Angels Passionately Love The Word

Angels  Passionately  Love  The  Word

from  Increasing Spiritual Usefulness

Martin Cecil   May 20, 1979

We all find ourselves in a human nature world, and right from the start we are in a graveyard spin. It may take up to a hundred years to hit the ground, but still the crash seems to be inevitable. The first step, as I was careful to point out this morning, is to let go; but that is only the first step. In fact most of the service this morning was given to a consideration of what was necessary to extend direction and control into our worlds. There must be the generation of the required substance so that it is available to fill our worlds. We ourselves, in the external sense, are in the world also. We certainly cannot fill our worlds unless there is plenty of substance present in our own experience. In fact our worlds are contained within our experience, aren't they? We may have the habit of thinking of our worlds as being out there somewhere, but at the same time we know very well, if we pause to consider the matter, that they are inside here; they are within the range of our consciousness, in other words.

If we had no consciousness we would have no world, even though it might be said to exist quite apart from our consciousness; but insofar as we are concerned we are only aware of that world by reason of our consciousness and the fact that we have consciousness. Our world is contained within that consciousness; and from our standpoint as individuals it is not out there, it is right where we are. What happens within our own consciousness obviously affects what is happening in the world which is contained in our consciousness. We cannot handle any world out there—if it is out there—we can only handle it because it is in here, contained in our own consciousness. If our own consciousness is filled with spiritual substance then our world begins to be immersed in that substance, and we are not imagining that we have somehow to pump it out there into some mythical world which we suppose exists out there. The only one we know exists is the one right where we are, in our own consciousness. Let's be concerned with this, letting our world be filled with spiritual substance, because this is what we generate within the scope of our own consciousness. If it fills our consciousness sufficiently it will at the same time fill and enfold our worlds which are contained in our consciousness, and the world is transformed in this way.

We have a habit established which makes us imagine a state of separation, where one may consider oneself to be here and everything else is there. Isn't that the way your consciousness has worked? How do you know it is there? It is in your consciousness and that is the only place where we can handle it even if it is there. So our concern is with the generation of substance by reason of our living, that direction and control may be given to the worlds in our consciousness. On this basis the worlds in our consciousness begin to change, as you have already discovered. Something has changed in our own consciousness and it is this that is the important thing. We stop being so all-fired concerned about what is happening with everybody else, because if we have everybody else out there, there is nothing we can do about it; but if everybody else is contained in our own consciousness then there is something we can do about it. We speak of spiritual expression in our living. We are aware of our living not as something external to ourselves but as something that is contained in our own consciousness.

We recognize the necessity of letting there be spiritual expression in this world

for which we are responsible in our own consciousness.

It becomes a tremendous task if we think of that great world out there. Regardless of whether it is out there or not, it certainly is present in your own consciousness; and we can handle what is present in our own consciousness. We need to be above it to handle it. If we are below it, we are pushed around by it; we jump by reason of what is happening in our own consciousness. We have some experience of spiritual expression already, a little anyway—that if this is your actual expression in living, it does have an effect. This is a radiant action occurring and it has effect upon what is contained in the world of your own consciousness. There are some who are delighted to begin to experience this spiritual expression as it comes to bear upon themselves—they respond, they are willing to move in closer. They are beginning to discover the newness of the world which is being made new by your spiritual expression. There are others who don't do that. They object perhaps; they begin to fight and struggle. We just continue to offer steadfast spiritual expression, allowing those who are present in our consciousness to make their own decisions. There are those, the vast majority as it has been heretofore, who halt between two opinions. Our concern is to become so expert in spiritual expression that there is an intensification of the substance in our consciousness and therefore in our world—to the point where it becomes so hot that everybody begins to feel it, even if they are halting between two opinions.

We are concerned with this matter of spiritual expression. We recognize that the real value is here. Our value individually is the extent of the substance that is present with us through which spiritual expression is in action, and it is that spiritual expression in action which is our value. Most are inclined to imagine that their value is a physical or material value. If one has particular expertise in any field in the external sense the person is inclined to pin his value on that. That may be a treasure on earth but it is not the treasure in heaven. The treasure in heaven is the spiritual expression which is the fact: the ability to handle what is present of one's world in one's own consciousness from a spiritual standpoint, developing spiritual expertise, or letting it come forth from where it already is. We don't have to develop it in the sense of the way that external expertise is developed. The expertise, spiritually speaking, is already present in the truth of oneself. All it needs to do is to emerge into expression. That emergence into expression brings with it the sense of value. One becomes aware of one's own value and one is not looking for value anymore. One is not trying to extract value from the circumstances or from one's expertise in the circumstances.

This may be seen also with respect to the matter of youth and age in the external sense. Young people are very often, and naturally should be, energetic physically speaking and capable of doing many things physically speaking that their elders may not be able to do anymore. If one's value is placed in what one can do externally one will lose value as one grows older, and this fundamentally is what has happened in society in general. There is a mandatory retirement age of sixty-five in some countries, and I think amongst our own emissary population this very firmly established outlook is maintained, both from the standpoint of those who have reached age sixty-five or over and from the standpoint of those who observe the ones who have reached this mandatory retirement age where they have no more value seemingly. Value is in spiritual expression, not in what you can do physically. What you can do physically may determine somewhat the nature of your spiritual expression, but young people in a general sense have less spiritual substance available for spiritual expression than older people. This is why it was indicated in the story about the changing of the water to wine, that the good wine was left to the end of the feast, because there is rightly far more substance after age sixty-five than before that age. But as everyone has the habit of placing value upon what one may do in a physical sense, it seems as though most of the value is in youth and it is all lost when you get older, which is absolute nonsense.

