Inner  Reality  of  the  Church

A  Personal  Message

Uranda   June 30, 1945

The Church is the net result of the cumulative processes of creative generation down through the ages as made manifest since the time of the fall of man. Tens and hundreds of thousands of individuals have lived and worked and died that this present manifestation of the Church might exist, but there is a realm of vibrational activity between the manifest formation of the Church and the Inner Reality of that which we call the Kingdom of Heaven.
The Positive Inner Reality provides the correct point of polarization for the sum total of the Negative Triune world. Various levels of life as manifest in the Negative Triune world respond to the Eternal Positive of the Inner Reality to various degrees in various ways according to the nature of the manifestation involved as found in the vegetable and animal kingdoms and in the realm of human existence.

The present outer manifestation of the Church provides a nucleus of responding vibrations in the world, and this nucleus is moving toward increasing degrees of coordination with the Inner Reality and an ultimate fusion therewith. However, the sphere of vibratory activity in the realms between the actuality of the outer manifestation of the Church and the Inner Reality provides the field of activity in which I am and shall be engaged during the period of this particular cycle: therefore, to illustrate the point more clearly, it might be said that while the Spirit of my Ministry and function fills and pervades the Church, I am, in a sense, separate from the Church.

This intermediate realm between the outer manifestation of the Church as it now is in actuality and the Inner Reality of ultimate perfection is that which is spoken of in the Bible as the heavens, or heaven, which shall be made new according to the promise at the time of the renewal of the earth. In this sense, then, the Church as a whole is working on the vibrations which are designed to bring about the renewal of the earth, and the activity of which I speak is designed to bring about the renewal of the heavens. Let no one assume that this has any reference whatsoever to the starry heavens of the universe with which astronomers deal, and neither does it have any reference to what we speak of as Heaven in the sense of the Inner Reality which is the Kingdom of God and the habitation of God-Beings. It is obvious that Heaven, the Kingdom of God, needs no renewal of any kind and if there be any need for renewal in the realm of the astronomical heavens, such things are most certainly beyond the realm of mere human beings.

I am concerned with that intermediate realm of vibratory activity through which the manifest form of the Church and of all responding formations and manifestations of the whole world must pass in order to reach a point where fusion with and in the Inner Reality becomes possible. It is not anticipated that you will fully understand the nature of this realm or the activities that are involved in this undertaking, but what has been above stated should give you some idea as to what I mean and it should be obvious that activity in this intermediate realm could not be undertaken on any suitable scale until the outer manifestation of the form of the Church had reached a point where it could function as a unified body without requiring my full and constant attention. That point has now been reached.

While there are many points of unconscious response in the world which coordinate in the activities of the intermediate realm, the only point to which I can look for consistent response and coordination is the manifestation of the Church and the individuals in it. Therefore, the Church forms the one gateway for a conscious approach to and coordination in the activity of the intermediate realm. This means that just as individuals are gradually drawn out of the world into the Church, just so will those who remain steadfast and who pass their tests be gradually drawn from within the Church into a state of consciously harmonized activity which leads the way toward a fusion of the Inner and the outer, thereby opening the way for the fulfillment of the words of Revelation 21:1—"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away."

It should therefore be clear that those who engage in the activity in the intermediate realm will not be leaving the Church behind but will rather be a focalized salient of the Church reaching ahead toward a point of fusion with the Inner Reality. Participation in the activity of the intermediate realm is not something which the individual may arbitrarily choose for himself, and then by some strange or mysterious means arbitrarily engage in. In the first place, it should be recognized that the matter of greatest importance to members of the Church is that they shall function effectively as members of the Church, so that the Church in turn may function as an effective unit. Only those who function effectively and correctly in the Church can have an opportunity to enjoy the privilege of conscious participation in the activities in the intermediate realm and, actually, all those who function effectively and correctly in the Church body will be having a part, whether they realize it or not, in the effective function in the intermediate realm.

This needs to be stressed very emphatically because if anyone thinks that he can fail to function correctly in the Church, or more or less arbitrarily jump ahead of the Church in order to participate more directly with me, he will find that it will not work. If you wish to participate with me, you will participate in the function and activity of the Church body, being certain that you do your part in the Church as a Faithful Servant of the Lord, and then, in due season, as you may become ready, and as there may be need for you to have a consciousness of your part and place in the activity of the intermediate realm, you will be drawn into a place where your vision and perception will be sufficient for the needs of your individual Service. Let me emphasize again that only correct and faithful function in the Church can open the way for an expanded vision and opportunity of function in what I have spoken of as the intermediate realm.

