As we share a perspective view of the outworking of the creative cycles over the last four thousand years we discover that time ceases to separate. We might for a moment consider what occurred nineteen hundred years ago, when our Master was here. As we have looked at those events and at what it was He actually brought, does it seem like it was separated from us by nineteen centuries? One might almost say that it occurred yesterday, and the same thing is true when we look even further back, because our concern has been to refocalize the truth as the truth was present then. But it is also present now.

If we look at the events that occurred in the external sense, all the failures, the troubles, the difficulties, all these things, then that was a very long time ago; but the truth that was present, the truth which could have permitted a victorious outworking in the First Sacred School, is just as surely present now as it was then. So the intervening time vanishes when we are polarized in the truth. If we are polarized in historical events, then that was way, way back.

I would like to consider for a moment something of what the truth is as it relates to the presence of the LORD on earth nineteen centuries ago. Now I'm not talking about a Christian Lord or any other religious figure; I'm talking about the Truth of Being, the particular One who was present on earth in human form for a very special purpose. What Christians have come to believe with respect to that purpose is a very jumbled-up collection of concepts, barely indicating at all what it really was.

We have noted this morning [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/the-third-and-last-call.html] that He came to refocalize the truth as it related to the First Sacred School, and out of that to initiate the Second Sacred School, the second opportunity for man. His presence on earth was for this purpose. He was quite capable of providing what was necessary, offering the required example and leadership essential to enable those who would respond to move with Him in the development of the Second Sacred School. We need to see that Second Sacred School as relating—just as the First did—not just to a few people but to the whole world, the objective being to save the world; that is, to restore human beings to the state of being living souls, to restore MAN on earth.

He could well have done this, in fact that's what He came to do, but He ran into the usual human lethargy, lack of response and of course, in that connection, a good deal of opposition, so that it became evident rather quickly that those with whom He was dealing were not going to let Him do what He came to do. He certainly didn't come for His own benefit. He came to offer the greatest conceivable blessing to the children of men, and He proceeded at the beginning of His public ministry on this basis. But as I say, very shortly it became evident that the response was entirely inadequate to allow any sort of carrying through into what well could have taken place. One might suppose that, realizing this fact, He would be rather disappointed, to put it mildly. It is said that He wept — not for Himself but because He saw what human beings were going to do to themselves. However He was not subject to His feelings and He undertook to do the only thing that was left to do.

He had refocalized the truth of the First Sacred School and initiated the movement of the Second Sacred School. He certainly did not wish to let it go at that, so that there would only be another failure as there had been with respect to the First. So He accepted the responsibility of Himself representing the Third Sacred School — not only the Third Sacred School but carrying through into the Fourth, and in fact all the way to the Seventh. But this He undertook to do alone, because no one was moving with Him in the Second Sacred School; at least such movement as there was was completely inadequate. So, proceeding from the point where the collective victory in the Second Sacred School had to be abandoned, He took it all into Himself and proceeded in a way that was unbelievably lonely. He was absolutely alone. The disciples had very little understanding, in the general sense, of what was happening, even though one of them stayed close to Him, in the person of John, and there were a few of the women. They could not share what He was actually doing, because He was doing it alone. This was the only way to go.

If there had been response to His initiation of the Second Sacred School then there would have been those who were moving with Him and He could have carried it forward the Second Sacred School, with those who were with Him, into what was required from the standpoint of the Third Sacred School. But because those who were offered the opportunity didn't accept it He had to go the way alone. What a task! What an unbelievable undertaking, and yet He did it, in spite of everything. There was a transition, in other words, an uninterrupted and victorious transition, from the Second Sacred School into the Third insofar as He was concerned. There was no break. Having accepted that responsibility and moved on, He then proceeded through the succeeding Sacred Schools in victory, moving from one level of consciousness to the next, from the third to the fourth to the fifth to the sixth to the seventh — all the way through. This could be examined in somewhat greater detail but it is unnecessary at the moment. It wouldn't mean too much, because it's only comprehensible to those who actually travel the same path. So He did set the precedent of victory all the way.

