At the beginning of this class we pause for just a moment in an expression of thanksgiving to God for that which we were privileged to see last evening, the beginning of the application of water through our sprinkling system. It's a wonderful sight to me. I'm sure you all feel the same way. But to see that water reaching the plants and the soil when it is needed in such an application is indeed a joy unspeakable. And we thank God for the privilege we have of beholding it.

We have so many blessings, and the spirit of thanksgiving to God in a genuine sense is so vitally important to the development of the Shekinah Pattern in our lives. Many of you know that if you check back in my writings beginning in the early thirties, extending on through the intervening years, this has been a constantly recurring theme: the importance of thanksgiving, the attitude which permits the human being to begin to see and appreciate the things of God, with a consequent engendering of response to Center. There has been a very inadequate comprehension of the significance of thanksgiving, and I have sought in various ways through the years to engender, step by step, a deeper consciousness of that significance but it has not yet reached necessary proportions.

But when one really begins to let go in the Trinity of the Shekinah manifestation with the whole Trinity of one's own being, with open heart, we find some wonderful changes taking place, and the development of those changes in our lives is something which cannot be arbitrarily outlined or particularly prognosticated.  But you have gradually been letting go to a deeper sense of the working of the Fire, to the reality of the Light that Glows, and the Cloud that enfolds, and you begin to realize that this of which I speak is not limited by time or place or distance.

I might illustrate a little in this connection. Back through the years, as I have received letters of response from many places in the world, there have been those few who have by reason of response touched the hem of the garment.  Now what is the garment? You used to think of it as a linen robe, and think that the woman who had the issue of blood just touched the linen robe which the Master wore. That may, insofar as the physical factors are concerned, be the case. It perhaps could be, insofar as her consciousness was concerned, the key that opened the door. But the touching of the physical robe would accomplish nothing. She touched the hem of the garment, the garment of the Shekinah Cloud: “clothed with a garment down to the foot”—and it is this garment that was touched so long ago in relationship to our Master, and she was not the only one.

But there have been those letters of response which brought the focalization of qualities necessary to the process of touching the hem of the garment. And in those instances there have been many times when it was such that my whole body would feel as if it were vibrating in the magnificent current flowing forth to such openhearted response. There have been those men and those women who have occasionally shared in that. It is not something which I can impose; it is something which must be received. Once there is a realization that the blessings of the Shekinah Pattern cannot be imposed, that they must be received, we begin to be in position to consider the conditions essential in that receiving.

In this pattern of illustration which I have used, the letters I have received over the years, there has not been a consistent pattern with individuals or in the School as a whole. Sometimes we have gone for perhaps even weeks without a single letter reaching me which had the peculiar qualities necessary to the true release of this current in power. Other times I have received in one mail several. I have received such a letter perhaps from some individuals once and they write other letters following and no touching of the garment. Once we realize that while there may be some specific radiation in each letter, there may be something that will give a pattern of response which allows some blessing to manifest, but that it has been so haphazard, we can begin to see why I say that innumerable blessings from God have been passed by and ignored, never received, simply because human beings did not allow them to manifest.

The reality of Shekinah manifests according to response, but human beings trying to respond cannot receive it. We recognize the basic factors, the fulfilment of the Law, the patterns of response, of centering; we recognize the importance of a spirit of thanksgiving, an attitude of praise, a willingness to acknowledge the blessings of God. But all of these things, looked at by the human mind and established in a pattern to which the human being attempts to conform, will not permit the actual experience of that of which I speak.

I believe that since this Class opened a little over three months ago I have touched the point of the channeling of the patterns of response. Any blessing from God appears through some specific individual. This phase of the matter we were considering yesterday, the recognition that the needs of the individual must be filled by God through others. There must always be a complementing factor; there must always be a joining in the vibrational pattern somehow. The essence of that which is to manifest and fill a need in your life, or the life of another, may be present in you but it has to come to a point of joining, a point of the cycle, a movement, if it is to appear.

Now some of the things that are in essence, or in part, in you may need to be expressed on a positive vibratory factor in relationship to a negative point of focalization in someone else. This works without regard to sex, male or female, in the physical sense. In other words it is not a pattern of determining whether you are a man or a woman particularly—you will be a man or a woman in the Divine sense if you let it function correctly—but there may be that in you which needs to find expression because the positive pole is in you, the positive point which is to find expression. But that positive point cannot be just arbitrarily pushed out of yourself and injected somewhere. Somewhere there must be an individual who has the negative vibratory factor there. It may be a man or a woman—it does not make any difference, a child; it may be a group; it may be any combination. But somewhere, sooner or later, if the Divine Plan is allowed to work out, someone will appear who provides the negative point of polarity for the expression of this positive factor within you; and when they join and the cycle begins to move, something will take form, it will appear. It can be in any level. It may be in relationship to material things or it may be primarily mental or primarily emotional. It will have an overall pattern of course.

