LORD of Hosts

LORD  of  Hosts

Martin Cecil   July 6, 1975

The tabernacle of God is with men. Holy, holy, holy, Lord of hosts. When the cells of your individual body are holy, when the organs and parts are holy, when your expression of life is holy, when all the levels of your consciousness are holy, the Lord of hosts is present in His holy place. If there is no holy place He cannot be present insofar as the experience of the individual is concerned. The hosts are what you are in the external sense: cells, organs, systems. The hosts are also present insofar as mankind is concerned: individual human beings, nations, operating systems, a quality and expression of life in the overall sense. Here are the hosts, but where is the Lord? Here is the tabernacle, but where are the Priesthood?

Mankind composes the hosts which make potentially possible the presence of the Lord. If we see this, then it is evident that just as there is a sense of self in the individual, there is also a sense of self insofar as mankind is concerned—not only a sense of self but the reality of a self, a self rightly identified by the words I am. That self, insofar as mankind is concerned, has been referred to as the LORD of Lords and KING of Kings. A self insofar as the individual is concerned may be referred to as a Lord, over whom He is LORD. This does not exclude the female aspect of the population, but there are certain limitations with respect to words. When we are aware of the spirit of the words, and we begin to understand the meaning of the words, then the resentful attitudes of human beings, whether male or female, pass away. It is only because human beings do not know, that they become involved in contentious attitudes of resentment. If we see such things proliferating on earth we have the clear evidence of ignorance. Human beings in these days think of themselves as being highly educated and, therefore, presumably knowledgeable or wise, but all the evidence points to abysmal ignorance.

Holy, holy, holy. When the body is holy, and the mind is holy, and the expression of life is holy, there is a holy place on earth. The tabernacle of God is then with men and the Lord of hosts is known to be present.

The LORD of Lords, the true self of mankind, was present on earth in the individual body of Jesus. The statement I have just made is true but it certainly doesn’t mean that I am propagating what has come to be called Christianity. The LORD of Lords was present on earth in physical form and that physical form was called Jesus. This physical form, in the individual sense, was not His true body; it was a substitute body, for His true body includes the whole of mankind.

Within the body of mankind there is rightly another body, which could be referred to as the body of the High Priest. This body is composed of many individuals. Included in it are groups of individuals, taking form according to the design of that body, and there is the quality of an expression of life natural to the High Priest. Again, we use words which tend to have preestablished patterns of concept in human minds, but what I am talking about is not preestablished in any human mind. If it is translated according to the concepts that may now be held, that will not be the truth. The truth is a matter of living experience, not of the theoretical ideas of the mind. The mind is incapable of encompassing the truth; the truth encompasses the mind. It would be extreme arrogance on the part of a human mind to claim that it could encompass the truth, for the human mind itself is one small evidence of the truth. There would be no human mind if it were not for the truth; so how ridiculous to try to bend the truth to the ideas of the mind. Immediately the attempt is made, the mind proceeds to exclude itself from the experience of the truth. The more education there has been in the human sense, with the idea of developing the mind as a means of getting hold of the truth, the more the mind has become separated from the truth, the more it has become involved in lies. The human mind is the epitome of “the liar,” and that was another name for the devil.

If we do have a sensing that mankind is rightly included in the hosts of the Lord, then we behold a form, a body, which has the capacity to reveal the reality summarized by the word Lord; in this instance we are thinking of the LORD of Lords. When He was on earth in His individual body He referred to One whom He spoke of as His Father. We have a dawning consciousness of that reality relating to what is back of the whole cosmic creation. We have used the symbol of the capital letter X to convey an understanding of how it is that what is back of and above all things, in the spiritual sense, is drawn to a point of focus where the two lines of the X cross. The Father is above but the Father comes to focus in the Son.

The Son is at the point, the crossover point, between what is above in the spiritual sense and what is below in the material sense. There is a very specific crossover point for this aspect of the cosmic creation with which we are immediately related, and that crossover point is the point of identity of the body of mankind. That point of identity we can refer to as the LORD of Lords but we don’t know what that means simply by using those words. We only know what it means to the extent that we ourselves, as individuals, find our own identity at the crossover point in the individual sense. Then we discover that we are one with that greater crossover point relating to the whole body of mankind: I Am That I Am.

This seems always rather mysterious to the human mind, because the human mind has gotten itself into a state where the principal sensation is one of isolation, aloneness. It is because of this, of course, that human beings, identified with their minds, always are necessarily on the defensive. They sense the smallness of themselves which could, consequently, so easily be swept away. This is the smallness of the human mind in its state of isolation. The mind of man was not created to be isolated. The final isolation, of course, is called death, when there is isolation from everything, and consequently there is nothing.

