We are here present once again in this beautiful building to offer a vessel into the hands of the LORD, that He may pour out that blessing which pleases Him this morning. The outpouring of blessing relates obviously to the action phase of the One Law. We speak of radiation. We may participate in this creative process to the extent that we have an awareness of the oneness of radiation and response, the oneness of heaven and earth. Obviously there could be no radiation in the immediate sense of our experience if there was not response present also. Radiation and response are one.
However in the creative cycle there are pulsations, pulsations somewhat analogous to the beating of the heart. There are times when the action phase of the One Law is dominant and there are other times when the reaction phase is dominant. In between there is a period of rest. Participating as we are in a service here this morning, we may recognize that the action phase should be dominant. We are here to let love radiate. Later there will be a dominance of the reaction phase of the One Law. We may see this particular cycle as relating to the period of a week, but also of course there are other cycles at work, each of them including the dominance of each aspect at the appointed times. Gradually, as one learns to discern what is actually happening in the field of our responsibility as sons and daughters of God, we may be in position to distinguish the various cycles that are occurring within the range of our own experience, so that we function intelligently in relationship to these things rather than being swept this way and that by our judgments of the appearance of events.
So we have this morning another opportunity to let the LORD pour out a blessing because we become aware of the dominance of the action phase of the One Law at work in our own experience. We may participate in this. The blessing is to be poured out, to go forth. We are assembled here presumably in a consciousness of the truth—namely the sons and daughters of God. There was a time—there is a time—when the sons and daughters of God come to present themselves before the LORD. In this collective sense this is exactly what we should be doing now. We are assembled here to present ourselves before the LORD, but as it was at the time of Job, no doubt satan comes also among us. We can identify satan by using the words human nature. Human nature is still present in this room—you all recognize this, and not merely because you notice it in someone else! But the real point is that the sons and daughters of God come to present themselves before the LORD. We're not too interested in satan, rightly; we're not going to pay too much attention to him except as it may be necessary to let him be cleared out of the way so that the blessing of the LORD may be poured out by reason of the presence of the sons and the daughters of God. In virtually all human experience in the world the way it is now the blessing of the sons and daughters of God is obscured by satan, by the fact of human nature dominant and in control, so that what comes forth through human beings is a very distorted, limited, restricted thing. It is not for the most part the blessing of the LORD.
If we begin to have a consciousness of the truth as it relates to us, so that we are aware of being present here this morning as sons and daughters of God even though there may be some human nature hanging around, then gradually there may be an intensification of this experience of radiation. I mentioned before the matter of pulsation. There is a high point when the action phase of the One Law is dominant. And this high point may be seen in relationship to our service times together, but it doesn't immediately appear the moment we move into a service on a Sunday morning such as this for instance. There is a gradual intensification, a building up, so that there may be an increased awareness of participating in the action phase of the One Law on the part of all concerned. This may not be identified as an awareness of being a son or a daughter of God, because when you participate in true radiation you forget yourself. To the extent that you have forgotten yourself in human nature you are the expression of angelic nature, or that of a son or a daughter of God. And so in a service, if we are participating in providing a vessel in the hands of the LORD, we find that there is a buildup to the point where the action phase of the One Law is obviously dominant. We forget ourselves and we move with what is moving. We are to share this experience this morning, that through the vessel which we offer, being in the hands of the LORD, a fitting blessing to this occasion may be poured out.
As this buildup occurs satan tends to recede into the background; human nature begins to be dissipated in the immediate experience of those who are participating in the buildup. However, obviously, to the extent that human nature is present in a person what occurs by reason of that person will be somewhat conditioned by the particular quality of human nature that may still remain, so that what goes forth of the blessing of the LORD is conditioned by this to some extent. And consequently it will tend to connect up with that pattern of human nature which may be present in other people in the body of mankind. The Word of the LORD goes forth to accomplish that which He pleases but the LORD necessarily has to utilize whatever is available to accomplish whatever may be possible on this basis. He is not blind to the fact of continuing human nature; however, seeing that there are those who begin to have a consciousness of the truth with respect to themselves, there is at least a starting point for actual radiation. And even though that radiation may be conditioned by human nature it is still an outpouring of blessing offered into the world.
Just as there is a dominant time with respect to the action phase of the One Law, there is also a dominant time with respect to the reaction phase. This is likely to occur later. If we really participate in the action phase now, then the reaction phase will put in an appearance with respect to the momentary factors that are present in our daily living. What goes forth goes forth throughall who are now present. What returns returns throughall who are now present. And what returns will come on the basis of the conditioning which was present when it went forth. This is something that is not usually recognized when the returning aspect of the matter puts in an appearance. The individual may be inclined to say, “Why does this have to happen to me? Why is there always this seeming repetition?” This is so because the human nature conditioning that is present in the individual has not yet been allowed to be dissolved, so the human nature seal is placed upon the radiation that goes forth and it will be present with respect to what comes back.
There is seldom recognition that the individual himself determined what it was that was going to come back, because what it is that goes forth of the blessing of the LORD will inevitably be conditioned by whatever of human nature is still present in a person. You can't just set it out on one side and say, “Well all that is going forth through me now in this service is going to be pure and perfect,” because you are there—and heaven and earth are one. The radiation-response reveals unification, so that whatever is present is present and will be a conditioning factor with respect to radiation, and therefore will be an evident factor with respect to what comes back later. If you have an awareness of this as a son or a daughter of God you are naturally willing to accept the situation as it is.
Human beings tend to rebel against things the way they are, thinking that they should be some other way. Maybe they should, but they are not. The point is, things are the way they are and a real person will accept what is really so without attempting to imagine it into some different state of affairs. So, as a son or a daughter of God there is the attitude of accepting things the way they are. And if satan happens to be present still, well that's part of the picture. In the story of Job, the LORD didn't ignore satan. The first thing He did was ask satan a question: “Whence comest thou?” And the answer was, “From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.” This is a very good portrayal of the way human nature fills human experience the world around. That's the way it is. And if we find ourselves conditioned by human nature, where does it come from? It comes from the state of mankind of which we are a part. So there is a recognition of this fact and from the divine standpoint it is taken and used to advantage. It is useless to try to work with something that isn't so. The only thing to do is to work with what is so. Human nature is so. And it is so with respect to ourselves as well as everybody else.
