One Motivation — To Glorify Our King
Uranda October 9, 1952
“For Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory.” The concluding portion of the Lord's Prayer is such a beautiful expression in acknowledgment of our KING. A loyal subject who goes before an earthly king acknowledges the kingship, and that concluding expression is such an acknowledgment. When those words are spoken with true meaning in the spirit of a loyal subject of the Kingdom it is an acknowledgment of the KING. It is in the spirit of that attitude that I would meditate with you upon a subject which may be called Control Factors. We have given this subject consideration before, but it is such a vast field, covering so many laws and principles, we need to learn more so that we may have a continually expanding vision, a deepening understanding and a higher sense of realization. The extent of the vision in the true sense determines the extent to which one lives. Extensive, expansive living requires true vision, clear vision, that is not limited to the immediate sphere of what may be physically seen. It is this perception with respect to that which is beyond immediate physical seeing about which we would meditate, something which to the uninitiated seems to be intangible.
The realization of the Truth brings one into a position where one may be made free to operate within such limitations as may appear, and free to operate beyond those limitations regardless of what may seem to be so to the limited realm of ordinary human comprehension. Extensive, expansive living requires clear, far seeing and this seeing is something which is not accomplished with the physical eyes. It is accomplished through the heart. Often you have, “I see”—not a matter of having seen something with the physical vision but having comprehended, having developed an inner awareness of something which had not before been known.
This matter of control factors is of vital importance, because only to the extent to which there is control in the realm of form is there a manifestation of the Kingdom, no matter how real the Kingdom may be from the standpoint of the invisible or heavenly realms of being. The reality of that Kingdom made manifest is that to which we are dedicated, and anything essential to the fulfilment of that goal is that which we not only accept but joyously receive. Resistance with respect to the necessities of correct function within the scope of the control pattern is, in fact, opposing the manifestation of the Kingdom. Any person who proves to be consistently dependable with respect to any vibrational factor of the invisible realm, giving it consistent form and meaningfulness on earth, is by that very fact a control factor in relationship to the coming of the Kingdom.
Human beings so often, even after they have made considerable progress along the way of spiritual development, are inclined to feel that the changing of the external circumstance would be the greatest blessing, and there is a tendency to look to some particular problem and become intellectually and emotionally involved in it and to feel that that particular form of manifestation would be the ideal blessing. When the human mind tends to fasten upon the manifestation of a particular blessing as an evidence of God's care, there is a disassociation of the individual himself from the Source and an identification with the problem, so that the human being is inclined to carry the spirit of gettingness instead of the spirit of givingness—and that is contrary to that which is essential to the fulfilment of the Divine Plan and the proper discharge of our responsibilities.
The Kingdom is a reality in the invisible realms. Anyone who questions the fact of the Kingdom in Heaven certainly has no consciousness of the Divine Pattern at all. The question of the reality of the Kingdom arises in relationship to its manifestation in the field of form where it may be seen and touched or examined by the human being. We realize all too keenly that this Kingdom of Heaven has not yet had adequate manifestation in form. This should cause us to be so consistent in correct function that we may, regardless of anyone else, do our part toward the development of the outer form through which that invisible Kingdom may be made visible. As soon as the consciousness of man has a true realization of that that which the Master called His Good News, “The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand,” there must be a vital, burning desire to do all that one can toward letting that Kingdom at hand have meaning on earth, not from the standpoint of trying to get into it or to get something from it, but to give it form on earth.
The pattern of motivation in relationship to centering is of peculiar importance as we examine this matter of control factors. What is the reason for the action? What is the motivating force within us? To achieve something for ourselves personally? To get something? Or is it simply to Glorify our KING?