Most people tend to be spiritually lazy. Sometimes the endeavor to cover up spiritual laziness causes frenetic physical activity and the person does so much—but his physical activity is just a cover-up for his spiritual laziness. There has been a tendency amongst many who have been associated with this ministry, getting older, to take the attitude that they gave their good years to this ministry and they provided a lot and offered a lot over the years, and now is the time to … what? Retire? That is a cop-out. That is a cop-out! That is a revelation of spiritual laziness. Spiritual activity, where the real value is, can emerge much more fully as there is less capacity perhaps for physical activity. The physical activity has to some extent been covering up the fact that there was or was not spiritual activity, and when the physical activity gets out of the way we find out what the fact is.

We all start out young, you know. “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth,” so that you do not fool yourself into imagining that by physical activity you are somehow proving spiritual worth. I am not saying that spiritual worth may not be present when physical activity is present—it needs to be. But let us just stop fooling ourselves. If there is spiritual activity the nature of the physical activity will reveal the fact, in some measure at least; but let us be very sure that we do not persist with spiritual laziness, so that when we grow older we suddenly find out how worthless we are, and we excuse ourselves at that point by saying, “Well I did so much in the past.” That was fine, wonderful, if you did something, but what are you doing now? The only time we have is now. There is this necessity, regardless of age, of generating spiritual substance and of participating in spiritual expression, and in the handling of our worlds from the standpoint of spiritual expression, of knowing how to do it. What we are here to do requires spiritual expression.

Of course there is always a starting point with respect to these things, which should have occurred for us long ago: that of letting go. Then we found the basic level where we could trust. There is a level of substance back of the whole universe that connects the dimensional creation with the undimensional Creator. It is always there. We become acquainted with that but we don't stay there. If you stay there you become absolutely worthless—no reason for a human being to be there. The universe will get along very well without human beings at that level; they are not necessary at all. But there is something to be done in the intensification of the substance so that there may be a rising up in the experienced expression of spirit to the levels where human beings should be, and that experience does not come on the basis of laziness spiritually speaking, obviously. It is a very sad thing when people getting older feel that they must have some external activity to convince them of their continuing usefulness. We should all be sure that there has been sufficient development and generation of substance so that we may be useful spiritually speaking. That usefulness should be far more as a person gets older—it should constantly increase. It should increase because the angel comes forth in more intense expression and something is happening in consciousness—the world is being filled with the substance of life—transformation occurs.

Let us never write ourselves off, and let us never write other people off simply on the basis of the fact that they have spent a few more years on earth than we have. From my own personal standpoint, there are many things that I cannot do now that I used to do when I was younger, but I certainly do not take the attitude that because of that I am becoming more and more useless. This unfoldment of years has provided space for the increasing generation of substance through which the greater intensity of spiritual expression may emerge. Are you going to leave that in my hands alone? I rejoice in the substance that is being generated regardless of age, particularly by various ones, but how much there really could be if there had been less spiritual laziness on the part of those who are now growing older. I emphasize the point, because it is never too late! And I do see some evidences here and there of a resurgence of an awareness of real meaning. We all need to be on hand as long as we are needed to be on hand, and really on hand, spiritually speaking, with the substance and the ability to handle the creative action that is necessary. From my standpoint the older people have far more responsibility in this than the younger people. I am delighted if there are young people who are going to grow up fast spiritually speaking, so that they are increasingly capable of handling what needs to be handled; but rightly the wine of life gets better as the years go by. There is the greater expression of it, but not in the same way as it was in youth. It is not physical activity that makes anything valuable; it is spiritual activity, and age has no actual ability to suppress spiritual activity. Here are some things that a lot of people need to think about, all of us in fact, whatever our physical age may be.

Blame, criticism, all these sorts of human nature attitudes, cease to have any meaning whatsoever once there is a recognition that one is dealing with the world within one's own state of consciousness and one is dealing with it on the basis of the working of the Law. Radiation, response: it will all sort itself out on this basis. We don't need to blame anyone in our worlds for taking some particular attitude which we think is wrong. Just continue to allow the expression of spirit to move freely in the substance which is present in your consciousness. Of course you have to keep generating the substance so that the substance of enfoldment, the substance of protection, the substance of this creative action, is available there. Then there may be action as needed, and there will be reaction to that action. The more substance there is present, and the more intense that substance is in one's consciousness, the more reaction there will be. That reaction may be what we call response or it may be what we call opposition, and as we see the temperature being raised there is less and less room for anything to hold out. It is going to go one way or the other.

Here is the creative process, the restoration, the cleansing of human consciousness, our own in particular, that that capacity may be filled with a new state of consciousness—angelic consciousness, the true consciousness of man. As the creative process is allowed to work and sort everything out this occurs quite easily. The yoke is easy and the burden is light when we are standing where we belong, where we have assumed responsibility for the worlds that are present in our consciousness. We are going to handle these worlds from the standpoint of spiritual expression and our spiritual consciousness. We know, we understand, what is needful in the enfoldment of our worlds. We say primarily that is love, and we have some of that to offer if in the acceptance of the responsibility of angels we behave like angels.

Angels passionately love the Word of the Lord. They passionately fulfil the first great commandment. This is angelic function. This is the attitude of angels. The angel already loves the Lord passionately, and if we agree with that then we find ourselves associated with that angelic attitude and that angelic expression.

