One Voice

from

One  Voice

Martin  Exeter   June 15, 1986 a.m.

If it is the one voice in expression it is the voice of the King through His body, His mind and His heart.

As individual human beings we have no body or mind or heart that is rightly separate from that.

We are with one accord in one place as we share one spirit, one heart, one mind and one body. The one tone of life sounds throughout. We are one. I speak to all of you who hear my voice. There is one voice, a voice which springs forth from one spirit through one heart, one mind and one body. Present among this gathering today are many who have heard this voice and share in the articulation of it. This is the only way that the voice may be known. Long ago the Master, when He was on earth, stated that His sheep heard His voice, but there were many who did not hear His voice because they were not His sheep. This same voice resounds in the earth today, amplified in living expression as the Word is spoken by one spirit through one heart, one mind and one body. Those who may be referred to as His sheep hear that voice. Those who are not His sheep do not hear that voice. Let us not imagine that everybody should hear that voice.

Those who are referred to as His sheep are those who have ears to hear, in other words whose living experience brings them into position to hear that voice. Perhaps initially hearing that voice there may be the expectation of getting something because of it the expectation of being blessed somehow—and this is something that certainly does occur. But if that is all that is experienced there will come a time when the one who thought he or she heard that voice proves that he or she didn't. The only way to know the voice is to participate in the sounding of the tone of it and in the articulation of the words of it. This of course is not the fact for anyone immediately.

Human beings have an immense amount of stuff with which they are filled, interfering with the processes of learning—learning to be mature men and women who do not require feeding constantly but are in position to participate in the sounding of that voice, the same voice as had first been heard and, being heard, interpreted. The interpretations are not the voice; they are interpretations. And this is what happens with people to start with: Even though the voice may be there, and there may be the idea that one is hearing the voice, what is heard is garbled, to say the least, by the state of consciousness of the individual concerned. It is only when there is a realization that one doesn’t need to be constantly fed by the sustenance that is supposed to be provided by this voice, that one may participate in the same process that made available the sustenance in the first place. So over a number of years human beings, giving evidence of much sluggishness, learn a little and participate in unison with that one voice.

There is a differentiation—each individual has his own aspect of that voice to sound—but there is no conflict between the differentiations. This is a unique condition insofar as human experience is concerned, because in all the voices that sound—the raucous voices of antispirit that sound throughout the world, the raucous voices of human nature—there is always conflict, always argument, always self-righteous thought that, as it might be put: “I’m right; everybody else is wrong.” The voice out of the heaven of spirit is a unified voice, even though it is differentiated in marvelously unique ways. But that differentiation never introduces conflict; it simply enhances the resonance of the voice and provides what is needful in the outpouring of a blessing of sufficient magnitude as to encompass the whole field of the responsibility of man. We have shared somewhat in this process, but we were kind of slow on the uptake.

So there is this heaven of spirit. There is also the heaven of antispirit. As there is participation in the sounding of this voice, the heaven of spirit is unveiled step by step. At the same time the heaven of antispirit is unveiled. The heaven of spirit and the heaven of antispirit may be said to be in the same place, and there is an unveiling. The voice speaks and commands obedience. There are those who might say, “Well that’s an imposition.” No, it commands obedience, but there is a choice here. One may accept or one may reject. Presumably most of us have found ourselves compelled to accept in some measure, but also it is discovered that there are those who imagined they were accepting but find out later that they were rejecting. It proves itself out.

Those who reject—and at the moment that would include the vast majority of the population of the earth—become aware increasingly of what is being unveiled in the heaven of antispirit, and of course becoming aware of this most do not appreciate it—there is such a terrible condition. But in the heaven of antispirit there is a vast variety of possibilities to align oneself with pro or con. And with great enthusiasm most people do this. We can observe it happening all around us, but I suspect in that observation is also the awareness, if we are alert to it, of what is happening within ourselves of the same nature. Do you still find yourself aligning yourself with this approach or that approach that is offered in the human world?

