In the normal expression of man and woman in true blending, the woman is the mother and the man is the father, but that is just the first faint beginning of the creative sex expression which should exist between men and women. The greatest thrills, joys and happiness possible come to those who enter into union in mental and spiritual sex expression.
In the mental plane the man is the negative and creative half of the union, and it is he who gives birth to the idea children which have been "fathered" in him by the woman who gave him the inspiration to attain.
The advance of women into this field of bringing forth idea children, as well as physical children, gives the key to that which is coming in the New Age expression, where complete union will be made manifest in each individual, so that each one will be complete and whole within the one self. It also shows how necessary it is for men to awake to what is taking place.
Women are leaving the field of physical sex expression to enter the field of mental sex expression, which has always been man's domain. Men should be willing that women so advance, but they should take care that they make equally earnest efforts to advance into the next higher plane of sex union and expression, which is the spiritual. Women are naturally more sensitive to the spiritual sex union than is the average man, and as women round out their life expression through activity in the plane of mental sex union, they will be ready to fill their places in the oneness of true spiritual union as it will appear in the coming Age.
The normal man should be quite at home in the plane of mental sex expression, for this is his normal sphere under conditions as the world has known them for the past few ages. And men have been more sensitive to the physical sex union than the average woman. Therefore, the field to which men must now devote their untiring effort is in the spiritual sex union. Many men have responded to this urge to advance, to a certain degree, and from this partial response have come all of the great inventions, the advances in scientific understanding, and the advances in gaining great power in the world. The sad part of it is that most of these advanced expressions have been warped and misused to satisfy fleshly desires and appetites. However they show that some men are responding to the New Age influence, just as surely as some women are. In the majority of cases, with both men and women, these advances have been incomplete and to a great degree unsatisfactory from a standpoint of cosmic values. Nevertheless it shows the trend toward that which impends. The great need is for both men and women to learn how to use these advances wisely, and the greatest need is for the vast multitudes who are still asleep in the fog of physical expression to awake and make the great advance into New Age expression with the comparatively few who are consciously working to this end.
The world is changing, and the old ideas will no longer stand. You who read these pages have the great opportunity of preparing yourselves now to be in the lead in the great changes that come, and you should do everything you can to help awaken others to the great need of the hour. Intelligent and controlled sex expression on the mental and spiritual planes is needed now, and this must completely transcend the physical expression if one would be able and ready to make the change that one must in order to enter into the New Age life. Now is the time to awake and seek first, last and always for the spiritual meanings of the cosmic life within each individual. This is the only way.
To the degree that the individual's love and attention are directed toward union with the inner meanings and life essence in all the natural objects with which one comes in contact, including himself, the individual will find that the inner fire will be released upward in his body and will produce creative power in the mental and spiritual planes of being. This attainment is not obtained through subduing the body, as some have taught, but by wise and firm training of the body, so that it becomes a perfect and delicate instrument through which the life essence may come into glorious manifestation.
This training must begin in the little things of everyday life, and after the body has been trained to respond expertly in the little things, it will be possible to allow the greater things to manifest from within oneself. Controlled generation of mind force in the little things brings mastery in all things. This is the reason why the great Teacher gave such emphasis to the little things of everyday life. He who cannot find, appreciate and use the mental and spiritual secrets that are contained in the little things cannot hope to understand the great secrets of the great things. The law is that progress can be attained only through constant and orderly growth from little things to great things.
You will remember that the first two steps in love involve the mental processes of awareness and decision. This lesson has revealed to you the way in which the mental awareness may be attained, and when such awareness is the result of spiritual searching the individual will find that he will have within himself the wisdom required to decide rightly, for he will feel an inner response to the truth. When he begins to perceive and respond to the truth, he will find that the truth will make one free from all the disturbances of the world, and free to enjoy the glorious wonders of the spiritual realms which he finds within himself. It is by such means that one may enter into oneness, or union, with Cosmic Being.
As the fire of life within is released and directed upward through the process of concentrating the attention on the mental and spiritual secrets of natural objects, each day will bring new flashes of illumination, and the individual will know that "joy unspeakable and full of glory," and he will dwell in that "peace which passeth all understanding"—that is, passeth all the understanding of the physical plane of being.