There are likewise factors in you, male or female, which are fundamentally negative poles of something, a half of something shall we say, and until the right person comes along with the right factor of positive expression which will allow that to come forth out of you, allow that vibratory current to join and move in a cycle, you cannot arbitrarily project it out of yourself and make it mean something. These vibratory factors which connect up are in all people, positive and negative in vibratory factor, and the living of life, the actual process of living, depends upon this connecting-up process. You can no more make any positive or negative factor in yourself complete itself for yourself or someone else than you can hop over the moon on one foot, and yet human beings are forever trying to do something like that. They assume that they can produce for themselves the things that they need for themselves, etc., and they make forms, imitations, idols, and become idolaters, and may worship with great devotion, but they never know the reality of living.

Now here at this point I must of necessity inject a parenthetical consideration, because as soon as these patterns actually begin to move in relationship to association one with another, as soon as some vibratory factor in you, be it positive or negative, tends to connect up with some vibratory factor in another person, the human mind and the impure human heart tend to start discoloring it, and if it be between male and female, one way or the other—the female may provide the positive factor in a multitude of cases, remember, in this vibratory sense, and the male the negative factor—and if it happens between male and female there is all too often a tendency to jump to a conclusion which causes that to be interpreted or translated on a basis which is not a part of the Divine Design.  Human beings aren't used to feeling vibratory attunement with others without attempting to make it into something.

I remember—this is perhaps extreme, but it does illustrate the point—there was a certain lady living in one of the Southern states who was a very fine person and who was very much interested in this service, and she gave financial assistance and helped out in various ways. And on a certain occasion it happened that I was in Florida and she came down there for a little visit. The vibratory patterns were not all that they ought to have been, it is true, but she came, needing some help physically. I think this must have been about 1940, if I remember right, or the winter of 40-41, somewhere in there. In any case, she was a maiden lady, probably somewhere in her fifties at that time, and she had a health problem and an emotional problem, extended of course into all phases. But I gave her an attunement, and apparently, of course being of that old Southern pattern—if you know anything about what that is—and a maiden lady and so on, she wouldn't say very much but she had a terrific reaction toward me. From the vibratory standpoint I could pretty well tell what had happened.

She began to feel the life force work in her body, and the life force had some relationship to the sex organs, because the sex organs are a part of the body. She began to feel things—whether she had ever felt them before or not I could not say, but at least it had been quite a while. And bless her precious heart, she began to come alive, and she decided forthwith that what I was doing was horrible, it was evil, it was of the devil, it was unspeakable, and she could not stand it. She wanted to get away as fast as she could, and in actual fact she withdrew from the service and just went down the drain, shall we say, the remainder of her life utterly meaningless, because she simply would not let her mind open, her heart open, she would not give herself a chance to begin to find out what was happening inside of her. But evidently she began to feel the life force at work and she translated it as something that was evil; and she must have assumed—I cannot make a positive statement; she didn't say so—but she must have assumed that I had some kind of designs on her, which was a far cry from the fact.

Well now, could she begin to live without living? What do people want for their nickel? They want to begin to live but they do not want to live. It's a peculiar thing. And the minute something begins to move, in the sense of the creative forces of the physical body, it is immediately translated into some kind of a personal pattern. Somebody decides, “Well I guess I'm falling in love with so-and-so,” or “I'm this, I'm that, I'm the other thing,” and immediately, the very minute something beautiful and lovely and glorious begins to work out because of the vibratory factors that take form, it starts getting put into all kinds of human patterns of reaction and concept and belief and futility, and it gets spoiled.

One of the things that you as servers will have to watch is the tendency for human beings to begin to feel the currents of life and then—well there are really three types of people in regard to this, if they begin to feel life. There will be those who react and assume, as this lady did, that you have some kind of designs or that you are working in some kind of an evil current because the life starts to flow, and they will react and withdraw and say all manner of evil against you falsely—and oh how I have had people say it about me! And then there are those who have a reasonable semblance of balance and do not jump to conclusions one way or another and just thank God that something is working, and if they do not understand it all they do not get all bothered about it. And then there is the class of those who, male or female, will feel it—in other words if you are a lady server, why it probably will be with a male; if you are a male server some female will probably reveal this pattern—and there will be a tendency to try to make it into something, to establish some kind of a personal vibratory pattern that has no place and is not in the Divine Design, something that ought not to be.

So you may as well recognize that if you are going to be an instrument through which people are brought into attunement with God and they begin to feel the Fire of Life in them, they are going to interpret it in all kinds of ways. And even if you are not functioning on the basis of a server, if some of these vibratory factors begin to get connected up, instead of waiting to see what it really is or how it really should be, the human being starts deciding, “Well I guess I'm in love with so-and-so,” or, “I would like to have so-and-so in some fashion or other,” instead of just letting it unfold and remembering that here we have the beginning of the basis of friendship, which most human beings thwart and destroy before it ever begins to really manifest. So there is always, the moment you begin to blossom, the moment any person begins to blossom, someone who will show up out of the world morass, someone who will show up to try to desecrate that blossom, try to destroy it, try to spoil it. They are going to pick it and let it wilt. Instead of seeing something beautiful and rejoicing in giving thanks to God that there is something beautiful and holy and sacred and sweet and wholesome in the world, they are going to spoil it forthwith, turn it into channels of self-centeredness and selfishness, supposed self-satisfaction.

