Thou Shalt Bear True Witness

from

Thou  Shalt  Bear  True  Witness

Martin Cecil   November 6, 1977

What a rich blessing it is to be together on these occasions in our Chapel that we may share the increased expression of the Word of God to fulfil the purposes of God. We would leave behind the purposes of human nature and offer the capacity of our earthly consciousness to be filled with the state of heavenly consciousness. If this is to be so, earthly consciousness must have space to contain heavenly consciousness. The clutter that has been present in the earthly state of consciousness is to be entirely relinquished so that there may be room in the house, room in the inn, for the heavenly state of consciousness. That state of consciousness is heavenly because of the Word, Shekinah, the evidence of the presence of the One Who Dwells. The earthly state of consciousness becomes the heavenly state of consciousness when it is open to receive that state and there is room to receive it. Then Shekinah, the Word of God, can be born into expression on earth.

You will recall some words imputed to the Master toward the conclusion of His ministry, when He said: “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.” I think the usual view with respect to that statement is that if He had gone ahead and said these things the disciples couldn't have stood it; it would have been too much for them. Perhaps this may be one way of looking at it but we may also see that it wasn't the season for birth. Gestation was still occurring; it wasn't the season for birth. The Word of God which needed to be spoken, to be brought forth, could only be brought forth in its own seasons. The earthly capacity of consciousness is the womb for this bringing forth, that the Word of God that needs to find expression in the moment may do so in its seasons.

Being brought forth into expression on earth, by reason of the earthly capacity of consciousness, this birth occurs because there is something to be born. That something to be born must be present in the earthly capacity of consciousness. When the earthly capacity of consciousness is filled with the heavenly state of consciousness Shekinah is present—the Word is present to be born into expression in its own seasons. Here we see again the nature of the creative process. What moves moves according to the design of things and there are very definite seasons for that movement. We have seen these seasons as related to the Four Forces for instance, and their sequence of dominance. We have recognized the seasons from the standpoint of the creative spiral: “Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season?”—bringing forth. We are to bear the Word of God.

Obviously if we are to be successful in bringing forth the Word of God we need to be able to stand it. If we see this in terms of childbirth we may understand easily that there is need for training for this athletic event. If there is resistance to the processes of childbirth it becomes very uncomfortable indeed. Resistance brings discomfort—we have noted this in relationship to every aspect of living. There is something to be brought forth, namely the Word of God. If the capacity of earthly consciousness is being used for other things then the creative cycles which are on the move anyway are going to bring a certain amount of discomfort. If one is not moving with what is moving, but is moving in some contrary way, that is resistance and it brings discomfort. The coming of the Comforter is the experience when there is movement with the processes of bringing forth the Word of God. That becomes a creative experience. It may involve a certain amount of stress but it is a delightful experience.

The words are used in the Book of Revelation with respect to the woman who was with child and “pained to be delivered.” The word pained as it is translated is perhaps a mistranslation. Because women have suffered a very great deal in childbirth the first word that would spring to mind in this regard would be this: “Pained to be delivered.” But here it is simply being indicated that the season for deliverance had arrived and something was to be brought forth. In the bringing-forth process there is always some stress. There is nothing wrong with stress. It only becomes a painful experience if the stress of bringing forth is resisted.

We are talking specifically here of the bringing forth of the Word of God. The Word of God is not merely an individual thing. We may see it quite easily in relationship to what is brought forth through the body which we properly compose. It is what the body brings forth that carries the importance. Of course the body cannot bring forth unless there are those composing it who cooperate in the process. If some who should be composing this body are resisting the bringing forth, then not only those who are resisting suffer the consequences but everybody else too, because it is one body.

As we begin to reawaken to the experience of the heavenly state of consciousness we are awakening also to the Word of God. The Word, Shekinah, is the evidence of the presence of the One Who Dwells. If the Word is present, if Shekinah is present, the reason for this is also present. Insofar as our collective body is concerned, the One Who Dwells I have referred to as the Archangel. The evidence of the presence of the Archangel is the Word of God, is Shekinah. The angels who compose this Heavenly Body are the Shekinah of the Archangel. The angels are the evidence of the presence of the Archangel. Each angel who is here present on earth in the composition of this body has a human facility of expression. Primarily we see this in terms of the earthly capacity of consciousness, the womb through which the Word of God is to be born into the world. As we are talking of these things, and there is no resistance in you to the spirit of what we share, you do not form concepts with respect to the words that are spoken but there is an actual creative experience. In times past there have been services where nearly everyone present was forming concepts about what was being said. To that extent there was no actual movement in what was happening. If we are busy forming concepts we are excluded from whatever experience was available in the moment. So the use of words, which is essential in this particular pattern of the creative process, is certainly not to generate human concepts but to make it possible for all concerned to participate in something that is actually happening, in a creative process, in the birth of the Word of God into expression on earth.

