Sacred Space
Sacred Space
Martin Cecil July 24, 1977
I wonder if this evening we could take a look at the necessity for establishing and maintaining the essential vibratory space in which the creative power may be generated for doing what needs to be done. The idea very often seems to be that the state of oneness, which I am sure everybody knows is essential, comes as people press closer together. This is an idea that is usually in the consciousness of most, that we all need somehow to be closer together physically speaking. We are relatively close together this evening here in the Chapel and something may be accomplished by reason of this proximity in the physical sense but only to the extent that there is plenty of space vibrationally.
I am sure that when you do come into the Chapel for a service you expect to experience some sort of an expansion in your awareness and you find yourselves released in varying measure into a larger place vibrationally. The fact of close physical proximity recedes into the background. Possibly this beautiful Dome Chapel may help to give a feeling of space. There is a lot of air all around us here, reaching up twenty-five feet or so; and air is the symbol of spirit, so this may be helpful in causing a greater awareness of the largeness of space that is essential to creative processes. It is said that human beings are gregarious animals—I don’t think human beings should look upon themselves as animals—but they do tend to jam themselves together in small spaces, perhaps because there is a feeling of having lost the sense of relatedness which they inherently know should be experienced. So according to the usual human practice everybody tries to force it to appear.
When the Master was on earth, during His public ministry particularly, He often found Himself in the middle of crowds of people; they were pressing in all around Him. I am sure that you sense that insofar as He was concerned, vibrationally speaking there was always a large space around Him. The fact of this physical pressure did not interfere with the maintenance of vibrational space. There can be no generation of essential power without this space. A great deal of power is generated by a thunderstorm. A flash of lightning, either from cloud to cloud or from cloud to ground, requires space to appear. It is said that the coming of the Son of Man would be comparable to the lightning shining out of the east even unto the west. Here is an indication of space, lots of room. Human beings find themselves very restricted, not only from the physical standpoint but in every other way as well. We are concerned with the heaven, particularly from the standpoint of the space made available by reason of the heaven. If we look up into the night sky we see the symbol of the heavens, a vast array of lights in the firmament of the heaven and an immense amount of space.
All this space is an essential part of the creative process and we cannot ourselves participate in that creative process as it relates to our own fields of responsibility without space. Yet human beings tend to crowd in on each other. Because earthly orientation prevails, if there is physical crowding this tends to be taken as a reason to feel restricted vibrationally speaking. People will try to break out of their physical restrictions in order to discover some larger vibrational place where they might have more freedom for creative expression. As with most things people have it backwards. There is in fact plenty of vibrational space. We don’t have to produce it somehow; it is already there; but virtually everyone has become more or less unconscious of it because everything is seen in terms of the physical nature of things. If we are tightly squeezed physically speaking then the attitude is taken that there is not much space. Well there may not be much space physically speaking but this didn’t squeeze out the vibrational space in actual fact. Human beings have squeezed that out of their own consciousness because they are so busy reacting to the material conditions.
Becoming aware of the reality of vibrational space because we begin to awaken to it we need no longer feel crowded. There is lots of room. Sometimes we say of a person who has got into a rather restricted condition, “That person needs more room, more room to develop.” Actually there is lots of room for the development of anybody but most people are unaware of the fact. What is really needed is that the individual should be caused to awaken to the fact that there is plenty of room and to take advantage of that fact, instead of being squeezed into very small places. As there begins to be a consciousness of the reality of that vibrational space and we begin to learn how to function in relationship to it fittingly we discover that there begins to be more physical space. We have taken note all along of the fact that what is physically evident, what is materially present, is a reflection of the state of consciousness. As human beings have a very restricted state of consciousness they find themselves in very crowded conditions physically. When we begin to realize that there is no restriction vibrationally except what we impose upon ourselves, so that we begin to learn how to function in this large space always present, then external circumstances begin to reflect that fact.
When a male and a female begin to feel something moving between them the usual reaction is to try to jam in closer to each other, imagining that by getting close physically a greater sense of oneness will ensue. But oneness is based not in physical proximity but in right participation in the living design which is present in the large space all around us. The passage in the Book of Revelation which speaks of 144,000 following the Lamb whithersoever he goeth has tended to be seen in human consciousness as a vast crowd of people all jamming in together, with the poor Lamb being squeezed to death. In other words oneness is looked upon as being physical closeness. It isn’t. The universe is one, and there is more space in the universe than anything else and it is by reason of that space that the oneness is maintained. So we may see in relationship to each other that we do in fact need to give each other space, to function in a way that allows others to realize that they have space.
