others are out, that’s all. But the way they operate hasn’t changed at all. Revolution is rotation, isn’t it, in other words going around in a circle, and it gets nowhere. You just, sooner or later, land up back where you were before.
The other word is revelation, which implies that there is something which wasn’t there which is now there—this coming-forth business of which I have been speaking. And when you come forth through the altar which you are in the external sense, the symbol of the reality which you should be in the external sense, when you come forth, the symbol is immediately a true symbol. You didn’t fix up the old thing; you simply allowed the new thing to appear.
The attitude of most is to try to get themselves fixed up. The whole approach, the whole humanoid approach, is to try to get fixed up, as though, being fixed up, some very useful thing has occurred; but it’s still the same false person there, doing the same false things. It has often been said that a person may receive healing but then immediately thereafter goes and does exactly the same things that he was doing before and lands up sick again. This is revolution: revolutionary diets there are these days, revolutionary ways of exercising, revolutionary all this stuff, which is supposed to be so valuable, so modern. It has all been done before. But it gets nowhere. It’s revolutionary—going around in a circle. Until there is the experience of revelation nothing creative has happened. But the revelation is the coming forth of the truth, and when the truth is present it is revealed by reason of the vessels of the temple. They are used rightly, and in their use they are restored; they are restored to the purpose for which they are there. If these vessels are used rightly they are revealed as perfect; they don’t need fixing up.
So we have had opportunity this morning to participate in a recognition, a direct recognition, of something which has been talked about for a long time, of the fact that there is always the need for external representation of the truth, to start with—something which may symbolize the truth and which the individual interprets as being external to himself. That’s the way the human mind now works. But gradually you find out that what you were interpreting as being external to yourself isn’t. It comes closer and closer. There s a feeling of closeness. In our ministry there are many who say there’s a much greater feeling of closeness now than there used to be. Well the evidence of some revelation is appearing, which is the coming forth into experience of the truth that is already present. We can’t make closeness. There are many people who try to make closeness by communicating more. Well this is not to say that we don’t need to talk to each other a little—less, probably, than we do. Communication has its place but it isn’t the way by which the truth is known. The truth is only known because it comes forth. And how can it come forth, with respect to anyone, from anywhere else than where the person is? It can’t be injected in from somewhere if it’s coming forth. It wouldn’t be coming forth, would it? It would be going in. Well we have vast experience of things coming in, and it never did us much good, did it? It could be said that we are still present on earth because of some things that were injected into us to give us a chance to discover what the coming forth is. It’s the only reason we’re still alive. It’s the only reason anyone is still alive, to have that chance.
What a wonderful opportunity and provision is always present, and we are here to take advantage of it. I represent something to you of the altar of the Lord, the living altar of the Lord: physical body here, mental capacity and emotional capacity. The Bible is here, the Word is here; the candlesticks are here, I trust lighted in some measure at least, the light of life shining; and the golden bowl is here, capable of containing spiritual expression—the vessels of the temple, of thoughts, words and deeds, by which the expression of spirit is brought forth. And the expression of spirit creates. There would be nothing if it weren’t for the expression of spirit. All things were made by the Word; and without the Word was not any thing made that was made, that is made.
So we find the truth coming home to us, but it isn’t really that, is it, either, because it was always at home. No, the truth comes forth, and here is the change of polarity for the changed experience. What has been known in the past has always been relative to something supposedly coming from somewhere else—the stars dictate our lives! The stars presumably are way off somewhere, so it has to come a long way to get here—but that’s a lie. All that is real comes forth because it is our own true expression through the purified heart and the sanctified mind and a body filled with life.
If you know for yourself as an individual who I am, you only know that to the extent of your love. And if you do know that, you immediately know to that extent who you are, because there is no separation between the two. So you say, “I am,” and you know who you are, because you know who I am. There’s no separation. You can’t know who you are without knowing who I am. People try to maintain themselves in little cells apart from everybody else: “I’m going to know who I am now.” It can’t be done, because the truth is there is no separation. There is oneness. And we discover what that means as we are in position to come forth because heart and mind are available, there is space there of the quality and nature that will accommodate our coming forth. And as we do, heart and mind know that and share the experience of the one who is coming forth. So let it be, not only in an hour such as this—maybe we have had some experience in this hour which would be helpful—but let us come forth constantly.
