Jupiter and Saturn

I'm going to read just a little bit from something written by Velikovsky on Saturn and the Flood.
“While the actual beginning of the drama (meaning all of these catastrophes) is shrouded in the mists of grey antiquity, there is a point at which a clearer picture emerges. This is the time when the two giant planets, Saturn and Jupiter, approached each other closely.” Very little is known of this—how long they were in close proximity. But he points out that, “Cosmological thought of ancient peoples conceived of the history of the earth as divided into periods of time, each ruled by a different planet. Of these, the epoch of Saturn, or Kronos, another name for it, was remembered as a time of bliss, and it was made to precede the period during which Jupiter was the dominant deity.”
So you had Jupiter and Saturn before the Flood, and they were doing something at the time of Lemuria too, but here was a very close proximity and something happened where there was a disturbance and an imbalance created in Saturn because of something being thrown off from Jupiter; the time element is not known here. We only know that these things happened at some point; we don't want to try to pin it down, but there was a disturbance in which both Jupiter and Saturn participated—this we know. “Various peoples witnessed the events and described them as a celestial human drama in different forms. The Greeks have Jupiter, the son of Saturn, Kronos, dethrone his father and banish him and take his place to become the supreme deity.” So, in ancient mythology Jupiter did away with his father, Saturn, dethroned him, whatever—emasculated him, in one legend—and took over. And the beginning of the history of the Old Testament has Jupiter in that position—the great king Baal, he'll be called.
“A nova is thought to result from an instability in a star, generated by a sudden influx of matter usually derived from its companion. If what today we call Jupiter and Saturn are the products of such a sequence of events, their appearance and respective masses must formerly have been quite different.” They were much larger. “At some point during a close approach to Jupiter, Saturn became unstable and as a result of the influx of extraneous material, it exploded, flaring as a nova which, after subsiding, left a remnant that the ancients still recognized as Saturn even though it was but a fraction of the size of the celestial body of earlier days.” It dominated the heavens before this happening, and some of the legends say that Jupiter bound his father with rings, and you have the rings around Saturn. Jupiter was stripped of its outer envelope, so here you have a great change as well.
“My conclusion that, as a result of its interplay with Jupiter, Saturn became a nova, I found confirmed in many ancient sources in which Saturn is regularly associated with brilliant light. But I was led to this idea first of all by a certain clue contained in the Biblical account of the Deluge. The story, as found in Genesis, starts: ‘And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.’ After seven days of what?” It's a good question. “Some words seem to be missing. It is clear, however, that Isaiah refers to the same seven days in his description of the age to come when ‘the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days.’ This memory of the seven days of light preceding the Deluge is a most important indication of the physical cause of the catastrophe. The intense light filling the sky points to a source in a nova within the solar system. If, as all evidence indicates, the nova was in fact Saturn, we may obtain an estimate of the earth's distance from the source of the illumination in the following way: the light from Saturn's explosion probably reached the earth in a matter of minutes, practically simultaneously with the beginning of its nova phase, but the waters followed seven days later. Though ejected in the same catastrophic destruction, the gases or filaments took a week to reach the earth”—Velikovsky estimates how close the earth was to Saturn because of all this.
“With the end of the seven days of light, the earth became enveloped in waters of cosmic origin, whether coming directly from Saturn—and Saturn is known to contain water—or formed from clouds of hydrogen gas ejected by the nova, which combined by means of powerful electrical discharges with the earth's own free oxygen. There are definite indications of a drastic drop in the atmospheric oxygen at the time of the Deluge.” So great changes occurred, which have continued. “The Midrashim and other ancient sources describe the waters of the flood as being warm; in addition, rich in chlorine.” That’s interesting, isn't it? There was great fear in ancient peoples because of what had occurred, really quite recently in their times, and they dreaded the gods—that this could happen again unless they appeased the gods with mostly human sacrifice; animal sacrifice later. But here you have the origin of human sacrifice.
What I'm emphasizing here is the great difference, changes that have happened on the face of this planet; whereas the old idea was that this is the way it was created—it's always been this way. Man has brought about many changes on the face of the earth. But the Lord has always been able to do something about it, or with it, no matter what man has done. And we see the power of the Lord's Creation in bringing all this about and the absolute insistence in nature, as we call it—nature—of bringing forth beauty. And as Martin's beautiful service says, “For God did make the earth a womb, where beauty might be born.” Nothing else can be born out of the womb of God—nature won't produce anything but that; it will make it right if it possibly can. It's only man who persists and wastes all his time and energy and dies in the process, to make it ugly. But with God, given a chance, it's very simple. The Word And Its Influence

World Service—one aspect of this has come particularly to my attention over the past few years, and that is the evidence in the world body as a whole that they are hearing the Word. They haven’t heard us out there speaking it particularly but they are certainly getting a message. Of course everything that’s happening on the face of the earth, whether we like it or not, whether it’s good or bad or anything else, is a result of the World Service in which we participate—the Word and its influence.
