Having The Glory Of God
Having The Glory Of God
Martin Cecil May 17, 1981 a.m.
“And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. Who shall not [love] thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy [righteous acts] are made manifest.”
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of [fulfilment] of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.”
These latter words are taken from the Book of Isaiah, indicating what was established in the realm of Cause at that time. Later a portion of this particular scripture was apparently quoted by Jesus. His words included the first part of this passage, indicating the initiation on earth of what had already been established in heaven. As the creative cycle moved and this point was reached, the door of opportunity was opened by Him for the children of men to participate in the continuing movement of that most glorious creative cycle. They could either have moved under His hand in the unfoldment thereof, or they could reject what He had brought in the spirit of peace. Rejection occurred, but this did not nullify the continuing movement of that creative cycle, for out of what human beings have looked upon as death and the mystery of resurrection the creative cycle continued to take form.
The world today, in a multitude of different ways, gives evidence of that continuing unfoldment. We ourselves have come to know the truth of this. We have some awareness of the inevitability of what is happening. Again we, and all mankind, have the opportunity of acceptance, participation, or rejection. According as the works shall be, so shall the results appear. No human being on the face of the earth is exempt from what now transpires.
“And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And [the angel] carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, Having the glory of God …
And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring the glory and the honour of the nations into it. And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
“And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal,
proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.”
Here is a portrayal of great beauty and much significance. We can look at these words in the light of our own experience. We are assembled now in this beautiful building, sharing the rich substance of the spirit of the Living God, rejoicing together to be here in oneness of that spirit, to have the opportunity to give glory to God in music and in song, knowing the wonder of life, discerning something of what is written in the book of life.
The holy city coming down from God out of heaven is no longer merely a fanciful imagination, as though it were an inanimate object to be thrust upon the world at some particular moment of God’s choosing. The holy city is known because the angels of God are present in it and made manifest on earth. It is a living state, which comes forth in the experience of the world because there are those present who bring it forth. Human views spring from the state of separation which sees that holy city as something apart from what is now known. But it isn’t separate from what is now known: it is rather a part of what is now known. As the angels of God are sent forth into the earth they are sent forth to reveal the reality of that holy city. It is by reason of the state of consciousness of those who share an understanding of these things that the holy city may be present, not as a strange thing descending out of the sky, but as the living expression of being known by those who are capable of surviving the sea of glass mingled with fire.
The city was said to be composed of gold, the streets thereof were of gold also: the symbol of love. Fire is the symbol of love. The heart, crystal clear, filled with the glory of the Lord. When this is so, as we ourselves may know, nothing that defiles or works abomination or makes a lie can enter in. The exclusion of such things is not because bars of iron are erected to keep them out. It is not because a defensive attitude is taken, or as the human being may say, “I mustn’t let this come in; I must keep it out.” What a struggle! But sharing the glory of the Lord, the expression of that joy, that love, that reality, makes it quite impossible for anything that defiles or works abomination or makes a lie to enter in. The purpose of such intensity of radiation is not to keep such things out, but that the river of life, clear as crystal, may flow freely into the consciousness of mankind.
Here we are together this morning, flesh bodies with minds and hearts, to be opened and yielded to the Lord, to the fire of His love, to the outpouring of His spirit into the world, that there may indeed be a sea of glass, clear as crystal, mingled with fire. The things that defile, work abomination, make lies, cannot exist where love is known. But love is not merely a pleasing emotion. It is fire indeed!
In love there is dominion. In love there is the design of truth and the glory of life. Love is not exclusive. Human minds and hearts, in their experience of separation, have tended to have an attitude of exclusiveness. Even those who have drawn closer to the wonder of love have found themselves in the fire somewhat in an uncomfortable way, to the extent that exclusiveness was maintained, the idea being so often that one had in the human sense to exclude this person or that person because they didn’t live up to the particular standards that had been arbitrarily set in one’s own consciousness. This exclusiveness has been present within the range of the Emissary ministry, as it has been called, both when looking toward those who seemed to be more exalted in the design or those who seemed to be less exalted in the design: “I can’t accept that person.” Who would be speaking in such case? Would that be the revelation of love? Love says, “I accept the design. I am the design. This is what I am.” And it is all-inclusive. There are those in the human sense who will be inclined to exclude themselves partially or completely. Has that not been our own experience on occasion, of excluding ourselves partially?