Only when we begin to have a sense of spaciousness is there any possibility of realizing the true nature of oneness. Each individual requires space to be him- or herself. This space of which I speak is vibrational space. There must be sufficient vibrational substance available to permit the individual to become aware of the fact that there is space. The generation of that substance comes by reason of one’s own right expression of heavenly heredity, but it also comes by reason of one’s own right relationship with others who may be in the vicinity. Each individual needs to experience the truth of him- or herself before the reality of collective oneness would be possible, and yet almost always the immediate human reaction in a recognition that there needs to be a greater oneness is to try to jam in close together physically. There is no necessity to jam in close together physically, because attention should be paid to the vibrational factors primarily rather than the physical ones. Our pattern of right association one with another is of a vibrational nature. What happens in the external sense, in the physical sense, in the material sense, properly just follows along with respect to what is happening vibrationally. If we try to make something happen vibrationally by jamming up close together, as though that would produce a sense of oneness, we find ourselves in troubles of all kinds. How willing are you that others should have space? How willing are you to bring assurance to others that they do have space?
Sometimes with married couples, for instance, the husband or the wife or both are most unwilling to give their partner vibrational space. Various justifications can be produced no doubt to assure oneself that it is necessary to maintain some sort of restrictions here. We may see perhaps that restrictions are necessary for children; certain limits are properly set if there is to be a safe and proper childish development. So there may seem to be restrictions for children, and properly there are. Of course as a child grows there is the need to expand the space so that a child has more and more space to begin to discover him- or herself. Without a realization of the fact of that space a person can never discover him- or herself. And most people seem to be afraid of too much space. There are those who try to break out of what they think of as restrictions, particularly the restrictions of their elders, but they almost invariably fall into greater restrictions still. These are obvious enough if we look around us in the world, the way human beings break out of one set of restrictions and fall into another.
Our concern is with the heavenly space. Of course those who are moving toward a greater experience of the truth of themselves start as children and consequently they have to be kept close physically. A child that is growing up is kept close physically, for safety’s sake for one thing, and because being kept close physically the influence that may be extended by parents, which should be right influence but seldom is, may be more effective. So it is from the standpoint of the movement of those who begin to be pointed in the direction of greater spiritual maturity; they come as children and if they are to grow to spiritual maturity they must be restricted initially. A lot of people rebel against that. We have had many people approach our ministry and back off because they thought they saw so many restrictions. Well if they did they were probably right because children need these restrictions. They need to be kept to point. There needs to be a control extended directly in this way so that the children may be held in the vicinity of the atmosphere which will permit the development of greater maturity. If they refuse to be held in that atmosphere they cannot experience greater spiritual maturity. However, of course no one is forcibly held. It isn’t a matter of putting people in straitjackets. The way children are rightly held is by love, and so properly the spiritual children learn to love. They may not appreciate or understand all the restrictions which may seem to be present for the time being but because they love those who are responsible in the parental sense they stick around. Maybe you have had that experience. If you don’t stick around, then the means by which you might become aware of the vibrational space that is available to you could never be experienced. So there are some restrictions.
That is the trouble with a lot of adults; they never learned to do what they were told as children so they don’t have that capacity when they are adults, and it is a little tougher to learn when you are an adult because the attitude is then taken, “Well I’m grown up now.” Are you? Are you sure? While there may be the evidence of an adult physical body most people grew up very little, mentally perhaps to some extent, but precious little, as a rule, emotionally; people are still children emotionally. And as for spiritual maturity, what’s that? Well what a child should learn as a child may have to be learned, by a person who didn’t learn it as a child, as an adult and that is seemingly a tougher proposition for the individual concerned and for everyone else too. But until we grow up to the point where we can become aware of the vibrational space that is available to us we certainly can’t mature spiritually. To mature spiritually one must become aware of the space that is available for such maturity to be experienced and he will not become aware of that space unless there has been a sufficient growing up in those areas where the growing up should already have been experienced as a child—but virtually never has been in almost everyone. Older people sometimes object to being treated as though they were children when the fact of the matter is that they are children in adult bodies!
