Into The Presence Of The Lord

Into  The  Presence  Of  The  Lord

Martin Cecil  June 2, 1974

Some of the saddest words to be found anywhere in all of the world's scriptures are these: “And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord.” This brief passage summarizes the human condition and the reason for it. Cain represents material man, the mankind that inhabits the surface of this planet at the present time. Mankind is out from the presence of the Lord. Every human being is aware of this, either consciously or subconsciously, and all have undertaken to produce some sort of substitute to help assuage the emptiness which the fact of being out from the presence of the Lord produces in human hearts. Man, symbolized by Cain, went out from the presence of the Lord after he had slain Abel, Abel representing spiritual man. Spiritual man was lost to the experience of material man. The brothers belong together. If Abel is absent there is naturally and inevitably a sense of void.

Now, human beings, as I say, have undertaken to fill that void with substitutes of various kinds, but the experience has never been satisfactory — of course not; it is make-believe. Some have felt that the void could be filled by religious means and so a religious approach was made, imagining that somehow this might resurrect Abel, but it never has. Others felt that an intellectual approach would be more profitable, the sense of emptiness perchance could be filled with the substance of knowledge; and while knowledge has certainly been multiplied, the emptiness remains. Then there were those who supposed that material means would be satisfactory, the satisfying of the physical desires in various ways: eating, drinking, sex, the development of a pleasing environment of some kind. But Abel wasn't resurrected; the veil remained thick and impenetrable, with a mysterious and possibly mythical God the other side of it somewhere — and all of this consequent upon what was summarized in that statement: “And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord.” He found himself in a state of isolation.

Human beings everywhere know something of this experience consciously. Each person seems like a little separate entity somehow, necessarily on the defensive. There is a feeling of insignificance and an endeavor to make some sort of significance, a feeling of lack and an endeavor to fill that lack by all these various means. But all this is, in fact, living a lie, living in an unreal condition.

In the story, as it is recorded in the Book of Genesis about Cain and Abel, it seems as though Cain was inevitably banished from any true and satisfactory experience in life, without hope of possible change, possible restoration. This is not, in fact, the case, although there are necessarily cycles which must be allowed to unfold and work out if opportunity for restoration is to come. One cannot arbitrarily expect that at the moment of repentance restoration will be the immediate experience. There is a vast backlog of failure to be cleared; but if it is ever to be cleared it can only be done as there is repentance, a recognition that by none of the methods of men — religious, intellectual, material — can the task be achieved.

It has seemed at times in the past that when a person had established a more or less stable condition, apparently, by having a balance in his own experience with respect to religion and intellectual development and physical satisfaction, here was all that could be expected in human experience. I suppose one example of this was what was current in the so-called Victorian age when the world apparently was a stable place, but underneath was corruption, no matter how good it may have looked on the surface — “full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.” This doesn't mean that in that particular time this was exceptionally the case insofar as human beings were concerned; it has always been so. The human condition is that of uncleanness and corruption: the condition of Cain, who went out from the presence of the Lord.

And human beings know not the Lord. Those who are religiously inclined have engendered within themselves a picture of something or other in which they believe, but it is, fundamentally, a state of imagination. Others who do not look upon themselves as being imaginative in that sense have a different false god, whom they worship just as earnestly, whether that god is in the realm of the human intellect or in the realm of material achievement. And all this corrupt state composes human experience. The Lord is not known; Abel has been lost, and Cain finds himself in a condition that is difficult to bear. He complained a little on that score when he went out from the presence of the Lord; he complained to the Lord that his situation was going to be more than he could bear. Well, he's borne up so far, chiefly by developing substitutes to make himself feel that he is worth more than he actually knows he is; for material man without spiritual man is a husk, and all that human beings on the face of the earth know is the husk state. Husks have something to do with swine.

And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord

He forgot the Lord, except in some blind belief or imagination. Maybe that belief and imagination may have sustained him at times but it didn't acquaint him with the truth. He remained under the thick darkness of the veil, which has obscured his awareness of the reality of spiritual man. He has at times supposed that religious man was spiritual man, but that is certainly not the case; at least not as long as the veil remains. Religious man is very little different from intellectual man or material man, but spiritual man is a reality and may be resurrected into human experience when there is repentance.

So many people take the attitude that they really have nothing much to repent about. The repentance relates to the human state, the state of Cain. When there is repentance there is a starting point for something new to begin to emerge through the veil; the veil begins to thin to this extent. What emerges is the first faint awareness of the reality of spiritual man. All too often this is translated into religious terms, so that the human being gets lost again in the material state of religion, and the reality of spiritual man never has a chance of coming into the range of true experience. Spiritual man is looked upon as being religious man; therefore, “If spiritual man is emerging in my consciousness I must become related somehow to the religious state, the religious condition, within the scope of human experience.” But then there are those who have been disillusioned with respect to religion, so they are inclined to say, “Well, I don't want any of that, so to hell with spiritual man!”

But spiritual man is not religious man. Spiritual man has been, insofar as human experience is concerned, dead, unknown, gone, lost. There is the sense of the blood of Abel crying out from the ground — this longing for something, this sense of void and the endeavor to fill it by establishing relationships with other people and developing satisfying conditions in the environment, or becoming all involved in the religious field, whatever. There are hundreds of thousands of methods that human beings have used to avoid repenting, to try to satisfy themselves. Obviously, if a person tries to satisfy himself he has a sense of not being satisfied. He has a sense of emptiness, so he tries to fill it by his Cain-like methods and in the end he discovers — it may take him a lifetime but in the end he discovers — that it doesn't work. Every human being on the face of the earth has finally discovered that it didn't work — ever since Cain went out from the presence of the Lord. Because there has been such a precedent of failure firmly established does not mean that success or victory is not possible. It merely means that human beings have, for whatever reason, been unwilling to repent; they want to have it their own way.

Obviously, if the trouble results from the fact that Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, then the trouble is resolved when Cain returns to the presence of the Lord. There has been a tendency for human beings to convince themselves that the Lord doesn't really exist, therefore there is nothing to return to. Well, it may seem that way when the veil is as thick as it has been, because nobody could see through it. Therefore, with the human kind of logic, the individual says that nothing exists, just because he can't see it. Well, that’s ridiculous on the face of it! There are lots of things we can't see, and know nothing about, that exist; they simply don't exist for us, perhaps. And Abel hasn't existed for Cain since Cain slew Abel; but insofar as Abel is concerned, he exists!

The logical requirement is that Cain should come into the presence of the Lord, and this requires repentance for those attitudes and actions which have ejected Cain from the presence of the Lord and kept him in that condition. Human beings are inclined to think that this is the natural state. If they are religiously inclined, then presumably it is divine punishment of some kind and we've got to wait around until God decides that He's done enough punishing. Human beings are very reluctant to acknowledge their own responsibility in the matter and to admit that if the state of being out from the presence of the Lord continues it is by reason of their own choice and attitude. There is nothing to stop a person from repenting at any moment and deciding that the human endeavors to satisfy oneself by whatever means — religious, intellectual, material — are not the way. There is no satisfaction on that basis, in actual fact. There may be some self-delusion, and human beings really go for self-delusion; but the true state of man requires Abel as well as Cain, and Abel is not going to be on hand unless he is resurrected — resurrected into the experience of material man, so that spiritual man is known in the experience of material man.

So, to come again into the presence of the Lord, repentance is needful, and repentance is an acknowledgment that nothing in the material state of man can bring human beings into the experience of the truth, the truth of oneself and the truth in the collective sense. No religious effort, no intellectual effort, no physical effort, can bring any true result. Any results which seem to appear are in fact unreal, phony, delusions, because the truth requires the experience of both Cain and Abel, of both material man and spiritual man. Material man cannot come into the presence of the Lord without spiritual man, and spiritual man cannot come into the experience of material man without repentance by material man, without acknowledging that the whole state of material man is corrupt. But still human beings, generation after generation, hopefully decide that it isn't corrupt and that somehow or other they're going to manipulate things religiously, intellectually, physically, to attain a satisfactory state, to experience fulfilment, as it is called. But it never has happened and it never will happen that way.

