I would like, if possible, to help you to a deeper realization of the actuality of the One Christ Body. Intellectually you accept the idea to some degree. You recognize yourselves as members of the Body, or as branches of the Vine, but there needs to come a point of vivid realization, permeating each and every one all the time, that the Body as such is a reality. You may say that the outer responsibility of the creation of that Body rested and does rest with me. I accept that responsibility, and I did accept it or you would not be here. The inner responsibility rests with the LORD of Lords. The responsibility of the responsivenessofthesubstance rests with you and all who work with you in relationship to that Body.
This Body is being created in the image and likeness of God. Man originally was created in the image and likeness of God so that the reality of God might appear on earth through man. The manifest focalizations of reality in their varying aspects through all the members of the Body have been brought to a degree of focus, making the actuality of the form of a Body. This work has been carried on, first in the darkness of the womb, so to speak, and then in 1946 the birthoftheBody became a reality and its development was carried on in the outer sense where it could be seen and recognized by those who had eyes to see. In Revelation it speaks of the Seven Seals; or, in the physical body, we find that which is so spoken of manifesting as the endocrine gland system, the ductless glands. There are seven of these in the human body. There are Seven Seals spoken of in Revelation. In the Body there are seven focalizations of spirit extending to these seven glands, or Seven Seals. The balanced, mature function of these Seven Seals on what we might call the opened basis—that is, in the range of consciousness and attunement in the Divine Pattern of polarity with God—is just now becoming a reality in the Unit. Now I use this one point as an illustration, not that I intend to go extensively into a discussion of all parts of the Body. This Body is a Body—exactly that—made in the image and likeness of God.
The responsiveness of the individuals involved, the steadfastness of their polarity, determines the effectiveness of the creative processes, because creative force cannot act more effectively than is permitted by the substance utilized in the creative process. Every detail in the Body is important. In your physical body it is so. So also in the Christ Body. If you stop to think about it individually, you will recognize that you would be overwhelmed with the necessity imposed by a commission to go into the world, gather individuals and produce such a Body. I think there needs to be a deeper appreciation of the patient work that has gone into the actual development and making of that Body as a fact, not merely as an allegorical illustration but as a physical fact on earth, fulfilling the requirements, made in the image and likeness of God.
You as yet have comparatively little knowledge of your own positions and places, but that stands as no barrier to your correct function in your places. Too much knowledge along this line, as it has been in the past, would have been a decided barrier, whether you think so or not. Knowledge concerning a certain part, without extending understanding with respect to other parts, would be only a little knowledge, and it would be a dangerous thing. I have had to say something about some of the parts and their functions, and almost invariably speculation has resulted and individuals have started injecting their own self-active concepts into the picture, so that difficulties were increased rather than lessened. The principles involved have been repeated to you often enough: the One Law; fusion in the fire of the Christ Love, which permits the outpouring of the Holy Spirit; letting patience have her perfect work, etc. Unless one appreciates something of the Body, of the wonder of the human body, of the intricate mechanisms and functions in the Body, one cannot truly appreciate that which is involved in creation on earth as the one Christ Body.
Whenever, in the physical body, some portion begins to function contrary to the basic pattern of health, we have sickness. If the cells, in any extreme sense, become self-active we have cancer. There are numerous illustrations possible, but any function, in any organ or in any part of the body, that is contrary to the pattern of health and life in an individual is an illness. It complicates things. It prevents effective or correct function to some degree. The material utilized in the building or the creating of the one Christ Body has had self-consciousness up to a certain point—it has been to a degree self-conscious. If it had been self-conscious in all aspects, it would have been impossible. Most of what has been accomplished has been possible because there has not been too much self-consciousness.
Now the difficulty of creation with self-conscious substance has been that human beings, even after they have been bought with a price, though they belong to the LORD and are nottheirown, and are dedicated to the ministry of the Third Sacred School—all of this, and yet they have acted as if they had the right to develop ideas according to their own concepts, to more or less do as they please, like children at play. Actually, when we come to the point of dedication to the LORD, we either mean it or we do not. Once there is that recognition that we have been bought with a price in the name of our LORD and through His ministry on earth, any further choice in a self-active sense is a monstrous evil. We either belong to the LORD or we do not. And if we do, we should not talk or think or feel or act as if we do not. If we are His, it is His business to bring about the changes necessary to make possible the true expression of reality for which each one is individually responsible.
