The  Magnetic  Focus

This is a moment of fulfilment for me, and for you also—perhaps an historic occasion, at least the first time I have had opportunity to speak and to share a service on the continent of Europe, and in France in this particular location at La Sauge. Something quite significant is brought to focus at this time. I was interested to note the date, which is September 14, 1986. On this date, and the date tomorrow and the next day, September 15 and 16, the initiation of this present cycle which we share took place in 1932. This was an occurrence in the life of one man. It might be said that the awareness that the door had been opened in heaven emerged through the consciousness of this one man, Lloyd Meeker, Uranda. Of course the door had long before been opened in heaven, but there was so much human overlay upon that fact that it had remained as though no door had been opened in heaven.

We are told that at a certain point back along the way, a couple of thousand years, the veil of the temple was rent from top to bottom, which is a symbol of a door opened in heaven. However, that symbol indicates that there wasn’t much evidence, insofar as the veil of the temple was concerned, that this had taken place; it just continued to hang there. So, for nineteen centuries it had remained pretty well that way, until finally it surfaced in consciousness in this one man. As far as he was concerned the door was opened in heaven for him. At the time that didn’t mean anything to anybody else, but clearly the fact of it has a widespread influence upon many people in what has subsequently occurred. Once again there was a conscious awareness of what was meant by the opening of a door in heaven.

I think perhaps there have been many, many people down through the ages who would love to have had such an experience, and no doubt many had some experience—there has been something known by people in every generation—but here was a particular point of focus which, while it occurred in the experience of one man, had a great deal of significance to all human beings everywhere, even though at the time virtually no one was aware of it. There always has to be a beginning point, and while that beginning point was established at the time when Jesus was on earth it had been hidden subsequently. It had been hidden behind a facade of religion that obscured the reason for the presence of that man long ago and what it was He brought. It was turned into something else by human beings who sought to use it for their own advantage; it became somewhat political in the affairs of men. However, the fact was that the veil of the temple had been rent, the door had been opened in heaven; and that was available at the time appointed when it might resurface in human consciousness, which it did. We ourselves have some awareness of the fact that it did in our own experience.

I touch upon these matters of history, I suppose you could say, not because it is that important now but because it provides a basis of orientation in something very large that is taking place. We have presumably awakened to something in this regard but I doubt if there is an adequate awareness as yet as to the immensity of what it is that is happening. I suppose in one sense you could say it is not very much, because this planet is not all that significant in the universe, but it is something that is very significant to this whole planet, and beyond it.

So the veil was rent, and I am sure we have all had some experience to confirm that fact because it began to be rent in our own consciousness. There was a beginning awareness of something that had not been known at all before. It has been coming forth through various people the world around, not because something was being somehow imposed externally, although a certain provision was made externally, but what really happened was that there was an awakening on the part of a number internally, a new awareness, a new sense of significance. Something was happening, and to start with probably it was correlated with other happenings that were going on round about. There were those who wandered back and forth through the maze of supposedly spiritual provision that was being made all over the surface of the earth. And what was happening in this rather small Emissary enclave was translated usually as being something similar to what was happening in many other places. Well I suppose in a way there was some truth to that, because everything that was happening everywhere was happening because the veil had been rent and there was something emerging. There was something emerging into the consciousness of mankind that had not been there before, and there were those who were awakening. There were far more who were not. Those who were not were still following out the usual endeavors of human nature, with which we are all somewhat familiar ourselves. But there was something which, I don’t know whether you could say, nagged at us sufficiently, so that we could not quite settle for the usual human round of things which didn’t seem to be getting anywhere. And in these days, in the larger picture, it certainly doesn’t seem to be getting anywhere, except in the direction of oblivion.

However, to the extent that there has been an awakening we know that there is something else happening as well, and we have been sharing to varying degrees in this something else. If there was a real sharing it was because we couldn’t help but participate in the process. Human beings have the idea of being in position to make their choices—free will, it is called. This is a very prominent feature in the human state: we all have to have our freedom of choice. But actually one might say that there ain’t no such animal. It is an illusion. We are well aware of how there has been a following along in the ruts of our forebears; and all the things that have happened in the past, history, is thought of as being very important. We had better learn about it so that we do not make the same mistakes again; but everybody, of course, does, and there is a constant repetition of meaninglessness, leading toward oblivion on that basis.

