Flow Of Spirit—Flow In Form—Unprecedented Change
Flow Of Spirit — Flow In Form
Unprecedented Change
from Man, The Connecting Substance
Martin Cecil April 15, 1984 p.m.
Like the wind, the spirit moves. We have described that movement as a flow, a smooth movement. It’s not jerky—it’s not tough to chew, and it doesn’t go in fits and starts. When there is an open connection between spirit and what we think of as substance, then forms are created. The forms which are so created conform with spirit and with the movement of spirit. If the movement of spirit is smooth, if there is a flow to it, then so it is likewise with form. In the world of form which is present on earth at this time there is a great deal of turmoil, there is a great deal of jerky movement. The forms are not at all harmonious to each other, for the most part, giving evidence of the fact that there is inadequate connection between spirit and form. The connection is present in some measure but it is troubled, disturbed, and does not transmit the clear impulse of the spirit. We may see this as it relates to our own experience. There are those times when you have an awareness of a flow occurring, a flow of spirit which is reflected in the forms of experience. You perhaps may say that things are going smoothly. Then something happens and the flow is no longer smooth, but in some way rough.
The movement of spirit is quite consistent. I know there have been those who have thought of spirit as putting in an appearance once in a while, and there are some who do a good deal of waiting—sitting around waiting for spirit to move. This merely indicates that the individual has not maintained an adequate connection with spirit, because spirit is always on the move, it is always flowing; we don’t have to wait for it. I suppose it could be said that spirit has been waiting for human beings to connect up, and so flow with the flow of spirit. Never justify yourself for doing nothing because you were waiting for the movement of spirit. It may be that when you experience the movement of spirit there is nothing to be done for the moment, but you are aware of the movement of spirit and of the effect of that movement, which at the moment is to do nothing. It is not as though spirit was not on the move.
So we have an increasing awareness of the continuing, consistent movement of spirit, which requires what we have called the substance of connection to allow for the appearance of form as a reflection of spirit and the movement of spirit. That substance of connection is related to what we think of as a pure heart. When there is a pure heart there will be the substance of connection between spirit and the substance of what we think of as form. Then the substance of form will move according to the movement of spirit. When this is allowed to happen, that is what is called the restoration. That is salvation. There is no interruption between the movement of spirit and the movement of form. The earth reflects the heaven.
For this to happen it requires the substance of connection. Now we may see the substance of connection in terms of human beings. That’s what human beings are present on earth for. They are, properly, the substance of connection between the flow of spirit and the reflected flow through form. This happens as Man is on the scene. This is the process of life as it occurs on the surface of this planet. You don’t need to try to investigate as to how it occurs somewhere else—this is what is rightly happening here. And without the substance of connection, namely Man, it can’t happen. Because Man, the substance of connection, has been out of place the flow of spirit has not been reflected in the movement of form. Of course human beings, observing the fact that the movement of form doesn’t seem to be very effective, try to do something about it, try to make the substance of form move in ways that are considered to be useful. In doing this, it is forgotten that human beings are supposed to be Man providing the substance of connection with spirit. Spirit is obliterated from consciousness by reason of the absence of the substance of connection, and the substitute of the substance of manipulation.
Human beings have been manipulating so long that any other method of operations is unknown. We have awakened somewhat to our own position, individually speaking and together, by which the substance of connection is provided. We see this substance of connection initially as a substance of connection between spirit and mankind. This is not ultimately what needs to happen—it is an interim requirement—because mankind is supposed to be Man and completely providing the substance of connection between spirit and the rest of creation. Obviously this is not the state of affairs presently, and we have awakened presumably to our responsibility for providing the substance of connection between spirit and mankind, that mankind may once again become Man, and being Man find itself restored to the position of connection between spirit and form. Then what is happening in spirit happens in form. That is the restored state.
This is all very nice mentally to look at, to recognize—theoretically at least—the possibility, but we all know there is more to it than that. We, ourselves, are present in order to experience being the connection between spirit and form now. The words “Be now” were particularly emphasized this morning when we were together, [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2022/03/be-now.html] that the flow of spirit, which is the reality, may appear in form and be known through the substance of form. This requires us to be where we belong, providing that connection, being now. This is the only moment that the connection can be provided. As we noted this morning, you can’t really do it in the future or in the past; it can only be done, actually, in fact, now. So this is our immediate concern in this moment, and in each moment as it reveals itself as being now.
George Emery made a remark concerning the fact that I was very current without knowing it. This comment was evoked by another book in which George has been interested, entitled “The Precious Present.” Of course, that title can be read two ways. It can be read as the precious gift somehow available to people. If it is looked at that way it probably will be interpreted as something that one has to find by some considerable effort here or there or somewhere else. Where is this precious gift? Or the words can be read as relating to the precious present moment. One could look all one’s life for the precious present, or gift, that was supposedly obtainable if one searched hard enough to find it. And this human beings are inclined to do—make all kinds of efforts to find this secret of life somewhere, available through someone perhaps, until finally a person might awaken to the fact that it was the precious present moment that was being referred to, and you didn’t have to go anywhere to find it.