The suggestion, or maybe it was a command, appeared in the Book of Revelation: “Come out of her, my people.” Stop doing that. This is the habit of human nature, firmly entrenched over many thousands of years, and everyone, at least to start with finds themselves stuck with it. Because it is the popular way to go, it is assumed that one must align oneself with this or align oneself with that in order to be active in presumably doing something worthwhile, doing something good. Then of course someone else who aligns himself with something else must be doing something bad. So we have all these crisscross alignments based in concepts of good and evil into which human beings have been pouring themselves with enthusiasm for ages. But now something is happening to call a halt to this fatal procedure. Enough is enough—and twenty thousand years, or whatever the length of time is, seems to be quite enough. Come out of her, my people!

There is one voice. There is one tone of life which has been brought to focus and that focus is expanding, and the sound of the voice reverberates with greater impact as day succeeds day. It is the voice of authority. It is the voice of command, commanding obedience: Accept or reject. And so it is. Where there is acceptance there is obedience, there is alignment with this one voice, there is alignment with this one tone of life, and consequently there is alignment with one spirit. The universal spirit it might be called, or the spirit of the living God, and consequent upon this there is one heart and one mind and one body. This is occurring within the range of our own experience.

We may at times have taken issue with this one voice, saying in effect: “I don’t agree.” What is not being agreed with, if there is non-agreement, is a mental and emotional interpretation of what it is that is being articulated by the one voice. On this basis people are in conflict with themselves; they are not agreeing with themselves. They are not agreeing with the interpretation they themselves have made, and not agreeing in this fashion excludes what it is that the one voice is actually proclaiming. But those who hear that voice, while there may be those moments of disturbance, cannot help but come into alignment with that voice step by step. It is happening. It will happen. By the same token the exact reverse is true also.

This one voice has always been present for human beings to hear. Some have sensed it and there have been occasions when some have heard it because there was someone present to articulate it. But in these days the articulation of this one voice becomes inescapable. It may be interpreted this way and that; it may be agreed with or disagreed with on this basis. That doesn’t really mean very much either way because the agreement or disagreement is with the interpretation that the person has made of what was being articulated. The only way to know what the one voice is is to be aligned with it, to be the means by which the articulation occurs—instead of going off on these half-cocked tangents?

We are here to let this voice sound with ever-increasing volume on earth. This is the way. This is the truth. This is the life. I am this—said individually in daily living and consequently said in the voice of the King through His body, His mind and His heart, because His spirit is present and in action. Surely those of us who have heard this voice and have shared in the expression of it know the truth of these things. Those who have not, do not know and cannot know. And so the voice commands obedience: Put away childish things. There is so much yet of human nature, the antispirit, claiming obedience to itself and engendering in human consciousness likes and dislikes, wants and anti-wants.

Do these wants, these personal likes and dislikes, hold sway in any of us? I have heard certain ones at times say, finding themselves in a particular situation: “This isn’t natural to me.” What a person is really saying is: “I don’t like it!” Who cares? What does the creative process say? What does the spirit say unto the churches? Those who have set aside their personal likes and dislikes in order to permit the creative process to work in their own experience and their own field of responsibility exhibit some maturity, but undoubtedly if they stopped to allow entrance into themselves of the antispirit could find that they were doing things that were not natural to them. I know I certainly could have taken this attitude along the way, being required to do all kinds of things, whatever was necessary to be done. From the human-nature standpoint one can always say: “This really isn't my cup of tea.” Who cares whether it is your cup of tea or not? If it is the thing to be done, do it! That’s all. And do it with a good grace, happily. Enjoy doing it.

Did you ever consider that one chooses as to whether one enjoys doing something or doesn't enjoy doing something? One chooses the enjoyment, or lack of it, for oneself. One can always enjoy what is being done if one chooses to enjoy it. But if the event is dictating to you as to what your attitude is going to be, then you are subject to antispirit and there will be this that you like and there will be this that you don’t like. Right? That is the way it is.