So we recognize that there is some conditioning of what is released in radiation when that aspect of the working of the Law is dominant, perhaps at a time such as this. Because the conditioning is thus and so according to the individual state, what goes forth, having activated whatever it should activate in the body of mankind, will return; it will return through the same person through whom it went out. So it comes back to you. They say that chickens come home to roost. Well we're happy to let the chickens come home to roost—maybe they will lay an egg! The point is that when they come home to roost we use the situation to advantage because we see what it is. Most people don't see what it is because they are all wrapped up in the appearance of things. The circumstance which arises in the individual experience is looked at simply as a circumstance all on its own and then it is judged accordingly: I don't like this circumstance, or I do like that circumstance.
We were considering this matter from the standpoint of appreciation. Whatever it is that comes back in this creative cycle needs to be appreciated for what it is, not objected to for what it isn't. It isn't merely the appearance of a circumstance; it is actually the returning aspect of the creative cycle in which one had before been participating. We need to see it as that. Then we can accept it, receive it with appreciation because it gives us an opportunity to let something clear in the matter so that what we bring back to the LORD in the completion of that cycle is as pure as it was when it went out from Him.
All too often this is not what happens. The individual reverts into his old human nature habits, so that this distorted thing is what is offered to the LORD. When this is done, of course, that human nature trait in the individual is reemphasized and is still present when the next occasion of radiation occurs. So it will go forth again, conditioned by the same thing, and it will come back conditioned by the same thing, until the individual receives it in the way it should be received. A lot of people have complained about this matter of repetition—the same things always seem to happen. “Why does it have to happen to me?” Well, because of you! For no other reason. No one has it in for you. Each person determines what his own experience shall be. And when we begin to take responsibility in the matter, recognizing that it is so, then we may behave as sons and daughters of God. We behave as sons and daughters of God insofar as the blessing that goes forth is concerned and we behave as the sons and daughters of God insofar as what comes back is concerned. Something rises up in our experience. How are we going to handle it? First of all we need to have an attitude of appreciation that it is rising up so that we may handle it. If it didn't put in an appearance we couldn't handle it. And if we couldn't handle it, let it be cleared, it would be there forever. So there is an attitude of willingness in a son or a daughter of God to receive what comes back.
There is delight to receive it because here is an opportunity to let the particular human nature conditioning that is being presented be cleared in one's own experience. And if it is cleared in your own experience the impulse of clearing then may be released insofar as others are concerned as the cycle continues to move. But if it isn't cleared you behave in the same old human nature way when the circumstance arises. Then the next time you participate in the action phase of the One Law the radiation released through you will emphasize again the same thing insofar as those in the world for whom you are responsible are concerned. You just hold people thereby in their trapped condition.
I have many times in the past pointed to the Master as a vivid example of the right way to handle such things, because certainly what ultimately came back to Him because of His acceptance of the responsibility of clearing it was far greater than is likely to come back to any of the rest of us. He accepted what came. He didn't complain about it, He didn't object to it. He had an attitude of appreciation, actually, for the opportunity that it provided to Him; not an opportunity that He needed in a personal sense—He could have well done without it in a personal sense—but because it provided Him with the means of extending a blessing absolutely clear insofar as the rest of mankind was concerned. He did this. He let it clear in Himself, and of course the evidence appeared with respect to His own experience. He undertook that, not for Himself—there was no necessity—but for the rest of humanity.
And basically that is what we do. We do not have the same position of Supreme Focus as He did but we all have our worlds for which we are responsible. And we are in position therefore to do exactly the same thing that He did, according to our respective fields of responsibility. These fields of responsibility are differentiations of His field of responsibility, which included them all. So that was a really tough thing insofar as He was concerned. But insofar as we are concerned, particularly as He has provided the focus for the clearing, it isn't really anything—the yoke is easy and the burden is light. But we need to see how the creative process operates.
Now we've been looking at it particularly with respect to what comes to focus in a service, by means of which the blessing of the LORD may be released, and then what comes back in consequence of that release. If it goes forth through all of us it comes back through all of us. And individually we have a responsibility with respect to whatever it is that comes back, because what comes back is an exact indication of what it was that went forth from us. However, it is in the returning cycle that we have the opportunity of letting something be cleared, not only for ourselves but for all those through whom this creative cycle moved as it went forth into the world. When we begin to see this as it really is, we are sharing the outlook of a son or a daughter of God and we're no longer hung up in the appearance of things. You can look at the appearance of things and try to figure it out, judge this way or that, feel justified in your judgments, but that is all nonsense; it is just a surface play, not what is really happening at all. As sons and daughters of God we begin to see what is really happening and we work with what is really happening. That is the intelligent thing to do, after all. To try to work with something that isn't really happening is futile in the end.
So we have the opportunity of participating in these creative cycles. We've taken a look at one particular one because it is rather central to our experience, but there are many others which for the most part are not noticed now. If we can begin to notice this one then it can open a door to our observation of some of the others. But it is not just a matter of noticing it while I am talking about it here in the Chapel. That's perhaps easy to see—you may nod your heads in agreement—but you notice it in its other ramifications, particularly with respect to the returning aspect of the cycle, because it is going to come back for sure!
This is nothing to be afraid of. There used to be a certain amount of trepidation in this regard whenever there was a buildup in a service so that there was a more intense radiation. There was a certain trepidation about what was going to come back later and hit everybody concerned. There was perhaps a more violent experience in that regard in days gone by than there is now because those concerned didn't really know how to handle it then. Now we begin to come into position where we can handle it, where we know what we are doing, where we know what is happening and where we can allow our angelic intelligence as sons and daughters of God to take precedence over our stupid human reactions; because it is the human reactions that perpetuate the human nature conditionings present in ourselves. When we are willing to let these be cleared in ourselves the clearing is not then limited to us. The opportunity is extended to others, whether they are consciously aware of it or not.