Because of what was shared this morning, and because this book was already on the market, George said something about me being very current without knowing it, because I certainly haven’t read the book. I am sure that what I have said about “the precious present,” as indicated in the story, would seem to you to be a very elementary observation, a sort of kindergarten approach; and yet to vast numbers of human beings no doubt it seems a tremendous revelation of some kind, that the answer is in the present moment. Such books that do put in an appearance, seemingly related to things that we have been considering together, indicate the extent of the lag between the movement of spirit now and the reaction of human beings to it. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2018/03/exact-alignment-from-god-almighty.html] There is some reaction, and certainly many things appear in forms of various kinds that can easily be related to the movement of the spirit which we know. But what appears in form in that way is, by and large, extremely superficial, very elementary, and is revealing of the extent of the lag between the movement of spirit brought to focus through those who are responsible for it and the reaction, or the response, of the body of mankind to that. That reaction, or response, is illustrated through books sometimes, and in other ways; but it is always some distance away from what is occurring in spirit. In other words there is still quite a lag between, and it is questionable as to whether things will ever catch up on that basis.
George is expert at using such material to advantage in contacting people and making them feel that they’re really beginning to understand something. I don’t know whether you could say that is deception or not but they’re not really beginning to understand yet, because the movement of spirit brings forth into form what is, at the moment, totally unprecedented. In all these various ways which human beings reveal, of having been touched some way by the movement of spirit, there is still the interpretation which comes from the wrong stance, the wrong positioning of the person who is looking at these things. They’re all interpreted on the basis of what already is. What is happening is totally unprecedented—it’s not based in anything that already is on the human scene of things. It is not a matter of improving the world. This is the expectation which shall surely put in an appearance as people begin to realize that the present is precious. But nothing has really happened yet. The present is precious, but they don’t know why: because it allows for a totally new stance, in a totally new position. That position that we saw has no magnitude; it is not dimensional and therefore does not relate to what is presently dimensionally understood.
We have the opportunity of recognizing these things, not in a sort of condescending way: “These poor people get these ideas from time to time and see things in a little different way, but of course they haven’t really seen anything yet; whereas of course we’ve seen a lot; we know.” Do we, really? Or do we not make our approach from very much the same positioning that it has been in the past? How are we going to handle what is brought to us? Something needs to have occurred in our own experience, so that we are not trapped in the same state of bondage as everybody else. Yes, no doubt there is something that others need to see and understand and to experience. How are they going to do it? They are going to do it when one can say of oneself and speak truly, “I am the door. This can happen in the experience of anyone, because it has happened in me.” I am sure if you are a little humble you have assumed such a stance on occasion, that “if this can happen in me, it can happen in anyone.” But it has to happen in “me” first. There are many tools to our hands which can be used to provide direction in the movement of others, but we don’t know how to use them, because we don’t really know what the direction is until we have had the experience first. It’s the only way to know; otherwise it’s all theoretical.
So we are concerned with this experience, yes, of the present moment, because it relates to something so infinitely vast. Usually when these ideas begin to percolate in the consciousness of people, about the precious present for instance, it is seen in terms of an individual who, somehow or other, awakens to a realization that the present moment is all-important and presumably starts to live in the present and therefore experiences peace and happiness. How nice. Has anything happened, really? Some people experience peace and happiness by the use of drugs, at least momentarily, or alcohol or something else. Is the objective to experience peace and happiness? Is there an objective of that sort? I don’t think so. This is something that human beings in their state of disruption crave: “Oh, give me peace and happiness! But do it in such a way that I don’t have to let any real changes come in me.” It’s funny, isn’t it how people object to having others lay something on them, as they might put it, and yet they’re always asking for something to be laid on them, in this instance peace and happiness: “Lay it on me, and I’ll thank you eternally!” And so there are valiant people who try to lay it on others, in order to be thanked eternally, presumably.
One has to know the truth for oneself. I don’t think it’s really known yet. We’ve had glimpses. We’ve shared experiences which are, in some respects, transcendent from the human standpoint. We have a sense of oneness which is remarkable in some ways. We delight to move together, to be together. But is this the new heaven and the new earth, do you think? Or is it yet, well a rather improved first heaven and first earth? We can enjoy the first heaven and the first earth a bit more than we did before. We have spoken at times of drastic change, unprecedented experience. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2018/03/drastic-change-do-we-dare-let-go-from.html] We’ve had little dribs and drabs of it I suppose. But let us never become self-satisfied, and let us never be fooled by the little dribs and drabs that other people experience, imagining that some great thing is happening. There is some great thing actually happening, but how much do we really know it? There is something occurring on earth through human beings that is unprecedented, but it hasn’t been seen yet in that way. The approach is still from the usual human stance. I don’t say these things to discourage, because I thank God for what has happened so far; but we need to be beyond deceiving ourselves, beyond fooling ourselves, as to what really needs to happen and what really is happening. We’re yet quite shortsighted, if not entirely blind.