I changed some words in the passages which I read. One was “fear”, for which I substituted the word “love”. “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all.” Another word was “judgment”, and also “vengeance”. For “vengeance” I used the word “ fulfilment”. It could be looked upon as vengeance by some, I suppose, if that was what the harvest proved to be. But judgment was paraphrased by the words “righteous acts”—the righteous acts of God. They have certain effects. What the effects are is up to human beings. God acts. If we associate ourselves with the acts of God then the experience which is known is glorious. If we exclude ourselves from the acts of God then we receive the judgment that we have established for ourselves. It’s all very simple; there is nothing arbitrary about it.
There is no vengeful God dishing out misery, just human beings insisting upon it by attitudes of exclusiveness based in reaction of one sort or another: “I don’t like that person. In order to justify my dislike of that person I will describe his behavior as being contrary to the truth.” Love includes the design. All that is unfolding on earth is included in that design. Don’t object to it. If we associate ourselves as human beings with the angel of God who we are, it is all included. There is no fear that any defilement or abominable works or lies could assail our experience successfully. No particular consideration is given to that, because the total concern is to give thanks for the beauty, the wonder and the glory of the New Jerusalem which is shared.
How much attention is paid to the old state which is passing away! Even those pay attention who know better. The world apparently is sick unto death, and the human beings in it likewise. There are so many things wrong, so much that seems to cry out for correction, diseases of all kinds, individually and collectively. And how human beings study those diseases, with the expectation, apparently, that by such efforts the answer will come. How much attention is paid in that direction. And the word “disease” includes far more than the usual interpretation might be. Yes, something can be done in the world as we know it to alleviate some of the aches and pains in different ways, but our concern is not with that. It is that all things should be made new, the New Jerusalem coming down from God out of heaven, a new world, a new heaven and a new earth.
How reluctant most people are to relinquish the first heaven and the first earth: “No, we’ve got to study it a bit more; perhaps we can yet save it.” Never! It is passing away, thank God. This should be cause for great rejoicing. I suppose a little first aid here and there may be helpful, so that the person has another chance to receive what is being offered. Well there must be those present on earth to offer it. This is what has been absent from the world. How reluctant even those who begin to know something of these things are to provide what is coming down from God out of heaven. “No, we have to look over the earth a bit more. There may be a treasure lurking under a stone somewhere. We have to unearth it. We have to find the answer.” No you don’t, because there isn’t any there! We certainly know better.
We are here to share in bringing the New Jerusalem into the world— it can be put that way; one way of saying it—something coming down from God out of heaven, something which springs forth in the already moving creative cycle. It is here. If we are constantly distracted by this, by that, by the other thing, by our reactions to what is happening on earth, how could we possibly be in position to shepherd the New Jerusalem into the world? Anyone who is wrapped up in all these things that are going on in the earth is saying in effect, “These things that are happening here are much more important than what is coming down from God out of heaven. That’s just imaginary.” Well it is to that person presumably, because he doesn’t have any space in his own experience to know any different. But we do. We are here. We have offered ourselves, body, mind, heart, to the creative expression of the spirit of the Living God. Let us let that expression come forth. We will do it in our simple circumstances or we won’t do it. And we will have no attitudes of exclusiveness remaining, where we think that such and such a person is not worthy. Such and such a person is part of what is unfolding if one is part of what is unfolding oneself. You can’t exclude anybody. Everybody is in this same creative movement. And where there begins to be a consciousness of the fact that there is something beginning to emerge that is clear and right and beautiful, how much easier it should be to rejoice.
We were singing “America the Beautiful” before, with a certain amount of enthusiasm, I detected. Well it is not so much America; that is a little fragment of something. The New Jerusalem, the Kingdom of God— these are beautiful. What else do you think is beautiful? Anything else is corruption. Human beings have worshipped corruption. They worship disease. No wonder there is a multiplication of corruption and violence in the earth. If there is corruption and violence in the earth, why is it there? Obviously because people put it there. It wouldn’t be there if there were no people to put it there. Well if we are reacting to corruption and violence we are also playing our part in sustaining it. Some react to it because they think that is the only way to make things better.