The Word of God that is being born in the moment certainly is borne witness to by the words that are spoken. But the Word of God is not merely being born by reason of the fact that words are spoken but by reason of the earthly capacity of consciousness in all who are here present being available to let it happen. It is happening, rightly, through your earthly consciousness just as surely as it is happening through mine. We share this birth. The earthly capacity of consciousness rightly bears witness to the truth. It is the facility by which the truth, the Word of God, the Shekinah, may be born into expression on earth. It is not the light, but it bears witness of the light. It makes possible the revelation of that true light, not merely in the individual sense but in the sense of this body as a whole—for the angels are the light which is to be born into expression by reason of the earthly capacity of consciousness. That light could not be born into expression without the earthly capacity of consciousness. That capacity is there to bear witness to the light.

Obviously the earthly capacity of consciousness has been accustomed to bearing false witness. The light is not revealed in the world, in the general sense, by reason of this earthly capacity of consciousness in human beings. But something else is being revealed—there is something borne. So we can see clearly enough that there has been a failure to keep that particular commandment, “Thou shalt not bear false witness.” Very few people have had any clue as to what that meant. We begin to see what it means. Everybody without exception has been bearing false witness. Of course we have to recognize that we have been bearing false witness, if there is to be any interest in bearing true witness. If there is no recognition that false witness has been borne then there is no incentive to bear true witness, because it is assumed that the false witness is true witness. So the Ten Commandments are, in a general sense, couched in negative terms—“Thou shalt not”—because there must be a recognition of the fact that one was doing something that one should not do before one will be interested in doing what one should do. Of course once we see that we shouldn't be bearing false witness, as presumably we have, then the commandment is Thou shalt bear true witness. Then it begins to mean something in our own awareness and hopefully in our own experience.

The true witness is of the True Light, of Shekinah, of the Word of God. The capacity of consciousness in man in the earthly sense makes possible the bearing of this true witness. The true witness is borne moment by moment in daily living. It isn't born as a sort of grand crescendo at some point. It is a constant and consistent thing rightly. What is born through the individual, when it is true witness, offers what is needful into the whole. What is so born maintains the well-being of the whole, and as there is well-being in the body as a whole that body is then in position to bring forth the Word of God in the creative cycles as needful in the seasons of the Lord. Self-centeredness evaporates then. I doubt if it has entirely evaporated from all of those who think of themselves as Emissaries. What is rightly born though us moment by moment is what is needful to the well-being of this body, that what is needful for the well-being of the whole body of humanity may be born through the collective body which we share.

What lingering elements are present in the earthly consciousness of the angels who presently compose this forming body? “Thou shalt not bear false witness.” This is the word of the angel to the earthly capacity of consciousness. It is your word to your own earthly state of consciousness: “Thou shalt not bear false witness.” Is your earthly state of consciousness willing to acknowledge where false witness may still be being borne? Only as there is such acknowledgment, so that the false witness is not sustained, will it be possible to bear true witness. Obviously there are many things in human consciousness which need rebuke in this regard.

One area where false witness tends to be borne relates to the attitude which sustains the view that somehow one is being prevented from expressing what is natural to oneself. There is a sense of being restricted from experiencing an adequacy of expression of one's own unique quality. If this is being felt in earthly consciousness, it is because heavenly consciousness is not present to allow the adequate expression to appear. It is something in one's own earthly consciousness that is resisting the expression which would be natural to the angel. Where there is resistance there tends to be discomfort, and where there is discomfort there tends to be an attitude of resentment and blame. There is an ignoring of the fact that if that is one's own experience it is one's own experience and it has nothing to do with anybody else. It is always easy to find those whom one may accuse of imposing something upon oneself, thereby holding others responsible for the fact that one is not experiencing the adequate expression of one's unique self.

There's a wide field upon which one may draw to find those who are responsible for one's own discomfort. We surely see clearly that the discomfort comes solely because there is a resistance to the expression of the Word of God through one's own earthly state of consciousness. There is a resistance on the part of the earthly state of consciousness and that brings with it discomfort. Because most people don't care for discomfort too much it seems expedient to find somebody to blame. But the only thing to blame is the fact of the resistance in oneself, in one's own earthly state of consciousness. It has nothing whatsoever to do with anyone else. It is never true, because the angel is present. Whatever the circumstance is, it is present. The angel is quite capable of expressing the truth of the angelic expression in that circumstance. What is preventing it then? Simply that there is a resistance on the part of the earthly capacity of consciousness to let it happen, and to justify that resistance blame is placed here or there. It is never truenever!

I have asked the question before, “Can you conceive of any situation in which the angel would be incapable of expressing correctly?” I think the Master when He was on earth proved conclusively that there is no such possible situation. Everything in the book was thrown at Him. Did He ever take the attitude, even in the most intensely painful experience, that He was no longer in position to express the Word of God? It is true that at some point His earthly consciousness was not available for any more expression, and so I suppose it could be said at that point that He ceased to express through the earthly state of consciousness. But until that point was reached the expression which appeared through His earthly capacity of consciousness was true to the truth of Himself. It never faltered. He never accused anyone of imposing something on Him which would prevent Him from expressing the Word of God. As an angel nothing can prevent you from expressing the Word of God except the resistance of your own earthly state of consciousness—that and that alone. The frustration which people feel never relates to what someone else is doing. Never!

