Shared Radiation

Shared  Radiation

Radiation. All that needs to be accomplished comes by reason of true radiation. We are all aware of how it was put quite a long time ago: radiation, response, attraction, union, unified radiation. The starting point is radiation. Something must be brought to focus, so that the light can shine in a specific sense. For me that was brought to focus by Uranda. There was the radiation. True radiation is very compelling. It engenders response in those who are aware of the radiation. If a person is not aware of the radiation, then there will not be response to it. Thankfully I was aware of the radiation, and so there was response. Others shared in this at the time. Response, then attraction.

In the period of attraction there is the tendency to seek to reflect the radiation, the idea being to become like the one who is the point of radiation: “Let’s reflect that; let me reflect that.” And possibly in that case for a while there may be imitation, but the process doesn’t stop with attraction. Where there is response to true radiation there is irresistible attraction. What is the attraction for? So that one may imitate the radiation? That would be phony, wouldn’t it? It wouldn’t be the real thing. No, the attraction is leading toward what was called union, which in other terms could be described as shared radiation. Shared radiation would be the beginning of genuineness. And awareness comes of what is natural and right insofar as one’s own radiation is concerned in alignment with the radiation which, up to that point, had been the source of attraction.

Certainly one isn’t going to be attracted forever. I think perhaps human beings have looked upon this as indicating there was a long journey, a journey which is consummated because of attraction; you are forever being attracted, you never reach what it is you are being attracted toward. But this is a rather foolish idea. Certainly human beings have felt that there was a long journey. Pilgrim’s progress! But all the attraction does is to bring one into position to share the radiation. That needn’t be a lengthy process at all. You all know of this particular cycle. Necessarily there had to be radiation first; without that there would be nothing to respond to. Because there was radiation there has been response.

As I have indicated, from my own standpoint I discovered rather dramatically the necessity for shared radiation. It couldn’t be evaded. I couldn’t remain in the mode of attraction. Now the same thing is true for anyone if this creative cycle is to come to its proper fulfilment. Each one may respond and experience the attraction; and included in that, as I have indicated, is the usual human endeavor to imitate what it is supposed is the radiation through somebody else. It is seen as radiation through somebody else; and the only way one could associate with that, according to the usual human view, is to imitate it. So there is likely to be a period of imitation. This is a period when one is seeking to reflect somebody else’s radiation.

In the comment period this morning we were noting this as symbolized by the moon. The moon reflects sunlight but in no sense is it the sun. It is a pale reflection, isn’t it? “The silvery moon,” very romantic, but without much substance really. Certainly no warmth seems to be reflected from the moon, just a rather pale light. I think this has been characteristic of many who have participated in the Emissary ministry: just a pale, rather uninteresting light, without all that much warmth. So it isn’t a matter of imitation, reflection. It is a matter of coming to the point of union, and the only way that can happen is to accept the responsibility of sharing the radiation. Then the nature and quality of the radiation becomes known because it isn’t something that is merely being reflected from somebody else. It becomes known because it is one’s own expression. That is union, and when there is union there may consequently be unified radiation.

We have examined this particular cycle on many occasions in the past, but perhaps we see it with clearer vision now, so that we might be keenly aware of any remaining hang-ups we have with respect to the fulfilment of this creative process. It can’t be fulfilled as long as one is a pale reflection. I don’t think anyone really wishes to be a pale reflection of something, but rather be the thing itself. The thing itself is the point of focus which allows for the radiation to be a fact. The way this comes about is that the radiation begins to be more particularly shared.

In my own experience, having assumed the responsibility for providing radiation, it was very necessary for me never to deny it. Human beings find it rather easy apparently to deny it. The story of Peter was a portrayal of this. If one is sharing the radiation one would not be inclined to deny it, because the radiation brings with it an awareness of authority. As I have provided that radiation I had some awareness of my own authority in consequence. Many, virtually everyone at one point or another, have questioned the radiation and have attempted in one way or another to cause me to deny it. I have been educated by various ones as to how I should handle my responsibilities! Very often this was brought to point with respect to a Unit, either here or on Sunrise Ranch. When was something going to be done about these things that were going on in the Unit? And of course the individual who posed this question had an idea as to what should be done and was seeking to persuade me to accept that idea, rather than be true to the radiation.

We all find ourselves in positions of this nature. I have rather steadfastly, I trust, refused to deny the radiation. Come what may, I was going to be true to that, and if that meant not being true to someone’s idea or opinion, so be it. So certain ones became somewhat disgusted and were consequently repelled. There are two aspects to this radiation. One is irresistible attraction and the other is irresistible repulsion. Which it is, is of little moment insofar as I am concerned, but it is of considerable moment for those who either accept the attraction or insist upon the repulsion. However, that’s their business. I am more interested in the business of those who accept the attraction, so that there may be provided what is most helpful to them to assist in sharing the radiation.

