The Law Of Resistance
The Law Of Resistance
Uranda July 14, 1937
The earnest one who has chosen to let the will of the LORD be accomplished in and through him by the creative power of the Fire of Love, and has proven to be steadfast and unwavering in the Mystical School of Life, having true faith in the firm foundation of reality, is brought to the point of being, where he may begin to comprehend the wondrous workings of the Law of Resistance as it functions in the Negative Triune World wherein he is manifest.
Such an one knows that in the silence of the outer self the Divine Sounds of the Inner Self begin to sound in the outer. He who ceases speaking the words of carnal mind and lets go in love to his Lord is he who begins to speak the Word of his Lord. He who ceases all self‑activity, in a true response to his Lord, is he in whom the Divine Activity of his Lord begins to appear, and such an one joyously finds that he has more to do than ever before and he rejoices in the realization that every thought, word and deed released through him is sent forth in the creative fires, accomplishing that whereunto they are sent, to the Glory of God.
It is not enough to cease self‑activity, for the responding one lets God‑Activity have free function through himself, that insofar as he is concerned it may truly be said, “The will of our Father is now done in earth as it is in heaven.” For all such there is great rejoicing among the Eternal Ones of the Inner Planes, for these are they who are the windows of heaven, through whom the union of heaven and earth is accomplished. No longer does the blessed one try to get away from the earth and all the natural things therein, but rather does he rejoice that through himself the earth may be lifted up in that Glorious Ascension that blends heaven and earth as one, for that is the New Heaven and the New Earth.
With this vision of the Way of the LORD in the earth, the blessed one may let his attention rest upon the Law of Resistance, that he may relax into a realization of the truths thereof and rejoice in the greater privilege of full harmonization therewith. God‑Activity is the Christ Radiance of Light, Love and Life that issues forth through every expression of the LORD, whether that Lord be incarnated in a human body or not. The Law of such Divine Expression is Love, which is the Creative Fire that brought all things into manifestation; and so it is that the Law of Love becomes the One Law for the responding one who allows God‑Activity to manifest through himself.
The Master, Jesus, as the LORD of Lords, is the central, Supreme Being of the Christ expression in this world, and He spoke the word: “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged.” This is the key to the Law of Resistance. Many there are who have thought to understand His words of instruction, “Judge not,” and so it is that they have followed after their own fancies, judging that “judge not” meant to part with one’s natural powers of perception to a degree that engendered self-delusion. The divinely keen powers of perception which enable one to face the facts, both of the inner reality and of the outer manifestation, are to be rejoiced in. Such perception allows one to have an understanding of all the influences and vibrations that are at work in any given situation or condition, so that the facts are known; but such clear analysis does not mean that the person or persons involved are judged. It may be noted of a certain person that he has light brown hair and blue eyes, without saying that his hair should be darker, or that his eyes should be grey. Noting the facts as manifest is not judging, for judging does not begin until that which is noted is accounted to be either good or evil.
In the Mystical School of Life the blessed one must prove that he can face the facts of manifestation, both in himself and in others, without fear or judging. Such an one is content to let all things prove themselves, whether they be of the real or the unreal, for he knows that whatever judgment is judged by any person determines the judgment wherein that person is judged; for each one judges himself. Much has been expressed concerning the judgments of God, but God does not judge any; He only allows the judgments judged by each to return upon the judging one, that each may prove himself. So it is that no one has any need to judge another; but this does not deny the fact that all should face the facts of being, both manifest and unmanifest, with clear perception. This becomes clear to the degree to which the Law of Resistance is understood.
In the Positive Planes of Being the creative functions are eternally active, and each earnest one is aware thereof to the degree to which he is one with his Lord within. In the negative planes which form the outer Triune World, or what is spoken of as creation, there are as many varying degrees of resistance as there are different creations. While resistance is necessary, the fact of resistance alone would be meaningless. The laws of electricity as known by man give abundant proof of these things. A wire of small resistance cannot carry a great current of electricity, but a wire of great resistance is of no value without its rightful current.
In every person on earth there is a degree of resistance, else life could not manifest; but the fact of resistance is valueless so long as it is alone. Many have thought that all resistance must be removed before a spiritual life could be lived, but to remove resistance would be to make the form into a spineless, meaningless mass. Response does not require the removal of resistance. Response means that whatever degree of resistance is present in the individual is allowed contact with the Lord, that the corresponding degree of Positive Radiance may be released therein, thus making the person to be alive in reality. All who do not allow their resistance to be controlled by the Will of the Lord, but seek rather to do their own will, are dead already, in that they are not alive in the Lord. There is a great difference between a “dead wire” and a “live wire,” though both are wires and both may be suitable for purposes of conducting currents of electricity.