The LORD of Lords incarnated on earth in the individual personal body that was called Jesus. Fundamentally, it was the only way that He could incarnate. Certainly, the body of mankind was not willing that He should, and no particular grouping in the body of mankind was willing that He should. The only possibility was on the basis of an individual body, and so this was the way it was worked out. To all intents and purposes at that time His individual body was the only point on earth that was willing to let Him incarnate. Even those whom He called to follow Him did not exhibit any particular willingness to allow an expansion, differentiation, of what remained throughout the period of His presence on earth; merely His own individual, personal body. No one on the face of the earth accepted the challenge which He brought. Even those who were closest to Him scarcely recognized what it was. “How can we know where you are going, or what the way is?” “Shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.” There was nobody to share, and He remained alone. When the picture is really seen, what a sad, sad thing it is—not because of the wicked rulers of the Jews or the Roman government, or whatever, but because of the self-centered ignorance of human beings everywhere. And has the picture really changed any?

We are beginning to sense a change in our own experience, but we would have to admit that this change which is coming, as we have known it thus far, has not been brought to pass by any endeavor or direction provided by the human mind. If anything has happened in our experience it has happened in spite of our minds and not because of them. It happens to the extent that we are willing to acknowledge ignorance. Now, of course, many people are willing to acknowledge a certain amount of ignorance in a more or less general sense, but when it comes down to specifics a person is inclined to assume a very defensive attitude if the awareness of ignorance actually begins to come to point in oneself. There are certain areas where people are more or less willing to say that they don’t know, but there are some areas where they think they know. If the suggestion is made that even in those areas they don’t really know, then the reaction rises up: “Who are you to say such things? You may not know, but I know!” Really? Do our individual lives portray, in no uncertain terms, the depths of our true knowing? I doubt it! I think the lives of human beings everywhere, even our own, portray mainly ignorance.

The acknowledgment of ignorance may be a first step in repentance, and let us remember that there is a vast difference between confession and repentance. Human beings have been very much engaged, all down through the ages, in confessing their sins but they never repented. They may have received absolution at the hands of another unrepentant human being but never knew what it would be to repent. Confession has been used as a substitute for repentance, and a very poor substitute at that.

We can gaze around us and we can pinpoint here and there—almost everywhere—misbehaving people. We can see the terrible attitudes that people have, the terrible things that they do. We can even name names; and we can consequently clearly recognize how everyone needs to repent. Well, there may be that need, all right, but how is it ever going to happen. Having sated ourselves with the judgment of the world around us, let us be willing to become sick of that, so that we may finally come to the place where repentance is possible; and that is exactly where one is oneself, because any person is only capable of repenting for himself. Nobody can repent for somebody else. Accepting the responsibility of repentance for oneself, we may see the requirement in relationship to the hosts of our own individual bodies and minds and expressions of living. Regardless of the horrors of other people’s function, we finally come to the point of acknowledging our own personal responsibility. Only when this is done can any real change possibly occur.

If the change begins to occur in one person, it at the same time is beginning to occur in the whole of mankind. Because of the concepts of the human mind, this matter of starting with one person looks as though it could lead nowhere. Why? Well, because of the vast numbers of one persons. “What can one person do?” That’s one of the most well-worn excuses on earth. One person can do what needs to be done, and it is only as one person does it that what needs to be done is done. This does not deny the fact that there is more than one person on earth; it does not deny the fact of mankind, for instance; but it does initiate a starting point for what needs to be done.

Now, human beings have been so aware of their own littleness, of their own pettiness, of their own meaninglessness, that it seems impossible to conceive that one might be personally responsible for the world. “Oh, no, not me! I’m a very humble person.” Oh, no, you’re not, if you take that attitude; you’re a very arrogant person, because there is a rejection of the Lord, a rejection of the truth of yourself. So, there is always only one starting point for every person on the face of the earth, namely him- or herself. But how much easier it is to sit in the seat of the scorner and the accuser and see those miserable characters populating the world who have produced the mess that is all around us. That is dishonesty! There are very few honest people on earth who will relinquish the seat of the accuser and the scorner. Am I accusing human beings and scorning them by saying this? Only if I look to others to take responsibility without taking it myself. We’re inclined to do that, aren’t we?

How long it seems to take for human beings to come back to the only starting point, where one assumes the responsibility, the total responsibility, oneself. In the assumption of that responsibility is the power by which others may be brought to assume their responsibility too; but we never see the assumption of responsibility on the part of others without seeing the assumption of responsibility on our own part first. When there are those, as there indeed begin to be on earth, who move toward that crossover point where absolute responsibility is taken, the hosts composing the body of the High Priest within the body of mankind begin to become the hosts of the Lord, because, indeed, what needs to be done is done by reason of this collective body. But there is no collective body until the individuals who compose it have themselves come to the crossover point and assumed for themselves the absolute responsibility.