Spiritual man must be resurrected

Certainly this requires turning toward the Lord, but then the question arises as to who is the Lord? Where is He? How shall we turn in that direction? There have been various doctrines provided in the religious field which are supposed to answer this question, but they don't really. These are all material solutions, which are no solutions at all, for spiritual man is the other side of the veil.

Now, in material man's consciousness, particularly his religious consciousness, this has meant that spiritual man was beyond the grave. Material man had to die in order to come to spiritual man because, of course, material man had a sense of guilt, having slain spiritual man; therefore, spiritual man must be the other side of the grave — this is logic — therefore the only way we could come to spiritual man was to die. Then we'll find ourselves spiritual men and women, or neuter or something, in heaven, wherever that is — a satisfactory delusion to some. Spiritual man is not the other side of the grave; spiritual man is the other side of the veil, and that's quite different. Death, or what human beings see as death, is the end result of going out from the presence of the Lord. Is the end result of going out from the presence of the Lord supposed to bring one into the presence of the Lord? How ridiculous! Spiritual man is the other side of the veil; and the veil, as we have noted, is the impure human heart, which remains impure as long as there is no repentance, as long as the door isn't open so that it could be purified. There is no means of purifying the heart from below the veil.

What is higher is always capable of handling what is lower; what is lower is never capable of handling what is higher. God can handle man but man can't handle God, although he's tried very hard to do it, making demands and requiring God to do this and that through what he calls prayer. It's interesting how human beings make demands upon God. We have this reflected in the attitude of people everywhere these days: they're all making demands upon each other. The lower can't handle the higher; the higher handles the lower. If human hearts are to be purified they are purified by what is higher, not by what is lower; so no religious, intellectual or physical efforts of men can ever purify human hearts. It is the effort to do this that maintains the impurity — it is the arrogant assumption that one is in position to do what is required as the material person. The material person thinks he knows what is best, what should be done.

Spiritual man emerges within the scope of human experience to the extent that the veil thins, and the veil thins to the extent that the real quality of spiritual man is sensed and is not interpreted in religious, intellectual or physical terms, which is what human beings always do. “Well, I sense something of spiritual man; I know what that means.” We have a multiplication, for instance, of Christian denominations on this basis. Somebody senses something filtering through the veil, so to speak, and then proceeds to interpret it according to the concepts of men: “This is what it means.” All the Christian denominations have proliferated on this basis according to the various interpretations of people, which completely obscures the truth and maintains the veil. And while at the initial starting point of some particular denomination some particular person may have sensed something, very shortly it's completely obliterated, and human beings just go along with what has been established, nobody really knowing what it's all about. They swallow the orthodox meal. Some, of course, get indigestion.

Where the attitude of repentance begins to be a reality and the individual no longer thinks he knows, there may be a sensing of the reality of spiritual man. But that first sensing doesn't have any particular form yet; it's a spirit. “Oh, that's a ghost,” is the human interpretation sometimes — and human beings are afraid of ghosts, so let's get it into some sort of a structured form with which we are familiar; then we'll understand what it is. Do you really think so? Then you won't understand what it is; then you will obliterate what it is; you will try to make it into something that it isn't. You need to learn to let the spirit be what it is, and we find that it is capable of emerging. From the standpoint of those who call themselves Christians, they see that that emergence took place through the One called Jesus, but is He to be the only one? If so, it's rather a sad condition for the world. He never implied any such thing. He did provide an example of the reality of spiritual man: in other words, the fact that spiritual man is present and capable of being expressed.

We may move to allow that to occur, but spiritual man is immediately slain if we try to fit spiritual man into material forms, the already established human prejudices — that's what they are — the doctrines of men, the prestructured state of human consciousness. If you try to fit spiritual man into that, you slay spiritual man, and all you have left is a disintegrating corpse; and that is material man separate from spiritual man. We spend our lives disintegrating and we end up disintegrated.

Spiritual man is present and capable of being discerned. The way by which this occurs is not merely an individual matter. Some people try to make it an individual matter, and it certainly does require individual repentance, but the unfoldment of spiritual man in material man's experience is not merely an individual matter. It is an individual matter but not only that; it is also something which occurs collectively speaking. It must occur collectively speaking if it is to occur individually speaking, and it must occur individually speaking if it is to occur collectively speaking. We begin to discover the reality of oneness and that we are not, spiritually speaking, isolated entities; it only seems that way in material consciousness. So, as this purifying of the heart begins to happen it happens collectively speaking as well as individually speaking, and the means by which it happens is of a very specific nature. Human beings are inclined to imagine that somehow it just works on a haphazard basis: “If I pray to the Lord sufficiently He's going to purify my heart; then I'll be home safe.” That's a very self-centered approach, isn't it? That is the approach of material man unconscious of spiritual man. But spiritual man is present and cries out from the ground; there is the longing in human hearts, albeit misinterpreted generation after generation.

So spiritual man is present to be experienced, and he emerges through the facilities of material man. And that emergence provides an example, provides inspiration, provides an open door for those who are willing to repent. This could have occurred when spiritual man was revealed through Jesus, but it didn't, because there was no willingness, really, to repent. Those concerned were always trying to interpret spiritual man into material forms. An example was that inane question that was asked just before the ascension: “Wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” — an attempt to translate the truth of spiritual man into some little pocket of human doctrine. “Wilt Thou now restore the kingdom to Israel? Wilt Thou now restore the kingdom to good Christians? Wilt Thou now restore the kingdom to Roman Catholics? Wilt Thou now restore the kingdom to Jehovah's Witnesses?” No! That's the answer. No! The kingdom belongs to spiritual man, and spiritual man is not religious man, is not intellectual man, is not material man.

Spiritual man is spiritual man, something unknown; but the unknown becomes known as the unknown, exactly as it is, finds material expression without busy minds translating it this way and that, in religious terms, in intellectual terms, or in physical terms, commonly called human desires. And human beings are making demands in this field, aren't they? Oh, my! No, spiritual man is, insofar as material man is concerned, New Man, an unknown quantity, but one who emerges into experience in a very specific way which is initially based in the fact of repentance — without that, no emergence. The state of self-righeousness in human beings completely prevents any emergence of spiritual man, and religion has tended to produce that in people. “I'm a good Christian” — what a self-satisfied expression that sometimes is! Or “He’s a good Christian” — very self-righteous! But where is spiritual  man? Spiritual man, when he was revealed by Jesus on earth, was very quickly rejected by religious man and by intellectual man and by material man — all ganged up together! Of course there are those who blame the Jews and others who blame the Romans and others who blame everybody else; and certainly the job was done by all these people, but it is something that has been done ever since in every generation.

Spiritual man, however, does emerge into expression through material man when material man has repented and is not trying to impose his doctrines, his concepts, his ideas, his beliefs, upon spiritual man, telling spiritual man, “Well, if you express in this fashion, then I'll accept your expression; if not I won't.” How that crystallized attitude lingers on in people, even when spiritual man begins to emerge: “So far but no further. I'll let you be free in expression to this extent but don't venture into this field; this is my area, this is my personal field of expression. Don't interfere with my thing!” That is slaying Abel.

Spiritual man may emerge when he is offered freedom to do so, and through spiritual man we become acquainted with the Lord, we become aware of the reality which is implied by that word. But for most people, when that word is used, “Lord,” a picture, a concept, an idea, a belief, takes form. “This is the Lord,” the individual says. No, it isn't; it's the human idea about Him. What's the truth? The truth comes through spiritual man. This is exactly what Jesus said on earth, isn't it? “No man cometh unto the Father, but by me,” by spiritual man; no one becomes aware of the truth except in this fashion. No one becomes aware of the truth by sitting under the veil in the religious pocket, or in the intellectual pocket, or in the material pocket, or in all of them put together. It's impossible. That's the state of Cain; that's the state of the murderer; that's the state of human beings in this present condition in the world; that is the state! Very often people's hackles begin to go up when they hear that. “Oh, no, not me, I'm a religious person. I believe in God,” and so the opportunity for repentance is rejected, the truth is rejected, and there are all kinds of justifications for rejecting it. Nowadays people say, “Oh, I'm only doing what's natural.” Nobody does what's natural as long as spiritual man is absent. The whole shooting match is unnatural; it's all a mess. There is a good end of the mess and there is a bad end of the mess, but it's all a mess. “Come out of her, my people!” Come out of that state, the state of self-justification. And human beings find no difficulty at all in justifying themselves in every conceivable way, when only one thing is necessary: to come again into the presence of the Lord.