So we need to remember that these various types of reaction are bound to appear, and we need to remember our High Calling in Christ as men and women and not let the lovely things of life be sullied by those who would love to pick the flower, hold it for a few moments, let it wilt and toss it to the side of the road. It is no good. So let us keep the pattern in the Divine Design, and let us let our lives and our ministry glorify God and be a true blessing unto others. But you never know how anyone is going to interpret or translate the beginning of the movement of life on the increase. Human beings very often try to take it to themselves in some fashion that is not right. On the other hand there are those who begin to feel something of that and they hold back. I have seen it so many times in relationship to myself.

Perhaps there are some factors here that may not manifest in quite the same way in relationship to you, but I have seen it so many times, that because someone does begin to feel the current of life working, the cycles moving, the individual is afraid of something or other, particularly afraid of himself or herself, and there is a holding back. The individual does not trust himself and consequently he does not trust me, and the thing is always kept on an off-key pattern. Oh there is response, yes! There is response. And they try to work it out, but it is always held in an off-key pattern; they never let it come out as an honest thing. Trust. True trust. If you have any cause to be afraid of me you are in the wrong place. You should not be here, because if I had any designs on you, or if I were intending to use you in some evil fashion, do you think if I chose to do it that your holding back or your doing this and that and the other thing, presumably to try to protect yourself, would protect you? It would not at all. I am not interested in any such thing, but if I were going to function on that basis I know enough of the tricks of the workings of the human mind so that you would never have a chance. Do you not know that? It is a fact. So if you are going to trust me enough to be here you might as well trust. And if you have not learned how to trust yourself, learn how to trust me.

This leads back to the point we were making a few moments ago before I interjected the parenthetical consideration, in relationship to this matter of thanksgiving and in relationship to the vibratory cycles. You have found that certain blessings appear from God through me, for instance, to you, and later on particularly—you have experienced it to some degree already—but later on, as you move into larger fields of service, the blessings of God will be appearing through you to others and you will run into the same thing because, while people are willing to receive the blessing through you, they are not going to let their spirit of thanksgiving to God go back through you. They are going to hand that to God personally. They cannot receive the blessing from God personally, they cannot reach out and say, “Thank you, Father. Here it is. I'll take it in my hand now and bring it down here and use it.” They have to receive it through you, but they are going to give the thanks to God personally; they are not going to give it back through you. And what happens?

The blessing that should have taken form and had meaning begins to evaporate and melt and disappear, and when it is gone the human being says, “Well I guess I was just deluding myself. I thought I was getting hold of a blessing and here it has just evaporated. It's gone!” Of course it is gone! You spoiled the cycles by which it was made manifest. You violated the principles of its manifestation because you were going to change the cycle. You let the cycle work until it begins to take form, and then instead of holding true to the principles of that design, you are going to short-circuit it, you are going to send it back, your spirit of thanksgiving and response, back from you right direct to God personally. And the cycle is broken; it is gone. Oh, you can have a spirit of thanksgiving to God in a direct sense if you want to—you should have—but I am talking about the actual working of the vibratory factors. Unless the response goes back through the channel through which you received, you are going to ruin it.

And when you are serving it will be the same thing. Someone says, “Well now, I received this blessing from God through so-and-so, through you, but I'll give my thanks back to God personally. I don't have to express any particular appreciation to so-and-so. After all, he or she is just a server. They are supposed to let the blessings manifest. Let them get along the best they can, any way they can. I'll do this, I'll do that, I'll do the other thing, and I'll expect to keep receiving over here, and I'll send it back to God this way and that way, and I'll work out all the designs.” I have had people say, “Well I've received a blessing from you. I know that. But I have to consider my church, you know. I belong to a church and I think they do very good work. I give my money there, you know. I'm happy to receive the blessings through you but I'll give my money over here.” Do they get the blessings very long? They do not! Why? Because I take it away from them? No. Because they throw it away! The blessings that appear through me must be appreciated back through me if they are to have any real meaning. And the same thing applies to you.

When you get out into the field and are serving, no matter where or how, that blessing which appears through you cannot remain real and in form and alive in the life of the one who receives unless the pattern of appreciation and response comes back through you to God. If you are a sufficiently good servant to let the blessing appear, you are a sufficiently good servant to convey the spirit of appreciation and response back to God; and you do not have to judge it. People will judge themselves and say, “Here, I think I'll get this blessing all right. I'll receive it. I know if I take some attunements I'll start feeling better, and then I can go out and do what I want to. I can do this, I can do that.” How few there are as yet who have reached a point where they are willing to sacrifice—to use the popular concept of the thing—to sacrifice a little bit, to express and acknowledge appreciation.

I have seen how many hundreds of people get well under the ministrations of my hands and my heart and my mind, the fact that I was living and serving, and those people could have done something. I am not talking about amount, but the person could have done something. He could have, if necessary, sold something or gone without something and given until it hurt, if they are going to feel hurt about it, until it really amounted to something. But how few have done it. A few have, but very few. And so very few kept their blessings. They thought they were going to get something for nothing, and they could do what they pleased with the blessings that accrued. You cannot, you know. They will evaporate and be gone. What is it people say about blessings that come through spiritual healing? “They don't last.” Sometimes they do not, but it is not because they were not real; it is because the people threw them away. They can last and they can be real, but there must be a cycle of response.