We find ourselves at a new level of experience. We have emerged out of the level where the transformation is occurring, namely in the world in our consciousness; and we stand above that world in the consciousness of the angel, enfolding that world, intensifying the substance that is present, so that the transformation may occur. And we know very well that in that transformation there will be a certain amount of suffering. Seeing that it is in our own consciousness, that relates to something that we experience, doesn't it? But we know what it is that is happening and we stand at a level where what is happening is actually below us, even though it is within the range of our experience. We wouldn't be much use in accomplishing anything if what we were to accomplish was outside the range of our experience. It is inside the range of our experience; therefore we can be useful there and can accomplish what needs to be accomplished.

This process is a process of transformation by which what is responding is raised up and what is opposing is cast down, until all that can be raised up has been raised out of the level of the old world, the world where human beings suffer. There is a new heaven and a new earth, the angelic world, the world of angelic heavenly substance which now has so permeated the old world that there isn't any old world left. The first heaven and the first earth are passed away. Then there is the experience of the reality of the new heaven and the new earth, for the former things have passed away and man is restored to the level where he belongs, which is not at the level of the transformation. The transforming process causes suffering if there is self-consciousness at that level. There is not supposed to be self-consciousness at that level. Human beings have insisted upon it. Now we are providing the facility by which the transformation may occur and whatever responds may be lifted up to the level in human form where it belongs. The former things are passed away. There was no more pain. There was no more death. There was no more sorrow or crying. Certainly quite impossible in this human nature world! But we are interested in letting that world pass away, that the world where man belongs may be present again and man in it, extending the creative blessing of whatever is necessary for the transformation which occurs in the world where he no longer is. What is at the level of transformation should not have self-consciousness—then there is no trouble. So we rise up and provide what is necessary for the worlds contained in our consciousness to rise up with us, and what will not rise up with us is left behind. Simple.

Once again we have had the opportunity of considering some things within the substance that is available to us here this evening, handling what has emerged of our worlds in the way that this needed to be handled. As we have willingly allowed it to occur in our own consciousness we have participated in the process by which transformation of the world occurs. We need to become very familiar with this so that we do not duck out but let it be a reality consistently in all our living, because our world is not going to go away from our consciousness. You may say it slips out when you go to sleep at night. I don't think it really does. It is still there. You have a hint that it is there sometimes, don't you? You get to dreaming. No, we have a constant responsibility here, and because we know something in this connection we have that responsibility. Woe unto those who try to shuck it off! So let us continue in the way, letting all things work together to perfection as the transformation occurs and all things are thereby made new.

Angelic Core Archangelic Achievement

Angelic  Core

Archangelic  Achievement

Martin Cecil  April 4, 1979  Assembly

The most vital part of our ministry is the core of it. Unless there is a core, a sound, solid core, no sound, solid ministry can emerge. Everything that we are here to accomplish is dependent upon the fact of this core. We all need to have a very keen awareness of this fact and also of the nature of the core, so that we may individually be in position to play our proper parts. Obviously there is a core for this ministry, which has allowed the ministry to develop to the point which it has. All of you who are here present have in some measure been playing a part in that core. The core is not related to a particular geographical position. There are geographical positions related to the core. We need to see this in this fashion so that we don’t merely think of a core as being, for instance, Sunrise Ranch. This particular geographical position relates to the core. All those who are present on Sunrise Ranch are not necessarily a part of the essential core. We have to understand that this core is something like an onion. There are layers. The onion has a core, but the onion may be seen as being a core for something larger—using this as an illustration, it gives indication of the nature of the core.

We have a particular opportunity together during this month, to allow the development of a specific core pattern. This specific core pattern is at the center of things if for no other reason than that I myself am present. We share the responsibility of this core, first of all the development of it so that we may gain understanding experience with respect to the reality of the core which is necessary for the achievement of the Divine Purpose. What I have illustrated of the primary and secondary creative triangles relates to the core and to the development of the core.

The core itself, in this particular area of responsibility which is held by what we call this ministry, is a core composed of angels. Only when it is an Angelic Core does it have the meaning that it needs to have. We can look around the world and we can see cores of various sorts in the human sense. Nothing operates without such a core. We see this in terms of the working of the One Law. There is the positive core and the negative surround of the core—positive radiation, negative response. Of course, within the core itself there is positive radiation, negative response—the same principles which operate in the great whole operate also in the core. It is because of this that the core has a connection with the great whole. It’s not an isolated little core somehow that is a law unto itself. It is part of the working of the Law, and the Law works in the core; it works beyond the core, but it’s the same law.

So we are sharing in the development of a particular core, for a particular purpose. We may not at the moment with our conscious minds comprehend what the purpose is, other than in general terms. We know we are concerned, together with many others, with the restoration of human beings to the state of man, so we have an awareness of purpose here. But the particular aspect of that purpose which comes to focus in this core we do not know until it reveals itself to us by reason of the fact that there is a core. It is not a matter of theorizing about something; it’s a matter of discovering what the fact is, and the fact cannot be discovered except as there is the reality of the core present. Then we begin to understand the core and the particular purpose of the core in this special formation.

So here we are together, letting this core be developed by angels. And we ourselves have to assume the position of angels even though there may be those elements still present in our human consciousness which are inclined to deny the angel. The denial of the angel—I’m not talking about waving a flag or something and saying, “Well I deny the angel!” But what actually happens in daily living? You are aware that sometimes the angel is denied in this fashion—the expression which appears in the moment is not that of the angel. We may be willing to acknowledge this and still assume the stance of the angel—in other words, when such a thing occurs, there is the opportunity for rebuke, for one thing, an instant acceptance of responsibility with respect to whatever the human nature expression was. “The Lord rebuke thee; get thee hence, Satan.”