The purposes of the Emissaries of Divine Light include that of “resurrecting the dead,” in the sense of bringing those human beings who are dead to reality into contact with their Lords, that they may be charged with the Christ Radiance and become eternally alive. It is God’s Will that all should have Eternal Life now. He who lets his Father’s Will be done in him now is now received into Eternal Life. No one can do the Will of God and be subject to death, for the Will of God is Life Eternal. Only that which refuses to let God’s Will be done is capable of death. Eternal Life is the natural state. Rejoice that it is so!
Step by step the Law of Resistance is being unveiled for you by these words. The resistance in any person is in direct ratio to his ability to live. When the resistance is high, and self‑controlled by the human being, the attainment in the chosen sphere of outer world function is high according to worldly standards, while the self‑active ones who have little resistance form the masses who are molded by the selfish will of the comparative few who have a high degree of self-controlled resistance. Nevertheless, the end of both the high and the low in self‑active resistance is the same, for both are subject to death, and their lives pass away as the shadow before the sunrise. These are they who defend their self‑will and cling to death, refusing to let the LORD’s will be done in them; and so it is that the dead bury their dead, not knowing that those who are not alive in the LORD are dead already. All such who respond not to their Lords within them are received into the earth and into the grave, wherein there is no knowledge or memory, for they are as if they had not been, and neither shall they be anymore; for if the dead be not resurrected while they are yet alive in the eyes of the world, they shall not be resurrected at all at any time, and their substance shall be given to another at an appointed time. So it is that the substance of all shall ascend in due season; for the “second resurrection” is that of the substance and not of the person, and it is only required for that which has been received of the “second death.” All human beings born upon the earth are at first subject to the first death, for they are dead already so long as they can die, and while they are yet alive in the eyes of the world they may receive the resurrection into Eternal Life. But the death of the world is the second death, and for all who die therein is the second resurrection prepared, that their substance may be lifted up by another at a time when it shall respond to the Lord.
When the resistance that is in any person is given fully and freely by him to his Lord, his outer manifestation of being becomes charged with his Lord’s presence, and to the degree of resistance is the power of the Lord released in accordance with the manifest need. He who thus gives his own free will to his Lord, that his every expression from that day onward may be of his Lord, is he who truly responds in the Fire of Love, thereby allowing himself to be drawn into contact with his Lord, by whom he is charged with Light, Love and Life to the degree of his individual resistance. The Law of Resistance relates to the resistance to life that is present in the individual. So long as the resistance to life is kept away from the Lord through the self‑active will of the individual, the result sooner or later must be death. When the resistance to life is subject to Eternal Being through a responsive love contact with the Lord, so that the Lord’s Will is done in the individual, the degree of resistance to life determines the individual’s ability to participate in Eternal Life.
The blessed one is he who has been drawn into contact with his Lord through a response in the Christ Love, so that his resistance to life has become charged with Eternal Life which is allowed to manifest as perfection through his body and mind. The unresponsive one is he whose self‑active direction of his own resistance to life has proven him to be dead, in that he is subject to death, and his ill state is manifest in his body and mind as ailments and limitations. Between these two planes of manifestation are the hosts of responding ones in whom perfection is being made manifest as rapidly as the world release is accomplished, and these are they who are the contact points between the real and the unreal, in whom the wondrous works of the Lord are made known and through whom the Glory of the Lord is established in the earth as an ever‑expanding radiance of the victory of the Lord our God, even the LORD of Lords. So it is that the responding ones are accounted as blessed ones in a vision of fully released reality.
A realization of the Law of Resistance allows the responding one to abide in absolute tranquility at all times, for he knows that the directionalization of any individual resistance to life will determine whether or not that person proves to be of the real or the unreal. The blessed one radiates the Christ Love to all alike, but he knows that all do not receive alike, and so he knows that his love radiance will be established to each one in accordance with the response thereto. The blessed one faces the facts of manifestation as they appear in each one, all the while beholding a clear vision of reality in one and all, so that he may be conducted of his Lord into the specific expression that is required in meeting the conditions made manifest in and through all with whom he is associated. To such an one there are but two states among those of whom he is aware: namely, the state of those whose resistance is charged with life, and so is alive, and the state of those whose resistance is uncharged, and so is dead. The blessed one sees the functions of life expression as an active agent which separates these two states, as the sheep from the goats, the wheat from the chaff, and the gold from the dross.
When the responding one has allowed himself to be so drawn into oneness with his Lord that his Lord’s Will begins to be done in and through him, he finds that there are various manifestations of resistance toward his expression of God‑Activity. The Great Master plainly warned His disciples that they would meet such resistance, and His Word is recorded in Matthew 5:10‑12; and 10:32‑42, with special reference to verses 34‑37. The Master Jesus knew that the great tests of life would come when the responding one’s friends and relatives should begin to resist his Divine expression, and our Master pointed out that those who wavered at such times of stress were not to be counted among the blessed ones.
