Shekinah Magic #1 — No Focalization Without Shekinah
Uranda June 17, 1953
We have under consideration our basic theme of Heavenly Magic, and I trust our examination of the various factors involved does not at any time cause you to lose sight of that basic theme. We must of necessity examine into the various factors and facets before we can begin to really appreciate the whole.
One of the points which we have been meditating upon has to do with the Seven Spirits before the Throne of God. The seven stars symbolize the seven angels, who are the manifest points of focalization for the Seven Spirits before the Throne of God; and the seven churches reveal the body of response to the seven angels. Let us be sure we have that clearly established in mind.
There are the Seven Spirits before the Throne of God—that is, the One Spirit of God has these seven specific aspects of primary manifestation. In order to have these seven phases of the Spirit manifest they must come to focus in relationship to the earth. So there are the seven angels which provide a focalization of Spirit before the Throne of God. And then the seven churches manifest as the body of responding ones which provide the machinery for the manifestation of that particular aspect of Spirit. As we have the substance of the seven glandular patterns in the endocrine system so must we have those human beings who respond in pattern so that they become the means of manifestation for the Seven Spirits which are brought into focalized manifestation by reason of the seven angels. Here is a little diagram in order to simplify the comprehension of this principle.
We will draw a circle at the top, within which we will put a cross signifying the LORD of Lords and KING of Kings. Then this same circle, this same point, is projected outward into the physical realm—and you cease to see the focalization of the Seven Planes of Being—and you begin to see the focalization which forms the manifest expression at any given time for the Inner Reality. This is that, then, which manifests in the Negative Triune World. And immediately back of it, in the invisible realm, is the focalization as it is contained eternally in the Lord of Love or the LORD of Lords.
Then, we have the division of the aspects of Spirit, symbolized here by the seven golden candlesticks. “And in the midst of the seven [golden] candlesticks one like unto the Son of man.” And at the point of focalization for each of these we have the manifestation of one of the angels which provide the manifest expression. Now, in order to carry this out further, we will examine the pattern as it relates to the seven angels first, because we have in that a creative triangle which is based in the circle of the centering of Being—and the aspect of Spirit which has its broad base in the invisible realm comes to point in the angel.
Then there is another triangle which takes form in relationship to each of these seven, being the manifestation which is transferred from the Inner Realms to the Outer Realms. There must always be, without any single exception—and remember this always, because there is no exception—somehow, it may be small comparatively speaking, or large, its size is beside the point—that which is coming from the Inner Planes must by some means come to a single point. It does not ever simply manifest on a broad base. It must come to point somewhere, somehow, in some one, and you are supposed to be individual beings through which something comes to point out of the invisible realm. Then, after it comes to point in you, it expands outward again in its manifestation, so that the broad base here—if the transfer has been correct—the broad base here contains the same essences and same qualities and characteristics which we have in the broad base in the Inner Planes. It cannot manifest just as a straight line outward; it must come to point in focalization.
Now, from the standpoint of giving attunements, and we are nearing the point where we will be meditating particularly on attunements as such, the function of the Server to the servee, and I am beginning to give you the fundamental principles involved in fact right now. You must be such a point if you are to be a Server. It may have functioned more or less automatically for some of you in the past and you did not know perhaps just exactly what was happening—but if there was a current of the Heavenly Spirit working through you in the pattern of Heavenly Magic, there was a focalization of that Spirit through you. It came to point in you, and then according to the response of the servees, they started to receive the manifestation of that—making it manifest on the broad base in the Outer Realm.
But, there is always, without exception, the operation of this double triangle in relationship to the manifestation of invisible things in relationship to this world of form—and if you remember that, if you understand something of the function of the creative triangle which makes a manifestation of the creative field, you begin to understand something about creative function. It must come to point.
Now, that must be with respect to every manifestation, at every level, for all things—whether it is a tiny blade of grass that manifests, or anything else. Everything that actually comes from the Inner Planes into the Outer manifests by reason of these creative triangles and the principles of focalization. If I have any value to you it is because I focalize something out of the invisible realms, to point, on this basis, so that this point here is in fact a point of focus, something coming from the invisible realms, and then it begins to manifest outward. These, you will notice, if you carry the pattern out, form on earth a triangle of manifestation, so that we begin to see that if my function on earth has any meaning to you, it is because of this fact. And the Throne is that which is the visible or manifest formation of the power and authority of God—the means of its expression. We begin to see that everything must work on the basis of a focalization.