Only by shared radiation can anyone come to know whether the radiation is valid or not. Those who have questioned the validity of it never could do so from experience. All they did was from a stance of opinion, because the only way to have the experience is to share the radiation. Then you know what it is; otherwise you don’t. Otherwise you have a concept about it and you may reflect some of what you conceive the radiation to be, but it doesn’t cause anything very much to happen on that basis. So people get tired of doing that and drift away. But when there is a sharing of the radiation, to whatever extent, one becomes aware of the nature of that radiation; and one becomes aware, to the extent of one’s sharing, of the validity of it. “Yes, it’s true,” and one knows that for oneself.

Of course there are things that occur from time to time—there may be buttons pressed—which, if one ceases to share the radiation, may be disastrous in varying degrees because immediately when one strops sharing the radiation the experience of it vanishes. There may be a memory for a while, getting dimmer and dimmer. One only knows when it is actually happening; then it isn’t merely a theory. If one stops sharing the radiation, what remains is merely a theory, which becomes more untenable and more untenable as time goes on. Our concern presumably has been to share the radiation, and to share it come what may. Do you think no buttons have ever been pressed in me? That would be a ridiculous idea, wouldn’t it? Do I have some special dispensation, no buttons? Buttons are pressed in me just as they are pressed in everybody else. The question is as to whether when they are pressed one is going to deny the radiation or not. That has been my responsibility, and it is your responsibility too. These things must be handled.

When we begin to find that polarity is firmly established in the creative process, then the buttons don’t have so much effect and they are seen rather as opportunity to deal forthrightly with the particular aspect of human nature that is involved. This relates to what was spoken of as the temptations in the wilderness, of course. Get thee hence! Aligned with the radiation there is the awareness of authority. One is not going to be fooled by those things that present themselves attempting to establish their validity, the things of human nature. One doesn’t dither—”Well maybe; I don’t know; I’m not sure; I’m uncertain; perhaps.” Anyone can accept that sort of wimpish attitude, and if they do they are sunk. But, by the same token, if there is alignment with the radiation, there is the authority and these things are naturally and easily dealt with.

It is interesting, in the story as it appears in the Bible, that insofar as the Master was concerned it was a one-shot deal. He did it. That was that. Human nature was dealt with forthrightly. Most people have the idea that “Oh well, this is going to come up again and again and again and I am going to have to deal with it again and again and again.” If that is the viewpoint, there’s a wimp! It isn’t, if you dealt with it. If you don’t deal with it of course it comes up again. Another opportunity is provided, and that’s wonderful that it should be, but the authority is there initially to handle these things of human nature that come up in oneself. That’s what the temptations in the wilderness are portraying.

If one exercises that authority in that field, then you are in position to exercise it in any field. In other words, we are not forever concerned with this matter of dealing with human nature, as though the only reason for our presence on earth is to continually be dealing with these things as they arise. If you have really dealt with them you have dealt with them; and while things may arise, you see them no longer in personal terms. They are factors that relate to your field of ministry, your “life” field, what you are present on earth to do. You will observe human nature all around. The mere fact that you deal with it in yourself doesn’t mean that it is gone from the world. It merely means that you are now in position to do what comes next. What comes next relates to this matter of unified radiation.

When there is the fact of consistent radiation, and an awareness of one’s own authority because of that, this matter of irresistible attraction goes into effect, and there will be circumstances brought to you in which that authority may be exercised. This is happening now insofar as our body is concerned. In the past there has been the idea on the part of many that they wanted to be appointed somewhere, to be sent out into the world to do some great work, as though there wasn’t anything to do at home. We have been discovering, to start with, that this is the great work. Whatever else needs to be done when this is done, it will come. You won’t have to go out looking for it all over the place. It will come to you. It will be drawn. We are aware of this magnetic force; and what rightly should come at any given time, will come. There is no necessity at all to seek it out. It seeks us out, once the authority is there. Circumstances arise, people come in various ways because there is a sensing of authority, very often quite subconsciously, sometimes consciously. We rejoice in either case because this brings into our field of operations what is necessary in order to establish dominion.

There are many things happening. You are aware of some of them at least. I am sure you are becoming convinced, if you were not before, that we don’t need to go out looking for—what, trouble? I am not suggesting that we are attracting trouble either, but what needs to come comes to be dealt with from the standpoint of our authority, that’s all. We don’t look out over there somewhere and say, “Oh there’s something over there; I think that needs my authority.” No. It will come right next to you when you are in position to handle it. The handling of it is based in the fact that you handle rightly what now comes to you. If you handle that rightly, more will come. Of course one has to be open to let more come. There are those who think, “Well I’ve Got enough to handle as it is; I don’t want any more.” We are here to get a job done. I don’t think most of us have had any awareness of the scope of what it is that is required, except in a rather vague, theoretical way. But things now come.