So it seems that there would be no sense in following along in that course, particularly if one is becoming aware that there is something else knocking at the door. And it is knocking at the door insofar as all people are concerned. There are some who hear the knock; there are others who perhaps hear it but resist it. They are so accustomed to their human habits and their ruts in which they march to their doom that they are not really interested in coming out of that state. But those who have something in them which responds rather than reacts to the knock on the door begin to move with it, and somewhere along the way a person will awaken to the fact that he simply cannot help but move with it. It is not a matter of choice, really, at all. It was not a matter of choice when he thought it was a matter of choice. But finally, awakening somewhat, there is an awareness that the compulsion is such that there is no choice but to move with it.

As this occurs the rent in the veil of the temple enlarges. This is something that occurred in the experience of Uranda as initiator of the process. It had to be initiated in him to have any meaning. It is not a matter of having a good idea and preaching to others about it, which is the usual human approach: “Now you do what I say, not what I do.” The doing comes first, and then we have something to say. So the procedure, insofar as he was concerned, was to do what was needed; then he had something to say. We have all been blessed by what he had to say, not because that was enough for us but because it opened the door of heaven in our own experience if we were willing to let ourselves move with it. That, of course, has been the hang-up along the way: the human reluctance that there always seems to be to move with what it is that is compelling. And there is customarily the attitude which looks for all the reasons as to why one should not do it. I am sure you have followed out the gamut of those.

But finally the point is reached by those who are in the process of being compelled, where one will admit that one is being compelled and that one has no choice in the matter at all; therefore one might just as well get on with the job instead of bucking it and resisting it and trying to find reasons as to why one should not go that way. Of course there are those who are successful in finding such reasons, in which case it is obvious that they have not reached the point where they are consciously aware of this compulsion which arises subconsciously. It is arising subconsciously in every individual human being on the face of the earth, and each one has his own response or reaction to it. It is a foolproof system here, when the sheep are separated from the goats in this fashion. We do not look at each other, or even at ourselves, and say, “Well I’m a sheep and you’re a goat.” Who knows? It is going to prove itself out anyway; and who knows what those terms actually mean?

But we share something which surfaces through people; they begin to become conscious of it. It happened with Uranda, as I say, back along the way; and he provided a point of focus for the development of what needed to happen, which had never happened before on earth. It was without precedent: namely that there should be a group, or a body of people, who would move in a coordinated way with this emerging creative process, being compelled to do so. This compulsion is strong and it does not involve human choice. For instance, I rejoice to see you all sitting here and I have the opportunity of talking with you and you talking with me—together we are talking, I trust. But this is something that is emerging through all of us and we are here to allow it to have freedom of emergence without resisting it, without trying to stop it happening. In that emergence, of course, there is a heart and mind through which to come—and a body as well because we would not have a heart and a mind if we did not have a body—and which are rather cluttered up with a lot of stuff out of the past. We have our individual earthly heredities, we have our specific experiences along the way so far, and all these things are built up, layer upon layer, inside a person. It is not surprising then that the compulsion of spirit, the compulsion of the creative process, is subdued by all these strata on top of it. But the strata have been thinning for some—wonderful!—and it begins to reach a point where the head is above water, so to speak, and we can see something. The creative process begins to emerge consciously.

We have some clues as to how it does this. It says something about it in the first verse of the first chapter of the Bible, for instance, which is the first thing one might naturally read if one was going to give any consideration to the Bible. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” That is the way it works: the heaven first and then the earth. Of course human beings have got it backwards. They want to create the earth first in a way that will make it into heaven. It doesn’t work! There have been millennia of struggles in this regard and it doesn’t work. It may seem to work somewhat for a few people temporarily, but then they go down the drain, because this is not the creative process. This is a superimposition that human beings have established, and this has been very firmly entrenched in human beings. They keep it that way. Everybody complains about it, mind you; they don’t like what is going on. I am sure we have all had our complaints, in times past I hope, about all these things: The world is in terrible shape; look at those people over there who are doing terrible things! But we have reached a point, I trust, where we are not so concerned about the terrible things that are going on over there but the terrible things that have been going on right in ourselves, because there is no change out there until there is a change in here.

