The Positive and Negative Aspects of Identity

The  Positive  and  Negative  Aspects  of  Identity

Martin Exeter   July 8, 1984

The immediate circumstance is the one we have—when our thought does come to focus here, then the action of spirit may open up something new and fresh. We speak glibly of the current of the spirit but it is very real and always present. We have at times, I’m sure, been inclined to let it slide by, unassociated with it. If we do that too much and too often we’ll find ourselves forced into a comer, which says in effect: Come to focus and allow some real thinking to occur, to occur in the assumption of the particular responsibility that is waiting to be assumed by you. And whatever responsibilities you may have now, or think you have, I’m sure it would be safe to say that “they ain’t the half of it!” There is something far greater, far more.

I think when we speak of oneness, very often the concept of the blob appears in consciousness, where everything loses identity. Oh yes, there's one great big identity, but all the little ones somehow or other got lost in the shuffle. We are quite aware that we are responsible for the unique differentiation of the one spirit, which immediately refutes the concept of the blob. We have a certain awareness of the necessity of the positive and negative aspects of identity. The positive and negative are active in what has humanly been described as the atom. There is considerable differentiation in this field. There are an abundance of elements, and then combinations of elements, combinations of atoms composing molecules, molecular structures built into cells, and so on—seemingly a very complex business but giving evidence of a certain design. Things work in a certain way. That way would never put in an appearance at all if it weren’t for the factors of positive and negative.

We have recently been talking about primary identity and secondary identity. Secondary identity has taken over in human experience to the exclusion of primary identity, at least insofar as any awareness is concerned. This emphasizes the matter of balance, amongst other things, because it’s not supposed to be all secondary identity, nor all primary identity. Perhaps when we have looked at secondary identity as exemplified by human nature, then that needs to pass away. But if we think of these things in terms of positive and negative—the primary identity positive, and this could be called a heavenly identity presumably; and the earthly identity negative—here are two aspects of one identity, both essential.

Nothing can ever be brought to focus without the active presence of positive and negative. We can see this in many different ways, but we can see it from the standpoint of the aspect of heavenly identity and the aspect of earthly identity. Heavenly identity in heaven wouldn’t be of much value on earth. It is by reason of the fact of the aspect of earthly identity that heavenly identity has value on earth. There are these two aspects of identity and they are not supposed to obliterate each other.

There has been a tendency for human beings to drift toward a neutral state. We have this word “unisex” these days, as though everybody becomes the same and you can't tell the difference really. Well I doubt if it would ever get quite that far. But certainly from the standpoint of the appearance of things it seems that the blob is appearing—a state of nothing. The state of nothing is the state where positive and negative are not active. Very often the idea of oneness brings a picture of two aspects so fusing together that there is only one aspect. But if there is only one aspect, that’s nothing. The something only comes because there are two aspects, because the positive and negative are present. We have male and female in this regard too. Very often it is felt that what really is necessary is for male and female to so get together, so press up against each other, that ultimately they'll just fuse; and then supposedly you just have one person. No, you just have nothing! because nothing is the state where positive and negative are not active. So it isn’t that; oneness isn’t that.

Oneness requires the various aspects which compose the design. There is just one design, but it isn’t a blob—it is really rather a complex design, very interesting. It works the way it does, whether human beings understand it or not. But we can recognize that our experience of unique individuality is based in the fact that positive and negative are active. We see this, individually speaking, because there is a heavenly aspect of identity and an earthly aspect of identity, and we are no longer interested presumably in trying to obliterate the heavenly aspect of identity by making such a big fat earthly aspect of identity; that’s called the human ego. If we really succeed in that we’re dead, we’re nothing, because the positive heavenly aspect has been obliterated from the unified experience.

The unified experience is illustrated by the concept of the atom. It is one thing, but it has a composition—the simplest one, perhaps the hydrogen atom: one proton, one electron—but even in the simplest design the positive and negative are active; otherwise there would be nothing. So we are concerned that this should continue to be so. We may recognize that there is positive space and negative space. We can see this from the standpoint of male and female. A male has certain space which he rightly occupies and the female likewise. Now there is a design in relationship to that space. It isn't as though anybody has the right to invade somebody else’s space. We need to recognize that there is a design and there are certain ways in which the design works.

The working of the living design is controlledit isn’t haphazard. In examining into such things those who do this sort of work come up with various theories as to why things work the way they work, and perhaps they postulate certain laws which are supposedly controlling the way things work—but it is a lot of theoretical nonsense which excludes the experience that is available for human beings by which they might participate individually in this matter of the positive and the negative, first of all with respect to oneself.