In the story of the temptations in the wilderness, satan certainly put in an appearance. Of course the usual picture of it is that he was some sort of entity other than the Master, but of course it was all occurring within the range of the Master’s own experience. There was a testing out of the quality and nature of the human consciousness at that point—and where human consciousness is, human nature certainly hangs around; satan puts in an appearance and must be dealt with one way or another. We have a very excellent outline of the proper way to handle a situation in the way the Master dealt with satan in the temptations, so-called. They were not temptations to Him. But nevertheless satan was there, human nature was there, put in an appearance, had something to say, but was told without any equivocation where it should go. Well we need to have this angelic attitude whenever satan puts in an appearance.

Now I’m speaking of this more particularly about satan putting in an appearance in our own personal expression. You may observe satan putting in an appearance, as you think at least, in someone else; but for the moment our concern is with our own expression. We are taking responsibility for this, that there might be the emergence of a particular core—a particular core which is synonymous with this Assembly, a core in which certain things are to happen and certain things to be achieved—not only within the core itself but, because these things are being achieved within the core itself, the achievement is thereby being extended beyond into the area which is being centered by this core. If the core remains passive nothing happens—well, obviously nothing is happening beyond it. The mere fact of position, then, means nothing. And here we come back to the tendency in human nature to be position-conscious, so that there is the thought that if one is somehow claiming position, that something thereby is happening. On that basis the only thing that is happening is destructive, because we don’t claim position. We simply provide it in the natural angelic expression which makes the formation of this core possible.

The core is a core of angels. Obviously, within the core then, our experience is properly Angel to Angel. Such an experience is quite different to the concepts that have been present in many Emissary minds about server and servee, focalizer and focalizee. Such a relationship is necessary when there is to be the development of the angelic experience, but once there is the angelic experience that necessity no longer prevails and we function on an entirely different basis—Angel to Angel. This step has been made or experienced by very few—almost everything continues to be looked at on the basis of a prior concept of focalization. Another analogy in this regard is the parent-child state of affairs. Those who are coming back to the angelic experience must, to start with, come as little children. This was emphasized by the Master when he was on earth. It is a requirement that one come as a little child, because in fact, spiritually speaking, that is what everybody in the human nature world actually is. So there must be the acknowledgment of the fact—one must get down to basics and be honest, and not pretend anymore that one is mature when he is not.

I would touch on this matter of maturity for a moment. This is always thought of in terms of growth: we’re going to grow into maturity. Who’s going to grow into maturity? The angel is mature already. Certainly, if we begin to accept the fact of our angelic nature we at the same time accept the fact that we do not need to grow. The angel is already mature. There is no necessity to become mature—there is no growth involved insofar as the angel is concerned. What appears to be growth toward maturity in the human view is properly the emergence of the angel into increased expression by reason of the human facility. That increased expression of the angel gives the effect of growth in the human facility—the human facility is in fact changing to allow for the expression of the angel. The human facility is not really maturing, but the angel is mature and reveals that maturity with increased effect as there is the expression emerging through the human facility. We do not emphasize, then, the human facility in this situation. The emphasis is on the emergence of the angel. The angel in expression is mature, and when the angel is in expression on earth, that is the evidence of maturity made manifest. But it wasn’t a maturity that has been grown into; it was a maturity that already existed. It merely becomes evident, that’s all. This changes the consciousness from one of anticipating a laborious growth, which is going to be very painful and difficult and will take years, to a recognition that the maturity is a reality now, in this present moment. We don’t need to go anywhere, grow into larger people somehow, in order to experience it. It is present already. So our concern is to accept into expression what is already mature.

Angel to Angel — this is the experience

We are mature as angels, and we handle our mutual responsibilities as angels with maturity. This experience is not something that has been widely known in the Emissary world. It has been very largely hung up in the childish state, where there was a parent, or a schoolteacher, or some authority or other, doling out what was required to the children. Well, there is the necessity for dealing with children to start with, because the only way that anyone can come is as a spiritual child. One will never find a spiritually mature person in the human nature world. There are those who claim to be adults—maybe we’ve made the claim ourselves—but it wasn’t true. You can’t find a mature person in the human nature world, because maturity requires spiritual maturity. When there is spiritual maturity—when the angel is in expression—then everything else will be mature.

So we find ourselves as a core of angels who are now mature. We deal with each other on this basis. One is not assuming any position. We don’t need any position. We’re already in it as angels, whatever it is. Insofar as we are concerned, manifest here on earth, our position is in the moment. Whatever is required in the moment, that we do. So as long as we’re doing that we’re always in position, but that position is incapable of being defined by the human mind. It simply is known by the angel. It is the experience, one’s own experience as an angel. One is always in position, and one doesn’t need to think about it—one doesn’t need to say, “Well, what is my position?” This is a question that is often asked by by human nature: “What is my position?” The position of human nature is solely to allow the expression of the angel to appear on earth. That’s the only position it has. If it’s not doing that it doesn’t have any position, and it soon proves out that it doesn’t have any position. We can see these are actual matters. We’re not trying to believe some fanciful idea. The thing is in front of us all the time.