So we accept that responsibility because we are more or less finding that we are compelled to do so. There have been those who have not been sure, and perhaps still aren’t. Some of them have not been sure for many, many years. But finally there begin to be those who are sure, and something emerges. Something has emerged in this particular location. It has emerged in other locations around the world, not because of the location particularly, although that has some significance in the matter, whatever that turns out to be, but because of people. In this instance there are those who have provided a focus for something to emerge here and now joined by others so that a certain agreement is appearing in the consciousness of all concerned. But it is emerging here because of people, not because of the place. The place, I trust, will be filled with the radiant substance of the people who are associated with it, and then the place begins to carry increasing significance on that basis. Most of you are aware of various locations on the surface of the earth that do carry that sort of significance because there have been people involved with the process for many, many years—a place like Sunrise Ranch in Colorado, for instance. And that carries an atmosphere, so that anyone who comes there for whatever reason is affected by that atmosphere. They are either delighted with it and they want to stick around or they want to get out of there as soon as they can. There are these two elements involved here—attraction and repulsion.

This occurs, as we are aware, because of what may be called a creative field. It is similar to a magnetic field. There must be a magnet if there is to be a magnetic field. And if there is a magnetic field, what is attracted into that field, which is probably iron filings or something of this sort, will reveal what the design of the magnetic field is. The heaven is there first, the magnetic field is there first, and then what relates to that magnetic field will fall along the lines of force. This is the way our own physical forms were created. There was a magnetic field, or a creative field, established for each one of us, and the substance formed along those lines. Those lines of force were influenced, and even distorted, by the stuff that is present in human beings, more particularly of course in one’s mother because that is where the process is going on, and one will inherit a lot of things on that basis. But there is present, obviously so, a magnetic focus: the parts of our bodies fit together; we don’t flow all over the place.

There is a design which transcends the earthly heredity design and is available—and this is what the awakening is to—for the substance of body and mind and heart to begin to reform along the lines of force. Of course the substance must be amenable to this. It must be as the iron filings are to the magnetic lines of force. If it is of some other nature, then it won’t form along those lines of force and people remain the human-nature creatures that they were before. But there is something available to happen when there is a willingness to move in this creative way. So we find, as there are people to provide a focus for this, that something emerges through them and through their location. There are those in various places on the surface of the earth who began to awaken to this and thought they should go somewhere where there were other people who had this awareness. That may be all right, but fundamentally if one allows what is happening to continue to happen one will provide a point of focus wherever one happens to be, and things will begin to form around that positioning.

Part of the process, as I say, is that this should not happen merely with respect to one person, as it did for instance with respect to Jesus. The disciples certainly never permitted a coordinated body to appear. Even later they did not let it happen. They were scrapping among themselves. They put a pretty good face on it, mind you, but there was disintegration and something else emerged, entirely different. It certainly did not emerge on the basis of the true design in heaven but was a design thought up by human beings on earth. “Well let’s organize things this way, and it will be good for people if we organize things this way.” That is usually the approach, isn’t it? We all have good intentions. And so we have Christianity and all that is involved in that, which is not at all what was brought on earth and is not the door that was opened in heaven. Its value has been that it has sustained a memory of what really happened. One might, in other words, awaken to what really happened, because of the memory. If one did not know anything about it there would be nothing to awaken to.

This has been the historical process that has been going on, until finally the door opened in heaven was once again the experience of someone. But the intent was not that it should be the experience merely of someone, but that it should be the experience of a collective, unified body of people who would let themselves form on the lines of force established by the creative process, and who are not trying anymore to do their own futile thing. This has been so customary, it is such a deep rut in human nature, that everybody thinks their fulfilment in life is to do their own thing as completely as possible. We have noted the rather graphic words in the 24th Psalm: “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein” as a statement of fact. Mind you, human beings do not agree with that. They never agreed with it. They say, individually and collectively, “The earth is mine, to do with as I please, and I am going to make my own world.” This has been the approach, hasn’t it? No wonder there is such a mess in the world. Well we are aware of these things and at least have had the intention to let the earth be returned to the Landlord and let the world, therefore, that is established on earth be His.

