My Representation Relates To The Father

My  Representation  Relates  To  The  Father

from  Assembly — Sunrise Ranch

Martin Cecil   April 21, 1981

We have the necessity of assuming the responsibility ourselves—because we have been offered the opportunity to do so and have received the training that is essential—assuming responsibility for this aspect of the mind of mankind which extends the authority, the direction and the encompassment. Encompassment is important because there is an awareness of the wholeness of things; there's not just working with little bits and pieces. So the Son, the Son consciousness, which represents the Father.

If we speak in terms of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost levels of consciousness, the Son represents the Father. This was most clearly demonstrated by Jesus: “I and the Father are one.” The Son represents the Father. And of course the Holy Ghost does too, but from the subconscious standpoint. The Son representing the Father is the one who carries the authority, an authority that may or may not be acknowledged by the irrational minds of human beings; but the fact of the matter is that the Son carries the authority when the Son is present. There begins to be some evidence of the emergence of this Son state of consciousness and you are aware that this relates to your own experience.

Here is the authority which is capable of providing right direction, so that right use may be made of knowledge, amongst other things, and right encompassment of knowledge, amongst other things, so that there is the ability to let it be incorporated into the creative action that needs to appear under the direction of the Son. We have recognized that there is increasingly an offering upward through people who are rising up of their various levels of expertise or knowledge. We don't need to imagine that we know everything about everything; but we know what is necessary from the standpoint of the spiritual direction that is essential. There are plenty of people, all over the place, who have the expertise and the knowledge which we are in position to use when we truly represent the Father. And this comes increasingly into our hands.

There isn't any one of us with respect to whom it might not be said that in the field of expertise there isn't someone else who is more knowledgeable. We would easily admit it, acknowledge the fact. It doesn't put us down at all, because we have a very different role to play.

We have the responsibility of the Son, the Son state of consciousness. The Son state of consciousness is not separate from the Holy Ghost state of consciousness. There are the conscious and subconscious aspects—they are one. Now this relates to the matter of communication. The first order of communication was summarized a long time ago when the first great commandment was articulated. There is no right communication between human beings until there is the communication established with the Lord, upward communication, communication with the Source. This is the first order of business. This is what makes possible unification with the Tone; that unified experience with the Tone is the Son experience. The Tone proceeds from the Father; the Son reveals the Father on earth. So here is the first element of communication that is required. We have, I'm sure, all seen this; we've been aware of it subconsciously as well as consciously—that we have nothing to offer, we have no authority, we have no ability to provide right direction, we have no understanding, no capacity to encompass, except on the basis of our oneness with the Father. When there is oneness with the Father, the Son is a reality on earth and there is then the ability to encompass and direct in the creative achievement of what is necessary.

Now we may see this as initially relating to an internal matter, just as we've seen it in relationship to ourselves as individuals. There is the same element with respect to the body as a whole; there is something to happen internally. But at some point along the way I'm sure we all came to the awareness that until the stance began to turn outward, what was to be achieved internally would always remain under a ceiling. We know that we cannot isolate ourselves and say, “Now I'm going to let all my heart be purified so that what is of the Father may come down and find release in my conscious mind as the Son consciousness and my subconscious mind as the Holy Ghost consciousness.” We may see that that is what is necessary, but it's not going to be done if we isolate ourselves and concentrate on this business of cleaning things up internally. Something begins to happen when we get beyond that self-centered condition and begin to recognize that there's something beyond ourselves as individuals so that we begin to give expression to the reality rather than just expect the reality to somehow achieve remarkable works in ourselves internally.

It is the movement, the expression of life, that cleans things up. It is the movement of the Holy Spirit through the subconscious mind of mankind that is in the process of cleaning things up, and has been for two thousand years. Things are not being cleaned up by all the bright ideas that human beings have had, and all the marvelous things that they have done in the field of science and technology and politics and economics, and all these various areas. This is the world which the human nature consciousness thinks is so important. But there is another world where the spirit of God works, and this is what is important. It's been happening and we have emerged to a level in our own awareness where we see that it's been happening. We're not the only ones who see this. Others have seen what's happening in a general sense, but they don't really know why it's happening, or how it's happening, what it is that is at work, and have not yet an awareness of the reality of the emergent Son state of consciousness. Well that's fine. It’s much better if people remain somewhat unaware, for a while yet anyhow, so as to give those who participate in the Son state of consciousness an opportunity to prove out in their own experience the validity of that state, prove out the authority of it.