At that point the individual can rightly say, as did the High Priest in His own individual body, “No man cometh unto the Father, but by me,” by me because I have taken the responsibility, not in arrogance, not on the basis of the human mind’s idea, but because there has been repentance in that regard and the truth is accepted; the real quality of the living truth has been accepted and is then in expression through the hosts of the physical body, through the hosts of all levels of consciousness, through the hosts of that capacity by which the creative expression of the truth pours forth in living. When there are those who know this, then the body of the High Priest takes form and the identity of the High Priest is shared by His hosts. It is not a separate identity. It is only the self-centered human mind that tries to preserve itself as a separate identity, to puff itself up with its own self-importance. On that basis there is no importance; it is useless. But as one of those who compose the hosts of heaven, there is the consciousness of meaning, the consciousness of purpose, the consciousness of being, and we do not have to go anywhere to find it. It is present exactly where we are in any given moment, and when we learn what it means to repent we discover the truth of that.

The High Priest must be present on earth, incarnate on earth, within the body of mankind, if the body of mankind is to come again to provide the facility for the creative action of the Son of God on earth. The One who is the true self of mankind said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” the crossover point for mankind, the point of identity for mankind, the point of identity to be shared by all the hosts composing mankind. Now, from the standpoint of the mental idea, that is simply a theory. It only becomes a living reality to the extent that there are those who take individual, personal responsibility to stand at the crossover point in themselves so that there is nothing above other than what comes down from God out of heaven, nothing higher in the individual’s experience than that; and by higher I am referring to what governs or controls, because whatever governs and controls in one’s own experience one has placed at a higher point than one is oneself.

What will be placed at the higher point? What are we willing to allow to be there? Most people allow some pretty coarse, low things to be at the higher point, so that they are pushed around by all kinds of rubbish, and human behavior reflects it. If there is selfishness, self-centeredness, greed, fear, all these things, motivating a person, then that person has chosen to put those low, coarse things at the high point in his own existence, and he is rightly called an idolater; he is worshiping false gods. He may not like his gods very much but he worships them just the same. There is no need to. We can repent, and repentance simply means you stop doing it, that’s all; one chooses to stop doing it. Human beings, when it’s convenient to them, are usually very quick to say they have a right of free choice: “Nobody’s going to tell me what to do!” No? For most people, everybody and everything is telling them what to do, and they’re doing it. Puppets! How people like to delude themselves.

But there is what is rightly above us: the true quality of the character of God which makes it possible for us to experience what it means to be a son or a daughter of God. That is our inheritance. Our inheritance rightly stems from our true, heavenly parenthood, and when we are willing to admit it, acknowledge it, agree with it, then it happens; but as long as we are looking around to be troubled and disturbed and judgmental of all the things that are going on in the world, we have false gods and we die in our sins. The choice is an individual one, but when the right choice is made individually, then there emerge the hosts which compose initially the body of the High Priest; for the body of the High Priest must be present, the High Priest incarnate, if there is to be the essential point of orientation for the whole body of mankind. Mankind as a whole is not going to become correctly oriented spontaneously. The correct orientation comes with absolute certainty when there are those individuals who take responsibility. Then the High Priest incarnatesthe point of orientation is present for the body of mankind, and those who compose mankind make their choice. Each one must be allowed to make his or her choice; no one can be forced to make the right choice. The choice is meaningless unless one makes it for oneself. It is impossible to ride into the kingdom of heaven on somebody else’s coattails—it doesn’t work. Each individual must say, “I take absolute responsibility for my world,” and the only way that that can be done is to accept what is coming to point from above. When one accepts that absolutely, in fact keeping the first great commandment absolutely, one has absolute responsibility for all that comes to point out of the world in oneself.

So, the body of the High Priest takes form, and those who compose that body are the hosts of heaven; they share the character, the quality, of life that is natural to the High Priest. There is no distinction; it’s all one thing, even though it is differentiated through many people. It is not differentiated to be something else; it’s simply differentiated to be an expansion of what is present in essence at the true point of identity in the LORD of Lords. It’s all there, and what a delight it is to come again to that crossover point and to share that quality of character which is the natural expression of the One who gives us identity.

O LORD of Lords and KING of Kings, no one comes to the true experience of him- or herself but by Thee. Relinquishing the old position of the scorner and the accuser, we accept responsibility in Thy name. “Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name,” are Thy words ... “it shall be done of my Father which is in heaven.” Naturally so, for what is above comes down and crosses over through the point which connects heaven and earth. Thy will is done in earth as it is in heaven. So we would let it be, because we choose to let it be, in recognition of Thy choice as it applies to us individually, in the Christ. Aum-en.