To illustrate the action of the Law of Resistance, let your attention rest upon certain situations that have come within the range of your own awareness. The responding one is so certain of his position, and so firmly grounded on the Rock of Reality, that he functions serenely in the doing of his Father’s Will, no matter what the resistance may be. Of himself he never makes a choice that affects another, for he continues on, waiting the time of outer proof, when those with whom he is associated make the choice, and then he acts accordingly.
The blessed one never judges another, nor chooses for another, but he lets each one judge himself and make his own choice. So it is that the blessed one always accepts the self‑judgment and choice of those around him; which is to say, as each one proves himself and judges himself and chooses for himself, the blessed one accepts each one on the basis each one establishes for himself. Nevertheless the blessed one never accepts the judgment and choice of another for himself.
As an example, let us consider that the responding mate may not seek separation from his or her unresponsive mate, yet when the unresponsive mate chooses separation the responding mate may and should accept that separation, that he may be free in the Lord. Nevertheless, so long as the unresponsive mate does not choose separation, the responding mate so lives in the Christ Radiance that the mate may find it easy to respond to the Lord at any time should that be the choice of the one who had not before responded. Whatever the choice of the unresponsive one may be, let that be the choice; for as surely as the responding one lives the Christ Life, remaining true to reality, the unresponsive one must sooner or later make a choice, as the Lord forces the issue through the Law of Resistance. And whatever the unresponsive one may choose, whether it be to separate or to respond, let that choice stand, and let not the responding one waver therefrom.
When there is an issue concerning matters between individuals, whether they be relatives or not, so that there is a mutual responsibility, let the responding one function in the Radiance of Love in accordance with reality, knowing that in due season the Law of Resistance will force a choice from the unresponsive one if the responding one wavers not. And when that choice is once made, let it be established, and let the responding one act under the direction of the spirit in accordance with the choice of the unresponsive one. So it is that the earnest one may know of a surety that so long as he is true to himself, responding to his Lord in love, the Law of Resistance will bring a release in due season from any ill condition or limitation, if he wavers not.
So it is that all things will work out in perfection for all who love the Lord, and the responding one finds that he never needs to resort to any ill act or expression in order to seek freedom, for he knows that an unwavering life expression in the Christ Light, Love and Life will bring needed changes at the appointed times. And when those changes come, the responsive one accepts them instantly and acts accordingly, under the direction of the spirit in the firmness of the Law of Love.
The blessed one never seeks to hurry matters, for he knows that he is living in eternity, and he knows that the unreal must surely fall of its own weight, thereby giving him release as surely as day follows night, if he but stands firmly upon the Rock of Reality. So it is that the Law of Resistance divides the gold from the dross, and thereby is the unreal caused to fall and the real is lifted up, for the full function of the Law of Resistance requires that the responding one shall never attempt to fight, but stand firmly on the Rock.

Cosmic Tide
Cosmic Tide
Martin Exeter February 10, 1985
We have recently been giving some thought to the matter of ascension, the creative process by which there is a raising up. Human beings everywhere have been raised up out of the mineral kingdom, the kingdom of vegetation, even the animal kingdom these days, so that there is substance standing up in a flesh body. Included in this substance is also the substance of mind and emotions—the substance of consciousness. While life remains, this substance of consciousness is not separate from the physical substance of one’s flesh—and the physical substance of one’s flesh is not really separate from the other kingdoms of this world: they are all included. This raising-up process of ascension just goes so far, and human beings develop an identity.
The whole experience of self in the human sense is restricted to this lump of raised-up substance, with the inclusion of what we call consciousness. The consciousness which we have and which comes to focus in a sense of self occurs because there are certain facilities available in the physical form to permit this to happen. In the development of these facilities are various systems in the physical form, such as the endocrine system and the nervous system, the circulatory system, the lymphatic system, the digestive system. One can identify a number of different systems, which obviously are facilities for the expression of life in human form, and these facilities allow for the development of consciousness.
So we have one gathering together of substance at various levels which, because of its nature and design, produces or creates an earthly identity. All human beings have this sense of human, earthly self—but clearly this is a creation; it developed out of what happened in this cycle of ascension. But if there has been a cycle of ascension, something must have produced it, and it wasn’t the thing that was created; it wasn’t the sense of self humanly speaking that did it, because there wasn’t any self to start with; it merely developed along the way.
Because of the love of this earthly self there is the endeavor to promote it in various ways and to maintain it in existence. Finally it can’t be maintained anymore, and that is that. This seemed a rather unfortunate state of affairs, so various ideas have been developed in the mental realm of consciousness to help sustain this earthly sense of self. These theories and beliefs that have been developed look to what they call a life after death for this creation, which only appeared by reason of the physical body. We can well see the reason why all these ideas have been promulgated, mostly through religions of various sorts. Whether one proceeds immediately to an ultimate heaven or hell in the earthly identity, or whether one just goes into limbo for a while and shows up again later in some other form, it makes very little difference. The idea is to maintain the earthly identity which is so much in love with itself. The primary characteristic of a human being is self-love. This is considered to be natural. It may be thought of in terms of sustaining life itself, or it may be thought of in these religious terms; and all that human beings attempt is based in this self-love. The self-love may include some others as well—and with some, they reach a point where they are, in theory at least, including everybody, the whole human race: “We have got to sustain the existence of the whole human race in this state of human identity.”