I'm sure that all of you have noted, as things have been continuing to unfold, changes in other people with whom we may have some association or relatedness in some way, without their being particularly conscious of what it is that is really happening. We find this occurring perhaps in the field of earthly relatives. They change their attitude. It's amazing, isn't it? We find a greater sense of true relatedness in that earthly pattern, because things change. And the things that change change with respect to us individually and the field of responsibility that is around us. Our earthly relatives are included in that field. A lot of people have tried to escape their relatives one way or another, but we have a responsibility, whether we like it or not, because we have the connection. And we have similar human nature conditionings, incidentally, in ourselves. That makes the connection useful. Because we handle what is in us we are at the same time handling what is in them. And because something is being handled in them, when they put in an appearance on the scene we suddenly find, “Oh they've changed, haven't they?” Oh they changed, but you changed first! We're not waiting for somebody else to change; we let the change come here in ourselves first because we take responsibility for it. We understand what is happening. And being present as a son or a daughter of God we do not follow out the same ruts of human nature reactions anymore. We are delighted to have the opportunity which the rut presents but we're not going to walk in it anymore. And when we don't, that clears the thing. When we behave as a son or a daughter of God there is something clear, obviously. Our behavior in that respect will no longer be conditioned by the human nature aberration.
So let us awaken to the reality of these creative cycles that are at work. They have always been at work but we and others have been blind to them. And we have not accepted the opportunity which they present, chiefly because there has been fear: “That which I feared has come upon me.” Well of course we see why! But being identified in angelic nature, we are no longer afraid of these things; we welcome them—“Here at last I'm in position to see how I can handle this and let it clear.” Then it's gone!
So I rejoice in this opportunity we have this morning to participate in the release of the LORD's blessing in this particular fashion. What goes forth, even though it may still be conditioned somewhat by human nature, will be coming back later, and we are looking for the day! Just let it come and we'll handle it; we'll deal with it as sons and daughters of God and clear it out of the way, so that increasingly what goes forth of the blessing of the Lord may be pure and perfect, opening the door for the experience of what is pure and perfect insofar as all who are moved by the radiation are concerned.
If we see the way it works we can see how very quickly changes can come. They have been rather slow heretofore because we ourselves have been so slow to let changes come in our own experience. We have continued to follow out the human nature ruts and so all we have offered back to those for whom we are responsible are the same ruts a little deeper. But now, as we let the ruts be cleared, filled in perhaps, then what is offered back is certainly an improvement, if nothing else, on what was extended before. We can see that if we actually let the clearing come with respect to some human nature pattern within ourselves, then the opportunity is wide open for that to happen in others; not just an improvement but something perfect, right off the bat. But if we plod along, letting a little change come here, a little change there, we may run out of life before it is all done, and everything is very slow in our fields of responsibility. But if we let the changes in us come quickly, then the changes come quickly there.
Here is the true meaning of our lives. We can begin to see what it is that is happening, rather than merely judge by the surface appearance of things. And playing our part, all things work together to perfection. This is what it means. All things are made new, to the Glory of God. Those words have been used over and over: to the Glory of God. What do they mean? Glory relates to life, we recognize. When we function as we should it is always to the Glory of God, because the life that is inherent in God is magnified in expression on earth where we are. The Glory of God is made known; the Life of God is made known in the world. The only reason for our existence is to let the Life of God be made known on earth. And if this is our reason for being here, then everything we do is to the Glory of God; everything we do reveals the increased expression of the Life of God on earth. How quickly the end may come, the end of human nature and the end of all reflections of human nature that come back to us out of the environment! Let us accept the responsibility in our living, moving easily in the creative cycles as they unfold pulsation upon pulsation within our continuing experience.
There is something new emerging—an angel who is going to take charge of you as you have thought yourself to be in the external sense. So as charge is taken, you find that what you thought yourself to be has been dissipated to that extent and what has taken charge is what you are, because that is what you are expressing—and you are what you express, fundamentally. It is not what you take into your belly; it is what comes out of you that gives you value and meaning, and gives you a sense of self. Most people try to gain a sense of self by stuffing themselves and they may have the experience of a big, bloated condition, whether physical or mental, but it is not the truth, not what the individual really is. What you really are is what is expressed by you out of your heavenly heredity, and when it is expressed you know that—that is what you are. If it is not expressed you do not know it and no amount of information will cause you to know it.
As you abide in the tone of life, the design of life becomes apparent and you know what you need to know in the moment, as if by magic.You are not depending anymore upon the information which was seemingly usable by your human ego in times past. There are those who have been functioning on this basis, who suddenly begin to find that what used to work does not work anymore. And they are left desolate until they say, “Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.” Blessed is the One of heavenly heredity who finds expression. Then you begin to know the truth of yourself, amongst other things. But you are not self-centered—you are not peering around to see if you can see yourself somehow. You can’t. There is no way by which you can see yourself. Anything that you can see is not you. All we need to do is to be ourselves in expression. That is all that is necessary. Somebody else may see us. That is their good fortune, we trust.
I can say in this moment, “I have yet many other things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them until you do a little more living”—and in any case, all that is necessary is present for each one.You stay home and the world comes to you. From the standpoint of angelic consciousness, you are waiting for the world. You are waiting for human beings to come home. You do not sit around on your backside, hopefully expecting them to come home. The waiting is waiting upon the Lord so that you might be in position to offer what is needful as the world passes by you, which it will, and out of that which passes by will come elements of response that can be brought home. This is your greatest joy.
You also know that there are elements present that are going to pass on by. Seeing that the creative movement is a spiral, maybe some of those elements that pass by once will come around again. It is interesting to observe that on occasion.Never try to hold on to anyone. Let them pass on by if that is what they are doing. Do not run after them—if you do, you leave your place where you belong, because you do not belong running after people. The Lord never ran after anyone. The Lord just holds the door open for those who will come through, and He offers help in that regard. But a person who is moving away, let him move away. Your welcome is to those who will not detract from your lightness. So we stand where we belong, in the moment, allowing the birth of whatever it is that should appear in the moment, whether it is in a word or an action. We begin to discover what it is that complements the spirit which we express.