So we come again into alignment with the voice, and our voice is that voice. I do what I am here to do. There are many people who have looked at what occurred in the life of Jesus and said, “Well I don't want any of that.” Of course not; human nature doesn’t like it. But it didn’t deter the One who trod that path at all because He wasn't concerned with His own likes and dislikes. He did something that I am sure no one else could have done. He was the one to do it. But we each have our own thing to do. Do we look at what we have to do in the light of: “Am I going to like this or am I not going to like this? Is this going to bring me into a state where I am going to be crucified? Oh I don’t like that; I won’t go that way.” Here is human nature, here is the antispirit in control, telling people what to do. And on that basis of course most people imagine that they are exercising free will. They are not at all! They are under the thumb of the antispirit which has various allures, sometimes: "Well it would be nice to go this way; I would like that.”

Sometimes direction is compelled by pain, pleasure and pain; they are two sides of the same coin. If we can be pushed around by pleasure we certainly will be pushed around by pain, and vice versa. What do we do? That is always the question, and the answer is easy: We sound the voice on earth without equivocation. Nothing personal. What is articulated by the voice has been articulated many, many times, because the truth is true. The voice doesn’t change what it says. It speaks the truth, that’s all. But human consciousness interprets what is said, and according to the state of the human consciousness so will the interpretation be. It only begins to be something of reality, the truth only begins to be known, when one is articulating that voice for oneself and one isn’t hanging on the supposed wisdom coming to one’s ears from someplace else. One either learns, or else.

I am most thankful that we have a body with a mind and a heart yielded ever increasingly to spirit and consequently sharing in the creative process and the articulation of the one voice. For myself I have no interest in anything else. How is it with you? Having no interest in anything else one suddenly enters an experience that is full of expansiveness, of delight of fulfilment, of satisfaction. The fulfilment is doing what one is here to do, not something else. I see people going off in this direction, that direction, trying to satisfy themselves: self-service, that is called. Of course very often it is given a nice spiritual slant. But there is one voice, differentiated in marvelous ways when there are those to do it. And all those ways carry the spirit of oneness, of real agreement; not an intellectual idea or an emotional feeling but the fact of spirit emerging through a yielded body, mind and heart into vibrant spiritual expression on earth.

I thank God that this is so, for those who have heard this voice, this one voice, and have aligned themselves with that voice in the articulation of the word of love and truth and life.

No one ever speaks merely for himself. If it is the one voice in expression it is the voice of the King through His body, His mind and His heart. As individual human beings we have no body or mind or heart that is rightly separate from that. It is good to share the beauty, the stability, the power of the creative process brought to focus in action on earth in these particular days. Changes come thick and fast and will continue to do so, not because of the manipulations of antispirit individually or collectively but because of the creative power of the living God brought to focus in the sounding of His voice on earth. So we continue as one in our momentary living, both as individuals and as one body, that the earth may be filled with the glory of God and the sound of His voice.

Filled With That Fire Of Divine Passion

Filled  With  That  Fire  Of  Divine  Passion

from  The Pure Point Of Awareness

Uranda   July 22, 1948   Sunrise Ranch — Summer Session

Those of you who have been here at the Ranch will recall that some time ago I gave instruction concerning

the pure point of awareness which becomes suspended in the present instant.

[Function of the Mind in Illumination  April 7, 1946]

Vibrating in expectancy, there comes a point where there is a silence that is, as it were, pregnant with something yet to take form. You do not know what that form is. There is simply an expectancy of one-pointed love response to the Lord, and what we may call a pure point of awareness that is suspended in this present instant.

From the standpoint of your consideration of the Laws and Principles which have been, and are, taught in the Third Sacred School, you will readily see the potentialities inherent in such a simple arrangement. The channels of alignment are provided for the operation of the One Law under the control of the LORD of Lords, properly polarized with respect to Eternity, the human mind not attempting to put forth the pattern on which the form shall appear, but letting the Spirit direct the control of the Current through the Truth Divinely established for the uses of God in such a moment.