Now you will find as you are serving in the field that some people take the attitude, “Well after I've had all I want, after I've met all my expenses, and after I've had my fishing trip, and after I've had my shows, and after I've had my smokes, and after I've had my cokes, and after I've had this, and after I've had that, if I have a few pennies left I'll give them to you.” I have seen it over and over again. Do you think their blessings remain? They do not. Because they could not remain? Oh, they could have, but they did not respond, they did not accept really, and they did not maintain the pattern by reason of which that blessing had form to begin with. They killed it. It was not taken away from them.  They destroyed it by violating the Law. You will find that as you serve humanity they tend to give you a dribble of what is left, all the time. That is all right. Just a dribble of what is left and they expect that to be enough.

But blessed ones, you have to permit that condition to be, and to move forward in service without reaction, without any resentment. Why? Because sooner or later you will find someone who will let it be real, who will let it last, who will let it take form, and who will not be ashamed to take your hand and look you in the eye and say, “How I thank God for you! How I appreciate your ministry! How I thank God for the blessings I am receiving through you!” And then something will begin to take form, something of the kingdom will begin to shape, something real and lasting will begin to appear, and you will begin to know the real joys of ministry. These other things, the fleeting things that people throw away, no, those do not bring the joys of ministry. But somewhere, perhaps one in a thousand whom you serve will appreciate it and will respond, and will be honest enough to admit it and to express it to you, and then your ministry will begin to take form,  then it will begin to have life, then you will begin to have a control point, then you will begin to have a creative field, then the power will begin to appear because there is someone to receive it.

Does the power appear because the power can appear through you? Oh no. No.Set me down in a circumstance where there is no response and you will not see any more power appearing than from any man who lives in any pattern of life down the street. I don't just make the power appear. It has to appear because there is someone ready to receive it. It can appear. It could appear so rapidly through you that we could achieve a great deal more in the remaining period of this Class than we probably will. That is up to you. It could be. You are making progress. You are reaching a point where it could be a great deal more than it has been, than it is. The door is being opened, and what will you do with it? What others before you have done? Throw it away? Or will you let it increase?

Peter and the others back on the day of Pentecost just went out to throw it away as fast as they could, and it was not long until the power of God was not known on earth and they were throwing so-called Christians to the lions. Do you think, if Peter and the others had not violated the beginning of the manifestation of power on the day of Pentecost, they could have thrown real Christians to the lions? No! Nero or anyone else—they would not have had a chance. No. People talk as if the martyrdom back along the way was something really significant. It is a pitiful indictment, because human beings did not let the power manifest, they did not stay true to the pattern. And how is this going to appear? How are you going to begin to reach a point of the true spirit of thanksgiving, so that you do not take things for granted?

We should not ever take one tiny blessing from God for granted.

If we take it for granted, what do we do? We destroy it. It is like having a baby born, then tossing it in the corner, never feeding it, never changing its diaper, never doing anything for it, just letting it die. And that is murder. You take any blessing from God for granted and you destroy it. Only as you tend it and keep it, as God put it in the beginning with the children of men in the Garden of Eden—tend it and keep it, take care of it, appreciate it, show that you appreciate it by the way you take care of it, by what you do about it—only then does it begin to grow instead of shriveling and dying so that a poor little form, the skeleton of a babe, has to be buried. It grows and is such a charming thing, and you love to watch it grow—watching a baby grow, whether it is a physical baby or the other kind of baby, the manifestation of the blessing of God to you, through you.

Now this is what we might call a large subject. There are other things to consider; but if you have allowed yourself to share the spirit of this meditation, so that it has penetrated into your heart and means something to you, we can move much more rapidly than we have and our next class will mean much more to you than it would otherwise.

That’s Enough!

Thinking particularly of the male of the species Homo sapiens—of all misnomers!—there has been the complete absence of the reality of manhood on earth. There can be no manhood without acknowledging, in the expression of living, certain facts. We looked at these facts this morning, [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/no-more-sea-martin-exeter-june-14-1987.html] the fact of the power of love. This should be a self-evident fact in view of the operation of the universe. Some scientific gentlemen along the way have introduced the idea that only because of the intelligence exhibited by man has intelligence been introduced into the universe. What unspeakable arrogance!

Not so very long ago I spoke about manhood: Let There Be A Man On Earth. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2020/10/let-there-be-man-on-earth.html] A man is responsible for the power of love, bringing to focus in a specific sense the creative process, which is in fact operative throughout the whole universe. But man—I am still speaking of the male, by the way—has a primary responsibility in letting this focus be established. Unfortunately the male of the species has invariably been subject to the female. He may not look at it that way but it’s the fact of the matter. In the story of human failure the female was supposed to have been initially responsible. If that should be the fact of the matter and the male has subsequently remained subject to her—contrary, mind you, to the view of many females—then the state that was introduced into the experience of mankind is still well maintained; and the results are obvious. Even with the rather limited evidences of intelligence on the part of the human race, both male and female, it is quite unavoidable in these days not to recognize what it is that has been produced on earth by the behavior of humankind.

