Attunement

Attunement

Martin Cecil   December 1, 1974

When we think of attunement it is usually in terms of what may be needful in the physical sense to the human body. We recognize that properly this consideration extends to the mind and to the heart, but the physical body is prominent in consciousness usually: aches and pains, troubles of various sorts. The manifest aspect of the human being is, as we know, triune in nature: body, mind, and capacity for spiritual expression. This is the earth aspect of dimensional being. There is also a triune heaven aspect, presently obscured by what is vibrationally between the two. We have spoken of this as the veil and seen it as relating to the heart, the feeling or emotional realm. The word attunement, as we have used it, is concerned with establishing attunement between earth and heaven in human experience. When there is such attunement there occurs what is called radiation. Radiation is present in the heaven aspect of being, but in human experience this is largely unknown because of the veil which divides the earth from heaven in human consciousness. What divides also connects. However, the fact of connection only becomes apparent when the veil is adequately dissolved, when the impurities of heart are cleared. Then the fact that heaven and earth are one becomes apparent. It is the fact now but, insofar as human experience is concerned, not recognized and not experienced. Attunement is designed to provide what is needful to initiate the process by which a consciousness of the oneness of heaven and earth may be known once more.

Because presently this is not known, human experience includes a considerable amount of hell: hell simply being the absence of the heavenly experience—not something particularly of itself, although it emphasizes itself as being something of itself in human experience. However, if what is absent becomes present, then that type of experience vanishes, and one could not say that it moved somewhere else; it just simply is not there anymore. If you have an empty glass and fill the glass with water, water is present in the glass and the emptiness is gone. We cannot know heaven as long as it is absent from our consciousness. We only know it when it is present. It can only be present when what separates heaven and earth in our experience no longer separates but connects. The process of attunement is designed to reestablish this connection. We may see the reestablishing of this connection primarily with respect to the physical body, but it is not a matter that applies only to the physical body. There is a connection insofar as the mind is concerned and insofar as spiritual experience is concerned. All this is made possible by the clearing of the heart, the dissolving of the veil. So here we have some sort of a definition, apparent to us in this moment, with respect to what has been called attunement.

Obviously, if radiation is the natural state in the heaven and the veil is cleared, the radiation extends into the earth. And if we see heaven and earth as relating to the individual, then the radiation extends through his physical body and his mind in spiritual expression beyond himself into the world of his environment. If there is such radiation it includes, amongst other things, radiant thinking and radiant feeling as opposed to reflective thinking and reflective feeling. On the basis of this radiation, which is only a word until it is experienced, there is creative action.

Radiation becomes known as being present by reason of reflection. The radiation of light and heat from the sun is apparent to us because it is reflected—reflected by the earth, so that in what we call the daytime there is light, even though there may be a cloud cover and the sun is invisible in a direct sense. But the reflection is still present. When that radiation is shut off by cloud cover then the direct warmth of the sun is not experienced. When warmth is not experienced we say it is cold. Cold is the absence of heat, although cold, when it is seemingly present, seems to be very much a thing. If you have ever slept in a room in below-zero weather where there was no insulation on the ceiling, it seems as though cold radiates. It is comparable to a frigid weight, almost tangible. And yet if heat is applied the cold vanishes. The cold was not anything in fact. We recognize the radiation of heat, sometimes just warmth, sometimes fiery, from the sun; but we recognize it only because it is reflected from something. It fills the space where it was before absent.

Now this radiation which is present the other side of the veil, insofar as human beings are concerned, has been largely absent from human experience by reason of the veil. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2020/03/thou-hast-made-hedge-about-him-from.html] Something has filtered through; we're still alive. We are concerned to allow the heart to be purified, that the connection between heaven and earth may be clear and the consequent oneness of heaven and earth—so that heaven is present in the earth—may be known. There are various ways by which this may be achieved, but all these ways are based upon this one thing: radiation out of heaven into the earth. In talking about this it remains merely a theory until it is actually experienced. All of you have some experience; all human beings everywhere have some experience as long as life remains; but the clouds are sometimes pretty thick and dark. It is said that clouds have a silver lining, and this is true because the radiation is the other side, but underneath the thunderstorm is dark.

In order to establish the conditions by which the working of this radiation may begin to have greater effect in human experience certain steps are required, steps which relate to human attitudes. Most people think of steps in this sense as relating to techniques of some kind, maybe physical techniques, mental techniques or spiritual techniques. But I am not talking about techniques, merely attitudes.