The presence of the Lord is made known to the extent that spiritual man is made known. As spiritual man begins to be made known, the presence of the Lord begins to be made known. In the initial stage it is something that is simply sensed; but if a person is busy justifying all that he is doing, then there's no facility available to sense anything. “Come out of her, my people,” come again into the presence of the Lord. “Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. Come near unto me. Come unto me.” This is the word of the Lord, the word of spiritual man. That word is heard by a person by reason of the presence of spiritual man in relationship to him- or herself. Material man, male or female, is nothing of him- or herself. The brothers belong together — Cain and Abel — or should we rather say Abel and Cain? This is typical of human expression; it's always backwards: Cain first, then Abel. But Abel is rightly the dominant one, and Cain is also present. It's Abel and Cain, and when both are present, there is man, a living soul.

To find that state there must be love for the Lord and the experience of friendship with the Lord. Human beings are always trying to have friends. Until you know what it means to be a friend of the Lord you have no friends, whatever you may think. When the Lord is the friend, then there is a basis for friendship with those who are friends with the Lord. That's the only way friendship can be experienced. It may be slightly experienced unconsciously by people who function in a way that indicates there is a certain friendship with the Lord, and therefore one may have a sense of relatedness. All too often, however, the sense of relatedness between people is not that; it is a sense of relatedness between aspects of what is unreal, between aspects of material man isolated from the Lord, agreement with respect to disintegration. And human beings are always agreeing on this score, aren't they? Did you ever hear anyone talking about their disintegrations, all the things that have happened that are so terrible? And oh, operations, what about that? Human beings try to go one better, and they find a relatedness with each other on this basis with respect to the things that are disintegrating. They agree, and they think they are friends because of that. That's not friendship, that's enmity; each person is the other person's worst enemy, destroying each other in the name of friendship. Only when there is friendship with the Lord does integration begin to occur and can there be a basis of friendship with others which will not destroy them. Human beings are intent, in the Cain state, on destroying each other and destroying themselves, quite unwittingly most of the time. They don't hesitate to do a certain amount of backbiting; but that, of course, is not really hurting anyone very much. Isn't it? It's hurting the person who indulges in it worst of all; that's true.

So, to come again into the presence of the Lord is the only answer there is. Spiritual man. “I am the way, the truth, and the life” — that is the word of spiritual man; that is the word of Abel. That is your word in oneness with spiritual man. Let it be your word in the expression of your living.

How set and crystallized is the state of material man in the world which we know. How strongly woven is the impenetrable veil, therefore, which separates material man from spiritual man. Only as these crystallizations dissolve can there be sufficient flexibility in the consciousness of human beings to permit the unhindered expression of spiritual man on earth — unhindered, undistorted, uncolored, unchanged. But how quickly people wrap themselves around with these restricting swaddling clothes which inhibit the true expression of life, and where life is inhibited dying occurs. It is all very natural in that sense, and logical; but where life is free the creative cycle works as it should in both its ascending and descending aspects, but what human beings have thought of as death ceases to exist. It only exists in the trapped consciousness of material man. Spiritual man is alive forevermore.

The Mind That Was In Christ Jesus

The  Mind  That  Was  In  Christ  Jesus

Martin Cecil   February 22, 1981  a.m.

How great Thou art, most holy Lord.

With deep humility we bow before Thy throne of majesty, albeit offering our hearts of love to Thee.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of heaven and earth.

Aum-en

I speak this morning to all within the sound of my voice, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. In using these particular words, is there a clear note sounding in your hearts? Or perchance was there a first flush of adverse feeling? You may have been reminded of something out of the past. Possibly these words have seemed like a Christian incantation, yet they convey the truth. If we know the truth then a clear Tone sounds. In the total expression of our living a clear Tone must sound if our purpose for being on earth is to be fulfilled. There can be no shadow of turning, no momentary lapse even. All the influences that arise out of the past can have no more meaning or effect in our experience of the present.

If I speak of the One Law I am sure that all of you imagine that you know what I am talking about. It is true that it is only by reason of the One Law that the restoration of mankind is possible. No doubt we have some ideas with respect to the working of this Law, describable in the first instance as radiation and response. Our understanding of what this means relative to the purpose for which we are here on earth, namely the restoration, must be clear. Radiation correlates in consciousness rightly with the Word—the Word which has been given form in living and in words.

Because there has been factual, focused radiation in this sense by reason of the Word brought to point in expression on earth, the opportunity for human hearts and minds to respond has been made available. This radiation occurs within the range of human consciousness. Human hearts and minds may respond to it—for the most part unconsciously. There have been those along the way, ourselves included, whose hearts and minds reached a point where they became conscious of the form of the radiation. There always has been invisible radiation to which human hearts and minds might respond, and in some measure no doubt did, but it has remained a rather scattered thing which only comes to point when specific focus is given for that radiation in form.

The initial response of heart and mind allows for the experience of thankfulness and delight in what begins to be sensed and perceived. Our own hearts and minds have had this experience along the way. We had opportunity to give expression to that response in various ways, one of them in written form. Response is never outgrown. Obviously so. It is an essential aspect, half, of the working of the Law. We are not interested in preventing the Law from working. Response is never dissolved, but it changes its form.

If we are in position to participate in the radiation within the consciousness of mankind then we need to have a clear awareness of what happens in human minds and hearts when they open in response. We have this clear awareness by reason of personal experience. Perhaps we do need to remember our own experience in this regard so that we are understanding of the experience of others. Human hearts and minds opening in response are moved to thankfulness and delighted appreciation of what has been made available of the Word in form. Response begins to find its centering in that direction rather than toward the externals which before controlled—a changing orientation is occurring in the human heart and the human mind. The form of response is of a particular nature at that point.

In describing what happens in the working of the Law we use the word attraction. Where human minds and hearts respond they are attracted toward the source from whence the Word in form sprang. Instead of responding to all the stimuli which are present in the external world, now response is in another direction, which could be described as upward, thereby lessening response toward externals, so that the human mind and heart are being conditioned into the capability of accommodating  the expression of the spirit of God.

The written word of response changes as the new experience appears. Initially, because everyone starts out by being self-centered, the concern seems to be with one's own troubled state, one's own spiritual progress, hopefully the clearing of internal disturbances of all kinds; the individual is still looking to get something for himself. But as continued attraction occurs self-centeredness begins to recede so that a person need no longer be so filled with self-concern. The attraction is toward union. The union is with the Word. The evidence of increasing union in this regard is known because there is also at the same time an increased sense of closeness with the source from which the Word proceeds. That source has been given a particular form so that there may be an easy sense of closeness in an understandable way—in this instance closeness with me. Union with the Word, when the human heart and mind are accommodating the Word in expression, is, at the same time, union with me, because I do provide and have provided a point of focus in form relative to the Word. But because the individual human mind and heart are now accommodating the Word in that person's own expression we find ourselves in the same place. Our living proceeds from the same source and there is consequently an experience of union known by the heart and mind in an upward direction. This union leads to unified radiation.

YouTube Video

Unified radiation relates to what is experienced in an outward direction. The human mind and heart of all those who are participating in the accommodation of the expression of the spirit of God, of the Word, find themselves associated in that expression—unified in the radiation. There is an increasing perspective of wholeness, an awareness that this which is finding expression of the Word is doing so on the basis of a unified whole. As these various stages, consequent upon response of heart and mind, are experienced the nature of the form of one's response changes. It is the response of the heart and mind, which should never stop responding, but the experience is different because there is more and more of the Word in expression being accommodated by the heart and mind.