Jan Romaner — Martin, may I and all rise up to accept the beauty and the responsibility in standing with you. Might I bow before this throne as a symbol of our open and yielded hearts in love for Thee. And may we all stand at the bottom of the vastness of the heaven above and at the top of the point that stands over the world for which we have control, and may we always continue to hear Thy word in our hearts and act accordingly. Thank you.

Martin Cecil — Thank you, Jan. Let the Word indeed be made flesh! That’s the only way it has meaning. It is because the Word which was spoken by the LORD of Lords on earth has not been made flesh by human beings that it has remained only with potential meaning and the world itself is unchanged. But changes come as the Word is made flesh in human experience. It is made flesh first in one person, always in one person. The question arises as to who that one person is. It is always the person who says “I.”

Attunement in the Chain Pattern of Being

Attunement  in  the  Chain  Pattern  of  Being

from  Expanded Differentiation of Being

Uranda   July 9, 1954  Class

The pattern of expanded differentiation in relationship to Being and the expression of Being: If we can even dimly conceive the centering of the Cosmos as the Central SUN of Suns, the basic point around which all Being revolves, and recognize the reality of the Central Reality of God, we can realize that in the sense of vibratory components, which we might more easily imagine in the sense of weight, that central point must equal the vibratory components of the whole Cosmos. We can begin to realize that whatever there is in the Cosmos—including all the universes of which we are aware, constellations, etc—is an expanded differentiation of that which is contained at the central point. And insofar as the vibrational components are concerned, the weight factor must balance in relationship to that central point of Being—which is beyond the immediate comprehension of man—and that which we know, as well as that which we do not know, with respect to the Cosmos as a whole. This means then that, beginning at the central point, we have in essence all things that are, and it is impossible for even God to create something in the body of the Cosmos, or in this solar system or in some other solar system, that is not first established in the vibrational pattern of Being at the Center of Being. And the manifestation of the solar system, or a planet in the solar system, or that which is created upon the planets, as we have ours here, must be an expanded differentiation of that which is already established in this central factor of Being, and it is brought into enlarged or magnified manifestation here.

We think of tiny things as being less than we are, and yet we have recognized in our study of the human body that if it were compressed to a point of absolute solid, you could hardly see it, with the naked eye, as a speck on the head of a pin. The physical body through which you express is mostly space. So it is easy for you to begin to realize that you as a human being are in fact an expanded differentiation of Being, and the centralized factor out of which you are made manifest in a direct sense we speak of as the Lord within, or the Father within, or the God Being. But that God Being is, as it were, a tiny speck in the Body of God, which in turn is a differentiated expanded manifestation on a higher level of that which is contained in the centering of Being at the Central SUN of Suns.

Now this that is the centering of Being is exceedingly great and exceedingly vast, exceedingly wonderful, but it is the concentration of all real heaviness, and of the seed factors of all Beings and all things. The differentiation which originates there must expand outward through the universe into the solar system, through the solar system into the planets, and so come into manifestation in relationship to the created things which appear upon the face of the planets. Once we begin to have even a vague vision of this basic pattern of Being, we begin to see that men, mankind, men and women, were originally created to make possible an expanded differentiation in manifestation at this level of God—not that man was supposed to be something apart from God, but that man should be the magnifying glass, as it were, by which God might be seen in expanded differentiated manifestation on a basis that would be meaningful to this realm of creation.

That which expands out from us, expresses through us, always originates at the point from which the expression of Being radiates, and any given expression of Being has a specific potential which establishes in the ultimate sense its periphery of manifestation. Within the scope of this periphery we have that which is the manifest form and expression through form of this particularized point of Being. This applies to you as a human being as much as it applies to God at any level wherein God is revealed or made manifest, clear back to the centering of the Cosmos.

Now your mind may suggest to you that this sounds deep and difficult, but it is not. Do not prejudice yourself against it. It is simple, for if we have a point which has within it in concentrated form that which cannot be seen readily with a particular form of vision, and we cause that given point to expand outward in all directions within the scope of a circle, and this circle is to represent the periphery of influence in relationship to the point of Being at the center, everything that is contained within the circle outside of the point is in minute form contained within the point itself. So in order to make the point meaningful at a level other than that which is natural to the point itself, we must have a differentiated expansion of Being and form extending outward, so that the point is, in effect, magnified and given a larger pattern of Being, form, and expression or right activity. This enlarged pattern is the realm of your environment, or the sphere of your influence, and you, at the point, are supposed to be the magnifying glass by which the centering of Deity in you is caused to be seen in the realm of your Being, the range of your influence. So you, as a human being, must be the expanded differentiation in the enlarged field by which God is seen, known, revealed and allowed to act on a basis of the laws and principles and will, or intelligent determinations, which originate at the point within you. For you, made in the image and likeness of God, are in fact an expanded differentiation of that which centers your Being, in the sense of your own God Being.