It seems that those who are included in this classification of humankind spend the days of their years blaming one another for their troubles. Returning to the male once more, if such an attitude is taken—it certainly is by men, as well as women of course—but if it is taken by men then here is an immediate evidence of the failure to assume responsibility. Of course we are familiar with that ancient story about Adam and Eve who hid themselves behind the trees in the garden when the LORD God came walking in the cool of the day, calling, “Where art thou?” Here was an abject state, certainly not revealing of either manhood or womanhood—but certainly not of manhood. “Oh the woman thou gavest to me, she tempted me.” The same sort of puerile attitude has been maintained throughout the history of the human race: “Someone else is to blame.” And accusation runs rife.

We have seen all this and presumably have decided that such a ridiculous attitude was no longer tenable insofar as we are concerned. There is nothing that can be done, of which I am aware, to stop human beings from indulging themselves in this consistent attitude and state of accusation. “Who is to blame?” This is the first order of business when anything happens: Who is to blame for it? We have a situation in North America, for instance, where anyone who starts to take responsibility for action of some kind will be immediately opposed. Of course all this opposition is spawned by fear and greed, two of the primary attributes of humankind. Speaking of these things, one pauses to remember that one is humankind oneself. Nothing is gained by accusing oneself, any more than by accusing others.

What I have been saying is not intended as an accusation. It is merely a facing of facts, of honestly looking at the situation as it actually is. We do not separate ourselves from others in this regard with some sort of a holier-than-thou attitude. Accusations still occur, judgments still take precedence on occasion, so that our circumstances and the people around us determine how we behave. We have all been tarred with this same brush, and the results are everywhere evident. But we come to a point where, in all honesty, we may say, insofar as our own expression of living is concerned, “That’s enough! It’s gone on long enough.” How long, who knows? Twenty thousand years? But it’s gone on long enough. It comes to issue. It obviously is coming to issue, whether anyone likes it or not. Thank God for those who like it, because if they like it they are not going to complain about it, for one thing; and they are not going to accuse anybody about it.

It is a most delightful and wonderful fulfilment that all this muck and mire that has been produced on earth by filthy human beings, ourselves included, finally comes to the point, because there are those on earth who take that attitude, that that's enough! Is this not an attitude of absoluteness? We have spoken of that before. Human beings are expert at temporizing, hiding behind the trees: “Poor us. We have been so badly treated.” Nonsense! We have just gotten what was coming to us, that's all. Thank God that the Cosmic Law, if we could call it that, works. You can't get away with anything. Human beings have been trying to get away with things for a considerable period of time. They have never succeeded, but they are so dumb, I suppose you could say, that they keep trying. They are going to do what they want to do; they are going to achieve great things. Well we know all about that. Enthusiastic ambition is another human trait—some have it.

All this has produced a situation where the very planet, though having been so kind along the way, is reaching a point where it cannot handle the mess the way it has been handled anymore. There is a point of no return. I think that has been passed. But still we are inclined to go blindly along on the basis of the same old habits of old, as though there would be no day of retribution. Individually human beings have come to a day of retribution regularly in every generation. If it happens to the individual it can happen to the whole body of mankind. Mankind is important; otherwise I think they would have slipped into oblivion long ago.

But there is a task for which MAN was created, and for that task to be accepted again there must be a man—and here I am speaking of the male of the species—because without a man there is not going to be a woman. It has been said that women are going to lead the way back into the kingdom of heaven. Obviously the female of the species has a job to do, just the same as the male—not the same job—but she will not be restored to her true estate without there first being a man. This is not an arbitrary thing; it’s merely the way the creative process works. Human beings have been very ardent about trying to defeat the way the creative process works and substitute their own schemes, but none of them have worked, and none of them could ever work.

These days people are always looking for a breakthrough, in this field or that field. No one ever stops apparently to consider that all the tribulations that afflict mankind have been brought about by the behavior of mankind. The idea is that we will have a breakthrough, so that we can continue to behave the way we have always behaved. And we are going to get away with it. As I recall, that idea was promulgated by the serpent, whoever the serpent was, when he said, “Ye shall not surely die. The human race will persist.” Of course we found out that individually we do die, but that is taken to be the normal course of events, the sure thing: death—and taxes of course, but taxes are recognized as being a human imposition. Death is not seen that way. But it is exactly the same thing. It was humanly produced by human failure, by the lack of manhood on earth, for one thing, and the consequent lack of womanhood. And we have these pallid creatures creeping around on the surface of the earth claiming to be men and women.

But it is a fact, it can be stated—whether anyone accepts it or not is another question—that MAN, male and female, was created in the image and likeness of God to reveal the controlled operation of the creative process brought to focus because of MAN, male and female, here on this particular little planet. Mankind has sure botched it up, haven’t they? But we come to a point now when the books are on the way to being balanced, and it doesn’t need a computer to do it either! Sharing something of this awareness, is there anything else that one could honestly do other than accept the responsibility that is the commission of men and women made in the image and likeness of God? Think of all the excuses that rise up when a statement such as that is made: “Oh, it couldn’t be! I am too humble.” Let’s find out whether it’s the right thing to do, whether it’s true or not, simply by doing it. Who has the guts? Well we are finding that out too, because it is certainly contrary to everything that human beings have accepted into their experience in this deplorable human state. Seeing it is such a deplorable state, why should there be any hesitancy in accepting a different state, what may well be defined as a new heaven and a new earth?