There are two wrong patterns in relationship to function dedicated to the purpose of letting God's Kingdom have meaning on earth. The more prevalent pattern of erroneous function relates to trying to get away from something into that Kingdom as if one had to leave the earth to find it and to know it. But God created the earth and all the things that are therein—the realm of physical form—so that the Kingdom could have form on earth. It is not correct to try to get into the Kingdom in the sense of trying to get away from the things of the earth. The other erroneous pattern which very frequently manifests comes within the scope of that which is deemed to be service. The crusading spirit, the zealous reformers, tend to become side-tracked in this erroneous pattern, assuming a personal perception, as if the human being were called somehow on a basis of giving the things of the Kingdom to others on an arbitrary, fanatical basis. We see various patterns of activity in the world, schools of thought and general trends of consciousness which fall into this classification. It is definitely a pattern of separation from the Divine form. It always ignores the over-all picture and overemphasizes some particularized part which may perhaps have some real meaning, some real value in relationship to the whole, but it ignores or is ignorant of the relationship to the whole. And this specific point, which may have some real value, being over-emphasized is caused to appear either as if it were the whole, or as an attitude which causes the non-responding ones to feel that the individual is a fanatic.
From the standpoint of the Divine Pattern it is very important that we avoid anything that can properly be classified as fanaticism. But there must be zeal; we must have fire. Fanaticism always tends to move into some narrow pattern and does not partake of the wholeness Divinely ordained. Under the pattern of fanaticism there can appear to be some remarkable results, something which very often satisfies the human mind and acts as a narcotic which blinds the individual to the larger view, and the necessity of shaping the pattern with respect to that larger view, even though the immediate results are not so spectacular. This leaves the third pattern of function which is available to human beings who are interested in the fulfilment of God’s Will on earth—the correct pattern.
We have outlined the two erroneous patterns and it is because these erroneous patterns are widely manifest that we must acknowledge that the Kingdom of Heaven is not widely manifest. Erroneous patterns do not allow the manifestation of the Kingdom. They only allow a manifestation, on a temporary basis, of the erroneous pattern in the realm of form. Most human beings are supporting some such erroneous patterns rather than letting their whole energies be centralized in the correct function that allows the Kingdom of Heaven to manifest on earth. There are so many good, sincere, earnest people, deeply devoted to what they conceive to be the Christian life, or a good life, who come within the range of these two erroneous patterns. The limited human vision very often becomes seriously confused with respect to some pattern of function in the scope of the two erroneous patterns, so that lack of vision keeps the individual from seeing the difference between the central pattern and these two erroneous, or tangent patterns.
If as much earnestness, time, effort, expenditure of energy and material substance had gone into the work of bringing forth in form the right pattern, as has gone into the development of the two tangent patterns, the Kingdom of Heaven would have such manifestation on earth in this moment that there would be no power to withstand it or question it. There would be a control pattern extending into all the earth in blessing to all the children of men who would yield to it. In this one thing we have a factor which tends to slow down the development of that which God has ordained: good people, sincere, no question with respect to honesty, devoted to the tangent pattern because that is all they know. But lack of vision causes their efforts to come to naught. And this is the reason why all the millions of earnest Christians, all the millions of dollars spent, all the millions of lives lived in missionary or church or ministerial work have not brought that condition on earth where the Kingdom of God can be in actual control. The development of the tangent patterns does not allow the manifestation of power.
We are interested in the correct pattern, the one which avoids all extremes, takes into consideration all factors and remains centered with respect to purpose. And there is a Way by which the individual can, even though he does not have adequate understanding of the entire situation in any given moment, know whether or not he is properly centered, properly functioning in relationship to the fulfilment of God's Will and the coming of the Kingdom—he can know whether he is truly a control factor. The one who has reached a point of such dedication that he is willing to be a control factor no longer has any concern about getting something personally; not concerned about arbitrarily imposing anything on anyone. He loves to see the Blessings of God made manifest; he loves to see lives changed; but it is not in his getting nor in his giving that he has his pattern of centering or his own focalization of control which allows him to be a control factor. It is this point which has caused what might be called the slowness of development in our own Program because there is not yet adequate vision or understanding with respect to this one thing. It is not in the spirit of getting nor in the spirit of giving that we have our point of centering of purpose or motivation. There is the characteristic expression of the spirit of givingness manifest in and through those who are centered in God, but that is not the proper centering of motivation.