Your God Being is an extension of another centering, so that your God Being is in actual fact an expanded differentiation, in the sense of Being and expression, of that which is contained at the center around which your God Being revolves. That centering of Being, as far as we are concerned in this Whole Holy World, is the One who was made manifest as Jesus Christ, the LORD of Lords and KING of Kings. So we see Him as the centering of Being which must be allowed expanded differentiation within the scope of His realm if He is to have meaning in His realm. He does have this expanded differentiation, with consequent meaning, in what we call heaven, or the invisible realm. There the extension on the basis of the expanded differentiation has not been spoiled, it has not been made chaotic, it has not been distorted, and consequently is beautiful, the manifestation of true Being at a level which cannot be seen with physical perception, visually speaking.

So this, then, that is of the point of Being with respect to the whole has natural expanded differentiation through the God Being. But there is a centering of Being in you that belongs to God Being, which we speak of as your God Being, or your Father within, or your Lord within, whatever term might be most pleasing. And while this point is an expanded differentiation of the LORD of Lords and KING of Kings, and everything that is in this point which is your own God Being is contained in essence in the seed sense in the LORD of Lords and KING of Kings, you as a human being, if you are to be true to God and true to your own purpose in life, must be an expanded differentiation of your own God Being, an extension of your own God Being in magnified form and function, so magnified that it may be seen and known and perceived, understood, right here on earth.

Now that is the Chain Pattern extending from the Center of Being in the Cosmos to you and through you, and if we do not violate that Chain Pattern, we are in attunement with God. If we do violate that pattern in this sphere between the human form and the God Being, we are not, to that degree at least, in attunement with God, and that which finds differentiated expanded expression through us, through words, deeds, attitudes, through living, is not of God. But if we have not violated this Chain Principle in our relationship with God, we are in attunement with God, the spirit of God is working through us, and the expanded differentiation of the God Being is revealed in the living as it expresses through the human form or human being which you are. This should make it very easy for you to understand—very simple, very wonderful, as you begin to comprehend it. So the principle of the expanded expression of Being through man is actually a revelation of Deity in practical function on earth.

This brings us to the point where we may consider with a higher degree of understanding and vision the Principle of Reciprocity, because that which makes you what you are must come through you into manifestation not for you but as an expanded differentiation of God released on earth to others, released on earth for those whose lives you may touch. The expression of your Being cannot be added to you from some external source, it cannot be plastered onto you, it cannot be grafted onto you, it cannot be sewed onto you by any surgical method; it cannot be added to you externally by any means or effort whatsoever. It must be your own differentiated expansion of Being which is allowed to take form in manifestation through you. That means that dependence upon external sources for the Reality of Being always defeats the human being, and no matter what he may plaster on himself he only produces a false front, which will crack, crumble and pass away. It cannot do anything else. So there will be, always, others who provide the means by which that which is expressing through you may have more meaning external to you. But if the means by which that which expresses through you may be given meaning is there and you fail to express, by reason of a lack of attunement in a Chain Pattern in Being, then, although the equipment is at hand, there is no expression through you in relationship to it and you do not have meaning, and you have a sense of futility and of failure, insecurity. Then the human mind tries to reach out somewhere, somehow, and get something from somebody which will give a sense of security. People reach out and try to get it from their family, or members of the family, or friends, or someone.

Now I cannot by any means whatsoever add anything to you externally. I can provide something which makes it possible for the expression of your own differentiated aspect of Being to have meaning here and now, so that under the influence which I provide, you begin to have a sense of meaningfulness, and the sense of futility and failure begins to pass away. You begin to abide gradually in a sense of security, because you have begun to find that I am not adding something to you outside, I am not trying to plaster anything on you, or sew on an appendage in some fashion. I am setting up the vibratory field which makes it possible for you to begin to establish an awareness of personal meaning as you let the differentiated aspect of your Being find expression from within yourself. I can inspire that expression to some degree as you let me, I can encourage it, I can help you to function according to the laws that will let it be so; but I cannot do it for you, I cannot make you have it, I cannot add it to you. It must be something that finds expression through you as a differentiated expanded expression of your own centering of Being.