Now there's a balance in here. We can't prove anything out much if we're shrinking violets. But neither can we prove anything out if we become bombastic and arrogant. It is a quiet thing, but something that is very sure. But we are indeed immovable, in the sense of being pushed around by human nature. So there has been the working of these things, of which we are now aware. We begin to see with greater clarity our own personal responsibility in the field of authority and direction, making right use of what is brought to us rising up from the subconscious mind of mankind. It all comes into the hands of the Lord through the Son.

In this unfoldment of things there have been various necessities which certainly not be required when the resurrection has taken place. One of the necessities during this time has been the willingness on the part of all concerned to occupy what may well be called substitute positions. There isn't one of us here who hasn't had to do this. And we still have to do it. What has been working hasn't clarified to the point where the absolute reality has emerged. We can see these substitute requirements in more or less elementary ways—obviously in the developement of Sunrise Ranch here, Uranda was driving around on a caterpillar tractor. It was hardly what he came to do, and yet it was an essential factor in what needed to work out. I personally have done the same thing of course; all of us have done various things—and still do.

I doubt if anything is really finalized yet. It's all substitute; virtually everything is substitute. Now there are very many reasons for this, of course, because the whole outworking in the body of mankind is involved here. It's not just what is working out in the Emissary ministry. It's what's working out in the whole body of mankind. And there are those within the range of our Emissary ministry who had to hold the line in certain places—here or there—in a sense, waiting for this to unfold to the point where the reality could fill in. It wasn't on hand to do it yet.

I suppose part of that might relate to the matter of age in human beings. Maybe we have waited around for a lot of you to grow up to the point where you could be useful. I mean physical age, as well as the other kind—spiritual maturity. And there are those who have specific parts to play, putting in an appearance from time to time, as the individuals concerned reach the point where they are capable of doing it. If there is some particular task to be taken care of, and we look around and we say, “Well there's really no one can do that”—this from my standpoint has often been the case—well, one has to select the nearest to it, and allow that to move. It moves more or less automatically anyway. And people find themselves in this position and that position, not so much because they were appointed to be there but because they were on hand to do the job. Well, here's a substitute, holding the line, doing the best they knew how while waiting—probably the individual didn't realize that this was the case—while waiting for whoever it was to come up and be available to do what was required in that task.

As I say, with respect to all of us, we've been holding substitute positions. I know I certainly have. I have functioned over the years very much as though I was a part, a direct part, of this body of the Son that was developing—which in fact, I am not. Perhaps the way things are coming to point now this can be more clearly seen. My representation relates to the Father. But the Father is represented by the Son on earth. And the Son relates to this Assembly, and many others. This is why in this Assembly we are concerned that the responsibility should begin to be taken from within the Assembly for what it is that happening. In assuming that responsibility, there are those who begin to find themselves in positions of particular focus of authority. This, to some extent, shifts and changes around, not always the same. It depends what the immediate necessity is—not so much anymore merely in relationship to the internal process that is working out through the whole body of mankind, but what the body of mankind is supposed to be doing on earth!

I suppose you could say it can't do very much until it comes out of the tomb. But there is, presumably, something to be done while the body is still in the tomb. How is it going to get out? Well we have seen this coming to point with respect to that stone blocking the entrance. Something has to be done about that. Gradually, of course, coming into the garden beyond, there is an awareness that mankind has a purpose that far transcends any of these petty internal matters. The body of mankind needs to be a healthy body, capable of functioning in a balanced way; but there is creative action to occur by reason of that body, creative action beyond itself.