There is the positive heavenly aspect of identity and the negative earthly aspect of identity. If we begin to look at it this way we do not need to assume that the negative earthly aspect of identity is human nature. It has only become human nature because that negative earthly aspect has tried to obliterate the positive heavenly aspect. This is exactly what human beings have done. They have become lopsided, grotesque creatures, unbalanced creatures, irrational creatures consequently. And certainly I doubt if anyone could question the fact that we live in a very irrational world. Why is that? Did someone come from outer space and make it an irrational world? Was it bequeathed to us by an irrational God? No, irrational human beings made it that way and keep it that way. All right, we are interested in letting that pass away. We don’t wish that it should pass away leaving nothing, but rather leaving the activated positive and negative.

The first requirement is, as individuals, to allow a balance to come between the positive heavenly aspect of identity and the negative earthly aspect of identity. If a balance comes individually then there may be a natural unfoldment where there is a balancing out between those who are individually balanced. We have the peculiar spectacle of imbalanced, irrational human beings trying to balance themselves out amongst themselves, as though two irrational people would make one rational person. It doesn’t work that way. Unless there is balance in the individual, how could it be expected that there would be balance between individuals? People rush helter-skelter into peculiar and irrational designs of relationship. We are concerned with the restoration of balance, so that there is proper positive space and proper negative space related to each other. Nobody can figure out what that relationship is mentally. Nobody can make it happen on the basis of human emotion. These things are brought to pass by reason of spirit.

In order that there may be a focus of spirit so that it becomes intelligible, there is the need for what we have called a lens. There is a positive and negative aspect to the lens. Only because this is so can spirit be brought to focus in rational experience. This is why the importance of balance is emphasized. If one aspect excludes the other aspect there can’t be balance.

We ourselves have a certain experience of the awakening of the heavenly aspect of identity. We are still very much tarred with the brush of the earthly aspect of identity, so that this looms very large and seems to be the most important part of the experience of identity. Most people are a little reluctant to begin to relinquish their grasp on this aspect of identity for fear that if they did so they would become nothing. But the fact of the matter is they become nothing by hanging onto the earthly negative aspect of identity, so that that becomes all there is. When it becomes all there is in the experience of the person, that is nothingall experience, all life, is dependent upon the two aspects—positive and negative. They must be there.

We have seen the positive and negative aspects as it relates to spirit: love and truth. Love and truth establish what is illustrated by the lens, and the focus which appears is life. We have some recognition of how this has unfolded within the range of our own experience. The One called Jesus is recognized as bringing to focus the spirit of love. We have had the opportunity of recognizing that the one called Uranda brought to focus the spirit of truth. Here is the lens which allowed the focus of spirit, the focus of the Father, to appear: the spirit of life. Here is the focus with which we are directly concerned—I have a particular part to play in that regard. That is the point of focus, but the point of focus would not be there at all if it were not for the lens. And the lens relates to the spirit of love and the spirit of truth, not just from the standpoint of certain individuals, in this case Jesus and Uranda, but from the standpoint of each individual.

It is love and truth which permit a lens to be a reality by reason of the presence of a person on earth. We are very much aware that the spirit of love and the spirit of truth in human experience have been very roughly handled, very largely excluded. We have a great deal of hate, a great deal of resentment, a great deal of fear, rather than love; and we have lies and falsehood rather than truth. That’s a pretty rough lens. And what does it bring to focus, do you suppose? What is called death, rather than life. The exclusion of love and truth dissolves the lens which would bring to focus life. The exclusion of love and truth causes the experience of the lack of love and truth, which I have described with certain words, and so, fundamentally, nothing is brought to focus—nothing, we call death.

We share the particular opportunity of letting these two aspects of spirit form the basis of our character, the basis of the lens which we are, so that, individually speaking, life may be brought to focus. The fact of the matter is that we cannot function merely as isolated individuals. The very moment that love and truth begin to characterize one’s own experience in living, one finds that one is related in a design. This is the way that this living form of the messiah has begun to put in an appearance. It is always true that if any are bound none are free. Here we are moving in a creative cycle which is absolute. When none are bound, all are free. The creative cycle of course dissolves what has maintained the isolated state in which human beings exist for a few short years.

Once again there begins to emerge the real body to give focus to spirit, which may be called the Son of Man—that’s the earthly aspect of identity—in balance with the Son of God, which is the heavenly aspect of identity. And the word Son is used because of the use of the word Father: whatever it is of spirit which fathers the Son, the Son who has these two aspects of identity. As this occurs there is life. “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” But it works according to the real design of things. It doesn’t work when human beings ignore that and try to maintain a condition pleasing to themselvesin the final analysis it never really is.

In the development of this body it has been within a certain setting—there are many aspects to that setting—wherever the body is beginning to emerge. There are many things in those settings, useful things when right use is made of those things by the focus of spirit in expression through the emergent body. We cannot rightly lay claim to any of those things, humanly speaking. If we do we are thieves. We have noted before that the world is a den of thieves because all human beings everywhere have done this: tried to possess for themselves the things that are in the setting where the body of spirit should live.