As there is movement through these creative stages—attraction, union, unified radiation—what happens at each stage is not left behind, but is, rather, amplified by subsequent changes. Where union with the Word is being experienced, what will likely be prominent in the consciousness of those concerned will be their own individual expression of the Word in the circumstances and situations which are present. Such a state of consciousness will rightly be reflected in what is written, because this is one of the facilities available for speaking the Word. All concerned are rightly interested in speaking the Word, and so every available means to that end is used. This is not to say that a sense of thankfulness has evaporated now. The thankfulness of the initial attractive phase is still there, the delight in the particular forms that the Word takes is still there, but there is also now a sense of personal association with the expression of that Word in one's own immediate environment. This being experienced, there is movement into increased unified radiation, participation with others, and concern in this regard to allow one's own form of expression of the Word to blend with the form of the expression of the Word appearing through others. Here is the unified radiation putting in an appearance.

One must have a larger vision than one's own immediate personal environment to participate in this expanding experience. There comes an awareness of the body of the Son of God, a flesh body on earth, which in the initial awareness of it tends to be restricted in the consciousness of heart and mind to the Emissary ministry. This is seen as being the body. Now a body, any body, is useful by reason of the fact that it has a consciousness, that there is present in that body a heart and mind. It is the fact of the presence of the heart and mind in the body that allows for the unification of the body, so that it becomes a coordinated entity. As the perspective present in human hearts and minds changes and takes in more territory there comes increasingly the realization that the body of the Son of God is not restricted to the Emissary ministry. The Emissary ministry has been very valuable in allowing those who have been associated with it—to the extent of their response—to become consciously aware of what it is that is happening. This relates immediately to the conscious mind.

Now the conscious mind may be a valuable instrument but not in an isolated sense. If the conscious mind was not associated with the subconscious mind it would be a very thin and uninteresting state of affairs. Memory is useful, and memory relates to the subconscious mind. There is much present in the subconscious mind of sundry material which may be useful in the experience of the conscious mind. The conscious mind cannot get along without the subconscious mind. If we consider those who have been associated with the Emissary ministry and have awakened to an understanding and a clarity of outlook, to whatever extent, then here is a representation of the conscious mind of the forming body; but, as we have noted before, there is vastly more subconscious than there is conscious.

The conscious aspect of the mind relates in a particular sense to what has been referred to in times past as the Priesthood, but the Priesthood are not an isolated entity, having existence all on its own, any more than your conscious mind has existence on its own without the rest of you. A part of the awakening process in unified radiation consequent upon continuing response of the heart and mind is an awareness of a much larger context of living than had heretofore been supposed. If we portray this wholeness of mind and heart of the Body of Christ in terms of the Priesthood relating to the conscious mind, then perhaps we might see that the Twelve Tribes would relate to the unconscious mind. On this basis, it would seem that the unconscious mind is twelve times more than the conscious mind. Of course there is no saying exactly as to how many individual human beings might be present in each tribe, but the unconscious mind is vastly more than the conscious mind. The conscious mind is as it should be, and so is the unconscious mind. Let us not try to imagine that the conscious mind is the whole cheese, that the Priesthood is everything. It isn't! It couldn't exist all on its own.

The material that is needful to the proper operation of the conscious mind, when that conscious mind is under the control of the Word in expression, springs from the subconscious mind. In the unfolding process which has been known by those who have been associated with the Emissary ministry this fact has not been adequately appreciated as yet. In a way it has been. People keep sending me articles, for instance, from papers and magazines, or what have you, which give indication that someone has seen something. There is a vast reservoir of all that is really needful contained in the subconscious mind of the body of the Son of God. The material may be somewhat mixed up; it may be in forms presently that cannot be effectively used; but the material is there, and as the forms are allowed to recede in importance the material is freed up so as to be usable by the conscious mind. Those who give form to this conscious aspect of the body of the Son of God are not required to have all the material essential to the operation of that body in their own personal subconscious minds. It's not necessary, because the primary function and activity of the Priesthood relates to this conscious aspect, whereas there is a subconscious aspect associated therewith containing all the material that is needed.

So here we have an emerging portrayal of the truth as it relates to the restoration. The restoration doesn't leave anybody out. All human beings on the face of the earth participate in the mass unconscious, so all have the opportunity of finding association with the heart and the mind, conscious and subconscious, of the body of man, which is the body of the Son of God. It should never be imagined that in our field of responsibility in the conscious sense we can do without the subconscious aspect, which includes vast numbers of people. We see in these days in various ways people everywhere awakening, as we have said. In a sense they are not awakening yet—they are giving evidence of participation in the subconscious aspect of the total mind of the body of the Son of God, and that subconscious aspect being so large has a large content of feeling. There is a lot of heart, and people sense something, feel something, and associate themselves quite easily once there is a true focus of the conscious mind to provide orientation.

Now the conscious mind, of course, all on its own has been the facility which has wreaked so much havoc in the world. Rightly, the mind of the body of the Son of God may be described as “the mind that was in Christ Jesus.” There are two aspects to this mind, as we have seen: the conscious aspect and the subconscious aspect. The conscious aspect is properly the Son aspect, and the subconscious aspect the Holy Ghost aspect. Both form the mind that was in Christ Jesus and the mind that is in the body of the Son of God now. There cannot be a Son, or a Holy Ghost for that matter, without a Father. These words are very excellent in describing the situation.

There must be a source from which the Word proceeds, and the Word must be acceptable to the conscious mind. Of course in the initial stages the Word is seen primarily in terms of words, and in the Emissary ministry there has been an abundance of these offered, printed and otherwise, so that those who were open in mind and heart might receive new understanding. What was understood, to start with at least, would be quite garbled; it certainly wouldn't be the truth. Many allegories have been used to convey something so that changes in understanding might occur. The human mind has a tendency to take hold of these allegories and try to make something out of them.  It gets fastened at the level of the allegory. We have noted this often when I have used ways of conveying something symbolically, and whatever it was that was used tends thereafter to occupy the consciousness of all concerned for some considerable time. But really it was only a momentary thing and should immediately be relinquished. There is a tendency for people to try to resurrect things out of the past and apply them now, as though they would have meaning now, but what is resurrected out of the past wasn't the truth in the first place.  It was merely someone's idea about it, so why drag that forward? Let it pass away, that there may be the experience of what it is that is now in focus. Presumably what is now in focus is encompassed by my Word in the present moment. It might be said, I suppose, that everything else is superfluous.

There is a vast amount of material, as I say, in the subconscious mind of mankind, and this is available for the right use of the conscious mind of mankind, the right use of the Priesthood. This does not mean that we, if we participate in this conscious aspect, pick up all the forms out of the subconscious mind of mankind as though those were going to be useful. It is the material that is useful, not the forms. The forms are to be created by the action of the Father, on the basis of the will of the Father under the direction of the Son by reason of the power of the Holy Ghost, so that what rises up to the level of the conscious mind will be reconstituted. It isn't a raising up of all those old forms, just of the material which can then participate in the bringing forth of the new form of the moment, and this is a momentary experience—moment by moment by moment.

There is in the body of mankind, rightly, the Son consciousness and the Holy Ghost consciousness. The Holy Ghost consciousness is not the Son consciousness, and the Son consciousness is not the Holy Ghost consciousness, but combined they are the mind that was and is in Christ Jesus—the means for creative action on earth. This we have described by using the word Jehovah. Here is a comprehensive view of what the conscious mind needs to know and understand.

Let the note which is sounded in the conscious mind be clear so that there may be unified radiation. Unified radiation relates to the action of the conscious mind relative to the subconscious mind. This action is effective and achieves what is needful when the conscious mind is the Son of the True Father. As was indicated long ago, right here in the Bible, there has been a false father. In other words the things that have been generated in the conscious and subconscious minds of human beings have derived from an untrue source. As heart and mind respond to the true source, on the basis of the facility that is made available for that purpose to bring all things to focus, then there may be the restoration of man: the body of the Son of God, with its heart and mind revealing once again the Son of the true Father and the Holy Ghost.

There is what is coming down from the Father to the conscious mind and there is what is rising up from the subconscious mind. These meet at the level of the conscious mind and there is the means for understanding and creative action.  But it requires the total facility, not just the conscious mind, not just those who have adequately awakened in the Emissary ministry. It requires all others as well, that there may be wholeness. There is no line of demarcation in actual fact between the conscious and the subconscious minds. If we see this in terms of color, one color blends into the next color in the spectrum, and the next color blends into the next color, and so on. There are no arbitrary lines of demarcation.