Gradually there may come a greater awareness of the fact that there is space available in which one may mature for oneself; but how many there are who seem to be afraid of maturing for themselves. They want to be propped up by somebody else, and we find male-female relationships developing on this basis very often, where there are two slanty people propping each other up and if one of them gives way the other one gives way. One needs to grow up vertically and be able to stand for oneself. To do that one must have space around one and not have other people jamming in vibrationally into that space. We need to learn not to jam into other people’s space, and to generate a hedge around our own so that we do not allow all and sundry to jam into our vibrational space. My what a tangled mess there is in the field of human relationships because blindly human beings jam into each other’s vibrational space without any awareness of what they are doing! It is extremely destructive. Individually we may mature within the vibrational space which is our own but we can’t do that if someone else is jamming into it. I don’t think you have observed me going around and jamming into everybody’s vibrational space, taking people to task for their weaknesses and their failures and all the rest, or trying to develop some sort of relationship with somebody or other by jamming into their vibrational space. From my standpoint I leave people alone because I know that unless a person grows up for him- or herself he will never grow up.
We have to learn how to sustain the vibrational space that is around us so that we refuse to allow others to jam into it. Those who find themselves specifically in fields of direct service with respect to others need to have a keen awareness of the sacredness of the vibrational space around people. Of course most people have no awareness that there is anything around them that is sacred. This is something that we have the responsibility of inspiring, that an individual may begin to wake up to the fact that he or she is him- or herself. But if a person is tangled up with somebody else how is he ever going to learn what he is himself, or she is herself? Each is always being conditioned by somebody else. We have many patterns of husband and wife where each partner needs to learn to give the other one space so that there is not a continual jamming into the vibrational space which is sacred to the other. One may perhaps be invited in by somebody but even if one is invited in the approach must be made with considerable respect and a keen consciousness of the sacredness of the trust that is being placed in one.
Servers of course need to learn this because there are those whom they serve who will invite them into their vibrational space probably because they have been accustomed to inviting in all and sundry anyway, but if you are a server and are so invited you don’t go jamming in there and taking over and trying to push the furniture around, so to speak, to get it the way you think it ought to be. You approach with the shoes from off your feet because you stand on holy ground. Taking the shoes from off your feet is relinquishing any human concepts you may have still hanging around which might cause you to try to make over the person into whose vibrational field you are invited. Treat it with respect and an attitude of sacredness so that the individual may begin to learn that it is sacred, even if he has not realized it before. One must have this vibrational space around one into which one’s fellows may not trespass except possibly on invitation, as I say—but then you need to be very careful who it is you invite in. The wisest one to invite in is the Lord but even the Lord will not come jamming in there. It is said that fools rush in where angels fear to tread. We need to respect each other in this regard and to respect ourselves. Unless we have vibrational space around us that is kept sacred we have no holy place, and if we have no holy place we cannot live.
The truth of life springs out of the holy place. If we violate our holy place, or the holy place of others we die; we squeeze out the life. The state of oneness can only be known because all these holy places relative to each individual are in place and kept holy. Then the design of right relationship can be established on the basis of the space between because the space between is holy; it is capable of accommodating the true design. If we do not have any such space we could not possibly know what the true design is. Human beings have not had any awareness of that for so long simply because there have been virtually no holy places by which it might be known, and because there did not seem to be any right pattern of relationships human beings went ahead and tried to set them up themselves on the basis of the way they happened to feel for the moment. They would look the field over and say, “Oh, well I feel something with respect to that person; I wonder if that person will feel something with respect to me. Let’s go and try to find out and do whatever is possible to get the thing moving.” If you multiply that by about four billion people you have got a mess! But there is a design, there is a proper pattern of creative relationships, the relationships that are right for the divine purpose, not the relationships that are right to satisfy human beings. That is not it at all and as long as a person wishes to remain childish in the human state, well he can continue to muck things up; but our concern presumably is to let order be brought out of chaos. Order can never be brought out of chaos until the essential space is realized in relationship to oneself and observed with respect to others.
You will note that in what we call the solar system there is a good deal of space too. There is oneness; the solar system is one. That doesn’t mean all the planets fell into the sun. Usually with the concepts that human beings may have about the positive and negative aspects of being it is thought that somehow or other the positive should swallow up the negative. It is not a matter of swallowing up. It is a matter of establishing a balance, with the essential space between. It is only as there is the essential space between that the experience of oneness is possible. If the necessity of that space between is ignored and people try to jam into each other they will never know oneness. They can’t because it is not established on that basis.