Well we have all passed through this stage I am sure. The question is as to how far beyond it we have come, or whether we just got stuck somewhere along the way because we were so in love with this human identity. That is the only reason why anyone gets stuck—self-love. So we have this very obvious state of separation from whatever it is that allowed for the development of this human identity. After all, there was a point back along the way where it didn’t exist, for all of us—there was no human identity and it is quite clear that there was a point where in the human identity we didn’t exist. We hadn’t even been thought of, and there comes a time when we are likely to be forgotten, where we have ceased to exist. This has always seemed a terrible fate insofar as the human identity was concerned, because of the self-love. No matter how miserable and rotten the experience of human identity has been, there has been sufficient self-love to want to preserve it.
Mention was made yesterday evening of a movement of the solar system and the galaxy through space, in the recognition that there are various qualities of what is present in space through which these systems move. This was seen in light of the fact that there came a time in the past when the quality of substance in space was such that what has subsequently been called the fall became possible—it became a fact. However in the course of time there is movement further, and there is an emergence out of that particular quality of substance, so that it establishes a state where what we have known as the fallen state cannot exist—whether human beings like it or not.
The whole of the All-That-Is is one thing. Unlike human beings, who try to go off in their own separate ways and achieve their own isolated purposes, all that composes the universal whole is part of one thing, naturally and easily coordinated. That state of coordination is consequent upon what we have called love—oneness—the universe is one. Only in the self-loving consciousness of human beings is there this state of assumed separation. It is unreal; it doesn’t exist anywhere but in human consciousness.
So there is this cosmic tide, but it comes to focus particularly in our galaxy, in our solar system, in our planet, in ourselves, in all human beings. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2022/10/trailing-clouds-of-glory.html] Human beings are part of this whole universal operation. It has been possible to exist in this limited human state for many thousands of years simply because of the nature, the character, the quality of space-substance through which this solar system in particular is passing. Now, the fact is that it is emerging out of that substance, which means, for human beings, that the state of separation from the All-That-Is can no longer be maintained.
This rising tide is not a little local affair, although it seems to be so from the human standpoint. From the standpoint of human identity it becomes more and more uncomfortable because the state of separateness from the whole is moving toward the point where it can no longer exist. What is happening is merely consequent upon the rising tide, the cosmic tide, which one either learns to move with or one drowns—to enter the Ark and float on the surface of the water. or one drowns, and what drowns is this human identity.
So the human sense of self is raised up to a certain level. It has been all down through the ages, and human beings have reached whatever level it was but never allowed it to go any further because they were held firmly in that restricted and disintegrating state by their self-love. Obviously if one is to emerge out of that, that self-love must be dissolved somehow. There must be love of another self. The self-love which is known by human beings is a phony. It is an unreal experience, because there isn’t any self of that nature that is lasting.
In this process of ascension there is movement which brings a clarifying state of self. The human self becomes increasingly transparent. If you consider the word transparent you will immediately be aware of the fact that the human self becomes increasingly nonexistent—and because it is transparent, whatever the truth is can come forth. So there is the gradual dissolution of the human self but at the same time the emergence of the true self, the true identity that has always been present and which has made possible the incomplete human identity which has been the experience. It has been incomplete because it only went up so far. It never came to the point of clarification and transparency where the human self would vanish and the true self would appear.
It is reaching a point where this restricted state cannot continue to exist—there are cosmic reasons for that, beyond human control—but regardless of why it is happening, it is happening. And human beings are either participating in this ascending process, so that their sense of identity is changing, or they are staying with the old identity and passing out of the picture.
This is something which is happening on a large scale, on the scale of mankind. It is not only on the scale of mankind; it is happening throughout the universal whole—but this is a very particular event that is occurring in this particular part of the universe. The universe is not bland; it is not all the same thing going on at the same time. There is a vast multiplicity. But here something is happening which involves mankind, and it involves us because we are a part of mankind. It involves everyone. No one can find a position of exemption; at least the only position of exemption is the death or the passing of the human identity. Then you are exempt, but then you don’t exist anymore; whereas this state of human identity, if allowed to participate in the continuing ascending process, becomes increasingly transparent. One self fades-out, another self fades-in. It is all part of the process of ascension. Where there is a willingness for this to happen, that proves itself out—then it happens.