All learning is self‑learning—one is never taught anything by somebody else. We learn through our own experience. This is the education in which we are properly interested. It is a giving forth. You can't really learn anything that is of any value without your own expression in living. Unless the person lets it find expression in his own living he has learned nothing. So be willing to learn as you go. You will find that you actually know a lot that you didn't think you knew. And when you speak, you learn just as much as anybody else. The spirit of truth in expression through you is living and serving. It enables you to handle everything that is present with you at all levels and in all departments. That is not a clear‑cut thing right off the bat, but gradually it emerges. As it does so, you know it and you are not just swallowing something that someone else said. Let what is of the spirit of truth move through you, and in your experience of living, and you will find that all that is necessary is present. Do not imagine that we all have to know everything. You can think of many specific fields where you have not developed too great an understanding as yet, and perhaps in some of the fields you do not need to.
Let's not become structured in our view of the way things should be handled. Let us be open so that we can let it move in whatever way it should. There is fluidity in our experience and in what we offer others. Nothing is set. Various aspects of the world will be coming to you, will be presented to you, as the opportunity for offering what is right and fitting out of the holy place. You stay in the holy place—you stay home. What a wonderful thing to stay home and be anywhere.
You are being sent, in the sense that you came into the world, but you are here now. “And he shall send his angels.” We begin to realize what that means in relationship to our own experience. We have been sent. We are here. And we gratefully accepted the opportunity of being here, the privilege above all privileges, of serving the LORD in these special days. There have been angels who have come on earth and found themselves able to emerge to some extent through human consciousness in days gone by, and we read about some of them in the Bible. They were always looking toward something that was not yet in point insofar as they were concerned. Except on the occasion when the Master was present, nothing ever finally did come to point. It did come to point insofar as He was concerned, but nobody else seemed to know it. He was there and He could have done what needed to be done if anyone else had been willing that it should.
Now in these days, toward which it may be said that all the prophets of old looked, we have the privilege of actually being here. Of course we may have been back there too, and those times may have seemed to be a little more discouraging than the way things are now, yet most people see discouragement wherever they look. But this is the fulfilment—and we are here to make sure that it is. And if we were chosen to be here at this time, are we going to impute a wrong choice to the Lord by saying, “Oh no, not me, Lord.”
Somebody said, “Why me?” Who else? Who else begins to understand? Who else begins to share the consciousness of the angel? We know why we are here. “And he shall send his angels”—He has sent His angels—“with the great sound of a trumpet.” The tone is sounding loud and clear for increasing numbers, the great sound of a trumpet—Gabriel's trump. Human beings have been anticipating this—something to do with the second coming of Christ, cocking their ears for the sound. But it is here! There are not too many hear it, but increasingly there are those who do hear it without realizing that they are hearing it. We hear it and realize that we hear it, and we can invite others to share that realization.
I am sure that many things have been said to you that you had not heard before, but when you did hear you said, “Of course! Yes. I knew that all along; I just couldn't put it into words.” One is aware of many things without having consciously allowed them to come to point as to what they are. You are aware of far more than you think you are aware of, because you have not allowed it to emerge yet into your own expression adequately. But as you do you may say, in one sense, “Oh, how did I know that?” But in another sense you knew it—obviously—because you expressed it. You woke up to it yourself. While you were expressing you woke up to it yourself, in the sense of your human consciousness. Seeing that you have been identifying yourself with the human consciousness heretofore, it emerges into your awareness on this basis; but what it really is, is the expression of the truth of you coming forth into human consciousness.
So the angels have been sent with the great sound of a trumpet. This is a fact now! It is not a futuristic thing insofar as we are concerned. It may be futuristic insofar as many others are concerned, but not to us. “And they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” From one end of the heaven to the other—our field of operations is the heaven. Those who awaken out of their dream state awaken to the heaven, and we are right there. And we find people from one end of the heaven to the other. There is quite a spectrum insofar as the heaven is concerned, and it takes all of us and many more to encompass it.
The elect—whoever they are. You may say, “Well who are the elect?” Let's find out! Don't try to define it with the mind, as though that would mean anything. Let us discover what the truth of the matter is in our own experience because we gather the elect, and when they are gathered, there they are. We know who they are. Gather the elect from the four winds—this has something to do with the creative working of the Four Forces. We will not violate those Forces; we will not violate the working of the Law. It is on this basis that the elect come. They either come on this basis or they don't come at all. It is the only way, and we are here to administer this. We are stewards and administrators—as the angels of God in the flesh on earth—and you find yourselves in this position with such consciousness of it as is now true of you. This is not the ultimate, obviously.
The spiral has been going around, presumably a little higher. There is something new to be known, some participation in a way that wasn't open to you before. Now it is, and the adventure, the delight, of letting this new experience come so occupies the consciousness that the old experience simply vanishes without regret. Human beings spend so much time regretting things. It is so much easier to let everything go when the time comes for it to go, because it leaves ample space for the welcoming of whatever is to come. Fundamentally this happens each moment. We learn to do it in each moment—in the larger wheels of the various cycles we do it just as easily. I trust there is no weeping or wailing or knashing of teeth.
As angels of the Lord you know we have ample time. We don't have to fit everything into a few short years. There is plenty of time.We also realize that there are very specific creative cycles for which we are responsible here on earth, and we are concerned that these should be handled with effectiveness to the Glory of God. In a particular sense, to the Glory of our LORD and KING who chose us—and sent us into the world—and because it was His choosing and His sending we can conceive of no greater honor; no greater honor than to be here now to get the job done. Praise the LORD!
His Body His Spirit

Here are the words of the King. “I have chosen you to be my body.” Those in whom the substance of mind and heart is free enough to resonate with the love of the King compose His body.