There is a Psalm in the Old Testament of the Bible which describes something of the required attitudes in a rather graphic and complete way. It actually describes the sequence of attitudes, changed attitudes, which allow what is needful to occur. It is a very familiar Psalm—the 24th—and we might take time to look at it in order to understand what is being said and in order to understand how this applies very specifically to ourselves. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2022/07/the-earth-is-lords.html]

“The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” This is not the usual view of human beings. The individual is inclined to say, with respect to what he thinks of as him- or herself, “The earth is mine, all of it, and the world is my oyster.” At least this used to be the idea; it's not quite so acceptable these days, because so many people interfere with our opening of the oyster. The human attitude assumes, individually speaking: “This is my body. This is my life.” As long as that attitude is held the veil remains thick and quite opaque. The individual spends the days of his years struggling and dying in a state of futility. There may be the experience of hope or expectation, but as the years go by it usually fades and it is considered inevitable that one must end up dead. To soften the blow, which is inexorably in the offing, various theories and beliefs have been developed, but none of them have been capable of dissolving the veil. They just provide comfort for those who exist under the veil; the human condition changes not at all.

So here is the first requirement, which has been recognized by many people over the ages even though the recognition has not had too much effect: “The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” Now this does not require the development of some concept about what the word Lord refers to; it merely requires that there be a recognition that there is a transcendent reality. This goes with the recognition that if there is a transcendent reality there must be a veil obscuring it, because we don't really know what it is. But there is the requirement of turning toward what may be seen as the source of radiation, a transcendent but unknown reality. Because of the existence of this reality everything else of which we are aware is present. All the things of which we are aware on the basis of our reflective vision—the world around us and everything that we presume to be in it—exist because of this transcendent reality. This is a required recognition. If we do not accept such a premise there is no basis for the unfoldment of any further logical experience. There cannot be a logical experience unless there is a true premise. Human beings use what they call logic but virtually all their premises are false, so the results of their logic are nonsense. It all seems very real, very true; it all makes human beings imagine themselves to be very intelligent and very wise; but it's all nonsense, because the true premise was rejected, or at best not really seen, certainly not understood.

But these verses at the beginning of the Psalm indicate an initial attitude essential to the creative unfoldment by which the oneness of heaven and earth becomes the experience. “The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” Everything we are in the external sense, everything that is present insofar as our consciousness is concerned, is not properly capable of being possessed by what we think ourselves to be. If we try to possess it we place ourselves in the position of the thief; and the world certainly is a den of thieves, not what it was created to be insofar as human experience is concerned. What it was created to be was described at one point as a House of Prayer, but it has become a den of thieves, regardless of the claims to honesty that many people make. “The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein”—everything collectively, and everything that we are individually. This is the fact. If we deny it we experience the results of that denial, and the results ultimately are the experience of nothing, obviously so—the absence of the truth, the total absence of the truth. Presently we know a partial absence of the truth, but finally a total absence of the truth, and when we come to that point we know nothing. If we know nothing we are nothing.

So let us acknowledge in our attitude that the earth is the Lord's. This physical form does not belong to the human ego, none of it, none of the systems of it. The earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof; the world of our consciousness, and all that is present in it. It is not for the human ego to manipulate or try to produce what he thinks he wants; it doesn't belong to him. It is customary, and has been for millennia, for human beings to dispute the truth. They say, in effect, “This does belong to me. My consciousness is my own; my life is my own. Get out of my way!” But it doesn't work. There is no victory; there is no success. The inevitable result occurs. We spend the days of our years as dying souls.

“The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.” It is interesting that the earth of the human body is mostly liquid It is the fact of this liquid that makes life possible. If you become too dehydrated you've had it—at least your body has. It is possible to dehydrate a human body and mummify it. It may last quite a while in that state, but it's not very valuable, is it?—except in a museum where people can go and gawk at it. Are not living bodies more valuable? Then they need to be filled with the required moisture, the vital fluids of the body; not only the blood; there are many kinds of fluid in the body. In old age people tend to dry up, don't they?—no more fluid to provide the medium for the experience and expression of life.

But we recognize that water is the symbol of truth, and what appears in the manifest sense of the earth and the world is there because of the design and the control of truth. It can only exist as long as it participates in that design and control. When the control has been finally rejected and the design has been lost, there is nothing; there is nothing in human experience. We recognize that what is called physical substance remains, but it remains because it is transferred to another level of manifestation, where the design is still present. The design, for instance, is still present with respect to this planet as such, and the substance of this planet. Trouble only occurs when the substance is lifted into human form. Then it begins to be taken out of the design; and nothing can exist out of the design, so when it is completely out of the design the form ceases to exist, even though the substance remains. The substance continues at another level of the design; it is impossible to get physical substance entirely out of the design.

