Unified Radiation — As Angels

The one who stands in this particular position has a part to play, and those who are present sitting in the seats have a part to play. We are here to achieve something not so much from the standpoint of our personal experience, as though we were seeking to attain some individual heights, but more because we forget the personal aspect of the matter and are concerned with what we are here to do together—as a whole in this class and as a whole in this overall body of ministry.
There is nothing properly merely personal. If there are those personal factors which arise in consciousness, or that have been carried around by a person which need rebuking, the rebuke is offered because those things don't belong in the whole, not merely because they don't belong in “me.” And one would not sustain anything in the whole which obviously does not belong there. So, when we offer rebuke we offer it on a much wider basis than the merely personal one. Personal attitudes with respect to anything in such case no longer have any weight. It only begins to achieve something when you see that what is present in you is a part of the whole, and that if you sustain it you are sustaining it for everybody else as well. And in particular you are sustaining it so as to provide a barrier insofar as the expression of the LORD is concerned, by reason of the whole. And if we truly love the LORD and are truly concerned with providing Him with an instrument capable of doing what He needs to do here on earth, then instantly the rebuke becomes effective.
In isolation we are weak. Weakness characterizes the individual all on his own. There may be an appearance of strength but the real strength comes because what is being undertaken is not merely being undertaken by the individual. There is the necessary strength in the whole to do whatever is needed to be done. When you begin to let everything be handled from the standpoint of the whole then we begin to serve, because there are things present individually that relate to what is present in the consciousness of mankind as a whole, and we have no desire to isolate ourselves from the consciousness of mankind as a whole. There is a need for the connection so that what happens in us as individuals may have an impact insofar as the mass consciousness is concerned. So, we no longer object to things that need to be dealt with, but we accept them into our creative field collectively.
Now we have a very specific focus of consciousness provided by all who are present. This enables us to handle many things. If we were to take each of you individually and examine your background and the quality of your earthly heredity and all the factors of influence that have been brought to bear in your existence on earth thus far, we would find a very wide spectrum, wouldn't we? I think it is quite wide enough to encompass all that needs to be encompassed insofar as our purpose together is concerned, because we are no doubt here together very specifically to achieve something definite. We need to come into position where there is a sufficient pattern of experienced agreement so that what is necessary can happen; and it happens on a very definite basis—the One Law. Everything works as it should when the One Law is allowed to find its proper application. We have a proper application here that includes all of us.
Response is something that is very essential, but usually response is thought of as being something separate from that to which the response is given—response on the one hand, radiation on the other. You must have radiation to have response; and so there are these two things. But the fact is that when there is response there is only one thing. We know the way that that has been described: radiation, response, attraction, union, unified radiation. If there is real response it is instantaneous; there isn't a long drawn out cycle—"Well now I'm being attracted. And I'm going to enjoy this period of time, lengthen it out perhaps some.” We allow the response to generate union and unified radiation instantly—together. In this particular situation at the moment I have the responsibility which centers in radiation and you have the responsibility which centers in response. But if we are to achieve anything it is because they are one and because you are sharing in radiation. You are sharing in that radiation to the extent of your response. Where there is real response there is no distinction between the radiation and the response—there is union, it is one thing. It is one thing to be shared in the creative expression essential in the moment.
Now this is something that keeps changing, but the basic way by which there is something achieved is always the same. There is great variety in the achievement but the way it is done is always the same—the working of the One Law. All of you have been to classes before, but we don't want to have a sort of class consciousness carried forward into this situation. There will be moments when you will be standing up here and you will be the point of radiation. There is really the focus of radiation and the focus of response involved here, and whether it is radiation or response it turns out to be unified—one thing. Angels are present to provide what is necessary in either aspect.
I think sometimes the idea has been that angels are always positive—they are always involved with radiation and somebody out there somewhere is going to respond. But the Law works within the angelic state; and we need to let it work there, so that there may be unified positive radiation for the achievement of what is necessary at this point of what we have referred to as the restoration. There is something to be done with respect to the mass consciousness, and it requires what we bring along related to that mass consciousness to connect us up. But still we function as angels. We function from the standpoint of angels who assume whatever role is necessary in the circumstance. Sometimes the role is positive radiation, sometimes it is negative response. But if either role is played correctly it is all found to provide unified radiation. It is all found to extend an impact into the mass consciousness of mankind.