A Vast Cosmic Drama Unfolding
Martin Cecil June 1, 1960
When the Divine State was a reality on earth in what we call the Motherland, it was something most pleasing and wonderful, most desirable. The experiences were all what they should be, and there was the essential balance in the expression of life. The human imagination with respect to such things tends to get lost. It is almost inconceivable to human beings that there could be a state on earth where no police force was necessary, or no armies were, where there was no conflict, where there were no hospitals, no necessity for them, no necessity for the vast majority of the things that are present in the fallen world of men which occupy so much of man's attention. When we recognize this, we see how much wasted energy there actually is in the fallen state, because human beings are busily engaged in things which seem to be necessary in the fallen state and are, but which would be totally unnecessary in the Divine State. In the Divine State all energy, all the life force, would be directed into the true channels of expression. And so we can see then that, even just to the extent of our ability to visualize, there would be a tremendous current of power available for constructive achievement.
If all the energy that is being expended by human beings in such activities as defense—as is considered to be most essential in the world today, armies and air forces and navies, and the police force—in hospitals, correctional institutions of all kinds, and we could go on and on. Wherever we find things that are wrong needing to be corrected, we have a situation where energy is being expended which would not be expended in the Divine State because things are right there. Of course, there is one activity which would still be necessary and that is education; rather different, but education would still be necessary. But all the energies of all concerned would be centered in the achievement of the creative purposes of God. The whole of the expression of life is rightly directed toward that end, so that everything would be used constructively.
We need to recognize that every aspect of life from the Divine standpoint has a relationship to the Divine purposes—everything. That does not mean that we, if we are one-pointed, we are just fixed in some single pattern; in the over-all sense, yes, for the Divine purposes, but it is such a broad field and everything that is done on the right basis, from the Divine standpoint, may participate in this broad field.
We remember what was said by the LORD to Job: “Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades or loose the bands of Orion? Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or guide Arcturus with his sons?” We recognize that these things relate to constellations in the starry heavens. We have touched upon something of the significance of the constellations Pleiades and Orion—influences at work. Mazzaroth has also been mentioned, the Science of Mazzaroth, that which relates to the creative influences which are brought to bear in relationship to this planet particularly, the facilities which are available for use in the achievement of the creative purposes.
The influences which are real are to be used in the achievement of the Divine creative purposes. Man is not supposed to be subject to them. He is supposed to be subject to God. Because he is subject to God and is under the control of God's dominion, he then comes into position to make use of the provision which God is offering in relationship to the achievement of the essential creative purposes. God never tries to do the impossible. As there is a certain combination of creative factors brought to focus, it is that combination which needs to be used for the achievement of whatever is required. It is useless to try to achieve something else on the basis of some other combination which is not there. We use what is present. The LORD provides that which is necessary from the standpoint of His creative purposes. Man has stolen what he could of the LORD's provision and tried to use them for the human purposes, and we have a situation of great confusion.
There are certain influences which relate particularly to what is called Mazzaroth. From the standpoint of the human recognition of something this relates to what are called the signs of the zodiac, and the movements of the various planets of which human beings are aware, also the movements of the sun and the moon and so on. The very fact that that which human beings have built in this regard must of necessity be based upon that of which human beings are aware sets a very distinct limitation upon it, because human beings are aware of so little, even from the standpoint of the planets of this solar system. There is an awareness of nine, including the earth. In actual fact there are twelve.
Now, we recognize that there is one out of position. There is some perception in this regard with respect to what are called the asteriods and some theorizing as to whether they might not be the remains of an exploded planet that moved in an orbit between Mars and Jupiter. There is a vacant orbit in there and there are also two other planets of which human beings are not aware. Whether those other planets are in physical form of manifestation or not is something we do not need to consider at the moment, but one is beyond the outermost planet of which human beings are aware, Pluto, and the other is beyond the innermost planet. But there are in fact twelve planets which need to be taken into account. If you only take nine into account, you are not going to get the right answer.
So we see these things as having influence, as having meaning. We do not perhaps, at this point have too much comprehension of what it is all about, but it is there. There is relatedness between that which transpires on the surface of this planet and the great universe beyond. Much of the dramatic work which was undertaken in the Motherland related to this vast drama. In other words, the forces that are moving in the cosmos may be brought to focus in relationship to the achievement of the creative purposes of God here on earth in a manner that is harmonious to that which is transpiring out there. This is something that human beings in the fallen state take no account of at all. If they want to do something, well, they want to do it. It does not matter what is going on out there; it has no meaning to them anyway. But from the Divine standpoint everything is coordinated. Everything belongs together; it is one thing. And that which is going on out there has vital significance and meaning to that which is capable of being achieved right here. Whatever it is that is transpiring out there provides the material or the means by which there may be creative achievement right here.
And dramatic presentations that were offered in the Motherland had a direct relatedness to that which was transpiring from the cosmic standpoint, and the miniature pattern here on earth was brought to focus in different individuals—God Being made manifest, but bringing into focus something far greater, far more than was just here on earth. And there is a vast cosmic drama unfolding, of which human beings are virtually unaware, which needs to have its relatedness to that which is transpiring here on earth. It must be brought to focus on the surface of this planet through God's crowning creation to permit that which is to be achieved here to be made possible. We cannot somehow just generate the power from within ourselves and say that we are going to do this, that, and the other thing; at least, we cannot do very much on that basis. But once there begins to be a connecting up with that which is transpiring in the vast drama of the cosmos, then there can begin to be sensed the tremendous power that would be available to do whatever was necessary here on earth. It would actually be a very small fraction of that which was available, because our field of function here is relatively a very tiny, miniature thing.