So the earth and the world are founded and established upon the truth. The earth continues, and there is always a world of sorts; but in the individual sense the earth finally vanishes and the world of individual consciousness is gone, because there was a denial that the earth and the world were the Lord's. So here is the first attitude necessary: In the individual sense all that we are is consequent upon and belongs to whatever is indicated by this word Lord—a transcendent reality. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2022/07/the-true-holograph.html]

Many human beings have attempted to assume this attitude, but generally speaking they immediately build up concepts about God, about the truth, and they establish once again a world based in their concepts and beliefs. So, while with the lips claims are made that there is the recognition, “The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein,” it has had no effect; they remain in the hands of man. But he may think that by becoming spiritual, or at least religious, he can get around the fact that the earth is the Lord's, while continuing in his own determination to keep the world for himself, all without treading on God's toes. So these words at the beginning of this Psalm do not imply that we should begin to develop religious concepts or religious beliefs; it is merely a recognition of a fact, which we do not understand presently but which we may understand if we follow through in the creative cycle by which we are restored into the state where heaven and earth are one in our own experience. But we are being moved toward that, not by our own efforts, not by our own brilliant intelligence, which, after all, is engaged, or has been engaged, almost entirely with nonsense. Okay, “Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?”

Here direction is being given in the way that must unfold in our own experience. There is to be a change known which may be described in terms of ascension, moving up, moving up into a state of new awareness. This isn't a matter of scrambling up, trying to get up, exerting some effort which will pull us up. The simple question is asked, “Who shall have this experience?”

There is indication of the nature of the experience in the words here written: “the hill of the Lord.” In the physical sense, when you go to the hilltop you have a new view, don't you? You gain a new perspective. You begin to see things in relationship to each other, which was impossible when you were down in the valley. When you are down in the valley things are pressing on you all around. You can't see how they fit together. So here is indication of the need to rise up to a point of consciousness where there may be a new perspective, a new awareness, a new outlook. If there is to be something new in this regard we have to relinquish the old. If we tried to clamber up the hill to stand at the top but decided that we liked the valley view better, so we were going to shut our eyes and just remember what was in the valley, we wouldn't be much benefited by having got to the top of the hill. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2022/07/spirit-carries-us-up.html]

We can't take the old view along with us; so this implies a willingness to relinquish something, relinquish our traditions and our beliefs, our concepts, whatever they may be [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2015/04/this-martincecil-april-15-1979-igreet.html] and there are a vast variety in the world. It's all these things that produce conflict, isn't it? People say to each other, in effect, “You come over and share my view, my outlook, my beliefs, and we'll be in agreement; but if you stay over there we'll be in a battle.” And that's what happens. So everybody is intent on upholding their beliefs, their traditions—magnificent!—their cultures. So good, aren't they? Wonderful! But deadly, absolutely fatal, because the earth is the Lord's; not for man's concepts of his own culture but for the true expression of life, whatever that may be, something that human beings don't know, because usually they don't care. They want their own way; they want to do their own thing; they want to have their own pleasure; they want to pursue happiness. There is no indication that anybody would ever catch up with it, but it's fun pursuing it.

“Or who shall stand in his holy place?” First of all, who shall have a true perspective with respect to the world of his environment from the hilltop? And then, who shall be aware of the holiness of his true being? Who shall be aware of this transcendent reality? Who shall see God? to put it another way. “Blessed are the pure in heart.”

“Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?

He that hath clean hands and a pure heart”

“He that hath clean hands …” He that is washed, sanctified, in the water of truth. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2017/01/sanctification-martin-cecil-january-10.html] He who has sufficient of the right sort of fluids flowing in his body. This does not suggest edema! He that is baptized in the water of truth. He who begins to experience the truth in his own living, not seeing it merely in theory. “… and a pure heart …” by which God is known, not in theory, not in belief, but in the radiation of what He is, His true nature, His true character, taking form in human experience. That's the only way God is known. As long as we have a substitute character God can never be known. There may be belief in some kind of a figurehead but God is not known. “He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.” The soul relates to the earth, the dust of the ground. Where is our sense of identity? If it is what we are in the physical, external sense we are in fact taking the name of the Lord in vain. This is vanity. We speak of ourselves as “I” but who is that “I”?