We have become so expert in justifying ourselves that we have ready-made excuses, files of them. We pull out the drawer and there they all are, but they are all lies, every last one of them, because there is only one thing that can prevent you as the angel from expressing the truth, the Word of God, in whatever circumstance it may be, and that is the resistance of your own earthly capacity of consciousness, the unwillingness of that capacity to let the expression come forth, be born. The earthly state of consciousness has preferred habitually to bring forth complaint, blame, criticism, resentment, dislike, whatever, rather than to bring forth what you as an angel are quite capable of expressing angelically.

So we may share this evening in letting the Word of God be born through our earthly capacities of consciousness in a positive expression which says in effect to the earthly state of consciousness, “Thou shalt bear true witness.” The tendencies of which I have been speaking are the evidence of the bearing of false witness. It is natural for the angel to keep the Ten Commandments. This evening we consider specifically this one, and it is not so unrelated to our momentary experience, is it? “Thou shalt not bear false witness” does not only apply to the times when one may be on the witness stand. It relates to every moment of living, and we see it in terms of Thou shalt bear true witness, because we as angels require this of the earthly state of consciousness, which is our means of bringing forth the Word of God on earth.

Obviously then, when there is alertness the issue of the moment can be handled easily and correctly. Do any of you in your earthly state of consciousness still insist that there is someone, somewhere—we'll bring it down to one now—someone, somewhere, who can restrict you from letting the Word of God be born into expression on earth? Can anyone prevent that happening for you? If so, you are not yet being honest and you have no foundation for bearing true witness. How delightful it is, angelically speaking, to let every last excuse be swept out of the earthly capacity of consciousness so that it may be totally available for the heavenly state of consciousness, totally available for the bringing forth of the Word of God, the creative Word—the only way by which we may fulfil on earth what we are here to do. And that is satisfaction indeed. As angels we are the evidence of the presence of the Archangel in His Body on earth. As angels we are born into expression through the earthly capacity of consciousness, so that the evidence of the presence of the One Who Dwells, in this case the Archangel, is made known on earth—not at all in the sort of words which I am using now but in the fact that the Word of God is being spoken through the consciousness of this body. That is the creative Word. All things were made by Him. All things are made by Him. If there is to be a remaking, then that Word needs to be spoken. It is spoken in living.

We share the resounding of that True Tone on earth. As there is a body the resounding can occur to echo through the earthly consciousness of mankind. Creative power is present. The Fire that burns is present, bearing witness of the One Who Dwells. The Light that glows is present, bearing witness of the Fire that burns. The Cloud of Glory is present, bearing witness of the Light that glows. The heavenly state of consciousness is present, bearing witness of Shekinah. And the earthly state of consciousness is present to bear witness of the heavenly state of consciousness, that Shekinah may be born, that the words essential to that birth may be spoken and may be born into expression in the world—not only the words but the actions, thoughts, words and deeds giving evidence of the presence of the Archangel in creative expression on earth. This expression requires all the angels that are the evidence of His presence, each one of us, and many others who begin to become increasingly apparent.

How richly blessed we are this evening to share this creative experience by which the Word of God is born on earth. I am thankful, most thankful, for each of you whose earthly consciousness has become sufficiently open and willing to let you as the angel be revealed in expression on earth, handling every circumstance that arises, regardless of what it is, regardless of who else may be involved, rightly, in the expression of the Word of God. That is all that's needed. There could be no cause for complaint, could there? It is something that can always be done. As it is consistently so, the creative power of God is certainly in action within the earthly consciousness of mankind, and the evidence of that action becomes apparent in a multitude of different ways. We may rejoice that it is so and continue to let it be so to the glory of God.

The Power Of Creation

The  Power  of  Creation

Martin Exeter   April 17, 1983

Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

We move forward together in the creative cycle, speaking the Word out of the whirlwind—cyclic, rhythmic, creative. As emotions no longer determine behavior the mind is released so that the spirit may reveal intelligence. Certainly the sweet influences of Pleiades can be bound for right use; the bands of Orion can be loosed for intelligent thinking in consequence. Mazzaroth can be brought forth in his seasons. No longer is experience determined by external events and influences. What is needful in living is brought forth out of heaven by the action of spirit. The action of spirit in heaven is the whirlwind—creative action, not destructive. Emotions under control, mind activated by spirit brings forth what is right and fitting in the moment. Arcturus and his sons can be guided. Radiant expression makes this possible. The creative cycle can be administered. There is an awareness of the direction of movement. No longer is there any resistance to that movement but, rather, whatever is necessary to allow that movement to be effective in our own individual creative fields is provided.

The ordinances of heaven are known and the dominion of them is set in the earth by reason of our own individual spiritual expression. Spiritual expression is power. It has already been stated many times: Never underestimate the power of spiritual expression. It is the power of fusion, bringing and holding all things together in the true design in the creative process. This is the power of the Holy Ghost: fusion—oneness, wholeness, the power that operates the universe. The unholy ghost brings forth the power of fission, the power of disintegration—nuclear weapons, for one thing. This is looked upon as a great power capable of obliterating everything on the face of the earth. Is the power of fusion any less, do you think? Is the power which operates the universe, holding all things together in oneness, less than the power released by the unholy ghost, the power inherent in what is called fission? Of course not. Such power is scarcely discernible in the universe, in the cosmos of harmony and order brought forth by the power of fusion.