There is the human view, isn’t there, that we have a rightto a certain amount anywayof the things that are present in the setting. But it is there in order to provide a facility for the development of the body, and for the active function of the body: the right use of what is present in that setting. And who is it that can make right use of that? Certainly not the earthly aspect of identity all on its own, which is what has been undertaken by human beings everywhere and still is maintained as a right from the standpoint of those who are beginning to allow this body to take form.

We come again to an awareness that the positive and the negative must be active in balance. The action of the positive aspect, where the action originates, has meaning because of the presence of the negative aspect, which allows that action to occur. And there is no distraction. There are no thieves aboard. It is a house of prayer. The body which takes form is a house of prayer. It is filled with the spirit of the Father, revealed through the two aspects of identity unified—heavenly and earthly. They are distinct in their fields of operation but they are one in the operation. It is one operation, and we share that operation as we relinquish the role of thieves in favor of a state of prayer. It rests in this fundamental factor of the positive and the negative—they must both be present and in balance. And we have the opportunity of participating in the process by which this happens, so that we may be balanced rational people.

The Body of the Messiah

from

The  Body  of  the  Messiah

Martin Exeter   July 8, 1984

Day in and day out, week in and week out, month in and month out, year in and year out, decade in and decade out, I, together with those who have been with me, through services, classes, and whatever came in between, have maintained a spiritual focus on earth. This certainly was not initiated by us. In recent times Uranda, whom a number of you knew in person, provided the point of initiation, but this was just a refocalization of what had been established long ago through that focus of spirit which was known on earth through the One called Jesus.

Over the centuries, what was factually established by Him has been present with the children of men regardless of race, creed, color or anything else. Finally it came again to point, so that this focus of spirit has been reestablished and maintained over the last fifty years. In consequence of this, and not because of any organizational undertakings, there has been drawn together a flesh body, part of the composition of which is presumably present in the Chapel this morning.

Jesus has been referred to as the Messiah, the Christ, the Anointed One. Human beings have been inclined to look for a messiah—someone, a leader of some kind, spiritual, political, whatever—who might relieve human beings of assuming their own responsibility. Jesus has been looked upon in this way in the Christian world. He did what was required of Him, but what is required of the rest of us? Exactly the same as what was required of Him. The works that I do shall ye do also, is a statement that has come down to us, very graphically defining the reason for the presence of anyone on earth.

In the outworking of this particular creative cycle, initiated way back, a certain clarity of spiritual focus has been established and maintained within the range of our own awareness and, I trust, experience. In any case a body has been forming, not made with hands, not humanly organized, but seemingly inevitable nevertheless. We have all had some awareness of this, some experience of this, and here is at least the beginnings of a flesh body designed to allow a focus of spirit to find creative expression on earth, creative expression within the consciousness of mankind as a whole.

The messiah should not rightly be seen as though this was just one person; the Messiah is rightly Man, the Word made flesh. It seems that in the human tradition there is always the expectation of someone somehow putting in an appearance and then putting things to rights for poor, mistreated human beings. There really are no poor, mistreated human beings, so there is nothing to be put to rights. If, as has been the experience of most, there are troublesome states in which we and others find themselves, these are all self-produced. Human beings are responsible for their troubles, their tribulations. It’s easy to say that, because there are a lot of human beings to spread the blame around; but such a statement doesn’t really mean very much until it comes to focus in oneself. And we have the awareness, I am sure, of the correctness of the statement made by each one: “I am responsible.”

If the messianic experience is ever to come it can only come because there are those who make this statement and also make it stick. You don’t retire from the scene when intensified troubles put in an appearance. There has been prophetic indication that there should be considerable tribulation. This is rather naturally so, to be anticipated I am sure, because human beings behave the way they do. So the harvest comes. It comes generation after generation, but it is evidently coming in a rather particular way in these days, and everybody is busy blaming everybody else. There seem to be very few who would be inclined to make the statement, “I am responsible,” let alone make it stick.

We can look around and observe many things of a destructive nature in the world; we can observe the childish foolishness of human beings playing their games and trying to get things to work the way they want them to work. Of course these human wants are inclined to be in conflict with each other, so the destructive elements are intensified. The opportunity is present because there is at least a beginning in form, in the flesh, of a stable focus of spirit. This spirit has been identified in human consciousness by using the word “God” or Allah, or something else. We have indication that Jesus may have used the word “Father.” Whether this is an accurate translation or not might be called in question. At least it has traditionally given the impression that human beings are irresponsible children requiring a firm parent to somehow keep them in line. If that is what was required, the parent has not been too successful in this regard, so we might have a suspicion that that is not what is required.