“I am sick and miserable and unhappy. I am rich and increased with goods. I am this; I am that”—all relating to what is here in the external, material sense. That is taking the name of the Lord in vain. If we function on the basis of such an identity we die; we have the experience of a dying soul, because we are lifting it up to vanity. “Oh look at me. Look at my handsome image. Look at what a wonderful fellow (or girl) I am!” Self-centeredness! Everywhere the soul is lifted up unto vanity! As long as this is being done there is no way by which the truth may be experienced; all we know all our days is something false.

“Who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.” The expression of one who insists upon human identity is, of all things, deceitful. It is said that the devil was a liar from the beginning. Now who do you think the devil is? All men in this human condition are liars. They can't help it; they can't express the truth; the veil blocks it. The impure heart maintains a lack of true attunement. The attunement of heaven and earth is a dream, if it is anything, insofar as the consciousness of human beings is concerned. Lifting up the soul to vanity and swearing deceitfully is the acceptable state in the human world today, as it was yesterday. Those who are in that state and insist upon staying in that state cannot ascend into the hill of the Lord, nor stand in His holy place. They cannot see anything clearly, with perspective vision; they cannot be aware of the sacredness of life—not the sacredness of human life as human beings know it, but the sacredness of life as it really is, the life which is the evidence of the Presence of the Lord, the evidence of the Presence of the transcendent reality. This is what it is, and is revealed for what it is by those who have clean hands and a pure heart, who no longer lift up their souls unto vanity nor swear deceitfully. And let us not imagine that it is only the riffraff that do this—the best people do it!

“He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.” The Blessing of the Lord shall be extended because such an one lives on earth [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2017/05/cosmic-song-of-universe-steps-to.html] and righteousness shall be the experience, right living, the right experience, the truth known. Then it becomes vividly apparent, not any longer in theory, that “The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”

In the quietness and serenity of this moment we are aware, O Lord, that the truth is true, and we are aware of our individual responsibility to make known that truth in daily living, that every thought, every word, every action may be the evidence of the radiation of Thy spirit, which is known as our own. Thy spirit remains unknown to us until it is our own. Then the radiation of life, characterized by the truth of love, shines forth into the earth in creative expression, that all things may be made new and revealed as new by the reflection of that light out of the world of our environment. We are deeply thankful, O Lord, in this moment for the joy of letting this true attunement be reestablished, that the oneness of heaven and earth may once again permeate the consciousness of mankind, all to Thy glory, in the Christ. Aum-en.

You Know What To Do

YOU  KNOW

What  To  Do

Martin Cecil   August 24, 1982 p.m.

This is an evening when the sons and daughters of God have come to present themselves before the Lord. Perchance Lucifer comes also among them. What has been present in human minds and hearts has maintained a state of darkness. Lucifer, the light-bearer, was absent. The absence of Lucifer is called satan. If there is to be light there must be the union of the positive aspect of spirit and the negative aspect of spirit. I think there has been an idea that it is simply the positive that radiates. There could be no radiation, no light, without both aspects of the spirit being present.

There is a well-known formula of which every Emissary is aware—radiation, response, attraction, union, unified radiation. How do you think that the original radiation occurred? We presume that this radiation comes from God. Human beings are supposed to respond to it. But God would not contradict His own laws or the nature of His own being. The positive and negative therefore must be in God if this original radiation proceeded from God. We have taken note of this truth by reason of the fact that man was created male and female in the image of God. So male and female, positive and negative, are present in God. It is because of this that there may be radiation. Radiation has its effect, calling forth response. It called forth response from us and we were attracted toward the source of the radiation, wherever that might prove to be.

Something giving evidence of the source finally came within the range of our awareness—it wasn’t simply an invisible radiation. There has been the invisible radiation present constantly, for all people in all ages, but nothing very much has occurred merely because of that, until that invisible radiation became visible at the level where human beings might most easily respond to it. We have taken note of various occasions when this has occurred in a particular sense down through the ages and there was a certain amount of response, something moved. But thus far it never came to fruition. We have become aware of the way it works.

I would suggest that most of those who are associated with what we call the Emissary ministry actually know more than they think they know. Mind you, there have been those who thought they knew more than they actually did. But there has occurred a conditioning process over the years, making available spiritual substance which has been present with those associated with our ministry and of which they were not fully aware. I am not speaking of concepts about the principles of reality, but of an actual sensing and awareness of what we have called the Tone, so that if one were to act in a way that was off-key one would quite quickly become aware of it. The stubbornness of human nature sometimes entered into the picture, and even though the individual is aware of it he still persists for a while in the off-key state. This is very unnecessary. It causes a lot of trouble and tribulation, for the one concerned and for others associated as well. And it is in this sense that I say that most know more than they really think they know.