The two aspects, the two poles, are essential and they are essential for the generation of power. The power is generated in the space. If there is to be a lightning stroke there must be positive and negative poles present with space in between. We recall again the old carbon lamp principle. There must be space between the two carbons, with the electrical charge in each carbon, positive and negative, if there is to be an arc. The arc is generated in the space. The power by which there may be creative achievement is generated in the space between people, when there is a correct balance on the basis of the positive and the negative. Then something may flow, or jump the gap, however you might describe it, and you have light and heat which relate incidentally to truth and love, the true characteristics of life. And what needs to be achieved on earth is achieved by reason of the controlled expression of life, not by life running amuck, which is what the present human experience is. So our concern is to let things come under control and into balance. This requires that we give people space, in the recognition that the space is there already. We are not producing it; it is there already; but by our own living we need to acquaint people with the fact that it is there already and that they need to take care of it. As there is inviolate space between people the association may appear on the basis of the fact of that space because it is through that space that whatever is required creatively may occur.
I wonder how conscious you are, individually speaking, of the reality of your own holy place. We have taken note before that it is possible to recognize seven levels of being in the dimensional world. There is obviously the physical level, the level of our flesh bodies. There is the mental level, but the mental level which may be said to be composed of mental substance interpenetrates the physical substance and extends beyond it. And then there is the spiritual expression level which interpenetrates the physical and mental levels and goes beyond both. Then there is the substance of the heart, emotional substance, which interpenetrates physical substance, mental substance, the substance of spiritual expression, and goes beyond all three. If we move beyond that to the fifth level we find the same to be true. Whatever characterizes this fifth level in the way of substance interpenetrates all the levels below it and goes beyond, and so on, up to the seventh level which interpenetrates all the levels below and goes beyond. The seventh level, the seventh heaven, merges into the heaven of heavens which is beyond the dimensional world as we know it. If we see this interpenetration we see something of the largeness of space that there is in relationship to a person. I have not attempted to say how far each might go beyond the last because it is not really a matter of distance, but there is some distance involved. The very smallest thing about you is your physical body. There is far more to you than your physical body, far more substance, far more space occupied by that substance, substance of varying vibrational intensities, and it all is rightly holy. It is holy because at the highest level it merges into the dimensionless state of God.
So the space is available, the substance is available, and the holiness is available. The physical body, the lowest level, is in a position where it receives whatever is imposed upon it. It has no choice of its own. Your body has no choice of its own. Choices are established by reason of the higher vibrational levels of substance, generally speaking in the human state by what occurs mentally and by the emotional levels which are present mentally and physically, and that is supposed to be a human being—very restricted. And feeling very restricted there is the endeavor to somehow or other make it some other way. Well the restrictions are an illusion because in fact, as long as life remains, there are all the other levels as well present but unexperienced. We are learning to let them be experienced, and that experience comes as we allow an increasing expansion of the vibrational space around us. We begin to become aware of ourselves as being something far different from the little human ego state which we have known before. And in this new experience of holiness we find that there is a right relationship between ourselves individually which permits a vast variety of creative fields to be established in which the power of God may be generated for the achievement of the purposes of God.
Riverbend Orchard Kamloops BC
Fundamentally those purposes center in whatever is necessary to the restoration of man, and one of the things that is necessary in this regard is that there should be found those human beings who are willing to acknowledge the space around them and who are willing that it should be kept holy. When it is clear in this fashion then there may be a keen vibrational perception of the proper patterns of right relationship, and never under any circumstances do we go jamming into someone else’s holy place. We respect each one and the holy place that should be there, even though very largely it may not be there because the individual never realized that there should be a holy place, never grew up sufficiently to experience it. So in our attitude we encourage others to retain their integrity, to keep inviolate the sacred space around them; and we would never do anything to violate that sacred space in anyone nor would we ever allow it to be violated in ourselves. When this is so there is, one might say, a collective holy place of all those who are so living. The ways of the Lord are very specific and require us to awaken out of the dream state and get to work.

Spiritual Core For The World
Spiritual Core For The World
Martin Cecil April 24, 1979 Assembly
Peripheral action relates to our everyday living in the external environment. If we are about our Father’s business, then obviously what occurs peripherally speaking will be an evidence of what has been occurring in the core sense. The core may be seen as relating primarily to spirit. There is obviously peripheral activity insofar as our collective body is concerned, whether this little body here or the larger body of ministry, and this all occurs by reason of what is present in the core. There is no meaningful peripheral action without a core. When there is a core there will be a periphery. We don’t really need to concern ourselves too much about the periphery. Our main concern is with the core. Once there is a right core there will be a reflection of that in the peripheral expression.