Now we can say, “You be a focal point,” and that person might never focalize anything. Such a person might try, but you cannot just say, “So and so is going to be a focalization of thus and thus”—just as a human being put in a specific physical place, geographically speaking, would not in any sense establish a focalization. What is it that establishes the reality of a focalization? Just one thing. Depending upon the level, the patterns, the responsibilities, and that which is focalized—remember this:
There is no such thing as focalization without Shekinah. You must realize the basic principles of focalization and realize that the point of focalization is the point of manifestation for Shekinah. In actual fact, in the true sense—I recognize we have just been moving forward toward it, but—you cannot give an attunement in any real, positive sense unless you yourself, as a Being, have become a focalization of the reality of the manifestation of Shekinah—the Fire, the Light that Glows, and the Cloud.
Now different people have different patterns of perception and we do not need to all the time see the Cloud as such, but it is there. You cannot give an attunement to any human being who will not let you enfold him or her in the Cloud. I do not care how you put your hands, I do not care what you do, what technique or anything else—if that person, as servee, coming to you, does not allow you to enfold that person—if the servee does not allow you to enfold him in the Shekinah Cloud, you cannot give any true attunement. You might conceivably, to some degree, give a little radiation. A little radiation might manifest without any particular enfoldment.
Now, the servee is going to come to you with conflicts internally, conflicts in his vibrational factors. He has a conflict in his body or he would not be sick or ill in some fashion—all these conflicts. And every conflict pattern, regardless of its supposed cause, shuts out Shekinah—establishes a veil between servee and Shekinah. If there is a conflict pattern in heart or mind or body, or in spirit, then that conflict pattern stands as a veil between that person and the reality of the manifestation of the Presence of the One Who Dwells. The One Who Dwells where? In Heaven, in reality, in the Shekinah Fire.
The Shekinah Fire must form in actual fact, and be there, if there is to be a true focalization. If I could not come before you as a means of bringing the focus of Shekinah from the invisible realm into the visible, to make it manifest before you to whatever degree your perceptions permit you to recognize, I could not serve you. And, certain people have tended to say, “Well now, I am not going to accept the idea of focalization. I don't need anyone between me and God. I’ll make my own contacts. I'll get along. I'll do this; I'll do that.” Alright, go and do as millions of others have done and accomplish nothing, because they have spent their few years of meager existence without the realization of the reality of Shekinah.
If you are to have any meaning in the service of our KING, and have any effectiveness in causing the Kingdom to come, you too must become a constant focalization of Shekinah, according to your place and part in the Cosmic Plan. Without the reality of the focalization of Shekinah in you, so that there is the Light that Glows, so that people can begin to sense there is a Fire in you, that you are not all dead ashes, so that there is a Cloud that enfolds—an atmosphere of Heaven, if you please—you cannot be effective, for the atmosphere of Heaven is the Shekinah Cloud.
The atmosphere of Heaven is the Shekinah Cloud. I think some of you, perhaps all of you, have learned that when you begin to come into my physical presence you begin to feel something. You should anyway. Why? Well, there may be a little evidence of the Light that Glows, perhaps there may be a little sensing of some Fire somewhere—I hope so—but there should likewise be a sensing of an enfolding something, the enfolding Cloud, the Shekinah Cloud. And until you learn to abide with the Shekinah Fire burning eternally in your heart, never going out, you cannot truly serve.
The Shekinah Fire is the Fire that never goes out; it is the Eternal Fire. Now, the Shekinah Fire is not going to go out, but you can exclude it from your heart, and unless it burns eternally in you, you are not—no matter what you say, no matter what you think you know, no matter what training you think you had, or anything else—unless the Shekinah Fire burns in your heart without going out, day or night, you have not become a Priest or Priestess unto our God—for that Fire is the Eternal Fire, absolutely constant.
Its manifestation may not always be the same. There may be times when onlookers may not perhaps immediately perceive it. There are times, such as when you go downtown or something like that, that you will let it sort of recede. You are going to have general patterns of contact with the public, and you let it recede—but it is there—not so easily seen. What was it, from the standpoint of Moses when he had been in the Shekinah Fire communing with God with respect to the Commandments and the Divine Instruction to the children of Israel? He came down from the mount and the people could not look upon him, so he had to put a sack over his head because the Glow of the Fire—the Light that Glows—was so strong that people were afraid to look at it, so he had to cover his head. Well now, that sack, that covering, is not actually necessarily a physical thing that you can see. It is not a piece of cloth necessarily. I wear it a good deal of the time, of necessity. But, Blessed Ones, there comes a time when one does not have to wear it, in certain places at least. You do not need to worry about that for a while. But, you do need to begin to see the principle and understand it. And here we have the release of that which is from the Inner Planes that comes to point in someone, somewhere, and then expands out again from that individual to be shared by others.