I emphasize this point because many things are brought to us as individuals. The inclination from the human standpoint is to judge what is brought to us, to say, “This is good, I like it. That is bad, I don’t.” Well it has nothing to do with likes and dislikes, to start with, or judgments of good and evil. Whatever is brought to us is brought to us. Here is something that we know, really: that we accept whatever it is. If we don’t accept what it is we will find ourselves living in a world of fantasy, trying to live in a state that doesn’t exist. Whatever comes to us comes to us for a reason. Mentally speaking we may not always know what that reason is; in fact very seldom do we. It is wise therefore not to try to figure it out, because that merely embeds us more firmly in our mental state.

We are here as spiritual beings to take care of our creative responsibility in the collective sense, and in the individual sense too. So whatever comes to us comes to us, and it doesn’t require any judgment as to whether it is good or evil or as to whether we like it or not. It may factually be that we prefer one thing to another, but that’s beside the point and should have no influence upon the way that we handle what comes to us. If that comes into the picture and starts to exert an influence upon us, then we will not be able to take care of what needs to be taken care of in the current of the spirit. Preferences remain firmly in the background until we come to a situation where we could rightly go either way. Then we might consult our preferences, but only when we have reached that point, not before.

So we approach what comes to us from the standpoint of Lucifer, from the standpoint of the light which is already shining in us illuminating the way. The inclination is quite often for a person to say, “Well I have no light; I don’t see clearly.” What is it that allows the light to shine? We understand the principle involved. There is the positive aspect of spirit present now in this very moment, and in every moment. It is always there. We no longer assume that this is the source of radiation. It is merely the positive aspect of spirit present with us, awaiting the negative aspect of spirit in order that there might be light, in order that there might be radiation.

Now clearly, following out the formula, there is response, attraction, coming to the point of union. Here is the door opening, through which the negative aspect of spirit rises up to meet the positive aspect of spirit at the level of the conscious mind, so that there may be illumination. Illumination is of two basic kinds: One, it lights up whatever is present so that we can see clearly to take care of the spiritual responsibility, whatever it may be; and the other is radiation. Radiation is now possible because there was union between the positive aspect of spirit, sitting there waiting for the negative to rise up, and the negative which has risen up because there was response, attraction, and union. In that union, unified radiation occurs. There is no other kind of radiation. It never proceeds merely from one point. There always must be the fulfilment of the Law.

The block has related primarily to the subconcious mind and heart,

through which the negative aspect of spirit must rise up

to come to the point of union with the positive aspect of spirit that is waiting there for it.

The experience through which all of you have been passing over the years relates to this matter of the rising up of the negative aspect of spirit through your own subconscious minds and hearts. While you were busy thinking you were learning a lot of things consciously and getting some really fine Emissary views about this and that established—you were distracted consciously in that way—the negative aspect of spirit was at work, unbeknownst for the most part, clearing a way for its emergence through your own subconscious mind and heart so that it might, if not in fulness yet, reach the level where a certain measure of union could occur with the positive aspect of spirit that had been sitting there waiting for it.

Of course the conscious mind has had a part to play. It has to be willing to allow what is necessary to occur in the subconscious mind and heart. It has to be willing to stay steady long enough for what needs to happen to do so in the subconscious mind and heart—perhaps to endure discomfort, a certain amount of tribulation. However, to the extent that the negative aspect of spirit has been filtering through, a little light began to glow and you consciously could become aware of why it was necessary to hold steady, to stay as unreactive as possible, while this process was proceeding. You couldn’t do anything to hurry it up but you could do quite a bit, and probably have done quite a bit, to slow it down, by becoming enamored consciously with other things than the creative process that was in operation. The conscious mind forgets about that at times, doesn’t it? And it becomes overly interested in this and in that and forgets altogether why the person is present. But gradually we have been learning to remain centered without great expectations of anything. Whatever was to occur could only do so as the subconscious mind and heart were sufficiently purified for the spirit to emerge in increasing expression at the conscious level—emerging out of the subconscious levels to the conscious level where the union with the positive aspect of spirit could then occur. To the extent that that has occurred in you, you have a new awareness.