There are those who reveal the fact of their understanding, their clarity of vision, their sounding of a consistent, clear note in living, and those who are more murky. As the creative process continues by reason of the Word all these things are clarifying themselves. There is the resurrection of the flesh body of the Son of God, but the flesh body isn't resurrected all on its own. What use would that be? A flesh body lying around? Well it was lying around in the tomb. No, it stands upon its feet because there is the unifying consciousness present, an open and yielded mind and heart accommodating the expression of the Father through the Son and the Holy Ghost, and on this basis our purpose and the purpose of all people on the face of the earth—the true purpose—is fulfilled. The restoration occurs, and it is occurring, not by reason of anything that unresponsive human minds and hearts can do but because there is the working of the Creative Word on earth by which all things are made new.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of heaven and earth.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.

The Hub State Of Consciousness

The  Hub  State  Of  Consciousness

Dr. Bill Bahan   January 15, 1982

Edenvale, Aldergrove, B.C.

We come to our final hour. Where did the week go to? The timelessness of time,  right? When one is actually moving with life there is that sense of timelessness. You realize, “Oh yes, that was two weeks ago; time has gone by.

I thought, in this hour, to culminate our week together, we might consider something more pertinent to direct service. We're supposed to be masters—in order to be a master you must be mastered—a master at assisting human beings to have a greater experience of life—little old wine-makers. Now in order for this to take place in our service there is a need to understand various things, to be as wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove. I understand at the beginning of the week Larry use the illustration of the hub, particularly in relationship to the various disciplines in the healing arts, on the various spokes of the hub. I thought we might pick that thread up again in a little different way this morning. [see video for diagrams]

YouTube Video

We have all our various spokes emanating from the hub. Now we might say that the hub symbolizes a true state of consciousness, and a true state of consciousness is when the person can say, in truth, “I am”, and know the truth of that. They might say, “I am love, truth and life.” They know who they are; they're revealing the reality of maturity. In their own experience the creative processes have worked out to the point where their identity has moved from creation, from their capacities of body mind and heart, to the point where they're standing identified with that which stands behind their capacities. I suppose we could call it the fourth dimension; they've emerged out of the outer three dimensions, and they're in the fourth dimension. The fourth dimension, as you know, is the connecting dimension between the outer three and the inner three. So they are in fact the connecting link in their own consciousness, between the invisible and the visible, and in that state they're standing at that hub with a consciousness of life, in position to offer life to anyone who is open and amenable to that offering.

Now in that service we find, from the hub, we find individuals along various spokes. There's an individual here on this spoke, and there's one on that spoke, and there's one over there on that spoke; and here's one over here. And they come in various ways. They might be coming possibly through various disciplines in the healing arts; and we have a chiropractor over here, and an osteopath here, a physician there, and a dentist there, whatever. Or it could be they’re in various religious patterns. We’ve got a Baptist here—southern; you've got a northern Baptist here—actually I think they're further apart; we have a Catholic. In our recent tour of India we found ourselves working with all kinds of different spokes in the religious pattern there. We spoke in the Sikh pattern, the Hindu pattern, the Muslim pattern, and in the Christian pattern too. They’ve got a spoke over there too, a little wobbly, but it's there. But those are all spokes.

The person usually has been hung up in the spoke. Most of these spokes that are present on earth, actually, rather than being a spoke which would allow one to come to the hub, most of them are prisons. They incarcerate the person, or try to anyway. They can't in fact if the person is truly moving, because you'll move out of that particular incarceration. You've found that, I'm sure, in your own experience. There are various things you were probably identified with one time, but as the creative process continued, and you continued with it, you found yourself moving out of it and leaving that behind. It was fine, if it didn't get hung up there; and you kept going, you kept moving so that your movement was towards the hub.

Now, movement towards the hub is consequent upon a person's response. There is a very definite quality to the hub. I suppose, using the words in the Bible: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy strength, with all our mind, with all thy soul. I suppose we could put the word hub there—Thou shalt love the hub—because the hub has a very definite nature. When we say “the hub “ or “ the Lord”, there's a very definite nature to it, right, a very, very specific quality. And a person who's properly responding to the hub, and moving toward the consciousness of being centered in the hub, they're expressing these qualities: joy, forgiveness, peace, patience. assurance. These are all hub qualities, and in a person's response towards that these qualities are increasingly expressed, and as they are expressed the person finds themself moving towards that point.

But I'll clue you. No one can come to that hub without some help. We all need some help. I suppose we could use the word intercessor. We need someone to intercede for us. And when I use the word intercessor, I'm not thinking someone else doing the job for us. You need someone else to assist you in understanding as to what it is it's required to stay with the creative process; and that person, of course, just can't be mouthing words to you. And even the words of that mouthing may be accurate words, but unless that person speaking from the hub, well the words are kind of like a tinkling cymbal. As we were speaking about last night, there isn't the authority, or the force behind them so they penetrate into the subconscious mind of the person. But that help is necessary, and this is what we've been providing here this week, direction, so that one could see what's required. In the break that you were just on, I was speaking to a young lady. She said, “The puzzle is coming together.” That's right. Of course when it comes together you realize you've been the puzzle. That's been the problem. But your mind is more and more understanding what it is it's required.

Now in the hub, this is where true service can be offered. Now that doesn't mean along the spoke we can't offer help. As I look back at my own experience—and I'm sure you can look back at yours—I think we were pretty dangerous along the way. Things that we did. And I think the reason why things worked out is because we're absolutely sincere about it. You know you can be sincerely wrong. But because of our desire to assist another, even though our understanding was quite limited, but because of that there was right motivation—there was a motivation of service. Even though there were limitations in our understanding, it did prove to be a blessing, most of the time.

So with the hub—we need to be there in order to serve. When a person is moving along the spokes they can help a person; they hit someone coming along here, and they can bring them up to here; and the therapist can only bring the person to the point where they're at, that's all. Here's someone, say up here, and they assist this person to come up here. But there are very definite limitations as long as our consciousness is on the spoke, right. You see, we might be able to help someone along a spoke that we're moving. Or possibly we can help someone on an adjacent spoke; we could probably offer service to this. But a person who's on this spoke, trying to offer a service to a person on that spoke, it won't work out; because the hub is in the way. They can't see, really, what that person needs. The hub is in the way. It's only when the process has worked out in our own experience that we're standing in the hub, that in the hub we can begin to see all the spokes. From the hub we can see the spokes. And here's someone that's on this spoke here, and someone that's on that spoke there, and we can move out from the hub and pick them up. We don't stand in isolated splendor in the hub and say, “You come on to me.” No, we go down the spoke. We go down the spoke; and our concern is to offer the person what's required at the particular point in consciousness that they're at.

Now someone who may be along here, and they see you leave the hub and serve someone down there and you do something there they say, “Well what are you doing that with that person for? What are you doing that for? Maybe you might even use mud sometimes; and if you're not afraid of the tubercle bacillus you might use spit. Those were a couple of techniques that were very successful with someone who had a hub consciousness. No, we pick the person up where they're at, and we serve them here, right where they're at; and there's no difficulty leaving the hub to go down the spoke to pick the person up, with the greatest of ease. We move down the spoke and pick it up. It's lots of fun really, because of your functioning from the hub consciousness you know one thing: You're gonna win. You're gonna win.

You're gonna win—that person’s gotta lose. They’re gonna lose the identity they have right there. They're gonna lose that particular place in consciousness so they can keep moving. So there must be a willingness for the person to lose, so that actually they can win. But you have a sense of confidence; you know that what's required will be fulfilled; which will be absolutely determined by that person's response. Now this is something that's very important. We need to see where people are at, so that we can handle them properly. So much dis-service has been offered to people because there have been those who were supposed to have been serving them, who sought to give them something that they weren't ready to receive, they weren't ready to work with, and the person said in essence, “You will like it!” They want to force this thing on them. There’s the story about the little boy scout that came home to the Scout headquarters, and the shirt was all ripped, and his tie was askew, and his eye was black, and the scoutmaster said, “What happened?” And he said, “I was helping a little old lady across the street.” The scoutmaster said, “You were? And you got like that.” And the boy said, “Well she didn’t want to go.” That happens frequently, really. A sense of fitness of things—what it is that this particular person can handle? And we need to have the ability to discern.