In the self-centered state, human beings are always just thinking about themselves—and the human race has just thought about itself and how it can survive. Well it needs to know why, what would the reason be for human survival on earth. Presently there doesn't seem to be much. But we begin to be aware of the fact that there is a body here; it is emerging from the tomb; the stone is in the process of being rolled away by reason of the action from within the body itself, so that there may be an awakening to the reality of the fact of the garden. The garden was there while the tomb was sealed, but inside the tomb it wasn't possible to know that that was so. Only coming forth is the fact known that the garden is present. We have a certain theoretical awareness in this regard, but as yet the factual reality has not been known because the stone still blocks the exit from the tomb. So life occurs in the tomb. Resurrection reaches a certain level still in the tomb; and for the moment this is the state of affairs. We can't rush it, but let it work the way it is working.

I have a particular representation here of the Father. There is representation of the Son and of the Holy Ghost also. Perhaps we could see these particularly finding their focus in Michael and Bill, so that there is representation here of Father, Son and Holy Ghost. That's about as far as it needs to go at the moment. These points of focus all represent something which is of far vaster proportions. While there is an inclination to think of God as being one person, it is usually thought of as a pretty big person, somehow. In other words, God is of vast proportions. Not the same type of dimensions as are known in the external world, but nevertheless of vast proportions. So a point of representation is of something vast. The point of representation of the Son is also considerable, including all of you and many more—and the point of representation of the Holy Ghost is of something, in the sense of volume, vaster still.

There begins to be the emergence of something as an operational function, divine function, here on earth—identifiable—seen from the standpoint of representation but also known from the standpoint of the fact of the matter in one’s own experience. And so these things are moving. The creative cycle is at work, raising something up so that it emerges out of the fog and can be seen. We rejoice to let it happen. I am sure that all of you here gathered in your representation of the Son consciousness are delighted to let this emerge—this state of oneness, unification—emerge in your own experience as you assume increasingly the responsibility for what is emerging through the Son consciousness which you share.

Martin Put His Hand To The Plow

Martin  Put  His  Hand  To  The  Plow

from
Collective Representation of the Sun of Righteousness

Bill Bahan   April 11, 1982

Fire, the unquenchable fire. But it's a fire that brings creativity, isn’t it? It’s not a fire of destructiveness. It’s the fire of love under the control of truth, and that fire brings only that which is beautiful and of good report. First I would read a verse from Luke, the 9th chapter, 62nd verse: “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

It was just forty-two years ago this month that Martin met Uranda in person in Vancouver. I’ve often imagined that at that particular meeting the angels of heaven surely rejoiced, when these two great spirits came together in person on earth. Martin at that time put his hand to the plow. I think the plow is a pretty good word for it too. Never once did he turn back. Various things worked out, very specific cycles actually. In 1947 Martin actually came into his high calling in the Christ. At that time in an outer sense Martin became the second Bishop of the Church of the Emissaries of Divine Light—right on time, no faltering. Seven more years, Uranda left this sphere of things and Martin had the total responsibility. Uranda and Martin together had plenty on their plate to handle, and now he was alone with it. But his hand was on the plow. Once your hand is really on the plow you know nothing else but to go forward—couldn’t do anything else anyway.

Various other cycles worked out; I won’t reiterate them now—everything was done decently and in order—no faltering along the way. Now we come to this seventh cycle. “Six days shalt thou labour,” and on the seventh the Lord rested. I think even tonight it’s significant that Martin could sit back and all of us here could come together, Michael and I having the responsibility particularly of bringing it to focus, but all of us here together giving this service, so that the Lord could rest. We have the responsibility, and the Lord hasn’t left us comfortless; we have been adequately prepared, so that we may assume the responsibility which is ours. We are responsible for this body. We’ve had this great point of representation with us these many years, but now we are absolutely at the point where we need to have a clear consciousness that it is our responsibility.

This morning Martin was considering with us some words from the Book of Malachi. I would just read the verse which he shared with us: “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings.” I suppose many reading that would say, “Well isn’t that wonderful. Finally we’re going to be healed.” We aren’t here to be healed; we’re here to offer the healing. And that consciousness of the Sun of righteousness comes to those that fear the name of the Lord. Now, we know that word fear as used in this context means reverence: “For those who revere the name of the Lord.” The responsibility which we have can only be done by the Sun of righteousness, nothing else. It is only as there are those of us sharing that particular consciousness that what needs to be done can be done. Martin has brought us to this particular point because of his representation of the Sun of righteousness; that’s what did the plowing.