That centering of Being in relationship to yourself as a human being has not broken the chain. The chain of differentiated expansion through all the levels of Being from the Central SUN of Suns to the surface of this earth is carried out in absolute precision, harmony, beauty, perfection. There is no break of any kind in this chain between your own God Being and the Central SUN of Suns, but your God Being, containing the seed essence of that which is to find expression through you, is himself or herself a differentiated aspect of Being extended out from the centering of Being in the body of God. So we might say that insofar as this world is concerned you are supposed to be the skin of the body of God—the body of God inside, invisible. You are not aware of all the functions of God any more than you are aware of all the functions of your own body, the working of all the glands and all the systems in your body, all the nerve impulses. You are not aware of them and yet it does not keep you from enjoying life and having a full, rich life. Just so, you are not immediately aware of all the functions in the body of God, even though the evidences of life and life expression appear through you; for if we all function correctly, the body of God has a skin or a means of manifestation on earth. And if we break this pattern of attunement we in a sense are peeling off the skin from the body of God. We are refusing to let the body of God have a means of manifestation, so that it can be seen and known and understood right here on earth.

No Kingdom Without The King

from

No  Kingdom  Without  The  King

Martin Exeter   June 29, 1986

It is the delight of all of us gathered here in the Chapel at 100 Mile House to welcome all of you who are assembled at Still Meadow in Oregon. We would share an hour of unified service, to be with one accord in one place. This unified experience is made possible because there is a point of focus represented, in this instance, by me. There can never be a unified state in the body of mankind without the essential true point of focus.

There is some idea these days of permitting a unification to occur by some sort of a world government. Such unification could never happen except on an imposed basis as long as the true point of focus, in the spiritual sense, is denied. I am sure that good Christians would be inclined to say that they do not deny this true point of focus—seeing it in Jesus. It is quite evident that whoever is thought of as Jesus is not present in person to provide a point of focus which would allow for the unification of mankind. If He was present in person it would seem that the vast majority of the population of the earth (including Christians) would not be inclined to accept Him. I say including Christians, because what is present in the consciousness of those concerned might be described as a human production.

Nevertheless, there must be a point of unifying focus if there is to be participation in a unified state. There is no other way by which such a unified state could put in an appearance. There always have been those who have projected themselves as points of focus, both from the secular standpoint and from the religious standpoint. There have been multitudes of human beings who have gone along with this, but it has always produced conflict, because while some might go along with this one, others wouldn’t; and while some might go along with that one, others wouldn’t. So conflict has always been generated on the basis of attempting to establish a point of focus to which all human beings could subscribe.

The unified state has been looked upon as something in which everybody could participate because they got along together. This is an idea sometimes defined as the brotherhood of man, which presumably includes women too. It has never happened; it never could happen—it’s a pipe dream. This is the approach that has been generally made in the world as we know it by all concerned, to try to establish the kingdom of heaven—a wonderful state in which everybody got along so well together—but trying to do it without the King. There can’t be a kingdom unless there is a King—the fact of the kingdom is established because of the King. It can’t be put together by human beings, so that this beautiful state of getting along together is present on earth, lacking the King. This has been the attempt. One might say that here is original sin: the endeavor by man to build a marvelous state on earth, a beautiful kingdom of heaven, while denying the King, refusing admittance to the King.

I am sure good Christians would say, “Well we are not refusing admittance to the King; we are just waiting for Him to show up. When He comes we will welcome Him with open arms.” I wonder how they would know Him, if He did come? Would He come equipped with a halo to make sure that everybody knew, or dressed in some particular kind of robes? What foolishness! Human beings have made all kinds of images and likenesses of things in heaven above, and the earth beneath, and the water under the earth, and then worshipped them—tried to identify themselves with whatever was conjured up in their imagination. But it’s fantasy. It isn’t real! Consequently we have a very unreal state on earth, described sometimes as being a very irrational state. How pathetic! What arrogant self-centeredness! But it’s the human state, isn’t it?

There are those who believe this; there are those who believe that; there are those who believe the other thing. The very fact of belief is an indication that nobody knows. If you have to believe something, you don’t know. Knowing is impossible without the acceptance of the way things really are—in others words of the truth. If we have opinions still about this and about that and about the other thing, and therefore we align ourselves with this and we are against that, we don’t know the truth—which is a unified state, a harmonious state, a universal state, already established, already there. And there is this stupid projection on the part of human beings into this orderly condition, of what human beings would like, what they want, what they think would be pleasing to themselves—of course if you do it collectively, what is pleasing to all mankind, and that’s supposed to be all right. It isn’t! It’s still self-centeredness, arrogant self-centeredness, which ignores the fact that all things are in an orderly creative process, which is there whether human beings like it or not. And if they buck it, which they do, then it is a fatal business.

The one thing lacking, in the human attitude in general, is the acceptance of that spiritual point of focus in a personal sense. This is exactly what someone called Jesus apparently did—He accepted it for Himself. Who else has done that? No, the idea is somehow to set Him up on a pedestal and say, “Ah yes, we will worship our image, the image that we have set up, having been made like something that we imagine is in heaven.” Everybody goes along with this, one way or another. Of course not everybody is a Christian, but others have their own methods of denying that focus point of spirit.