Never underestimate the power of spiritual expression therefore. Here is the power back of the whole universe brought to focus through the angels of God incarnate and in expression in human form on earth. Obviously it is a power not to be played with by impure hearts and self-active minds; it isn't available to impure hearts and self-active minds. Lacking that power, of course, they have been used to develop the other power: that of fission, that of disintegration. The angels of the Lord on earth are aware of the power of spiritual expression, the power of the Holy Ghost. They are aware also of such power as has been stolen by the unholy ghost, the power of disintegration. The latter is clearly demonstrated on earth in these days; it has come right out into the open where it can be seen. It is presumably a very noisy power, very violent, generating tremendous heat and light at a certain destructive level. Light in this sense can be used destructively, as can heat also, combined with noise. The unholy ghost is very noisy; the world is full of racket, in more ways than one.

The power of the Holy Ghost is silent. Maybe you have listened for the music of the spheres but I doubt if you heard very much. There is a quietness here, a gentleness, certainly a quality of understanding; but these elements do not indicate a lack of power. If, as human beings do, they correlate power with noise, violence, excessive heat and blinding light, then something seems to be lacking. But there is light, there is heat, in quietness and in gentleness. Here is power undreamt of by self-active human minds and impure human hearts. This presumably is why they have developed the substitute, the destructive power, the power of disintegration. Do you imagine that disintegration can prevail in face of the power of the Holy Ghost, the power of spiritual expression?

Let us begin to sense more keenly in mind and heart the intensity and the quality of this creative power; for this power is in the hands of the angels of the Lord incarnate and in expression on earth. It is used only to the extent of purity of heart and clarity of mind, because only to that extent is spiritual expression possible. This power is inherent in spiritual expression. This power achieves the creative purposes of spirit. It cannot be prevented or turned aside. But it only emerges into experience as there are pure hearts and clear minds to let it happen.

In this day there has been particular movement in a directly experienced creative cycle. It was not shut off after the service given by me this morning or after what was provided a little later by you. The continuing movement has been present and available to the experience of all concerned, to the extent of purity of heart and clarity of mind, refocalized in a specific way by those who participated in the chanting and in the words that were spoken—latterly you all shared in that chanting—that we might be together in a continuing way in this particular focus of the creative cycle which is our responsibility, the responsibility of each one. We have the opportunity of sharing it in a very specific way when we are together as we are now, but it does not evaporate when this is not the situation, although it may evaporate in the experience of those who should be participating in the continued movement of that creative cycle.

As a little aside, I have noticed that after the blessing is given at a meal there are those who very quickly revert to their conversation and their ribaldry. Perhaps very often the first sounds that put in an appearance are those of children. Something should be done about that to cause an awareness as soon as possible in the childish consciousness of moments of sacredness and reverence. But some of adult years are not far behind the children, as a rule. I take note of these things; perhaps some of you do too.

Who has the experience of being the angel of the Lord incarnate and in expression on earth? Whose minds and hearts are yielded and open and welcoming to that experience? And so we share it, if we will, now in this moment because we pay attention. But then minds wander and hearts become involved with a variety of emotions. The focus is lost; participation in the creative cycle ceases; the power is dissipated. How many are there on the face of the earth with the opportunity consciously to share this creative work which we have begun to understand? Shall the destructive power of fission prevail in human experience, or shall it be the creative power of fusion, the creative power that is made manifest in oneness, in an easy, natural, complementary movement of all those who are aware of these things? When that is so, the reality of spiritual expression puts in an appearance and the power of fusion is present.

What might be described as miracles, I suppose, occur, because this power is absolutely irresistible. It is, of course, irresistible in two ways. Those who fight against it discover what it means to fail; those who welcome it discover that it is irresistible and irresistibly brings them back to where they belong. Those who know the reality of spiritual expression constantly and consistently extend the welcome into the Holy Place, the Holy Place from which spiritual expression flows. In the giving of attunements it has usually been thought of in the sense of projecting something, doing something to the physical form. That may have been part of the situation heretofore, but the real attunement is to be brought home, isn't it?—for the minds and hearts, and therefore the bodies of people, to be brought again into the garden of God, into the Holy Place. To welcome someone into the holy place, naturally one must have a Holy Place to welcome them into.

It is this that is health—perhaps not healing, but health. There is a distinction here. People want to be healed so that they can continue in whatever state they were in before. Of course they may claim that if they are healed they will serve God better. That's not the point. The point is for mind and heart to be made new. The body certainly cannot be made new if mind and heart are not. The body seems to be quite willing to follow along with the mind and the heart, whether in the broad way to destruction or in the narrow way to life. The problem is not really very much with the body but in the minds and the hearts of those bodies. It will continue to exist as long as the emotions dictate behavior, for when the emotions dictate behavior the mind rationalizes that behavior. It was Adam, wasn't it, who went trotting after Eve when she ate the forbidden fruit. He's been trotting after Eve ever since. As long as emotions control, the mind is stupid; it's under the influence of dope. It's addicted to what has been called the forbidden fruit, namely judgment--the imagined ability that the mind has, to determine what is right and what is wrong, what is good and what is bad. If it thinks it has that ability it's stupid! And it's stupid because it exercises that ability, or what it thinks of as an ability.