But I am thinking of it specifically with regard to some books that have come out. What is revealed is a growing recognition that what has been included in the Bible has been distorted—not an innocent accident but deliberately. I am thinking of the gathering together and arranging of the Bible as we know it—the Gospels—that much has been put in there. For all of our Story of Man classes we have known that. We have said the virgin birth is an inclusion of a paganistic concept, and that Jesus did not die on the cross, and so on—but it’s really getting through in many places. And what I find interesting is that it doesn’t matter a hoot how it was put together, the Word came through. The Word is in the Bible. It is in the Gospels.
It is good that this recognition come, the conviction that the Master did not die. And it’s interesting because there are different manipulations as to why He didn’t, what the circumstance was—which doesn’t matter, again—but the conviction is there and that’s great. And of course what we see a lot of these days is, or I have, is Biblical scholars—the ecclesiastia of the church—doubting many things. A very recent one is a man who has been associated with the church for many many years, who realizes the things that have been included such as the virgin birth, and other things, put Jesus in a class by Himself, and contradict His words that “you can do it, and greater works than these.” Why are they greater? Because more people are doing it. So these are some of the things which, to me, are strong indications of our World Service having effect.
In a different vein, another Book has come to my attention. It is one of the oldest on the face of the earth, but it has been given form recently and has come to my attention. It is called, The Book of Enoch the Prophet, and that goes back pretty far. You know where Enoch came in the Bible? Before the flood. And he is spoken of as one who “walked with God.” He was with God, and he was not, because God took him—not up into the sky somewhere. That’s an interesting fact in this book, because he was around. So this prophecy—I would bring it to focus because it is exactly the same as anything we hear from this place today. The truth is true and it doesn’t change. But it’s interesting to see something that was said that long ago—before the flood. He was the great-grandfather of Noah. So I am going to read a little bit about this:
“In the year 1773, after a period of almost total obscurity lasting 1500 years, a Scottish explorer, James Bruce, discovered in what is now Ethiopia, The Book of Enoch.” Many of these things were unearthed in the land around Egypt. He writes: “Amongst the articles I consigned to the library at Paris was a very beautiful and magnificent copy of the prophecies of Enoch. Another is amongst the books of scripture that I brought home, standing immediately before The Book of Job, which is its proper place in the Abyssinian canon.” I find that interesting. It had its place just before Job. And Job, which is included in the Bible, is in this same category. This is acknowledged as the most ancient document—without date. They don’t know when it was written. And here again you have something that occurred before the story of man as we know it, the history of man, which we take from, well in the Bible, Abraham.
And he says it rested there forgotten until 1821 when Richard Lawrence issued his first translation—and that is the book I am talking about. Interesting that in the Epistle of Jude, and one of the Epistles of Peter, you find the Book of Enoch quoted, perhaps emphasizing the authenticity of this document. Jude has always seemed to be a very strange book in there. It didn’t seem to fit. Well that is really quoting from Enoch. This ancient book now rediscovered was used by different ones up until 400 A.D. And 400 A.D. is when the Bible, as used by particularly the Catholic Church—but that’s Christianity as far as the Bible goes—was put together. And that is when these paganistic aspects got in there and it’s when certain things were left out including the Book of Enoch. It was in the Bible as late as 200 A.D. and then removed. It actually contains much from which so-called mystic passages come, such as in Revelation. “When primitive Christianity had freely appropriated the visions of Enoch as the materials of constructive dogmas, this remarkable book gradually sank into oblivion, disappeared out of western Christendom, and was eventually forgotten by a church which unconsciously perpetuated its teaching as the miraculous revelations of Christianity.” He says that this translation places the book within the reach of all English readers. “Catholics may disregard its contents as it is not found in the sacred canon of their infallible church, but Protestants who adhere to the principles of the reformation, etc, must inevitably enrol among the prophets.”
“There I beheld the ancient of days whose head was like white wool,” and we see this very clearly in other passages in the Bible—Daniel. “And with him another the ancient of days, another whose countenance resembled that of man.” Here we have Jehovah. “His countenance was full of grace like that of one of the holy angels. Then I enquired of one of the angels who went with me and who showed me every secret thing concerning this Son of Man, who he was, whence he was, and why he accompanied the ancient of days. And he said: This is the Son of Man to whom righteousness belongs, all before the Lord of Spirits.” Here we have a constant reference in this ancient book to the Lord of Spirits, an interesting term. This is the reference to the Highest Point. “This Son of Man whom thou beholdest shall raise up kings and the mighty from their couches, shall loosen the bridles of the powerful... In that hour,” speaking of the hour when all of this would be consummated, “was this Son of Man invoked before the Lord of Spirits, and His name in the presence of the ancient of days. Before the sun and the signs were created, before the stars of heaven were formed, His name was invoked in the presence of the Lord of Spirits.” It gives me a feeling of the One who focalizes the body of mankind; we have known His name to be Jesus—Jehovah. Now with regard to the contents of this book there is the term, “watchers,” which is used synonymously with “fallen angels.” The following is quoted from the Mesopotamian flood story, the old Babylonian myth. There are over forty or fifty stories of the flood throughout the world. The ancient cultures of practically all people include a version of the flood with a little different name for Noah. It’s the same story, but some of them have more detail, which is quite interesting. For instance this one says the gods’ motive for the flood, after being asked why, is: “A cosmic imbalance between the human world and the divine world. The human world is overpopulated with humans.” This was written before the flood: “And the gods cannot sleep because of the noise.” Hence the flood which destroyed much of the population.