All this requires that our human equipment—I'm speaking from the standpoint of an angel—that our human equipment function in a certain way. It hasn't been accustomed to functioning in this way in the general sense for human beings on earth, but presumably you have been learning to let it function increasingly in the way that it should. The very fact that you have offered yourselves here is an indication that something has been achieved along these lines, because you are responsible for providing what is necessary in this creative process which we are sharing. It a matter of what we are going to do now and what we are going to share in this ever-present moment. We are here to let something be done now. Whatever may be under consideration, let it be under consideration by angels.
Very often, when the angel is on hand and things are under consideration then something crops up that needs to be rebuked one way or another, and the rebuke is offered because we are all moving together as one. If we as an individual hang on to some particular thing that needs to be dissolved then we are hanging this weight around the neck of everybody else. We need to have concern for each other in this regard so that we don't impose anything on anyone, and so that we can move freely in this One Spirit. Yesterday I was mentioning something with respect to what might be called “new thinking.” I am sure that you have had some experience in this regard, where something unfolded in consciousness naturally as you moved along because the spirit was in action.
We are moving together in this creative process on a spiral, moving around an ascending spiral so that we find ourselves coming back over the same point again but at a different level. This will be happening as we move along, because we are not here to strike out in some amazingly new direction. What would be the point? Presumably we have an awareness of the fact that we have been moving as we should have been moving—up to a point at least. So we still move in the same ascending spiral, we still come back over the same points, but at a new level. That drawing power at times may seem like a dragging power, depending where you are looking at it from. If a person is being drawn by it then he is being drawn along with it. But if a person is providing the focus of this drawing power then human consciousness is somewhat sluggish. Consequently, when you are pulling something along there is a drag seemingly. So as we move up the spiral there may be a sense of drag in that way. A sense of drag to us, however, is a sense of being drawn to somebody who is being pulled along by our drag, so we don't object to some sensation of drag at times.
Very often people think they are only really achieving something when everything is so free in the rushing-along role, enjoying the thing so tremendously. Well, there are moments when that happens no doubt, but let us not look askance at the weight which sometimes seems to put in an appearance, because we have a job to do. If you have something to move you must exert a little strength to do it. And if the thing needs to be moved then you are delighted to exert that strength to move it. I mean it is nothing, no great deal. And if you can't move it alone you go and find someone else to help you. Or if you can't find someone else to help you, you get hold of a pry or something and move it that way. Angels are rightly ingenuous. And so there is nothing wrong with this sensation of weight at times, of a drag at times. So often people have objected to this. As angels we recognize that it is part of the creative process; it is part of the way by which we achieve what we are here to do.
We are delighted in the various aspects of experience which put in an appearance as we move along. They put in an appearance because we are moving along. And when they do, well, that's fine. We are moving along together in this creative spiral. So it may be that as we move we will find some recapitulation of various things that you thought you knew before, but seeing them at a new level you find that you really didn't experience them adequately before. I'm sure that you would wish that this time we have together should be used to the greatest possible advantage. In order to do what is required there is the necessity for a freedom of movement mentally speaking; otherwise the drag that we experience will be of our own making and it will drag us down.
The Cause—the Father—of what needs to be brought forth is in a higher realm. I have referred to that as undimensional. It is undimensional from the standpoint of the dimensional realm in which we live. It doesn't seem to be anything—nowhere; but we are interested in letting it be now here. There is something constantly in radiation from the Father. God never ceases to express. We have a fine symbol of that in the Sun of our solar system; there is constant radiation. This is not to say that there are not variations in the radiation, but there is constant radiation so there is something coming down from God out of heaven. This statement is made from the standpoint of the earth—it seems as though there is something coming down from God out of heaven into the earth. To put it a little more accurate way, there is something coming down from God, or out from God, into heaven and out from heaven into the earth. There is more than one step here, but looking up at the Sun you just notice the effulgence of the Sun and it seems like one thing. There is that which is the Sun and there is that which is the radiation of the Sun. They are one thing.

Clear Vision Brings That Which Is Ever New

Our next step in the expanding consciousness which allows correct function in the Kingdom has to do with vision. “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” This statement does not say that unless all the people have perfect vision, in the sense of being able to see the ultimate of all things, the people perish. It only indicates that the body of human beings involved must have a focalization of being where there is vision for the whole. The physical body has two eyes. The function of the fingers is to feel and to grasp and to handle, but not, in the ordinary sense, to see. The body is more than an eye, but the eye is important to the correct function of the body. The Master said, “Let thine eye be single, that thy whole body may be full of light.” The single eye is the ability to perceive spiritually in that range of function and responsibility which is divinely ordained for the individual.