So we have this angelic association. Now the angels who are present do not know how this association is going to emerge in fact, because it is dependent upon so many factors. It is dependent upon the human facilities of all concerned, for one thing; but it is dependent on far more than that, because in the human sense we are connected up with a large world beyond us, and what is present in this large world beyond us cannot be ignored. It’s there and it has to be handled. It is handled by reason of the fact that we have these human facilities. But the way what needs to emerge may emerge will be dependent upon all these various factors. The angel is quite capable of handling whatever it is that appears, so there is no problem about it—but it cannot be pre-cast, so to speak. You don’t know ahead of time; the angel doesn’t know ahead of time. What was it the Master said in that regard, about the particular fulfillment toward which he was pointing? “No man knoweth, not even the angels in heaven.” All right, let’s not be so concerned about the fact that we may not know certain things. Let’s not assume that because we do not know certain things that we do not have the experience of the angel. There are certain things that the angel does not know. If in angelic consciousness we knew everything, how dull it would be! We knew what was coming, we knew everything—well why bother? No, we don’t know. It’s exciting, it’s an adventure. This is part of the whole creative process. This is a part of the experience of God. We are delighted to move in such exalted circles.

But you can sense the difference between this angelic association and the usual association that has been known in Emissary circles, where there has been a looking up to the server. Here was the parent, and I’m the little child. “Please instruct me and help me, and I’m going to rebel when my emotions get out of control a little, because I’m just a child, you know. I can’t help it.” The fact is that within the scope of this ministry there are a lot of retarded children, children who have refused to grow up. They have accepted the original experience as though it was the final experience—the original experience of being a child and having someone to respond to, having someone to provide all the necessities—no need to take real responsibility for oneself: the meals are put on the table, the bed is made, everything is prepared—as children. Well this may be all right for children; they need to learn that there is something dependable in the way of a parent. The parent needs to provide the evidence of that dependability, stability, and honesty, consistency of expression, if the child is to grow in the right way, is to be led forth in the right way—but being led forth, the child doesn’t stay in that situation forever. The child is supposed to mature and take responsibility for its own expression. Rightly this does not cause a cleavage in the family pattern. It allows for the expansion of the family pattern. Of course, in the human world the family sort of flies off in all directions, and maybe they have a get-together now and again. The get-togethers are often fraught with conflict, disagreement, and probably all concerned can only stand it for about one day a year.

Our concern is not to fly off in all directions and become isolated, but to allow the expansion of what we have referred to as the family experience, which is the experience of mature people, and that is the experience of angels. So we, in angelic association, begin to lose the external relatednesses that were before considered to be so important. These are very important to a child: father and mother, brothers and sisters—the titular unit in which the child feels secure. That is necessary in the development, that there might be a greater sense of security known. But let it not be assumed that that sense of security is there by reason of the parent-child relationship. It is there because there are angels present. The angels need to emerge through the children, in order that there may be maturity. If the angel doesn’t mature through the child, then we have a retarded child; and while I’ve related that to what has occurred with respect to many within the range of our ministry, it certainly has occurred with respect to all those who are outside of the range of our ministry—retarded children. The world is run by retarded children. No wonder that it’s in a mess! Of course they don’t see themselves as retarded children. They have the ridiculous imagination that they are adult, and capable therefore of handling all these responsibilities.

We begin to see a different picture. There are two requirements with respect to angels in expression on earth. One of them is association with other angels in the particular relationships that are essential for the Archangelic achievement. We may see this now in terms of the core pattern which is to be experienced. That is one proper responsibility of angels—the primary one, in actual fact, because nothing can be achieved without it. The other one is the relationship of angels to humans. The human being is the child; the angel is the parent; and for a while, then, the parent is responsible for the child in a very direct sense, to care for its needs, to love and to provide all that is essential for the development of that child—but not so that the child might become a superchild, but that there might be a constantly increasing emergence of the angel by reason of that facility, which will then be no longer childish. It will stay childish as long as the angel doesn’t emerge. This is why I say there are so many retarded children around. The angel has never been allowed to emerge.

What a rational world it is when the intelligence of angels provides the means by which the world is governed. The world governed by irrational, retarded children is bound to be a horror. The world becomes a place that bears scarcely any resemblance at all to the real world. And of course the retarded children suffer in that state. God is not willing that any should perish, but it requires that people grow up. I suppose you could say that one of the interpretations of the word repentance is grow up. Stop being childish. Repent from staying in the childish state. The only way to come out of it is to permit the angel to emerge into expression at the level of human consciousness, where everybody has been functioning. If the angel emerges where everybody has been functioning, everybody experiences the angel. So we see these two aspects of the angelic ministry on earth. The first requires the Angelic Core to develop, a family core which is not composed of parents and children. It’s composed of mature people, actual people—us!—mature people who have a relatedness to each other based in whatever it is that is to be achieved according to the fulfillment of Divine Purpose. This is the sole concern of angels. We already have certain patterns of relatedness between the human aspects of these incarnate angels. All right, that’s the way it is—married couples for instance—whatever it is, is for angelic use—blessed singleness. In any case, there are certain relationships between the people concerned; but it isn’t those relationships that are the important thing. It’s the relationships of the angels concerned.

Now almost all human relationships were based in how one human felt toward another human, one child felt toward another child—puppy love, very often. That’s all it is; it’s all it can be. It is perhaps an experience for children, but it needs to be relinquished if one is ever to mature. It is this puppy-love state that is so popular in the world. Oh, we love this which we call love! It isn’t anything really to be taken so seriously—it’s something that is natural to children perhaps—but it shouldn’t be seized upon so that the individual won’t grow out of the puppy-love state. He insists upon remaining a child, in other words. The only way one can discover mature relationships is in the expression of the angel. And those mature relationships are not anymore based in the likes and dislikes of the human nature state of consciousness. They are based in what is necessary for the fulfillment of the purpose for which the angel is incarnate on earth. There is a totally different approach to all the things that human beings think they know about, and think they are going to enjoy, and think perhaps that they’re going to bring some sort of fulfillment. These things never do—they never can. The fulfillment is already a reality when the angel emerges, and there is no need to set up a system of relationships in order to experience fulfillment.