In this myth also it is set forth also that there had not been death before the sons of God mated with daughters of men. And this cosmic imbalance of overpopulation had to be corrected. Thus death became the result of overpopulation. The story of Adam and Eve tells the same story essentially, when human beings wished to be as gods. Now I suppose if you look at the story in Genesis 6 where the sons of God wanted the daughters of men, that could be the other way too. Couldn’t it? Humans wished to be as gods; but it’s the same thing. The fall simply was that this resulting being would have control which should be in the hands of the Lord. Not all beings fell—a certain number of them; that’s why they are called fallen angels—but not all participated in this. It probably would have been the end of everything if that had happened. The result of this—the offspring—was giants, not just larger beings, but distortions which covered the face of the earth.
There is another little quote from another story of the flood which simply emphasizes the reason for the destruction: “the people multiplied.” The only brief reference in the Bible to overpopulation is that they multiplied. Biblical scholars are embarrassed by that story? They don’t like it. They really don’t like that insertion. Along the way in the history of the writing of the Bible they have tried to eliminate it, so they changed it a little bit, this story of the sons of God uniting with the daughters of men. This was not pleasing to man’s mind. And the giants—one aspect of the giants, along the way, was simply dinosaurs—but here again an aspect of giants, of distortion. And this other little record from another story of the flood: “The people multiplied. The land was bellowing like a bull. At their uproar the God became angry; He heard their noise. He addressed the great Gods: The noise of mankind had become oppressive to me; because of their uproar I am deprived of sleep.”
I will read a few passages from The Book of Enoch and then we will take a look at a few of the highlights in the Bible, which gives a continuous story. You may find excerpts here and there of the truth written in other places or other books, but it isn’t a continuous thing. I have always found it stopped, but here we have something [the Bible] that follows all the way through—a continuous thing. Consistency. We heard about of the appearance on earth of, what shall we say, unfallen Angels in the fallen state. This is just a bit from this book: “The word of the blessing of Enoch, how he blessed the elect and the righteous who were to exist in the time of trouble, rejecting all the wicked and ungodly.” I emphasize that these words could be said of today. It is very timely.
“Enoch, a righteous man who was with God, answered and spoke while his eyes were open and while he saw a holy vision in the heavens. This the angels showed me. From them I heard all things and understood what I saw: that which will not take place in this generation, but in a generation which is to succeed at a distant period on account of the elect. Upon their account I spoke and conversed with Him who will go forth from His habitation, the holy and mighty One, the God of the world, who will hereafter tread upon Mount Sinai, appear with His hosts, and be manifested in the strength of His power from heaven. And all shall be afraid, and the watchers be terrified. The earth shall be emerged and all things which are in it perish while judgment shall come upon all, even upon all the righteous. But to them shall He give peace. He shall preserve the elect and toward them exercise clemency. Then shall all belong to God, be happy and blessed. And the splendor of the godhead shall illuminate them.
“Then the most high, the great and holy One spoke and sent an angel to the son of Lamech." Who is he? Noah! “Saying, say to him in my name: conceal thyself”—function secretly—“then explained to him the consummation which is about to take place. For all the earth shall perish. The waters of a deluge shall come over the whole earth and all things which are in it shall be destroyed. And now teach him how he may escape and how his seed may remain in all the earth.”
Now we have a little section in here by Noah. I think it would be nice to hear something of what Noah said. “In those days Noah saw that the earth became inclined”—the axis was tilted—“and that destruction approached. Then he lifted up his feet and went to the ends of the earth, to the dwelling of his great-grandfather Enoch.” When he needed some help he found Enoch. “And Noah cried with a bitter voice: Hear me, hear me, hear me”—three times—“and he said, Tell me what is transacting upon the earth, for the earth labours and is violently shaken. After this there was a great perturbation on earth and a voice was heard from heaven. I fell down on my face when my great-grandfather Enoch came and stood by me. He said, Why hast thou cried out to me? A commandment has gone forth from the Lord against those who dwell on the earth that they may be destroyed. For they know everything, every oppressive and secret power of the devils.”
And that’s an interesting observation because other ideas or concepts have come through as to what occurred before the destruction called the flood. The distortions, on the physical level for instance, of the power that was still in man as he was then. Because of this combination—divine and human—he is often spoken of as a semi-divine being. He wasn’t created to be semi-divine. He was Divine. And this fall is not just some little airy-fairy thing that took place. And you say, “How could it happen?!” It was a mixture with a level beneath himself, and it produced so-called giants—monstrosities! And after the flood this power was removed from him in that sense, but he still produced monstrosities all over the face of the earth. But whatever he can produce on the physical level, he can produce monstrosities, no matter how limited he is—we see that today. It is just a different kind of a giant. But there is a giant! However, there was a destruction of the actual union between man and animal levels. So that was destroyed. And we need to keep in mind that overpopulation was the reason then, just as it is today, and this was a result of that mingling of the so-called sons of God with the daughters of man in a level where he did not belong.