Again it is written, “I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.” The necessity of clear vision is indicated. Where the vision is cloudy, blurred, out of focus, the perception is poor and the individual stumbles along the way; he does not see the beautiful detail revealed in the patterns of truth, nor can he clearly perceive the golden glow of God's love as it manifests through those who let the Law be fulfilled in themselves.
“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Recognizing this principle, we can give it expression in these words: “Where there is true vision, the people live.” In being delivered from the tomb of old world darkness and carried through the Gate into the Kingdom, the individual reveals that his goal is turned from death unto life. Where there is true vision the people live. Again the implications can be expanded. Where there is no true vision the people merely exist until they die; but for those who come into the focus of clear vision there is the movement from existence into life. It is written that “God hath no pleasure in the death of him that dieth.” That is the Word expressed to those who dwell in the old world. The implications for those who have entered the Kingdom is that the LORD our God hath pleasure in the life of those who truly live; and where there is true vision the people live.
Many of the Master's so-called miracles had to do with the healing of physical vision. We recognize that through the selection of individual cases, where the response was sufficient, He initiated cycles of fulfilment for the whole body of responding ones who should come to the day of salvation. As He healed the vision of individuals He revealed His will that those who should follow Him should learn to see with that spiritual vision which allows the reality of life to manifest on earth.
All that you have received in instruction, whether in the spoken or the written word, in the Third Sacred School has directly or indirectly been moving toward the day when your eyes might be opened that you might see, according to the range of reality to which you are called. This point of vision, from the standpoint of this wide range of background, is not new to you and yet, though your vision has cleared much, it is needful to the expression of your life in the Kingdom that you should let your eyes be opened that you may have true vision.
Martin and I were considering this point of vision this morning, opening up and establishing the cycles which might be utilized in helping you to see and know and realize healing for your vision, physically, mentally and spiritually, so that you may perceive something of the working of a higher vision than you yet know. There is a vision higher than you have yet achieved.

Individually and collectively, as members of the Unit within the Gate of the Kingdom, you may well ask the question: “What can I do to allow a hastening of this process by which true vision may be established?” There are many things which you can do. Tonight I would like to touch on a few points. We might ask the question, “Are you satisfied with the present degree of clarity in your own vision?” I think probably, without exception, the answer would be No. If I were then to ask, “What are you doing about it?”, I wonder what your answers would be.
You have a recognition of the need of increased clarity of vision and there are various self-active methods that the individual attempts to use. I have known, within the scope of the students in the Third Sacred School, individuals who came to some statement which they felt they did not understand and so they would stop right there and struggle with it, and try ever so hard to understand it. As a result they invariably lost contact with the true current of expression through the particular lesson involved. If the individual studying the lessons on such a basis comes to a point that is not immediately clear, then he should go on and consider the lesson as a whole. If he lets go in the spirit of the lesson as a whole he will usually find on rereading that the point that seemed to be confusing is perfectly clear. If the point still seems to be beyond comprehension it is almost always the result of some preconceived idea or attitude, some fixity in consciousness, which is coloring the individual's view of the immediate point. A little self-examination in such a case would certainly be in order, and if the individual finds that he is trying to connect up the point with something that he remembers somewhere else, he has a key to what is wrong in his own function. Such efforts to correlate widely separated points almost always lead to confusion. Unless the individual is capable of recognizing the vibratory patterns involved in each case and has seen clearly the specific distinctions as expressed in the exact word, he will only be going round in circles—actually he will not be trying to understand the lesson at all; he will be trying to understand a concept of his own.
Then we have another type of problem. The individual, thus given to superficial examination, reads something and immediately restates it to himself in his own mind according to his own wording—he condenses it for his own convenience, as he thinks; then he focalizes his own condensed rendering in his consciousness and forthwith proceeds to forget what was actually said and undertakes to go forward using his condensed form as a basis of understanding. Such an individual has not learned to think and to see distinctions with exactness. Anyone who thinks he can condense the specific statements of truth as contained in the lessons would be very wise to take great care lest his condensation be a distortion of that which is actually stated.
Then we have another type of problem with respect to clear vision. The individual will be reading some particular passage and some point or other stands out particularly, perhaps with a question mark, and then, being so absorbed in his questioning, he will fail to note the exact wording of the context. What is required is the observation which will permit the individual to see what is actually said. Noting distinctions and exact wordings carefully, develops the ability to see.