We are the ones who participate in this particular evidence of His body. We are aware, I’m sure, that while in our self-centeredness we may have thought that we chose to be present, we are in fact present only because we have been chosen, because there has been whatever measure of resonant substance in our hearts and minds so that we are here in a very particular and specific sense.
If we still imagine that we chose to be here, we are not here. Only those are really present who have been chosen because the substance of mind and heart was sufficiently resonant to the radiance of love. That is a compulsion which could hardly be resisted. This is the case when the substance of resonance is of sufficient quantity and quality—then we begin to become humble.
We may say, “My mind, my heart, my body are here because they heard the King’s command.” No longer is the attitude taken: “I’m so important and capable that I can choose whether I shall be present or not.” That is human nature speaking, isn’t it? If any such view still persists, to that extent there is an absence of resonant substance, there is what may well be described as a holdout—“I am still going to retain my concept of separation.”
We come physically, mentally and emotionally, because there is the substance which resonates with the radiant love of the King. In all honesty we would never deny that, because if we do we deny the King. If we say, “I’m here of myself, I made the choice,” that is saying, “I’m still a very important human being.”
Body, mind and heart are brought in response to the radiation of the love of our King. And it is the substance of our love, present in mind and heart, that brought us. With this awareness it is so easy to be deeply thankful. If as human beings we still imagine that we are in command and can do as we please, come or not come, we simply fool ourselves and deny the King. So we understand these words: “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit.”
That magnetic power is strong and, in spite of the kicking and squealing, if there was sufficient resonant substance, heart and mind came: they couldn’t help themselves. I’m sure we have reached a point where we are willing to acknowledge that, so there is no more human arrogance which says, “I came of myself. I chose to come.” No, you didn’t. If you think you did, you didn’t come. Only those have come whose resonant substance has been adequate to bring them. If this substance does not prove to be adequate, then that heart and mind haven’t really come.
We come to compose His body on earth. It is His body. It is His spirit. His thinking, His feeling, His action. As human beings we have no input. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you to be my body, ordained to bring forth life and to bring it forth more abundantly. The radiance of the King pouring forth through His body engenders resonance in any substance throughout the body and the consciousness of mankind which is free enough to resonate. One might recognize this as a very foolproof system.

Lloyd Meeker — During the course of the service this morning I was reminded that the truth is beautiful, that there is no such thing as an ugly truth. There are certainly plenty of ugly external facts of which we are aware, which I won’t list. The truth remains perfect and beautiful. In fact, in one of the early tapes, Uranda said something about the truth being “exquisitely beautiful!”
This gave rise to some consideration about the difference between truth and external fact, the relationship between them, but certainly the attempt of human nature to supplant truth with acquisition of and control over external facts. It’s a pretty pathetic undertaking, considering that right away truth is spirit, cause, and external facts are results, effects. We know how it is impossible to climb back up through the network of results, of external fact, to get to the pure truth. We can explore the external facts and perhaps even dissect them; but ultimately there is nothing there because truth is spirit, unencumbered by external facts and certainly unencumbered by our understanding of them. Certainly human nature has been able to encompass a large—well we think it’s a large—number of external facts. I suspect in actual fact, in truth, it is a very small number of the external facts which are available. But human nature will never encompass truth, for truth is an aspect of the spirit which makes the very existence of human nature possible in the first place.
We’ve considered often recently the pursuit of knowledge, which is, in basic terms, pursuit and collection of external facts. I thought of a game called “Trivial Pursuit.” I am somewhat embarrassed to confess that apparently I am fairly good at this game. It is staggering the number of absolutely useless and unrelated facts which one collects even without trying very hard, and they sit around in the subconscious, in some subterranean barracks, like soldiers in a grade B movie just waiting for the call, and out they pop; and it’s amusing for an hour or so. But it is a trivial pursuit; for the truth, the spirit of truth, floods creation in beauty unattainable so long as we identify with human nature and are addicted to external facts. Part of the problem, I guess, is that external facts always seem to change from time to time. Even when we get them basically organized they tend to shift and squirt out from under our mitts: think of how views of natural science have changed from time to time.
During the Music Conference we saw a film of some cymatics, which has to do with placing substance on a membrane and then introducing the vibration of a certain frequency into the membrane and agitating the substance, which then collects in patterns reflecting the shape of the vibration. All you have to do is change the vibration a little bit and the substance reorganizes in an entirely different pattern. And if you’re a sand collector on this bouncing membrane, trying to organize sand, and somebody upstairs turns the knob, changes the vibration—as always happens in the beautiful variety of truth—just when we thought we had it figured out it all shifts under our feet and away we go again.
The vibration of the Tone does transform external fact. And this is our concern, not the follies of human nature particularly, but how might we more clearly give release to the Tone so that the vibration of truth has meaningful contact with the substance of the earth, heretofore stolen by human nature. As we have gathered and allowed our consciousness to expand somewhat to encompass the vibration of the Tone as we are presently capable, we have seen how it transforms our view of external facts around us. But hasn’t there from time to time been a tendency to begin to see “needs” in the realm of external fact (more acutely perhaps!) and in the pressure of feeling that somehow that need should be filled in a particular way, resorting to our habits of manipulation in order to achieve a certain result, rather than simply sounding the Tone more clearly and steadfastly than ever before? Human nature is never going to be convinced that the Tone is actually sufficient to let the earth be transformed. After all, it’s looking for facts to prove it, external facts. Well there has been no sustained emanation of the Tone for a long time. Perhaps we have thought that if we just gave an occasional bleat of the Tone that that would be enough. But no, the Tone must be sustained. The moment the tone is cut off from this shaking membrane the form in the sand disappears. Truly the means does determine the end. The Tone determines the end. Or if we resort to manipulation, that determines the end result. We know the nature of that end.
External facts, though, are only a part of fact. There are heavenly facts, the purpose behind truth. We say “love”; but the dimensions of that word remain closed to us until we are sufficiently capable of accommodating the Tone that the veil between earthly and heavenly facts parts in our consciousness, so that we begin to understand facts that we are also responsible for in heaven. We know that we can collect external facts until the cows come home, and interpret them any number of ways, but there is no clear direction there because the design and control of truth are missing, and behind them the purposes of love are missing. I suppose the final proof of our ability to accommodate the Tone is the dissolution of disagreement. After all, if the truth is being expressed and therefore known, how can there be disagreement? The truth is true, and the truth is oneness. And that’s a fact!
