Entering The Silence

Entering  The  Silence

from   Steps  to  Mastership

Uranda   1936

The true aim of the Silence is to attune one's receptivity to a phase of Being which is not ordinarily within the range of comprehension. We may well ask, "What is the Silence?"  It is not allowing one's self to drift into an insensible state where control of the faculties is relinquished to chance influences.

What is spoken of as Entering the Silence is in reality a change of attunement, so that the usual sound vibrations are not detected and the unusual sound vibrations are brought within the range of receptivity. The person who learns to rightly enter the Silence attunes himself to a world that is new to him, and he becomes aware of things of which he knew nothing before.

You must Silence, or "turn off," the usual faculties of reception if you wish to have any success in attuning yourself to the higher vibration receptivity. This is the reason the process is rightly called the Silence. When you learn to Silence the usual receptive faculties, by turning your attention away from them and directing your attention to the vibrations of Higher Consciousness, you will find that you will begin to perceive vibrations of a very unusual nature.

In this higher state of reception, you begin to experience a blending of senses which is very difficult to explain in words. It is as if a blending of Sight, Hearing and Feeling took place without diminishing from any, but rather increasing the perception of each through the blending. In this way all vibrations are perceived simultaneously as sound, vision and feeling.

In the physical planes, one can see vibrations which cannot be heard or felt; for instance, in the rainbow. But suppose you could hear and feel the vibrations of the rainbow as well as see them. The joy of perception would be multiplied. Likewise, the average person can hear things that he cannot see or feel, such as music. A true musician or lover of music learns to feel the music as well as hear it. But many cannot get the "feel" of music, especially if it is classical. Imagine the joy of a perfectly harmonious seeing, hearing and feeling of musical expression. Also, we can feel things that cannot be seen or heard. For instance, cold. You can see the effects of cold, but you cannot see the cold itself. Suppose you could see, hear and feel cold without suffering any discomfort from it. You can be assured that the result would be delightful. A vague idea of the result may be seen in the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights.

Thus it is seen that the Silence is really a process of expanding the receptive faculties so that one becomes aware of the Spiritual Essence of all things. In this way the door is opened to Absolute Knowledge. A hint of the process involved may be seen in true Intuition, which is a knowing of fact without being fully aware of the means by which the knowledge was obtained. Intuition is a step in the right direction, but the faculties of Intuition must be developed until complete Absolute Perception is consciously induced. When this has been accomplished, the individual has progressed from Intuition to Illumination.

The first necessity for complete entrance into the Silence is a room where you can be free from interruption. A partial Silence may be enjoyed at any time, in any place, but a regular time in the same room is required for full results. A set time each day helps to establish a rhythmic response to Cosmic Harmony. The time of day depends on the Student. The most important considerations in selecting a time, night or day, are probability of regularity, likelihood of freedom from interruptions, and the responsiveness of the Student. Each must make his own selection. Some find the morning hours best. Others have trouble with the mind wandering soon after waking, and for them it may be that the evening would be best. Select the hour when you feel that your faculties are most subject to perfect control, and then stick to that hour no matter what else must go undone.

Some get best results while reclining, but if one is inclined to go to sleep too easily, a sitting position is best. Others get best results in the sitting position, regardless of the tendency to sleep. If you feel yourself going to sleep, and you are unable to control the inclination, stop the Silence at once and wait for another time. After you have found the best way for yourself, use the same position, in the same place, in the same chair or couch, in the same room, at the same time each day. After a time the room and chair or couch will become charged with your Spiritual Vibrations and you will find it easier to harmonize quickly.

After you are in position, relax thoroughly in a comfortable way. Begin to breathe deeply, slowly and rhythmically. Then gradually reduce the depth of the inhalation, until you are breathing as little as you can without strain. Then forget your breathing. During the period of conscious breathing, feel as if you are Breathing the Spirit of God and that the Spirit is flowing down through your whole body, charging you with Light, Love and Life.

The next step in entering the Silence should be prayer. The prayer should be a thankful realization of the Light, Love and Life of God as filling your whole body and the room where you are. Also you should express the idea that you are letting yourself be opened to whatever wisdom and understanding God may see fit to reveal to you, or for which you are ready.