This is another approach to what we were considering this morning. [greatcosmicstory.blogspot.com/2022/08/electrical-substance-and-world-i-create.html] It is not divorced from this, because it is only as there is illumination that there can begin to be a correct translation of the electrical charges and fields of which mention was made this morning; not only a correct translation of these but a clarification where there has been some mix-up in that vibrational field. We have called it a vibrational field all along; this is what was being referred to. And there is a layer of mix-up; there is the layer of what has been called the veil. It was a veil because it prevented the rising up of the negative of spirit from reaching the positive of spirit at the level of the conscious mind. So the conscious mind remained in darkness. What did reach the conscious mind for the most part was not a holy spirit but an unholy spirit, out of all the mixed-up state in that realm, with the result that what one was consciously aware of was a realm of mix-up, a realm of shadows, a realm in fact incomprehensible. With the exercise of the brilliant human intellect there have been valiant efforts made to make all this comprehensible, but you can’t make comprehensible what is fundamentally incomprehensible—which is what has been attempted and has involved a great deal of effort. A multitude of theories have evolved out of all this, endeavoring to make sense out of what was fundamentally nonsense.

So we set that aside in order that there may be a willingness to let the heart be purified, to stay steady, and perhaps ignorant if you please, for a while. Some people became a little concerned about this when they began to see what was happening, that they really didn’t know anything. They didn’t want to admit it. Well what was known in this way was perhaps useful in the nonsensical world, but now we come to the point where we have had a certain willingness to be ignorant. This relates to humility. The conscious mind must be humble, so that there is space provided for the union of the two aspects of spirit. Then the light comes on. When the light comes on, you begin to see things in a new way and you discover that it was quite unnecessary to try to figure things out, because it couldn’t be done.

I’m sure that you have been consciously a bit stubborn on occasion and wouldn’t move until you had a satisfactory explanation—in relationship to anything. Well there is no such thing as a satisfactory explanation in that state. Sometimes, maybe, you have even been fooled by the spirit a little, into believing that you had received a satisfactory explanation, so that you would stop fussing, stop trying to understand. True understanding is impossible until the light comes on, and the light won’t come on as long as there is no space for it at the conscious level and no willingness at the conscious level to hold sufficiently steady so that the purification process can take place below the conscious level. And who is to tell how long that is going to take? Someone may say, “Well I have been holding steady for five years, ten years, and still I am not illumined.” You’re not? I wonder.

This is what I was mentioning before, that those who are associated with the Emissary ministry know a great deal more than they give themselves credit for at times. I am speaking of the spiritual understanding of how, in a practical sense, to handle what comes to one. When something comes to you, do you feel inadequate? Well, not with everything of course; you have some experience of handling things, so in all fields you are not entirely inadequate. But there are many realms of experience in which we function where we are inclined to imagine that we are inadequate. Are you really inadequate? You’re the only one who can do what needs to be done, and you actually know how to handle it. The fact that one may initially feel inadequate is beside the point. Don’t believe a word of it, because it’s not true!

You are aware of the quality of the Tone, and you can look at any situation from that standpoint and know what it is you need to do. This is true of each and every one, because you are never required to do what you don’t know. If you deny that you know it, then you have an excuse, and you say, perhaps, “Well I’m waiting for someone to come and explain this to me, or to tell me what I should do.” Oh no! If whatever it is has been brought to you, that’s your responsibility and you handle it from the standpoint of your already existing awareness of the quality of the Tone sounding in you. You may have to do a little true thinking. It seems to be so much easier for most to abrogate this right to think and hand it over to somebody else: “You think this out for me and tell me how I should handle it.” Nobody else can do that. They may try, and you may be foolish enough to try to act on that basis, but it won’t work, because one must be responsible for what is brought to one, and nobody else can substitute.

It is an acceptance of what comes from the external field that is required. But it is also an accepting of the truth you know, which comes from above; something you already know because you are familiar with the sounding of the Tone. You have heard it in your own living. You have been associated with people who have also heard it, and there is rich substance in this regard. These two aspects, what is coming to you and what you know, relate to the two aspects of spirit. When you accept the position of the point of union, because you are the one who knows what needs to be done in that circumstance, you are at the point where there is light. You have allowed the two aspects of spirit to find union in you. The light shines, and you see therefore more clearly, more vividly, what it is in a specific sense that needs to be done.

Maybe you see specifically that nothing needs to be done. Very often human beings do get hooked up on the idea that if anything comes to them there must be some great thing to be done. More often than not nothing is to be done, at least not in an overt sense. Something is to be done internally, because you are handling this situation in positive radiation by not doing anything. On the other hand there may be something to be done, something to be said; but you find that you are in position to do, to say, what is required when you let it work the way it works. But you can’t have one aspect of the situation, the thing that is brought to you, without bringing the other aspect to bear also, the fact that you know how to handle it.