It’s easy to deny when you can put it in some invisible realm which is only known by imagination. If it comes out on earth in form, in expression, it is more difficult to deny. It was done, in the person of Jesus— “Get rid of Him as quickly as possible”—because it shows up all human beings and their rottenness, their self-centeredness, their arrogance, trying to make the world conform to human wants, as though there was no other purpose in the whole universe than human wants. "Let’s take this little planet out of the universe and make it something that is suitable to human beings and then we will be satisfied.” It didn’t work, did it? And we see what is strangely defined as civilization on the skids. Of course. It must be! You can’t defy the way things work and get away with it forever.

For a while space has been given to repent, to stop this arrogant attitude on the part of human beings to try to get their own way. This business of eating of the forbidden fruit produces exactly what was described in the first place: it brings tribulation, suffering and death. Of course. Life moves through the whole universe according to the true design of it. Finally there must be those, if the whole state of affairs is not entirely to go down the drain, who will acknowledge the truth in their own living, the way things really are. This is acknowledged by accepting the focus of spirit. That focus has been defined by the word Love. Here is an acknowledgment of the fact that there is a design, that things work the way they do throughout the whole universe, that we may, accepting this, participate in the process in the particular way for which man was designed. He wasn’t designed to try to have his own way.

How shall this point of spiritual focus be discerned, accepted and experienced? We have seen something of the way the creative process works, and we have aligned ourselves in some measure with it, so that we have a somewhat changed experience. But I don’t think there is anyone around who would claim that all of the compulsions of human nature have been personally dissolved. They will never be personally dissolved until there is an acceptance of the truth, of the character, of the focus, of spirit.

This was described by using the word Father. The question arises as to what it is that fathers our thoughts, our words, and our deeds. What are the compulsions that cause us to act and behave the way we do? The word Father in the context which I have just used indicates Love. What love would bring forth is something that can only be discovered when we are willing to let love bring it forth. That requires the dissolution of our own personal human nature.

Everybody is aware of a sense of void and nakedness, and even futility at times, with respect to whatever it is that they are doing. For a while there may be enthusiasm, and that blots out what it is that is really happening; and if one can keep that enthusiasm generated then one will keep going and going until he is dead. But it’s not very enlightening; it doesn’t actually give the person meaning. Because of this lack of a sense of meaning, insofar as all human beings are concerned, we have these methods to try to hype ourselves up, to be convinced that there really is some meaning there. But it’s all nonsense, futility—human beings trying to have their own way and destroying themselves in the process. They have destroyed themselves as individuals generation after generation, and now we are about to do it collectively, unless there are those who will wake up from this nightmare, this fantastic nightmare, and begin to recognize, acknowledge, accept and express the truth. Here is the truth of love, waiting in the wings, so to speak, to be expressed. But human beings are grubbing around after their own affairs, totally unaware. So let’s pause a minute, continue to look up, and to accept the fact that as human entities we mean nothing. That fact is proven out in every generation. The human entity passes away; it didn’t mean anything. There was no more value even in a potential sense.

So we may see these things, if we are willing to look, if we have ears to hear and hearts to understand. “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name,” whole be thy name, let it be all that we are in expression—nothing else, no human idiosyncrasies thrown into the pot. Love. We don’t know what love is until we express it. There are all sorts of theories about it. The truth cannot be known until it’s expressed; and it won’t be expressed as long as we are expressing lies.

But the Father is present, waiting for those who will say, “This shall bring forth through me what rightly should be brought forth through me in this moment and this moment and this moment. I will not be dictated to by externals. I will not be told to behave by my earthly heredity. Hallowed be thy name. Let that be the wholeness of my expression.” Then “Thy kingdom come”—not before. But it still seems that most human beings imagine that they are going to build something worthwhile on earth, in their own image and likeness. And if they can call upon some imaginary deity to support them, well so much the better. Self-centered arrogance! “God, do what I want you to do!” Isn’t that the genie in the bottle? Uncork the bottle, a genie comes out and says, “Master, I will do whatever you want.” That sounds like antispirit.

So it is that human beings are subject to this state of affairs, worship at this shrine, and are moved by all this compulsion of antispirit: lacking the spirit of love finding expression under control according to the design of truth. Something is already happening everywhere else but in human experience. And of course human experience affects other forms of life round about, because man was created to provide a point of focus, of dominion, insofar as what occurred here on earth was concerned. And so we have inherited all this stuff—the mess of pottage—while rejecting the birthright, because there was no recognition of its value. So human beings grab each other or grab everything around them in order to try to satisfy themselves.

