Every Word
from Moses

What was it the Master said? How beautifully He met that point of testing. “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Not by the words that proceed out of the mouth of the devil; not by the words that proceed out of the mouth of the self-active mind of man. You will not live by them. You will die by them.
That was one of the neatest rejections of an unreal pattern that you can find anywhere in all literature. If thou be the Son of God, you had better prove it to me—“If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.” And so the unwary mind would have said, “Well, I am going to have to prove it.” And whom would He have been obeying? Not God, but satan. And what did He say? “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Not by the words that are proceeding out of your mouth, O satan! You cannot trick me into obeying you. You cannot trick me that way. “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
And while we are on that subject, why is it that human beings live such miserable periods of existence? Why do they fail to live? Because they fail to let the words that are proceeding out of the mouth of God proceed through their own mouths. Unless the Word of God is proceeding out of your mouth, I do not care what you know, what Truth you think you know, what knowledge you think you have, what ability you think you have, you are not living, you are dying. There is only one Way, and that is to live by the words that proceed out of the mouth of God—not the words that did proceed.
As long as we consider the Scripture from the standpoint of the revelation of principle and pattern, design and purpose, well and good, but the moment you take this [Bible] as the Word of God as if God had quit speaking, as if He had turned dumb, as if He had nothing more to say, and you try to live by the Word that God did speak, you will fail. That is another one of those tricks that has been foisted by the devil on humanity today.
They say, “Well, I try to live by the Bible.” No one can live by the Bible. You can only live by the Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God, not the Word that did proceed, but by the words that are now proceeding, and until you learn to live by the words that are proceeding out of the mouth of God in this day, in this hour, you have not reached a point of living, nor can you, no matter what you do, no matter how brilliant you think you are, how wise, how much knowledge you think you have. It does not work.
No, you cannot live by the Bible; it is impossible. You can die by the Bible, but you cannot live by it. You can find here [the Bible] the wonderful, marvelous revelation of the words of God, yes, the words that were spoken in times past. You can find a revelation of purpose and principle, law, order, design. You can find a portrayal of the goal, all vitally important, but as the Master put it in the first test—and until you pass that first test you have not really entered into Ministry—“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” And let us not assume that the words stopped proceeding out of the mouth of God some time in the past when the last word was written in what we call the Bible. God did not shut his mouth and refuse to speak again.
As the Master outlined—and He said Follow Me—“The words that I speak unto you, I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” He causes those words to appear. And it is letting the present day expression of the Word of God flow through your lips that will permit you to begin to live, and without that, no matter what else you do, you cannot live in any true sense.
