The Silver Cord Begins To Have Meaning

The  Silver  Cord  Begins  To  Have  Meaning

The Life of Victory

Uranda   November 15, 1951

First I wish to touch very briefly on what we could properly call the key to the life of victory in the divine pattern, the fulfilment toward which you are all looking and toward which you are moving. It would be well for you to remember this key and meditate upon it, especially if there be times of stress in the pattern of the outworking of your lives. The words may be expressed like this: Let the Will of the Father be done, under the Direction of the Son, through the Power of the Holy Ghost. To the degree that you can abide in the attitude indicated by these words, you will be moving forward effectively.

As our Master came near to the concluding hours of His ministry on earth He made a very significant statement: “The prince of this world cometh, and findeth nothing in me.” Last weekend we had the privilege of a very effective cycle of services, sharing in the outworking of the spirit of God in our lives, and I wonder how many of you found that after the increased manifestation of the current working through you there was a tendency to feel pressures and perhaps a sense of depression, something of a sense of a load after that, in the early part of the week. I think most of you, if not all, who had any real perception of the increased current, felt something of that pressure that appeared.

Long ago I pointed out whenever there is an increased manifestation of divine power because we have moved upward along the way, there will tend to be pressures, or backwash, from out of the world because of the reality of increased radiation. We cannot move forward, in the sense of letting the power of God be released into the world, without having some reaction out of the world. When that reaction out of the world comes back to us, when those pressures come back, if there remains in the individual, in the ghost of his being, that subconscious realm of the mind and heart, those things that are of the world, then this backwash, this reactionary pressure from out of the world, will connect up in the individual with that which is not yet what it ought to be and there will be a tendency to have a reaction. There will be a tendency for whatever there is of the ill things remaining to come out.

The Master said, “The prince of this world cometh, and findeth nothing in me.” He recognized that, while there had been various cycles of reaction from out of the world during the period of His ministry, the full force of that ministry was coming to its climax and the backwash from out of the world would be appearing. It was near at hand. We remember how, according to the story, He began to meet that reactionary vibration of the world in Gethsemane. If it had not been true, as He had said earlier, that the prince of this world could find nothing in Him, the backwash, the reactionary currents from out of the world, would have destroyed Him in that hour in Gethsemane. The meaningfulness of that hour is something that we might well meditate upon, but before we do we need to recognize certain principles in relationship to ourselves.

As you individually let go to the outworking of the cycle that was released through this past weekend, something was established in you which was moving, and should still be moving, toward a cleansing of that subconscious realm. To whatever degree you actually let go at that time, the reality of that cleansing has begun. When there is the reality of radiation, of the working of the power of the Holy Ghost through you, it tends to dispel, to cleanse out from you, those things that do not belong to you and are not a part of your reality. However, that radiation going on out into the world produces a reaction in the world consciousness and there is a returning cycle. As you remain centered, fully obedient to the One Law according to the two commandments, that backwash cannot upset you, even though the coming of the prince of this world may reveal something in you that belongs to the prince of this world, something that is not of the divine origin. If you allow yourselves to be controlled by these ill things that remain in you and get connected up in the world pattern, you spoil the outworking of the cycle and by such function deny God, betray His trust, and put yourself in a position where you have to go through the process all over again. The complete process is not, generally speaking, completed in one operation. Cycles of outworking take place.

Let us meditate upon the things that have to be cleared in the individual before he can come to that point where he may share in true realization the Master's statement: “The prince of this world cometh, and findeth nothing in me.” We have in recent services considered the nature of this subconscious realm, not just the surface aspects of the subconscious, with which the conscious mind is more or less familiar, but beneath the surface, the subterranean aspects of mind and heart. This that has been built through human self-activity, environmental influence, things projected into the subconscious by the mass consciousness, etc., may be called the unholy ghost in the individual. We are supposed to reach a point where we let the Holy Ghost abide in us and work through us, and it is only by reason of the Holy Ghost in us that we have the privilege of sharing on earth the expression of God's power. As long as there is anything which divides this sub-ghost aspect of being from the Father, the power of God cannot be made manifest in reality through the individual.

In a recent service I touched upon the two extremes in relationship to that which we speak of as death insofar as the result to the ghost is concerned—the extreme, on the one hand, where the ghost had not come to any attunement with the Father and so is dissipated, and the other extreme where there was such an attunement and the ghost ascended to the Father. I did not enlarge on it at that time, but it is obvious that there is a middle section, which perhaps may be said to be the larger of the three. We will briefly touch upon this particular aspect in order to help you to understand something that is essential to our immediate realization.

If the individual has lived a good life, not necessarily a religious life, but if the individual has let something of that nobility and fineness of character which comes from God—and it comes from no other source—find some expression in life, then even though that individual is not particularly aware of the reality of an individual God Being, and even though he may be more or less agnostic—not atheistic but agnostic—if he has allowed that which is of God to find expression through him in nobility of character, honesty, integrity, etc., there is an attunement of the ghost with the Father, but the ghost does not know or understand the relationship. The ghost after it leaves the body does not know any more than it knew in the body. If there is a break between the ghost and the Father, the ghost dissipates sooner or later. It might continue, under some conditions, for many years. If there is a connection because of that nobility, or suppose the individual was religious and spiritual according to the general world pattern and undertook to live a good life but carried it to the extreme, suppose this individual belonged to a church that believed there was not anything to leave the body at death except the air that he was breathing, that there was no soul to leave the body—and there are certain religions that believe that, that all you are is just a body with a mind, and everything goes into the ground—suppose that individual, believing that, had a love for God someplace far away, obscure to the mind but a definiteness of love, goodness, etc., but there was a denial of personal relationship with a divine source, no presence of a divine something within, no recognition of anything that did not die at the time of death, that ghost, upon leaving the body at death, would have the same ideas, because, remember, your conscious mind cannot remember anything. It is the realm where you do your thinking on the basis of logic and reason, but there are only two places from which any thought can come into the conscious mind; one, on the basis of direct current of inspiration from the Lord, or Father, which most human beings don't know anything about, and the other is the subconscious realm. You separate the conscious mind from the subconscious and it can have awareness only of that which it sees at the moment. It cannot remember anything whatsoever, and while it can think in relationship to that which is perceived at the moment, there is nothing for it to fall back upon.