The changes must come in our own experience, the awakening into the actual expression of spirit which allows for this smooth flow, consistent flow, into the forms that we ourselves make available to spirit. We get accustomed to seeing things in a certain way, perhaps describing things in a certain way, using repetitive analogies of various sorts, which tend to lock a person into a state of consciousness that inhibits the greater movement and flow of spirit. One cannot give anything that one does not have; never try to do so. But obviously there is a need to have the experience of being now, which is not merely indicated by some state of peace and happiness that seems pleasing to human consciousness. That’s not the way it goes! [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2020/11/divine-disturbance.html] There are many things that certainly are true, which would not be pleasing to human consciousness. They certainly would not bring peace to human consciousness—praise the Lord! What an awful state, to be functioning from the standpoint of this state of consciousness and experiencing peace and happiness in it. We’d be stuck with the state forever!
In bringing forth, in birth, there are the natural and proper pains to be delivered, a certain amount of discomfort. Let us be willing to share that discomfort and not constantly be looking for something that is nice, and pleasing to human nature. There is another state altogether; it’s been spoken of in terms of rebirth. A man must be born again. This has had certain connotations in the consciousness of many people which obscure the truth. But there is a birth out of one state into another—and it isn’t “getting religion”, as some people have described the process. People have been getting religion in every generation for as long as human memory goes back, but it has achieved nothing. There is a birth out of one state into another state, out of the earthly state into the heavenly state, where there may be the experience of the natural flow of spirit. When that is experienced, then we are in position to provide the connection with form so that the flow of spirit may take its natural form. And it will appear as a flow in form, a movement in form.
There has been some sort of a movement in form going on, obviously. This has been interpreted in evolutionary terms as a rule, whether it’s evolution on a larger scale of the creatures and plants and all the rest of the earth, including man, or whether it’s the evolution on the stock market, or in whatever field of human endeavor you may choose. We have high tech these days; this presumably is evolution out of—what? low tech I suppose, something else anyway. All this evolutionary process is seen in terms of form. There isn’t any such process. What happens is that the spirit flows.
We might see this in terms of an analogy, where the flow of the spirit is the reality of which a moving picture is being made. In the moving picture it’s a process of photography frame-by-frame. Each frame represents the flow that has been occurring in the reality. In this analogy we’re looking at the reality of spirit—the flow is there. It’s not frame-by-frame. In our own experience in living we haven’t thought of it as being frame-by-frame. It’s been a movement. From the standpoint of spirit there is a flow. But from the standpoint of form it is as though it was frame-by-frame. The flow of the spirit creates the form. Of course when you run the film through the projector it gives the appearance of movement. It looks as though there’s something really happening there. And most people believe it. Their emotions are affected, they’re exhilarated, or they’re weeping, or they’re whatever. It seems so real!
Well that’s the way things are in the world of form. The form puts in an appearance because something happened in spirit. The connection was faulty, the substance was distorted, so the form that puts in an appearance is not an accurate reflection of what happened in spirit. But it is that reflection. It is a frame, and one frame doesn’t lead to the next frame. The next frame is what happened in spirit, reflected in form. The flow that is happening in spirit is reflected in form frame-by-frame. And the flow of the frames makes it appear as though there were some sort of evolutionary process going on in form. It isn’t! There is a creative process—something is going on in spirit. There is a flow, and this is reflected, in a distorted fashion at the moment, in form. And one form seems to lead to another form, and you have a picture. Oh, what fun! a moving picture. But a moving picture is only a reflection, frame-by-frame, of what was happening in the reality of spirit.
We are concerned with the flow of spirit; that’s where the movement is. And spirit isn’t evolving. Spirit is merely moving in a creative way, and because it is moving in a creative way, when it comes out in form it looks like creation. So everybody studies what has come out in form, looks at it so carefully to try to figure out why one form leads to the next form. It doesn’t! This relates very specifically to the theory of evolution: trying to make some sort of ape turn into a man along the way; one form has an effect on the next form and the next form and the next form. But it isn’t that at all. The forms are simply a reflection of something that has been going on in spirit, and because the connecting medium has been all disturbed and distorted it comes out in very peculiar ways which are more or less incomprehensible, because it’s not a true reflection, it’s not the real thing. It’s a distorted world in which we live, because of the lack of the connecting substance.
Well we are here to provide that connecting substance, as individuals and together, so that the flow of spirit may be reflected in the forms. But we do not see one form as leading to the next form. The movement is impelled by spirit, and it is impelled accurately when there is clear connecting substance, when there are clear human beings on hand to let it happen. We have the responsibility of being clear because we are now, and not caught up in our emotional reactions to past and future anymore, so that the distorted substance drains away. Then there is something clear on hand through which spirit flows unhindered, bringing forth, frame-by-frame, the forms that are necessary.
We do not anticipate that this form is going to lead to that one, necessarily. That’s what human beings are always doing, isn’t it?—trying to figure out what’s going to happen next. We don’t need to figure it out, just let the spirit flow in one’s own experience and expression, and everything will be as it should be. It will be a reflection of that flow in form. And we are here to let this happen. This is the process of resurrection, the process of salvation, of restoration, whatever word is used to describe it. And we are necessary to it, because Man was created to be the connecting substance, now, between spirit and form.