When there is a feeling reaction that is contrary to the fact that we belong to the LORD it is an impurity that properly has no part or place in the lifestream of the body. The Body, to fulfil its responsibility, must be vigorous, full of health and life. That health and life that allows fulfilment cannot appear through a diseased body, a body diseased by every sort of self-active reaction and concept and attitude. When something is arbitrarily injected or forced into the mechanism of the Body it is like a splinter or a needle puncture. It produces a wound. Every arbitrarily injected concept produces a wound. Self-wounding is pure foolishness, and yet it has been taking place all through history.
We look back to the time of Elijah, when he stood on Mount Carmel with the prophets of Baal, and we read the record of how they called upon their god, and leapt upon the altar, and cut themselves, and the blood gushed out upon them, and if we stop to think about it, we say, “What foolishness to imagine that such function would impress God!” or, “Can any good result from such function?” We say, “What poor, benighted heathen, living in darkness; what foolishness!” And yet, self-wounding, foolishly and without any gain whatsoever, but allloss, has not been limited to the days of Elijah and the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. It has continued down to this present day, and has been made manifest here in those within the sound of my voice. Actually it is utter foolishness. It gains absolutely and utterly nothing for the individual or anyone else. It is all loss, and it hinders fulfilment, not only for the individual but for others. Self-wounding of the members of the Body by arbitrarily injecting self-actively devised concepts and ideas and attitudes prevents the full, vigorous function of the Body.
Either we belong to the LORD or we do not. If we say we do but act as if we don't, we make a farce of the matter. God is not mocked, but human beings’ self-activity causes individuals to mock themselves and to make themselves a mockery. Either we belong to the LORD or we do not; and if we do, then there is nomorequestion. Then we are to act and live and think and speak and feel according to that which is the fact, and any other feeling or attitude or idea or expression or act is then a lie.
Concerning the new heaven and the new earth, it is written that “there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth ... or maketh a lie.” As long as feelings or attitudes, thoughts, words or deeds are making a lie, they are preventing true entrance into the new spiritual consciousness. These are facts. They are true regardless of any idea or concept on anyone's part anywhere. Either we belong to the LORD or we do not. And if we do, then our lives, through thought and word and deed, feeling and attitude, are not glorifying Him if they are expressions of lies, and any feeling or attitude or thought or word or deed that does not recognize the fact that we do belong to the LORD and to Him only is not glorifying Him. We are emissaries of divine light: that name is taken from the Word of our King: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
The daily lives that we live, our thoughts and words and deeds, our feelings, our attitudes, either glorify our Father in heaven or they are lies, one or the other. Could any of you say that you believe that the glory of God has been made manifest here to the fullest extent possible, according to that which has been made possible at this point, or up to this point? I do not think any one of you would dare to say that such is the case. God’s glory could have been made manifest much more fully, much more vibrantly, through you under the circumstances that have existed, with conditions as they have been, with the knowledge that you have had, with you individually as you are, if you had let it be so, if you had let your light shine according to your DeclarationofDedication. That is a fact, whether we like to look at it or not. We cannot get away from the fact that it is so. God is glorified when our life expressions are true to the fact that we belong to God. When individually the members stop the foolishness of self-wounding, the healing power of God will manifest much more rapidly. Of what value is it when one wound is healed, or nearly so, and the individual proceeds immediately to make another—one wound right after another, so that the individual can be given treatment, or doctored, or allowed certain privileges? What is gained? Nothing! It is better to be well. It is better to be strong. It is better to be vigorous. It is better to be about our Father's business. We cannot excuse ourselves by saying that we knew no better, or by declaring before the judgment bar of God that we were merely poor, benighted heathens, doing the best we could, leaping upon the altar, slashing ourselves. This Body, the Body of the Living Christ, is a real Body, having its parts and members. I have mentioned specifically the Seven Seals, the seven endocrine glands of the body. They are vitally important to the health and growth of the body, but the body is more than its glands. If the Seven Seals are opened there is opportunity for the fulness of illumination throughout the WholeBody. Human beings have wasted a great deal of time and energy trying to open the Seven Seals in themselves by manipulations or exercises mentally or physically, or some other way. The only way the Seven Seals can be opened is through the Spirit of the Living Christ. In this Body, whether the whole body will let it have meaning or not, the Seals, or glands, have been established in their places and to whatever degree may be now necessary they have been opened, not that all the Seven Seals had to be opened by this time in any one individual, but in the one Christ Body they have been opened, and that has meaning for those who let go.
That does not mean that the human minds of all of you have to understand all there is to know about the Seven Seals, or that you have to know who carries the focalizations of the Seven Seals. You do not need to know. Knowing in the conscious mind would not accomplish anything in helping you along the Way. And if there be any self-activity it would hinder you. The fact is that when each one responds properly, according to his or her own polarity, and remains true to his or her dedication, creative currents are at work through the individual whether he knows it or not. The individual does not need to know all that is accomplished through him. All he needs to know is made available for him to know: the reality of polarity, for which he is responsible, and the external functions necessary to his participation in daily life.