And we find out as that ability is developed that there's actually only four categories that people are in. Everyone on the face of the earth falls into one of these four categories. Now we don't have to go around classifying people. If we watch them they'll classify themselves; they'll reveal to you where it is they're at, and no condemnation as to where they're at! But we need to know where they're at, because if you don't know where a person’s at in relationship to what they can receive, particularly, well you can't offer true service. I brought with me this morning a Persian proverb, very pithy, and it tells accurately these four states. And I also had some printed up so that you could have one yourself. I'll go over these four states with you. Remember, this is vital, and you'll find a person along here somewhere, living in one of these four states. Perhaps you're familiar with this Persian proverb:

First: He who knows not, and knows not that he knows not, is asleep. Let him slumber.

Second: He who knows not, and knows that he knows not, is awakening. Be a light unto his dawn.

Third: He who knows, and knows not that he knows, is awake. Teach him.

Fourth, describes the Hub state of consciousness: He who knows, and knows that he knows, is a wise man. Pay heed unto his words.

Now look at this first category. “He who knows not, and knows not that he knows not.” This person doesn't know, but they don't know that they don't know; and that's one of the worst states to be in. It says here, they're asleep. I think they're dead actually. The person doesn't know, but they don't know that they don't know. Maybe they have a lot of education—you'll find that sometimes, and they're very proud of their education—but they don't know! And the light shineth in the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not. They don't understand; they don't know. Nothing can be done with this person. Now that's one you really need to discern. How I've seen those who were seeking to offer service some time, working with one in this state, putting in all kinds of time with them; and it's been an absolute waste of time. You talk about blowing your pneumaplasm; dissipating this wonderful substance! That's one of the ways; trying to offer service—well what's deemed to be service, when the proper conditions aren't there to allow a creative process to work out. Now that doesn't mean that we ignore this type. No, we enfold them, but there usually isn't anything very direct, not much is done. They know not, and they know not that they know not.

The second type: “He who knows not, and knows that he knows not, is awakening.” This person doesn't know, but they know that they don't know. It has been said that saying, “I don't know”, is the beginning of wisdom. Isn’t that wonderful. You don't hear it too much. But the person recognizes that they don't know, they don't understand. There's nothing wrong with that; that's perfect, that's the beginning point: “I don't know.” Good. There's not too much can be done for this person. They know not; they know not that they know not; they don't know and they are willing to admit that they don't know. All that can usually be done for this type of a person is, again, enfoldment. They're asleep, and you know one of the ways to wake a person up when they're sleeping: Turn on the light! Put the shade up! You ever go into a room and you're trying to shake a person, and they still have the shade down. O no, put the shade up, let some light come in. You'll find the person begins to stir around a little bit. It’s the light. Well it's your light; it's the expression of life, the truth of yourself. This is the life. You don't shine it in their eyes either; it's supposed to be on the path. But you let your light shine. And in the shining of that light, the person who's asleep, they begin to stir in their slumber. It's mostly subconscious, anyway.

There's something moving subconsciously between your subconscious and the person's subconscious; and that's something to remember too. Our contact with people, moving from conscious mind to subconscious. Our contact with people is always at this subconscious level. It's from subconscious to subconscious. For instance, you're working with the person; something's going on in their subconscious, or vice-a-twista, something's going on in your subconscious and it begins to move into the subconscious of the other; and then it moves up to that person's conscious mind. That same thing works here; it comes in to one's own subconscious mind and it comes up into their conscious mind. So this is the way it works. It works this way. [see video for diagrams]

Now one of the problems is that with most human beings there has been this relationship with the things that were wrong in the subconscious mind. That's been their basis of problem. This is why you'll hear a person say, “I can't stand that person.” That's really evidence of the fact of what's there in a subconscious mind, because there's something in this person's subconscious mind that’s triggering something in that subconscious mind, and makes them feel uncomfortable. You know what they say, “They can't stand that person.” By the way if there's any person you can't stand, stay there! They’re delivering a real service to you, because they're triggering something in your subconscious mind from their subconscious mind; probably you've never said five words to them. I've seen that; the other person says, “I can't stand that person.” “Did you ever sit down and talk to them? “No, no I haven’t.” There's an interplay here subconscious to subconscious, and it lifts something up. So if a person is disturbing to you, well that's good; that shows that you have something in you they have in them. Now the thing is, we need to have those right things.

In Joe Houlton’s demonstration, he was showing how the water may go down into the subconscious mind, so that that polluted state that's been down there may be clarified, the heart may be purified, the subconscious mind restored to be the receptacle that it was created to be. And when it is wholesome, clear, then we begin to have this tremendous ability to work with other people, without saying anything at this level here [conscious mind] necessarily; not too much talking, but all kinds of stuff going on down here [subconscious mind]. This is good; we got an interplay here; we got an interplay here. And if our subconscious mind is clear—and you won't be in the hub unless it is; only the pure heart come into the hub. Blessed are the pure in heart for they come into the hub. But if a subconscious mind is clear then there is this which is right in our subconscious mind, and it begins to have an influence, a very definite influence; and as long as the person stays in our vicinity, and even if they don't stay in our vicinity, as long as this person has an open attitude, a good feeling towards this person here, who's representing that the hub, and that interplay is always taking place.

This is something that we've been concerned about this week, those of us in the faculty particularly, here, very concerned with having a hookup with you—something right and true, a sense of appreciation towards each other. O, that's wonderful. I look to establish that myself wherever I go. I love these hookups. Because then we have something—and this is particularly true of a doctor who's working with a patient. The patient comes in, they're in the doctor's office ten minutes, and the patient leaves. Out they're gone. Don't you believe it. If you have that consciousness then you're not really serving them. Ninety eight percent of our work is invisible; no it's ninety-nine and nine-tenths, I think. It's invisible. A person comes in to, say, one's office, and you work with them, and probably you're just with them a short time; but that person has an attitude of thankfulness, towards you as this a healer, or whatever you are, and they leave—well you got them on your wire; and consequently, if you’re in the hub, then you are sending out these influences all the time. By the way the word “influence” means “in the flow”, so you are in the flow—there's something going out. And many times that person you're working with may be under stress, and maybe a situation that they’re still harboring down here somewhere, and they're being overwhelmed by this situation, and you've got a contact with them. So back over the vibratory wire you send strength, you spend blessing, you send courage, you send assurance. And that person, they may even think of you. I sometimes suggest that to a person when I know there are a little wobbly: “Think of me. That I'm in agreement you now.” And this situation may look may look like it's a Goliath, but in the David consciousness we can let something into the head of that Goliath that's never entered it before, to deal with that particular situation. So these are all connections that work out.

Now we’re into this category of the third one—and actually these are the type who come to seminars. “He who knows, and knows not that he knows, is awake. Teach him.” This person knows, but they don't know that they know. And that's the way we come; we come not knowing that we know; and when you hear something that's right and true you say, “Yeah, that's right; yeah, that’s the way it is! How do you know?” Because you do know; you do know, but you haven't correlated it yet; you haven't correlated. It needs to be correlated in consciousness; the puzzle needs to have all the pieces if we're going to finish the puzzle. So a person who's moving in this particular classification, one who knows and knows not but they know, there's a humility there, by the way. They're awake, and they can be taught; and that knowing may begin to be focused in that conscious mind, so they may move into that fourth category, of one who knows, and knows that he or she knows. That's a wise person. We need to listen to those people. We need to take advantage of their presence, by the way.

As we read history, there have been those on earth who were in that category, representing the hub, and they haven't been treated very well. They speak of the blood of the prophets. They haven't been treated very well, primarily because there's been such an impurity in the subconscious mind that they couldn't be recognized. There are those sometimes who have spoken of Jesus, and said, “Well I'd know him.” I remember at one time on television this very famous gentleman in religious circles, he was asked if Jesus Christ was on earth how he’d know him; and he said, “O by the nail holes in his hands.” No healing apparently! How would we know? They say it takes one to know one. But those who have represented that hub have not been recognized. In relationship to Jesus, even those we were around him, if you read the story, the record of it, asking inane questions and dumb things, showing a real limitation of understanding. But here we are today, and you and I have the opportunity of representing the hub. But we need to see this very clearly if we're going to serve. And as I say, we don't try to classify people. People reveal themselves. We need to watch; we need to listen. Did you ever notice that you have two ears of one mouth. You know why! Because when we're working with people, if we listen, and we’re alert; we're concerned with blessing and serving them, they'll give us the door, they'll give us the opening, as to how we can make the proper approach, to begin to bring them along to this particular point here at the hub.