I mentioned Job as being in the same category as The Book of Enoch. So we could take just a brief look at Job here—a record again. Of course Job starts out with an account of creation and then the fall, which includes in that record the involvement of other planets—which was absolutely true. It was not just something which happened in the earth itself. Here was the involvement of the family to which this earth belongs. How could everything else be unaffected? So in the restoration, or turning back of the heart of man, we will find much, surely, that is restored in the whole body. I like the words in another record of the flood, of the cosmic imbalance caused, the relation between cosmic and human balance drastically disturbed—and so we only need to look at our solar system to see planets that have been greatly harmed, destruction there, and so on. World Turmoils Are Not Signs Of Failure By God

At the present time the world is passing through a period of turmoil. We see various evidences of the choices that human beings are making. We know that the Divine must be considered. We know that in this world outworking it is only as we are coordinated in the expression of the Divine that we can have a part in the ultimate outworking. We know that the workers of iniquity shall be scattered, regardless of race, color, or people, or anything else. It does not take very much spiritual insight to see the handwriting on the wall. We have turmoil and strife in our country here. The powers of this world think that they are gaining the victory over those who regard conditions in the world in a way that would be of the greatest benefit to the greatest number. Those who have thought to do the right thing have been overbalanced. It looks like a tremendous victory for the workers of iniquity, for those whose only purpose is to satisfy their own lust and greed for increased power and increased wealth. Since this is true, it is especially important that emissaries should remember this text: “When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever: But thou, Lord, art most high for evermore. For, lo, thine enemies, O Lord, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.” If we do not have the absolute conviction and certainty within ourselves that that text is true, we could well be discouraged; but we know that the power of God is greater than the powers of evil.
As we look back over the progress of world history and see how history was made, we see how everything has been shaped toward producing the very conditions that exist today. Some, undertaking to analyze these things and seeing how the forces of evil have tended to build up such a state of affairs, feel that the situation is virtually hopeless. Now God did not cause the forces of evil to make the choices that they did, to produce the situations that have been produced, but the thing that the forces of evil fail to recognize is that the fulfilment of all of these things according to human plans is not contrary to the fulfilment of things according to God's Plan. Evil is always playing into the hands of God. Evil, in its designs and at the cost of so many human lives and much human suffering, is building something that it conceives to put the workers of iniquity in absolute control over the world and over all the things that are in it. They have come well nigh doing just that, and since they chose the way of evil, God opened the way and gave them opportunities to accomplish just what they have accomplished. If they had refused to make the wrong choices then of course God's Will could have been accomplished and brought into manifestation without so much human suffering. But God knew man and He understood man's tendencies.
It was because God knew man and his evil tendencies that the prophetic outlines that we find here in the Bible were possible. An understanding of vibrations in relationship to cycles was of course involved, so that it is primarily a mathematical proposition in outworking as to when certain lines of vibration will converge. Because God understood those cycles and vibrations and recognized how, or at what points, those vibrations would converge, and because God understood man, He knew what reactions man would make manifest as He Himself worked out the vibrations of the world according to His own Plan. In other words God did not change His Plan because man failed. In the sense of the immediate necessities in granting man every opportunity, it might be said that God did make certain adjustments in His Plan to meet the situation, but from the standpoint of the long-range cosmic cycles they were left absolutely untouched.
It was ordained clear back in the beginning of things that at this particular point in the outworking of cosmic cycles the earth, in its function in relationship to the solar system, would move into vibrations of a peculiar nature and they would be intensified in a higher expression of the spiral. That cosmic outworking in the cycles has moved forward just as it would have if man had not fallen. Insofar as the basic Plan is concerned God did not change it one iota, and He will not do so. God gave man every possible opportunity to return along the way, because God knew that as these cycles progressed conditions would develop which would force the issue with man. God gave man an opportunity to avoid the stress of suffering and turmoil that would be involved in such conditions as we now have, but man refused.
We remember that at one time Jesus was talking about the evildoers, those who refuse to respond, and He called them an evil generation and pointed out that they asked for signs. They asked for signs in a demanding way, saying, “If you will give us signs, then perhaps we can believe.” And what did He say? He said, “But no sign shall be given unto them save the sign of the prophet Jonas.” We do not have time to analyze all the implications of His statement and attitude, but it should be clear to you in basic principle. That which He was mentioning in relationship to the sign of the prophet Jonah was actually much more than human beings think of it as being.
At the time Jonah lived the world was in the first of the Grand Solar cycles. We remember that those cycles are Water, Air, Earth and Fire, so the first Grand Cycle that was in existence at the time was Water. But the closing of the cycle, which extended for a little over two thousand years, and which had the most direct vibrational contact with man, was Fire. Also the twelfth, which would be the completion of the succession of Water, Air, Earth and Fire in the 25,000-year periods, would naturally be of a Fire vibration. In other words at that point the trinity of cycles was Water in its Grand 310,400-year period, Fire in its 25,800-year period, and Fire in its 2,150-year period. This means that the Fire vibration was dominant.