For this to happen there must be human beings who are willing that it should—not willing that it should on the basis of some concept that they have that the earth should be returned to, maybe, “my” church or some such structure. No, not to anything that human beings know, but to the fact of the matter which is established on the basis of these invisible lines of force. It isn’t a matter of trying to manipulate the form of things to conform with what one deems to be satisfactory to oneself, which is the human approach. But let us permit this creative process to work. And it is! And we know it is because it puts things together, draws people together in spite of themselves. It’s interesting, there have been people in various groups in various locations who did not get along with each other at all to start with. That is usual, isn’t it? People sometimes do get along with each other for a little period of time, but then something goes sour. So there is something to work out, obviously. But because there was this compulsion which was irresistible it had to work out. In that sense one could say it worked out in a group of people in spite of the people, far more in spite of them than because of them. This creative process is working and it is compelling: Come into line; line up on the invisible lines of force. Of course nothing was said, particularly, in that way but that was what was happening.

Gradually the people who were put together, who didn’t choose each other for the most part at least, found themselves becoming friends. Amazing! Love one another, not because I am bound and determined to love my neighbor: “Now you had better shape up so that I can love you!”, but because love was already the fact. This relates to the invisible field of force, and it is the power of love that is drawing, actually. People come, as I used to say, kicking and squealing as a rule. They have every reason under the sun as to why they should not come and, while I never kept a record, I think I have heard them all! But there is no reason. From my standpoint there is no reason. There is the magnetic force drawing, and here are the lines of force and people form up on them in this way. There begins to be a collective, unified body through which the Landlord can take possession of His earth and create the world that belongs on the surface of this earth. It can’t be done by human minds. It can’t be done by human emotions. It can’t be physically done. It is done, one might say, spiritually, but then that doesn’t mean too much to most. It is done invisibly because the heaven is there and the door is opened in heaven. When the door is opened in heaven we begin to be aware of what it is that is present in heaven, what the nature of the design is.

As was said long ago, supposedly by the One who was called Jesus—it was a quote actually from Isaiah, I believe—“My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.” That is the fact of the matter. That is the state of the earth: filled with thieves who assume that this planet is for their use, without regard to any creative process that might coordinate this planet with the rest of the universe. “No, we’ll take it out of the rest of the universe and claim it for ourselves, and now we’re going to make it the way we want it.” That is an unfortunate way of handling things because everybody wants it differently, and so there is conflict, fighting and war and all this. Of course! That is natural. That is inevitable. Thieves fall out; they start battling with each other. Somebody said there is honor among thieves, but I am not so sure of that. Well there are honorable thieves on earth I suppose, yes. But they don’t think of themselves as being thieves—just honorable people.

So here we have the way things are, and we know our relatedness to the way things are. There has been something very compelling insofar as we are concerned, that sooner or later one reaches the point of saying, Well I am not going to struggle with it anymore; just let it happen. And things begin to come together then. A door is opened in heaven. The magnet is present, the lines of force are present. All that is emerging out of the invisible; but the visible begins to reflect what is emerging out of the invisible. The lines of force begin to reveal themselves because there are those who find themselves delineating them. But in order for that to happen there must first be the magnet, and the magnet must be here on earth where the job needs to be done. We have had opportunity to participate in the experience of that magnet in the recognition that there is a field of force within the magnet. When the magnet is magnetized by reason of our own living—we are the coils through which the current of life flows (it is an electromagnet, by the way) to magnetize the magnet, the iron, which is one’s own physical form, or this collective form—then there begins to be a magnet. And when the magnet is there the field of force is there.

Now this magnet emerges through many people in many locations. There is significance to the locations because of the people. But the people find themselves coming to certain locations. I don’t think anyone, for instance, sat down and looked at the map of Europe and said, “Well the location should be at La Sauge.” No. It just came because of people. But it comes because of people in very significant ways; it isn’t a haphazard business. There is something quite specific happening. There is a vast change occurring throughout the body of mankind, but that change comes because there is the focus provided in the magnet. If the magnet isn’t there things swirl back and forth until there is nothing. We know that has happened in individual human lives: things flow back and forth throughout the course of life, and eventually there is no more life.

Now there is something without precedent occurring, and we begin to have a vision of this, an awareness of this, something vast. It seems to take a little while for human minds and hearts to have enough space to comprehend the largeness of what it is that is happening, so it has been coming in increments, one might say, a little at a time. Something emerges in this location and that location, a few people; it works back and forth. But gradually the magnet puts in an appearance and there is the way by which all who will are drawn along the lines of force. This is a different kind of leadership, isn’t it? There is no one there cracking a whip and saying, “You get in line.” It just happens of its own nature. It happens in the nature of all the people concerned, what’s inside.