There comes a point in our focalization and coordination where there is a silence—of the outer, of course. My voice may be sounding in it or not. In other words, you come to realize that I can talk in that silence without disturbing that silence. There comes a point in the crossing, in the focalization of union between Heaven and earth, where there is a silence, in which we share on a unified basis, a silence of the outer which is pregnant with something—you do not know what. You do not try to figure out what; you do not try to speculate; you are not concerned; you are content that there is what I have called a pregnant silence. Then your function is to abide in what I have called expectancy—not that you are expecting something that you might describe; that is, as far as you are concerned you do not know what you are expecting—but there is an air of expectancy, rather than being expectant of something.

On the vibration, you will come to the point where you can hold steady for longer and longer periods of silence because you are not afraid that I have forgotten what I was going to say. There is no cause for restlessness. You are resting in that focalization of love response to the Lord in a silence, whether I am speaking or not, that is expectant with respect to waiting upon the Lord, without trying to make anything manifest according to a preconceived pattern. In this expectant silence, you simply become, as a member of the One Christ Body, what I have called a focalization, or a focalized point of pure awareness. You are not, properly, asleep in that state and yet you are not thinking in the sense of trying to figure out what is going to be said, what is going to happen, what was said, or what is happening over yonder, or what William or Charlie is doing, or someone else. There is just a focalization of pure awareness in this sea of expectant silence, all in love response to the Lord.

Do you see in this the application of the Laws and Principles which you have been taught in the Third Sacred School? It is bringing the application of these Laws down to a fine point. The whole thing becomes unified. You cannot divide one from another, but you see blended in this all of these fundamental Laws and Principles in one point of application. To the degree that you abide in love response to the Lord, and let go to the Spirit of the word that I am privileged to speak as you come to that state, you provide a wide open channel for the expression of the power of God into the earth, according to His Will. We have reached a point, as members of the One Christ Body, where we have absolutely no fear of His Will. Is that not true? We are perfectly willing that His Will should be done on earth as it is in Heaven; then we have no desire to impose our will upon that Current of Creative Activity being made manifest at any given time. This is, in essence, the process of letting. Do you see that that is true? Does that help you to a better understanding of what letting is? In connection with Creative Activity, God said: Let there be so and so, did he not?

I shall undertake to describe something, in principle, of the way this process works in actual Creative Function, with a simple request first that you avoid attempting to develop conclusions as to how it is, or shall be. This is an outline, not to give you a picture in the complete sense, but to reveal the relationship of the Principles involved.

We recognize God to be the Unit of God Being, the many Members of the One Christ Body of God. As you have begun to let yourselves enter into the Unit of the One Christ Body, so that in the blending of the many Members, we have that One Christ Body, you come to a deeper realization of the Body of God, the Unit which is God, made up of the many Members of the God Beings in that Unit. Is that true? You feel that more clearly than heretofore.

In the Creative Processes, before the Negative focalizations were created in the Negative Triune World, it was obviously necessary, within the Body of God, or God Beings, to have both the Positive and the Negative points of polarity in their proper position. The One Christ Body on earth is made in the image and likeness of God. On this level, the Head of the Body is the Positive point of polarity, to which the Body as a whole is Negatively responsive. Then we have in manifest formation that which is patterned after the Body of God. The Head of the Body here is, in turn, completely Negative to the appointed focalization in the higher realms, to the LORD of Lords. You know, through your experience along the way, that that focalization and alignment has been proven over and over again to be absolute and continuous.

So, going back to the Body of God with respect to Creative Activity in the beginning of things, the Word of God would be that which was expressed by the Head of the Body of God; and that would be the expression of the Body as a whole, just as we, as one unit, form one body, and my expression here is the expression of the Body. Nevertheless, in that expression of the Positive point of the Head, the expression was to and through the Negative phase of the Body of God, just as you find it here made manifest. When God, the Head of the Body, the LORD of Lords, expressed the words, “Let there be light,” His word was spoken to and through the Body of which He was, and is, the Head. The letting, then, had to be on the part of the Negative phase of the Body of God. The Positive Head did not let; He expressed the words, “Let there be,” then the responding Body of God provided the focalization in the Creative Currents which permitted letting to be a reality.