Just as you have been tested by your environment and the experiences of your life as you have moved forward, step by step, toward a more effective function as a member of the Church, just so will the natural experiences of your life and your function in the world and in the Church provide the tests which, when passed successfully, open the way for further advancement. To the degree to which you are in the world and not of it, these steps will come naturally and easily, as expressions of your own expanding Spiritual nature and sphere of vibrational activity, but to the degree that the natural experiences of your life in the Church and in the world present tests in relationship to your loyalty to the Lord and your integrity in giving fully of yourself and all that you have and are to the Service of the Lord and your brother man, you will find revealed to yourself those points in which you have immediate need for expansion of understanding and strengthening in Divine Purpose.

When you meet those things, which are to you as tests, tending to arouse in you wavering and uncertainty, you should pause to consider the Reality of your position as a Servant of the Lord, and your position in the Church and your position as a member of the human family, so that your attitude may be based upon a realization of who you are in Reality, and of the purpose for which you have life in this outer world. It should be remembered that you are not expected to have full understanding over night, and it is only natural that there should be times and circumstances when honest questioning is perfectly in order. It should also be recognized that you cannot at any point arbitrarily take the position that the fullness of understanding concerning any question shall come at any given time. In other words, the understanding necessary to answer the question can come only as you remember to keep on keeping on, letting yourself be drawn ever more fully into the Way of Reality.

As you remember the One Law, so that you maintain Negative Response to Reality, and avoid becoming positive to your rightful Positive, you will move surely, although it may seem at times to be slowly, toward the ultimate Goal. Those who become positive toward the Positive Center of things cannot hope to progress. In every instance where there has been a failure, so that an individual turned away from the Service, that individual has gone through a process of self-justification, by means of which he or she undertook to establish excuses for the positive attitudes toward Positive Reality, which finally brought him or her to a standstill and ultimately to turning away. Such processes of self-justification develop gradually, taking root here and there, in order to excuse the maintenance of crystallized concepts or preconceived ideas which prevent an expansion of consciousness and thereby in turn prevent the perception that would permit understanding.

Only as the individual recognizes that his only basis of function is provided by his own actual realizations, so that he does not attempt to function on the basis of someone else's realizations, can he hope to make progress. However, this correct policy of honestly facing the true nature of one’s own realizations should not permit an attitude of opposition to develop toward further steps upon the Way, and such honest convictions should not become crystallizations which prevent the natural outworking of expanded vision. Those who begin to look back toward the material things and comforts and concepts of the world do so at great peril. Those who undertake a life of selfless Service and let their lives be dedicated to the Lord, that in and through them God may be glorified, and their brother man may be blessed, find as they proceed along the Way that of a truth their lives are not their own. In the Service of the Lord, there is no such thing as holding out the promise that everything will be altogether lovely and that the individual can enjoy that which he himself chooses as being most pleasing to himself.

There are many ideas in the world to the effect that the adherents of certain schools of thought or religious beliefs can do as they please, and that they can gain an arbitrary control over other human beings, and over circumstances and affairs, to a degree that will let them do and be what they themselves choose. Such concepts are false, and they encourage in individuals the desire to be arbitrary dictators in circumstances which involve the lives of others than themselves. Aspirations to the state of dictatorship are not limited to those aggressive tyrants who have in times past started unholy and horribly destructive wars. If one were to carefully search out and record the facts, it would be possible to relate tens of thousands of instances to prove that individuals in all walks of life, from the most lowly up to those who are classed as the worldly great, have, when the opportunity presented itself, undertaken to use dictatorial methods in arbitrarily, controlling the lives of others. Such efforts are usually cloaked in the idea that such action is taken for the welfare of those who are involved who are conceived to have short-sighted vision and a lack of understanding in the matters involved.