If we are considering this peripheral expression, because of what is happening in the core, there are really two aspects to it. The peripheral expression opens a door for those who are ready to come home; and it doesn’t only open a door for people, it opens a door for anything that is ready to come home, anything that has been sufficiently freed up from the structured human nature state of affairs to be able to come home. This may happen with respect to people, and our primary concern is with people, but it may also happen with respect to things, obviously. The whole world needs to come home and everything in it. “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.” It all needs to come home; but our concern principally is with people.
There are those who are ready to move through the door, if the door is open, and participate directly with us in the core—the Spiritual Core for the World. There have been relatively few of these. We had to wash a great deal of gravel before finding the little color of gold here and there. But the only purpose is not to find the gold. Gravel has its uses too. The first aspect relates to this matter of the gold, relates to those who have reached a point where they are in position to come through the door and share directly with us in the spiritual core. The vast majority are not in that position yet—it is a very, very small percentage of all those who are touched by reason of peripheral activity, whether that peripheral activity is a collective one or an individual one in the sense of our individual contact with people. So, while we recognize there is the need for those who are ready to come home, and a provision has to be made for that, there is also something else which is properly accomplished on the basis of the peripheral activity. We have some sort of a core now, and consequently, while this first requirement is still there, for those who are ready to come home, something beyond that can be undertaken in the larger sense—there is something to move out in a creative way into the consciousness of mankind and achieve something in that area. What is being achieved in that area is stirring things up, so that those who are moving in the upward direction may be caused to keep moving in that upward direction, and those who are moving in the downward direction may either be caused to change their ways or to move more rapidly in the downward direction. This is the main concern actually, once there is an adequate core to let it happen.
There will continue to be a few of those who come home directly and participate in the core, but that is likely to remain a relative few, properly so, because the core could easily be destroyed in its spiritual effectiveness if the door was open to a host of people to come rushing in. So it is not opened in that way. It is only opened on the basis of a welcome to those who are ready to come in and who are prepared to be a part of the spiritual core. The vast majority of people are not, and let us not fool ourselves in this regard. We are not trying to convert the world in that sense, because we know that that is an absolutely impossible task. If anything was going to be achieved on this basis I’m sure it would have been achieved long ago.
The gospel needs to be preached in all the world—the true gospel, the reality of the good news of the kingdom. What the kingdom is, spiritually speaking, needs to be projected into the consciousness of mankind, but it is not going to be projected into the consciousness of mankind by talking everybody’s ear off. It is something that is done vibrationally—and it is the vibrational impact of the spiritual core which achieves what is necessary. This core must become increasingly cohesive and increasingly specific in its action. For action there is the required necessity of substance, and for action substance there is the required necessity of substance of connection.
In our peripheral living, whether individually or collectively, a pressure must be brought to bear in the consciousness of mankind that is sustained—sustained creative pressure. That creative pressure is the natural expression of angels. When an angel is in expression on earth, incarnate on earth in human form and in expression, the pressure is there simply by reason of the expression of the angel—that is the pressure. But the pressure must be contained some way so that it doesn’t go ‘poof’ like an explosion of some kind and then there’s nothing more. It is something that is sustained, and it is sustained on the basis of the fact that there is a facility by which this pressure may be held and directed. That facility is the human being. That facility is our body and our mind and our heart, in a very specific way. It includes spiritual expression—that is the main part of it—but there is no spiritual expression on earth without a body and a mind. So the container needs to be capable of handling that sort of pressure, to stand up under it so that it is not pushed off balance, which it will be if there is a continuing reaction to externals—if human nature is still in the picture and capable of controlling, so that the prince of this world comes and finds something. As long as he can find nothing all is safe; but as soon as he finds something then a leak is sprung and the pressure that was being generated begins to be lost.