That means that these God beings forming the Negative focalization of the Unit of God being, or of God, became those pure points of awareness, suspended in that present instant in the silence that was pregnant with expectancy, each God Being on an appointed Vibration. Then the Creative Word expressed by the Head let, caused, the appropriate Negative points in the Body of God to let the Response come forth to the Head on the basis of the word spoken, with the result that the cycle was set up by that word, and by that letting, on absolute or completely controlled Vibrations, which were exact as to their nature and formation. That Current established, then, on exact Vibrations was the Spirit moving in the Truth, the Current in the formation, the Spirit in the Truth. The exactness of the Nature of the formation, the exactness of the Vibration of the Current, caused the unformed to respond, or that which was formed in the lower vibrations to respond, and as the Current touched that specific vibratory rate of being, to draw that substance into form around the Spirit of the form, which was patterned according to the Truth.

And so, in brief outline, with respect to the primary Principles to remember in the operation of the One Law, you behold the means by which the world was brought forth. And man was created in the image and likeness of God. We see that as Jesus Christ, the manifest expression of the LORD of Lords, established in embryo, as it were, that perfect form in the earth, and that perfect pattern, He opened the way whereby many members might be drawn together according to that pattern, in the Current of that Spirit, to express Life. It was not required that any one individual alone should achieve the absolute fullness of that, to the point of actual manifestation, of wielding power in relationship top the whole world. It was simply required that individuals should be drawn together, so that they would let the Reality that was in them be blended into One Christ Body in focalized Love Response, so that the Body would begin to let. Does this open up anything for you?

What I was asking, to begin with, was that you begin to practice, as members of the One Christ Body, the art of letting from the standpoint of the One Christ Body on earth, the manifestation of the Divine on earth, for the purposes of releasing the power, according to Divine Will. Does that complete a cycle, so that you see?

What is that First Commandment? “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” You are to love the Lord with everything that you are. Put that First Commandment into this picture that we have been drawing, and the whole thing fits, does it not? You see that we have something that by its very Nature, if there is a God, must work. And there is no question in our minds as to whether there is a God, is there? Then it comes down to the point of absolute assurance; not blind faith, hope or wish: but on that basis you see the foundation of that expectancy which I mentioned. It is not that you know what you are expecting, but there is a feeling of expectancy that is faith; or we might put it another way; it is the highest manifestation of faith as it works in Reality, although we would hardly call it faith in the ordinary sense.

It is more than just being receptive; it is something that is absolutely polarized, alive and vivid. One can be completely positive, and be receptive. This is in no sense positive; of course, it is receptive, but that is a far cry from describing what I am talking about, because here it has to be alive and vibrant; in a sense, filled with that Fire of what we might call Divine Passion. It is there waiting to be used as and when the Lord shall find it correct to do so. On that basis, you begin to have a deeper understanding of this feeling realm.

Another point: You will note that in the Third Sacred School you have something that is absolutely unique in the whole world. From this standpoint, as well as from others, we insist that it be not allowed to go off on a tangent, that is, simply feeling on the one hand, or simply intellectual cognition on the other hand. It is required to be the balance of these two in the highest possible degree, and if it starts going off on a tangent in the feeling realm, you find me emphasizing the awareness realm in the intellectual sense, and vice versa. As you look back from this moment through the years, you will see that weaving, as it were, back and forth, bringing the Divine Pattern into manifestation in the tapestry of life. Now that pattern begins to appear in a balanced form. There were times when it looked to you as if it were getting too much over this way, or too much the other way, or something was getting left out. Now, as you come into the focalization where that tapestry is beginning to appear in its fullness, do you see a lack of symmetry? No. You find a balance that begins to show the artistry of the Absolute Pattern.