So, broadly speaking, the expression which appears through the individual mind is that which comes up through the subconscious. The subconscious, or the subconscious ghost, or the subconscious aspect of the ghost—for the conscious and subconscious minds are the primary elements of the ghost, which ceases to be a being when it is separated from the Father consciousness—is the realm where there are receptive points to that which is already contained in the subconscious mind. If we project, by study and learning, certain knowledge, certain ideas into the subconscious mind, then there is an orientation point there in the subconscious mind, even though we may say we have forgotten, which gives a connecting link with vibrational factors of the same kind which may be present elsewhere. If that which is in the subconsciousness is good, right knowledge, then it takes up with like vibrational factors in the subconscious minds of others in the mass consciousness and there is a contact point in the individual which gives him a sense of relatedness to these things. If nothing has been projected into the individual's subconsciousness with respect to something, he has absolutely no sense of relatedness to it until something with respect to that subject has been projected into his subconsciousness. The individual sense of relatedness to other things depends upon what is in the subconscious realm of his own heart and mind. If the things that are there are things that ought not to be there—there are plenty of things in the mass consciousness and in the vibrational pattern of others which ought not to be there—that which ought not to be in the individual provides a sense of relatedness with that which ought not to be in the mass consciousness, and under pressure the individual is inclined to react on the basis of these evil spirits of his own ghost aspect of being, and he becomes subject to that. He denies, by his attitude and action, his centering in God. He says all kinds of things that in any rational moment he knows are utterly false. He becomes irrational under the current of these evil spirits in himself which have a relatedness to all kinds of evil spirits, ill attitudes, etc, in the mass consciousness.

When a process of cleansing begins by the working of the power of God, or the Holy Ghost, these things begin to get dislodged. They are like leeches in there, but they begin to get dislodged and they begin to stir up and come to the surface. If the mind is in the habit of becoming subject to that which comes out of the subconscious realm, immediately rational function ceases and the reactionary currents from out of the world appear, the prince of this world cometh and findeth something of himself in the individual, and the individual functions on a basis that is utterly contrary to that which he knows to be the truth.

The guardian angel, the conscious mind, must reach a point where it is not subject to the subconscious aspect, where it stays centered in the Father, so that it is a manifestation of the Son, or the mind that was in Christ Jesus. Then, when something starts boiling and bubbling from the subconscious realm to be cleansed away, the conscious mind is not taken over by the subconscious vibrational pattern. The conscious mind stays centered because it is anchored in the Father. Then, although there is something in the individual which belongs to the prince of this world, the individual does not allow his centering in the Father to be lost and that which is coming out is cast out. If, however, the conscious mind gives way on an emotional reaction of some kind, so that the irrational expression of the subconscious realm takes control, then the prince of this world not only finds something in the individual but reestablishes his control over the individual and anchors his leeches that much more solidly in the individual's sub-ghost, and he has to begin the process of cleansing all over again.

We remember the text in Ecclesiastes 12:6—“Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.” Here we have the elements clearly portrayed in relationship to the whole being of man.

The silver cord relates to the seven seals, the endocrine system, as we have already pointed out; but that relates in the direct sense to the subconscious mind. Of course a part of the endocrine system has direct relationship to the conscious mind, but in the primary sense the silver cord is the instrument of connection between the Father and the sub-ghost in the individual. Out of the trunk, or stem, of the manifestation of the silver cord in the individual, innumerable rootlets spread in the expression of life from the subconscious realm, or what we might call the body of form of this subconscious aspect of being in heart and mind. Because the emotional current is working through the silver cord in all respects, where it is actually functioning in any ordinary sense, there is that which establishes vibrational contact points. If the individual has some possession, any article which he loves, is very fond of, he develops a sentimental sense of value, and then we see that some rootlet of the silver cord extends to that object. The individual is connected up with it. It has a part of his life force. A rootlet out of this stem connects up with all of those things to which you respond.

Over and over again I have emphasized to you that, “According to your response, so be it unto you.” A rootlet of the silver cord working through the subconscious realm connects up with anything—an idea, any of the evil spirits of the heart, greed, selfishness, self-centeredness, or any object or any person. When you respond to something below you, you are connecting up the very center of your life force with that thing and becoming subject to it. Response to that which is below you, response to that which is not of God in your own subconscious realm, makes you subject to such things, and the mind is in the habit of giving way and turning expression and function over to the subconscious mind instead of holding steady and being the guardian angel.

This might in some respects be best illustrated by the solar plexus, in the physical sense, and that more or less centers this subconscious realm in your own being, as far as that is concerned. Here in the solar plexus you have nerve ganglia, with the expression of the nervous system running out to many parts of the body. That body mass that we are calling the subconscious is a mass actually, not in the same sense as nerve tissue or ganglia or brain substance, but it still has form. To the degree of response, that sends out a rootlet that connects up with that to which the individual responds. However there are rootlets which appear on another basis, on the basis of controlled command. The uncontrolled expression of the individual life results in that which we see out in the world, where these rootlets are distributed indiscriminately. The individual connects up with all sorts of things, feeds his life force into them, becomes subject to them, degenerates and decays, instead of responding one-pointedly to God through the Father. We will consider this controlled expression at a later time, but remember that there is a controlled expression of the rootlets of the silver cord which can extend out on the basis of command, not because you are responding to something out here but because, by the will of the Father, under the direction of the Son, in the power of the Holy Ghost, a connection is made through which the power may flow to do something. There is an interesting key, but do not try to speculate on it too much. We will get to a consideration of that in due season.

The important thing at the moment is this: Remember how at the time of the fall Adam and Eve went and hid themselves; their first reaction was a sense of shame. The Lord God, who came walking in the garden in the cool of the day, here reveals the Father consciousness. Adam and Eve reveal the conscious and subconscious aspects of being—Eve the subconscious, Adam the conscious. The Adam consciousness is supposed to be subject to the Father, not to the Eve consciousness; but the Eve consciousness saw that the forbidden fruit was good to make one wise and she did eat, not under the control of the Adam consciousness but self-actively, and she gave to Adam, the conscious mind in any individual—in you, in every man, woman and child on the face of the earth. The Eve consciousness, the subconscious realm that we are talking about, gave to the Adam consciousness and he did eat. And immediately what happened? They were ashamed and they went and hid themselves and took fig leaves to cover their nakedness.

Then the Lord God came walking in the cool of the day, calling to them, and they did not answer at first. Of course there was not a complete break yet in the vibrational pattern, but they went and hid themselves and they were ashamed, and they just talked to the Lord at a distance at first. When the Lord God came walking, instead of acknowledging their error Eve blamed the serpent, Adam blamed Eve, and they did not face up to the issue honestly. God gave them three separate opportunities to face up to the issue but they refused. If they had responded then, the effect of the fall could have been nullified then. But they didn't. So all these thousands of years of suffering! That story of the fall is a revelation of the fundamental principles about which we have been talking in the past few services.

Notice that the moment there was disobedience, the first reaction on the part of Adam and Eve was a sense of shame, and the sense of shame penetrated deeper and became a more permanent thing from the standpoint of the subconscious than the conscious—of Eve than of Adam. It is in the subconscious realm that there is memory. If the individual does something which he conceives to be wrong—whether it is wrong or not is beside the point; it may not have been wrong at all but he thought it was wrong according to his mental idea and what had been established in his subconscious realm—and does not really clear it out by repentance and response to God, he covers it up, as the subconscious mind is quick to do. That which it does not like it buries a little bit deeper, gets it away as far as it can in the depths of itself. The moment there is a guilt complex in the subconscious realm, regardless of what the conscious mind thinks, the subconscious mind turns its face away from God and will not look up to Him, no matter what you do. The guilt complex in the subconscious mind keeps it from acknowledging the Father, keeps it from receiving anything from the Father. It is convinced in itself that it is guilty and it is filled with a sense of shame; so it is bowed down and refuses--because there is no logic or reason in it, remember—to receive anything from the Father because it does not think it is worthy, because it is ashamed.

