Your  Questions  Answered 

Uranda   February 14, 1938

Question — I am a great lover of animals, and have just lost a beautiful pet cat of which I was very fond. What happens to that life when it goes out? Does it evolve and progress, or is its life meaningless? 

Uranda’s Answer — The last question shows the results produced by the maze of human conjecturing and theorizing. No manifestation of life is “meaningless” yet the life of the cat, or any other animal, does not “evolve and progress” in the sense indicated by most teachings. All life manifestations, vegetable, animal and human, are forms from which the process of Ascension takes place. The body of the cat is in constant flux, just as surely as with all animal life, including the human phase. However, the animals do not have an Inner Soul in the same sense that human beings do. With all animal life there is what may be called a Life-Ray-Soul. 

The formations of the Inner Planes which correspond to the vegetable and animal kingdoms of the outer world, though they are in no sense similar in formation, and cannot well be described in human language, are all of Positive Substance which has Ascended through the material planes. These formations each radiate a Life-Ray to which the Seed of the corresponding earth manifestation responds, so that the Life-Ray is received by the germ of the seed. The vibration is set and cannot be changed to any great degree. Every animal has a Life-Ray connecting it with the Inner Plane Manifestations, and over this Life-Ray the Responding Substance of that animal Ascends into the Inner Planes, and so becomes a part of what might be called (for no term could really name it) the Inner Plane Animal Kingdom. 

Very sensitive people sometimes become aware of these Life-Rays, and from them have come the stories of “Nature Spirits”, “Tree Spirits”, “Mountain Spirits”, and the like. A recently published book by quite a widely known teacher is supposed to describe certain “Beings”, both of this earth and of other planets. I would mention at this point that those who think that they have journeyed to other planets, and to the sun, have only contacted in some faint sense some of the Inner Plane manifestations of this world, and have attempted to describe them when they themselves did not understand them—and the result has been much confusion. Needless to say, those who claim to have travelled to other planets have not done so. It is possible to know that there is Life Manifestation on every planet; but the important thing is for human beings to begin to understand our own planet.

The point I would bring out in connection with the above mentioned book, and others of like nature, is that they do not describe God Beings, or Angels, as supposed; but they have vaguely, and without understanding, touched some of the Life-Ray-Souls of the Inner Plane Animal and Vegetable Kingdoms. The descriptions are not in any way authentic, and nothing can be gained by reading them, but it does show that certain persons have contacted the vibrations of Life-Ray-Souls which are focalized in our own animal and vegetable kingdoms. From this same source have sprung all the stories of “fairies” and kindred ideas.

It is not wise for human beings to begin to question greatly on this point. I have here given all that it is now needful for you to know. If you try to study into it in detail now you will only find confusion for the simple reason that you cannot yet understand yourself; and until you understand yourself you cannot hope to understand all the Secrets of Nature. Rejoice that there is an outworking of the Process of Ascension through all forms of life, including fish and birds. Enjoy Nature in all her abundant beauty. Respond in Love to your Lord, and in due season you will know yourself, and then you will understand all Reality. Those who have thought to write so much on these subjects have only shown their own ignorance, and have confused others. Let first things be first. One more point in this connection. It is well to love animals, and all creation. However, many people love animals in the wrong way.

 

All Responsive Love should be toward that which is Above, with some slight degree permitted on the plane of one's own manifestation in order to function in the Creative Cycles under the Law of the Positive and Negative. All Enfolding Love should be outward on one's own plane, and downward toward the lower planes. This means that one can pour out one's Love to the animals, but that no one should be governed thereby. Many people are controlled by their love for animals—they are responding to animals, and each one goes in the direction of his Response. It is well that the animal should have a Love Response to the human being, and the human being should have a Love Radiance to the animal.