We have pictures in the religious field of some authoritarian god sitting somewhere and judging people: they all come before him; he says, “You did good or you did bad, and here is your reward.” Well that is a very human way of looking at things, isn’t it? It is the way human beings work. If you do a good job in your factory you will be promoted; you get a reward. If it’s a bad job you get fired. Well this is all a human concept. The idea has been plastered on to God, whoever God is, somewhere. But God is right here, coming forth through His angels, individual angels, who are sent forth into all the earth to gather the elect, as I recall. Well all these things are very accurate statements actually, but the gathering comes because there is a magnet and there are the lines of force. That is how it happens. But there cannot be a magnet without angels, angels in action in human form. Then there is a magnet, then there are lines of force, then there is a drawing power—the irresistible drawing power and the irresistible repelling power. It separates; there are those who are drawn, there are those who are repelled. We don’t have to judge anyone, ourselves included. Just let it happen and find out. What a wonderful privilege it is to participate in allowing an expansion to occur of this basic magnet, which is happening here. Something has emerged in this location because of the human beings who are willing to let it emerge in this location. Then, here it is, and we discover later, probably, as to why it is here. Of course we can see something now, a very central point in western Europe, and western Europe is up against eastern Europe, and the Soviet Union is part of eastern Europe as well, and that goes all the way through to the Orient, so we’ve got quite a scope here. We can see something of reasons or possibilities, or however you might describe it. And I rejoice that I should have this opportunity to be with you in this location in the process of letting what needs to emerge to emerge, that the angels may be sent forth to gather the elect. Who are the elect? Those are the ones who come along the lines of force. I know in ancient days of Emissarydom there were those who looked around and said, “That person ought to come.” So they went after that person. For heaven’s sake, how do you know? Let it alone. Just be what you should be yourself, so that there may be a magnet and so that there may be the lines of force and so that those who are being drawn may be drawn, and those who are not being drawn may not be drawn.

So it works, and it is discovered finally that it is true that the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. That is the fact of the matter, and it has been a human fantasy to have it some other way. But it has been a fantasy of such long standing that everybody believes it is true and behaves as though that was the state of affairs, and it produces all the miseries of tribulation that human beings have known. But now finally it is being drawn to a close, and we have the opportunity of participating in the process of drawing it to a close, drawing it to a close in ourselves, so that we no longer assume that this earth is mine to do with as I please, or that I can let anything come into my consciousness and think anything I want to think. That is a very strong human state, isn’t it? “I am going to think what I want to think. I should be allowed to do this. It is my right to think what I want to think.” And human rights are claimed in every area. But the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof. It belongs in the whole, the universal whole—part of the whole operation. And we have rightly, as man, a part to play in that. Man is essential to that operation as it relates to this earth. As I have said often, it is very fortunate that he is essential, or I don’t think he would exist anymore. But let him come back, let me come back. That is all that is required, because one can’t make anyone else come back. One has to let it happen for oneself. Letting it happen for oneself, the magnet is present, there are others who are letting it happen for themselves; the lines of force are there and the job is done.

It has been a delight to share this at this time with each of you. This is the way it works, not with a sort of collective mass sitting out there; I see individuals everywhere. We play our parts together individually in allowing the increase of life, the movement of life, to be the experience, not just for ourselves individually but that the body which is forming may have life and have it more abundantly. Then there may be this facility available to the One to whom it really belongs, the One who said a long time ago, looking forth at those who gave at least some little evidence of willingness to move, “This is my body.” Let Him say it again! That is the point. People have been repeating and repeating the theory about bread and wine and blessing it and all this, but never doing anything, just letting it remain theory, instead of providing a body, a purified body, a sanctified body, in which the One whose body it is may live and move and have His being on earth. Now that, from the human standpoint, looks as though one would be lost—where would one be anymore? Good riddance! There is going to be that riddance somewhere along the way, so why not let it happen while there is still life moving in our physical forms and have the experience of what the truth really is. There is nothing more fulfilling than experiencing what really is!