We are concerned with righteous action, which is not based one iota in reaction. It is coming down from God out of heaven now, to be expressed now, to be revealed now, to be enjoyed now, that the wonder of it, the beauty of it, the glory of it, might be shared. There has begun to be an awakening to this. The New Jerusalem, the Kingdom of Heaven, whatever you want to call it, is here. What more precious experience could we know on earth than this truth? And it is entirely up to each one as to what is known. What a wonder, what a joy, what a beauty, what a glory, what magnificence it is, to share the revelation of the New Jerusalem on earth, the outpouring of the spirit of the Living God, the coming of the Comforter.
I am most thankful for the wonderful increased evidence there is, brought together now by those who are participating in the Music Conference here, of a blended oneness which is not in the least produced by human efforts but which is there to the extent that those concerned have awakened to the expression of the Living God in their own living experience. Then it is there; it doesn’t have to be made. And there is an acceptance of each one by every other one, all together, because there is trust in God, for one thing, and there is assurance that unconquerable life prevails. We don’t have to support it.
Emissaries have been inclined for many years to talk about support. There is really no necessity for support. Just express the spirit of the Living God. That is all that is required, and that will be all-inclusive. We see people who insist upon corruption and violence and perishing, but we are not willing that any should perish if we can provide anything that would assist them to live. So we do not exclude anyone. God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance, come into the new world, the world which is not just a figment of hopeful fancy but is a reality here and now. It is known to be real because it is our own experience, it is what we are, it is what we express. Love, joy—how beautiful is the Kingdom, the Kingdom which is here! Why should we insist, to the extent that we may have done so, to keep it hidden behind a veil? We keep it thus hidden because of our foolish human reactions to other people, to events.
There are events putting in an appearance on earth which seem to be very dangerous: “Oh we should react to those ones.” Really? Would that help? How would it help? No, there is “a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.” That is the only thing that will help. Let’s let it happen because we ourselves are clear as crystal. We have no attitudes which we impose upon other people. We are clear. As far as everybody on earth is concerned we are clear. There are events, yes, which look to be dangerous, and there are people present in all those events. We are concerned for the people, that they might come to repentance. How are they going to come to repentance unless the door is opened whereby they may do so? And who is the door? Where is the door? It is right here. We see people everywhere locked into this matter of violence. They see that as being useful in some way or they wouldn't be associated with it. Oh that all might come to repentance, out of the state of perishing, because there is present on earth the reality of the Kingdom of God, the reality of the New Jerusalem, by reason of those angels who have taken form on earth to offer this glorious opportunity to everyone everywhere.
I rejoice with you in an awareness of these things, an awareness which we share. The agreement that is, makes sure that what is inevitably happening will do so in the release of the greatest possible blessing on earth, that all that does not belong in God’s world may pass away. Everything is offered the opportunity of being in God’s world, but whatever does not accept that opportunity must surely pass away.
Glory to God in the Highest. How much beauty there is. How much beauty there is right here this morning. We may all thank God that we have eyes to see the coming of the Kingdom, because it is our coming forth. It isn’t coming from somewhere. It is what we are, coming forth. Is it more difficult to enjoy life than to think of life, and act as though it was a pain in the neck? Let us enjoy the Life of God. It is indeed glorious. There is constant increase [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2020/05/melchizedek-increase-grace-van-duzen.html] of the experience of beauty and of wonder. With one accord we may allow our own individual experience to center in these things. And the light shines. The intensity of love which radiates forth is all that is necessary to make all things new.
Our great LORD and holy KING, in Thee we know love, truth and life, for Thine—and so ours—is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory, forever. Aum-en.
Lillian Cecil — Martin, we live in the splendor of the New Jerusalem. It is people, we the people, who have made this Dome, this beautiful Dome. It is we the people who have sung. It is we the people who plant the flower. And it is we who have shared this glorious hour with you. The Word of the Lord has gone forth, and our hearts are full of thanksgiving.
Martin Cecil — All things come to pass as they should come to pass when the people are the Lord’s people.