So we share an opportunity here, some of us have shared it for many years, not to try to make the world over, not to generate any more techniques or schemes for producing heaven on earth, because every last one of them has failed all down the millennia, as witness the present state of the world. What's the point of trying to produce more? I would say it’s the height of stupidity to keep doing the things which have proven to be destructive all through the ages, utilizing the same old worn-out methods to try to solve all the problems that put in an appearance. Problems that put in an appearance cannot be solved. It may seem as though one has a solution to something, but it produces more problems. For every solution to some problem that you so intelligently produce, you have probably created about ten more problems. It’s futile! It’s overwhelming in the end, and it’s not far from the end apparently.

We begin to be aware that man is created in the image and likeness of God. This is MAN, male and female. God is characterized by love. Love is the power, the power which might be said to fuel the operation of the universe. Human beings have long lost the experience of love. They have something that they call love, but that emotional state is not God. God is love. Love is the power for creative action; truth, design and control, is the means for creative action; and life itself is the action. We are well aware that mankind has denied the power of love, has denied the truth, the design and control already established, which certainly implies immediately that human beings do not need to invent designs and ways of control. Yet this has occupied human experience for a long time. There are all kinds of designs with which we are familiar—humanly produced. The nations themselves are humanly produced; the governments of the nations are humanly produced; the social systems, the cultures, everything is humanly produced. And while it has not been recognized, at least in recent times, that it is an endeavor to defeat God, nevertheless that’s what it is, to defeat the creative process—which is utterly stupid!

The creative process operates the universe. Is some silly human being on the face of this planet going to defeat it in favor of establishing his own design, and his own desires and his own ideas with respect to fulfilment? Yet this is the human state. The light shines in darkness but the darkness comprehends it not. The truth is present, love is present, the power is present, the creative process is working, but human beings take no notice. We have all conducted our lives along these lines in times past but now exhibit at least some willingness, I trust, that all such nonsense should be relinquished. Oh yes, we have things to do in the external sense. But the question is: Why do we do the things we do?

Is it to give the power of love opportunity for radiation in our living?

Is it to permit the design and control of truth to emerge in the creative process?

Is it to allow the increased vibrancy and glory of life to be made known?

   

We may find many different ways by which this may happen, but the happening all occurs within oneself, and it is not controlled in any way rightly by anything that happens in the external sense. As long as the things of the external world can control us and dictate to us the way we should behave, we are dead. That takes a person right down into nothing. That causes a world to be created in the image and likeness of these puerile human beings. That world will pass away inevitably, inexorably. Will there be anything left? Of course—if there are those present on earth who reveal the power of love in their momentary living, working according to the design and the control of truth which is already a fact. It doesn’t need to be invented; it’s there already and will appear when allowed to do so.

Did human beings have to invent the trees, the flowers? There is the idea that human beings are so great because they can procreate. “I can create a new human form.” (Of course it takes two of us!) So human beings pat themselves on the back and overpopulate the planet. This is the one field where human beings are able to create a living form. In all other fields they may adapt already-existing living forms, but they cannot create living form; although it seems as though they are on the verge, just on the verge, of doing this. This is something that has happened before in the history of mankind: overpopulating the earth and coming to the point where it was possible to create monsters. Well we have created some monsters. Up to this point they are inanimate, except for humankind itself. That’s a monster indeed!

We come again to the point of accepting responsibility for the creative power of love, in a recognition that the design and the control of truth is already present and simply needs to be given space to emerge in our own living. It is this that allows MAN to be restored. It is this expectation of restoration to the state of MAN that has permitted the human race to survive to this point. If this does not happen it will survive no further. But it does happen, because there are those who accept the responsibility and are not looking to someone else, even to Jesus or some believed-in God, to get the job done. MAN gets the job done; he was created to do the job. There is no sense in him being present on earth if he doesn’t get the job done. And who is going to accept that responsibility? It takes a very humble person to do it, but it takes an attitude of absoluteness where one says with respect to oneself, “I am responsible.” It all happens because I take responsibility, not because we take responsibility. The fact of the matter is that when “I” take responsibility, “we” also take responsibility. And that is a marvelous thing. We discover that there is a unifying influence in the power of love. It holds all things together.

It is considered that the universe is mostly space and little bits of flotsam and jetsam floating around in the way of galaxies, etc. The universe is one living whole. The galaxy is one living whole, this galaxy in which our solar system is present. The solar system is a living whole. The earth itself is a living whole. Life is everywhere. Because human beings have been so busy making sure that they died, they have overlooked the fact that life is everywhere and that it is evidence of complete failure to die. That comes because a human being—we are thinking of human beings in this instance—has removed him-or herself from the whole. This is the human endeavor, isn’t it? “I am an individual. I am a very important person. I am going to achieve something in spite of all the opposition that I have. In spite of all the hostility around me, I am going to get something done.” All alone? You’re dead! Life is of the Whole—and unless the individual is included in that whole he’s dead. We have a little time, a few years, a life span, to be willing to let ourselves be included in the whole and live. Virtually no one ever does it because they are all frantically going after their own thing.

Finally, relinquishing such stupidity, we may be drawn back by the power of love into the whole. And we are drawn back because the substance of our being begins to resonate with that radiation of love. As the substance of our being resonates with the radiation of love, we are drawn to that radiation. There is union, and there is participation in unified radiation.