The spirit moves in heaven, and the Word is spoken out of the whirlwind. I suppose that whirlwind could be described as an anticyclone; it's a high-pressure area. The movement of the spirit in the substance of heaven is described as the whirlwind, invisible as yet; but with an anticyclone it is a gentle zephyr. Here is the angel in heaven administering the creative cycle. The reverse of that would be a cyclone: low pressure, the devil in hell administering destruction, disintegration, fission. That would be it insofar as human beings are concerned; but because the angels are in heaven and because there are those yielded minds and hearts sufficiently clear and pure, the creative cycle can be administered within the range of human experience, designed to make all things new. But mind and heart must be made new first, for it is through mind and heart that the creative cycle may be administered on earth—but only by the angel of the Lord; it can't be self-administered by mind and heart.

So we participate in this process now in this moment as there is an actual movement with the action of the spirit, with the Word in heaven. There could not be participation in that without being in heaven. One may know for oneself the extent to which there is intelligent participation because there is a sea of glass clear as crystal. The emotions are stable and still. The mind is no longer interested in being governed by the emotions but in being governed, now, by the spirit of God, by the action of spirit in heaven. And the Word comes out of the whirlwind to make very sure that the mind has no false illusions and the emotions are no longer attempting to rule the roost. Then there may be stillness, quietness: a sea of glass clear as crystal—the purified heart, the sanctified and clarified mind waiting upon the Lord, waiting for the activation out of heaven to be experienced and administered on earth. What is done in any situation, any circumstance that arises, makes possible the setting of the dominion of the ordinances of heaven in the earth. This is not possible when emotions run rife or when the mind justifies the emotions and rationalizes its own action.

Be still, O mind; be silent, O heart.

Behold, the Spirit of Truth comes forth;

spiritual expression is made possible; the power of creation is present.

How gently, how easily, all that is present in human consciousness can be handled.

How gently, how easily, things can be made new.

It is usually the human view that to cause anything to happen in the world as it is known some sort of forceful imposition must be brought to bear. This is war, of course, at whatever level that war may put in an appearance. This is not the way of the spirit. The spirit does bring something to bear in radiation into human consciousness, something that, as I have said, is irresistible. This high pressure is easily yielded to by the minds and the hearts that are willing. In those who are not willing, resistance is engendered; but what is the point of resisting the irresistible power?

So we know what it is that happens. We, living out of heaven, are responsible for administering the creative cycle. We may observe what is happening, being unmoved by it, and we may provide whatever is fitting and possible to assist others in their yielding, in the clarifying and sanctification of human minds and in the purification of human hearts. We know what that is to the extent that it has been experienced by our own personal minds and hearts. If it hasn't been we don't know what it is, and we can be of no assistance or value to anybody else. Some people sit around hoping for something to happen. It never does, because the heart must be open and the mind yielded to the spirit, the spirit which has been so vividly portrayed and offered, extended, month after month and year after year, within the range of our experience. We can deny it, we can betray it, we can be dishonest, but why? I am sure there is a longing in every open heart for honesty and clarity, the joy of administering the creative cycles on earth. What a wonder this is, and what miracles occur!

All who will come are welcomed into the Holy Place. Nothing that defiles or works abomination or makes a lie can come in, so all that rubbish can be left outside. And within the Holy Place is wholeness: Be thou made whole. This welcome into the Holy Place is far beyond what has heretofore been called attunement, isn't it? Attunement as it has been known has been no more than a patching-up process, so that people can stick around a little longer and maybe yield their hearts and minds. But it is the yielding of the heart and mind that is the point, the coming into the Holy Place, where wholeness is. Coming into the Holy Place, that is the experience: wholeness—no need to shop around anymore to try to get fixed up. In the Holy Place whatever needs to be done to administer the creative cycle is done. This will relate also to one's own physical form. Creative expression of life, spiritual expression, is what is known.

Glory to God in the highest, that in living, momentary living, the truth may be known because it is in expression. That expression is spiritual expression. It is the focus for the power which operates the universe to find fitting and right and creative release in human experience. We are responsible for this. What a glorious responsibility! We share it now and in all the hours and days and months and years to come. Here is peace, here is beauty, here is love.

Core Pattern

Core  Pattern — Positive  Action

Martin Cecil   July 3, 1977

When the Master was on earth He said something to the effect that He had not come into the world to be ministered unto but to minister. Obviously there were those at that time who extended assistance and hospitality to Him, so He was not particularly referring to ministry of that nature but rather to what He came to deliver into the world.