One of the poets said something about assuming a virtue. One might suppose that that was a dishonest thing to do: “I don’t know it; therefore I would be dishonest if I gave it expression.” But how else are you going to know it? The only way one knows anything is to give it expression, even the wrong thing. So we have an awareness of the quality of the Tone. Give it expression, and that is the acceptance of responsibility in the particular circumstance which has been brought to you. The two aspects of spirit will unite, so that you have the light shining. No problem! Where did the inadequacy go then? It was a figment of fancy in the first place.

I think you are aware that you have far more understanding than virtually anyone else you may meet in the ordinary course of events. I am always delightedly surprised if I happen to meet somebody who really has some true understanding—such a rare occurrence anyway. I’m not speaking of present company, of course, but of those one runs into as one is associated with people. Occasionally someone will stand out. What a wonderful thing, cause for thanksgiving. I’m very thankful that all of you stand out in various ways and to varying degrees in this fashion. I love you for it, and we need to love each other for it.

I asked a question at comment period this morning, as to how many angels populated your world? Or was your world populated by the other thing—devils? I am speaking of people now. What do you see? Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see angels wherever they look. They may be aware of other elements that are present but these carry no weight. The angels carry weight, don’t they? Or do we give weight to those things that we deem to be wrong or evil? I trust not. When we look around we need to see angels because angels carry weight with us, and we populate our worlds with angels—we are in the business of transforming the world, of making all things new. Where? Out there somewhere? You will have quite a job, won’t you? Where would you start? You can’t start anywhere out there and get the job done, because the job is in one’s own consciousness, and the quality of that. So if we observe in our field of responsibility around us some certain thing needs to happen, some certain quality needs to express into this situation, and we think we haven’t got that quality to express, we might think again and try expressing it. We might be surprised, even shocked, that something was brought forth that you didn’t think you knew. Well your conscious mind didn’t know it, but when the light comes on, then you see it with your conscious mind. There it is!

No one is inadequate to do what is required. One might perhaps judge that a person is inadequate to do something that isn’t required. You may have speculated, at times, as to what you would do if you were faced with this or that situation. Well, you don’t know, because you are not faced with it. One has to have the real thing, and then you find you know sufficient to handle the need. It wouldn’t have come to you if you didn’t know what was necessary. Remember that! So we provide what is necessary with respect to everything that is factually brought to us.

So I rejoice that we might spend a little time considering these things in an awareness of the Tone that is sounding. It has been sounding while we have been moving along here. Part of that Tone is an awareness of the way things work. We can be very conscious of the fact that the spirit is moving in our subconscious minds and hearts. It’s rising up and it’s bringing something to the level of the conscious mind, and as it does that the light goes on and we are able to do what we are here to do. I don’t think the Lord has fallen down His provision. Everything is there, if we really noted what we were considering this morning.

The whole of whatever it isspace—is full of electrical charges and fields, everything that’s needed at every level. Our responsibility is just a certain level. We could say that the universe as we think of it, as it appears to be to us, is a human invention. If there were no human beings that’s not the way it would be at all. There would just be electrical charges and electrical fields. At least that’s a way we could describe it; it’s not exactly what it is. The sun shines, the moon reflects the sun. Astronauts go to the moon, and they find the moon there, they stand on it. But it’s a human creation just the same. Mind you, there are electrical charges and fields which relate to what we call the moon. We only think of it as the moon because something bounces off the moon to us, off that level of vibration to us; so we say there’s something there. And because we are composed of similar sort of material, when we get there we can stand on it. But some other being who was at some other level would go right through the moon—and the earth as well, as far as that is concerned.

We live in this created universe. It’s the way it is to us. It is a reflection of something. The reflection isn’t the reality but it may be very beautiful. And we are charged with the responsibility of letting what is naturally reflected in this way be beautiful. We can do it. We have a little mess to clean up here on earth, as we think of it, but there’s no great problem to that if we will take personal responsibility for it and not leave it to the other fellow. The other fellow may or may not do it. There is only one person who can be sure that it will be done, and that is you. Let us all be sure in that way. All that we do is to the glory of God, not to sustain human fancies.

Electrical Substance And The World I Create

Electrical  Substance  And  The  World  I  Create

Martin Cecil   October 24, 1982 a.m.

Once more we have the privilege of standing together in heaven. Thus we may participate in creating all things new. Here are two verses from the 1st chapter of the Book of Job. You have heard these words read many times before, but this is the first time they are being read this morning: “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

As I have read these words to you you have shared with me in the creation of a picture in consciousness. There are some little black marks on a sheet of paper in front of me. Somehow or other those little black marks have been used to create a picture for all of us. Remarkable, isn't it? Some might say there are smudges of ink on some sort of emulsion made from wood. These things can be described in various ways, and that is what they are; but with our capability, and the equipment we have, we have been able to create something which certainly transcends the smudges of ink. I use this as an illustration to indicate the creative ability which we share; we share it with many other people. There may be those who can read only Arabic, we'll say, who might take note of these little squiggles on the paper, but they could hardly be used to create what we have seen and what we understand from what we have seen. Clearly, then, we have the facility for creation.