You begin to see, then, that as long as there is a guilt complex in the subconscious mind it is utterly impossible for that individual to come into a state of oneness with the Father. The individual cannot of himself clear that guilt complex. He must repent and receive forgiveness in a manner which allows the consciousness of that forgiveness to penetrate into the subconscious mind. Then, when the guilt complex is cleared away, the subconscious realm is no longer ashamed before the Lord but is ready to stand naked and unashamed before the Lord. Then it will look up. The subconscious realm is connected to the Father by means of the silver cord. If the subconscious realm, having a guilt complex and therefore a sense of shame, is separated in consciousness from the Father, there is no way by which anything from the Father can reach it. It shuts itself off. It cannot forgive itself; it cannot remove its own guilt complex. It shuts itself off from the Father. The current from the Father is supposed to reach the level of the conscious mind from two directions: a positive and negative pole working through the conscious mind, one, you may say, direct from the Father and the other indirectly from the Father, through the subconscious mind and back to the conscious mind. That which the Father would impress on the conscious mind, by reason of inspiration, must have a body of form, a starting point within the range of that which the individual knows in his subconscious realm, if this direct current of inspiration is going to have meaning. In other words from above, from the Father, direct to the conscious mind, there is an impulse conveying some idea. Unless there is response in the subconscious realm which allows that which will provide the body for this thought that is being projected, the projected thought never gets into the conscious mind. If the subconscious realm is ashamed before the Lord, it will not let anything come out of itself to rise up.

There must be a starting point. We have to move from the known to the unknown. The starting point of the idea has to be in the subconscious realm. If there is the projection from the Father to the point of the conscious mind and the subconscious responds, some idea that has relationship to that which is being projected is drawn to the surface and comes into the realm of thinking—the pitcher at the fountain, the wheel at the cistern—and something begins to move. You begin to think in the realm of logic and reason. The inspired thought is in itself logical and reasonable. Projected into the realm of logic and reason, the element of control is established, something arises out of the subconscious realm to give body to it, and then it becomes a thought in the mind. Then meditation upon it allows an expansion of vision and understanding, related ideas begin to appear, and a current of divine inspiration flows. But as long as the subconscious realm has that guilt complex and is ashamed before the Lord, it will not let any idea arise out of itself in response to that which is projected by the Father; that which is projected by the Father in radiation, or inspiration, does not connect up. It remains meaningless and the individual exists as if he did not have any connection with the Father, controlled by the subconscious realm and its fears and its shames, subconsciously related to the ill vibrations in the world that relate to the ill things in itself. Until the individual allows the guilt complex to be removed—we do not have to figure it all out—and until the sense of shame has vanished, he cannot be a true instrument for the expression of the Will of the Father under the Direction of the Son, by the Power of the Holy Ghost. Until the unholy ghost has been cleansed, so that it becomes through the working of the spirit of God the Holy Ghost abiding in you, you cannot be a means by which God's will is done on earth as it is in heaven.

Here you have a little glimpse of the machinery by which these things work out. The human being tends to resist, just as Adam and Eve did. He tends to resist acknowledging in a forthright manner his wrong. He tends to resist doing anything toward correcting it, making restitution. As long as the individual has the guilt complex and the sense of shame, so that the face of the subconscious realm is turned away from the Father and refuses to listen to the Father or be obedient to the Will of the Father or respond to the Direction of the Son, it is connected up, through the ill factors in itself, with all of the corresponding ill factors in the prince of this world, and the currents from out of the world control. The individual may build what he feels to be a good philosophy of life and may try to live a good life, but in actual fact he is subject to the prince of this world, regardless of his efforts to be good, and he is disconnected.

When the ghost comes to the point of death, subject to the guilt complex and the sense of shame, there is no hope for it, because the ghost cannot learn anything after it leaves the body, except as it is responsive to that which radiates from the Father. In such a case as we have just described there would not be an immediate separation of the ghost from the Father. There would still be something of that silver cord connecting, at least as far as the ghost and the Father are concerned, but it will rapidly shrivel and be broken, and the ghost will be cast loose, ultimately to dissipate. And that ghost is what the human being thinks he is. It is what he is talking about when he says “I”—his mind, his consciousness, to the depths of his being.

On the other hand, if even at the last—and we must not necessarily postpone it to the last minute—the individual genuinely repents and seeks forgiveness and lets the guilt complex be cast out and the sense of shame washed away, the ghost leaves the body, yes, but it is then looking up. It does not know anything about the Father; it is an ignorant thing; and yet it is connected up and it is looking up, and it begins to respond. Gradually the cycle opens and that ghost eventually ascends unto the Father, because the sense of shame has been wiped out. Remember that the ghost that is disconnected from the silver cord cannot learn anything. The moment the silver cord is severed from the ghost it ceases to be a being. It becomes merely a focalization of thought form which sooner or later will pass away. It may act as a parasite here or there, and such things are very often contacted in spiritualistic seances, and whatever they knew during life they can say over and over to the medium. You can contact such thought forms and get out of them what they knew before, but they cannot learn anything. They are not beings or entities but mere focalizations of thought form that sooner or later are going to dissipate and pass away.

In this middle class we see that although the individual does not have a consciousness of the God Being, or even of the fact of the ghost in himself, if at the moment of death he has allowed the sense of cleansing, forgiveness, freedom from shame, to be a reality, then gradually that ghost can be brought into focalization and ascend. That takes care, in very brief outline, of this middle classification. While that may take ten years, twenty-five, whatever more or less, what is the use of that? Oh it is better than nothing, I grant you, but if we are allowing the silver cord from the Father to the subconscious realm to be meaningful during life, so that the subconscious realm has been cleansed and there is no sense of shame controlling there, the subconscious mind is open to the Father, its face is turned toward the Father, and then out of it come those things, rising up to the current of inspiration, that come to focus in the realm of the conscious mind, and the individual begins to know the Will of the Father. He begins to speak the Word of the Father, perhaps stumblingly at first, while the machinery is getting into operation, but it begins to work. Then he begins to find that the power of God is a reality, that the wisdom of God, the understanding of God, the knowledge of the cosmos, can find focus in his being according to the need and the response.

Just as the radiation from the Father to the conscious mind cannot make any impression or accomplish anything in the individual except as there is response out of the subconscious realm, just so does the Word of the Father flowing through my lips, reaching out to you, remain meaningless to a great extent until the reality of response to it appears, until something rises up inside of yourselves. As long as there is resistance, holding back, a lethargic attitude, it is shutting off the release, because this expression manifests according to exactly the same laws and principles of outworking in any individual.