Now initially the person doesn't know how to respond to their true center. They don’t know. There are those who say, “Look within.” You do and you're going to get into a lot of trouble, I'll tell you, because when you look within you look into that mess in your subconscious mind, and that's a harum-scarum. That isn't the way it's done. The way it's done is external representation. There needs to be the hub represented external to ourselves, and in response to that, in response to that—there is a response, if it is a true representation, there is a response to the hub. And initially the person will probably personalize it in relationship to you. That’s how many doctors get into trouble with their patients. They personalized the patient's response. “Oh, she loves me.” Yes, you brute! The person personalizes the response. But that representation needs to be there. [see video for diagrams]

Again we might see it on this basis, and also just see it in relationship to the healer, and if they are a true healer it's because they've got that centering above, in life. And here’s the heelee who is begins to respond. They don't know how to respond to that; they don't know how to do it. There needs to be that there, represented at this level here. Let's get it down to earth. That’s been the trouble; they’ve always kept that up there, people are always going to heaven. The last word I've heard from heaven, everything's alright, there’s comparative peace there but it's been a mess on earth, because we've left it up here. We need to get it down here, down at the horizontal level. And here's the healer who represents, he or she represents that point, and this person here responding to this, is responding to that. That's the only way it can work out. If two of you shall agree, then the creative process begins  to work out. I would suggest something here too. As I mentioned, the person at the hub's going win, absolutely; they're going to know the victory, because the victory to them is assisting that person along to the point where they're standing in the hub in consciousness. But you know, the person who's serving from the hub, the cards are stacked, really; everything's in their favor.

Here's the person, we’ll say, representing the hub—and you’ll note that it's one thing, the person is whole. And in the hub, one can say in truth, “The Father and I are one.” Now let's get that down to earth. That seems so mystical. Jesus said, “The Father and I.” What the person is saying in essence is that when I am identified with that which I am, which is life—life and I are the one. Well, that's just the natural state; everyone is one with the Father, everyone is one with life, but the person just hasn't had the consciousness of it. Now in the hub the person has a vivid consciousness of the fact that I am that I am. I am life. I what I am. That's what they know, and they know that they know. That's freedom. They're free, free to express the qualities of life. So here they are in that state of consciousness, and the person they're working with—there’s two there. Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm schizophrenic and so am I. There's a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde pattern; sometimes you'll see Mr. Hyde and sometimes you'll see Dr. Jekyll; you never know just who's going to spring up. There's a pattern of double-mindedness, and you'll find this very prevalent. Did you ever find yourself at peace and at ease, then you find yourself upset and disturbed, that's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

In the person in this hub state, they're the same today yesterday forever—one thing. That quality is always being expressed, regardless of circumstances, regardless of this, regardless of that, there is the revelation of oneness. But when we're working with other people, this is their state. They speak of the little me and the big me, and the little me's always getting away to the big me. Ther propagate this nonsense. They keep that up. Oh that's all right, I suppose, if we're coming along the way here, but if we’re really going to move, that a little me needs to get out of the way. But in serving, that's the case in those we serve.

But we need to remember that if we found that centering in oneness—Ron was morning was mentioning the angel; usually the only time it comes forth is in death, which is a very sad commentary. It needs to come forth while we're living, while we have this facility to express the truth of ourselves; that's life, that's living. So here's one centered in the angel—and you know, angels are always in agreement with each other. Did you know that? That's what makes heaven heaven? You know, usually when they picture angels they're flying around on a cloud, plucking a harp, but that sounds great, can't even play the harp. But angels get along with each other, always get along with you; there's absolute agreement between angels. And the person you're working with, they're not identified with the angel, which is a creator. They're identified with their capacities; this still identify with their body, and their mind, and their emotional realm. That's their identity, out here. Every now and then they touch the angel. But here is someone comes on the scene, coming out of the hub, down a spoke, picking up this person, still in identity here, and there’s absolute agreement between the angel that is present in that person and the angel that's now being represented down here, at the horizontal. A creative cycle is always working out between the angel that’s in expression, and the angel is still being obscured. There’s absolute agreement. And look what those two angels got in the squeeze here—the pressures on, inside and outside. Now this capacity here would be—the person doesn't understand when they're in that identity, they don't understand how to respond to the truth of themselves. It needs to be represented, and when these capacities out here respond to that representation, they're responding to that—no difference. It's one thing. One thing. But a creative process is set up so that when you're working with the person there may be all kinds of gyrations going on here—a person’s going through this and they’re going through that.

Did you ever see a horse trainer just stand in the middle of the ring, and he’s got the rope on the horse; and the horse is running around. And he just stands there letting him run around. And the horse gets all sweated it up. When you're working with people sometimes, still in identity with this unruly “ass”, and they’re running around. Well, if you’re not in the hub you’ll be running around too. “I had a hard day serving.” They're all tuckered out. Well of course! But standing in the hub, as I said, with ease, we move down the spoke to serve. We don't get involved in that. No, it's very easy. We have the time. That's a big thing. This person in this identity doesn't have that much time. There is a time period. But we have the time, and we know if this creative process is working out, and as long as these capacities hang in there—Hey, hang in there baby—as long as they hang in there, and they maintain an open heart, and open response to that one that's providing direction, then the process will work out, because it is response to this; it's a response to the angel; and the process will work out where the person begins to be one person, and all of many heads begin to disappear. There begins to be one person there, the person finds themselves in the hub. But this is a creative process. You can't hurry it either.

I thought that which Ron presented this morning on pneumaplasm was just so beautiful. He touched so many points so quickly. I mean, when we’re moving along you know, we don't have to waste a lot of time with a lot of falderal, and we can come right to center, right to the point of the thing, right to the nub of the situation, so that we don't waste a lot of time with extraneous stuff that isn't important anyway. But there is a creative process, particularly in the pneumaplasmic pattern. And in that first category which was mentioned in the proverb—One who knows not, and who knows not that they know not—their pneumaplasm, you might say, it's pretty thick; it's opaque; it's opaque. And the degree of our understanding things is consequent upon the state of our pneumaplasm because understanding comes in the pneumaplasm. If a person is emotionally upset, by the way, and you try to use logic and reason with them, it doesn't usually work out does it; you have to do something to calm them down, probably a word or two, maybe silence too. But they can't understand anything in that state because their pneumaplasm is all disturbed. To the degree that they begin to calm down then they begin to understand. Now initially, the person's understanding is consequent upon your presence, and the pneumaplasmic pattern that you have. They sometimes, in that state, will say, “Well when I'm with you I understand. When I'm with you I understand. I understood it when I was with you, but when I left you it just became a blur again”—because the person didn't have adequate pneumaplasm to allow a true depth of understanding; and they were understanding in your pneumaplasm.

This is true in class sometimes; in class things become very vivid, but if the person doesn't have enough understanding then there’s kind of a vagueness that sometimes comes because they don't have the substance to understand. So there are those who have this opaque—their pneumaplasm is opaque, they they can't see what's behind, in back of the pneumaplasm which is the truth of the person. They can't see that. As they continue to respond properly, moving along the spoke towards the point of true identity, the pneumaplasm is changing; they're generating the pneumaplasm; they're not dissipating it any longer; there's a finer pneumaplasm. There begins to be a translucency, and now in a translucency you really can't see what's there; it's still a vague thing, it isn't absolutely sharp in your consciousness. But the person in that translucency, there begins to be greater light. Now don't be taken in by this. A person will begin to be very delightful, very light, and probably very easy, and things are going along; and there's a translucency you might say, in the pneumaplasm. The pneumaplasm, which has been an obscuring veil, begins to be translucent; and they, in their own consciousness they're seeing, they’re understanding. I'm saying “seeing.” I'm not speaking a physical seeing. I’m  speaking of mental and emotional understanding. They're beginning to see certain things, but it isn't it isn't defined yet. And this is a very precarious state, because sometimes they can jump to concussions, and think it's this. So this is why one needs to stay humble; stay humble, right; and as we continue in right response, the pneumaplasm is being generated and refined, and there comes a point where there's a transparency so that we begin to accurately, in consciousness, begin to to see and know and understand what it is it's going on.