After your prayer, relax your mind and let it be bathed in a realization of the words you have expressed. During this period of mind relaxation you should feel your attention drawn to some one word, and that word is the Word of Wisdom for you during that particular Silence. It may be a word in your prayer, or it may be another word, such as Joy, Peace, Understanding, or Strength. As a rule, the best Key Words of Wisdom are found in one of the following—but do not force a selection of one of them if you are drawn to another word—Father, God, Light, Son, Christ, Love, Soul, Holy Spirit, Life, Radiance, Blending, Oneness, Cosmic, Universe, or Universal. It is best not to try to select a Key Word of Wisdom before entering the Silence. Trust to Divine Guidance to draw your attention to the Word which is most needed by you. Your human mind is not capable of making the correct selection.

When you feel your attention drawn to one word, pick it up mentally with all the love and tenderness that you would show in handling your firstborn child. Without tension, let your perception of it blend into seeing, hearing and feeling. Recognize it as one avenue of approach to limitless Absolute Knowledge. Begin to follow mentally the leading of your one word. Questions about it may arise. That is good. Do not try to answer them yourself but let the answers come through you. Consider the word as a name card attached to a single Ribbon of Light which will lead you to a priceless treasure when you trace it through to its Source. Avoid an attitude of study toward your word, but rather let your attention dwell upon it without effort as you watch it unfold—just as you would watch the theme of a motion picture unfold.

No matter how interesting the unfolding theme of a Word may be, do not try to pick it up again in your next Silence. Enter the Silence without thought of a Key Word, and then take up the one that is drawn to you during the period of relaxed meditation following your prayer. In this way you will be gradually drawn into an understanding of all that you need to know. As you become accustomed to sailing on the deep blue Sea of Truth, you will be able to go farther, and still farther, on the Ocean of Absolute Knowledge. And lo, it will not be long till you have the thrill of seeing the Beacon Light which welcomes you to your Haven, the Port of Illumination.

At first devote fifteen to twenty minutes once or twice a day to your Devotional Period of Realization, or Silence, and then increase the time as you are able to develop mental control. At the first signs of wavering, stop and wait for the next time. No one can tell another how long he should remain in the Silence.

Always close your Silence with a prayer, giving thanks for the privilege of going Home to your Father, and for the understanding you have gained. Let the Spirit within guide you in your expression of prayer. Express what you feel. It is often best to pray aloud in both prayers, as this helps to exclude other thoughts from your mind and it gives you a greater sense of Reality. After you have gained absolute control, you may offer a silent prayer if you choose. Let the Spirit direct.

Prana and the Breath of Life

Prana  and  the  Breath  of  Life

from  Steps to Mastership

Uranda  1936

Let us now consider the Breath of Life. Air is free, but few people use it freely. In the Book of Books we read, "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils THE BREATH OF LIFE; and man became a living Soul." To appreciate the value of air, we must study deeper than the usually recognized physical fact that it is a gaseous substance, mainly composed of approximately one part of oxygen to four parts of nitrogen, which must be breathed by all species of the animal kingdom, including man, to perpetuate life.

Modern science has proven that a force called electricity can be generated out of the air. The fact that automobiles equipped with generators can absorb electricity out of the atmosphere at all times and in all places proves that this force is everywhere present in the air.

The Adepts of all ages have known that this force existed, and they have used it in ways that are far more valuable than the mechanical uses to which it is put. These wise men have for thousands of years consciously used this energy to promote perfection within their own bodies, and to help in healing of others. This force, in its free state as found in the atmosphere, is called Prana in the Sanskrit language. It is this Prana that is absorbed by the generator and transformed into what we call electricity. From a material standpoint it is impossible to determine what electricity is, because it has a spiritual source. Without this spiritual substance the fleshly body would be as inert as a clod, for it is really the Prana in the air we breathe that gives us life. It is the lack of Prana, and not the lack of oxygen, which kills so quickly when a person or animal is choked or strangled.