It has been my blessed and holy privilege to help individuals go through these processes of cleansing many times, cycles and cycles moving forward. You have all experienced it to some degree, but there could have been a greater cleansing through this recent cycle of release than there was, because in the subconscious realm to too great a degree the guilt complex, with a consequent sense of shame, is still controlling. The subconscious realm is still turning its face away from the Lord, maybe daring to take a quick glance over its shoulder once in a while but refusing to open itself to the Lord and be at His mercy. It says, “Oh, I'm guilty and I'm afraid the Lord will destroy me; I mustn't look at Him,” and it is a cringing, cowardly thing in your belly!

Only because you have progressed is it possible for me to convey these things or the things that we have considered in the recent services. It is not because I didn't want to give it sooner but because you wouldn't let me give it sooner. I have been waiting for years. You have been gradually allowing a focalization of consciousness to appear which would permit its expression, so that you could begin to see. Now, seeing and understanding something of the principles that are involved in relationship to yourselves, you have the opportunity of taking an honest inventory, of really repenting. What is it the Master said? “Repent, and be baptized”—with fire and the Holy Ghost; the fire of God's love, in the power of the Holy Ghost. “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” But until there is repentance, and the guilt complex removed and the sense of shame banished away, the individual cannot, by any maneuverings whatsoever, by any effort whatsoever, find entrance into that kingdom.

I trust that you have gained a greater vision of this, because that is the thing that happened at the time of the fall of man. You see it portrayed in the story there. It is revealed over and over again in the Book, and I have talked to you about it hundreds of times, in hundreds of different ways, as much as your response would permit. You must be willing to trust the Lord and throw yourself on His mercy, so that you repent enough to take the attitude, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” When the individual throws himself on God's mercy he is actually, if he does it truly, overwhelmed with a sense of guilt, and he says, “Oh, I know the Lord loves me, but my guilt is so great I would not blame Him if He just destroyed me.” It cannot be just the working of a few thoughts in the mind. It must be a genuine, penetrating thing, that reaches into the depths of being.

When there is that genuine repentance, so that the sense of shame can be banished, and the mind centers on the Father and does not respond to anything of the prince of this world in himself, the power of the Holy Ghost can cleanse out the putrid mess that does not belong there. And when it comes to the surface it will be repulsive. I have seen stark terror in the eyes of those being cleansed, and there is just one thing holding them—love response to God. There was horror at the realization that such things were in themselves, coming to the surface. But if the attitude of the individual is the same as if he had a boil, and he lets the putrid core gush out and does not claim it as his own, does not snatch it and try to push it back into himself, there is a way of freedom for himself. However, if he starts identifying himself with the putrid stuff that starts to gush out of himself, and says, “This is me,” the cleansing is reversed and the mess goes back down inside.

The individual has to reach a point of polarity where he lets that which does not belong in the subconscious realm come out and be cast out without identifying himself with it, even though it may seem for the moment that he is going to be nothing when the job is done. Then he will realize for the first time, in an absolute sense, that without God he is nothing—there are those within the sound of my voice who can testify to the truth of that. He may have intellectually accepted it for a long time but in that moment he comes face to face with the truth of it, that only in God can he be anything. With the sense of shame cleansed away the subconsciousness turns its face, tear-streaked and perhaps trembling, to the Father, throws itself on His mercy and refuses to be subject to anything coming out of itself or anything that has been related to itself out in the world.

There, facing the throne, in the subconscious realm the individual becomes open to the Father. The silver cord begins to have meaning, not just in a physical sense but in a mental sense—with the whole mind; the conscious mind and the subconscious mind—and in the heart. The silver cord begins to have meaning in the whole body, and the Will of the Father, under the Direction of the Son, by the Power of the Holy Ghost, begins to be done on earth as it is in heaven. As long as you hold back anything as a reservation, saying, “Lord, I will let you come thus far but in this I will not yield,” you cannot know what it is to enter the kingdom of heaven that is at hand.

These laws and principles are absolute. They are not subject to questioning of the human mind or human opinion or concept. It does not make any difference what anyone thinks or does not think, they are absolute, and we either conform to the laws according to the principles that you have been learning for years in the Third Sacred School or else! We see that out of the goodness that there is in the world the vast majority of those who die, because they repent at the last moment, do reach a point where the ghost, in some phase or portion of it at least, does ascend to the Father. But then it is too late for that fact to have any meaning on earth.

It is here on earth while we live that this thing is supposed to work out in our bodies, so that our bodies can be a means of God's action on earth here and now, releasing His power into the world. The ghost without the body, even though it ascends, has lost its opportunity of service on earth. And it is not in heaven that there is a need for the changing of things; it is here. Except as we allow this to take place while we live on earth, we deny the reason for our living and betray the trust of God. Only as we share the victory through the spirit of the living Christ can our lives have any true meaning on earth. The goodness of the human being does not let God's will be done on earth. It is only when we allow the cycle to complete, so that the Holy Ghost abiding in us permits the Will of the Father to be done on earth, under the Direction of the Son, through the Power of the Holy Ghost, that the silver cord has meaning in all phases of life and the golden bowl is a reality and the pitcher at the fountain has meaning, and we have something besides stagnant, putrid water in the cistern of the subconscious mind. The wheel at the cistern is the machinery of thinking. If all it can touch is the stagnant, putrid water of the subconscious mind it cannot produce life in the true sense. Only when the pitcher at the fountain, the inspiration of the spirit direct from the Father, direct to the level of the conscious mind, has a relationship to that which comes up out of the subconscious mind, so that there is a meeting point in the conscious mind, can the inspiration be meaningful. Only then can the individual keep clear from a thousand and one irrational concepts and ideas which so many begin to develop when they start along what they conceive to be a spiritual path, because they are not truly responsive to the Father but they have certain ideas about the Father. They draw out of their own putrid cistern certain ideas, and rationalization sets in, the ego begins to satisfy itself, and a concept develops which actually has no relationship to the truth. Very often these concepts stand in the way of any true fulfilment. Yet the individual will swear, “The Father revealed that to me,” and it is not so. There may be some aspects of truth in it but it is not the revelation of the truth.

Let the Will of the Father be done in your earth, under the Direction of the Son, through the Power of the Holy Ghost, here and now. So shall you live. So shall you begin to know what it means to share in the victory of the living Christ. Heavenly Father, we thank Thee for the holy privilege we have of yielding to Thee, that we may be with one accord forgiven of all those things which have been contrary to Thee in this Thy unit Body on earth, that repenting and yielding and being forgiven, the former things may pass away until they shall not be remembered nor come into mind. “For, behold, I create all things new.”

Turning back to the darkness and the fleshpots of Egypt prevents fulfilment. Once the individual goes through the process of clearing, he must forget as rapidly as possible the ill things of the past. He must not let his mind dwell upon them. He must deliberately let his mind turn attention away from them, else they shall return and his state shall be seven times worse than it was before. Once there is the cleansing, once there is the purification, so that the yielded soul turns its face, naked and unashamed, with a true sense of its nothingness, to the Father, the former things must be allowed to pass away. They must not be remembered nor allowed to come into mind. Otherwise the space essential to the creation of new things is reoccupied by the old.