Lord Exeter — The facts are inclusive of both heaven and earth. If we think of heaven and earth as each being fifty percent, then considering earthly facts is only seeing half the picture. Trying to work merely with earthly facts is excluding half the facts that need to be known. This is one way of looking at it. We have the opportunity of looking at things in various ways. Many analogies have been used. Some of them have persisted over their natural life span, shall we say! Some of these analogies return again to be used at a different level of understanding. If this happens, care needs to be taken that we do not slip back into the understanding that the analogy portrayed before, but let it be new. We are concerned with what is in the present moment. This is our connection with the truth. Whatever it is that is present in the present moment includes both heaven and earth, and also includes the fact of spirit which makes possible heaven and earth. Here is another factor. It isn’t even a matter of fifty percent, is it? There is a transcendent factor, which we may have referred to by using the word “spirit,” from which the creative process proceeds and the vibrational design of truth is established in the heaven.

The substance of heaven we have referred to by using the coined word pneumaplasm. As we have noted, pneumaplasm has a variety of consistencies. In view of the fact that the heaven is the habitation of antispirit as well as of spirit, the quality of pneumaplasm will reflect the character of either one. If I use an analogy now, don’t get stuck with it. Lloyd was mentioning cymatics and the fact that there is a membrane upon which the physical substance rests, and the vibration is transmitted by reason of the membrane to the physical substance. There might well be a vibration present and the physical substance present, but if there wasn’t a membrane it would have no effect whatsoever on the physical substance. So here we could see an analogy with respect to pneumaplasm. In this case the membrane would represent the pneumaplasm which is required to vibrate according to the invisible vibration that is brought to bear. And when it does so, it in turn transmits that vibration to the physical substance, which stands up in a variety of forms according to the nature of the vibration.
This pneumaplasmic membrane which is present in mankind could be seen as having a rather sticky consistency. It is the quality of pneumaplasm which accommodates antispirit. This sticky pneumaplasm is reflected in sticky substance, substance which is not resilient and capable of revealing the true designs of the vibration of the spirit of truth, because the quality of the pneumaplasm cannot accommodate that refined vibratory level. The pneumaplasm is sticky; the physical substance is sticky. It is held together in this way but more or less immovably, so that the only way that life could move in this state of affairs would be on the basis of a pressure which ultimately shatters the stuck state. Of course when the stuck state does shatter, as occurs in individual experience and as has occurred in the body of mankind over the ages from time to time, the shattered pieces have invariably come together again on the basis of the quality of pneumaplasm that accommodates antispirit, so that there has been an endless repetition.
It is said that history repeats itself. It does this because the form which takes place on the basis of this sticky pneumaplasm is subject to this cycle of being built into a structure that is seemingly immovable, but then the pressure of life breaks it down. In more recent times we have the spectacle of what was called the British Empire, a very fancy structure that was composed, or brought into form, by this sticky substance of pneumaplasm on the basis of antispirit. I don’t think the British—I have to look at myself in this—would be inclined to acknowledge this fact. But it’s not just the British Empire; I think the British might acknowledge it with respect to the Spanish empire of old or the French empire or some other empire, and the attitudes of these various empires would be similar to the British attitude, no doubt. History repeats itself.
There can’t be a living form on the basis of this quality of pneumaplasm which permits the working of antispirit. There is a very confused vibratory state which is reflected in the confused physical substance. There are no very beautiful designs appearing on this basis, and we may see easily how futile it is to try to produce anything of a living, and of a consequently lasting, nature on this basis. Empires have come and gone, nations have risen and fallen, civilizations have risen and fallen. And many of those civilizations in the past have been completely obliterated from human memory. At least they cannot be consciously recalled in the ordinary course of events. There is no point in recalling them anyway because what we know now is merely a repetition of what went before.
But there is the refined pneumaplasm which is capable of accommodating the spirit of truth, the design and the control that is present in that, so that the membrane of pneumaplasm can then transmit that to the substance which rests upon the membrane. Remember that pneumaplasm permeates all physical substance, pneumaplasm of one sort or another. I suppose in a way this is merely a method of describing something which the rather limited capacity of the mental apparatus can comprehend. One may be rather assured that this way of describing it is not really the way it is, but it is an interim opportunity to begin to participate in experiencing a larger understanding.
This human state of affairs, which has been in existence for many thousands of years, has in fact been in existence, cosmically speaking, less than the blink of an eye. Human beings involved in the condition put great store by it, but in the overall sense it doesn’t amount to very much. However, there is a reason for the existence of mankind, as we well know, which relates to the cosmic whole; and there is something lacking in the cosmic whole when the reason for the existence of man is ignored, overlooked, forgotten. This being the case, the creative forces which operate throughout the universe will, at the appointed time, bring things to issue so as to eliminate this point of lack, of absence, this little hole in the overall operation. And we find ourselves related to this process—we call it a recreative process.
Now as we well know, there is present an incarnate angel insofar as each of us is concerned—we will look at it from our own immediate standpoint—who is operating already in the design of truth. It’s only human minds and hearts, and consequently bodies, that have been occupied with other things, therefore have not been aware of the working that is already in effect by reason of the presence of the incarnate angel. The mind of man has been almost a total blank insofar as this is concerned, but just because the mind doesn’t know about something doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening. That is the usual arrogant view of human minds, that if they don’t know about it, it can’t really exist. But there is this creative process at work with which the incarnating angel is always aligned, there is an encompassing control with respect to mankind, an encompassing control of which mankind is not at all aware. They think mentally and emotionally that they’re free agents to do whatever they choose to do. We’ve all had that sort of an idea individually, haven’t we? “Well I think I’ll do this or do that.” We seldom realize what it is that is compelling us to make our human decisions. We think that it is the wisdom of our great minds, and the power of our emotions is going to put it into effect, and all this; but really that’s a fantasy, a fantasy in which most people believe.