If we agree with Him, if we follow Him, then obviously our attitude is the same. We did not come into the world to be ministered unto but to minister. In order to reach a point where a person is in position to minister there must be a period of being ministered unto. There is this necessity of awakening to the consciousness of the fact that one is here on earth not to be ministered unto but to minister. Back along the way I was concerned to find someone who could minister unto me. I found that individual in the person of Uranda. However there came a point when he was no longer present with me and others on earth, so in that sense I had lost the one whom I had previously found to minister unto me. Fortunately, during the latter period of Uranda's presence on earth I had learned something about ministering; I had gained some experience in this regard. Clearly then, when Uranda was no longer here, as far as I was concerned there was no one here to minister unto me, so I was forced to take the attitude that I did not come into the world to be ministered unto but to minister. The same thing should be true for each one, without the necessity of any such drastic experience. It should be true for all of you for instance.

As I say, there is properly a period of time when one is being ministered unto for the purpose of learning what it means to minister. The idea of course is not to become a perennial student but to graduate, to grow up and to minister. When there is such an awakening there is a recognition of relatedness to others who are ministering likewise, but we no longer require anyone to minister to us. I suppose I could ask two questions, indicating alternatives insofar as you are concerned: Must I minister to you in the name of the Lord? Or will you stand with me and minister to the world in the name of the Lord? I have indeed over the years ministered in various ways to many people. I am thankful that there are those who do stand with me to minister to the world in the name of the Lord. Each one needs to consider these questions with respect to his or her own field of living.

There has been a platitude repeated in the world many times, something to the effect that when the need arises the teacher will appear, as though teachers would be appearing indefinitely over the period of our life cycle. You know that this properly is not true. Sooner or later, to keep one's integrity, there must be the acceptance of the responsibility of ministering without being ministered unto. If I have ministered to many over the years the purpose was not particularly to benefit those concerned but to find the ones who would stand with me. If anyone gives evidence of the fact that they are not so willing they have little further interest for me because, after all, there is only one reason why I am here and why any true person is here, and that is to serve the Lord on earth in providing a facility for the positive action phase of the One Law at the level where human beings are in the world. Nothing else has any meaning. Only when this is done is there the power present by which the world may be restored.

Over the past twenty thousand years there has been a creative process at work to allow the restoration of man to occur. If one were to judge by appearances it would not seem that very much was being accomplished, and yet the One Law is at work. Twenty thousand years is quite a long time from the human standpoint but just a moment from the divine standpoint. When man violated his integrity and set in motion this tragedy which has been in effect for the last twenty thousand years—a little comedy thrown in here and there—it could only be a temporary state of affairs; in other words by reason of the working of the Law a conclusion would come to this temporary state of affairs somewhere along the way. There were two possibilities insofar as the conclusion was concerned: the first and foremost, the one of deepest concern, was that man might be restored; the second, which would inevitably occur if man was not restored, would be the elimination of man. The elimination of man involves the elimination of much more than man. So there are these two possibilities which have always been present.

In the outworking of events over this lengthy period of history the main concern has always been that man might be restored. This is as much so today as it was at any other time. However the only way by which man can be restored is as the positive action phase of the One Law has opportunity of expression at the level where man is—or where human beings now are, because human beings in the collective sense are no longer man. This is why there is need for restoration. But the way this task is accomplished is based in the positive action phase of the One Law. Actually either the restoration or the elimination of man is consequent upon the same thing: the positive action phase of the One Law. The elimination of man occurs when there is no means for the positive action phase of the One Law to operate at the level where human beings are. To whatever degree we have awakened to this awareness and have awakened to our responsibility in relationship to it, there may be the facility for the positive action phase of the One Law to operate at the level where human beings are. This requires that we be at the level where human beings are.

There are those who have been concerned apparently with rising to some other level, ascending up into some mystical heaven somewhere, but what earthly value would that be? I don't think it would be of much heavenly value either. The point is that we need to be here where we are and we are not interested properly in trying to escape, to get away from the circumstances as we find them. This is, after all, part of the level where human beings are, so our concern is to let the positive action phase of the One Law operate where we are. Insofar as we are concerned it will only operate where we are because of us. It may operate somewhere else where we aren't, because of somebody else, but observing what is going on in the world we have not, I am sure, been very much encouraged on this point. We have an awareness of what it is that is required and because we have this awareness we consequently have the responsibility of letting it happen. Obviously those who do not have the awareness are not going to do anything about it. Always, increased vision carries with it increased responsibility. Woe unto those who attempt to possess the increased vision for themselves without assuming the increased responsibility that goes with it.

If the positive action phase of the One Law is to work effectively there must be a core of human beings who have accepted the responsibility for letting it happen. We do not have to make the One Law work; it never stopped working, fortunately. But we may participate in this working at the level where human beings are to the extent that we share the responsibility in our own expression of living for the positive action phase of the One Law. Another way of putting that is summarized in the words "spiritual expression."