“Behold, I create all things new. Let the former things pass away.” Only as there is true repentance, which allows the clearing of every guilt complex and every sense of shame, can the subconscious mind of your being be persuaded to turn its face to the Father, that the Will of the Father may be done on earth as it is in heaven. Let the former things pass away. They shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. Center on the things of God and remember: Behold, I create all things new.

Peace be unto you as you let the Will of the Father be done on earth, under the Direction of the Son, through the Power of the Holy Ghost. Peace be unto you. It has been a holy joy to share this hour with you. As you abide in the spirit of this hour you can let wonderful things work out in yourselves, but only obedience to the Law, to love God first, can keep your minds so centered that the victory of the mind that was in Christ Jesus may be established over the subconscious ghost of your own being. Otherwise that which rises up from within your own subconscious realm will take control and you will deny and betray the Father and spoil the pattern. Remain true and centered, that you may live and not die. Let the victory be real, that it may have meaning here on earth. That victory that allows a bare slipping by at the moment of death is a poor and puny thing. Let us live on earth to the glory of God and the blessing of our brother man.

In the stillness of the human mind you begin to recognize and realize the meaning of the words, “The Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.” “Be still, and know that I AM God.” In quietness of spirit, abiding centered, we can let the cleansing take place so easily and swiftly. It must be real but the Lord loves to make it as painless as possible. Only those who trust and stay centered can know what it is to be made every whit whole by the healing power of God working in body and mind and heart, to the depths of one's being. In stillness before the Lord we begin to know Him as He is. God bless you.

Creative Pulsations

discerning  and  working  with

Creative  Pulsations

Martin Cecil   February 13, 1977

We are here present once again in this beautiful building to offer a vessel into the hands of the LORD, that He may pour out that blessing which pleases Him this morning. The outpouring of blessing relates obviously to the action phase of the One Law. We speak of radiation. We may participate in this creative process to the extent that we have an awareness of the oneness of radiation and response, the oneness of heaven and earth. Obviously there could be no radiation in the immediate sense of our experience if there was not response present also. Radiation and response are one.

However in the creative cycle there are pulsations, pulsations somewhat analogous to the beating of the heart. There are times when the action phase of the One Law is dominant and there are other times when the reaction phase is dominant. In between there is a period of rest. Participating as we are in a service here this morning, we may recognize that the action phase should be dominant. We are here to let love radiate. Later there will be a dominance of the reaction phase of the One Law. We may see this particular cycle as relating to the period of a week, but also of course there are other cycles at work, each of them including the dominance of each aspect at the appointed times. Gradually, as one learns to discern what is actually happening in the field of our responsibility as sons and daughters of God, we may be in position to distinguish the various cycles that are occurring within the range of our own experience, so that we function intelligently in relationship to these things rather than being swept this way and that by our judgments of the appearance of events.

So we have this morning another opportunity to let the LORD pour out a blessing because we become aware of the dominance of the action phase of the One Law at work in our own experience. We may participate in this. The blessing is to be poured out, to go forth. We are assembled here presumably in a consciousness of the truth—namely the sons and daughters of God. There was a time—there is a time—when the sons and daughters of God come to present themselves before the LORD. In this collective sense this is exactly what we should be doing now. We are assembled here to present ourselves before the LORD, but as it was at the time of Job, no doubt satan comes also among us. We can identify satan by using the words human nature. Human nature is still present in this room—you all recognize this, and not merely because you notice it in someone else! But the real point is that the sons and daughters of God come to present themselves before the LORD. We're not too interested in satan, rightly; we're not going to pay too much attention to him except as it may be necessary to let him be cleared out of the way so that the blessing of the LORD may be poured out by reason of the presence of the sons and the daughters of God. In virtually all human experience in the world the way it is now the blessing of the sons and daughters of God is obscured by satan, by the fact of human nature dominant and in control, so that what comes forth through human beings is a very distorted, limited, restricted thing. It is not for the most part the blessing of the LORD.

If we begin to have a consciousness of the truth as it relates to us, so that we are aware of being present here this morning as sons and daughters of God even though there may be some human nature hanging around, then gradually there may be an intensification of this experience of radiation. I mentioned before the matter of pulsation. There is a high point when the action phase of the One Law is dominant. And this high point may be seen in relationship to our service times together, but it doesn't immediately appear the moment we move into a service on a Sunday morning such as this for instance. There is a gradual intensification, a building up, so that there may be an increased awareness of participating in the action phase of the One Law on the part of all concerned. This may not be identified as an awareness of being a son or a daughter of God, because when you participate in true radiation you forget yourself. To the extent that you have forgotten yourself in human nature you are the expression of angelic nature, or that of a son or a daughter of God. And so in a service, if we are participating in providing a vessel in the hands of the LORD, we find that there is a buildup to the point where the action phase of the One Law is obviously dominant. We forget ourselves and we move with what is moving. We are to share this experience this morning, that through the vessel which we offer, being in the hands of the LORD, a fitting blessing to this occasion may be poured out.

As this buildup occurs satan tends to recede into the background; human nature begins to be dissipated in the immediate experience of those who are participating in the buildup. However, obviously, to the extent that human nature is present in a person what occurs by reason of that person will be somewhat conditioned by the particular quality of human nature that may still remain, so that what goes forth of the blessing of the LORD is conditioned by this to some extent. And consequently it will tend to connect up with that pattern of human nature which may be present in other people in the body of mankind. The Word of the LORD goes forth to accomplish that which He pleases but the LORD necessarily has to utilize whatever is available to accomplish whatever may be possible on this basis. He is not blind to the fact of continuing human nature; however, seeing that there are those who begin to have a consciousness of the truth with respect to themselves, there is at least a starting point for actual radiation. And even though that radiation may be conditioned by human nature it is still an outpouring of blessing offered into the world.

Just as there is a dominant time with respect to the action phase of the One Law, there is also a dominant time with respect to the reaction phase. This is likely to occur later. If we really participate in the action phase now, then the reaction phase will put in an appearance with respect to the momentary factors that are present in our daily living. What goes forth goes forth through all who are now present. What returns returns through all who are now present. And what returns will come on the basis of the conditioning which was present when it went forth. This is something that is not usually recognized when the returning aspect of the matter puts in an appearance. The individual may be inclined to say, “Why does this have to happen to me? Why is there always this seeming repetition?” This is so because the human nature conditioning that is present in the individual has not yet been allowed to be dissolved, so the human nature seal is placed upon the radiation that goes forth and it will be present with respect to what comes back.

There is seldom recognition that the individual himself determined what it was that was going to come back, because what it is that goes forth of the blessing of the LORD will inevitably be conditioned by whatever of human nature is still present in a person. You can't just set it out on one side and say, “Well all that is going forth through me now in this service is going to be pure and perfect,” because you are there—and heaven and earth are one. The radiation-response reveals unification, so that whatever is present is present and will be a conditioning factor with respect to radiation, and therefore will be an evident factor with respect to what comes back later. If you have an awareness of this as a son or a daughter of God you are naturally willing to accept the situation as it is.