The association of angels is already a fact

How this is going to emerge in human form is a question. If the angel is present and in expression, it will emerge in order to allow these various configurations to achieve the Divine Purpose, and they’re not there so as to please the human being. It is very pleasing to the angel, because the one thing that pleases the angel is to achieve the Divine Purpose. Therefore anything that allows this to be so is accepted with rejoicing, and the experience is one of creativeness; and the experience of creativeness is what human beings call happiness--of course, a very distorted experience insofar as human nature is concerned. Happiness doesn’t come by acquiring things, whether those things are money or a mate or whatever the individual imagines would bring fulfillment. Fulfillment comes by reason of the expression of the angel—full and free. And that brings with it all the angelic associations that are necessary to do what needs to be done.

We may see this in terms of this Assembly. If this Assembly is put together now on the basis of the fact that we are all here present in person by the emergence of the angel through each one, then we can see that this is an association of angels. You’ve all been brought here. Our human equipment has been brought along because the angel came along, and the human equipment sits down in that chair because the angel says, “Sit down in that chair!” Perhaps angelically it’s not put just in this way, but that is the way it works. So we are here in a configuration of angels with human facilities—most essential—in order that the angelic expression might appear as it should in this core, to achieve what is necessary, because it is all connected up because of our human facilities with the rest of the world.

So we have a little core here for a specific angelic purpose—the Lord’s purpose. We are here to find out how this purpose may be achieved in a specific sense. We know what the general purpose is: the restoration of man. Okay, here we have a little core which is to achieve a certain aspect of that overall fulfillment during this time. And we are going to find out how that is to be done. We don’t know ahead of time, because we have not been able to prognosticate all the factors that are going to be present in the external sense, but we sense, as angels, that we are quite capable of handling whatever those factors may prove to be—and we will find out what they are as we move along. I trust that we will handle them effectively as we do move along together, by reason of our association as angels. We see our association as angels as being paramount to us. This is more important to us than any of the temptations which may arise in the wilderness—in other words in the external sense, any of the things that may come into the range of our awareness brought there by satan, brought there by human nature consciousness. We may see these things, just as the Master saw what the devil was bringing him in the temptations in the wilderness. He saw what they were. We are all aware of them when they arise. But being conscious as angels, just as the Master was, we deal with the thing right there. We know what must control.

One of the central factors in the development of our core here is control—that control may be extended. Control is extended because control is experienced. You can’t extend anything, you can’t give anything, that you are not experiencing. This is why it seemed to be a little difficult to inspire response, perhaps, in some, because you were trying to deliver something that was not your experience. We have a very wide range of possessions, shall we say, spiritual possessions, but it isn’t a matter of doling these out. They won’t be of much value to anyone. The value is when these possessions become what we are. Then what we offer is genuine, and children respond to the genuine. Children spot phonies when they are adults. They don’t so easily spot phonies when they are other children. And this is the situation, isn’t it, in the human world? Human beings are all the time being taken down the garden path. More and more laws are made so as to prevent people from being taken down the garden path—at least this is the idea. It doesn’t, of course, because they’ll find new and better ways of being taken down the garden path. Perhaps it is better for people to be led down the garden path so that they find out that that’s what is happening. Maybe they will wake up. If they are all swaddled around with wool, they never learn. We see this with respect to growing children. You can’t keep them so protected that they never get hurt. They need to be hurt. We all need to be hurt. There is nothing wrong with being hurt. It’s one of the most valuable things, and I think you will look back and recognize the fact perhaps, that the times of hurt and trouble and stress, and all the uncomfortable things that happened, were the most valuable in our lives, and when anything went along smoothly we began to rot. So, humanly speaking, we need to be hurt in order to wake us up. This is true of everybody. Of course it’s sort of getting out of hand in the world. It certainly is something that human beings have brought on their own heads, and maybe there are those who will wake up because of it.

Now, if we are angels we find that we are capable in ways that we were certainly not capable merely in the human sense. And one of these things relates to the capacity to encompass. People trying to be good find that there are all too many whom they can’t encompass. With many it has been a very, very narrow little range. Everybody else was excluded. Well we’re not here to be exclusive. We are here to welcome everybody Home—and home is Heaven, isn’t it? Who is going to welcome everybody Home to Heaven if not the angel? The angel can do it. The human can’t. Humanly speaking it is impossible to encompass everybody—angelically speaking we can. Angelically speaking we are keenly aware that human beings are very much the same. Human nature is human nature. It has little different casts, little bit of colorations here, differences there, but it is all human nature—and from that standpoint we feel entirely capable of encompassing what needs to be encompassed in anyone. And fundamentally what needs to be encompassed in anyone is response, but that response will come in different ways through different people.