You have heard me make reference to the Activity of God on earth, in which you were to share. You probably imagined that you would be going out here as an individual, somewhere, doing this, that and the other thing; or else some person would be given a special commission somehow, to go out and do some great thing. Well, I am not saying that individuals will not go out, but if they do, it will be because they are integral units in the unit, regardless of where they are. Therefore, you see that the Activity of God made manifest on earth is simply the letting process, by which the image and likeness of God appears on earth and functions on earth.

O LORD of Lords and KING of Kings, Beloved Lord and Master of us all, we rejoice to let the Fire of Thy Love shine forth. We give thanks for the privilege of letting Thy word go forth into all the earth, knowing that it shall not return unto Thee void, but it shall accomplish that whereunto it is sent, in and through all who let go in Love Response to Thee. In the Christ. Au-men.

The Focus Of Enlightenment #1

The  Remnant

from  The Focus of Enlightenment #1

Martin Cecil   September 9, 1979

Within the scope of this darkened state there is a considerable spectrum of experience, but all of it is contained in the darkened state. Within the scope of this spectrum there are those human beings who might be said to be honorable; they would not willingly violate their integrity. There is therefore this segment within the scope of the darkened state which may well be called a remnant. It is composed of those who are in the darkened state like everybody else but who nevertheless have a compulsion to integrity: an honorable remnant. In every generation all down through the ages there has been present amongst the population of the earth this honorable remnant. Clearly this honorable remnant, which has been a fact, is completely inadequate to achieve what needs to be achieved to let mankind be restored to the state of enlightenment. If that had been possible by reason of that remnant it would have been done, because they’ve always been here. Occasionally there is this individual or that individual, who might be included in this remnant, rising to a position of prominence in the human world, so that these particular individuals became visible; the evidence of their integrity was made clear. This indeed pointed toward a direction in which others might move too; in other words it would be well if the honorable remnant wasn’t so small.

We may well rejoice in the fact that there has been such a remnant always in the world, but we also may see clearly enough that this doesn’t permit what could be called the restoration of man. In fact, generally speaking, those who have had an expression of integrity in the world have not really anticipated that what they had to offer would do more than be a rather minimal influence upon the population of the world in general. Is it to be supposed then that there is no way by which the true state of man might be reexperienced? Obviously there are those who would argue that there is no such true state, until we have somehow evolved into it perhaps. But the only way that the truth of the matter might be proven out is to prove it out, and there has been a very considerable unwillingness to let this happen. There have been opportunities provided down through the ages, from time to time, by which the required factor, over and above the remnant, has been made available in the world.

We have given some consideration to these things, in the historical sense, before. The outstanding example in this regard was provided by the One called Jesus. Here was the element introduced into the world in the individual sense: a focus of what was needed to allow the remnant to be brought into that greater experience of the reality of man that was requisite for the restoration. As it proved out, the remnant were totally inadequate to the task, and so the opportunity was lost. From the standpoint of Christianity there has been an endeavor to pick it up on the basis of hindsight; but this never works. The truth is only available in the present moment. It must be experienced now. Human beings think of themselves as being expert in hindsight. Because of this expertise they are totally not present now, and so are totally incapable of recognizing, comprehending and experiencing what is available now. As long as any of us are still hung up in the past we’re not present. If we imagine our salvation is coming out of the past we are self-deluded, because what is needful now is now. It is present with us now, to be experienced now, unconditioned by what happened in the past. If everything that we experience now is always colored and conditioned by what happened in the past we never really know what it is that is available to us now. It’s always distorted; it’s always colored. It always keeps us in the darkened state.

There is, then, the necessity not only of a remnant—the remnant’s here; it’s always been here—but of a focus of enlightenment. That focus of enlightenment was represented clearly enough by the One called Jesus. It was available then when He was on earth. It certainly is not available now in the same way. It is not now needful that it should be available in the same way as it was two thousand years ago. It needs to be what it is now. The One called Jesus, who represented the truth in this regard clearly enough, gave indication of the nature of that truth as it should find expression through a collective focus rather than merely through an individual focus such as He Himself provided. He said, for instance, something about “the works that I do shall ye do also; and greater works than these shall ye do”—the greater works being possible because it wasn’t restricted to one person. It is clear enough that, when all was said and done, at the conclusion of His ministry He was left virtually alone, just one person on the face of the earth providing a focus of the true state of man, the enlightened state of man. Everybody has subsequently, from the Christian standpoint at least, bowed down and worshiped that particular evidence of the true state of man, now nineteen centuries old, as though that somehow was going to achieve something. But who has taken the responsibility that was offered?