Again this brings us back to the matter of assuming responsibility, so that we no longer anticipate someone else doing it for us. Is this true with respect to each individual? There have been abundant excuses found, justifications for failure, and usually this involves placing blame over there somewhere on someone else. Somebody is to blame, surely. Well if we want to indulge ourselves in blame, yes, I suppose you could say there is someone. Me! Just me, nobody else. Here is finally something coming to focus. Spirit needs to be brought to focus. Spirit is quite capable of handling all right responsibility. If as individuals we let that come to focus in our own expression of living, then we find ourselves quite capable of handling all that comes to us; but the handling is not for our own pleasure and satisfaction.

The focus of spirit, finding expression through human minds and hearts and bodies, accepts the facts as they are and is concerned to handle those facts in the right way. The right way would not include judging them. Judge not! We are not in the business of trying to make over the human nature state, as though it could be improved into something else. It is what it is, so we are not in that business. But things come to us to be handled by that focus of spirit which is present.

This drawing together of a body through which the spirit of the Messiah may be in expression requires a body of flesh, which includes the consciousness of that body, to be absolutely amenable to the expression of the spirit. Some have begun to realize that the vaunted idea of human free choice is a pipe dream. There is flesh required for the expression of spirit—yielded flesh. The only way flesh can yield is because heart and mind yield and are willing to provide a facility for the action of that focus of spiritthat quality, that character of being, of which one becomes increasingly aware as it is given expression. But where is it going to be given expression? In some supposedly perfect state where everything is just the way one would like it to be? Of course not. It finds expression in the present state the way things are, exactly as they are, or it doesn’t find expression. There is no place else for it to find expression.

All you have is today. All you have is now. We know that. OK, let’s be here now with respect to what is here now and let spirit handle the situation. If we are busy reacting to the situation, whining about it, wanting it to be some other way, people to behave differently so it would be all nice and cushy for us, we are living in a dream world. It’s advisable to wake up; it’s advisable to mature.

The One who is referred to as the Father simply indicates the nature or the quality of what it is that rightly fathers our expression in living, not some benign and benevolent parent somewhere who is going to smooth us down and make us comfortable with all the things we think we want—not that at all! Such an attitude and viewpoint is that of an irresponsible child. Well one needs to pass through childhood to get to maturity; but, for heaven’s sake, we need to come out of childhood somewhere along the way because there is a willingness to grow up and not expect, as children are inclined to do, other people to supply them with everything they think they want.

There is a peculiar absence of maturity, and people never grow beyond self-centered childhood. In a sense human beings don’t become mature; all they become is a means for the expression of maturity. There is only one reason for their existence in the first place: that is to allow for the expression of spirit; and they are not going to allow for the expression of the spirit as long as they are trying to satisfy themselves. Human beings have consistently excluded the experience of the spirit of the Messiah because they have conveniently misinterpreted the idea, for one thing, and said the Messiah is over there: the Messiah is Jesus, for instance. Well the spirit was in focus there, certainly, revealing what it is that is necessary for the whole body of mankind, not something different, the same spirit in focus in the flesh body of mankind.

How is it going to happen? It has to happen through the individual. How else can it happen? If individuals exclude that experience it doesn’t happen for anyone; and if everybody is just sitting there waiting for somebody else to do it, it never happens. But we all have the immediate opportunity—as long as life remains, the focus of spirit is there—to allow that to come forth into expression, to father thought, word and deed. It's there to be done. But if we are letting the circumstances and other people father what comes forth through us, that sounds more like the devil, doesn’t it? That’s not the right father, is it? You have awakened and know what to do—so there is no excuse, is there, for any of us, no justification whatsoever. And we can’t fool ourselves anymore. I trust that’s true. Is it?

We may acknowledge that there is a mess. There is no sense to try to blind ourselves to that. There is a mess in human consciousness, for sure. Someone needs to emerge out of that mess. The mess has, for a long time, been trying to make itself unmessy, an impossible task. There is another state or another experience available which doesn’t try to fix up what can’t be fixed up. Human beings have broken the egg—I think they scrambled it too—and now they don’t like scrambled eggs anymore and they want to get it back into the shell. It can’t be done, it’s a futile undertaking, and yet virtually all human energy is being channeled into this business of trying to get the world balanced somehow so that the anticipated Armageddon doesn’t come. It’ll come for sure; that world needs to pass away. There is a question, of course, as to how it passes away.

Let us accept the responsibility of standing where we belong—in the midst of a mess, if you want it that way—recognizing that there is something happening of a creative process by which what doesn’t belong passes away. This is a very usual experience for human beings; they themselves keep passing away in every generation, because they don’t belong. We don’t belong in the state in which we find ourselves. All right let’s allow that state to change; and it changes by reason of the fact that there is the acceptance of a new father of what finds expression in our living, a new quality of character.