There was on Sunrise Ranch recently this agricultural, stewardship conference where people came because there was a facility available to handle their coming. And the facility was available to the extent that all concerned had been handling what was already present. Then something more could come. There is this program with which Barbara Coffman is associated, relating to the production of moving pictures both in the Soviet Union and the United States; and something is coming together. Why is it coming together? There are those who have been undertaking to do what was apparently necessary to let it come together, and I am most thankful for any who have played a part in this, but it is coming together because there is a focus of spirit. There is a focus of radiation. There is attraction.

So those who are conscious of their authority find themselves in situations, not because they produced them in the ordinary human sense but because they were simply drawn by reason of the fact of the creative process and the focus of spirit that was being provided in the individual sense. We all have responsibility in that regard and we all will find ourselves in positions where we are responsible, spiritually speaking, for what is happening. We are responsible already for much of which we consciously have no awareness as yet. But all this moves on the basis of the creative process, and circumstances are brought to us. We can look around and find many things that are happening in this way in these days. They are very small things in actual fact, but nevertheless they provide settings for the presence of a focus of spiritual authority.

We are here to let dominion be established. It has nothing to do with the human state of affairs but everything to do with spiritual radiation. What is it?—Never underestimate the power of spiritual expression! Did you ever hear about that? I think you underestimated it. Now we find that it works, at present, in seemingly rather insignificant ways. Those concerned have no awareness whatsoever of what is going on. There is something sensed by some and there has been a willingness to align with that sensing. Of course the usual human motivations are present and there is the expectation of getting something out of it somehow. We see these motivations but they mean nothing, because what is happening is happening by reason of the creative radiation that is present. It is present by reason of this body. It finds focus in this individual and that individual in different ways at different times, but it wouldn’t find focus in anyone unless it was present in the body.

So there is much that is being attracted—irresistible attraction—and we had better be on hand to handle it as it comes. I thank God that there have been those present and available who have been able to handle, in recent days at least, much that has put in an appearance. I could describe some other things that are happening but I don’t think it’s necessary. It is not a matter of looking out there anyway. It is a matter of assuming the responsibility for oneself, so that one provides that irresistible attraction to bring what should come for one’s own handling. When something begins to put in an appearance in that way—and, heretofore being rather a little person, you may think of what is coming as big—what attitude are you going to take? “Oh I couldn’t possible handle this; I am weak and wimpish.” Or will you assume the authority which you carry? “Certainly if it comes to me I can handle it; it wouldn’t come if I couldn’t. The way I handle it will be discovered as it goes along.” It may involve, probably will involve, others. Almost invariably it does, but not in the sense of pushing off responsibility onto somebody else. It may be fitting to speak to somebody else with respect to the looming responsibility in order to discover how best it could be handled, but not because one is ducking out, not because one is saying, “Not me, Lord.”

These things are happening, I suppose you could say whether we like it or not. So, as usual, we’d better like it! I rejoice that there is evidence of a focus of radiation, true radiation, on earth. Do you imagine that if you are in a point of radiant focus you are going to see the radiation, you are going to sort of bask in a cloud of glory? “This is the radiation, my radiation going out!” No, you don’t see it. You don’t see your own radiation because you are the radiation. It is what you are. What you do see is the effect of that radiation, the effect, the attractive effect, which brings to you what needs to come to you—initially, as I say, those factors of human nature that need to be dealt with most forthrightly. Then, having dealt with those, there is clear space for what needs to come next. And what comes next relates to what is coming home, what is going to provide a setting for your radiation, for the authority of your radiation. That may require doing this and that, saying this or that, maybe that you just keep quiet; but you are keenly aware of the fact that you are present in relationship to what comes, as the point of authority, the point of consistent continuing radiation.

The radiation gets the job done. And we share that radiation with each other. We don’t claim any of it for ourselves—”Well this is my radiation; don’t you infringe on it.” How do you know? You can’t see the radiation anyway. It isn’t a personal matter. It is a matter of letting love radiate. How we have talked about that! We have said those words frequently, but who knew what they meant? Well let’s keep finding out, and we find out by reason of the evidence of what it is that is brought to us. And there is much on the way. Let us be assured of that, not because we can then become scared of it, but because then we are prepared to welcome it and to handle it as it needs to be handled. We all have sufficient understanding to do this; each individual has.

Never deny the fact of the radiation which you share, and never try to manipulate what the radiation is taking care of. We let it work, and what a delight that is. As I say, there is irresistible attraction for what is coming home, what needs to come into the picture. It may not look all that hot for the moment, but let it come. We will find out why it came. Don’t judge by the appearance. And there is irresistible repulsion; that’s wonderful too. It takes the things that don’t belong clear out of the picture.