Prana is the vibration of the everywhere-present Spirit of God to which physical life is attuned. There are, of course, other vibrations of the Spirit of God, but Prana is the primary vibration of the Spirit which the fleshly body can absorb and use. Prana is the Spirit of God which man can use, if he will only do it. This force is absolutely unlimited. It will work through you with unlimited power if you will only let it. Through the use of it any and all adverse conditions can be overcome. When you learn to use it fully and freely you will find that the so-called miracles of healing, and other accomplishments, are really the natural results of natural law applied in a natural way.

Just to realize that Pranic Power is present in unlimited amounts is not enough. You are like a giant electric motor, with tremendous potential power; but unless you know how to "throw the switch" and connect yourself with the unlimited Prana, you will soon deteriorate and die from lack of use. The body is so constructed that it would never wear out if it were properly used. People do not wear out from use; they rust out from lack of use. You have a finer and better motor than man has ever made. And what kind of care do you give it? How much do you know about running it properly?

When we realize that this great power is at hand and that we have the right to use it freely, the next step is to learn how to contact it fully, for the greatest possible benefit. The human motor is self-repairing, and the switch is automatic, so that when something goes wrong in the human motor the current is slowed down until the damage can be repaired. If man willfully, or ignorantly, produces a short-circuit within himself by disobeying Nature's Laws, the power is taken from him according to the degree of his wrong use of it. If man persists in his wrong use of this power, his motor is badly damaged and in time is completely disconnected from the Source. And then he is pronounced dead.

It is easier to begin to use the Prana if we first prove to ourselves that it really exists by seeing it. Anyone with fairly normal vision can learn to see the Prana under certain conditions, and as one develops and becomes proficient in the use of it, the Prana can be seen at will at any time. The person who has received Enlightenment can see the Prana in all objects, whether it be stone, wood, flower, grass, trees, human beings, or any other physical manifestation of life. Many people have learned to see it and use it, and you can also. There is nothing more beautiful in this physical world than to see the life forces vibrating in all things about you. It opens up a new world to you. Everything will be more beautiful, and you will find a sweet peace and joy which begins within yourself and radiates to everyone and everything around you. Even people who know nothing about these things will notice a something about your presence which soothes and uplifts. Sick people will say that it makes them feel better for you to enter the room where they are. Can you imagine anything more delightful than to be of such service to those about you? It is as possible for you as for anyone else. To those who have never given any thought to these things it all seems quite impossible.

The easiest way to see Prana is to go out-of-doors just before sundown and sit in an easy chair, or recline on the ground, in the shade. Face any direction except toward the sun. Relax as thoroughly as possible, taking several long, deep breaths of air. Next, close your eyes and keep them closed for a minute or two. Then open your eyes slowly and direct the gaze up into the sky without looking at anything. If you focus your eyes on some object, you will look through the Prana and not see it. The only reason we do not see it all the time is because we look through it, just as we look through a perfectly clean, pure glass without seeing it. After a few trials you will see that the air is filled with millions of silvery dots, some larger than others and all moving continuously. After practice you should be able to see the Prana as far as thirty or forty feet away. These silver-like dots are not to be confused with such optical illusions as specks or lacelike appearances which are sometimes seen in front of the eyes and which float or dance with the movement of the eyes. The silver dots of Prana will be seen moving in every direction, both far and near, and at first these dots will seem to be in great confusion. However, as you watch and study them, you will find that they are moving in orderly fashion and in symmetrical formation. Once you see the Prana you will learn to let your eyes "rest easy" many times during the day so that you can see it. As you fully realize the constant presence of Prana, you will find yourself working with a force that is as tangible to you as wood or stone is to most people. This eliminates blind faith, because you know.

The brain is the Positive Pole of the human generator, and the gonad glands form the Negative Pole of the generative system. You do not think with your brain, contrary statements notwithstanding, for your brain is a mass of millions of tiny generators which absorb the Prana out of the atmosphere. Each tiny generator changes the Prana into that vibration of Life Essence which is needed in the part of the body for which it is responsible. One vibration is needed in the bones, another vibration is required in the tissues, another in the glands, and so on through the whole body. All parts of the body require the Life Essence, but each cell in each part requires a different vibration of that Life Essence. Each brain-cell generator is set to a specific vibration that is required in a certain part of the body, and that set vibration cannot be changed. Though this is a vast study in itself, this will give you an idea of how the One Life Essence produces all the different parts of the body.