In these moments of quietness the turmoil can subside, recede, and the clarity of spirit can once again be brought to focus in our own experience, because in that spirit which individually we differentiate, all things are made new, not by trying to mend the old but because this new spirit is present, we have experience of it—the body forms. Amazing! And, as you well know, it didn’t form on the basis of people choosing each other; it formed on the basis of all concerned accepting the same spirit. And then, regardless of human notions about whom one likes or doesn’t like, or thinks one wishes to be close to or far from, the process works, and we find ourselves together.

As has also been noted, we sometimes thought we didn’t like the process, we didn’t like the people who were apparently being brought so close to us. We wanted to change them, and there are those who still are in this business of trying to change other people, rather than awakening to what it is of spirit that is present, because only from that standpoint is there a blending and a fusion possible, and only from that standpoint does a person in mind and heart become aware that he is with friends. Amazing! He didn’t choose them but there they are. You don’t have to work at it. In fact if you are working at it you are not a friend, for one thing, and therefore you will not have the experience of being a friend. The only way you can experience friendship is by being a friend. “Love one another.”

We find ourselves associated in one body, to the extent that the same spirit is emerging with increased freedom. There begins to be an awareness of what could well be called the Word being made flesh, being made flesh in spite of human nature and everything else that human beings have produced—a new state, that is not there because of the circumstances round about. The circumstances will sort themselves out as that focus of spirit is maintained. If we become flabby and subject to the circumstances, then we are in trouble. If we find ourselves in trouble, what needs to be done? Come back to the focus of spirit, because there is strengththe creative power by which all things are made new. Probably there is a lot that is present in circumstances round about that needs to disintegrate. We are inclined to try to cling onto it. “Oh, what’s going to happen if that falls apart?” Well let’s find out. If something needs to fall apart, let it fall apart! That’s taking a chance, isn’t it? It’s taking even more of a chance if we don’t let it fall apart.

So we share as individuals the same responsibility. Some people have tried to make me into some sort of a leader, a spiritual leader presumablyfor the most part because the individual who made that attempt didn’t want to take responsibility himself, or herself. It’s very convenient to have some scapegoat to hang things on, but it’s all one’s own responsibility. I have feelings and hereditary elements in my makeup just the same as everybody else, and, incidentally, so had Jesus. His meaning is based in the fact that those things did not control Him, not that they weren’t there. Human beings have found a wonderful excuse here of course. “He was something special; He didn’t have all the things that we have.” Oh yes, He did. Let’s not try to escape responsibility.

I have taken responsiblity and it worked out in a certain way. But don’t let the fact that I took responsibility and it worked out in this way be an excuse for you not to take your responsibility, which will work out in what way? Well you have to take it to find out. But it is exactly the same thing. It’s exactly the same as it was for Jesusexactly. Certainly the focus of spirit that was present in Him was unique to Him, but that focus of spirit that is the experience of each of us, which is in fact what we truly are, is unique. It is specific for each individual, not a sort of blended thing. We are responsible for differentiating it so it comes out in its unique, specific ways, each person assuming the responsibility for himself; it doesn’t matter what anybody else does; he has that responsibility. If he assumes that correctly he will find that it blends with those who are assuming it correctly also.

And the one body puts in an appearance, the body of the Messiah, mankind, that all things may be brought again into the beauty and the perfection of the universal whole instead of being held out to one side by self-centered human beings who suffer the consequences and then complain about it. Let’s let it all come back where it belongs, we say to the glory of Godthe glory of the One whose spirit differentiated composes our individual true identities.

The spirit is referred to as the holy spirit; it is whole. And if there are any portions of what we are, humanly speaking, that may be held out, then obviously the holy spirit has no means of adequate expression. The only hope, if you want to look at it that way, for mankind is by reason of that wholeness of spirit which is a reality because it is differentiated in balance through many.

Your Questions Answered #2

Your  Questions  Answered  #2

Uranda  1938

Uranda takes this method of answering certain of your important questions which are of vital import

to all the Earnest Ones who have chosen to Walk the Flaming Way

in Response to the Expression of Reality in the out-working Cosmic Plan.

Question — My niece was to have been married, and her friend died suddenly. She takes it very hard, and lies awake at night waiting for him to return. To my idea, Souls do not return, as when one dies the Soul of that person goes into a new-born babe. Am I wrong in this?

Uranda’s Answer — You are wrong in the idea that the Soul goes into a new-born babe upon leaving the body at death. All the ideas that are supposed to tell how long the God-Being waits between incarnations are absolutely false. The God-Self again incarnates when and as He can be most helpful in the out-working of the Cosmic Plan, and so render the greatest possible Service.