If we becoming citizens of the Kingdom, proving to be loyal, what is our primary concern? It is that the KING should be Glorified. Glory relates to the living of life. The Glory of God, or the Glory of the KING in Heaven, relates to the reality of life in that realm which to the human eye is invisible. The only way we can Glorify God is to let His Glory be made manifest on earth, and the only way we can do that is in living within the range of the Kingdom on earth in relationship to the realm of form. If we let God's Glory manifest in the places where it is not yet evident then we are Glorifying God. We cannot add to His Glory in Heaven but we can let His Glory increase on earth. That Glory cannot manifest except in relationship to the living of life. The living of life for what purpose? To get something? to give something? No. If the centering is with respect to either of these factors the tangent pattern of erroneous function appears. But if our purpose is to Glorify our KING, then we will have the spirit of givingness but we will not be in position to be carried into a tangent pattern by it.
Many sincere, earnest people have sought to give of their lives, energies, abilities, talents, their material substance, everything in various ways, only to find that they had moved out into a tangent pattern, and that giving did not result in that which they had anticipated because they had become subject to an erroneous pattern. The motivation was in the giving and it ends up with the individual trying to be as God, substituting oneself for God, a pattern which inevitably brings about a separation from God. There is not any question about the necessity of sharing God’s Spirit of givingness—but God is the Giver and the giving must be from God through us in relationship to that which is within the scope of control in the realm of form. The human being, in and of himself, cannot control the realm of Spirit, and if man is not properly centered he becomes subject to spirits which are contrary to his true self-interest.
So, the one and only means by which we may avoid becoming subject to these two tangent patterns of erroneous function which are so prevalent among those who sincerely seek to serve God, is to have one central, constant, consistent purpose which is manifesting as a control factor in all that we think and say and do, all the time without any exception. If that purpose is to Glorify the KING of the Kingdom, we are not going off on tangents. We will let the Spirit of the KING manifest, yes. We will share in His giving, share in His creative endeavor, we will do many things according to our talents and capacities, our stewardship, the use of our thoughts, words, deeds, the emotional patterns of our hearts, all of these things—but for what purpose? To Glorify our KING. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2021/05/meeting-my-king.html]
If we serve to try to save humanity or save human beings, we will, without exception, inevitably get into a tangent pattern. If you are trying to uplift human beings you will fail; I do not care how sincere you may be or what church or organization you belong to, or anything else. Oh, it is vitally essential that we be concerned about serving mankind by serving God. We are interested in seeing lives changed and people drawn to the pattern of reality but if our primary motivation is to serve others, help others, save others, according to any terminology, you will get into the tangent pattern of erroneous function. This is not to say there will be less service, less interest in helping human beings or being a blessing to them. It only means that the pattern of motivation must not, with respect to any moment, be to save anyone or to uplift anyone or to do any of the other things that are commonly thought of in relationship to serving God. The primary point of motivation must be to Glorify the KING. If you are letting your function be centered in the motivation of Glorifying the KING as a loyal subject of the Kingdom [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2019/01/subjects-of-king-rupert-maskell-and.html] then you will be doing those things which will increase the form and meaningfulness of the Kingdom, and human beings will be blest and uplifted. You will be serving human beings, you will see their lives changed, but it will never be primarily an effort to uplift someone or save someone or change someone.