In order for the body to function rightly the positive and negative forces must be in balance. The brain cannot do it all. The gonad glands, connected with the Solar Center, must supply the negative force in amounts large enough to keep the body forces in balance. When a lack of this balance is present it is called nervousness. This shows you why it is so important not to waste the negative body forces through anger, hate, fear, jealousy, or any like emotion. And also, it shows why excess in any body appetite, such as overeating, eating the wrong foods, laziness, drunkenness, and excessive sex expression, are all so very damaging to the body machine. These things all tend to clog up the body functions and cause cross-currents, or short-circuits, which detract from the ability of the individual to enjoy life.

The first step, then, in gaining control of the Life Essence within the body, that thereby the Prana outside the body may be controlled, is to bring all the body emotions and appetites under control. The Law is: No one can attain control over the mighty power of Prana who has not first proven that he will use it wisely by gaining control over his own emotions and appetites. The accomplishment of this will take time and persevering practice. With each step forward in self-control you will find added power granted unto you.

Silence  in  Heaven

from

Seven  Steps  In  The  Way

Uranda   September 14-16, 1932

John, the beloved, tells you how to open the seventh seal of spirituality. This you can do when the first six seals have been opened within you. "And when the seventh seal was opened, there was silence in heaven for the space of about half an hour." All of God's laws work both ways. So the wise will comprehend that silence for half an hour a day will bring about the opening of the seventh seal.

Remember that to find the kingdom of God, or heaven, which is your Astral Body, the dwelling place of the Soul-God, you must turn within yourself, even as your Master instructed. "But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."

Thus are you to find a quiet place where you may be undisturbed for half an hour a day—fifteen minutes in the morning and fifteen minutes in the evening. And there relax perfectly, consciously letting go of all muscular and nervous tension. Then shut your door; that is, close your eyes, for the eyes are the doorways to the secret places of your Soul. Then remember that "your Father knoweth what things you have need of, before you ask Him." Therefore in the silence seek not to talk to God but rather let God talk to you; for this is true prayer.

Besides this, seek in all things to be moderate. Conserve your energies by directing them wisely. With every organ of the body under perfect control will come the ability to control all things. You are allowed to control forces outside of yourself only to the extent that you do control the forces within. Thus will the secret sin find you out; that is, it will keep you from enjoying the perfect happiness of the perfected expression. Thus do you bring into your life all that you experience, whether it be complete (good) or incomplete (evil) in its expression. Nothing is forced upon you. You receive only that for which you truly ask.

Seek then to ask perfectly and you will receive the perfect. Learn also to let the breath of God flow through you by breathing rhythmically and deeply at all times.

Learn to select with care those atoms which you take into your bodies. The atoms which have reached the development of ripe fruit and leafy vegetables will be very easy to control when they have entered your body. The atoms of low vibration, such as are found in all processed foods and meats are very unruly and you will therefore find much difficulty in making them obey you. Choose, then, whether you will make your way easy or hard by the foods you eat.

Remember now the words of James, for he recorded a great truth: "If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea, driven of the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Soul." Ponder this well, that you waver not; for he that wavereth now will be caught in the wave of destruction that is loose in the land.

This brings to a close the Seventh Step in the Way, and there are two Steps more that remain for you.

Step Eight in the Way brings you to a true realization of yourself by the means of personal analysis, which will guide you in making personal application of these great truths and mysteries to your own needs, that you may be a true success.

Step Nine in the Way carries you to the completion of the Way, for it reveals to you the means by which you can gain true spirituality by the Way herein revealed; for he who will may hear with his physical ears the words of God as they are uttered by those who dwell not in flesh.

For these two final Steps in the Way seek out one who is spiritual, who has been taught in the supreme science the manner in which he may understand the inner needs of his brother, that he may teach them to you. Such a one is he through whom I have written these words. In all love and humility will he seek to serve you, because for this purpose came he into the world. By these words do I exhort you, and by these words do I guide, that you be not a partaker of the sufferings now creeping upon the worldly who scoff at my words and heed not these my instructions.

With love I greet you as my beloved, for I am the Speaker of the words of life.