He established what we have called the True Tone of Life for man, an actual vibratory radiation that has been sounding on earth all down the centuries. Human beings have reacted in peculiar ways to that sounding, not consciously knowing what it was, and we have a record of many of the historical events that have worked out from that time to this. Those historical events are just surface play, giving indication of something of human reaction to what was really occurring. Human beings have always thought that they were responsible for history, as though they were writing it themselves and nobody else had anything to do with it. But the fact of the matter is that human beings are more or less comparable to automatons, who are prodded into action by their reactions to what is happening from the standpoint of the True Tone of Life — the True Tone of Life that was set most specifically by this one man. It was set of course not by a man as such but by the LORD through a man. That Trumpet Tone [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/the-trumpet.html] has been sounding without diminishing for nineteen centuries. During that period human beings have swirled around in various ways, they've suffered a lot, they've put themselves through immense amounts of misery, and continue to do so, because they were simply reacting to the Tone instead of responding to it and letting it have some meaning in their living.

However, finally, as we have already noted, the Tone broke surface, so to speak, came to point in a man so that there might be a refocalization within the consciousness of mankind of the Sacred Schools that had gone before, the First and Second, allowing the Third Sacred School to take on body in a collective sense; in other words to be shared in by many — how many remains to be seen.

But all this is absolutely consequent upon what was done nineteen centuries ago through this lonely man, a much misunderstood man, misunderstood then and misunderstood ever since, whether by those who call themselves Christians or by anybody else. When He did proceed through the creative cycle in His own personal experience on earth He did what He might to assist those who were present with Him to come along into an experience of greater understanding, but they didn't get very far. You may recall, in the Gospel of John, Philip and Thomas, two of the disciples, had no faintest idea as to what it was that our Master was talking about. He'd been speaking: “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” And He said, “I go to prepare a place for you.” That's the way He was going, moving through these successive levels of consciousness in the creative cycle, the ascending cycle, thereby preparing the way. Nobody was going with Him at that time. The disciples were completely at sea. They enjoyed being with Him, they loved Him, but they didn't know what was happening and apparently no one has known since.

Some beliefs have been generated, some ideas have been produced, and there may have been a little truth back of some of these things. But only now, when it begins to surface and come within the range of human beings present experience, does it once more become meaningful. It becomes meaningful to the extent that it is experienced; not to the extent that it is thought about or discussed, or to the extent that doctrines are established — it means something only on the basis of actual experience. So because there begins to be some actual experience it begins to be meaningful. And for instance I can speak to you this evening about what I have been outlining and it at least makes some sense. You have some basis for understanding, and your understanding will be in exact proportion to your experience. So if you say that you got lost then you know that your experience lacks something!

I wish to emphasize this particularly in a way that allows a greater understanding of what it was that our Master was really doing as He walked this lonely way, just one person on the face of the earth. Now it's not quite so lonely, because there are more of us beginning to move in harmony with the Tone which He alone set. It's that Tone which carries all the way through as there are those who give it body. Presently our concern is to give it body at the third level, the Third Sacred School, that giving it body here there may be the creative action by which the door is opened to the Fourth Sacred School. The creative action we already recognize as being what is required to purify the heart, but until the heart is pure the Fourth Sacred School remains a dream. However, the Tone has been set at that level as well as this, and beyond. It's complete; it's all been done. There is the precedent of victory in this sense, something to be shared, something to be accepted and lived.

Human beings always think that they have to make something out of something or other; they're always making things out of something. But in this creative process there is nothing to be made. It's already been made, it's already a reality. The Tone is already sounding. It's already sounding in the first three levels of consciousness, because of what our LORD and KING did when He was in human form on earth. We know this to be true to the extent that we have touched and experienced the Tone to the extent that we have. How could we experience it if it wasn't there? So if we do experience it we know very well it's there. And because it is the Tone which He set, this is the Truth of Victory, and we find that He isn't back there nineteen centuries ago. He's right here! And we discover that we are in position to give body to that Tone.