We look back at the period preceding the life manifestation of Jonah and we see that, insofar as the present outline of history is concerned, its detailed expression begins approximately with Abraham. At that time there was sacrifice by Fire, and Abraham had the trial as to his only-begotten son. All the way through the history of the Children of Israel up to the time of the manifestation of Jesus Christ there is emphasized in many different ways the principle involved in the vibration of Fire and sacrifice by Fire. We see how the whole structure of God's revelation to man during that period was on a Fire vibration. It could not have been in any other way. Jonah was sent to warn Nineveh of the impending destruction by fire, but he felt that it was a terrible thing to go in and tell these people that if they did not repent they were going to be destroyed by fire. His human sympathies were too much at work. He had not yet entered into the firmness of function in Divine Love, and the absolute, inflexible course of the Cosmic Plan. Consequently he undertook to run away, and when he was on the ship a great storm came, and in order to save the ship he was thrown overboard. And God had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights before he was spewed up on dry land; that is, into the air.
Now we recognize that the Master was in the tomb for three days and three nights, and that that revealed the necessity of transformation in the three phases of man, that the three phases of man be resurrected into the things of God. Now some have supposed that Jonah's three days and nights in the belly of the great fish were merely a prophecy of the fact that Jesus was to be in the tomb for three days and three nights, and the real significance they miss entirely. The three days and three nights represent the necessity of resurrection of the three phases of man into a state which conforms with the Divine. When the period that was dominated by Fire came to a close, it was around the year 400 B.C. Prior to the time that Jesus came into the world there naturally had been a change to a Water vibration in the two cycles, and an Air vibration in the third or uppermost Grand Cycle; in other words in relationship to the 310,400-year period, which began about 400 B.C., we had a dominant, overall vibration of Air. And that vibration will continue for over 300,000 years from this moment, because the period is roughly 310,400 years, but insofar as the 25,800-year and the 2,150-year periods are concerned, both were the beginning of the cycle, which meant that both were a Water vibration. That meant that the people of God, represented by Jonah, were to move out of the Fire vibration, which was emphasized by the threatened destruction of Nineveh by fire in relationship to the unreal state of the world, into a Water vibration. And the great fish prepared for Jonah was simply the Biblical sign, or symbol, a way of saying that the Water Age would begin in the next cycle, and that the children of God would move into the belly of that Water Age.
Now the Water Age, insofar as the 25,800-year cycle is concerned, will continue for about 23,000 years yet, but insofar as the directly involved cycle is concerned, the 2,150-year period would come to an end at about 1760 A.D., and immediately following that there would be an Air vibration. God was telling man that he would have roughly a 2,150-year period under the Water vibration, in which he would have the opportunity of experiencing the resurrection of body and mind and spirit into conformity with things Divine; but after the close of that cycle, or period of time, man would be spewed up out of the belly of the fish—they would be moving out of a period of comparative darkness under the Water vibration onto dry land; that is, into the Air. Man was being told that the Air Age would begin, and it did begin with the Air Age at about 1760. Present outworkings insofar as world events are concerned provide proof of that fact. 1900 marks the end of the overlapping period, because the vibrations of the Age that exists and the one that succeeds overlap each other for a period of about 300 years. That means that an outgoing Age dominates the first 150 years of the incoming Age. The incoming Age is increasingly dominant, but the first 150 years of the incoming Age are dominated by the outgoing Age. That point of division comes roughly at the year 1900. In other words at 1900—back forty-six years from the point of time where we now live [120 years ago today]—God's people were spewed out of the belly of the great fish into the Air Age, and since that time we have had the development of the things that take cognizance of that Air vibration which became dominant at that point.
The Master said that the sign of Jonah was given to the people of the world, and He indicated that it was sufficient, and they did not need any other sign. What I have been dealing with was what the Master had in mind when He spoke of the sign of the prophet Jonah. It all worked out exactly as God said it would, and the children of God were spewed out of the belly of the fish into the open Air at what we call 1900. They had been in the belly of the fish for a period of time beginning about 400 B.C. They were in the process of being spewed out for 300 years prior to 1900, roughly speaking. To the degree that we have grasped the fundamental significance of all of this, our minds recognize the fact that Jesus Himself emphasized that He was living in a Water Age, in contrast to the Fire Age which had been. He called fishermen as His disciples. He performed many of His miracles in relationship to water, the first being the changing of water to wine, so that man might know how to change the abstract water of truth into the living wine of life. He performed the miracle of walking upon the water, and He stilled the storm, saying, “Peace, be still.”
At the beginning of His Ministry there was emphasis placed upon baptism by water. You find no record whatsoever of Jesus Himself baptizing anyone with water. John the Baptist was the one who baptized with water and the later disciples carried through on that; but in sending His disciples out Jesus did not instruct them to baptize with water. He instructed that they baptize with the Holy Spirit. He Himself was working from a Cosmic vibration. John the Baptist was the harbinger of Light, through whom the emphasis was placed on baptism insofar as ceremonial function was concerned in relationship to the Water Age, and the later disciples, in their activities after Jesus ascended, used baptism with water and emphasized it; but Jesus Himself did not. Jesus recognized that that Water Age would pass, and that when it had passed, as it was revealed to man through the sign of the prophet Jonah, man would be spewed out into an Air Age, where the primary necessities would be coordination with the Spirit, and a period would come when it would be very needful that man should be baptized of the Holy Ghost. We live in that time. We see that the sign of the prophet Jonah carries up to the time where we now are, but that is not all of the sign.