I looked up that word plow, thought you might find it interesting: “Any implement for cutting, turning over, stirring or breaking up the soil.” I think we could put the word consciousness instead of soil there. That’s what’s been happening: the breaking up and the turning over and the stirring of the consciousness, our own consciousness, so that we have come to the point where we may collectively represent the Sun of righteousness.

There are very exact requirements to offer that representation. “But unto those that fear my name”: that’s the requirement. The third of the Ten Commandments, I’m sure you know, goes something like this: Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; He shall not hold thee guiltless that takest His name in vain. That doesn’t say that we shouldn't take the name of the Lord; it just says that we shouldn't take it in vain. Those who fear the name of the Lord take the name of the Lord. That has been one of the problems along the way, hasn’t it, that the Lord has had to work with, to find those who had the guts to take His name.

We might remember that Moses was a little reluctant to take His name. He offered all kinds of excuses as to why he couldn’t take it: couldn’t speak. Of course the Lord didn’t let him get off the hook. But why do you think he was reluctant to take the name of Lord at that particular time? Because he saw very clearly that there were no more excuses, that once that name is taken one is responsible from that point forward for creative self-expression. No more can one use any excuses, particularly the excuse of our human heredity, for not bringing forth that which is right and true of the Sun of righteousness.

We take the name of the Lord and we are very careful that we do not take that name in vain. We would never besmirch the name of the Lord. That above all is most precious to us. We love the name of the Lord; it is our name; it is what we are. And consequently we are very careful that that name is revealed honestly and clearly in our living. When that name is taken, and it is maintained in expression, the Sun of righteousness is revealed. There are those, seemingly, who are hesitant about taking that name. We recognize that in order for one to even come to the point where they may see clearly the responsibilities they have for the taking of that name, there is a conditioning that precedes it. Moses didn’t come to this realization while he was in Egypt. He got out of Egypt; certain things worked out in his own experience to bring him to the point where he could take that name. There were some wonderful provisions that the Lord offered while he was on the backside of the desert. He had training and conditioning during that time to bring him to that particular point. So here we are at this particular point.

In the latter part of this 4th chapter of the Book of Malachi these are the words: “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”

You may recall that when Ahab, the weak-kneed husband of Jezebel, was looking for Elijah he sent out his servant. And while his servant was in the way, he met Elijah, and Elijah, through that servant, sent the word back to Ahab. The word was, “Tell him that Elijah is here.” No shilly-shallying. “Tell him that Elijah is here.” Elijah, the Sun of righteousness, the same spirit. Elijah is here because his spirit is here, because we are here; we are preparing the way of the Lord.

What a marvelous thing to see how all has worked out to bring us to this particular point. The patience of the Lord, long-suffering, to maintain that point on earth so that we could all come here tonight, and we could gather in His name and take the responsibility truly that is before us, all of us.

So I give deep thanks unto the Lord for His special servants that He has sent, and I give deep thanks for those who have allowed their hearts to be turned back again so that we may in fact reveal the truth that Elijah is here, that the Sun of righteousness is in fact on earth because we’re on earth.

A Focus Point Of Continuity

A  Focus  Point  Of  Continuity

from  Assembly Session — Sunrise Ranch

Martin Cecil   April 23, 1981

We are concerned with creative processes. In all fields we need to have a conscious awareness that there is a creative process at work, quite apart from the specific nature of what it is that is opening up. It all relates to a basic creative unfoldment to which we are responsible for giving direction. Zeal, enthusiasm, are very useful states of experience because they bring substance together—the essential spiritual substance generated—and make it available for right use. We need to be very sure that it is used rightly.