You know, a lot of those who call themselves Christians have been looking for the second coming of Christ. Of course those who are involved in the pattern of Judaism are still looking for the first coming of the Messiah. When the Tone broke surface it could be said that's the point of the initiation of the second coming, or the first coming, whichever way you want to look at it. But the Tone could only break surface because there was a first coming. There wouldn't be a Tone to break surface if it wasn't so. When that happened it was brought to focus in a person on earth as it was. Then that's the initiation point for the second coming. After all it's the same Tone emerging again, but emerging not merely in relationship to one person but to what I suppose could well be called the chosen people, those who were willing to let it be so in relationship to themselves, that this Tone might be fleshed out, might have a flesh body. The Tone itself is what was described by those words I quoted this morning, the Breath of Life. It is the Breath of Life, the Breath of Life on the one hand, and the soul, composed of the dust of the ground, on the other — human flesh bodies on one hand, and the Breath of Life, the True Tone, Shekinah, the Christ, on the other. And they need to get together.

Now that getting together is produced, is made to be so, by the Breath of Life. Man became a Living Soul because of the Breath of Life, not merely because some dust had been collected together and shaped like a human being. There are lots of those shapes around. But where are the living souls? Or where is this Living Soul composed of many human bodies? This Body is drawn together by the Breath of Life and it passes through the various changes that were exemplified by the One who was called Jesus, after He wept. One of those experiences of course was the crucifixion. That was a tough one. Do you think that tough one is not coming for the body of mankind? Not one jot or tittle shall pass from the law until all be fulfilled. However, we are not concerned with the appearance of things but with the Breath of Life and the restoration of the Living Soul.

Of course that was portrayed in what was called the resurrection. Here the Tone was set through every level, and every level had its counterpart of external experience, until the point of what was finally called the ascension was reached. So the victory is there. And provided that there is a continuing attunement with that Tone the victory is available for immediate experience. But this is not to say that there is not the movement from level to level, and this is not to say that there are not corresponding events in the external sense which go with the levels relating to the body of mankind. Tribulation, it was called; not that there hasn't been a lot of tribulation all down the ages — but a very specific, intensified focalization of it, that it may be finished, that the agony may not have to continue on and on as it has over the past thousands of years. Our concern is with the Victory, with the Tone, with the Breath of Life, with Shekinah, with the Christ, the coming of the Christ — the coming of the Christ in the experience of human beings, the Glory of the LORD shining round about once again.

I read a passage from the Gospel of Matthew this morning. I'd like to read just a little further this evening:

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

“But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!”

The light of the body is the eye. This is spelled “e-y-e,” but it might conceivably be spelled with the one letter “I”. If you have self-consciousness, whatever the nature of that self may seem to be, that is the light to which reference is made here. You are aware of yourself; you have consciousness of some of the things at least that are going on around you. There is that much light. If the “I” is single, if your identity is one with true identity, the identity that centers in the LORD, then your whole body is full of light; the Breath of Life is breathed into your body. You recall, speaking of the Word, that in Him was Life and the Life was the Light of men. If your identity is the true identity, you are a Living Soul. For your identity to be the true identity you must be attuned with the ascending aspect of the creative cycle. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/delivered-from-evil.html] In other words your treasure must be in heaven, must be in Shekinah, in the quality, the character, of the Christ. If that is your treasure, nothing else is your treasure. When your treasure is in heaven, that's where it is. It isn't in the earth. However if it's in the earth it isn't in the heaven.

“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” And where your heart is, there will your identity be also. If your heart is in the earth, there your identity is. If your heart is in the earth, you are attuned to the descending aspect of the creative cycle and you are consequently a dying soul. That is the disintegrating aspect of the creative cycle. This is the “I” which is evil; the evil aspect of the creative cycle is the descending aspect. There's nothing wrong with it; it should be there. There's nothing wrong with evil in this sense. The good aspect of the creative cycle is the ascending aspect of it; and they both belong, they're both interdependent. You can't have one without the other. The only point is that human beings have no business being identified with the descending aspect of the creative cycle. If they are, then their “I” is evil, their identity is evil, and they know it to be so because they disintegrate. That's the way it works.