Now there are various things that may be offered to a person as they're moving along the way, and these are necessary—these are necessary. Sometimes a person having the right material in their subconscious mind, under a particular stress situation, this right material will come up and remind their conscious mind of a particular thing. I was in New York recently, and I had never seen New York in the state that it was in, thousands of cars all over the place; and I was going from an area in New York to Kennedy Airport, which should take twenty minutes, which took me three-and-a-half hours. That will explain what I was working with. Now the situation was saying you're not going get through; and I wanted to get on that airplane because I knew that you were waiting for me, and I wanted to be here with you; and other things too. So I was concerned to get through, and I was with a friend of mine who's a very capable fellow in these situations; he's unrelenting—his name is Lou Rotola. And he was in agreement with me that we were going to get to  that airplane; and he was going up on sidewalks and over medians and everything else; and there was one situation, there was about 20 cars all over the road in front of us, and we're out of the car pushing this one out of the way and pushing that one out of the way; and we made it. I got there and the door of the Air Canada plane was closed; they were getting ready to go, and they opened it for me. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/the-living-design.html]

But along the way there was something I had in my subconscious mind, the 91st Psalm, a beautiful Psalm. Some of the words in the Psalm, “Thy truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” And I use a shield—here's something that offers protection. And when one is moving properly you may be sure that that protection is there; there is a protection; you're not concerned that you're protected, but it's just a natural protection; it comes as a result of right response. But also the buckler is there, and the buckler is the thing that opens the way. And I could see that there was protection; all these cars were slipping all around us; but the buckler was there; we were opening the way, clearing the way. We weren't sitting twiddling our thumbs, we were doing a little pushing, as a matter of fact. But the way was being opened; and that's very true in relationship to our own experience. Sometimes the person is wondering, will this work out or will that work out? Well first of all, we don't get any crystallized concepts as to what should work out. As I emphasized yesterday, we don't know necessarily what they needs to work out; we may have some idea but we don't get to stuck in the idea. But we know one thing, if we're responding properly all things do work together to perfection. The buckler is there. The way will open. And if that centering is maintained we may be sure; and in some situations, other people looking at say, “I can't imagine how the way can open.” That situation when Moses came to the Red Sea here; he had the Red Sea at his back, and here was Pharaoh's horde coming right down upon him. It looked like he didn't have a way out; and all the responding ones around them were so helpful; complaining, “Look at the mess you've got us in now.” But he held it steady; he maintained his integrity, and the thing opened; it opened and he was able to cross over; and the thing that was pursuing, they were down in the water; they were swept out of the way. So the way will open.

And we need this material in our subconscious mind. This is why, this week, we were sitting in this class; and you were delighted to be here; and you were appreciative of what was being offered; and you could see that what was being offered made sense. So that was all put in your filing cabinet; that's all stored, catalogued and indexed in your subconscious mind; and if you attitude in receiving it was right, it was filed properly; and under situations, and your response is right, that material is in the subconscious mind and you'll find it'll come up, and it'll be just the thing that's required under a particular situation. So I'm going to just leave you with a key. And I found this when I was reading a pilots flight manual. I had a brother who was going to take up flying, and I went into his home one time and I was sitting down reading his book, and as I read it I said, “Well look at this!” It's a Student's Pilot Flight Manual put out by the Iowa State University Press, and it's called “Problems and Emergencies”—and the subtitle is, “Getting Lost.”

“If you encounter a problem, it would be most likely that of getting off course or losing checkpoints”—and that's it; the person is moving along, and the yaw factor comes in; then they yaw-off, they deviate from the true course and they need help; or they lose their contact with someone who's providing direction, the checkpoint. The one who's providing direction is just there to say, “Good, you’re moving along fine”—the creative process is working out in your consciousness. “If you encounter a problem that's what it'll be most likely; getting off course or losing checkpoints. Students and even experienced pilots sometimes lose checkpoints, even while on course. This is particularly true on those parts of the trip where checkpoints of sparse or visibility somewhat restricted. Being at a low altitude aggravates the problem. When this happens don't start circling or heading off into what you think might be the new right direction. Maintain the compass heading that you were doing okay with earlier, and try to identify other checkpoints. Pilots have missed a checkpoint and figured they were lost, but by continuing on their original heading found they were right on course, and checkpoints began to show up again. The Federal Aviation Agency suggests the use of the Four C's in such a situation.” Okay, this is something spiritual, divine direction. Here's the first one:

“Confess. Admit to yourself that you have a problem and confess it to the nearest ground station.” This is a toughy for some people. I recall being in a car with a gentleman one time, and he went around a square about 12 times I think; he was lost, but do you think he stopped the car and say, “Hey, how do I get to…?” But O no. He just kept going around because his human ego was there; his human ego said, “I couldn't be lost.” But he was—he was! So confess. If we've got problems or we're off course, confess it to the nearest ground station; that nearest ground station might even know your name. Here's the next one.

“Climb.” Now that's a good one. What do they say about it? “Altitude enables you to see father, and makes the better communications.” Altitude is determined by attitude; you tell me your attitude now tell you your altitude. When you have an attitude which is consistent with the qualities of the hub, well, because you have that attitude you begin to have altitude, you begin to see from above, because you're identified with the qualities which come from above, from a higher vibratory level. You begin to see, and consequently you have altitude because your attitude is consistent with the nature of the hub. And here’s the next one.

“Communicate.” That's a vital one. Ron was speaking about that last night—communicate. “You have a complex system or emergency aid no farther away than your microphone or telephone—communicate.” Stay in communication. Usually people only communicate with you after they've been in trouble, and then then they cry—under the hub—in their troubles. No. Let's be wise; let's keep these lines of communication open, so that we keep this free flow between us all; and sometimes just a letter, it's just so vital, even if it's just one line; we don't have to go into long detail; one line just to keep this thing flowing between us. And the fourth one.

“Comply.” “Do what you're told by the aiding facilities.” Any doctors want to get this printed up for patients? Imagine calling the tower—you're lost, you've confessed, and you're communicating and the tower gives you a particular heading; and you say to the tower, “Well, I don't want to go that way.” Comply, and do what you're told by the aiding facility. Now those are the Four C's put out by the Federal Aviation Commission. I've added a fifth—there's a Fifth C.

“Cruise or Crash”—depending upon how well you follow the first four. Now that's actually very accurate as to what's required to move through this process where we've been on the spoke, to the point where we may be in that category of one who knows and knows that they know. And in that category we can serve; we can serve anyone anywhere. And we delight in variety, we delight in meeting people in various situations, and using our wisdom and our ingenuity to find ways and means to get this person who's stuck, this person who's dying, to get them moving so they may come to the point where they have the experience of life, and life more abundantly.

So I've delighted at what time I've been here to share this time with you. I'm very thankful for those who live here in this beautiful place at Edenvale, who day in and day out are providing an atmosphere here, a healing atmosphere, so that we could have something like this. Do you think if there riots going on here at Edenvale that we could have brought this class here? Not at all, it's because the wonderful ones who live here have been providing this beautiful atmosphere, so that we could come in and we could consider these things; even the things we've considered this week, it couldn't have been done without this wonderful atmosphere and the people here who provide it. So I'm thankful for those, and I'm thankful for these ones that I have the opportunity of serving with. And I'm thankful for you, for your desire to first of all, follow that compulsion that brought you here—you're here in spite of anything your mind may have said. You were jerked here, and you let it work out, and it brought you here so that we may in oneness stand in the hub, and we may take this world in which we live and do with it what should be done with it. Let it be a place of life, a place of joy, so that this sad commentary that we see on earth may finally be resolved—because you and I have a hand in right identity it can resolved. God bless you all.