Then there is another type: the individual who reads something and immediately thinks, “Well over there in the Bible there is something like this,” or “I read something in some magazine,” or “I saw something in some other teaching”—it doesn't make any difference what it was, Christian Science, Unity, or some other—and he starts trying to correlate the two things as if his understanding of this could be helped by his consideration of that. Such expression is a foolish waste of time and energy because what one has read somewhere else does not provide the key to an understanding of this. There may be proper correlations of information in the mind, and when the vision is clear it may be seen in relationship to a large surface of the whole; but when one looks somewhere else for a key to help the understanding of this, he is asking for trouble and wasting time and energy.
The ability to see, the ability to let go in the currents of vision, comes into manifestation through application and use in the creative current that is operating within the scope of our own service. If you begin to see a point and you immediately think, “Well here is something like that over there,” and your mind starts jumping about to show its brilliance in connecting things up, it will always result in foolishness. This that is here, at any given point, contains within itself the current and the keys to its own understanding. The flitting about of the mind is always evidence that the individual still lacks true vision. The mind can come to rest on a point and move with the current there established in allowing the meditations of reality to have meaning on earth. If you are not satisfied with your present degree of clarity in vision you can make certain that you see clearly that which is immediately available to you. If you are concerned about not being able to see something at a distance before you take care to see that which is at hand, you will never come to the point of true vision.
Even among emissaries, I have wondered sometimes what was in the minds of my hearers when they did not take advantage of opportunity—for instance, after a service—to consider intelligently the points presented. Conversation about other things, perhaps? But I have seen opportunities passed by which would have allowed the action of vision to be increased. What did you see in a service? Could you give a resume of it? Did you ever check yourself to see how accurate your expression is of what you say that someone else said, or what you read somewhere? Did you ever take one of the current lessons, read it over once, and then undertake to tell someone else what was in it—someone who has likewise read it—to check the accuracy of your presentation and if there was a question go back to the lesson itself and see what was said? You may be surprised at the inaccuracy of your own thinking, the inaccuracies of your own perception, because if you bring it out on a basis that can be checked, you may find that the idea you established in mind is not the true expression it was supposed to be.
If there are these inaccuracies in your thinking, in your vision, in what we may call the surface of your consciousness, how do you expect the accuracy, the clarity of your vision to evolve through you in relationship to perceiving things unseen? If you do not perceive truly that which is seen, how can you hope to perceive that which is not to be seen with the physical eyes? Accuracy is vitally important, balance, proper perspective, so that all tangents are avoided. Until you develop accuracy of perception in the range of vision that is now possible to you, how do you hope to increase, or share an increase, in that vision?
I know that you like to talk about other things and think about them, but it seems to me that more time could be given to thinking about, talking about, that which is being presented in the Third Sacred School. We are devoting our lives to this ministry. It is presumably the thing that we are more interested in than anything else. Presumably we want to move forward as rapidly as possible to the point where our ministry in the world can be effective. Do you think sloppy thinking, careless observation, inaccurate translation of idea, will promote that effectiveness of ministry?
We are moving to the point of ministry into the world on an expanded basis. We cannot offer anything beyond that which we ourselves have made manifest in fact in this outer world. If in the membership of the Unit there is a lack of perspective, which tends toward narrowness of vision and attitude, or if there is inaccuracy, carelessness, we are not going to have a manifestation of that clear vision which will help the responding ones to move from the channels that move to death into the channels that move to life. Where there is true vision the people live. That true vision, that clarity of vision, needs to manifest in the Body, and it is through the Body that the larger ministry must manifest.
Where there is true vision there is not fixity of pattern. True vision allows something new, something different, to come into manifestation in our expressions of life each day. It is a laziness of mind which causes individuals to tend to fall into ruts, fixed patterns of saying things, fixed patterns of doing things. System, order, are all right if they are true expressions of reality, but where there is vision one is constantly finding ways and means of improving the manifest pattern of things. One takes care to keep the whole in balance and not to arbitrarily try to inject this or that, but true vision does not grow old and fall into ruts which finally become so deep that the individual cannot see over the top.
In the currents of life, when there is true vision, there is ever a newness. Clear vision does not allow one to jump to conclusions; only poor vision, with lazy minds, allows jumping to conclusions. When you have utilized all of your present opportunities to the fullest, from the standpoint of increase in your clarity of vision, let me know, and it is possible that we can find another step on beyond even that; but we cannot take that next step until the one that is at hand is seen and taken. The necessity for clear vision in the members of the Body cannot be over-emphasized. All kinds of sloppy habits with respect to thinking and observation will have to be corrected before the larger fruits of true vision can appear.