Let us look at the rest of it. Jonah went back to Nineveh and proclaimed the Word of the Lord. That means that a great revelation of the Word of the Lord would come after the close of the Water Age in which Jesus should manifest, in the early part of the Air Age that should follow, and that is the time in which we live. And it meant that those who responded to the call to repent, as the people of Nineveh did, would be spared destruction by Fire. Nevertheless, as it is stated here in Peter: “But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment.” Perhaps we should look on the word and consider it in relationship to the atomic bomb or atomic fire. “But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” It does not say that the godly men should be burned, and it is not something to be feared by godly men. In the 10th verse it says: “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”
We represent the people of the world as they move into this new Air Age. They have the opportunity of repenting and accepting the greater revelation of the Word of God, as the prophet Jonah foretold would be made manifest early in this Age. We know that that prophecy has been fulfilled. The Word of God has been made known to the children of God; not to all the people of the world as yet, but it is expanding in that direction. Those that repent will not be destroyed by Fire because they will be transformed by Fire and made whole. The Fire burns away the unreal. Those who are identified with the unreal will be destroyed. Those who are identified with God will find that the Fire simply burns away the bonds, as it did with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who were cast into the burning fiery furnace which was heated seven times hotter that it was wont to be heated. It destroyed the ungodly, but for the faithful ones it simply burned away their bonds, so that they walked with another, like unto the Son of God. This Fire sets us free, so that we may walk with the Father within individually—one like unto the Son of God. Therefore we see that the sign of the prophet Jonah was completely sufficient for man and that no man was left without sufficient signs if he would but open his eyes, that he might live in an understanding of the period of the cosmic cycles in which we live and serve God and man.
We should have a deeper understanding of that which is taking place. These things that have developed through man's misuse of the opportunities which God granted are actually what God anticipated that man would bring forth. It is not something that in any sense hinders or prevents the outworking of God's Plan, but rather, the workers of iniquity play into the hand of God and permit the ultimate outworking and fulfilment of that which is according to the promise, by reason of which the New Earth and the New Heaven are assured. So let us remember that these world turmoils which are now, and which shall increase, are not signs of failure on the part of God, nor are they an indication that we ourselves shall fail in that to which we are called, but rather, when we see these things we should rejoice and we should realize that God works in mysterious ways His wonders to perform. We should remember the words of the 92nd Psalm: “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High.”
At the present time we have in the Grand Cycle of 310,400 years, Air; in the 25,800-year cycle, Water; and in the 2,160-year cycle, Air. However, we must also remember that the overlap period of the 25,000-year Fire Age that closed 400 B.C. is still with us. Therefore, there is a projection of the Solar Fire Age into this present Air Age. The activity of the Fire in the Air is that of cleansing. We do not have to have a Fire Cycle in order to have the fulfilment of the cleansing by the Fire of God—Love. We should always remember what vibrations we are working under. Anytime you do anything that is not blended with those vibrations it is not going to work. The Air vibration is the dominant one, and remember to be attuned to the Spirit. From the standpoint of planning, or from the standpoint of long-range vision, or in relationship to the Plan, we have to consider how those vibrations are working through the Air-Water-Air vibration, or it will not be a clear picture. Regardless of what we feel, we do the right thing. “Think not that I am come to bring peace, but the sword.
This point could be emphasized again: “This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets.” That includes Jonah, and is emphasized by the fact that the sign of the prophet Jonah was the only one that would be given to the world. “And of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” We know that it is the sign of the coming of the Christ kingdom for all the people who survive the changes that are at hand—the ushering in of the New Earth state, where heaven and earth are one, as emphasized by the sign. The sign of the prophet Jonah is given to all people of the world, but how many will be able to see that sign in the sense of accepting it and recognizing its importance? Let us not imagine for a moment that because we have dealt with it tonight that it will mean anything more to the people of the world as a whole. If you had a means to broadcast that expression, as it was given tonight, over the radio every week for six months on a national hookup, there would be precious few that would pay any attention to it.
This again emphasizes the importance of our radiation work. Let us remember that it is not necessary—in fact it would be undesirable—to have people who are just beginning to sprout spiritually come immediately into the Third Sacred School consciously. Let us remember that those individuals who have the real stuff in them—and if we carry through properly here—will be drawn step by step to the point where they can contact us. If we start thinking about it in the sense of running out and telling them, we will wreck it. All those individuals will have to grow and develop out of that darkness and move along the ways that will open, and as long as they respond they will be drawn by those irresistible cords of love.
And we must remember to remember that we mean what we say. It is true that we will want to open up new channels. They will run into various things that will give them an avenue of approach. That means, then, that we have a great responsibility in understanding these things, working on the vibration and letting the radiation flow out. That is what we are doing here, and that is opening the way for those individuals. It will touch all those who are sprouting spiritually. They have to sprout under the conditions where they live or they will not be reached. We cannot smooth the path before them. We have to remember that it is working according to these plans, programs and principles and do our part and let it work out. If they cannot follow through to the point where they contact the service, they wouldn't be any good anyway. So until they come through to it—we will open it up for them—it is no good. We must realize that personal sympathy will not work. They have to prove the stuff that is in them, and if they have it in them they are going to come through. It is going to be easier all the time. Now, this is a good subject and a good point that we can radiate through.
