The Responsibility Of The Awakened

Welcome, everyone, to this time of our Service. Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit an exhibition of fourteen master painters’ paintings of recent Korean history at the Jeju Stone Park here on Jeju Island. The one who introduced the paintings to me said that the price of each painting is more than one hundred thousand dollars. The characteristics of each painting is different, so I wondered what the common factor of these paintings could be. What is the common factor of these famous historical paintings? This topic was one of the things I have thought of for many years.
What are the factors for such famous paintings recorded in history? I found the answer to this question. It might be said that the factor is to find the specific new historical aesthetic perspective. That might be the factor for the famous painters, not only the painters, but all the artists.
All the artists find a new perspective for things, for history, for everything, and put the new perspective into their objects of art. Some were not that famous in the days of their own lifetime because they went too far ahead and were not recognized during their lifetime, but later became famous. The most famous example of this is Van Gogh. I’m mentioning painters, for example, but in human history there are so many such people who found new perspective so that based on their new perspective the human civilization has been developed. Because of such people—new inventors, new visionaries—humankind has developed so far and we are enjoying abundance in the material world.
Among those who found such a great perspective or new invention, there were some who realized that such a new finding might not be able to be done by their own ability alone. They realized that there might be some support or help from another dimension. There were some who may have thought that if they were to try to utilize such a new development or new discovery for themselves only, then heaven might not support them.

There are such people who found their lives influenced by some other dimension. That I might get support or help from the other dimension—to recognize that there might even be another dimension, is a very important factor of awakening, the awakening in which I am included, or that I am not separate from that other, invisible dimension. In fact, the maturing of humankind may be this act of awakening to this other dimension. Confucius, the Chinese philosopher from two thousand six hundred years ago explained this process of maturing very well in The Analects. Some of us know these contents very well. There are many versions of the English translation of The Analects. I will introduce one translation: “The Master said at fifteen I set my heart on learning. At thirty I took my stand. At forty I came to be free from doubts. At fifty I understood the decree of heaven. At sixty my ear was attuned. At seventy I followed my heart’s desire without overstepping the line.”
There is a very clear transformation of the dimensions at the age of fifty. “At fifty I understood the decree of heaven.” He said that he understood the decree of heaven. Before that he talked about the worldly dimension—that is “I set my heart on learning and took my stand. At forty I became free from doubt.” These are of the worldly dimension, but at fifty, “I understood the decree of heaven.” This means that he moved to the heavenly dimension. And as he moved to the heavenly dimension, at sixty his ear was the obedient organ for the reception of Truth. Ear was obedient; attuned means it was not shaken by any external situation. In other words, he did not move, was not moved by any cause except by the decree of heaven. Only the heavenly decree moved him. And at seventy he followed his heart’s desire without overstepping the line. This means he was able to follow his heart’s desire without transgressing; he became one with the heavenly will—a Heavenly Being living on the Earth.
There are such people written of in the Bible. In the Bible, especially in the King James version, there is mention of “peculiar people”. This “peculiar” means “different from the ordinary” or “a little odd”. It is translated in Korean as a people belonging to God, and in another translation in English, except the King James version, the words are translated as “a people for God’s own possession”. These peculiar people are the people written of in The Analects of Confucius—a people who have no doubt, and know the decrees of heaven, and whose ears have become the obedient organ for the reception of Truth, and those who follow what their heart’s desired without transgressing. That’s right.
A people belonging to God is a peculiar people from the others’ eyes.
I tried to find an explanation from The Analects of Confucius, but most of the explanations suggest that this describes Confucius, not us. They say that for common people it might not be easy to have no doubt, or to know the decrees of heaven, and to have an obedient ear for the reception of Truth. These characteristics might lead one in the direction of a good life, but achieving the goal might not be easy for common people. How can you say that as you get older, you mature? How can we say this? So, this describes these people as “peculiar”. Not ordinary, but “peculiar”.
But in a sense, we are such peculiar people. We are the people belonging to God. These “peculiar people” are in the world but not of the world. They are in a different dimension than the world. This is how they are peculiar. They are not living on bread only, but they are living on the Word. They eat the Word all of the time. They are with the Word of Truth all of the time. And they provide the words of Truth through their living. They can see what is not seen and they can hear what is not heard. They see through the eyes of God and they hear through the ears of God. Because of their presence, God can see and God can hear. They can recognize what is behind what is ordinarily perceived because they perceive through God’s heart.