Let’s let it work the way it works, so that we may share in this beautiful creative process because we stand as radiant points of light. Blended together there is just one light. We think of the sun as being one thing, and it is. I wonder how much it occurred to anyone that there is a vast variety in the sun. It is one thing because of that vast variety. That is what makes possible the outpouring radiation. Let it be so for us in our field of responsibility where the authority needs to be exercised to bring everything into balanced orbit with respect to this radiant point for which we carry responsibility. And so it shall be, as there are those who are found faithful and true in this. So shall it be.

Jon Le Baron — Martin, it is with rejoicing in my heart that I can stand in this spot, representing many others, I know, to give voice in agreement that the time for resistance, the time for staying in the attractive phase, is long over. It is wonderful just to let the genuineness of myself acknowledge the genuineness in each other one, and to come forth and be with you in complete agreement with the focus you provide.

Lord Exeter — We really need to be—what?—locked into the creative process.

Pulsations of the Creative Process #2

Pulsations  of  the  Creative  Process #2

Martin Exeter  and  Alan Hammond   August 17, 1986  p.m.

Alan Hammond — Most of us gathered in this place have moved with the pulsations of the recreative process over many years. We have been drawn to this place a number of times. Gradually, over the years, we know in our own experience the process of purification which has occurred within us. And now is it not true that there is adequate clarity within our hearts and minds so that we know who we are on earth? I know I can speak for many in this room and beyond when I say: I know the quality and character of my eternal being. I know this on earth through this human consciousness.

Even though I know this, there are occasions when what emerges through this form is not true to my being. As soon as I express it, usually, I know I have not managed to find full expression through these capacities. And I know that this is true of everyone here, and yet I know who I am and the quality of my being. And because I know this of myself, I know this of each of you. And because I no longer beat myself after I have failed to emerge fully into the earth, it is true that I no longer feel the compulsion to beat anyone else either.

I know again that I speak for many when I say that these pulsations of contraction which have brought us together have brought us together this time in an unprecedented quality of union. I suppose if one looked carefully one could see traits, human traits, in others that used to irritate—more than that, incense! But now they don’t, because the consciousness is dominated by the presence of this beautiful unified spirit which is finding expression through all of us.

How shall we extend this quality of power into the earth? I know my own mind has been convinced for many years that television was the answer, public meetings, booklets, reaching out to share the good news. What could be more commendable than that? Fundamentally nothing, except that we now know—I know—that preoccupation with such external forms is not primarily the place of our divine action. We extend this absolute authority and power of the Tone into the world as it finds its pure release in literally every action, every word, every feeling, every thought. Here is ecstasy indeed, that my being should find pure release through these intimate forms of expression.

Purity is power. And so our union with the one who focalizes the Tone is our union in the expression of the Lord’s power and authority. How wonderful to be in this day, to be in this interior place together, knowing an unprecedented union and the joy of expressing this glorious character into the world.

Martin Exeter — We are in the midst of an operational event, universally speaking, which is moving along the way it should. We do not have to look very far in our understanding of what is present universally speaking to realize that it moves in an orderly manner. We are fortunate at the moment to be part of a solar system—we call it—which has evidences of orderliness present. It seems that those who understand these things can calculate the orbits of planets years ahead. Of course they might be surprised one day, but at the moment it all gives evidence of some sort of orderliness. We are in the middle of this, day and night.

Day and night follow each other; the seasons follow each other; the orbit of the Earth moves steadily around the Sun and there is the inclination to depend upon this. There is orderliness, there is design, there is control, and it works the way it works for whatever the purpose might be. Because human beings have divorced themselves from that working they have lost any awareness of purpose, and consequently have had to invent purposes for themselves. A great deal of ingenuity has been exercised in inventing purposes, sweat of the brow, when all the time the creative process was in operation—and it would be quite natural to coordinate with that creative process.

It could be said that we ourselves have been awakening to these things and have become aware that there is a creative process and it does work and it is orderly and it can be trusted. We don’t always trust it—we don’t yet trust ourselves to be aligned with it. We feel quite confident that if we were aligned with it everything would be fine—being aligned with it, the assurance comes with the working of the creative process. But if we happen still to be interested in getting our own way, which is the intent of human nature: to do our own thing, even to excel in doing our own thing—that’s very popular these days, the search for excellence in doing our own thing!—the Lord is forgotten, ignored certainly, and therefore the creative process is set on one side in favor of human purposes—human cross-purposes!

But now we ourselves have a certain sensing of newness appearing. In our own individual experience there is rightly—and this has really always been the case—something new to be known. It is said that at the time when things are wound up the days would be shortened, which presumably means that the changes put in an appearance more quickly, which means also that we need to be pretty nimble on our feet in order to remain associated with what is happening. There are things changing. There are rapid changes occurring, and I think you are all aware of this, and it will be something that is particularly addressed in the Central Council no doubt—because there is the inclination to get oriented toward concepts of proper Emissary behavior as it was. When was that? Who really knows what proper behavior is? It is something that is still, to a very large extent, unknown. But there is an emergence into experience of a new level of what one might call, spiritual know-how.