I think that each one here would be ready to acknowledge that in the past few years enough truth has been given in the current of Divine Love so that if it all had been accepted and truly assimilated and truly lived by, we would be further along than we are. My point, then, is that that which has been needful, the provision of the LORD, has been available and made manifest, though it has not been fully received and completely utilized. When it is realized that this work of creating the one Christ Body is a delicate operation, and all the parts have to be coordinated and in their places and function according to their particular calling, it will be seen that what we have done and are doing has vital meaning.
Some may say, “How am I to function in my place if I don't know what it is?” I have had many individuals ask me as to their place so they could function in it. If you have to know what your place is to function in it you are not ready to know anything about it. If you did know anything about it you would probably complicate matters. All that is required of you is that you be obedient to the One Law, that you maintain correctpolarity, that you stop idolatry and worship the One God and Him only, and in such loveresponse let go to the workings of His Spirit through you. That one thing—correctpolarity regardless of anything else, regardless of who does what or of what takes place in the world—is the one thing required, and the rest is taken care of by a higher intelligence than the human. Gradually, as you begin to function in your polarity, truly, consistently, you begin to know something about your place; but if when you begin to know something about it you try to function in it according to some self-active concept, you spoil it. You cannot be given full knowledge concerning your place all at once. It must be a gradual process, and if when the process begins, so that you begin to have a little knowledge, you start trying to use it according to your own concepts, you are thereby eating of the forbidden fruit, and that brings death.
The polarity must hold while the process of expansion takes place, so that in season you may see and know and understand all things needful. In the human body, is it your mind that tells the heart to beat? Do you think every time you draw a breath? Is it your thoughts that cause digestion to take place, or determine the number of red blood corpuscles in your bloodstream? Is it the wisdom of your human mind that determines the operation of the spleen? What do you know of the pancreas or the islets of Langerhans? I could go on and on and on, and you would have to admit, at every step of the way, that it is not your human mind that causes all these things to work in your body. So also in the Christ Body. Your human intelligence, pygmy thing that it is, is not required to know and understand the influences of the seven glands, the ductless glands. Your mind, in the human sense, is utterly incapable of even comprehending it, let alone directing it.
What is required of you? That you be obedient to the Law, all of it, regardless of anything else, that you remember that you are not your own but that you have been bought with a price, and that price is big enough already without your prolonging it or being stubborn or perverse or something else. Some people say, “I try so hard to let go to God.” Actually, in the final analysis, that is nonsense, ridiculous nonsense. Why should anyone have to try so hard to let go? That is the foolishness of the human mind. Do you belong to God? Do you acknowledge it? Then act like it, and you have let go. If you declare that you belong to God on the one hand and act like you belong to yourself on the other, and say that you try to let go, it is nonsense, childishness, foolishness. Either we do or we do not. We know that we do belong to God and are therefore without excuse, and since we know we do, all we have to do is act like it in feeling attitude, thought, word and deed. Then we have let go. Then we are obedient to the Law. Then God can do the works, and His Spirit working through the individual can bring forth into manifestation all those things needful to the working of His Kingdom on earth. This mention of the Christ Body is not merely an allegorical illustration, a symbol. ItisaBody. It is being built with precision, with exactness, not to be a dead form, but to be a living thing. And that work of creation can go forward no faster than the responsiveness of the substance of the Body permits. Yes, the one Christ Body is a reality, and it is a Body, a Body in fact, here and now. How does it work? When you can tell me how your own body works, when you can answer my questions concerning your own body, then I will tell you how the Christ Body works. How does the Body work? As far as the human conscious mind is concerned, by obedience to the Law; for as long as self-active function remains, or eating of the forbidden fruit, trying to run God's business, there will be failure. As long as there is idolatry there cannot be victory.
God does not require you to understand all the mechanisms and intricate functionings and workings of even your own body, let alone the one Christ Body. All He asks is that you recognize the Law and remain obedient thereto all the time, and He will do the rest. Is that so difficult a requirement? I think not. When you let the Father do the works, then something real is done, something worthwhile is accomplished. If the Lord is not the one who builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.
And so tonight, if I have helped you to a realization of the reality of the Body as such, and to a deeper realization of the absolute necessity of obedience to the Law and of living in recognition of our dedication to God, then my words have accomplished that whereunto they are sent and they shall not return unto me void, for these words have I spoken in the name of our LORD and KING.