Very often such dictatorial tyrants may be found in the home; sometimes in the person of the father, sometimes in the person of the mother, and sometimes in the person of one or more of the children. Such instances are found in the history of almost all organizations and movements. Instances of such activities are found in the history of small communities and large. It is not strange, then, that such instances appear at times in the governing cliques of nations. We have been successful through force of arms in removing certain dictators from the position of power which they held in world governments, and at this time our nation is still engaged in a war designed to eliminate aggressive dictatorship. However, the opportunity would not appear for big dictators to seize power and control nations if there were not hosts of little dictators who think to gain power by giving support to big dictators. The dictator's spirit and attitude must be removed from the hearts and minds of mankind as a whole before the world can be free of the dangers of dictatorial power in the hands of unscrupulous persons. It is very necessary that these facts be clearly understood, so that it will be seen that we recognize such things to be contrary to the best interests of all peoples. It might be argued that there have been benevolent dictators, and it is true that there have been individuals with dictatorial power who have used that power for the good and welfare of their people. It should, however, be remembered that the proportion of individuals who can be trusted with such powers is exceedingly small.

The question might arise as to why this matter is dealt with so fully in this connection, and the answer is so that the Principles involved may be clearly seen in relationship to the matter at hand. I myself have been accused of attempting to be, at times at least, dictatorial. An examination of the record will prove such complaints to be unfounded for this reason: I have never attempted to force anyone to do anything at any time. Those who have worked with me have voluntarily, of their own free will, chosen to do so. Under no circumstances has any form of coercion been used to secure cooperation. However, when individuals have of their own free will and choice chosen to work with me in the Service of the Lord, I have been very firm at times in pointing out that if individually or collectively a certain goal is to be attained, certain things are required of individuals and certain things must be done.

For those who walk in the Way with me, the door always stands open, that they may come in or go out as they shall choose. So long as they choose to dedicate their lives to the attainment of the Goal which we all envision; namely, the fulfillment of Revelation 21:1, so that true and lasting peace may be experienced by all peoples of the earth and so that in truth Revelation 21:4 may become an Eternal Reality, it must be recognized that the progress toward the Goal depends upon individual and collective function in harmony with absolutely fixed Laws and Principles which permit a positive function in accomplishment in the earth, here and now. We are working on the basis of a Divinely established Plan, which human beings cannot alter or change. This Divine Pattern is a blue print, so to speak, that has been given to us by the Lord, and we are instructed to build according to the blue print. We, as the builders, have no right to change or alter the blue print, and it behooves us to carefully abide by and fulfill the Divine Specifications that form the working instructions relating to the blue print.

No one is forced to work in the constructive program in which we are engaged, but those who do volunteer and choose to become a part of the Company of Earnest Ones who seek to build the edifice of human progress, according to the Divine Plan and Specifications, are under the necessity, so long as they are a part of the Company, to follow the blue print and conform to the Specifications, according to their highest and best possible understanding. This allows for mistakes in individuals and shortcomings of various kinds, but such things cannot become a part of the edifice. When and where they occur, they must be corrected. The mistakes of individuals cannot be allowed to remain a part of the edifice. In the outer human world a contractor who guarantees to construct a building according to certain plans and specifications may conceivably make a mistake but he is duty bound to correct that mistake, so that the building when completed is a fulfillment of that which is envisioned by the plans and specifications. If that be true in this outer world in relationship to humanly constructed buildings, how much more is it true in relationship to the work in which we are engaged.

It should be clear, then, that when I insist upon conformity to certain specifications, in relationship to the Plan, I am not in any sense being dictatorial, and I am not attempting to force anyone to be or do anything—I am only taking the attitude that while the individual chooses to work with me toward a mutual goal, he must conform to the Divinely established Specifications or the activity of his individual function will not only bring failure for himself but will tend greatly to nullify the constructive activities of all the others who are dedicated to this one Purpose. This should emphasize for you the importance of correct vibrational function within the Church, in harmony with the Laws and Principles of Reality which you have learned in the Third Sacred School. Also, you should see more clearly than ever before the important place which is held by the Church in the Cosmic Scheme of things as we work toward the fulfillment of our Divinely established Goal. Let us rejoice and praise the Lord that we have the opportunity and privilege of so doing, not for ourselves only but for all the children of men, from whatever race or place they may be. The requirements of our Service must necessarily be that we always give first thought to the greatest possible good for the greatest possible number, and not let that which might be merely pleasing in a personal sense interfere with progress toward the Goal. Such things cannot be accomplished in human strength or by reason of human wisdom—it is only as human beings let themselves be instruments in the Hands of God that it becomes possible to hope for the realization of our aspirations.