A good example of this was when David met Goliath in the Biblical story. He perceived that God is within and he knew that the power of God can be carried out through him. When the others were trembling in fear, he could perceive something else. In one of his Services Uranda said that even though we live in the dimension of time, we are also living in the dimension of timelessness. We plant the seed of eternity—of timelessness—in the moment of the time dimension. We are living in the material dimension, but we are living in the dimension beyond this material world.
There are those who are in the world but who are not of the world. In our Korean history there are such people, for example Masters Jae Woo Choi and Si Hyoung Choi of Dong Hak. They lived at a difficult time at the end of the Joseon Dynasty, about one hundred and fifty years ago in Korea. But in that difficult situation they could see a new world was coming.
We are living in the world but we are also living in the world of a different dimension, a different vibration. We can perceive that different vibration and we radiate that vibration in that world of chaos.
Whatever situation arises, that situation can be included in the creative process by the angels; or if there are no angels in that situation it can appear as the playground of Satan. All situations are just situations, but the future of a situation has two possible outcomes. If that situation can be led by angels, it can turn out to have a creative result. But if there are no angels to lead the situation, it can turn out to be hell.
And all of that is dependent on who is there in that situation: angels or Satan. Satan has no body, but it means the lowest vibration existing. And when mankind gave life to Satan, Satan began playing in the worldly dimension. The true place of human beings is between Heaven and Earth—the X (motioning with his arms.) The true place of human beings is between Heaven and Earth so that they become the channels for the spirit of Heaven to come to the Earth. In that meeting point we can hear Heaven’s Message and when we deliver the Message to the Earth, a new creation can start.
So, in whatever situation the eventual revelation is Love and Life.
Those “peculiar people” know who they are. Because they know who they are, they are free. In fact, most of the people in the world do not know who they are. They live in the world of unreality but they believe in that unreality as if it were reality. Uranda said that such people live under hypnosis but the hypnotized people do not know that they are hypnotized, so they follow what the hypnotist orders them to do. In the world there are so many hypnotists—television, journalism, advertisement, a large part of education, and assertions by most politicians—all these kinds of things are the aspects of the hypnotists’ words or message.
When there are those who know themselves, even though there are so many hypnotists in the world, the boat of humankind can find the right direction. Those who know themselves truly—the body of those awakened ones can be said to be the rudder of the boat of humanity. The rudder finds direction for the large vessel. That rudder moves at the order of the captain who is sitting in the cockpit of the vessel. But even though there is someone in the cockpit, if there is no strong rudder that can endure the great pressure of the world, the vessel cannot find the right direction. Until now human history shows that it could not find the right direction. It is because there has been no rightful rudder in the vessel of humanity. So, our role is as a body of awakened ones who are possessed by God. It’s very important. Through our presence this vessel of humanity can be equipped with the rightful rudder and there would be hope for this vessel.
I saw a very precious passage of Chris Foster’s on Facebook some days ago. I’d like to share a little of this. Chris Foster is the author of Martin Exeter’s biography, One Heart, One Way. He describes the end of Martin’s life very beautifully. He said that Martin laid down his instrument which had made it possible for him to make music on Earth. Very beautiful! This book was published in 1989. As I read it long ago when this book was first published, I was so impressed, especially by this ending part.
Chris Foster said, in Facebook, “I’ve been thinking how grateful I am for my physical body. It’s getting on a bit, mind you. In fact, it will be 89 in a few days, but how faithful it has been and still is. How resilient this body of mine has been and still is. How persistent it has been and still is. Determined to be the most effective beacon possible whereby my spirit might find form and expression in this world. Sometimes I think of my body as a ship, a beautiful ship, a magnificent ship, a ship crafted by a master craftsman that makes it possible for me to visit various lands, to discover whatever measure the truth of myself and the truth of others and to open my heart in whatever measure to the wonder and compassion of the love that is the source of all things.” As I read the responses for this, I was so pleased. Achel Bedi responded. Achel Bedi had been to Korea with John Gray many times. Rupert Maskell, Louise Broomberg, Ruth French responded. There are many beautiful responses. In the morning I saw a video collection of the Gawai Hotel in Zimbabwe. It contained a mystical story.
When we really know ourselves, each of us is very important. We are not just individuals, but we are part of that very important body. And what I think and what I say, how I act, influences the body directly all of the time. If we think of ourselves as individuals we can say or act as we like, but we are not such individuals. We are very important members of a body which influences the direction of humankind. And we influence that body and, consequently, that direction through our individual thought, expression and action. Our individual thoughts, expressions and actions influence the direction of humankind all of the time. We are connected as One. We are connected all together as one big vessel—not just human beings, mind you, but all of nature; we are all connected. I propose that in order to truly be individuals, we must be responsible for every thought word and action. We should be responsible for that. Thank you for our time together.