But if your heart is in heaven because your treasure is there, then you are identified with the ascending aspect of the creative cycle, which carries you into heaven. The descending aspect carries you into hell. Hell may be an experience for a while, but ultimately it's nothing. It relates to the grave, where there is complete disintegration insofar as that particular form is concerned. Of course people try to stop that nowadays too. They embalm bodies, try to preserve them; some people even freeze them. Of course the embalming trade is a very ancient one. But what is disintegrating should disintegrate. Let it disintegrate. That's what needs to happen; that's the descending aspect of the creative cycle. Human beings are always trying to stop it happening. Of course they feel it happening while they still have a little life left, and the endeavor then is to try to prevent it from happening. But if one is attuned to the descending aspect of the creative cycle, one should disintegrate! That's what should happen. There's nothing wrong with it. It's a painful process, a miserable process, an unfortunate process, but it's what should happen if human beings are attuned that way. Because this has been the state in human experience for as long as memory goes back, it is thought to be normal, or the only one that's possible. So try to restrain the grim reaper so that we can enjoy (?) a few more years of misery!

But apparently nobody ever thought that it might be profitable to let polarity be changed so that one was attuned with the ascending aspect of the creative cycle, which is just as surely there as the descending. Because human beings have been so insulated from it they have apparently thought it didn't exist; or if it did exist it only existed after they were dead, when in actual fact, by just looking around, particularly in the springtime, it is evident that there is an ascending aspect of the creative cycle. And somehow or other our bodies got built, and our minds, such as they are, developed, and the capacity of emotion appeared, and our ability to sense things in a spiritual sense is present. All this relates to the ascending aspect of the creative cycle.

But the key is in this passage here: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” And where your heart is, there will your sense of self be. If your sense of self is in heaven — that is, in Shekinah; that is, in the evidence of the Presence of the One Who Dwells, the true identity — and if your heart is with this evidence, then your experience is of the true identity. It might be said that the true identity of MAN is something; the false identity of man is nothing. Man proceeds in his present condition from feeling that he must be something somehow, in the cycles of disintegration, to the point where he realizes he is nothing; and when he realizes that, he realizes nothing.

Let the “I” be single. When the experience of human identity is consequent upon attunement with the descending aspect of the creative cycle there is a scattering abroad, a disintegration. But when there is attunement with the ascending aspect of the creative cycle there is an integration. It leads into the increasing experience of integrity, singleness, oneness. Oneness is another way of saying Love. True identity centers in Love, because that is the centering of the Christ. The Fire that Burns, the symbol of Love, is the centering of Shekinah. Why would there be any question as to where we should lay up treasure? Human beings frantically try to lay up treasure in earth to give themselves a sense of meaning and a sense of security, but it doesn't produce it, does it? This is the promise of the devil, isn't it? “Just fall down and worship me and I'll give you all the kingdoms of this world and the glory of them.” And human beings go after the carrot which is dangling from their own heads, but all they find is nothing.

Lift up your eyes that your treasure may be in heaven, that all that is right and true of the character of God, of the True Tone of Life, may be the treasure in one's own experience. Regardless of what's going on around, regardless of anything in the earth, let that be the treasure so that what is expressed is that. And as that is increasingly expressed, the Tone of Life increasingly sounds, the heart is purified, the expression intensifies, and behold, all things are made new, because there is no veil between heaven and earth anymore. And what is in heaven is reflected in the earth, and the treasure that was in heaven is revealed in the earth. But nobody is trying to lay up the treasure in earth. There's no need to. Once the treasure is accepted in heaven then the earth reflects it and man is once more a Living Soul instead of a dying one.

This is the Way, the Truth and the Life. I certainly didn't invent it. I don't have that kind of inventive genius. It didn't need inventing. It's already the truth, but most human beings have indicated that they were not too interested in the truth, at least if it interfered with what they wanted to do themselves. But finally there are those who are beginning to come clear of the prejudices and the traditions which hold human beings in the meaningless round which leads to the grave. And relinquishing the treasures of earth, accepting the treasures of heaven, there is participation once more with God in His creative purposes here in His world; for it is His world. It doesn't belong to this creature which has been calling himself man. Let us share in letting the creative process work as it should, because we are once again polarized in the LORD. Behold, all things are made new.

How greatly blessed we are to share an understanding of these things in a far greater measure than the disciples of the Master shared with Him when He was on earth. And of course an understanding that is far greater than was shared by those who were with Moses when he was on earth. Beginning to sense the Tone as we do, we sense the Victory also. I suppose it might be said that we smell Victory — because there is no way by which it can't happen.