Human beings tend to rebel against things the way they are, thinking that they should be some other way. Maybe they should, but they are not. The point is, things are the way they are and a real person will accept what is really so without attempting to imagine it into some different state of affairs. So, as a son or a daughter of God there is the attitude of accepting things the way they are. And if satan happens to be present still, well that's part of the picture. In the story of Job, the LORD didn't ignore satan. The first thing He did was ask satan a question: “Whence comest thou?” And the answer was, “From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.” This is a very good portrayal of the way human nature fills human experience the world around. That's the way it is. And if we find ourselves conditioned by human nature, where does it come from? It comes from the state of mankind of which we are a part. So there is a recognition of this fact and from the divine standpoint it is taken and used to advantage. It is useless to try to work with something that isn't so. The only thing to do is to work with what is so. Human nature is so. And it is so with respect to ourselves as well as everybody else.

So we recognize that there is some conditioning of what is released in radiation when that aspect of the working of the Law is dominant, perhaps at a time such as this. Because the conditioning is thus and so according to the individual state, what goes forth, having activated whatever it should activate in the body of mankind, will return; it will return through the same person through whom it went out. So it comes back to you. They say that chickens come home to roost. Well we're happy to let the chickens come home to roost—maybe they will lay an egg! The point is that when they come home to roost we use the situation to advantage because we see what it is. Most people don't see what it is because they are all wrapped up in the appearance of things. The circumstance which arises in the individual experience is looked at simply as a circumstance all on its own and then it is judged accordingly: I don't like this circumstance, or I do like that circumstance.

We were considering this matter from the standpoint of appreciation. Whatever it is that comes back in this creative cycle needs to be appreciated for what it is, not objected to for what it isn't. It isn't merely the appearance of a circumstance; it is actually the returning aspect of the creative cycle in which one had before been participating. We need to see it as that. Then we can accept it, receive it with appreciation because it gives us an opportunity to let something clear in the matter so that what we bring back to the LORD in the completion of that cycle is as pure as it was when it went out from Him.

All too often this is not what happens. The individual reverts into his old human nature habits, so that this distorted thing is what is offered to the LORD. When this is done, of course, that human nature trait in the individual is reemphasized and is still present when the next occasion of radiation occurs. So it will go forth again, conditioned by the same thing, and it will come back conditioned by the same thing, until the individual receives it in the way it should be received. A lot of people have complained about this matter of repetition—the same things always seem to happen. “Why does it have to happen to me?” Well, because of you! For no other reason. No one has it in for you. Each person determines what his own experience shall be. And when we begin to take responsibility in the matter, recognizing that it is so, then we may behave as sons and daughters of God. We behave as sons and daughters of God insofar as the blessing that goes forth is concerned and we behave as the sons and daughters of God insofar as what comes back is concerned. Something rises up in our experience. How are we going to handle it? First of all we need to have an attitude of appreciation that it is rising up so that we may handle it. If it didn't put in an appearance we couldn't handle it. And if we couldn't handle it, let it be cleared, it would be there forever. So there is an attitude of willingness in a son or a daughter of God to receive what comes back.

There is delight to receive it because here is an opportunity to let the particular human nature conditioning that is being presented be cleared in one's own experience. And if it is cleared in your own experience the impulse of clearing then may be released insofar as others are concerned as the cycle continues to move. But if it isn't cleared you behave in the same old human nature way when the circumstance arises. Then the next time you participate in the action phase of the One Law the radiation released through you will emphasize again the same thing insofar as those in the world for whom you are responsible are concerned. You just hold people thereby in their trapped condition.

I have many times in the past pointed to the Master as a vivid example of the right way to handle such things, because certainly what ultimately came back to Him because of His acceptance of the responsibility of clearing it was far greater than is likely to come back to any of the rest of us. He accepted what came. He didn't complain about it, He didn't object to it. He had an attitude of appreciation, actually, for the opportunity that it provided to Him; not an opportunity that He needed in a personal sense—He could have well done without it in a personal sense—but because it provided Him with the means of extending a blessing absolutely clear insofar as the rest of mankind was concerned. He did this. He let it clear in Himself, and of course the evidence appeared with respect to His own experience. He undertook that, not for Himself—there was no necessity—but for the rest of humanity.

And basically that is what we do. We do not have the same position of Supreme Focus as He did but we all have our worlds for which we are responsible. And we are in position therefore to do exactly the same thing that He did, according to our respective fields of responsibility. These fields of responsibility are differentiations of His field of responsibility, which included them all. So that was a really tough thing insofar as He was concerned. But insofar as we are concerned, particularly as He has provided the focus for the clearing, it isn't really anything—the yoke is easy and the burden is light. But we need to see how the creative process operates.

Now we've been looking at it particularly with respect to what comes to focus in a service, by means of which the blessing of the LORD may be released, and then what comes back in consequence of that release. If it goes forth through all of us it comes back through all of us. And individually we have a responsibility with respect to whatever it is that comes back, because what comes back is an exact indication of what it was that went forth from us. However, it is in the returning cycle that we have the opportunity of letting something be cleared, not only for ourselves but for all those through whom this creative cycle moved as it went forth into the world. When we begin to see this as it really is, we are sharing the outlook of a son or a daughter of God and we're no longer hung up in the appearance of things. You can look at the appearance of things and try to figure it out, judge this way or that, feel justified in your judgments, but that is all nonsense; it is just a surface play, not what is really happening at all. As sons and daughters of God we begin to see what is really happening and we work with what is really happening. That is the intelligent thing to do, after all. To try to work with something that isn't really happening is futile in the end.

So we have the opportunity of participating in these creative cycles. We've taken a look at one particular one because it is rather central to our experience, but there are many others which for the most part are not noticed now. If we can begin to notice this one then it can open a door to our observation of some of the others. But it is not just a matter of noticing it while I am talking about it here in the Chapel. That's perhaps easy to see—you may nod your heads in agreement—but you notice it in its other ramifications, particularly with respect to the returning aspect of the cycle, because it is going to come back for sure!

This is nothing to be afraid of. There used to be a certain amount of trepidation in this regard whenever there was a buildup in a service so that there was a more intense radiation. There was a certain trepidation about what was going to come back later and hit everybody concerned. There was perhaps a more violent experience in that regard in days gone by than there is now because those concerned didn't really know how to handle it then. Now we begin to come into position where we can handle it, where we know what we are doing, where we know what is happening and where we can allow our angelic intelligence as sons and daughters of God to take precedence over our stupid human reactions; because it is the human reactions that perpetuate the human nature conditionings present in ourselves. When we are willing to let these be cleared in ourselves the clearing is not then limited to us. The opportunity is extended to others, whether they are consciously aware of it or not.