And no one person can bring to point and make manifest all that he himself needs. Remember that. It is utterly and absolutely, eternally—even in the Divine State—utterly and absolutely impossible for any human being to bring to point and focus in himself all that he himself needs in manifestation on earth. Every point of focalization must depend upon other points of focalization for some of the things that need to be made manifest from heaven for him. I cannot make manifest all that I need, not by any means. It is impossible! Nor can you. I can make manifest certain things that are of vital importance to you. Within the pattern of focalization there are certain things which I can properly make manifest—it is my responsibility—but there are a multitude of things in the range of my own focalization, in relationship to the whole pattern, that I cannot personally make manifest; it would be impossible.
You share in it, others share in it, until all of the things that we all need for the perfect expression of life are made manifest by reason of true focalization and expression in Life. So I receive the manifestation of virtually everything I need through someone else. I cannot make it manifest. I never try. I must depend upon others for that which I need. And if I tried to get into manifestation the things that I need, merely because I am a point of focalization, I would destroy the whole thing, spoil the pattern, and there would be nothing here for you.
Some people seem to imagine that they should be able to make manifest for themselves that which they themselves need, and it is absolutely contrary to the laws of God, Divine Being. The LORD of Lords Himself cannot make manifest that which He needs. Go on to the Highest GOD of all Gods, the Center of all the Cosmos, and He cannot make manifest for Himself that which He Himself needs. There is no point of being in heaven or earth, anywhere, that can make manifest for himself or herself that which he or she needs.
Now look at it. Human beings have attempted to ignore that fundamental, basic Law of Being, and they have busied themselves trying to make manifest that which they themselves think they need. And if I do not have in manifestation what I need, people have tended to point the finger and say, “Look, if he had the power, or the knowledge, or whatever, that he is supposed to have, why doesn't he have this, and why doesn't he have that, and why doesn't he have the other thing?” Well, why don't I? I cannot. And I never attempt to make manifest that which I myself need. It must come to me through others, and I have no objection to it. Yet people around me tend to have an objection to receiving something through me. They say, “I want to get the idea, yes, and then I'll go and do it. I'll get for myself the things I want and need. I don't need to get them through somebody else.” There is the difference between the Divine State and the fallen state, the world of reality and the unreal world—for you must learn to depend upon others for that which you need, as God Himself does.
Look, God, our LORD and KING needs to have a Kingdom extended into the earth to include every man, woman and child on the face of the earth. He needs it. Well, then, why does He not produce it? He cannot produce for Himself that which He Himself needs. He cannot make it manifest, and He would not even try to. He must depend upon those who serve with Him. He has placed a certain amount of dependence upon me, to the end that He may receive that which He needs of response from out of the world. But all of that is not just in me. It is in you too. He is depending upon you to produce something that He needs in relationship to the manifestation of the Kingdom of God on earth. Human beings are so concerned about being independent. They are going to get it for themselves. Oh, they get it all right, right in the neck, and then they bury them. It cannot be done by any means or method under the sun. Human beings can think they are doing it for a little while, but when they get what they thought was going to be what they needed, what do they find? It is empty, it does not truly satisfy. If they got it for themselves, it turns out to be empty, nothing.
So one of the basic principles of heavenly function in the pattern of Heavenly Magic is—what? We might call it the impersonal attitude. What is the impersonal attitude? It is the attitude that comes when we begin to understand the Laws of Being and we stop trying to get something or produce something for ourselves. How long I have waited for many of the things that I need, and if I had grown resentful and tried to get them myself, because somebody did not deliver, we would not be here today. I had to maintain an absolutely impersonal attitude with respect to the things that I need—and there are many of them, many of them! But I cannot receive them, I cannot have them, until someone or ones, the proper someones, make them available to me.
The spirit of giving is the spirit of being. Remember? We talked about it before. But now you are beginning to see why. Because you cannot receive from some invisible realm something in manifestation for yourself. It must be some kind of an expression out to others that engenders the pattern of response which causes someone over there to allow the manifestation of that which you need, so that it comes to you. And we are giving to each other, and when we are all properly giving, we will all be properly receiving. But if you are concerned about the receiving and the getting, if you lose the impersonal attitude, you will fail! Regardless of how you try, what you think you know, techniques, methods, efforts, or anything else, it is absolute. And billions of people for hundreds and thousands of years have proven it by the fact that they never started to live; they just existed a little time and were gone. Not one single person in all the history of the world has ever achieved on that basis. Not one!