David has very effectively led up to what we have called the Second Sacred School. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/extending-from-motherland-sacred-thread.html] His emphasis is noteworthy—on those who carried through during very difficult times. There were instances where it looked like the population of the earth had had it! But there were those who had been true to the Lord, and this is a vital aspect of this whole story, because here we are.
 

I am to share with you something of the New Testament. There was enough substance established in the earth, through the ages, to enable the Greatest One to come and take human form in the world exactly the way it is and maintain his Divine Identity. There were many, as we've noted, who carried through with substance, but here was a unique example of something that never wavered, that never compromised. And these were difficult circumstances into which He came. I think that many people believe, perhaps subconsciously, that somehow Jesus moved through life with special privileges, that He was recognized as special, and made way for. No. He was born into a people who were persecuted. We can see that in the world today. I would mention that there was a stigma attached to an illegitimate person that is not as intense today. He went through all that maintaining absolutely His Divine Identity.
 

At His birth there were a few who knew of His coming. This indicates that something was present on the face of the planet. There has been mention of wise men; they were wise, and they are often called kings. They were wealthy people. These were aware of His coming because of a star, which they followed. There are, I think, many people who perhaps see the star, but it needs to be followed if one is going to find the Christ. And remember that the Christ always is everything said of this angel. That was one end of the social spectrum—wealth, position and nobility. The other end were the shepherds. They were not wealthy; they lived in the fields and kept animals—the other end of the spectrum. But they saw and knew the sign. They didn't call it a star; they called it an angel. In the Bible an angel represents light. I'm not saying it couldn't be a being, but it is light, as was the star. There are different ways, but they must be followed; there must be a steadfast attunement with that to find the source. They came to the same place. 

There is an interesting observation with respect to the angel, when the shepherds saw the angel. The minute there is an identification and recognition of the angel, "Suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host." Here is a connection with all the power in the cosmos, once we have that identity of the angel. It's all connected. I think there is a subconscious idea that the cosmos is out there somewhere. Well what are we in? This is the cosmos. I am a part of the cosmos. And the angel said it was all related. But it happens; it isn't always put off for next week or next year. At some point suddenly it's done. And why not now? The heavenly host on earth was present, yes, in human form; but the heavenly host in all the realms was present. And the veil, in my estimation, has become very thin. We are working with masters on all planes. They have been on earth all the way through the history, as David brought out, magnificent response, or the Master could not have come. His words are the wonder of the Bible.
 

The first recorded words in the Bible of Jesus were of the magnificent expression through Him at twelve years old. To me this indicates the true design for God's creation. The idea is that you have to live, what? twenty-one years to reach maturity. It takes different periods of time. It's all right, as long as we get there. But at twelve years Jesus found himself in the Temple with the learned men, doctors. That doesn't mean they were all medical doctors. They were doctors of science, of psychology, etc. One can imagine His joy in hearing all of this, the history, everything, and the wisdom came through Him. One can sense that wisdom through Him put the meaning in all of this wonderful learning. And these learned men were astonished and kept Him there for quite a while. So when His parents came for Him, they said, "How could you do this to us?" and that's understandable. And what did Jesus say? "Oh you don't understand." He said, "Wist ye not"—Don't you know?—"that I must be about my Father's business?" Don't you know that you must be? But He went home with them, and it is said He was subject to them, which means He was truly wise and fit Himself into the pattern where He found Himself. 

The close of that particular chapter is that He grew in grace and stature, and in favor with God and man. That says a lot. It was not just in favor with God. There are some who think if you are in favor with God you've got to be against everybody. He grew in favor with God and man, and it was proven in His ministry, the magnetism of His being which drew everyone to Him, men, women, children. Love was His message. 

There is a hiatus here, and people have tried to find out what Jesus did in that time between twelve years and something like thirty. I think that gap is very wise. Some say they know what He did, but they don't, because this is the way it should be. If all His movements were known, every day and everything, wouldn't there be some who would say, "Well if I do all those things I will arrive"? The way doesn't matter as long as it is in that direction and coming to the Lord. So it's left open, wisely.

The next reference is at the time of His ministry. After His baptism He met the devil, it is said. But in that same text where it speaks of the devil, he is also called the tempter. That's a very accurate term. Who has never been tempted by anything? And we have His magnificent answers on each of the three planes. The first of course is the physical, and then the mental. The third, the spiritual expression, was the crux, where He told the devil where he could go. Of course that's where he lives anyway! That temptation was exactly the same as what Judas presented to Jesus, which resulted in Jesus being in Gethsemane—the very same temptation. Whether this early meeting of the tempter was with a person, we don't know, and it doesn't matter, but it was all met by Jesus. Here was something in the mental level which recognized the power of Jesus, absolutely, and was saying, "With your power and your magnificent mind, you can have all the wealth in the world." Well that temptation hasn't disappeared. It hasn't been denied very much either. But this is what Judas was presenting to Jesus. He believed in His power, in the magnificence of His mind, and he said, "All the kingdoms of this world belong to the King. Let's do it, let's get them! You can do it." Oh he believed in His power. If his intention was that Jesus would die he never would have gone out and committed suicide. He'd have rejoiced. That was not the way he wanted it to happen, and he was the treasurer. That was met early in Jesus' life; in fact, the first reference we have after His baptism, the magnificence of this victory which carried through in Gethsemane, on the cross. He came to show that the way which man had chosen was completely opposite from that which the Lord intended. 