Mention was made of the spirit of truth which should come, be sent, be experienced: “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” We need to understand the spirit of these words so that we don’t get hung up on the form of them—the spirit of these words as they properly find expression in our experience, in our living, now. Most Christians would acknowledge that they found expression in the experience of the One called Jesus when it was “now” for Him; and He said, “Follow me; let it be so for you.” So here is this open door for the actual experience of something, rather than for a belief which may stir the memory that we need to have an actual experience of something. This is what Christianity has amounted to: something to stir the memory so that we might wake up. But everybody has been content to have their memory stirred around a little, but they were not willing to wake up.

“All things that the Father hath are mine.” What is needful is that the Father should be represented on earth. That is what Jesus did as an individual. He represented the Father on earth. Now He is saying that it not only requires to be done by an individual but it requires to be done by a number of individuals in the oneness described as the true vine. There must be the provision of the enlightened One on earth if the fact that the remnant is still here is to have any meaning. The remnant in and of themselves remain meaningless, except perhaps as a reminder to anyone who would like to be reminded. It appears that not too many have been interested in being reminded. But in and of itself the remnant is helpless.

There has been a tendency on the part of some to bow down and worship the remnant when some individual appeared on the scene of things and exhibited integrity. Well that’s a wonderful thing, but don't worship it. Don’t imagine that that is going to achieve anything in and of itself; it isn’t. There needs to be the essential focus of the true state on earth before anything is going to happen.

Who is going to have that responsibility? Those who are participating in the remnant for the most part know absolutely nothing about it. They don’t know what’s necessary. They may see the importance of their integrity; and they may, if they are honorable people, fulfil integrity in their living to the highest of their ability. But this of itself is not sufficient. The remnant is necessary within the scope of the human population; but without a point of focus, the focus of enlightenment, the focus which makes clear in those who provide it what it is that is necessary on earth so that the essential leadership in this sense is provided, there is nothing that can happen beyond what has already been happening in the world.

Let us see that those who begin to provide this focus of enlightenment on earth see the world from above. They rise up out of their little parochial experience and stand above, so that there may be a consciousness of wholeness first. Then it may be seen how the details compose that wholeness. But unless there is an awareness of the wholeness the details mean nothing. If we have a vision of the whole we see that the whole is not passing away. It is merely the parts that pass away. It is impossible to discover what the whole is by gathering together a bunch of parts and trying to put them together.

If there is to be a focus of enlightenment on earth there must be a rising up on the part of those who are to compose this focus to a level that is beyond the remnant. Those who allow this rising up to occur are content to let the remnant be the remnant, but they do not look to the remnant to provide what is necessary. We know very well that they can’t; it’s impossible. That there should be this remnant is well and good, but without the focus, the focus which was exemplified by Jesus at one point in the unfolding history of human beings, there is nothing. That point of enlightenment naturally must have a consciousness of the whole, an awareness which allows all the parts to be seen in the places where they belong in the whole. Nothing has to be put together; it’s all together already once there begins to be this focus point available in the world; and this focus point is no longer one individual. This focus point of the truth in expression, the enlightened state, is differentiated through various ones, rightly.

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” It is necessary to experience the happening itself to know what it is. It is useless merely to talk about it, to try to explain it, because this still deifies the human mind which thinks that it is wise after something has been explained; and being wise it imagines that it is then capable of directing affairs. Never! It isn’t done that way. Not by physical might, not by intellectual power, but by the spirit of the living God is it done; and that spirit requires those who are willing to participate in the enlightened state now; not to evolve into it—that would never happen! You, amongst others, have presented yourselves presumably that this might occur. There are those who begin to rise up and sense, become aware of, the whole. There are those who don’t. I’m not going to judge you or anyone else. My sole concern is to let it happen, and it will happen through certain ones. I don’t know who they are. You tell me! I ask the question; you give the answer, and the enlightened state of focus emerges.