The God-Self is not subject to set periods of time, no matter what any may have taught on this subject. You are right in feeling that the Soul, or God-Self does not return to communicate with those who remain on earth—and all of the ideas of communion with “departed Spirits”, “Souls”, “Spirit Brothers”, and so-called “discarnate Masters”, are false. That which is seen, and thought to be the departed loved one, may be a thought-form. Sometimes, shortly after the passing of a loved one, a person contacts the thought-form which that person had created during life, and such an experience can be real, even to the extent of speaking and feeling. However, that thought-form soon dissolves and is no more. Then, under certain conditions, a thought-form of that person can be, so-to-speak, resurrected from the aura of the one remaining. This is what the genuine Spiritualists (meaning those who are not consciously promoting a fraud) do, and in some cases, as in so-called “materializations”, the thought-form is filled out with substance drawn from the “medium” and from the “circle”. But such a manifestation is never the person it is supposed to be. Information given under any such conditions is drawn from the person's own aura, even though he may never have consciously known such information before. The so-called “great mediums” are really “mind readers” who pick up vibrations from the radiations of the individuals present, and personalize those vibrations as much as the response of the person will permit. All such activity is utterly useless, and should be avoided. Let the Earnest One ignore all such things, and Respond in Love to his own Lord within, and in due season, if he wavers not, he will abide in Peace and in Understanding.

I would, also, point out that the incarnating God-Being is always present at the time of conception, and remains focalized in the forming body throughout the pre-natal period.

Question — If we are soul mates here and one dies, then will we know each other, or be permitted to see each other?

Uranda’s Answer — Much has been written and taught concerning so-called soul mates. Truly, “Fools rush in where Angels fear to tread.” If people would forget all they ever heard about soul mates they would be better off. There is a Cosmic Mate for each one, and in due season each will function with that Cosmic Mate. God-Beings who are Cosmic Mates always know each other and function with each other, whether incarnate or not. But this is the important point: No one can tell another whether or not his or her mate is or is not a soul mate, and anyone who attempts to tell of such things is guilty of falsehood. In rare instances human beings may become aware of such a Harmonization, but not more than one out of every hundred thousand of such supposed relationships has any foundation in fact. Let every married couple consider themselves to be true Mates in Oneness, and let them let all things work out in due season. Let no one be carried away with the idea that some person other than his or her present mate is a “soul mate,” for much sorrow and suffering has been born of such imaginings. Those who Respond in Truth will understand the Mystery of Cosmic Mates in due season.

Questions There is a question that has been in my mind for some time that I am going to ask you to make clear for me. I do not think it is a thing I have to know—perhaps it is meaningless speculation on my part—but I would like to know, and I shall never feel free of the question until I am satisfied I have the answer. It has to do with your message on The Astral Realm. If I can make my question clear, it is this: I understand that when the body dies it disintegrates and is “as if it had never been”. I also thoroughly believe that the Spirit that ascends is, and always was, perfect. But if a Spirit incarnates many times, is there no relation at all between incarnations? I mean, suppose in this life I learn many things (as I have) but do not fully ascend and my body dies. In my next incarnation is what I have learned of no help to me at all? Is there no, shall I say, mental life that persists to become a part of my next body so that I shall go on from where I left off this time? Or do I, as Spirit, simply take on an absolutely new mind as well as body with no connection at all with my former life; not having any benefit from former lives to help this particular body ascend. I have always felt that there was some connection, and that what I learned in one life carried over into the next. But, of course, I know the Spirit is perfect, birthless and deathless, eternally perfect. It cannot need to learn. Is there, then, a mental life that persists and gains experience, and forms part of every incarnation?

Uranda’s Answer — Truly it is a joy to behold the way in which my paper The Astral Realm, has given many a new opportunity to Relax into a new Vision and Realization. Rejoice. This question is so well put, and voices what so many are asking, that I would present a simple and complete answer for all who are willing to be received into the New Vision.

You are right in realizing that this point is not absolutely essential to full Release. The essential points I have given many times in many ways, and they all hinge around the One Great Truth: Love your Lord with your whole being, and let your Lord's Perfect Love pour out through you in blessing to your Brother Man in Rejoicing.

First I would ask a question. Would it not be logical to suppose that if a memory of what one “learned” in a past life were essential to the perfect expression of this life, the Creator would surely have caused such memory to be natural to all people. You will have to admit that that would be logical. We recognize that the Lord provides all that is essential to the greatest possible Release of Reality in each one, no matter who or where. We do not find such “memory” of past lives to be a natural thing to man. There must be a very good reason why human beings come into this life with a blank mind, and without any memory of anything past. There are a few rare instances which tend to indicate the possibility of such “memory.”

Question — Is the Release, or Ascension, of the Earnest One dependent upon “learning,” either past or present?