We can see this from the individual standpoint. You have all had experience in this regard when, as it has been put, a person blows his pneumaplasm. But he does not usually see that in doing that he is doing it in the whole body of things too, and everybody is affected by it. You cannot, if you really are participating in the core in any measure, spring a leak and not affect everybody else. The pressure tends to be reduced in the peripheral expression of the whole body, and the effectiveness therefore of the Archangelic spiritual expression is reduced. In such a case, the door is closed to some extent to those who are ready to come and share in the core. But also the pressure is reduced in the other aspect of creative activity, namely the separation of the sheep from the goats; and so the whole thing is delayed. It is the core that is of vital importance then, because it is in the core that the pressure is sustained. And it is by reason of the periphery that the pressure sustained in the core can be directed into the wider sphere of the human consciousness. In that sphere then there will be attraction and repulsion—the working of the Law—radiation, response, attraction. But you could say radiation, reaction, repulsion. That is going on too, and with the world the way it is, the repulsive aspect is usually the one that is most evident. We see many repulsive things occurring the world around. That is evidence of reaction to radiation from the spiritual core of things. So our concern is to allow this spiritual core to be so strong and consistent that there may be the build-up of the essential creative pressure by which what needs to be done will be done.
We have noted that there are three factors here. One, the welcome home of those who are ready to move into the core. The other is the attraction of those who are unlikely to be participating in that spiritual core but nevertheless they are a part of what is happening in the creative sense. There is an attraction, they are beginning to align themselves beyond the periphery with the spiritual expression of the Archangel, but they are not going to participate in the actual spiritual core. The third group, probably the largest, are going to be repelled. So there are those in this further field beyond the periphery who are being attracted and are being integrated into something beyond the core; and there are those who are participating in the processes of disintegration. We see that all this is a part of the creative process. We cannot object to it, and we cannot, certainly, blame the Lord because there are those who insist upon disintegrating. We have done a bit of it ourselves, after all. I don’t think it was the Lord’s fault.
For this core to form as it should, there must be the generation of substance—the substance of connection first, and then the substance of action, the action which extends by reason of our peripheral function, the peripheral function relating to the external expression of our daily living, our immediate contact with the world around us. That is the periphery, whether it is an individual periphery or whether it is a collective periphery. Sometimes, in the collective sense we develop something specific (seminars and such) and provide a focus point for creative action relative to what is beyond the periphery into this field of which I have been speaking. We need to be very much aware of the fact that on that basis, and on the basis of our individual living, and on the basis of the collective movement in a general sense of our whole body, something is constantly being extended in this regard. It is so when there is this creative pressure. This creative pressure will be there to the extent that there is the reality of the core. That collective core expression is absolutely dependent upon the fact of the individual core state in each person. We cannot sort of jump into a collective core. We have to provide the core individually speaking if there is to be a collective one. So we all have this particular responsibility. And it requires a generation of the essential substance for it to be so, because the core is a spiritual core. There must be a proper connection therefore with spirit, and a proper means by which spirit can find expression beyond the core. There is the spiritual substance above and the spiritual substance below. The spiritual substance below can be seen in terms of a cup running over from the spiritual substance above, because without the spiritual substance above there could not be anything of any value in the way of spiritual substance below.
We have this requirement, then, for the generation of spiritual substance. We may see it as being absolutely essential to the actual ministry for which we are responsible, the ministry which welcomes home those who are ready to come home, and should come home and participate in the core—and that doesn’t include everybody—and the ministry to those beyond the ones who are going to participate in the core, but who are going to provide a further peripheral manifestation which is aligned with the creative expression of the collective core. Insofar as the body of mankind is concerned there is a core for the right function of the body of mankind. It may be said that the whole body of mankind is the core for the right function of what is beyond the body of mankind in the creative field for which man is responsible. But within the body of mankind, which is our immediate concern, there is a creative core, and we have a responsibility to allow this spiritual core to be a reality and to provide the essential pressure by which everything is achieved beyond the periphery of that core.
We have been giving some consideration to the generation of substance, recognizing that at the focus point for this is what we have referred to as the First Seal. It is a physical point of departure for what is to be generated of spiritual substance at all the various levels where this is required, to allow the outpouring of the Holy Spirit—the whole spirit. This generation is initiated at this particular starting point. Unless there is an individual experience in this regard there cannot be anything beyond that—you cannot have whatever number is required for the whole spiritual core. Unless there are individuals who know what they are doing, there is not a basis for anything else. The First Seal—the beginning point at the lowest level. Associated with that first seal we recognize the Spirit of the New Earth. You will note, the new earth, something new. This involves a totally transformed attitude insofar as human consciousness is concerned. The Spirit of the New Earth implies that there is something totally fresh and totally new. “Behold, I make all things new.” The former things are passed away. The old attitudes, the old human structures relative particularly to this specific point, must be relinquished, must be allowed to pass away, so there is no holding on in this regard. If there is, then it prevents anything else from happening. This applies not only to this focus point of the physical realm but to all the various aspects of human function in this material world. There needs to be a total transformation of attitude with respect to everything. We have experienced some transformation in our own awareness, in our own outlook, and in our own attitudes of living. This all comes to focus at this point of the First Seal.