Very often there are those who are intimidated by this or that in human nature, by some great human nature achievement—everybody is kowtowing to this human nature achievement. Well we are not interested in the human nature achievement, we are not really trying to encompass that. We are seeking to encompass whatever of response is in that person who, in human nature, may have achieved this or that. We are capable, as angels, of encompassing what is right, what is encompassable from the standpoint of heaven. And we are not intimidated by human nature achievement. Some people are very clever mentally speaking, and their minds can do all sorts of things that perhaps the duller ones of us cannot do. From that human standpoint, I have been thankful that my mind is not all that brilliant in the human nature sense. I was, what shall we say, mediocre in school. There may have been various reasons for that, mind you, but not from that standpoint at all in the upper range. But the mind is as brilliant as it needs to be on the basis of angelic expression, and on that basis we are capable of encompassing what needs to be encompassed.

We encompass response. This does not mean that we exclude what is not. Because if we did that we would exclude virtually everybody, because, no matter who it is, there is lots that is not response. So we do not try to encompass what should not be encompassed, but we are able to encompass the person, because that person originates in the angel. There is always the angel present, and we are acquainted as angels. There may be seeming conflict human to human. Well, we can take one human at least out of the picture. So there doesn’t need to be any conflict. As they say, it takes two to have a battle. Well if there is only one, then of course that one must fight himself if he is to find an antagonist. And this is what human beings do. You may have noted that from your standpoint, that very often people in contending with you, as they think, are only in fact contending with their own concepts of what it is that you represent, or what it is you are associated with. But it is entirely in their own consciousness and they are battling with this. Well let them battle with it; they’ll wear themselves out after a while. You do not need to get into a battle. That would be foolishness and futile, because they are fighting with shadows. They are not fighting with anything that is fact. So we let people exhaust themselves if they wish to, on that basis, and we play our part in encompassing all that rightly needs to be encompassed in a person, so that they may begin to feel something that is welcoming them home. They won’t know what it is or where they’re going, what it’s all about, but those whom you encompass in this fashion begin to feel that they are close to home.

I suppose our slogan is, with respect to all who are willing in this regard—Welcome Home! And so we share this together in our core focus, extending, as angels in angelic function, this invitation, Welcome home! As angels we experience mature love one for another—this is the natural state—and we extend love, true love, enfoldment, encompassment, to the children.

Angel To Angel

Angel  To  Angel

Martin Cecil  April 3, 1979  Assembly

Thinking is a spiritual process. What is called thinking in the world would certainly be classified as a mental process because the mind is involved, therefore it is presumed to be a mental process. Obviously there are mental things going on, but in thinking the spirit is rightly dominant. If you approach anything about which you wish to think merely on a mental basis it becomes a struggle. Sweat of the face is involved. “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” I trust that during the sessions that we share together we will participate in some thinking.

We think together. This is an exercise that may be useful and should be more or less natural to you when you participate in a service. Sometimes a person after a service will say, “I can’t remember what it was about.” If I say that, well that perhaps is more excusable, because I have been moving along in the current of the spirit, moment by moment, giving expression to what is needful in the moment. You are, on the other hand, hearing what is being said. You are presumably moving in the current of the spirit too, but you have an awareness, if you are functioning correctly, of what went before. You see what is emerging in the moment. Remember, the mind is quite capable of moving more quickly than the words that are spoken. Some have found difficulty in this because in the very nature of things there may be pauses in the speaking. There are various reasons for this. You yourselves know something of the reasons from the standpoint of your own participation in speaking at times; but those to whom you are speaking are present during those pauses. The question is: What is the mind doing then? The mind is inclined to go chasing after rabbits, in those intervals—what is said reminds a person of something else and something else, and away he goes. But we need to stay to point. We need to be on hand.

There is an opportunity then, without losing one’s focus in the moment, of reviewing what went before, so that you are aware of what it is that is unfolding. You may perhaps see this as a useful exercise from the standpoint of any comment you are going to make later, because you recall what it was that unfolded during the hour, you see it as a whole. It is connected up in your consciousness all the way through to the final word—because, as opportunity presents itself, when your mind, which would otherwise be inclined to follow out extraneous lines of thought, is brought back into the movement of the current of the spirit as it has been unfolding during the hour, you have it all at your fingertips when the last word is spoken. It hasn’t just vanished into the limbo of forgotten things and you only remember it when it comes again in a video or in printed form. “Oh, I didn’t see that before.” Well, there may be new things to see; presumably we keep moving anyway—but at the time that the service was given you have been with it then, if you have kept it all connected up in your own consciousness. This requires a bit of work and you need to be an obedient servant to do the work.

There are those who have done this and they are in very excellent position to recall easily what was in the service. You may have been amazed sometimes at such ones who have seemingly this ability. I think perhaps Bill Bahan is one who can lay his hand on a service which is pertinent to some particular need. Do you think he is able to do this because he never thought about the service? It isn’t so much thinking about it subsequently as thinking about it at the time that is being given, so that you are conscious of the wholeness of it and you are not merely skipping from point to point in an unrelated fashion, so that all you probably have is the isolated point right at the end, unless some particular statement struck your fancy along the way and you tucked that away neatly in your memory. But still, what has been happening is important and you can utilize opportunities as they arise during a service to pick up what went before and bring it into the present moment so that you have it all there, available in your consciousness. This is an exercise—it will stretch your muscles a little to do it, but it keeps you in point, it keeps you from wandering, and it keeps you from chasing rabbits. What was it that was said? And how does what was said back there relate to what came next? And how does what came next relate to what came after that? And how does what came after that relate to what is being said now? And you have it all together in an awareness of wholeness. Perhaps some of you have done this, but it will sharpen up your mental muscles and you may perhaps find it, to begin with, to be a little difficult or a little tiring, but keep at it and you will in due season have an obedient servant rather than this unruly mind which is scattered all over the place while it thinks that it is present in the present moment, when it is just perceiving the present moment in isolation. The present moment is not in isolation from what went before, nor from what is coming next, for that matter. It is all part of a flow, and if we are to move in the current of the spirit we need to be capable of moving with that flow. So let’s use our opportunities to exercise in this regard. This applies perhaps more particularly to a service, but there is something in this regard also with respect to our sessions.