So the impersonal attitude essential to correct function in Heavenly Magic is that you never, under any circumstances, try to get something for yourself. That does not mean you will not have anything, because if you give properly, sooner or later, someday, if you keep steady, someone is going to give back to you. It may seem like a long time. How did the Preacher put it long ago? “Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.” Sometimes it is many days. But it does not make any difference. Hold steady, keep giving, and sooner or later, somewhere, it will begin to come back. It may be a little trickle here and a little trickle there. Finally, finally it will begin to take form and begin to be a stream. There may be dry spots, but if you keep giving and do not try to get something into manifestation for yourself, you will begin to have that which belongs to you in the pattern of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.
Now this is that which has been violated by the children of men. They have tried to get around it in every conceivable way by black magic and by self-activity of every sort, by trying, by pouring out their life's blood in this job or in that business or in something else. They are going to make it manifest for themselves! And oh how they worship the god of self, and how they sacrifice their own blood to get it, until they are dead and gone and the earth is cleansed of their corruption. And someone else comes along to try to corrupt it. It is a wonder that the world is not in a much worse state than it is. Did you ever stop to think about that? It is really a wonder that the world is not in a worse state than it is. Only by the grace of God and the fact that there are patterns of response in the animal and vegetable kingdoms—if the animal and vegetable kingdom patterns of response had ever been completely disrupted, man would not have been able to remain. How is that for an indictment? It was not man that saved the vegetable and animal kingdoms; it was the vegetable and animal kingdom response that made it possible for man to continue to this day; otherwise the world would have become a vacant, meaningless planet, until God got around to doing something else.
Blessed ones, we need to begin to realize that only in the impersonal attitude can you be a focalization for the manifestation of Shekinah; and if you are not a Temple for the manifestation of Shekinah, you are nothing in actual fact, except a potentiality, something that maybe will respond and yield someday. But the human being is so busy trying to get something for himself. I cannot make manifest for myself that which I need, nor can you. God Himself does not. And once you begin to realize that, you will stop trying to do the impossible, and the impersonal attitude will no longer look like something fantastic and ridiculous. Now there have been attitudes or ideas about the impersonal attitude that are fantastic. A lot of people thought they knew something about it when they did not. But the impersonal attitude is automatically present when you are no longer attempting to do the impossible, no longer attempting to make manifest for yourself that which you yourself need, when you will wait to let that manifest through someone else. And so this is the basis of the spirit of the service to which you are called.
Service, what does it mean? Well it may mean a number of things, but one thing it means is that there is a recognition of the basic principles of giving and receiving—and unless you give without price, you will never receive in any true sense. Oh, I suppose I could prostitute my abilities and sell them for a little while, but it would soon be a spoiled something, it would not be the genuine article. Pretty soon it would degenerate and the whole thing would vanish. In the meantime I could probably amass a million dollars, but I could not take it with me. People like it too well. They would not bury it in the grave with me. So the impersonal attitude is absolutely essential to one who would serve.
The impersonal attitude is not, as some imagine, that you try to reach a point where you are a complete snob, you just do not see anybody. “I'm completely impersonal. Don't bother me. Don't expect me to have any sympathy or feeling, or this or that. I'm impersonal! Look at me!” That is stretching it a little perhaps, but I want you to see the contrast. Impersonality does not rob you of personality, and it does not segregate you from people. You begin to have your heavenly personality made manifest and you do not deny your patterns of relationship with human beings, because you are not denying your pattern of relationship with God. And so the impersonal attitude is established in you the moment you can pass the tests which show that you are not trying, or concerned about trying, to get that which you yourself need.
Consider the tests through which the Master passed. He was hungry, and the devil came along and said, “If thou be the son of God, do this.” How easily that little trick works with most human beings. “If you are so-and-so, then do this,” and by that little gimmick the devil takes control, because you start doing what he tells you to do forthwith. And what is the reason for action? Always something to get what you think you need. The Master was hungry. He needed bread. “If thou be the son of God, command that these stones be made bread,” says the devil. And if He had turned His hand over to try to produce what He needed, to fill His own hungry stomach, He would have become a servant of the devil and we would all have been damned. Remember that.