Let the channel in which you would know an increase be activated by the currents now available to you, for that through which the currents of life are not flowing does not grow. Let us let clear vision be made manifest, so that we may be ready to serve effectively, correctly, the responding ones who shall come in season. Peace be unto you as you let your eye be single that your whole body may be full of light.

A Solemn Thought
A Terrible Truth

God is so good to us and He gives us so many rich blessings. One of the greatest blessings is this: that He does not release His blessings too rapidly to us and through us. It is His desire that there should be an increase in the speed with which we allow His blessings to appear, but if He were to release the larger power through us and there should be a break in polarity, what devastation would result! If it were too great a break or took too long to correct, all those who were involved in the break would probably be eliminated. I say this to impress upon you again the great importance of holding true in polarity according to the Law of the Kingdom.
I am forced to consider as to how much I can trust you. I pointed out long ago that I trust no human being as such. Insofar as human beings are concerned, I am perhaps the most skeptical person on earth. I have no faith in human beings who are trying to do anything in their own strength, according to their own wisdom. I trust only those who are learning to trust God. No human being is worthy of trust beyond the degree of his polarity in the Christ Spirit according to the Law of the Kingdom.
God, recognizing this, releases the increase of power and blessing only as human beings prove their ability to abide in true polarity, only as human beings prove that they trust God enough so that they can be trusted. Many, many times the members of this Body have longed or prayed for an increase of blessing, not selfishly but in the conviction that a greater service could be rendered, that needs could be filled, empty vessels caused to overflow. Actually each should remember, “Before they call, I will answer.” God has been fulfilling His promise in this regard all along the way. Before you have ever called He has already answered, to the degree of your ability to receive in a manner that could be trusted.
Even so, sometimes human beings have allowed a change to appear in themselves and proved untrustworthy with respect to the blessings that have been granted to them. Always the devil is seeking to divert the power of God from its constructive purpose to the maintenance of his own kingdom. It is the only source from which he can receive any power whatsoever, for the kingdom of the devil must be maintained by the power of the Kingdom of God. The devil has no other power with which to maintain his kingdom, so he is always seeking to find those who will prove untrustworthy with respect to the blessings that God has granted them, so that he can divert those blessings from their constructive purposes to the purpose of maintaining the kingdom of the prince of darkness.
Every time you break the line, every time you fail to hold true to your polarity, you are serving the devil by releasing the power of God into those channels which maintain the kingdom of darkness. If it is just for a moment at this high a level, the devil dances with glee, because there is so much power given to him with which to seek to destroy those who turn their hearts to God.
It is a solemn thought; it is a terrible truth. Only in polarity, being obedient to the Law of the Kingdom, can we be free of the responsibility of channeling God's power into the purposes of the prince of darkness. Each one is trustworthy only as he or she abides under the Law of the Kingdom in an attitude of true trust toward God.
One of God's greatest blessings is that He refrains from releasing His blessings more rapidly than His children are able to bear them. The responsibility that comes with blessings from God is one which cannot be taken lightly. If the blessings of God are taken selfishly, or human beings attempt to use them for some self-centered purpose, destruction results. The lower the level of the human being the longer it will take for the result of destruction to appear. The higher the level of the human being the more quickly will that destruction be made manifest. Those who are living close to the level of the animal kingdom can abuse their privileges and their blessings, using them destructively, for a considerable period of time before the results appear. Not so with those who have come to the higher planes of being.
When you come into the Kingdom you have come to a point where you are supposed to be trusting God enough so that you can be trusted with increased blessings, and as you abide in the Kingdom, allowing the cleansing power of the spirit to make all things new, your trust in God increases, that you may be trusted with increased blessings. All of those empty vessels which remain within the sphere of our service can be, and will be, shall be, filled according to the progress of the members of the Body in proving that they trust God enough so that they can be trusted with such fulfilment.
Martin Cecil — O Lord God, we thank Thee for Thy trust in us, that we may prove now and always our trust in Thee. Holy Father, we thank Thee for the wonder of Thy love, which releases Thy blessings to and through us as we are prepared to receive them, letting Thy power bring to fulfilment the purposes of Thy will; for we know that Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever, in the Christ.