There is something in operation that completely transcends anything that human beings are doing on earth, and if we have this perspective we may see how insignificant the things that human beings are doing on earth really are. It’s like a little comer of the nursery, so to speak, in which brats are trying to do their thing while the adult world, this cosmic whole, goes on uninterrupted. If the kids get too noisy and obstreperous, sometimes a parental control is thrust into the nursery and human beings are temporarily called to task. Well we can see that in terms of the rise and fall of nations and empires and civilizations. It has never gotten so far out of hand that it could affect the operation of the creative process in the cosmic whole. And there has been a way by which what human beings have been doing has been kept within a certain range, so that there would be the opportunity for what we now call restoration to permit mankind to come out of the state in which it has existed for all these thousands of years. We have become aware of this. Something has penetrated into our rather sticky human minds which has reminded us that there is much more than we usually think about. And there has been the urge on this basis to align ourselves with what it is that is really happening. What it is that is really happening is an aspect of the truth.
There is a living process at work throughout the whole universe, whatever the universe may be. We mentally define it in certain terms, which may not be the way it is at all. We endeavor, in the operation of our minds and hearts, to fit things into the confines of our minds and hearts, then get formulas and different things, and say, “Well this is the way it is.” But the things that we try to fit into our minds and hearts don’t fit. After all, the human heart and mind is a very minuscule thing. You’re going to fit the operation of the whole universe into a little human mind and heart? How ridiculous! It wasn’t designed to be filled with that.
So we have an overshadowing control which has always been present and which has kept human beings from going too far. Of course there has been a certain awareness of this in certain minds and hearts, translated in terms of the God of religion who finally is seen as being a caring and loving God and who therefore would enfold mankind. It’s all very fine to be enfolded by a loving parent, so that one is kept from going too far astray; but if the kids refuse to grow up, they can’t forever be kept within the confines of the nursery, something has to happen, something has to give, and fundamentally I suppose the creative word is, “Grow up.” And not only grow up, but grow up or else! There has been a vast amount of patience exhibited over thousands of years in which brash human beings have rejected, generation after generation, the opportunity to grow up. They want to stay in the nursery, playing with their toys. They have become quite ingenious kids and invented a lot of sophisticated toys. But it’s all in the nursery; it has nothing to do with the adult operation. I suppose you could say that mankind is addicted to the nursery, to this infantile state. Kids often feel that they can do as they please—and a wise parent will allow them a certain leeway—but rightly even in human families it should be “Thus far and no further.” It certainly is in the overall human family. There has been a firm hand which has said, “Thus far and no further.” I suppose that’s been said at stated intervals; when things get too obstreperous, then that’s it.
All this is based in the fact that the quality of pneumaplasmic substance that has been present in the flesh bodies of human beings has been of this very sticky nature which has held things together in clumps. We have, after all, nations and races and communities and families, all held together in clumps. There has been great concern about the dissolution of the family, this particular little clump, because the dissolution of clumps is easily seen to be fatal to human nature because the human nature state is held together by this glue, this pneumaplasmic glue. But the consistency of that glue is so sticky that life can scarcely move in it. Of course this fact is used to advantage because eventually life begins to break up the crystallized form. Ultimately life won’t be prevented from moving. If it can’t appear through this gelled form, well it will appear through another. But for another to appear, substance needs to be broken up in the one that is fixed, the one that is glued together. And we can see this in process.
It’s not something new. It’s happened over and over again. What seems to be new about it, or in relationship to it, is the emergence of some pneumaplasmic substance that: is sufficiently resilient to accommodate the spirit of truth. So something is brought into the picture that was never there adequately before. It may be that it required this enormous population on earth to find enough people who would be willing to let this generation of flexible substance take place. That, I suppose it could be said, is speculation, but still it seems a good reason why there is such a mass of population because it has been proven out in times past that a very small percentage of the human race has ever been willing to transcend human nature. I don’t know how many people there were on earth when the Master was here, but insofar as transcending human nature was concerned there was just one person on earth. So maybe it has needed five billion, I don’t know, to have just a few hundred even who would be willing to let this generation of pneumaplasmic substance take place, capable of accommodating the spirit of truth.
As this happens, a new creation can begin to put in an appearance; and the creation that puts in an appearance isn’t a dying structure, it’s a living form. We ourselves can testify, at least in some measure, to the fact of this living form. We may not be too sure as yet, insofar as our conscious minds are concerned, what exactly it is. Some may define it in terms of EDL; others don’t like those letters very much for some reason, so they don’t want to define it that way. Well it doesn’t really matter how you define it; it’s what it is that counts. There is what we call a body and, seeing that we have some consciousness of being alive, it has some evidence of being a living body—a body which takes form how? According to the design of truth, if the fine substance of pneumaplasm is present to let it happen. Heretofore those who begin to permit this to occur have been trapped in the old human nature state of sticky substance. And we have found it, I’m sure, as rather sticky when we were coming out of it. It wanted constantly to pull us back again into the old state. But to the extent that there is this fine substance generated, it is capable of accommodating the spirit of truth and therefore the spirit of life, and the design begins to emerge. We have some indication of the nature of that design on the basis of our own physical forms. Of course they’re not a very good example of it for the most part, because there are so many ills of the flesh around, but there are some principles that are observable at least.
There has been an indication of the nature of that design contained in what we have called the “spiritual blueprint,” namely the Book of Revelation. You may recall that the first thing John became aware of, when he paid attention to the voice behind him, was seven golden candlesticks and One in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks. How would you describe the living organization of the collective body which should put in an appearance on the basis of the working of the spirit of truth through the refined pneumplasm? You wouldn’t really have any words, would you? You wouldn’t, to start with, know what it was. But there might be a sensing as to its nature, and that sensing affected the consciousness of this particular man in this way, so that he saw it in terms of seven golden candlesticks and the fact that there was One in the midst of the seven candlesticks, clothed in a certain way, a very bright figure that wasn’t of some strange dragon or ogre or something else but like unto the Son of Man. Surrounding this One were the seven golden candlesticks, and there were seven stars. And, carrying the analogy a little further, the candlesticks became churches and the stars became the angels of the churches. Here we see something of a design putting in an appearance. It’s splendid that it was touched in terms that human beings could hardly take hold of and make something out of them; of course there has been much attempt in that regard.