It has sometimes been indicated that the movement is in an ascending spiral. We find ourselves coming back to a place which seems rather familiar. But, if we are letting the creative process work, our experience of this repetitive place is not at the same level. We find ourselves higher in the spiral—at least hopefully so; I suppose we can perhaps spiral downwards too; some do—so that we come again to something that seems vaguely familiar, or perhaps rather vividly familiar. But let us not judge it as though it was the same as something that was experienced before. It never could be that. We can’t get back to anything, and there is the creative process which is, from our standpoint, a forward movement. So we could never really repeat anything. If it seems that way it is because, instead of ascending in the spiral we are just going round and round. We are not really doing that either, because if you are not ascending you are descending: it is one or the other. One can’t stand still. A lot of people would like to stand still, you know. They don’t like change: “Let’s have things the way we are familiar with. Let's have them that way forever.” Well that doesn’t work!

We welcome what it is that is emerging now; and to discover what is emerging now we must let it emerge. Simple, but it requires a flexibility and an openness, a yieldedness, a constant repentance. The repentance is really letting go of what it was that has been holding us, and there certainly are such things still around—the restoration hasn’t occurred yet, has it?—there are things around, still attached to us. But I think it isn’t quite that way—as though things have a life of their own and hang onto us; really we hang onto them. And when we are willing to let go, they drop off.

So together we participate in this creative process with respect to which I outlined some factors this morning. I would remind you that it was contraction: that is the first thing that we are obviously aware is happening. It is not something we maybe look forward to sometime next week; it is here now, contraction. And in the contraction we reach a point rightly where we have no holdouts; we are not resisting the contraction, which will compact things. In that process there may be those who don’t care for confined spaces. We need to allow the contraction to occur. We find ourselves in close proximity with each other, whereas before there may have been thousands of miles between us.

So contraction takes place, and all are included in this process who are willing to be included—which brings up the matter of repentance, doesn’t it? Repentance: just letting go—letting go of the factors of human nature, that the processes of sanctification may work out because we are willing to let these things go. That is the experience of forgiveness. But this is all happening in a more rapid way when we are brought together on this contraction basis. When you are out there a mile away, a thousand miles away, ten thousand miles away, wherever, things are not sometimes brought so vividly to point as they are when you are jammed together. We are contracted and brought closer together, and we will be this way for the next number of days. I am sure that the matter of repentance will be brought to the fore in consciousness in one way or another, the matter of letting go. It is a matter of participating in the creative process. If there is real participation in the creative process it’s a wonderful blessing, it’s a wonderful experience, and all the seeming discomforts of it fade into the background. This has always been the case. I am sure you have had that experience.

There are many more external experiences which come by reason of the compacting of human beings. There are a lot more human beings around now experiencing this contraction, and there is something very worthwhile because of that. It needs to be recognized, it needs to be understood, that this is wonderful! There is a certain sensing of that because I think we enjoy coming together from all parts of the world. But there is something far more to be accomplished, than this sort of social interchange, by reason of the compaction—the compaction, the contraction, the repentance, the forgiveness.

To move into the next phase, which is very closely related: purification—this is what is happening by reason of the contraction. It is part of the creative process. Let’s enjoy it while we’re here! But let’s get out of the usual human-nature mode, so that we understand what it is that is happening and participate in the process. Let whatever needs to be brought forth be brought forth and relinquished, so that there may be purification, which is the next factor in this creative process: purification. Some find purification a little uncomfortable at times. Well that’s fine, isn’t it? Who’s uncomfortable? Well you can answer that one

Then comes the intensification, which we are capable of accommodating because there is purity there, and there is no double-mindedness anymore. The intensification comes, which is the building up of spiritual pressure—pressure in the boiler. We need to be careful, then, that there are no leaks. The pressure is built up for a purpose. It is because there is a container that is able to accommodate the pressure that something can be accomplished. All these things are happening for a reason, not to satisfy human beings, although if they move with the creative process it is wonderfully satisfying. The dissatisfaction comes when one is bucking it. So there is the intensification which naturally occurs—should naturally occur in this particular configuration that we have. There are various configurations. I am thinking of Central Council, for instance, but there are other configurations, the configuration of this grouping here now.

Let something intensify, that the power may begin to be available for release, which is the next requirement. But the release is always under control. Human beings, experiencing pressure, may blow their tops, as it is said, in other words an explosion. Well there is a valid reason for the building of pressure, but most people don’t know how to handle it. It provides the power by which the operation continues, and we find ourselves associated, then, with the controlled release. And the controlled release we could see in terms of radiation. We are here to let the light shine, after all, but with a great intensity. There has perhaps been a tendency to be content with one candlepower, which flickered in the wind—not very inspiring to anyone. I suppose if it is completely dark all around a candle is useful, but if we each have a candle then we have some candlepower of greater intensity right here in the Chapel.