I'm sure that all of you have noted, as things have been continuing to unfold, changes in other people with whom we may have some association or relatedness in some way, without their being particularly conscious of what it is that is really happening. We find this occurring perhaps in the field of earthly relatives. They change their attitude. It's amazing, isn't it? We find a greater sense of true relatedness in that earthly pattern, because things change. And the things that change change with respect to us individually and the field of responsibility that is around us. Our earthly relatives are included in that field. A lot of people have tried to escape their relatives one way or another, but we have a responsibility, whether we like it or not, because we have the connection. And we have similar human nature conditionings, incidentally, in ourselves. That makes the connection useful. Because we handle what is in us we are at the same time handling what is in them. And because something is being handled in them, when they put in an appearance on the scene we suddenly find, “Oh they've changed, haven't they?” Oh they changed, but you changed first! We're not waiting for somebody else to change; we let the change come here in ourselves first because we take responsibility for it. We understand what is happening. And being present as a son or a daughter of God we do not follow out the same ruts of human nature reactions anymore. We are delighted to have the opportunity which the rut presents but we're not going to walk in it anymore. And when we don't, that clears the thing. When we behave as a son or a daughter of God there is something clear, obviously. Our behavior in that respect will no longer be conditioned by the human nature aberration.

So let us awaken to the reality of these creative cycles that are at work. They have always been at work but we and others have been blind to them. And we have not accepted the opportunity which they present, chiefly because there has been fear: “That which I feared has come upon me.” Well of course we see why! But being identified in angelic nature, we are no longer afraid of these things; we welcome them—“Here at last I'm in position to see how I can handle this and let it clear.” Then it's gone!

So I rejoice in this opportunity we have this morning to participate in the release of the LORD's blessing in this particular fashion. What goes forth, even though it may still be conditioned somewhat by human nature, will be coming back later, and we are looking for the day! Just let it come and we'll handle it; we'll deal with it as sons and daughters of God and clear it out of the way, so that increasingly what goes forth of the blessing of the Lord may be pure and perfect, opening the door for the experience of what is pure and perfect insofar as all who are moved by the radiation are concerned.

If we see the way it works we can see how very quickly changes can come. They have been rather slow heretofore because we ourselves have been so slow to let changes come in our own experience. We have continued to follow out the human nature ruts and so all we have offered back to those for whom we are responsible are the same ruts a little deeper. But now, as we let the ruts be cleared, filled in perhaps, then what is offered back is certainly an improvement, if nothing else, on what was extended before. We can see that if we actually let the clearing come with respect to some human nature pattern within ourselves, then the opportunity is wide open for that to happen in others; not just an improvement but something perfect, right off the bat. But if we plod along, letting a little change come here, a little change there, we may run out of life before it is all done, and everything is very slow in our fields of responsibility. But if we let the changes in us come quickly, then the changes come quickly there.

Here is the true meaning of our lives. We can begin to see what it is that is happening, rather than merely judge by the surface appearance of things. And playing our part, all things work together to perfection. This is what it means. All things are made new, to the Glory of God. Those words have been used over and over: to the Glory of God. What do they mean? Glory relates to life, we recognize. When we function as we should it is always to the Glory of God, because the life that is inherent in God is magnified in expression on earth where we are. The Glory of God is made known; the Life of God is made known in the world. The only reason for our existence is to let the Life of God be made known on earth. And if this is our reason for being here, then everything we do is to the Glory of God; everything we do reveals the increased expression of the Life of God on earth. How quickly the end may come, the end of human nature and the end of all reflections of human nature that come back to us out of the environment! Let us accept the responsibility in our living, moving easily in the creative cycles as they unfold pulsation upon pulsation within our continuing experience.

His Choosing His Sending His Body His Spirit

His Choosing  His Sending

Martin Exeter   July 27, 1977

There is something new emerging—an angel who is going to take charge of you as you have thought yourself to be in the external sense. So as charge is taken, you find that what you thought yourself to be has been dissipated to that extent and what has taken charge is what you are, because that is what you are expressing—and you are what you express, fundamentally. It is not what you take into your belly; it is what comes out of you that gives you value and meaning, and gives you a sense of self. Most people try to gain a sense of self by stuffing themselves and they may have the experience of a big, bloated condition, whether physical or mental, but it is not the truth, not what the individual really is. What you really are is what is expressed by you out of your heavenly heredity, and when it is expressed you know that—that is what you are. If it is not expressed you do not know it and no amount of information will cause you to know it.

As you abide in the tone of life, the design of life becomes apparent and you know what you need to know in the moment, as if by magic. You are not depending anymore upon the information which was seemingly usable by your human ego in times past. There are those who have been functioning on this basis, who suddenly begin to find that what used to work does not work anymore. And they are left desolate until they say, “Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.” Blessed is the One of heavenly heredity who finds expression. Then you begin to know the truth of yourself, amongst other things. But you are not self-centered—you are not peering around to see if you can see yourself somehow. You can’t. There is no way by which you can see yourself. Anything that you can see is not you. All we need to do is to be ourselves in expression. That is all that is necessary. Somebody else may see us. That is their good fortune, we trust.

I can say in this moment, “I have yet many other things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them until you do a little more living”—and in any case, all that is necessary is present for each one. You stay home and the world comes to you. From the standpoint of angelic consciousness, you are waiting for the world. You are waiting for human beings to come home. You do not sit around on your backside, hopefully expecting them to come home. The waiting is waiting upon the Lord so that you might be in position to offer what is needful as the world passes by you, which it will, and out of that which passes by will come elements of response that can be brought home. This is your greatest joy.

You also know that there are elements present that are going to pass on by. Seeing that the creative movement is a spiral, maybe some of those elements that pass by once will come around again. It is interesting to observe that on occasion. Never try to hold on to anyone. Let them pass on by if that is what they are doing. Do not run after them—if you do, you leave your place where you belong, because you do not belong running after people. The Lord never ran after anyone. The Lord just holds the door open for those who will come through, and He offers help in that regard. But a person who is moving away, let him move away. Your welcome is to those who will not detract from your lightness. So we stand where we belong, in the moment, allowing the birth of whatever it is that should appear in the moment, whether it is in a word or an action. We begin to discover what it is that complements the spirit which we express.

All learning is self‑learning—one is never taught anything by somebody else. We learn through our own experience. This is the education in which we are properly interested. It is a giving forth. You can't really learn anything that is of any value without your own expression in living. Unless the person lets it find expression in his own living he has learned nothing. So be willing to learn as you go. You will find that you actually know a lot that you didn't think you knew. And when you speak, you learn just as much as anybody else. The spirit of truth in expression through you is living and serving. It enables you to handle everything that is present with you at all levels and in all departments. That is not a clear‑cut thing right off the bat, but gradually it emerges. As it does so, you know it and you are not just swallowing something that someone else said. Let what is of the spirit of truth move through you, and in your experience of living, and you will find that all that is necessary is present. Do not imagine that we all have to know everything. You can think of many specific fields where you have not developed too great an understanding as yet, and perhaps in some of the fields you do not need to.