We are sharing in letting something unfold through our collective consciousness. I have the responsibility of giving it particular focus. It would be the tower of Babel if everybody tried to give it focus at the same time. It is more convenient to have it done by one person. What I offer is not something that is my responsibility alone. You all share in the offering. Here is something that needs to be looked at—there is obviously the necessity for focalization—there is in this moment. I may give expression to something, but it is not isolated from all the rest of you. I am not interested in imposing something on you: “This is what I think you should hear and so I am going to lay it on you.” We are all angels in reality, and we all share the responsibility of letting the spirit of God find expression. We are all rightly in agreement in this regard. We share this agreement both on an individual basis, one to one; and we share it on a collective basis, all of you to me—the agreement of angels with respect to what should be emerging into expression through our individual and collective obedient servants. When we are letting this happen we are together.

Perhaps we could digress for a moment to some situation that might arise. There isn’t anything in focus yet until the situation is present. We know the theory in this regard, for instance, if you are ever required to give a service. You can’t give a service on Sunday which you have written out on the previous Thursday and succeed in providing what is necessary. This is very often done in the usual development of a sermon by the minister. He is trying to figure something out during the week that he can say on Sunday. He has it all set up and he feels confident then—he has the words and he is going to know what to say. The situation must be present for us to know what it is that should emerge. We can’t prognosticate ahead of time as to what the situation will be and therefore we cannot know what the right word would be. This doesn’t mean that we approach anything with blank minds, because there is a flow—we are moving with something. We have a consciousness of what it is that is moving, and it moved into the past; but it relates to the present moment, and there is something coming out of the future which is not yet seen. It isn’t there yet. But when something comes to focus, being in position to deal with it with a group of people, what is actually present must be taken into account.

While for effectiveness there must be a point of focus, the one who provides that point of focus properly has a whole lot of things available in his consciousness—he has everything there that has come out of the past, up to point. And this should be true of everybody else who is there. So there is this mass of substance available. All of you are present here now. Something should happen by reason of this fact now. While I have a good deal available in my consciousness, and you have a good deal available in your consciousness, all this needs to be brought together—something has to emerge through everybody. Now sometimes it emerges because this one and that one have something to say; sometimes, as in this instance, it emerges because there is some capability on my part to be perceptive of what is available in you, so that I don’t go ahead and simply impose something on you because it was available in me. There has to be a union of substance here. So it is in all our movement together in our field of creative responsibility, whatever that may be, wherever we may be. When we are functioning as angels this is our approach. Something has to emerge through all of us. It needs to be given focus somehow, but it isn’t an isolated thing which is dumped by one person upon everybody else. So we develop something together which emerges because of all of us.

Here we see something of the friendship aspect which is present by reason of angels. While there may be certain roles to be played in the particular situation, someone has to take charge of the situation, as I am doing in this moment; nevertheless it is a friendship situation. It relates to the base of a primary triangle. We are all at that level of the base. I have a part to play—you have a part to play. We have our roles but we play them as friends. As friends we have particular fields of responsibility, which may be handled because of our mutual friendship, not because someone says, “Well this is my field of responsibility, you stay out,” which is the inclination all too often. When we are working in this way we work as friends rightly. And here we come again to that base of the primary triangle, with two friends present, one at either end. They are friends in the true sense because of the apex point of that triangle to whom they both look.

Rightly in this moment, I’m sure all of you are aware that while I am speaking to you, and while we have this base here consequently, that there is the apex. We are not ignoring that. We should always be keenly aware of that High Point, not in the sense of trying to visualize someone, a picture of Jesus or something. Let’s let it be what it is without trying to place some arbitrary form upon that point. We speak of the Lord of Lords. We use those words to describe that point, but I am sure you recognize that there is really more than the Lord of Lords at that point. He is not isolated. Because human beings have attempted to isolate Him does not mean that in fact He is isolated. Human beings may have isolated themselves from Him, but there is no way by which human beings could isolate Him from His Angelic Hosts. So there is the point of the apex in this creative triangle. All is present, and while we don’t necessarily think about that point continuously, nevertheless it is always there in our awareness. As it is always there in our awareness, we realize our mutual representation of that point.

Now if we have this triangle, with these two points at the base, both points represent the Lord. However, there is another representation, isn’t there? It isn’t just a matter of representing the Lord to the world, but of representing the world to the Lord. One of these points of the base is dominantly a representation of the Lord to the world; the other is dominantly a representation of the world to the Lord. But in each case there is also present the other representation. We all represent the Lord to the world, and we all represent the world to the Lord. But in certain configurations in the creative process one or other of these roles becomes dominant. [More on that later]

As we develop a particular consciousness of friendship in this association which we have now, whatever we have known before is fine, we brought it along with us, but there is something to be known now in this association. We share in permitting that primary triangle to be established, and the essential substance of it to be generated, so that we may begin to have a substantial friendship, not just a theoretical one. Angel to Angel. The human aspect is offered the opportunity of sharing in this and it may to some extent—we will find out how much—but Angel to Angel it is there already. Insofar as our angelic approach is concerned we have particular parts to play and we are anxious to play those parts. That is the reason why we are here incarnate in these forms.