Here we begin to come down to something which is of immediate concern to all. How much are you capable of participating in the development of those patterns by which the creative purposes of God may be fulfilled? We cannot manipulate the distorted patterns that man has made in order to produce the perfect pattern which God offers. It must be something that comes from God. There is power, there is provision, there is everything that is necessary to deal with the world situation so that all the powers of men would look foolish, insignificant. But we cannot get that by any effort of the human mind whatsoever. It simply comes as we begin to share the control, the dominion of the LORD working through us in relationship to present circumstances, the things that now are. Then we can begin to become increasingly aware of the things that are on beyond so that we move from the known to the unknown. And everything that we do, every action that appears, all the fun we have, all the joy, all that we apply ourselves to day by day, may be used to permit the current of God's Power to be brought to focus on earth for the achievement of His purposes. Here is a field for your consideration and application.

Priesthood—Government And Education
Priesthood — Government And Education
Martin Cecil August 12, 1980 Assembly
Never underestimate the power of spiritual expression—we could perhaps say the catalytic action of that power. This brings changes to pass without any change in the nature of what it was that brought the change about. We remain ourselves. We remain genuine. In spite of the fact that necessarily we have to play various roles, the catalyst is always present. It may be that the catalyst which we really are will transform the role that we are playing. We do not identify ourselves with those external changes because we have an awareness that we are individually and collectively the Unchanging One. An identity begins to be known that transcends every role that may be played. Never again do we become lost in any of the roles which we play. We do many things, we play many roles, but we remain ourselves—something stable, something unmoving in a realm which is in the process of being transformed.
In order to function in all the essential roles that are needful we must have this stable base. We never think of ourselves as being the role that we are playing. We may recognize the essential nature of the role we are playing. We are in the world, but not of it. Being in the world we have sundry roles to play. We don’t object to roles, even the humblest. Who’s to judge as to which role is the most important? The human view will not tell us. You may have found, to the extent that you have been a catalyst in any situation, that those who are present in that situation became aware of the change without knowing why it happened. They don't look at you and say, “Ah, you're the catalyst.” We need to be humble in that sense so that we do not project ourselves forward so as to make sure everybody knows how important we are as a catalyst.
A catalyst is very often most effective when it is unknown. Something becomes known to human beings and it will be mistranslated. The Master was a catalyst. When He was on earth, we now see the immense changes that occurred throughout the whole world because of the fact of His presence. Those changes have been mistranslations, haven't they? The catalyst was there, the transformations occurred, but they occurred on the basis of human mistranslations. This partly was consequent on the fact that He was no longer present. The responsibility was in the hands of those who had been with Him. They didn't handle it too well.
If these essential transformations are to provide a true translation there must be on hand a catalyst that remains, that continues to be present, that continues to exert a control and dominion with respect to the changes that are occurring. In order for this to be so, there has been the necessity for a collective body. It would never happen on the basis of one person. If it could have happened on that basis, it would have long ago. The Master was here, and there was no one who could have handled that in any more effective way than He did. We are not looking for a repeat performance of some kind, some other actor in the central role. This role has to be played, the catalyst has to be present, but it becomes an effective means of transformation, ultimately transmutation, because it is a body of individual catalytic factors. And it’s the Whole Body that is the catalyst in fact.
We have been concerned with the development of this manifest catalyst on earth. We become familiar with the requirements because we let it happen in our own individual experience. We ourselves discover what it means to provide the catalytic influence in all our affairs. This influence needs to be pure and absolute. We don't agree with what is not right and fitting. Unfortunately this has happened all too much in our Emissary experience. There has been agreement on the wrong basis, agreement with respect to something that was distorted, usually to keep the peace. The catalyst doesn't necessarily keep the peace. There is the sword aspect to the catalyst.
If there are those things that are not evidence of the real nature of spirit in action, appearing through ourselves or through somebody else, we would naturally anticipate rebuke—at least one would think so. All too often, rather than rebuke, agreement has been provided. We tend to provide agreement so that someone else doesn't rebuke us. “I won't rebuke you if you don't rebuke me,” so that we can continue to get away with human nature. But there is a line here to be drawn, isn't there? We are here to draw that line. We need to be aware of what is necessary in order to allow this catalyst, this unified catalyst, to operate on earth. Our sole concern is to provide what is necessary so that it may.
This requires that we deal with many aspects of human nature so that we may be firm and absolute in our approach to every field. We cannot know ahead of time what field will be offered to us in which we need to provide the catalyst. These things are not scheduled in the usual human nature ways. So we need to have a broad view, a broad understanding, which is capable of coming to point in a specific sense with respect to the circumstances that arise.