You can look around—many of you have looked around—here, there, seen this undertaking, the other teaching, the other technique, whatever, all kinds of things round about in the world. Some of you are still thinking that something of value is going to come out of that. It isn’t. It isn’t at all, so why bother looking? The thing that is of value is what comes down from God out of heaven now, not what someone else did yesterday.

What is happening now?

That’s the question, and each individual is being asked the question.

Most people think that they have the right to ask questions. They’re going to get the information from God, if possible, straight from the horse’s mouth! That is an exact reversal of the true state, the true state which has been lost to human experience because human beings have forgotten that they were the ones to provide the answer to God. God asks the question. The first question after that story of the fall of man was, “Where art thou? Where art thou? What are you doing?” This implies that human beings are wasting their time. They’re involved in all kinds of things that are utterly meaningless. “Where art thou?” Of course immediately the human mind has its answer. “Let’s do our own thing”; this is considered to be something great and tremendous, as though no one ever thought of it before! Human beings have been trying to do their own thing for millennia, and look at the mess! “Oh we have such a great civilization, covering the earth! And how great human beings are! Think of all the things that they have achieved. Think of all the technology. Think of all the things that have been done in the healing arts. All the wonderful things that man has done!” All of it—a waste of time. Anyone who speaks truly, from the standpoint of enlightenment, says this. Those who are in the darkened state, sunk in their stupor, will rise up in horror. It’s nothing, absolutely nothing! That’s not what we're here for, and if we insist that it is what we’re here for we simply destroy ourselves. Why waste any more time?

So there are those who rise up to the point of enlightenment, to the point where they may have a perspective view of the whole. Then the remnant rejoice that it is so. They were stumbling around in the dark, not knowing where they were going, really, but keeping their integrity as far as possible. Fine. Wonderful. But until that focus point arises by reason of the action of the spirit of truth the fulfilment cannot come. The fulfilment is to come. It is emerging. It is here now. And there are those who begin to experience the quality and the nature of that state of enlightenment, the enlightened state, the true state of man made in the image and likeness of God; not separate from God but permitting the spirit of truth to find fitting expression in the moment on the basis of an overall view of what it is that is occurring.

Only when there is this focus is there a means by which what is above may come into the earth—the quality of true spiritual government, the true spiritual government which is not an imposition. It is in the form, initially at least, of a question: “Where art thou? Answer thou me! Where art thou?” This is the question that is asked of each one. Of course it’s not something that is answered merely by words; it’s answered in one’s own living. One reveals where one is in one’s own living. Rise up so that you may be able to answer the question correctly: “I am a revelation of God in expression on earth.” That’s the true state of man: made in the image and likeness of God.

Who is going to have the courage and the ability to say that and to be that? Those who provide that enlightened focus are the ones who reveal what the answer is so that others may answer the question. As long as we feel that we are being required to answer the question, we haven’t answered yet. Only when we’ve actually answered the question do we find ourselves in the position of one who asks it, so that one’s life poses this question to all people. Each individual will feel compelled to provide an answer. Some will say No, some will say Yes. It doesn’t really matter which. It’s going to sort itself out that way.

So we see the necessity of this focus by which the restoration of man to the enlightened state may occur. We don’t wonder particularly as to who is going to say Yes and who is going to say No. We let it prove itself out. We don’t have to judge anyone. All that is necessary is to provide that expression of the enlightened state in our own living; then the question is asked; then the answer is given. But until the question is asked again on earth the answer can’t be given. The remnant hasn’t been capable of asking the question. Only this focus of the enlightened state permits the true question to be asked: “I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. Where art thou?” And each one, according to his living, according to his works, as it has been put, answers the question. They can’t help it. And that sorts things out, that God may once more be glorified on earth because He is revealed by man in the true state.