The point is that, as there is the generation of this substance, the design begins to emerge; and the heretofore uncomprehending conscious human mind may begin to glimpse, in relationship to itself, the nature of the incarnate angel. Human minds usually want to take the glory to themselves: “I’m really going to make something out of myself. I’m going to get all of this education, all of this knowledge, and I’m going to make something out of myself.” And all they make eventually is nothing. But if there is humility in the mind there may be a sensing of the nature of the design of truth emerging through the pneumaplasm which one has generated by one’s own living. If you haven’t done that of course you don’t have any and so there’s no possibility of discerning anything. Those who haven’t done it are inclined to say, “There isn’t anything there.” Well there’s nothing there for them of course.
But letting this be generated, there comes an awareness of the nature of the angelic positioning in the design. I don’t like to use the word “positioning” because it makes it look as though it was some sort of fixed structure. It isn’t that. If you were to become aware of the spirit of truth emerging into your consciousness, that isn’t a structure, is it? It’s an awareness of something that is invisible. But this was described in terms of churches; and I wonder a little bit whether that is an accurate translation of the word as it originally was. I think it is probable that it was translated as “churches” because there was this intent to create a church and to justify that creation; and of course a church was created, the church of Rome. But here were seven vibrational levels; this would be a more accurate way of describing it. We know something about the fact of our own endocrine system, which is related to the figure seven, and perhaps some awareness that these seals, as they have been called, permit certain spiritual vibratory factors to enter into the physical form to establish various levels, or potential levels, of consciousness in the physical form.
Most people are very interested in how that applies to themselves, and they try to figure it all out with respect to themselves, how it should all work. But the description here is not so much with respect to the individual as it is with respect to this body which must take form, if there is to be the basis for the restoration of man. That is the angelic concern. Incidentally there may be a bit of restoration going on in the individual mind and heart and body. Fine, but let’s keep it in perspective. That’s a very small thing relative to what it is that is happening in the overall sense, and each incarnate angel has a task in the overall sense. Here it is described with respect to just seven: seven angels, seven stars, the seven angels of the seven churches. Here is the most elementary part of the emerging design. And there are those who are the angels of the seven churches, the angels of the seven vibratory levels that are contained in the forming body.
I trust that we have reached beyond that self-centered attitude which is inclined to say—and this is the mind speaking again—“Well I’d like to know what my position is,” as though the mind had been appointed to a position. It’s not been appointed to any position; it never could be. All it is capable of doing is allowing the angelic awareness to come forth so that it may know as much as it needs to know. I think that will not be very much, for a while at least, because if the mind gets hold of something it tends to take it to itself and say, “Ah, now this is me; I know how it is now, I know what to do.” And away it goes again, and all is lost. It has to stay humble.
I rejoice to introduce something of this nature so that there may be an awareness of the fact of angelic incarnation in this way, establishing whatever the design is. That is what establishes the design, not what the mind thinks about it or what the heart feels about it. The design is already present, but as there is humility once again, repentance and humility, there is space for the angel to peep through, shall we say. And the mind can become aware of that peeping and, staying humble, can participate in the process by which this design emerges in its natural creative cycles. There are those who do become aware of these things first; then of course somebody else sitting nearby may say, “Are you becoming aware of something? I’m not; therefore you can’t be.” Or if there is an admission that somebody else does know something then perhaps jealousy sets in. We have all these human nature traits which have to be relinquished. We can’t allow them to have any part in what is occurring. And gradually the truth emerges, both consciously and subconsciously. It doesn’t all emerge consciously. That would be utter confusion, wouldn’t it? It emerges consciously one thing at a time, moment by moment by moment, and we are content with that.
We share the expression of the angel and we discover what that really is, the expression of the angel in human form on earth. And we do it collectively in this larger body which accommodates the Archangel, the coordinating point, so that all move together easily and naturally and delightedly, all in love. It’s a wonderful feeling, isn’t it, to be in love. Let us share that wonderful feeling under the hand of the spirit.

Lord Exeter — As there is pneumaplasmic substance in which sound may initiate a particular vibration, this permits the initiation of a creative process to be brought into the earth. We have shared something of this by reason of this time of chant. It is not separate and apart from what we ourselves release in our living. As this coordinated release occurs, the effect is reflected in external facts. Whatever is done is not merely of that moment—which is already in the past, insofar as this chant is concerned—but is properly sustained because all maintain their awareness of responsibility in this regard.
There has been a sustained vibratory tone sounded over the last fifty or so years. It has been sustained. Various ways have been introduced in form by reason of the Tone, by which is made possible the sustaining of the Tone with respect to the field of the creative process. You are aware how this has occurred. There has been the release, week after week, year after year, of the live expression of the Tone; and that has been complemented by the printed word, more recently by the audio reproduction of the word, and then the video reproduction of the word. These have all been aspects revealing the fact that the Tone has been sustained. It was never allowed to fall to the ground. Consistently over the weeks, the months, the years, it has been sustained.
Now it begins to emerge in a more direct way from the body itself, symbolized particularly by this chant this evening, the responsibility for which was taken by Gary and by the other men. Let us be very sure that each one of us sustains the Tone. This chant is but a small beginning of what shall no doubt be, but it is perfect for now. I am so thankful that Gary particularly has allowed this to be drawn to focus; there are some others with him. No doubt in the days to come it will be allowed to expand, so that the Tone in this way is sustained and increased. It runs parallel to what is happening in our whole release of spirit by reason of this body. What a rich blessing we know, and how much more there is to be known—not in the sense of gaining knowledge but in the sense of letting the truth take form in expression, moment by moment by moment.