The Priesthood is the catalyst—the catalyst that has to be purely itself; it cannot be altered from being itself. We have taken note often of the evidence of this revealed by reason of the Master's presence on earth. Nothing could happen to change Him from being Himself. So with this collective catalyst. Obviously it requires an absolute loyalty within the catalyst on the part of those who compose it. There is an absolute acceptance of the truth in one's own expression—a consistent experience. If anything creeps in through anyone that is not quite what it should be, then immediately it is rebuked, maybe not because someone shakes a finger in someone else's face—but by the very quality of one's own living there is a rebuke there. And a person who is not permitting the truth to find expression will begin immediately to feel very uncomfortable. Often not a word needs to be spoken. There are occasions when silence is golden in this sense—no word is spoken. It gives the individual a chance to think again. If it's too blatant, there may be a need to turn on one's heel and walk away. The catalyst provides a rebuke; this is part of the catalytic action by which changes are wrought.
There is a need for a clear association with the Word, with the tone of life, the tone of the catalyst. We examine the human nature experience to some extent in order to make plain what the attitude of spirit is relative to such situations. We are not interested in human nature and the way it behaves, but we are interested in being very sure that we do not, inadvertently even, associate ourselves with such off-key expression.
The Priesthood has the responsibility for government and for education. There can't be government until education has been sufficiently in the picture to allow the ministers of government to be on hand. There must be the Priesthood. This has been a problem—to have the Priesthood on hand who were capable of handling what needed to be handled, because there needed first of all to be sufficient education so that they might be on hand. And we see education in a little different way too; because it's not a matter of information; it's a matter of experience—of something coming forth into spiritual expression. But it relates to every field of our living. It relates to all our associations together. If we begin to accept our responsibilities in the Priesthood, male and female, then we have things to handle that we didn't have to handle before. Heretofore the Priesthood hasn't been around. There was no one handling the things that the Priesthood needed to handle. When the Priesthood begins to put in an appearance, then they are handling something that hadn't been handled before.
We have to have some sort of an encompassing vision which enables us to be aware of what it is that needs to be handled, and we recognize that the handling always comes very close to home initially. Once we can handle what is next to us the way it should be handled, we may be trusted with a magnification of that further afield. If we can't do it with respect to what is next to us, how would we ever expect to be trusted with anything more? There have been those who haven't necessarily proven trustworthiness in the little things. Real ministry is right next to one always. If one hasn't seen it there one has only imagination with respect to a real ministry somewhere else. It's not real at all. So we handle what is right next to us, and it is in this that we prove out the fact of the Priesthood.
We may see various areas where there has been a great emptiness. Government is impossible without the working of the Law—in other words, without sex. There is obviously a need for education in this field, first of all, that there might be the Priesthood—who would then provide what was necessary in the expanding responsibilities of government and education. In view of the fact there hasn't been a Priesthood available for this creative work, it might be said that all who aspired in that direction were yet children. If we consider the true state, where there is a Priesthood, where all have reached a level of adequate maturity spiritually speaking, then the children growing up in the ordinary sense would be correctly educated and move into greater spiritual maturity. But we didn't have a situation like that and regardless of adult bodies, there were a lot of children around. We are looking toward a greater spiritual maturity and a Priesthood capable of handling children in mature bodies.
There is rightly always the provision of dominion from an external standpoint, which gradually diminishes. It comes in some sooner than others—even in the true state there are those who begin to experience a greater maturity more quickly than others, and there will be a different situation with respect to each in this regard. So there is a warm enfoldment by the Priesthood, male and female, who are responsible for the field of education. And the whole cycle of unfoldment is designed to allow the individual to realize from within himself the dominion that should be expressed in his own particular area of function. But that dominion includes every aspect and every level. If there is no adequate education for every aspect and every level, that individual can never experience spiritual maturity. We see something of the responsibility of the Priesthood in this regard.
I think you will recognize that there might indeed be a need for one hundred and forty-four thousand to handle what needs to be handled just in it’s Core aspect. There is a vast field. Let us not get intimidated by the vastness of the field. What we do is handle what is with us, that’s all. And if the catalyst is there in fact, then everything will be taken care of. We are not trying to take care of it in human strength, but letting the catalyst work. The former things pass away; all things are made new in consequence.
There is something to be done in every moment. Emphasis has been placed upon the now—we can only live now. However, living now, there may be an awareness of what is coming. Living now has been interpreted in some consciousnesses as narrowing things down to a little dot, so that we are really in a very small place. But now is a crossover point. There is the future and there is the past. The future comes to point now. It comes to point out of what might be described as a state of vastness. The space contained within the two converging lines which are coming down to this point from above is a symbol ultimately of infinity. You extend those lines and they go on forever and the space becomes infinite. But it all—out of the future—comes down to this point where we are on hand to usher it into the world so that it may move into the past. The past equally goes out to infinity too. Let us not think of now then as being merely a dot. It is the crossover point where we stand, where we are responsible.