We are all aware that whatever may be emerging in the field of differentiation does so on the basis of the fact that there is a point of centering, a point of orientation, from which it may happen. It has taken many years for the development of a sufficiently stable core point of spiritual centering to enable a certain proliferation to begin to occur. This differentiating process all springs out of the fact that we have a central core point capable of encompassing the creative spirit of God which may then have the opportunity of specific differentiation in various fields. We are beginning to see this differentiation take place but there is a continuing necessity to recognize that it is part of the same creative process that went before. It's easy for human beings to go off in all directions. I'm sure that all of us have creative imaginations—imagination is fine when it is held in the creative design of things. It is all very natural. It's something that's springing out of the fact that we have a base or a foundation from which to work. We have the sensing that things are moving in a general sense quite rapidly.

This is chiefly because the movement has come within the range of our conscious awareness—some of it at least. Let us not imagine that it was not moving before we became aware of it. It was already on the move. We have some consciousness now of the nature of that movement. Mention was made about going around and coming in the back door, so to speak—there is the spirit of God which bypasses the conscious mind and works subconsciously. This is the creative process that has been at work. It had to be this way because the focus of the Son on earth was rejected so what was to happen couldn't happen primarily from that standpoint. The conscious mind of man had to be bypassed. You can see that necessity. We have something of an awareness of this in our own fields of action.

It is what penetrates the heart that opens things up.

If you come up against the conscious minds of people, they're ready for an argument or even a fight. So it's much wiser not to deal in conscious confrontations if possible. We let it come around from another direction where the conscious mind is not aware. As long as people don't know what it is—or think they know what it is that is springing to them, something that they could easily accept—they will accept it. But the very moment the conscious mind gets in there they won't have anymore to do with it. Of course it has been necessary to have a focus of continuity all the way through which will be a continuing fact—whether anyone likes it or not is beside the point. It's what has to be there. Differentiations are only meaningful because there was something out of which the differentiation could occur. So, we need to be very careful that we never deny that in our own consciousness. We may not stress it in the consciousness of others—probably wise not to do so because they have their concept—but it isn't necessary for us to try to argue anyone out of their idea. What we know, we know; and that's what should be, and
there is the foundation.

So what's happening comes around from another direction in human experience, and what has been happening has been happening for a long time. It didn't just start yesterday or a hundred years ago. It's been going, in a very specific sense, for over nineteen centuries. We become aware of something moving quite rapidly now. It comes out into the open; we know it. Before we didn't know it and there was perhaps a certain complacency—there certainly has been a certain complacency in the human world—but now nobody can be complacent anymore because things are emerging to a level where there is some consciousness at least of something happening. Before it was so deep down that nobody knew anything much about it consciously. But now it's coming out and consciously a lot of people are becoming aware of something.

From our standpoint we can take advantage of what is happening. It isn't that this wholistic thing is all that important. None of these things are anything of themselves. They are just the way human beings presently interpret what is happening. Coming more to the level of consciousness, they begin to put forms on these things and it is revealing to those who have some awareness of spirit as to what it is that is happening, what these forms are that are putting in an appearance, and we can take advantage of them. We didn't invent wholism. We didn't have to invent any of these things because there were all those round about feeling something moving and ready to put a form on it. Some of these forms may be valuable—not for themselves but for the people who are associated with them. So we can take advantage in various ways.

Always there is a very exact creative process if it is allowed to work the way it should, if we don't go off half-cocked as they say. This creative process always starts with a point of focus—developing out of the fact that the core of things is present—and it moves out to this area of differentiation. As there is a specific differentiation, that becomes the core for whatever is to happen next. Therefore, it is most important that whatever that core proves to be it should be firmly established, be a stable point, out of which differentiation can further come. Here is something very specific happening, and let that specific happening provide the focus, the core, for whatever is to differentiate out of that. We need to see that these things work in a very exact way and we need to be careful not to run before the Lord. Things can be helpfully developed. Development is occurring because there is a point of centering for it. Before it begins to proliferate into facilities here, facilities there, for doing what hasn't yet been done at the center would very easily abort the creative cycle that is moving. Let it be done at the point, wherever that point may be—let it be developed, let it be established, in that form so that there is a focus of something that is being done, and not hope that something will be done here, there and everywhere. Let it be done at center first!