I presented two alternatives in the form of two questions: Must I minister to you in the name of the Lord? in which case I would be left alone insofar as the positive action phase of the One Law is concerned. Or will you stand with me in ministering to the world in the name of the Lord? I assume, with respect to everyone who participates in any way in this ministry, that here is a person, male or female, who is offering him- or herself to participate in ministering to the world. As I say, initially the individual is usually looking for help personally; he wants to be ministered unto; but no one can rightly assume the attitude which requires being ministered unto indefinitely. There must come a point somewhere along the line where there is sufficient wakefulness and integrity to accept the responsibility of ministry—one's own personal ministry; no guru is required. Yet this does not mean, as you well know, that everybody scatters in all directions, setting up their own little areas of ministry here or there, because what we are talking about certainly is not children's games. This is the positive action of the One Law here on earth, the same Law which is present and operative throughout the whole universe. It is not really a little thing.

The positive action of the One Law is the expression of the creative spirit of God and it produces a reaction in what may be called the creation. The negative reaction phase is automatic—it can't help itself; there must be negative reaction. All that is necessary is to allow the positive action phase of the One Law to work at the level where human beings are, because the reaction aspect is sure. There will be transformation. The state of incompleteness, the state of evil, will change; it will be transformed. If there is the clear positive action of the One Law it will be transformed perfectly. Now it is quite true that the world is a jumbled place at the moment because human beings have messed things up very thoroughly, but it does not really matter how messed up things are, when the positive action of the One Law comes to bear, things will immediately begin to sort themselves out. They can't help sorting themselves out. Human beings may object, they may rebel against what is happening, they may be very disturbed because things are not going the way they think they ought to go, but no matter what they do they are quite incapable of preventing the transformation which is occurring. Part of that transformation relates to the restoration of man; in other words once there is a core pattern on earth capable of permitting the positive action of the One Law at the level where human beings are, the results are absolutely inevitable. There will be the restoration of man. Lacking that positive action of the One Law at the level where human beings are, the results will be equally inevitable: the elimination of man; because the One Law is working anyway whether human beings like it or not, and it is not possible long to maintain something which is at variance with the operation of the Law. The distorted factors get swept out of the way. Human beings over the millennia have ample experience in this regard individually and collectively; much has been swept out of the way.

Much is in the process of being swept out of the way right now. Even from the standpoint of what might be considered to be the natural processes of decay, artistic monuments of all kinds in the world are disintegrating. Immense sums of money are being spent in an endeavor to prop them up, an endeavor which must eventually fail in any case. Why bother? "Oh these works of human culture, the achievements of human beings! How could one dare to suggest that they profitably might pass away?" This is a terrible thing to say, isn't it, in a world where human beings everywhere seemingly are trying to preserve their precious cultures. Who pays any attention to the true culture, to the true state of man on earth, and what would be engendered by reason of that true state? It seems that few are able to envision anything more than the glorious things which this unfortunate creature on earth has produced.

To what extent are those of you here present, and many more who are associated with this ministry, to what extent are you and they willing to relinquish any desire to be ministered unto? I suspect all too many would feel that they would perish if they were not being ministered unto: "What would happen if I didn't get my attunements? What would happen if those who carry particular responsibility didn't include me in the scope of their responsibility?" Such questions might arise in the minds of some. But how about agreeing with the Lord whom we serve, in acknowledging that we did not come into the world to be ministered unto by anyone but to minister, to be the positive expression of the One Law on earth. One can remain in a state of limbo indefinitely by insisting that there are occasions when it is most important that someone should minister unto you. I have been most fortunate in this regard because I had nowhere to turn. Who was going to minister unto me? Oh lots of people have provided many things for me in the external sense, but from the standpoint of my ministry on earth, the responsibility which I carry in the world, who was going to minister to me in that regard? There was nobody on hand.

"Well," you may say, "there is the Lord"; but that is true of you just as much as it is true of me. Yes, we all have parts to play. I have my particular responsibility but you have yours, and to carry that responsibility requires exactly the same thing of us both: to acknowledge that it is unnecessary to be ministered unto, that we are totally capable of ministering. As always there is a little questioning possible here because, as I have said before, initially speaking a person needs to be ministered unto to come to the point where he may minister. But where is the point where he may minister and no longer require any ministering unto? Where is that point for you? Did it possibly occur last year? Or is it going to occur next year? Or maybe even tomorrow? When? When is the point reached? One can put it off easily: "Oh I need some more training. I need some more information. I need some more understanding. I need some more ability. I need to develop this and that to a greater extent. And then, then I will minister." But when is then? Is there an examination that you are going to pass? "You have graduated now; you are responsible for ministering"—is someone going to tell you that? Obviously one could continue as long as life remained in the student position, taking the attitude, "One day I am going to graduate."

The fact of the matter is that one may accept the responsibility now. I presume that over the last, what is it? twenty-three years, since I was put into the position of having to acknowledge that I was here to minister rather than to be ministered unto, I have learned something. My state of experience now is different to my state of experience twenty-three years ago. Obviously. I could very easily back there have said, "Well I need more of somebody ministering unto me." But there wasn't anyone to do it. Just because there is someone to do it insofar as you are concerned, does that mean that you can put it off, put off the acceptance of that responsibility? Clearly, if everyone puts it off we have no core pattern by means of which the positive action of the One Law could be brought into effect at the level where human beings are. And it requires more than one person or just a few people. It was suggested somewhere that it might require 144,000 to handle the world, 144,000 individuals who have accepted the responsibility to minister and have relinquished any idea that they need to be ministered unto. There may have been occasions in the past, in my own experience, when I felt that I needed to be ministered unto, but as I say, most fortunately there was nobody on hand to do it and consequently the responsibility had to be taken. There was no alternative insofar as I was concerned, unless I violated my own integrity. This was the only way I could evade the necessity. I didn't think it was worth that. How about you? There is always a seeming excuse because there are other people around ministering. "If I need to be ministered unto I can go to so-and-so." Yes you can, and you will continue to need to go to so-and-so until you have accepted the responsibility of your own ministry. It is yours and nobody else's.