If you will examine the pattern of my own Ministry in relationship to you, individually and collectively, what do you find? Not the usual approach of a minister who sets out to change you or save you. According to your response, your various capacities, in every moment, you have seen the manifestation of that which had a primary purpose: to Glorify our KING. It was because of that that the pushings and pullings of human personalities could not disturb; that you have seen the manifestation of patience, the manifestation of that which remained free of the difficulties with which you yourselves labored at times, because no matter how many problems were presented to me you found I did not become subject to them, embroiled in them. No matter how long I may have ministered to you, no matter in what ways, my primary motivation was not at any time to save you or to change you or to uplift you. No. The moment any personal pattern of determination became a factor in the equation, what happened? They had no control; no power to reach me, change me. Why? If I had been primarily concerned about getting, on the one hand, there would have been failure. How about the alternate pattern? The individual who becomes involved trying to help people, goes out to save them according to the usual pattern of churchification, has what result? It does not work.
The only way you can live a life untouched by all these various factors—the flow of human emotion, the changing patterns of circumstance—the only way you can live free, untouched in the circumstance, reaching out beyond the limitation of the circumstance, is to have a central pattern of motivation that is never lost in any moment with respect to any necessity—to Glorify the KING. Not to save human beings, but to Glorify the KING. Not to solve problems, but to Glorify the KING. Not to get anything, but to Glorify the KING.
Oh, things will be gotten. There will be those things which come into the pattern of control. Why? Because their coming will help to Glorify the KING. There will be individuals saved from their own limitations. Why? To particularly bless them? No, not at all. To Glorify the KING. So that someone can stand up and say, “Look what I did?” Ah, no. Each step is centered in one motivation—to Glorify the KING. Anything that deviates from that in primary motivation will fail. No matter how sincere, how earnest you are because if you are trying to save human beings you will fail. Who are you? God Almighty? That you as a human being should set out to save human beings? Why are the churches without power? Because they are trying to be as God. I am simply pointing to the fact that in the range of those who think to serve God there are these two primary patterns of erroneous function.
There is only one right central pattern of correct function, and the central motivation with respect to every thought, every attitude, every feeling, every word, every deed, must be to Glorify the KING. Such centering causes all things, large and small, to begin to work together in the realm of form, to Glorify the KING. What can we do to Glorify the KING more than to give the KING a Kingdom in form? His is the Kingdom. His is the Power. Are you going to go out and do it as a human being, change yourself, grow, develop, achieve something or other? Or are you going to change someone else? What are you going to do?
Ah, Blessed Ones, it is not what you do in any such sense that truly carries forward the Service of God on earth. It is what you do to Glorify the KING. All of your talents, all of your abilities, the hours, the days, the months, the years, all of your life—you are a steward over all these things. How are you doing? You are a steward over hours, days; over talents, abilities; you are a steward over your capacities of feeling or heart. How are the feelings of your heart tonight, or how have they been today? Have they been pure, centered in God, each and every feeling in your heart dedicated to the Glorification of your KING? Or have some of those feelings been glorifying some phase of the kingdom of darkness? You are a steward, not just with respect to outer things in the realm of form, possessions of various sorts. These things in form must be brought into the pattern in order to Glorify the KING, to give form to His Kingdom on earth. But can it be achieved by individuals who neglect to maintain correct stewardship with respect to their thoughts, with respect to their words, with respect to their feelings? What is it that is going to permit the manifestation of control in you?
The point is this: What is your motivation? To get something? Oh, for such a good cause, for such a good purpose, to help someone. You are going to try to get something, are you? You are going to influence people and win friends? You are going to get something to Glorify God? You will get into that erroneous pattern as surely as you try it. That is not the way. Oh, you are going to give someone something, give someone a lecture. You are going to prove how great you are in the realm of God’s service on earth, so that you can show people how much you have to give to others? Are you? It is such a good purpose and your intentions are so good. That is what paves the road to hell—good intentions. No.