One can have developed possibilities in one's consciousness—but the focus always needs to be established first. It was when Sunrise Ranch was established here years ago that something could begin to gel in other places. So we need to be aware in our own conscious understanding of creative processes as to how these things work so that we coordinate whatever we do with the way it works and not try to cause it to work in a way that might seem to be useful but isn't specifically the way the creative process works. I delight with the desire to let things expand and this is what they must do, of course, but let us let it be done step by step. Maybe nowadays we're not so hesitant in our steps and maybe one step will follow another more quickly as we leap upon the mountains and skip upon the hills but obviously if you're going to do that you have to have a very developed sense of balance—otherwise there would be disaster.

This emphasizes the point that always something needs to be done in what we have referred to on occasion as a miniature way. The happening will happen effectively to the extent that in the miniature situation it was done with understanding and done well. If there tend to be distractions, then it is because those concerned either didn't see or had forgotten what the real purpose of such a focus as occurs was. It was relative to something much larger. The doing may be a very small thing but it has to be done even in the very small thing exactly so, then out of that can spring far more; not as I say necessarily in the development of that little point as such but nevertheless that little point is the starting point for what is going to expand maybe in seemingly somewhat unrelated ways.

We need to view all our fields of action in this way so that we don't merely see them as something in and of themselves. We can all do lots of things but we need to recognize that we are on hand to do always something more than the restricted conditions that are established by the seeming job, whatever it is. That is just a vehicle, a means, by which we can do what we are there to do, and doing what we are there to do is always the core point for what should subsequently, inevitably one might say, develop out of it. One is giving a focus to something that is already moving subconsciously on the basis of the working of the spirit of God, and if we are working with the spirit of God consciously, well these things come together. And they always start at the point of focus for the development of the core, out of which the expansion may then begin to proliferate. But the core needs to have done something before the proliferation occurs otherwise the proliferation will prove to be nothing.

So we are conscious indeed of our spiritual responsibility for the development of these creative cycles and we see how it happens, and we see the importance individually of what we personally are doing in our own particular creative fields to allow what is happening subconsciously in the larger body of mankind to be given a focus. Who else is going to give these things focus? Only those who have awakened sufficiently to be conscious of their purpose, of their commission, of their reason for being here on earth, which is to give focus to these things. There's no use to have an imaginary focus. There's been lots of that actually, but it must come down to specifics. What one does! What one does in the specific field where one is—where something of a creative nature is our specific field of responsibility. There are those specific fields which come to point with respect to our own creative responsibilities.

It's all the creative process that goes on by reason of our presence. Because we are here, it's set in motion—when we take responsibility for doing whatever it is we're here to do. And let us not indulge in vain imagination. Creative imagination! There's quite a distinction here. Vain imagination usually relates to daydreaming for one thing but also to hopes. What are your hopes and expectations? Hope is something that needs to pass away. We don't hope anything is going to happen. We know darn well something is going to happen and we need to make sure that what needs to happen does happen. We're responsible for that. Other people may have their hopes but sooner or later they need to let them go too.

We handle what is here now. We don't use our imagination to think, “Well, it would be nice if something else was here now or there's more opportunity than I have right now.” We don't need any more opportunity than we have right now. We don't need anything different than we have right now. It is the way it is and if we accept the responsibility of doing what we are here to do now, then let tomorrow take care of itself. That will happen rightly but if you've got some hopes stuck in there somewhere, you're trying to influence things to move toward that fulfilment that you envision and you spoil it. Let it be what it is but do something now. The thing that can be done now; not the thing that can only be done in imagination now.

How very practical and down to earth spiritual expression is. It doesn't carry us away into flights of foolish fancy but keeps us where we belong, doing what we are here to do. I certainly am delighted that there is quick movement, quick response, quick willingness to allow everything to happen. But everything is going to happen in its own creative way. We become aware increasingly what that creative way is so that we're right in alignment with it. Then it's allowed to happen the way it should and it will happen more quickly. We become experts because we become accustomed to moving in the creative cycle the way it moves. Heretofore our experience has perhaps been somewhat ponderous, but we have gained understanding and expertise and so we can begin to let it move more quickly but it moves the same way. So allowing this creative process to continue we do, as ever, find that all things work together to perfection.