Finally, because of the radiation, this release, there is the expansion aspect of the creative cycle. And here is the pulsation which moves from contraction to expansion and back to contraction. There is a natural rhythm, and rightly we become aware of that rhythm. There is a rhythm individually speaking in this regard and, as might be expected, the individual rhythms correlate with the larger rhythms and pulsations of the creative process. They are not separate from each other; they are not like human behavior at cross-purposes. Everything is aligned: the solar system is working nicely in the galaxy, thank you; and the galaxy is working very nicely in the system of galaxies, and so on.

The pulsations are all there, they are coordinated, when we ourselves accommodate the creative process. We don’t have to figure it all out.  The creative process is at work. We are moving with it, not altogether consciously as yet but there is a conscious element, certainly, in our experience. It is as there is alignment with this that all things work together in the fulfilment of the creative purpose. And that is just wonderful. I rejoice that we have the opportunity of sharing this now, but always—if we are willing and yielded and allow the creative process to be accommodated in our own minds and hearts, so that we may move easily with the pulsations.

We find ourselves participating in the natural pulsations which move in this way. There are a multitude of ways in which these pulsations occur, a great variety, but the way they occur is very simple, not complicated at all, because it all just fits together. We find the same factors are present in all the compulsions that are going on, all the pulsations that are moving in the creative process. So we rejoice to be together in letting this be known in our own individual and collective experience through whatever configurations are brought together by the movement of that creative process.

Pulsations of the Creative Process #1

Pulsations  of  the  Creative  Process #1

Martin Exeter   August 17, 1986  am

We are together in person. However this is only the case because we have been together in spirit. This association which we know in spirit permits us to participate in the natural movement of the creative process of which we have become increasingly aware. It need no longer be fantasy but is found to be real, moment by moment, as we allow this pulsation to move in our own experience of living. There is a pulsation in the creative process—pulsations within pulsations. We may be very aware now, in this moment, of a pulsation which has brought us into this place—onto Sunrise Ranch and in this present moment into the Dome. One could describe this as contraction.

A contraction occurs for a purpose—not a humanly devised purpose. In a sense we do not know what that purpose is, other than that it is. So in this first experience of the contractive pulsation we have all been compelled to be here this morning. The pulsation of contraction was what factually brought us togetherin spite of mental activity and emotional drags in other directions, we are nevertheless here. This would seem to be indicative of a magnetic force, of considerable power to move all this flesh into this one place this morning. Above and beyond that, for those who are here for the Central Council it has propelled each one over the miles and brought you all home in the external sense. This is not to say that we were not already at home in the spiritual sense wherever we may have happened to be. This pulsation, while it is reflected in form, is a pulsation of spirit; and those who are open in their hearts and minds to the movement of this creative compulsion naturally move. And the power of it is evident in this assembly this morning—so, contractionAnd here we are together to participate in what occurs by reason of the contraction. It certainly didn’t merely bring us into this configuration for nothing. There is a continuing character to the pulsation. One might designate the next aspect to it—seeing that we are presently aware of the contraction which has brought us together, factually—as the matter of purification.

The sons and daughters of God are present here according to the number of you all. We are aware that satan hangs around as well. Human-nature attitudes and influences, mindsets, emotional tendencies, are all present also but, I trust, are given no authority to occupy hearts and minds. In days of yore, according to the story in Job, satan was able to talk back to the Lord, and, as is customary with human nature, the backtalk is characterized by judgment. “Doth Job fear God for nought?” Do we offer ourselves to the creative process even though it may not benefit us personally? There is a magnetic attraction which sometimes, to begin with, is translated as though it meant personal benefit: if we give consideration to spiritual things we will be better off; we’ll have peace of mind; we’ll find a more successful way of living. All this comes into the mental consideration at the behest of satan. So satan comes also among those who begin to move in the creative process because, at least to start with, there is the thought that it’s going to be personally beneficial. It is presumably beneficial, in this view, to be more spiritual. It’s also going to be beneficial because I participate in something which includes other people, so I will have the support of others. And all this rather self-centered viewpoint is indication of the fact that satan comes along with the sons and daughters of God. But there surely comes a point—and I trust this may be the point for most here—when satan has no more say, no more authority, and there is no more attempt to make the creative process serve oneself. The creative process only begins to put in a constructive appearance when there are those present who are willing to accommodate it. And it cannot be accommodated, for very long at least, if the reason for such accommodation is to suit oneselfaccomplish something for oneself in the human sense. I trust that we are sufficiently mature spiritually to have no personal intentions or motivations for participation in the creative process, because if we do we won’t participate in it, that’s all! But to the extent that those things have been dissolved in our experience we have become aware of the reality of the creative process. It was just a belief before that, something in which some can believe and some disbelieve. This is all rather childish.

