The  Way  of  Life

The  Way  of  Joy  and  Happiness

from  The  Mystery  of  Love  Unveiled  #1

The subject which we now take up for study requires that we be of pure minds, and that we be willing to face the facts of life in a safe and sane manner. God created the human body in His image and likeness. God is a creator—the Creator of all that is. Man, created in the likeness of God, must have within himself the potential powers of his Creator. Creative force is expressive in all three phases of man’s being, and we must not think of it as being limited to the physical body. In this lesson we will study creative force as it relates to the physical body—let us keep in mind, as we study this lesson, that we are studying a great and wonderful force that is not in any way limited to any one plane of life.

God created every part of our bodies, and He pronounced our bodies “good,” therefore we must consider every part as being equally good. One part of the body is not better than another, and we need be ashamed of no part, for God has called our bodies “good.” We are not interested in surrounding any truth with mystery. Our desire is to unveil the mysteries which man has, through ignorance, created. When the mystery is torn away and we are privileged to see the truth as it is we can govern our lives intelligently, and happiness, health and success will result. Every human being has the divine right to be happy, healthy and successful. It is the aim of these lessons to help you receive that which is already yours by divine right.

So many foul ideas concerning sex have been instilled into the minds of human beings that it is difficult to disseminate knowledge on this subject without being misunderstood. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Those who are pure in heart are those who see God in everything, everywhere. The pure in heart are so busy seeing the beauty and glory and wonder of God in all things, that they have no time to waste seeing the evil and the sordid. Therefore let us take up this study in purity of heart and in purity of mind, that we may see the good which God saw in our bodies when He created them. Let us see the good which God sees in our bodies today. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

We will take up the study of those facts which are little known, and give consideration to those things which will help the student attain to the fulness of life. The aim of our study will be to guide the student who truly desires to enjoy the blessings and happiness of a spiritual life.

Love is the highest law known to man, and it is through love that man can attain to the greatest heights. Love relates to every phase of man’s being, and it is God’s will that man should know the laws by which the law of love is governed on every plane of man’s being. Let us analyze love.

Love, as man knows it, first makes itself known on the mental plane. Before man can know love he must become conscious in his mind of that which he may love. After man has become aware in his mind of that which he may love, he experiences a strange feeling of attraction to, or repulsion from, that of which he is aware. Therefore the second step in love is also of the mind. The individual must decide what his reaction shall be toward that which comes within his field of awareness. When the individual has decided what his reaction, that is, his attitude toward and his action toward, shall be he brings his mental decision into expression in his physical body. In this third step the individual does one of two things. He either feels a desire to bring that of which he is aware into close association and union with himself, and he acts accordingly, or else he feels a desire to avoid and keep separate from that of which he is aware, and again he acts accordingly. This repulsive action of love is spoken of in its more extreme forms as hate. A person never dislikes another person or thing unless he has within himself the power to love that person or thing. All persons or things which produce no reaction within the individual are neither loved nor disliked. There are a multitude of such instances in the life of every individual. In all such cases the individual is not aware of any specific relation between himself and the person or thing involved. He simply ignores, without either love or hate, with the result that the person or thing so ignored does not have any specific influence on his life.

There remains now a fourth step in the process of true love, and it is the failure to take this fourth step which causes the misery and sorrow in the world. In fact all of the trouble, sorrow and misery in the world can be traced directly to this one cause, and it is in this that the great importance of this lesson hinges. A person should never begin the expression of love toward any person or thing unless he is certain within himself that he can take this fourth step as it relates to the person or thing loved. If this fourth step is not taken, the partial, or thwarted, expression of love will bring only heartache, sorrow and suffering. The expression of love always brings a rich blessing and abundant joy and happiness when this fourth step is fully taken. Here is the key to all happiness. Here is the key to all success. Here is the key to life, as compared with mere existence.

The fourth step in love is to uplift and carry in conscious realization the person or thing loved into the spiritual expression of the human trinity, so that there is a realization of spiritual union in love sublime.

This spiritual union in love, the fourth, final and most important step in love, is above everything physical and mental. This this is the Seventh Mystery of the Seventh Plane. Those who have experienced true and complete love will know what is here meant. Those who have never completed love in the spiritual will not yet understand, though the way is hereby opened up to them so that they also may enter in.

This shows why it is that the sex union between man and woman, whether in or out of the marriage tie, that is indulged in for only physical and mental pleasure is harmful and will bring sad results. It is only when such union is culminated in the spiritual that it is the holy expression of pure love. To say that the sex union should only be made for purposes of reproduction is to say that mankind is functioning on the animal planes with brute beasts who know nothing of the spiritual. Sex, like all other things which God created, is good. It is the wrong use of sex that brings sorrow and suffering. Man can misuse all the good things to which he has access, and by so doing man has created all the evil that is in the world. He who controls sex desire has access to a wonderful power by which much good may be made manifest. He who is controlled by sex desire is using a terrible power which is making much evil manifest. Self-control must be attained if one would know joy. Many people imagine that the development of self-control in regard to sex will rob them of much pleasure. This erroneous idea is the cause of much misery, and only misery can come from it. If such people only realized the joy and supreme bliss which is known by those who know and use the law of love, they would resolve before God to prove themselves worthy of true joy. The way of life is the way of joy and happiness. Let us enter therein today.

In self-control is the happy solution to all sex problems. Through the practice of self-control the joy of the sex union may be increased a thousandfold, for thereby the individual becomes the master of his body. Through mastery of the body and all of its functions as related to sex, it is possible to gain that full satisfaction which comes with completed love union in the physical. By this means it is possible for those who are in certain states of consciousness to make true spiritual development. There comes a time when the love union of the physical plane can be transcended, that the individual may experience still greater joys through the completion of the love union in the spiritual plane without the medium of the body. The perfect joy and bliss of such union cannot be described in words, and only those who have attained to it can understand it. The vast majority of people have not yet attained to that plane of expression, and until they do it is necessary that they express through the medium of the body.

The increased attention which is being given to matters of sex throughout the world today is the natural outworking of this law. There are those who are interpreting this new freedom of expression in terms of licentiousness for the gratification of physical passion, without taking the final step in the expression of complete love, and all such will have to suffer the penalty which they bring upon themselves by their own acts. Nevertheless this increased attention to matters of sex is a good sign, for the leaven is working, and those who truly seek the Way in all earnestness will find the solution to their problems. In all advances into higher planes of expression there are those who wilfully or ignorantly become confused on the issue, and they are those who are sacrificed on the stinking altar of mankind’s greed and selfishness. It is not necessary that anyone be so sacrificed. It is your privilege to see and know the way, and to avoid, if you will, the pitfalls into which many are falling. Sex is not to be condemned. Neither is the expression of sex wrong in itself. But it is the wrong use of sex that brings suffering and sorrow.

When a person has not yet attained to the perfect joy of the complete fruition of love in spiritual expression a certain amount of controlled sex expression in the physical body is necessary. He who fights against this great truth, so that he represses his desires in an unnatural way, will find that such repression will bring sad results. All people should avoid the curse of repression. Repressed sex desires are the cause of many disturbances. Such repression forces the life energies to take unnatural avenues of expression, such as cruelty, malicious gossiping, intolerance, crabbedness, selfishness, morbidness of some kinds, quick temper—and various kinds of self-righteous attitudes in which the individual is always looking for something to condemn in other people. Love, full, pure, true love, is the only thing in heaven or earth that can sanctify the sex union. True love, in all of its four steps, is the only way in which God joins people together.