We need to see the Spirit of the New Earth as requiring a total transformation of outlook, of attitude, of awareness, of everything, in relationship to what has been called physical sex. “Behold, I make all things new.” Unless we are willing to let all things be made new at the point of initiation, what else can happen? Yet this is one of the factors in human nature experience where there is one of the tightest holds maintained; and where there is an inclination for people to imagine that they know something about this field. The Spirit of the New Earth—here is a door which has been firmly closed in the human nature experience. We have seen it as a door which leads to the generation of substance relative to the higher vibrational levels, for the wholeness of our expression. If we keep the door closed, keep something restricted a physical experience, there can be no sensing, and certainly no experience, of anything beyond that. This is a door which leads to the Second Seal, the Third Seal, the Fourth Seal, and all the way up the line. It leads to all spheres of angelic expression in the dimensional world. Obviously there is going to be something very distorted, and very destructive too, if it is all limited to the level of the first seal, where there is so little generation of adequate substance that there is no consciousness of the Spirit of the New Earth. Most of the consciousness which people have is of the absence of the Spirit of the New Earth—the spirit of something old, the spirit of something which is decaying. That is the spirit of decay prominent in human consciousness, where all the values are. The Spirit of the New Earth relates to the present moment, the only moment where there may be the experience of what is new. So here we are in the present moment with the First Seal—here and now.
The door needs to be opened so that the attention is not restricted to that First Seal. If we are considering sex function as such, in the physical sense, attention tends to be pinned to this First Seal—it all comes to point in this First Seal. But if we see the First Seal as being a door, well we may recognize that this being opened permits a perception of something beyond the First Seal, beyond the Spirit of the New Earth. We must have some consciousness of the quality and nature of the Spirit of the New Earth, which should take our attention away from the past and away, consequently, from the structures that are present relative to this particular focus at the physical level, so that we can be released and begin to discern something beyond what the experience is at that level. There needs to be a relaxing, a letting go, in this area as much as in any other, so that the door may be opened.
There is something in the 24th Psalm itself: “Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.” There is very little recognition on the part of most that this relates to what human beings think of as sex. “Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors,” because here is the door to whatever else is going to be experienced spiritually speaking. If we close it off then there can be no creative spiritual experience. Here is the gate and the door. It refers to the male and female aspects of the matter, which when they are brought together correctly, either in the individual or between individuals, opens the door, the gate, for the King of Glory to come in. The King of Glory—the King of Life, comes in through the substance that is provided at every level for the expression of the whole spirit, the Holy Spirit. So, for the door to be opened it must first of all be recognized as a door and not something in and of itself, an end and aim all on its own. “Here is fulfillment!”—it doesn’t work out that way as a rule. It is not fulfillment. It is a starting point. It is a door which needs to be opened; and if it is to be opened one does not concentrate on the door. The point is to open the door. The First Seal is the door which allows for the movement beyond the door, the sensing first of all of what it is that is beyond the door. We may be reminded of certain passages that have been provided for our edification in the Bible: “In quietness and confidence is my strength.” “Be still, and know that I am God.” There are many such statements which are an indication of the right quality of experience related to this physical focus—the First Seal. One should relax—letting go of the old, letting go to the new—it is all letting go. It all indicates an easy experience. It does not point to some frenetic activity.
“In quietness and confidence is my strength.” Here is the beginning of the creative power to be generated, because substance is being generated and allowed to ascend before the throne of God, being allowed to fill out the creative capacities, that these might be available for the Divine use—not for human use at all—right use, or righteousness. We might be reminded of the 23rd Psalm: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” That does not indicate that one is struggling or trying to achieve some fulfillment or other. One is willing to trust the Lord. When there is such trust and the human desire is allowed to settle down, then “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures”—here is a relaxing into the true experience of life. “He leadeth me beside the still waters”—here is the stillness again. Virtually everything that is offered, particularly in the Old Testament, relates to the physical approach, relates to the First Sacred School, in other words. Consequently we can see it as being brought to focus at this point of the First Seal. There is abundant instruction in this regard, which people have virtually overlooked in favor of their own desires, rather than to allow the true use, the right use, under the hand of the Lord.