Uranda’s Answer — Obviously, if one should answer in the affirmative he would at once be confronted with the task of making “intellectual giants” of all the people of the world, and none can doubt that under the present process of life that would need “millions of years.” However, if one really recognizes that the Lord within already know all, the feeling of a need for much learning at once begins to vanish away; and in its place comes a sweet peace, out of which the Garden of Reality begins to grow—not by much learning, but by much loving is release experienced.

Question A question has been gradually taking form in my mind, something like this: “If that body which remains at the separation called death is scattered back into the soil ... and so into other human bodies”—yet, “all the body-substance which Ascends is never more subject to physical life and death,” what does become of that substance? That is, one who has Responded wholly to his Lord appears to have left his physical substance at death even as one who has by lack of Response repelled himself from his Lord, even unto extinction. Is it not so?

Uranda’s Answer — No, dear Sister, it is not so. That human being who has “Responded wholly to his Lord” does not leave any physical substance behind in so-called death, for such an one Ascends as did Enoch and Elijah. Anything that is left did not respond, no matter how good that person was. That which Ascends must do so during life with a final separation of the Ascending Atoms from those being left behind taking place at death of the body. That which Ascends, whether during life or at the time of passing, is received into the Inner Plane Reality which cannot be described in human language. The Bible speaks of such Ascended Substance as “stars in the crown”, or, as “a pillar in the house of God,” and in many other ways. It is enough that that which Ascends has been received into the Positive Phase of Heaven beyond all human limitation.

It may be helpfully interesting to know that the average good sincere, earnest person who truly lives the best he knows, and honestly Loves God and his Brother Man, allows, during a lifetime of “three score and ten years,” the Ascension of about as much physical substance as would be required to make three complete human bodies. This is only a broad generalization in order to give something of an illustration to those who need it. It must be recognized that there is a variation in every life, and none can say how much of any person's body has Ascended unless it all Ascends at the close of earth life—but even then there has been much that has been cast out of that person’s body as refuse during his life time. The important thing is for each one to live the Life of Love Response to the Lord and let the Father within take care of that which Ascends. That which does not Ascend will return to the soil of the earth, whether cast out day-by-day as refuse, or whether left behind at the separation of Atoms at the death of the physical body. The Lord of the Harvest will garner the wheat (Ascending Atoms) of the Harvest into His “barns,” or the Place of His Presence and Function. Our Great Master gave many illustrations in this regard which apply both to the world as a whole, and to the body-world of each and every human being.

Question — What becomes of the God-Being and also the human at death of a person who denies God and immortality?

Uranda’s Answer — The same thing that happens to any other unresponsive person. The one who so denies is not Responding to his Lord, and so he goes into the soil of the earth as refuse, and the God-Being goes into the Inner Planes just the same as any other God-Being. The sins of the human being never attach to the God-Being.

Question — Is it possible for this body to become so perfect as to Ascend with the God-Being, and have no atom of it return to the earth, and how long could such an one stay on this planet?

Uranda’s Answer — The body is in a constant state of flux, taking on and casting off atoms each day, and the Responding One may become so perfect in Love Response to his Lord that he is caused to Ascend, but up to the time of actual Ascension there would be a degree of casting off—and such a person could stay in manifest life as long as his Service in the earth might be needed, providing he remained in perfect Polarity of Being.

Question — In the dividing of the sheep from the goats, if some of our Loved Ones here on earth should not Respond, and should be removed from the earth, will their God Beings, who always function in Perfection, and who Ascend when separated from the body at death, have a part in the Spiritualization of the earth from the Inner Planes? For instance, if one who has had his greatest function in creating wars, unrest, turmoil, etc., in the earth, and is removed from the earth by death, does his God Being have a part in the establishment of the Christ Kingdom from the Inner Planes?

Uranda's Answer — The simple and complete answer is, Yes. To fully understand this answer requires a Realization of the fact that the God Being, or Immortal Self which leaves the body at death, was not responsible for the wrong acts of the human being, and is not in any way limited by such wrong acts—and so it is that all that leaves the body at death, and Ascends, is just as perfect as the God Being that Ascends from the body of a good person, and so has a part in the Cosmic Plan just as surely as if the wayward human body had never been born—and, also, you may be sure that there was a certain amount of Ascension from that body during the life span of the human being, so that life was not in vain. The God Being never sins, and is not in any way subject to evil; and so it is that the God Selves of your Loved Ones are even now working from the Inner Planes just as surely as any other, and in due season you will meet them as they are in Reality. Rejoice. This is true of all.

Question — If we are immortal now, what is the procedure so as not to have to go through death?

