The Master Role — The Servant Role
Angelic Friendship

In our relatedness we handle our
responsibilities in different ways. And here you may begin to see something of
a more specific nature emerging. You have a specific point to fill. I have a specific
point to fill. My point is a constant in relationship to all of you.
This provides for continuity and
stability, and maintains everything in its proper perspective. You each have
your own individual points, which are all different. Those differences are
included in whatever the design is that is emerging by reason of you as a
group, as a body. It is not as though everybody was going to be the same. Every
part of the emerging body is different, is specific in its function and in
fulfilling the requirements for which it is responsible in the body. And that
is true of each one.
Now our concern is to let this
substance be generated on the basis of what one might call friendship, the
friendship which emerges when the human consciousness is the obedient servant.
Then the angel is on hand by reason of that state of consciousness, and the
angels are friends. We don’t need to say, “Well, I’m going to try to be friends
with you.” That would imply that I think it’s going to be quite a job! No, the
angels are already friends. We discover this, and we discover how our
friendship together may allow us to participate in the collective creative
cycles which are to emerge in the days to come.
One of the principle factors in
this field is that I might put in an appearance before you so that you become
better acquainted with your friend—and
others will put in an appearance before you for the same purpose—that we
may all experience the reality of angelic friendship. And friends love each
other, friends care for each other, friends assist each other. And it is in all
this that the substance is generated.
No substance can be generated if
we remain little isolated cells, without any proper relatedness, without any
association: “I’ll take care of my thing if you take care of yours.” No. We
emerge into the heavenly level, where angelic friendship may be experienced.
And contained in that friendship are all these other factors of love, and care,
and so on. And it is the actual experience of this in our living that generates
the substance, the substance which connects us with the Lord. And being
connected with the Lord, we then have the first ingredient by which there may
be creative achievement beyond us.
Of course, in the experience of
friendship known in human consciousness there is a transformation occurring in
human consciousness. What we knew before is not what we know now. And it keeps
changing; the experience of friendship expands. We delight to be together, we
delight to be in each other’s company. We don’t try to make anything be so, we
don’t try to live in someone else’s pocket. We let there be space—angels all
need space to fill with their angelic substance—we don’t wish to restrict each
other in any way but to allow a freedom and an easy movement which is natural between
friends. And we don’t have to keep trying to prove that we are somebody’s
friend. We simply are when we are angels, and we do the things that are natural
in this configuration of friendship.
We begin to find a great
flexibility in this regard. And we don’t know what is going to emerge. We are
delightedly anticipating something new anyway, and we are quite willing to let
it emerge. But we maintain the absolute control in what is happening as angels,
because the human consciousness through which we are functioning is obedient,
it is completely obedient to the tone which we offer into it. It cannot very
well be obedient to a tone if we don’t offer it into it. Now, of course, we
have assistance in this; I am giving you assistance now, in offering the tone into
your human consciousness. And we offer it directly into our own consciousness,
and we offer it into the consciousness of others. We assume—we should
assume—that there is an obedient servant on hand, and it is going to be willing
to move with the spirit which we provide.
And so we move together as
friends. First we become better acquainted, and then we move together as
friends. The angel comes forth into the human consciousness so that we are
together on earth as angels, and the design takes form. Because of the design
the creative achievement is made possible. We are to discover all this during
this period together. This is a session of angels, an assembly of angels. It is
this if it is meaningful and if we are to accomplish anything while we are together.
I am sure that none of you came here with the idea that we wouldn’t accomplish
something. We are here to do it, so let’s do it.
There are no dishonorable roles
when we are functioning correctly. And in certain aspects, as angels we are
servants as well. There is nothing dishonorable about it. We serve the Lord,
don’t we? That makes us servants. Well, we delight in that. And we find that
delighting in that, we are filled with the spirit of the Lord and we are His
friends. And there is a certain right pattern of friendship between master and
servant, which is different between those who are functioning at the same
level. There is friendship at that level. There is friendship at every level.
Why not allow everyone to be and reveal what is natural, without trying to
classify one role as being more honorable than another role? That’s not true.
As angels we can play any role. In
the external sense we can play any role at all and delight to do it, love to do
it. And if it happens to be a servant role for the moment, well we love to do
that. If it is the master role, we love to do that. Whatever it is, we love to
do it. And it is this experience of love in doing what we are here to do that
generates the substance. If we are sort of backing off all the time from the
things that we should be doing, then we don’t generate any substance. Nothing
happens. So let us move easily together as angels.