There is only one way—when you are a faithful steward with respect to your feelings, so that every feeling which is allowed expression in form in your own heart Glorifies the KING, when every word that passes your lips Glorifies the KING, when every attitude you express toward your fellows Glorifies the KING, and every act Glorifies the KING. That must be the center of motivation. Oh, you may make some mistakes and you may be misunderstood sometimes because the human perception may fail to understand why you act thus and so. How often I have been brought under judgment because there was no vision, no understanding of the wholeness of the pattern. There was not the ability to see into the hearts and minds of human beings and to see the reason for the pattern of action. It is so easy to set oneself up as a judge and to prove oneself to be serving the adversary and not the KING—because the KING did not make you a judge over your fellows. And there is no room for the spirit of self-aggrandizement.
Why do you do day by day? Is it to the best of your vision and understanding to Glorify the KING? One cannot long be dedicated to that purpose and suffer any self-delusion with respect to any phase of life. Oh, you may not instantly be able to function perfectly—no one expects you to—but if you have that motivation with respect to all things without exception, if you never slip from that one central pattern of motivation, you very quickly learn. It is all to Glorify the KING. If, within the scope of your vision and understanding, your true motivation, without any self-delusion, without any rationalization, is to Glorify the KING, it will be used. Even though it is short-sighted in some fashion, your vision will expand, you will learn the lessons necessary, and you will learn to be a good steward with respect to all your capacities, all your talents, a good steward with respect to the golden hours, the blessed days, the opportunities at your hand, your capacities of heart and mind, your words and acts.
Are you a good steward? Can you inspire others to right stewardship? Why right stewardship? What is its purpose? To Glorify the KING. How can you inspire others to that right pattern of function unless you are a good steward? For what purpose? To make yourself appear to be wise in the eyes of others? That will not work. Only one thing will—to Glorify the KING. You may make people think that you are very much interested in saving them from something or other—you have had people try it with you probably back along the way, and it is possibly one reason you are here. They were going to save you. Very important they were. The important thing is: Do not make the same mistake in this Service! For if the pattern of your action as a steward over all these things in the realm of form, feelings, attitudes, words, deeds, material substance is to get something, or to have the appearance of giving something, what happens? You fail. You get into a pattern of erroneous function. Why do you act in any moment?
Why am I here before you? To Glorify the KING
Why have I ever given an attunement? Why have I ever ministered in any way whatsoever? Look back and examine the pattern. Many times you could not understand me or my function because on the one hand it was not possible to classify it in the spirit of gettingness that the world knows so well; and on the other hand it did not classify in the realm of the world's pattern of saving people or the human concepts of service. It just did not fit. So, I have been judged and misunderstood many, many times. But what is the fact? Examine it. My whole purpose is to Glorify the KING. Does it not Glorify the KING to increase the number of citizens in the Kingdom? To save human beings? Oh, no! To have more citizens in the Kingdom? Oh, yes! For what purpose? To Glorify the KING. It makes it so simple. And if one person will not come in, does it bother you? Maybe he will learn his lesson sometime. If not, he is no good anyway. Those who respond and are drawn into the pattern will make good citizens of the Kingdom. For what purpose? To Glorify the KING.
The only way we can Glorify the KING on earth is to have a living manifestation of the Kingdom on earth, with people in it, with the substance conforming to the Laws of the Kingdom, with hearts and minds functioning according to the principles of the Kingdom. If you would let your service increase, if you would truly serve God, remember: Your primary purpose must always be, without any exception at any time or place or in any circumstance, to Glorify the KING. Then you do not have to be worried about human values, human questionings, human possibilities.
You can so easily trust when your only centering motivation is to Glorify the KING. You are not trying to get anything, you are not afraid of anyone taking anything away from you. You are free in the Truth of the Kingdom. There may be pressing circumstances round about, limitations of every sort, but you are still free. Why? Because you can look beyond the realm of limitations and see the action of your Spirit reaching into the hearts and lives of the children of men. To do what? To save them? Oh, no. To Glorify the KING, because those who respond will make good citizens. They will help Glorify the KING. I am not interested in any human being on the face of the earth except as he or she may help me Glorify the KING. Otherwise, human beings mean nothing, except perhaps in a potential sense, if they live long enough to wake up. We are interested, not in saving people as such, but in inspiring human beings to Glorify the KING. Let that be your centering motivation and you will be a control factor in the Kingdom of God on earth.