The birthright is accepted individually. There can be no change until that is done individually. There is no mass change to occur; it happens because one person lets it happen. It happened insofar as the One called Jesus was concerned apparently, but just one person! Isn’t that amazing that out of all the population of the earth so far, there has been just one person who would let it happen. He said, “Follow me.”

“The works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do,” because I am not around anymore to do them. What is happening in that regard? We awaken to responsibility and we begin to accept it and to let love be the expression of our living in the design of truth, to do what it will do in the design of truth. And we don’t know what it will do until it does it, and it can’t do it if we don’t accept it. The kingdom can’t come. It’s been waiting to come when there is some means by which it can come. And that involves people. That’s very fortunate, because if it didn’t involve people, people would have been swept from the face of the earth long ago as being utterly useless. They have stood as a barrier—but now maybe the door can open, maybe there is a rent in the veil. Certainly it was established by one man. “You can come on through; anybody may,” was said. No one believed it; no one accepted it for themselves—“Oh yes, for Him. He came through the veil; there is a rent over there somewhere.” But how about what happens in oneself, in one’s own experience?

No one anywhere on the face of the earth can prevent the experience of the expression of love through oneself. No one can stop it. There is no one to blame. Therefore if this expression does not radiate forth it is because one has prevented it entirely oneself. Finally, no more judgment! Judge not. No one else can prevent the experience of the truth of love in radiant expression through oneself except one’s own intransigence. That’s all! We have become so accustomed to finding scapegoats round about to blame, because we didn’t let it happen in our own experience. There isn’t anyone anywhere to blame; it’s even futile to blame oneself. But one has established and maintained any barriers that may be present to the expression of love.

So here we are, offering ourselves by reason of a unified experience—if we have been willing to accept it—because there is a focus of spirit present, articulating these things which we may all articulate together. And, behold, all things are made new on this basis. There isn’t any other way. Let us be willing to be moved by love, through the spirit of truth, in the way that life goes—the way that Life goes. And, behold the miracles that consequently occur; miracles are not always that pleasing to people in general; but miracles must occur if all things are indeed to be made new.

So I would offer the opportunity to Don Hynes in Still Meadow to say a word to us from that particular location, and the focus of spirit which he provides there.

Don Hynes — It’s good to be with you this morning, Martin. There is a unified body present here, certainly welcoming the focus of spirit that you provide and that we are so privileged to receive. There is a deep current of repentance that is present in our hearts for all of the silly schemes and designs that we have each individually allowed  to be present in the earth. And in this way we could represent and focus this current of repentance for the whole body of humanity, for all the absurdity that we have allowed to come, dishonoring the name of our Lord and King. In this current of repentance our hearts are easily opened, with love for the King and for the beauty of His kingdom. It’s what we love; it’s what we are.

We are so privileged, Martin, to be with you and to let the waters of our consciousness be turned to you, and to the focus of spirit that you provide. We would acknowledge this with every fiber of our being, that it would come into the earth of our own living, so that the King may return in this day. Where the King is welcome He does return. Each of us can say that individually; and that’s a miracle, but it’s an everyday miracle that we know. We certainly are thankful for this opportunity to share in the miracle of truth and life with you in this hour this morning. So, thank you.

Lord Exeter — Let us continue to share the miracle in the hours and days to come.

Each individual is designed to bring to focus the spirit of love, of truth, and of life. And when this one spirit activates the bodies, the minds and the hearts of all concerned, there is a consequent unified state. That is an unknown state to human beings the way they now are. It has seemed that even when it was suggested that there was such a state—the kingdom of heaven is at hand, after all—they prefer what they would think of perhaps as the devil they know, to the one they don’t. But of course the one they don’t isn’t the devil.

There is only one devil, and that is human nature, which directs and controls the behavior of human beings on earth and plays into the hands of those particular people who have some designs of their own in this regard, relative to some sort of world government, for instance. It is useless to fight against human nature. As along as people are fighting against human nature, which they do, human nature thrives. Life force is being poured into it; you increase what you fight against.

It is not that human nature is condoned in any sense of the word, but it isn’t disposed of by fighting against it. That which fights against human nature is another aspect of human nature. You remember, the dragon had many heads. The dragon which has been in the heaven of human control, controlling human beings everywhere, must be cast out, cast out because there are human beings who are not controlled by the dragon, whose Father is love, truth and life—every thought and every word and every deed being brought forth by this spirit to handle whatever is present in the environment, but never to be dictated to by the environment, never to be dictated to by human nature.

So we share the beauty of the truth, and the growing wonder of the experience of love radiating forth without concern for results, that all may be transformed in whatever way is necessary by that creative radiation which fills and governs the whole of the universe, except in this little spot where human minds and hearts have blocked it. Let the barriers dissolve, that all may be made new by the power, the creative power, of the spirit of the living God which is present and in operation throughout all that is.