Let's not become structured in our view of the way things should be handled. Let us be open so that we can let it move in whatever way it should. There is fluidity in our experience and in what we offer others. Nothing is set. Various aspects of the world will be coming to you, will be presented to you, as the opportunity for offering what is right and fitting out of the holy place. You stay in the holy place—you stay home. What a wonderful thing to stay home and be anywhere.

You are being sent, in the sense that you came into the world, but you are here now. “And he shall send his angels.” We begin to realize what that means in relationship to our own experience. We have been sent. We are here. And we gratefully accepted the opportunity of being here, the privilege above all privileges, of serving the LORD in these special days. There have been angels who have come on earth and found themselves able to emerge to some extent through human consciousness in days gone by, and we read about some of them in the Bible. They were always looking toward something that was not yet in point insofar as they were concerned. Except on the occasion when the Master was present, nothing ever finally did come to point. It did come to point insofar as He was concerned, but nobody else seemed to know it. He was there and He could have done what needed to be done if anyone else had been willing that it should.

Now in these days, toward which it may be said that all the prophets of old looked, we have the privilege of actually being here. Of course we may have been back there too, and those times may have seemed to be a little more discouraging than the way things are now, yet most people see discouragement wherever they look. But this is the fulfilment—and we are here to make sure that it is. And if we were chosen to be here at this time, are we going to impute a wrong choice to the Lord by saying, “Oh no, not me, Lord.”

Somebody said, “Why me?” Who else? Who else begins to understand? Who else begins to share the consciousness of the angel? We know why we are here. “And he shall send his angels”—He has sent His angels—“with the great sound of a trumpet.” The tone is sounding loud and clear for increasing numbers, the great sound of a trumpet—Gabriel's trump. Human beings have been anticipating this—something to do with the second coming of Christ, cocking their ears for the sound. But it is here! There are not too many hear it, but increasingly there are those who do hear it without realizing that they are hearing it. We hear it and realize that we hear it, and we can invite others to share that realization.

I am sure that many things have been said to you that you had not heard before, but when you did hear you said, “Of course! Yes. I knew that all along; I just couldn't put it into words.” One is aware of many things without having consciously allowed them to come to point as to what they are. You are aware of far more than you think you are aware of, because you have not allowed it to emerge yet into your own expression adequately. But as you do you may say, in one sense, “Oh, how did I know that?” But in another sense you knew it—obviously—because you expressed it. You woke up to it yourself. While you were expressing you woke up to it yourself, in the sense of your human consciousness. Seeing that you have been identifying yourself with the human consciousness heretofore, it emerges into your awareness on this basis; but what it really is, is the expression of the truth of you coming forth into human consciousness.

So the angels have been sent with the great sound of a trumpet. This is a fact now! It is not a futuristic thing insofar as we are concerned. It may be futuristic insofar as many others are concerned, but not to us. “And they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” From one end of the heaven to the other—our field of operations is the heaven. Those who awaken out of their dream state awaken to the heaven, and we are right there. And we find people from one end of the heaven to the other. There is quite a spectrum insofar as the heaven is concerned, and it takes all of us and many more to encompass it.

The elect—whoever they are. You may say, “Well who are the elect?” Let's find out! Don't try to define it with the mind, as though that would mean anything. Let us discover what the truth of the matter is in our own experience because we gather the elect, and when they are gathered, there they are. We know who they are. Gather the elect from the four winds—this has something to do with the creative working of the Four Forces. We will not violate those Forces; we will not violate the working of the Law. It is on this basis that the elect come. They either come on this basis or they don't come at all. It is the only way, and we are here to administer this. We are stewards and administrators—as the angels of God in the flesh on earth—and you find yourselves in this position with such consciousness of it as is now true of you. This is not the ultimate, obviously.

The spiral has been going around, presumably a little higher. There is something new to be known, some participation in a way that wasn't open to you before. Now it is, and the adventure, the delight, of letting this new experience come so occupies the consciousness that the old experience simply vanishes without regret. Human beings spend so much time regretting things. It is so much easier to let everything go when the time comes for it to go, because it leaves ample space for the welcoming of whatever is to come. Fundamentally this happens each moment. We learn to do it in each moment—in the larger wheels of the various cycles we do it just as easily. I trust there is no weeping or wailing or knashing of teeth.

As angels of the Lord you know we have ample time. We don't have to fit everything into a few short years. There is plenty of time. We also realize that there are very specific creative cycles for which we are responsible here on earth, and we are concerned that these should be handled with effectiveness to the Glory of God. In a particular sense, to the Glory of our LORD and KING who chose us—and sent us into the world—and because it was His choosing and His sending we can conceive of no greater honor; no greater honor than to be here now to get the job done. Praise the LORD!

Martin Exeter   May 31, 1987

Here are the words of the King. “I have chosen you to be my body.” Those in whom the substance of mind and heart is free enough to resonate with the love of the King compose His body.

We are the ones who participate in this particular evidence of His body. We are aware, I’m sure, that while in our self-centeredness we may have thought that we chose to be present, we are in fact present only because we have been chosen, because there has been whatever measure of resonant substance in our hearts and minds so that we are here in a very particular and specific sense.

If we still imagine that we chose to be here, we are not here. Only those are really present who have been chosen because the substance of mind and heart was sufficiently resonant to the radiance of love. That is a compulsion which could hardly be resisted. This is the case when the substance of resonance is of sufficient quantity and quality—then we begin to become humble.

We may say, “My mind, my heart, my body are here because they heard the King’s command.” No longer is the attitude taken: “I’m so important and capable that I can choose whether I shall be present or not.” That is human nature speaking, isn’t it? If any such view still persists, to that extent there is an absence of resonant substance, there is what may well be described as a holdout—“I am still going to retain my concept of separation.”

We come physically, mentally and emotionally, because there is the substance which resonates with the radiant love of the King. In all honesty we would never deny that, because if we do we deny the King. If we say, “I’m here of myself, I made the choice,” that is saying, “I’m still a very important human being.”

Body, mind and heart are brought in response to the radiation of the love of our King. And it is the substance of our love, present in mind and heart, that brought us. With this awareness it is so easy to be deeply thankful. If as human beings we still imagine that we are in command and can do as we please, come or not come, we simply fool ourselves and deny the King. So we understand these words: “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit.”

That magnetic power is strong and, in spite of the kicking and squealing, if there was sufficient resonant substance, heart and mind came: they couldn’t help themselves. I’m sure we have reached a point where we are willing to acknowledge that, so there is no more human arrogance which says, “I came of myself. I chose to come.” No, you didn’t. If you think you did, you didn’t come. Only those have come whose resonant substance has been adequate to bring them. If this substance does not prove to be adequate, then that heart and mind haven’t really come.

We come to compose His body on earth. It is His body. It is His spirit. His thinking, His feeling, His action. As human beings we have no input. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you to be my body, ordained to bring forth life and to bring it forth more abundantly. The radiance of the King pouring forth through His body engenders resonance in any substance throughout the body and the consciousness of mankind which is free enough to resonate. One might recognize this as a very foolproof system.