As the world response is being speeded up we have gradually got to a point where we can intensify the strength of the radiation. Then as those out there permit an increased radiation to be effective, we find it developed here. The individuals here have let themselves be attuned to that. We are coming to a point where it must intensify. But it is reaching those individuals who are responding, and consequently we are pulling just as hard as their response will permit. If we could arbitrarily start speeding things up, that would snap the vibrations. If you were trying to pull in a fish and it started to fight, what would happen? You would break the line. These lines of vibration will stand only so much pressure. Sometimes I have to let it relax and stop the pulling pressure. There is a pulsating effect in the whole thing, and as individuals respond they are drawn. So these who are here are the ones who followed through on vibrations that were set up and were given the opportunity of service here. As individuals work on the vibration, it will work, just as surely as it has before.

The Form Of All Phases Of Heaven

Heaven and earth are one. Heaven and earth have always been one. If it was not for the fact of the oneness of heaven and earth, the earth would not continue to exist; neither would we as human beings be able to live on the surface of this planet. God never created anything other than heaven. If God is a God of love, if that which He does is characteristic of His nature, then all that He creates is perfect. Possibly we need to understand a little more clearly what perfection is from the Divine standpoint, but the condition of evil, unwholesomeness as it is known in the world, was not created by God. It is entirely something brought forth by man, contrary to God's will. God never created anything else but heaven.
At every level of heaven there is the earth. As human beings we are aware of an extremely limited vibratory range of being. We can see certain wavelengths of light. By the use of other instruments man becomes aware of a range of vibration both above that which is discernible by light as light and below that range. We are capable of detecting various substances within the vibrational range in which we live as human beings. But the actual range of his perception in relationship to the sum total of God's creation is extremely limited, just a narrow band of vibration. All these levels of vibration insofar as God is concerned were created as levels of heaven. In relationship to each vibratory range there is that present within the scope of that vibratory range that which makes possible the development of form. We have heaven and earth in relationship to every level, the earth being the form aspect of heaven. That which God created at this level where we are is just as much a part of heaven, just as spiritual, as any creation in any other heaven anywhere. The materials of which we are aware in this vibratory range are just as spiritual as the things and formations at any level in any heaven anywhere. And there is form at every vibratory level. The mere fact that man is incapable of perceiving that which is at higher vibratory levels than the field of his own function does not indicate that nothing exists there. Man's capacity to perceive is very limited. But the form aspect of heaven at any level is the spirit aspect of heaven at the level below it. I would like to read something to you from the Book of Revelation.
"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." At the very beginning, the first Book of the Bible, we have the statement, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." And we come to the last Book in the Bible, almost the last chapter, and we find something with respect to a new heaven and a new earth. That which is contained between these two points is concerned simply with letting that which was in the beginning be reestablished again. God created that which was perfect in the beginning; He created man in His own image and likeness. Man fell. Man left his position in that state of being in which God first created him and he brought about, consequently, in this vibratory range of being where it is supposed to be heaven, a state of affairs which is a far cry from heaven. Most people are aware of a certain amount of hell. God's immediate purpose has been to bring man back to the place where he ought to be, that there may be a new heaven and a new earth, a different manifestation in relationship to this realm of being to that which is now present. This that we know as the first heaven and the first earth is not of God's creation but of man's creation, and God's immediate purpose is to bring man back to the state of being in which He first created him in His own image and likeness.
"John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." The holy city. Here is something coming down from God out of heaven, a form, the earth aspect in the heavenly range immediately above this heavenly range of being, the form aspect, and the form of that heaven provides the spirit of this heaven where we live, properly speaking. This same principle operates all the way through from level to level, so that there is an unbroken chain and we, as human beings out here on earth, are not cut off from God, as so many are inclined to think. Man has never been separated from God, as long as he remains alive on earth. An aspect of the spirit of God is life. As long as man has life he is certainly connected up with God. Man has never been separated from God except insofar as his own vision was concerned. Heaven has never been separated from earth except insofar as man's vision is concerned, and consequently his action has brought forth many things that are not true to the spirit of that which is coming down from God out of heaven. The form of the heaven above provides the spirit of the heaven below, and this holy city is the spirit of that which should be brought forth in this heaven below, within the range where we live, providing the pattern, the design, the essential control elements, for the bringing forth in form, in manifestation at this level of being, that which God intended should appear; for this is heaven, right here. We do not need to go anyplace else to get to heaven.
Man cannot in fact go anyplace else. Man cannot live anyplace else except right here on earth. True enough, when the human being dies, something leaves his body which is capable of moving to a higher vibratory level; but that is not man. Man was created to be here on earth; he was not created to be anyplace else. God put him here because that was where he was needed. If God had needed man in some higher heaven He would have put him there. The revelation of the fact of heaven at this level is absolutely dependent upon man. Here is the place where man was created to be. What is it that makes a place heavenly? What is it that would cause any vibratory range of being anywhere to be heavenly? Simply the presence of God. Where God is in manifestation, there heaven is. God is in manifestation at every heavenly level but this one, consequently every heavenly level of the whole cosmic scheme of things is heavenly except this one where God is not in manifestation. Man was created in the image and likeness of God so that God might be in manifestation at this level of His heaven, and until God is in manifestation at this level of being, heaven cannot be known at this level of being. And because man cannot live in any other level of being, he excludes himself from knowing heaven. Man is the means by which God can manifest at this level of being. Man was created in the image and likeness of God for that purpose.
"Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men." That tabernacle symbolized that which is the dwelling place of God on earth. God does not live in temples made with hands. The tabernacle of God is with men, and God cannot have any dwelling place on earth without men. "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men." It always has been. Insofar as God's dwelling place at this level of being is concerned the tabernacle of God is with men. It has never been taken away; but men have never allowed God to dwell in His tabernacle. "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God." Doesn't that indicate clearly the manifestation of God at this level of being? It is not talking about getting up into heaven somewhere. It is talking about something coming down from God out of heaven into the earth, so that God may be allowed to dwell at this level of His heaven, from whence He has been so surely excluded for so long.
The manifestation of God is a reality at every level of Being but this one where we are. Because it is so at every other level of Being, there is no place anywhere in all the Cosmic range of Being which is not heaven. When we begin to recognize the continuity of Divine Being, we may begin to sense that which is back of us. At the beginning of this Book of Revelation, John made mention of the Voice which spoke behind him, and he turned to see the Voice which spoke with him and he began to recognize that which was back of him, that which was back not only of himself as an individual but was back of the manifestation of everything that is here in the world.
When we look up into the sky on a clear night and see the stars, we recognize that this Solar System is a part of what might be called the Milky Way Universe, a Universe in which there are millions of suns and solar systems like unto our own, greater and smaller, and that this is just one of such systems of which there are millions more; it begins to make this little Earth seem rather an insignificant place. But what of the little beings that walk to and fro upon the surface of the planet? When we begin to recognize the vastness of the Body of God, recognizing that that which we are capable of observing is only that which comes within the limited range of our perception, that it is only a fraction of that which actually is, then as human beings we might tend to feel pretty meaningless. Human beings do feel somewhat alone. And yet man is not separate from God. When we begin to recognize that which is back of us, when we begin to recognize that we, properly speaking, are just the form aspect of God at this level of being, then we are a part of all that extends back into the central essences of Being in God, and that which comes to focus in each one is a part of the wholeness of the Being of God. The Being of God is such a tremendous thing that it staggers human imagination, and yet that which is back of us is a part of the Being of God.
Human beings have so little faith in relationship to God. They look around in the world, in this little speck of dust in the cosmic-all-that-is, and they see manifestations of what is conceived to be great power—the power of evil, the power of the hydrogen bomb, the power of masses of human beings—and it is considered to be such a tremendous thing, the power appearing through human beings who have segregated themselves in their own consciousness from God, stealing some of God's power, utilizing it for their own ends. That is considered to be such a tremendous thing. How does it compare with the Allness of God? How does it compare with that which is back of those human beings who begin to let themselves become the form aspect of God at this level of Being? For in relationship to each one there is a focalization brought to point of the Whole Being of God. There is that which is back of the individual; there is that which is back of that which is back of the individual, and so on, all the way to the Central Being of God, the Central Essences of God, providing such a tremendous Wholeness of Being that it is beyond the understanding of the human mind. But it is there, whether we can understand it or not. Whether we can comprehend it or not, it is there, the Being of God. Nothing could have any being anywhere but for the Being of God. Your being as a human being is absolutely dependent upon the Being of God. You have no being separate from God, and those human beings who ignore God and who do not let themselves come to the point of acknowledging the Truth in relationship to themselves, that they were made in the image and likeness of God to provide the form aspect of the Being of God at this level, discover sooner or later that they do not have any being of themselves. Man cannot be anywhere else but where God put him, and if man does not come to the point of letting God be here at this level of Being, man can never know God anywhere.
Mankind was created to provide God with the form aspect of His Being here at this level of His creation. Man has refused to let himself be that which he was created to be, consequently he has separated himself from God in his own consciousness, and finally he separates himself from God in fact, and he ceases to be anything and his body returns to the dust from whence it came. This is not what God intended for man, for man was created in the image and likeness of God to be the form aspect of the Being of God at this level of God's creation, that God might be here on earth. "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men." Let us acknowledge the fact; let us accept it. "And he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God." Where? Up in some far-distant heaven? No, here on earth. If you do not see God right here on earth, through the form aspect of His Being right here on earth, you will never see Him anywhere else, because this is the only place that man is capable of seeing. "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." It did not say, "after you are dead." It did not mean "after you are dead." It means right here and now, as long as we have the capacity to see. God is made manifest at every level of His creation through the forms provided for His manifestation at the particular level of His creation—and man is the form at this level. If God is not revealed through man He is not revealed at this level, and because man cannot be at any other level, man does not know God, cannot know God. There are those who have had what they presumed to be visions; some have thought that they saw Jesus Christ. But they never did, except those who were here when He was made manifest in form on earth. If we are to see God, if we are to know God, He must be allowed to find manifestation in form through that which He provided for that purpose—mankind; for He created mankind in His own image and likeness as the form aspect of His Being at this level of His creation. And when God appears through man at this level of His creation, once more it is seen as being heaven, heaven made manifest through the forms of earth.