But the Garden is planted eastward in Eden. It is the Garden, the essential essences of what should properly be brought to focus in oneself now. One should be aware, rightly, of what it is that is approaching in this sense. If you try and look too far you can get lost in infinity, in which case you have stepped out of the now. But if you stay in the now and from that vantage point begin to allow a spiritual discernment to acquaint you with what it is that is coming, then you are not leaving the now. That discernment is part of the right action now and you are never therefore taken by surprise. This is not a discernment, necessarily, of coming events. They haven't yet taken form. This relates to spirit, the Garden planted eastward in Eden. Part of the action of the Spirit of Truth in our own experience is to acquaint us with things to come.
People usually think of things to come in terms of coming events. But we are not so much interested in that. We may see such things because coming events cast their shadows before. There must be a light there to cast a shadow and we are interested in the light which is present because of the movement of spirit. Spirit is vast, unlimited, but it's coming down to us individually; and also to us collectively, to be brought to point where we are either individually or collectively. As it begins to come toward this point it begins to be concentrated to a greater extent and becomes more specifically discernable in consequence. It’s not like looking out at the night sky—a vast expanse. Something needs to come out of what is symbolized by that vast expanse, down here right where we are, and it is close to our field of specific responsibility, that we may begin to discern something of what is coming, the Spirit of Truth showing us things to come.
Spirit—something emerging from certain vibrational levels other than earthly levels. When our polarity is right we are perceptive of these things, we are discerning of them; we know a little ahead what it is that is happening. To the extent of our ability to discern in this way we have the opportunity of allowing what is coming to be correlated with what we know in our present moment of ministry. It's not as though there was a set structured pattern of spirit coming down, and it's going to come down here and it won't be any other way than what it is. That would be the state of an automaton in so far as we were concerned, wouldn't it, if this was really the case.
Our discernment broadens our view. According to the extent of our discernment it can be quite a view! To start with it is probably very little. And within that range there are certain things apparent—vibrations. Knowing what is present in our field of ministry, we may allow it—“this would seem to be fitting”—allow it to come out that way. There is a vast provision available, treasure in heaven, and it's not going to be forced on us in some particular way. We are given the opportunity of playing our part in deciding what it is out of this treasure which is fitting and right for our immediate field of ministry.
We don't do this as though what was coming to us individually was unrelated to what was coming to others. We have a certain discernment which relates to others too. We see what is emerging for them. They are not yet in position to discern what it is that’s coming insofar as they are concerned, what should be appearing next. But we should be in that position so that we can discern what is appearing for them and we can begin to acquaint them with what it is that is coming to point in them. This is part of the responsibility of the Priesthood.
One needs to be able to discern what it is that is needful vibrationally speaking. We have to discern that first before it can take form correctly. We know these things because we have spiritual discernment. We see what is coming down from God out of heaven before it arrives, it’s in the offing. This is capable of being discerned because it's not unrelated to what is happening in this present moment, to whatever has come down from God out of heaven that is being expressed.
There is not a God sitting up there on high saying, “Well now I have this particular treasure that you are going to take whether you like it or not.” He said, “I have all these treasures. It's your responsibility to discern which are the right ones to be made use of in the present moment of your ministry.” And we have that responsibility; we have this array of facilities available to us spiritually speaking. We also have an awareness of what is present with us materially speaking. And we bring the two together on the right basis. You look over your own array of spiritual facilities and you see, well this perhaps is the one that would be most fitting in this instance and you let it come through you to bless. This is the way we minister.
This which is to be offered by the Priesthood is something new. It hasn't been known. Obviously everybody has something more to learn by reason of actual experience. This emphasizes the importance that, while gaining this experience, as whatever is required unfolds naturally there should always be very careful orientation upward. One should never assume that one is going to gain experience all on one's own. This is the usual attitude of human nature. “Ah, now I begin to see something. Now I am going to gain this experience for myself.” No.
There must be dominion. There must be the control provided, the enfoldment provided. This can only be done to the extent that those who are to be enfolded are yielded and open upward, aware that they don't really know yet, they haven't the experience yet. Therefore, “What is it that's fitting?” There may be a beginning awareness of something or other, but you let the control always be where it belongs. Presumably when there is experience, when there have been a hundred years of such experience we will say, then those concerned possibly could be trusted to handle their affairs rightly without the necessity of letting everything be laid out to the higher point. Obviously this would become very tedious after a while, when we come to the one hundred and forty-four thousand even. So there is a development of the ability in spirit to remain rightly oriented without necessarily always having to give it a form. But in the initial stages, where there isn't the experience, it must be given form. It must be kept centered so that the experience may be gained on the right basis. So always it comes back to this level of the keeping of the first great commandment.