“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.” Something very relaxed about that, isn’t there? Green is the color related to life, the richness and abundance of all that is needed for true living. “He leadeth me beside the still waters,” the still waters of consciousness. We see this properly relative to this first point of initiation, the door which has been closed. You know, it’s a door that opens one way, and human beings have been trying to make it open the wrong way. Very frustrating! If the door opens by turning the handle and pulling it towards you, then it is quite futile to try to open it by turning the handle and pushing it the other way. This is exactly what human beings have been trying to do—trying to open a door the wrong way, struggling with it? If they would just settle down, just calm down, just be quiet for a moment and give it a little consideration, then they could easily turn the handle and pull the door towards them. Nobody can push their way into the kingdom of God. The King of Glory shall come in to where one is, and into the world, when the door is opened in the right way.
Then we discover that it is not just a matter of the First Seal. This does not occupy the total horizon—there comes the awareness of something beyond that. The Spirit of the New Earth is seen, a recognition that there must be a totally new experience, a totally new attitude and awareness, but also there is a sensing of the Spirit of the Single Eye, a one-pointedness with respect to what it is that is occurring spiritually, that we are not locked into the physical experience as though that was all there was. And as we should well see, the physical experience is very little, minute, when we consider the whole spectrum. Why should it be seen in such large proportions? If in fact it has a certain magnitude in human consciousness, then what much greater magnitude would be known if the whole spectrum was known? It is not going to reduce what is right relative to the First Seal. It is going to add something tremendously more, so that we finally are amazed to discover that what had been thought of as being so magnificent with respect to the First Seal is scarcely anything at all. When we begin to see this, and to sense something that is beyond, because some substance is being generated and is giving form to something that is beyond now, that couldn’t be comprehended before because there wasn’t the substance there, then we begin to experience the Spirit of the Single Eye.
Our concern is totally with respect to what it is that is needful to allow the King of Glory to come in. There is the realization that the coming of the King of Glory eliminates entirely the human ego—but in the Spirit of the Single Eye, that is our concern, because we have no other reason for existence in human consciousness but to allow the consciousness of the Lord to fill it. And it is the filling of all these various vibrational levels in our dimensional selves that is the experience of fulfillment. There is no other way by which it could be known, and we see logically that it is so. So there is the Spirit of the Single Eye, as well as the Spirit of the New Earth. The reality of these is sensed increasingly because there is substance to allow them to have reality in our own experience. Spirit of and by itself is undimensional, and how can the dimensional consciousness know it? It cannot, until there is substance which allows it to be known, substance in which the particular spirit can incarnate—and when it does, when the substance is there, it is the substance of our own consciousness, and we know it. We know the reality of the spirit, and we see that there is a purpose for all this. We sense the purpose immediately the door begins to open, but we become increasingly aware of the purpose in more specific terms. That purpose comes to focus particularly in the Spirit of Blessing, in the blessing that may be given.
To extend the blessing of spiritual expression, the blessing of love, into the world—here is the action, here is the pressure, here is what compels choices to be made by human consciousness wherever it comes to focus. We are here to exert that pressure, and we cannot exert that pressure without having the substance which lets it be so. And we certainly cannot experience the generation of that substance, and the awareness that comes in consequence, if we keep the door closed which allows us to move into that experience. So we no longer try to get anything. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” Our total concern is to allow what we have known in human consciousness to be dissolved, thereby permitting all things to be made new, thereby making available the space into which the essential substance can be generated and the truth consequently known. The truth of spirit, the action of love, the power of love, in daily living, revealed at the periphery of our living because it floods through the whole of our living. It floods through the whole of our living from this central point of beginning, until all the space is filled with the spiritual substance which belongs. And then the Holy Spirit may be said to come upon the human consciousness, and it shines round about.
There is the pressure of Light present by which all things are made new—by which those come Home into the Core who belong there. Others come home in relationship to that core, belonging there; and others still depart—they are the workers of iniquity. Behold, all things are thereby made new. But it only happens because there is the means for its happening. We are becoming aware of our own individual responsibility in that means, the responsibility which, because we carry it individually, we also carry it collectively. Glory to God in the highest. Let all things be made new. “Lift up your heads, O ye gates … be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.”