The Angel's Song was "Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth, good will toward men." God's will is good will toward men. Elsewhere it is said that the Lord is not willing that any should perish. He isn't decreeing the death of anybody, although this is what man has attributed to Him. And you can hear people saying, "Why is God doing this to us now?" God didn't pollute the atmosphere! He didn't do any of that. So there is a dominant opinion that death is the will of God. There is nothing wrong with death in the fallen state. What would happen without it? It is a blessing! This is the fallen state. It is a complete change of man's ordained state. That decree is life, and Jesus proved that on the cross and in the tomb; it was a womb rather than a tomb. And on the cross He delivered His capacities, which included the subconscious, into the hands of the Lord. He said, "Into Thy hands I commend my spirit," but it was His action doing it. He was in control. And then we know the story of the light in the tomb and His coming forth, and the wonder of His whole life from beginning to that last. And there were other characters in the New Testament. I'm not going to include those characters. And there has been additions of verses throughout the Bible, not just in the New Testament, when it was compiled, some attributed to Jesus which are not His. But they are very easy to see; they jump out at you. The words of Jesus are wonderful and tell of His magnificent life. 

So where does that bring us? How does that connect with where we are now?—the life of Jesus. To make a connection I go to the fifteenth chapter of John. In the days when I was new in the ministry—those on the mailing list when Uranda was here were told to memorize the fifteenth chapter of John. I couldn't repeat it now, but I could at one time. I mention that because it emphasizes the importance of this piece, and I'm going to read a bit of it now:

"I am the true vine…" Not "I am the vine." There is a big vine on the face of the earth, a huge body. But "I am the true vine."

"... and my Father is the husbandman." That says it, doesn't it? This is where we are; this is His Body on earth now. "I am the true vine," and He led the way for this vine. It's a perfect symbol, essentially the Tree of Life. The Tree of Life has branches, as does a vine. "I am the true vine..." 

"Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away; and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit." So we rejoice in the purging, don't we? 

"I am the vine, ye are the branches; He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing." This is the life of the whole body of mankind. We're speaking of the focus of that body. Everything has a focus, and the love that comes through Him is what He always emphasized. 

"If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered, and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned." This has always happened but this is a very special time. It doesn't say that He does anything to judge which branch will be burned and which will survive; simply, "Those that abide in me belong to the Body." And there is much that has been burned; it is obvious. He says that what does not belong it will separate itself and be withered, and then burned in the fire. But it is self-destruction; it is not God's will. God's will is to let this mess be cleaned up. It has to be or the earth will not survive. 

"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.  Herein is the Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit... 

"This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you." As He has loved us. That is without discrimination. It is the shining of the sun, and that which receives the light of the sun decides in itself whether it will be burned in the fire or whether the fire of love will draw it unto itself. It's all the fire of love.

At this point I will go back to one of the great ones in the Old Testament, closer to the New Testament. I'm going to mention Isaiah. He was a mighty prophet. He didn't have a lot to do with the history, as it was being told, but he was a prophet. He was one who recognized that upcoming was a New Heaven and a New Earth, and he delineated it exactly in those words. But I want to read something he said which applies to this time.

He is, what shall we say, quoting God. As we know, there has been that all through the Book, where "God said this." Well, Jehovah was saying this, and that means the Body of God expressing through human beings: 

"Now will I sing to my well-beloved [the Lord] a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My well-beloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill;" How better could this earth be described than "a very fruitful hill"? It is fruitful. It will bring forth what anyone plants. And here are some of the most poignant words ever uttered: 

"And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof..." He did everything. He made a winepress therein so that the fruit of the vine could be made into the wine of life—a purpose. 

"... And he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes." Here is the poignancy: "What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?" An insight into the wonderful heart of God. "What could I have done more?" How could man have been created any other way except with free choice? Not an automaton! An automaton is not the image and likeness of God. So it is for us to exercise that free will and live the words of the Lord: "Thy will, O Lord, be done, not mine."

This is a beautiful passage: "wild grapes came forth." "Wild" describes that which is out from under control, the control of the spirit of God. You can take a beautiful rose bush, and if it goes wild it will bear a lot of little flowers, but not the beautiful creation of a gorgeous rose. The design is not there. 

I close on that note. We say the Law works. It does. And we can see the futility of man-made laws. I'm thinking particularly now of one they are trying to pass to do away with hate crimes. Man cannot make a law to do away with hate. But there is a Law that works absolutely. It is the Law of Love, and that governs this vine. We have no business saying that branch doesn't belong and this one does. How wonderful! There is a diversity in the branches, which makes it what it is. Each human being is a branch and completely different. These are meant to abide together under the One Law. That Body works, and the Law is Love, as Jesus taught. The two great commandments are to love the Lord, and then you love everybody. You'd think that was the simplest thing in the world, to love. Sometimes it seems to be the most difficult. This is the commandment. Let the Lord decide, let love decide, but let's not hold back. Love and truth we are.