Do not try to analyze place. Be a control factor with respect to that of which you are capable, within the sphere of your proper influence and control. Be a control factor. How? Not according to the erroneous patterns prevalent in the world but because your primary motivation joins with mine. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2017/10/passion-for-king-martin-exeter-june-7.html] How can one be so impersonal and yet so personal? How can one enfold human beings in love and consideration and tenderness, no matter how many times they try to hurt or destroy, no matter how many times one may be disappointed? How can one do it? If you are trying to save people it will not work; trying to get something, it will not work. Why? Because we are only interested in one thing, to Glorify the KING. To inspire others to share in that. It is hard, immovable, from the standpoint of those who would fight against it. It cannot be turned aside by those who try to entice us into some path or other, supposedly to help or to save them. No. We refuse tangent patterns, tangent paths. We are interested only in One Path, the Central Way, the straight and narrow Way that leadeth to Life Everlasting. It is in living that we Glorify the KING, unmoved by all the ebb and flow of human emotions, struggling and trying, untouched by all the things that control human beings, and yet in position to extend love and tenderness and care to those who will receive it, understanding to those who will accept it. So it is that we Minister. To what end? To Glorify the KING.
The KING is the centering point of the Kingdom. Anything that does not center in the Kingdom does not belong to the Kingdom. Anything which is supposedly a part of the Kingdom which does not center in the KING is not a part of the Kingdom. Perhaps it should be, but it is not. Anything which does not have its centering, its purpose, in the KING cannot be of the Kingdom, regardless of intention or desire or anything else. The central Law of the Kingdom, the One Law, emphasizes this point, that if we would be a part of the Kingdom we must be centered in the KING. And if we would increase the meaningfulness of the Kingdom we must let our lives be dedicated to the KING. And the way in which our lives may be used to increase the scope of the Kingdom is the business of the KING. If you are a subject of the KING do you tell the KING what you will do or not do? If He is the KING, He is the KING, and there is not any question but to obey the KING. As long as any human will, human self-determination, spoils the pattern of the Kingdom, we are not Glorifying the KING. Trying to glorify ourselves so that we can say to the KING, “Look what I have brought to your Kingdom. You must acknowledge I have truly Glorified you, and look what I have accomplished.” It will not work.
There is only one thing. If we would be a part of the Kingdom, visible or invisible, we must be centered in the KING, and then everything else follows. That which is of the KING finds expression through us to all who will receive. We are not trying to serve. We are serving according to the realm of response, moment by moment, whether it is acknowledged or not, seen or not. No matter. For what purpose? To Glorify the KING, because we are a part of the Kingdom the moment we are truly centered in the KING—and the centering motivation is always to Glorify the KING. You cannot become a part of the Kingdom any other way. Whether it is immediately evident to your own mind or not in what fashion you are a part of the Kingdom is of small concern. If you are centered in the KING and the Glorification of the KING is your true motivation in all things, then you are a good citizen of the Kingdom, you are centered in the KING, you are in the Kingdom, and as you function you find the Kingdom made manifest in the realm of outer form. But you have to be centered in the KING and let that Kingdom have meaning in yourself before its expression through you can give evidence in the outer world that it is so.
There are places all over God's Kingdom for millions of citizens, and it is well that all these places should be filled. But there are places in the KING's Court for those who will let themselves come into that realm of infinite sweetness and beauty where one begins to know the KING, where one begins to know the beauty of the KING’s control, as it extends out to those who are citizens or who are willing to become citizens of the Kingdom. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2019/10/he-who-would-walk-in-kings-court-from.html] It is well that all these millions of places in God's Kingdom should be filled, but it is so sweet to know something of the KING’s Court, know something of what it is to live before the Throne, the Kingdom of God on earth, the Kingdom that is at hand.