But where there begins to be spiritual maturity we share in the pulsation, which in this instance brings us together for a purpose: to participate in the continuing pulsation of the creative process—not to look things over and see “How is this going to benefit me?” It isn’t designed to benefit human beings. This is the attitude that has been prevalent in human nature: that everything was designed to benefit human beings. It certainly wasn't, and isn’t. It is because of this attitude that the world is the way it is, everybody trying to reap some benefit for themselves, individually and in various collective configurations. As sons and daughters of God we present ourselves, body and mind and heart, to accommodate the creative process, whatever that may mean. And we can’t rightly say, “Well I didn’t think it was going to be this way. I don’t approve of this, I don't like it.” Who cares? If it’s the creative process, it’s the creative processand there isn’t any other way to go. The variety of ways that human beings follow out in trying to benefit themselves, all of them end in nothing. They even band together to benefit groupwise, and that ends in nothing. There have been nations which have come and gone, empires that have come and gone, civilizations that have come and gone (and there’s one seemingly going right now), simply because all of them are based in this self-centered viewpoint that everything that is around, everything that is available to be grabbed, is for the benefit of human beings. Human beings are for the benefit of the creative process.

So there is the matter of purification to provide space in mind and heart, not cluttered up with all the bright ideas and the emotional stuffing that usually occupies what should be the holy place in individual human beings. Purification. This requires repentance—we’ve heard about that. Repentance is a constant thing. You may remember that this was portrayed rather well by the action of Job long ago when he constantly sanctified his sons. There is a need for participation in this aspect of the creative process which is ongoing. We well recognize there needs to be repentance from judgmentbut repentance from human nature as a whole, and from all the mindsets and emotional states that characterize human nature. Repentance doesn’t mean saying, “Oh, please forgive me for this but I’m going to go on that same way.” There are levels of repentance necessary, repentance nowit’s always now, in this very moment. What a shocking thing to consider in this collective gathering of beautiful people, that there should be the continuing necessity for repentance, so that there may be purification, sanctification, stillnessspace for the spirit of the living God! What happens then?

There comes what might be described by the word intensification. Where there is space to receive the spirit of God, the spirit of God comes. If there has not been the experience of that spirit it is not because it has been withheld but because there has been no space for it. Now there is the deliberate responsibility of providing that space—uncluttered, unjudging space—so that there is no distraction. In this particular setting now there sometimes seems to be distraction because there are others around. There are so many distractions. What is actually happening now, in this moment, is that you and I are together alone. If there are others present insofar as you are concerned there are distractions. Of course it’s not just other people; it’s vagrant thoughts and different feelings which put in an appearance now and again, all distractions. There tends to be distraction, and people look around. I rejoice that so many of you look at me, because what is going on is simply between you and me, individually speaking. You are all very individual insofar as my awareness is concerned. There is also a collective picture. I am well aware of who is actually in communion with me and who is not. There is the human idea, very often, that one can be lost in the crowd. People like to do thatto feel that they are not on the spot, in other words. But when you come into this place you are never lost in the crowd. We rightly share a one-to-one connection, moving through this cycle of pulsation in the intensification, to prove out whether a person can be trusted to be with the Lordbe right there, and stay there. It’s customary in human nature for minds to wander all over the place and feelings to go this way and that way; it’s considered to be quite all right. Wouldn’t it be just wonderful if there could be the intensification which establishes a one-to-one connection, and that we never waver from that? Is that possible for an hour? Well we’re going to find out, and week by week we find out.

When there is a contained intensification—radiation contained, something building up in intensity—then there comes a point naturally in the creative process, a point of release, an outpouring of radiation. The contraction, and what happens consequent upon that, is designed to fuse into oneness the facility which at the point of release will allow for the radiation. In the recent Executive Council an analogy arose in the consciousness of those concerned, with respect to a magnet. That is a fused form which permits the radiation of a magnetic field. Without a magnet there is no magnetic field. This is described in the beginning of the Gospel of John when mention was made of the Word: “... the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Here is the magnetic field and the magnet. They are totally inseparable, and yet they are not the same thing. The magnet is useful because of the magnetic field; the magnetic field is useful because it allows the magnet to work. The concern has been to experience what is well symbolized by the magnet. We can’t have a magnetic field without a magnet, so that’s the first order of business, isn't it? Come together and allow the fusion to take place in the creative process, which is designed to permit what is symbolized by the magnet to take living form on earth. And this process we’ve had experience with—there begins to be the magnetic field. While we may follow out this creative pulsation in the way we’re doing, it is something that is happening altogether. It isn’t really as sequential as it appears, because there are pulsations within pulsations. We have a particular opportunity to follow out something here, if we will.