As I say, this acceptance of responsibility does not carry you off into left field somewhere. It does not scatter everybody to the four corners of the earth. We find ourselves holding together because we are all part of the positive action of the One Law, and it requires all of us and we all have different parts to play. From the standpoint of my particular position one would presume that it is not really any longer ministering to individuals as such. There are still quite a few people who come along wanting to be ministered unto. There are those who properly have a responsibility to take care of what is necessary in this regard but I doubt if it should continue to be me forever, because how could we ever get down to business in the positive action phase of the One Law as it relates to the larger picture of the world? We may say, "Well we serve the world by ministering to the individual." That is true up to a point but there are many things to be done of which there is virtually no consciousness as yet on the part of most, and these things cannot be done as long as there is an insistence that those who should be doing these things are required to minister to this individual and that individual in an endless round which has been going on for as long as this ministry at least has been on earth, but long before that no doubt. There are always people, seemingly, who think they need to be ministered unto. Okay, that may be all right up to a point, but there comes a time when one acknowledges the fact that one came into the world to minister and not to be ministered unto.

When this is the accepted responsibility of a sufficiently sizable core group of human beings then there begins to be power, because that experience is the experience of the Holy Ghost coming upon those concerned. They have accepted the responsibility. They are not anticipating that their own field of service is going to be handled by somebody else. It is only then that we begin to have the experience of what it means to become a man or a woman. Otherwise we continue to be, in some measure at least, puling children—that's right, isn't it?—expecting to be taken care of. We did not come to be ministered unto but to minister. There are those whose ministry may particularly be concerned with matters pertaining to education, education of people who are learning to minister. There are those whose special concern will be in the field of healing. Others will handle the affairs which are of immediate concern in our environment. There are many areas which require people to handle them, people who are capable of ministering and are not demanding anymore to be ministered unto. But above and beyond all this, these areas of responsibility, there is a field of what might be called vibrational responsibility which may be handled by those who are allowed to do so because no demand is being placed upon them by this person or that person requiring to be ministered unto. You can see that there are many levels of operation insofar as the positive action of the One Law is concerned and there is the need for those who can handle these various levels of operation, but it will not be handled by those who are demanding to be ministered unto, only by those who are capable of ministering. The only way one can learn to minister is to minister. One can never learn to minister merely by being ministered unto.

The immediate concern is that there should be this core composed of human beings who are ministering, who are providing the facility for the positive action of the One Law at the level where human beings are. That is the experience of the Holy Ghost coming upon you and it is stated: "Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you." There is the power, the creative power of the positive action of the One Law, and it is this that transforms the world. We begin to allow that positive action of the One Law which is already in operation to be brought to focus and to find release in radiation, in action, in living, because we have assumed the responsibility for letting it be so. Then we might say the job is done. Oh there is a lot to work out, but it will all work out; it can't help but work out. The transformation occurs because the reason for its occurrence is present, present and in operation. Having some vision and awareness of these things, the self-centered state dissolves because we let it dissolve. And here we are together, standing together, to minister to the world in the name of the Lord. How else shall the world be transformed? There isn't any other way. Do we really recognize how much trust has been placed in us? Keeping our integrity we cannot help but be true to the trust.

I am most thankful for the opportunity of speaking of these things to you who are here present this evening, and by reason of what you have made possible in this regard many, many others are included. The Lord is good and greatly to be praised.

James Wellemeyer — Martin, I don’t feel we can really walk out of here this evening without acknowledging the wonder of what has been shared, to sense the power that has moved through your word and through us and to recognize that we are here to get the job done, that we are here to stand with you, not just in theory as undoubtedly it has been many times but to stand with you in fact. How I delight in what has been shared this evening and with you. Praise God that it is so. Thank you, Martin.

Martin Cecil — Your word of response, Jim, is an evidence of the working of the Law: positive action, negative reaction. We need to understand the working of the Law so that we may participate in its working in a fitting and proper manner. Jim brought to focus something of the response which properly is engendered by reason of the positive radiation. We need to understand how these things work so that we may intelligently cooperate with that working. It is only by reason of such direct participation that the power is allowed to be generated and released in radiation. Where there is positive radiation there must be negative response in the fulfilment of the Law, and only as we play our respective parts in cooperation with the working of the Law are we of any particular value in generating what is required insofar as intensification of positive radiation is concerned. We have shared an opportunity of radiation this evening. I am thankful that the Law has been allowed to work in your experience, in our experience, as much as it has.