I do not care what you need, you cannot produce it for yourself without serving the devil, ever, anywhere, at any time! You may say, "Well how in the world am I going to live in this kind of a world?” It is easy enough if you let perfect love cast out all fear. Remember, I am giving you basic principles now, and if you let your mind get all busy trying to figure out, “Well now, how can I apply it to this? I can't see how it would apply to that. And how do you suppose it works over there? I just don't see. I just ... I've just got to know how it's going to work here, there, everywhere.” And little minds get busy and you start serving the devil. Leave it alone! We have gotten this far together. Maybe we will go the rest of the way, if you will let it alone! Stop trying to figure it all out. So, in season. But the impersonal attitude is that which the Master revealed under test.
What was the final one? The devil took Him up into an exceedingly high mountain, and he said, “Behold, the kingdoms of the world. These will I give you if you will fall down and worship me, and you can get what you want and what you need. You know, LORD, you really need the kingdoms of this world, and if you'll just worship me, I'll give them to you.” Sure, the devil could afford to do that, because then he would own God Himself and he would still have the kingdoms. But the peculiar part of it was that the kingdoms already belonged to our LORD. And they always do. So do not sell yourself short to the devil just to get something that you already have or that really belongs to you. That is poor business, and the devil always works on a basis that is poor business, poor business sense for you at least. So the impersonal attitude is not concerned about trying to make something manifest for oneself, no matter how great the need—physical needs, material needs, needs from any standpoint whatsoever. And as soon as you pass that point, you cannot any longer be controlled by the devil, because that is the devil's only hold on you, to trick you into thinking that you can get what you need if you just serve him. “Just do this.”
What was it that the serpent said to Eve that started all this mess? “The LORD doth know that this fruit is good to eat, and it would cause you to have knowledge, so that you can be as gods knowing good and evil. The LORD God doth know that it is good to make one wise. It is something very desirable, something you need. And O how badly you need it so that you can be wise. Now, if you just do what I tell you, you can get for yourself what you need, because you need to be wise … remember, you need to be so wise … wise … wise … you need to be wise. Now, if you'll just do what I tell you to do you can get for yourself what you need … what you need … get it now … just reach out your hand and get it … just take it … just take it and you can have it … just take it.” So the devil whispers and the serpent whispers … whispers, “Get it … get it … get it … just take it.” And then you are a servant of the devil. If you can be tricked into trying to get something that you yourself need, you stop serving God in that instant, period.
If you follow the directions of the spirit, you will be drawn in season to the time and place and circumstance where you can receive that which you need. You are receiving what you need now, are you not? That is different. It is being given—being given. And what are you taught? “Now if you'll just do this, and you do that, you'll be able to go out and get what you want. You can get an automobile, you can get a house, you can get a position, you can get a raise in wages, you can get health, you can get anything you want. You can get love, you can get friendship, and so on. All these things you can get.” Have I ever told you that? No, not once. Not once. I have been telling you to stop trying to get the things you need! And at first, to the human mind, that sounds so senseless. “What kind of a freakish idea is this?” But you cannot have what you need until you stop trying to get it. And when you stop trying to get it you begin to have it, because you begin to be on God's side. As you let the things of God be given through you into the pattern of life's expression the things essential to you start coming back to you. God starts giving through someone else to you. And it is this pattern of interchange that makes eternal life a joy. Stop and think about that a moment. Eternal life? What a boring thing it would be on any other basis! The only thing that makes it possible for eternal life to be the joy that it is in reality is this everlasting, unceasing pattern of interchange, each giving to the other that which he needs.
God Himself does not attempt to make manifest for Himself that which He needs. That which He does is to fill the needs of someone else, somewhere else, His creatures, His creation, somehow. It always works. And until there is something to give back to Him, He must go without that which He needs. He needs you. How long has He had to go without you? How can He get you? He cannot have you until you give Him that which He needs—yourself. And once you do that, you begin to be a focalization in manifestation on earth, a focalization of Shekinah. You begin to live and move and have your being in Shekinah, and all patterns of Heavenly Magic—above or below, or anywhere, in heaven or on earth—all patterns of Heavenly Magic issue forth from Shekinah. Without Shekinah there is no Magic, not even the Magic of Living—just existence.
So you have come here in answer to the call to receive some of my giving, that you in turn may share in giving, that you may increase the manifestation on earth of Shekinah, until the Magic of Life shall appear for all who respond, and the atmosphere of the Kingdom of Heaven shall enfold all who yield, and the control patterns of truth shall establish the Divine Design. And you begin to see and know the meaning of the words: “Behold, I make all things new.”