When there is a magnet there is a magnetic field; and the magnetic field, in our illustration, has effect upon iron filings; it has effect upon metal, which is capable of being magnetized. But the iron filings are not the magnet which produced the field upon which the iron filings lay themselves down. There is a distinction between the magnet, the magnetic field, and the iron filings—yet it is all one whole. When there is a magnet in this spiritual sense, there is a magnetic field and there is the attraction which is generated by that magnetic field for the iron filings, which would represent those who are capable of being magnetized. This doesn’t require judgment of anyone. Let the magnet be in place, let the magnetic field be in place, and everything else works itself out. Let it prove itself out. We find that where there is the fact of the magnet as it begins to put in an appearance, there is the fact of the magnetic field and that magnetic field is attractive to those who are capable of being attracted. Just let the field be there and you’ll find out. It isn’t a matter of like or dislike. It’s a matter of the real state of a person, and each one proves it out for himself.

This is what is happening in an increasing way now. It’s an electromagnet—there is a current flowing with respect to it, which is what produces the magnetism and extends the creative field in consequence. The current of life flowing through those who compose the magnet allows the magnet to be a magnet. And the magnet, being a magnet, has a magnetic field. Then the magnetic field, being a magnetic field, attracts what naturally is attracted to a magnetic field. This is the way by which, as it was so graphically put, the sheep are separated from the goats. And you don’t need to judge anyone. Let it work itself out. No judgment, no attempt to make it be any way other than the way it isjust a willingness to participate in the fused state of the magnet. We’re using this as an analogy. It's only an analogy; it isn’t the thing itself. Individually we are the thing itself, one way or another, sheep- or goatish. Our concern now, in view of the fact that we have found the creative process compelling us—here is the basis in form for what is required to extend that attractive radiation. But it isn’t all attractive; it’s repulsive too. What are you going to judge in that regard, when someone gets repulsed? One has to face facts, the way things are actually working and not the way human nature would like it to work—at all! That’s what’s going on.

So we participate in the natural pulsations of the creative process, but we begin to become aware of what it is that’s happening in any given moment. We have a particular collective responsibility here, over and above what is happening individually, to allow this fusion to occur, a fusion into what we have called a body. It’s a Core Body, something real, something not man-made, something not organized according to some human view. There are those who have been participating in what they would probably speak of as EDL and have thought of it as some sort of a human organization. Therefore they were in position to decide how it should be, because democratically, after all, the majority should determine how things should be. Don’t you believe it! Things are the way they are. The truth is. And we’d better like it—we’ll have to lump it anyway—and share in the awareness that personally speaking we have no life of our own, none whatsoever! That's a pretty tough pill to swallow by satan, and of course he chokes on it. There is the creative process, and participating in that there begins to be the experience of what life is. Human beings in human nature have no faintest idea what life is. We’ve all of us had our ambitions, human ambitions—good ones of course; they wouldn’t be bad, oh no! So we have good intentions. Good human intentions have no value whatsoever. The creative process is moving. Let’s just move with it; and whatever it brings forth, that’s all right. We don’t stop along the way—“Well I didn't expect it to bring forth this; I don’t like this.” If that sort of attitude does occur, the individual hasn’t really been moving with the creative process, because it is found that when one is the creative process it’s delightful. It’s what human beings are always looking forfulfilment—but you can’t get fulfilment in human nature.

We have had this opportunity now of participating in a creative cycle. A little intensity built up. Let it releaselet there be expansion. Expansion is, all these aspects of the creative process are, invisible to start with. They are what goes on in heavenwhat happens in spirit. What happens in spirit is reflected in form. But the form is secondary. It’s not the reason why one behaves the way one does. “Well if I behave this way I’m going to be healthy, I’m going to be wealthy, I’m going to be wise.” It doesn’t work. You participate in the creative cycle because you can’t do anything else. That’s the way it is. You have reached the point, presumably, where even mentally you have been able to see the futility of bucking it.

So, moving together in this creative process, we find ourselves participating in the various phases of the pulsation which is moving. And there is a very particular overall pulsation which relates to what is happening in this Central Council. This doesn’t mean that nobody else is participating. It’s the same pulsation that involves everybody, wherever they are. Some are aware of it, some are notmost are not. But we all share in that pulsation. Some share in this configuration and some share in that configuration; but the movement continues, and we rejoice that we may play our part in that movement easily, not because we are trying to figure it out or make it work but because we are sufficiently still, sufficiently open, have sufficient space in heart and mind to experience what it is that’s happening. And that is a wonderful thing. I rejoice in the privilege of sharing this with you at Central Council, and with everybody else all the time, if there is a willingness to share it. But one must, of course, be willing. So this particular aspect of the pulsation has included the whole cycle, but looking at it in another way we could see that it is just the beginning of a continuing process in which all may share.