Uranda's Answer — Human beings are mortal, and any teacher that tries to delude human beings into thinking that they are really immortal now, is either ignorant or a willful deceiver. The God Self in each and every human being is Immortal, and no God Being ever dies; even though the human form becomes subject to death. The only way whereby the human form can Ascend, and so not be subject to death, is to Love his Lord within in a true and steadfast Response which causes him to Ascend during the life span of the human form—for that which dies does not Ascend. A fear of death will prevent such a Response. In other words, you are not to try to avoid death—you are to respond in Love to your Lord so that he may lift you up into Himself, and to the degree that you are absorbed into him, you will be a partaker with Him in His natural Immortality. Such Ascension takes place to a degree with every Earnest One, even though the remaining body is subject to death. A complete Ascension is not to be anticipated until after the world itself has undergone the resurrection into the New Age state.

Question — If we cannot look back on our past incarnations, how do you know that you functioned in Lemuria as Uranda?

Uranda's Answer — I have not, in any of my writings, indicated that it is impossible for one to know of one's past incarnations. However, I have pointed out that the vast majority of those who think that they are getting such information are being deluded. Those who try to find out about their past incarnations are always subject to delusions if they are at all successful in their attempts. Likewise, those who attempt to tell others of past incarnations through touching vibrations, and all the usual methods, are false; whether they realize it or not. When the outer-self has been lifted up into Oneness with the Inner Self, the Eternal Knowledge of the Inner Self is released out through the responsive One to the degree that such knowledge is truly needed—and such knowledge is never available to satisfy curiosity. The Inner Self, or Lord, has complete awareness of His own Eternal History, including all of His incarnations—and the Lord never goes to sleep nor any of the other supposed ways in which He is supposed to forget—therefore, to the degree that the outer-self is One With his Lord, the knowledge of the Lord is released through the outer consciousness to the degree of the need.

Insofar as these facts relate to me, I have nothing to say but this: If my Words reveal to you the Truth that is already within yourself, and you feel the Fire of the Christ Love drawing you into that Perfect State to which you were ordained, then may you well have confidence in them. If any cannot believe me for my work's sake, or for the sake of Him Who sent me, then surely there is nothing in me to cause him to believe in me.

Question — I would like to ask you why you don't use the Name Jesus Christ in conjunction with the Names, the Lord of the Sacred Seven, and the LORD of Lords and KING of Kings. It seems to me that your words would have more weight if you said, ‘Jesus Christ, Lord of the Sacred Seven.’ To me He means everything. To me Jesus Christ is very real. I love your lessons, but can't understand why the Name Jesus Christ is omitted. Please explain to me your reason for omitting His Name.

Uranda's Answer — To this I would reply: Blessed Sister, I can well understand how you feel in the matter—for our Great Master does not mean any more to you that He does to me. For all who wish to speak of Him as Jesus Christ, it is perfectly alright, and when you become more acquainted with my writings you will find that I have repeatedly mentioned the fact that the world knew the Lord of the Sacred Seven as Jesus. However, that was the Name by which He manifested in the earth for only thirty-three years, while I have known Him since the beginning of Creation by His Holy Name, LORD of the Sacred Seven. It is a matter of choice. The world uses the Name Jesus Christ without any true understanding of what it means—and so many take that name in vain; using it profanely, even as the world crucified Him. The world does not know Him by the Name, LORD of the Sacred Seven, and that Holy Name is not bandied on the lips of those who curse God and man. To me it means far more than the One the world saw—and those who are beginning to catch the Vision of Reality have, also, come to have a Holy Joy in the Name, LORD of the Sacred Seven, or LORD of Lords and KING of Kings—a Title by which I often speak of Him. Therefore, you see, I do not omit His Name, but, rather, am I helping many to become aware, not only of His Name, but of Him in His Reality. I love the Name by which He was known in the earth, and should you find that Name more pleasing to you, I Rejoice—and trust that the Names by which I speak and write of Him will now mean more to you.

Question — Why did Jesus utter these words on the cross, My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me? Did God really forsake Him at that time? Can God forsake any of us?

Uranda's Answer  To these questions I would answer: You will note that St. John, who was the only disciple who was present at the time Jesus became unconscious on the cross, does not make any mention of such as utterance; but John does say that Jesus said, “It is finished.” Jesus uttered His last words on the cross in Lemurian, or the Motherland tongue, while those present, besides John, understood only the Aramaic and Hebrew. Matthew gives the original as “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani” and it is only natural that those who did not understand Lemurian, thought He was quoting the first verse of the 22nd Psalm. A nearly exact translation of Jesus’ Words, translating from the Lemurian, would be, “Relaxing into God, the darkness of the outer world covers the face of my Life.” These words John summed up as, “It is finished,” which is quite correct. It is evident that if Matthew had been certain of the meaning of Jesus’ last Words on the cross, he would not have felt it was necessary to give the original, as well as his own translation. Jesus did not say that God had forsaken Him, and, in Truth, God never forsakes anyone. Those who turn from God are the ones who forsake God.