We are aware that all things do need to be made new. How is it then going to be done? Because some mythical god somewhere reaches down with his finger and produces a new creation? That is a very fanciful idea, isn't it? when the means by which it may be done is sitting here this morning. Perhaps this grouping is not the only means there is, but certainly we are the ones who are here and consequently have the opportunity to bring forth a new creation. We sometimes speak of the earth as being composed of three levels: physical, mental and spiritual. But when we begin to look at the matter, according to the mental view of things at least, we have become aware of something rather different in these days. The physical earth, even of our own bodies, is composed of what are called atoms. These atoms are put together in various combinations; but the basic substance of what we describe as the physical realm is supposed, at least according to this theory, to be made of atoms. Atoms themselves are composed of something presumably, describable as electrical charges and electrical fields.

The words "electric" or "electrical" describe something too, which is unknown. We could substitute the word "electric" for "unknown", because nobody really knows what it is. It can be utilized in various ways for human purposes. This is done, of course, but what it is that is being used nobody knows. So we have a state of affairs fundamentally composed of electrical charges and electrical fields, whatever they are. We do not have the ability to discern with our senses electrical charges and electrical fields. I suppose we do if we get an electric shock, but this is a very limited range of experience in the direct sense. So to make it more useful, presumably, and to make it more interesting anyway, we have the ability to translate these electrical charges and electrical fields into a world—a world which is also a dwelling place.

We have translated these little black marks on the page into a picture, but we have done far more than that. We have translated this electrical world into a world of form, color, aroma, taste, touch; and we then assume that this is what it is. But we really know what it is. It is electrical charges and electrical fields. This is not to say that we have no business translating it into the world. That is why we are here. We have that creative capacity; we can do that. Marvelous, isn't it? We can see, then, that the fact of the matter is that we have created the world. We didn't create it out of nothing; we created it out of electrical charges and electrical fields, whatever they are. And having created it, we then found ourselves lost in the world of our own creation. While making this creation—which we all have done; we have all shared in it; we all continue to share in it as long as the world as we know it exists for us—we may have jumbled up somewhat the electrical charges and the electrical fields. But the basic, substance could we call it? for sake of a word; it isn't really substance as we know it—but the basic substance of creation is in a way quite intangible, and it isn't at all what we make it into, any more than these little black marks on this page are the picture which we see. We simply created that ourselves. We have the ability to do this, utilizing the English language. Other people do it in other ways, but with everyone it is basically the same process, a process of creation.

If we are really aware of this as being so, then we may clearly know that we share the ability to create. It is not something that is unknown to us. We are doing it all the time: creating beautiful or ugly things out of electrical charges and electrical fields. Interesting, isn't it? The world, the universe, which we have thus translated only exists as long as there are those who are present to translate it thus. It could be said, looking at it simply from the standpoint of human beings, that if human beings ceased to exist then the world which they had created would likewise cease to exist—not the electrical charges and the electrical fields; they would still be there, but there would be no facility to create what has been created in the consciousness of human beings. The mind tends to get a little unsure of itself, and possibly somewhat afraid, looking at things from this standpoint. Perhaps we are in position to do so without the necessity of becoming fearful, because it is the fact anyway. We can't get out of the situation. Man was created in order to create. We might say that man was created in order to make possible a new creation for God. But then we use the word God and we don't really know what that is either. If we see how perfect this human facility is for creating something which might well be all beautiful, all functional, all living, out of a matrix of electrical particles, electrical charges and electrical fields, then that is tremendous. What ability we have! Of course we don't have it as though we ourselves produced it. It is inherent isn't it? Intrinsic. We all have this ability and we all use it without having been aware of what we were doing.

As we have come along the way we have awakened to many things. We have looked at this before, but probably didn't see it quite in the way we are seeing it now. But everything within the range of human experience has been created by reason of human beings. The substance out of which it was created was there regardless of human beings, but the creation that has emerged out of that is there because of human beings. It is present in their consciousness. It is an interpretation, a particular interpretation, of these electrical charges and electrical fields and it is up to us as to what the nature of that interpretation shall be. We might recognize that there has been what could be called a misinterpretation, a very mixed-up state, mixed up in the sense that what was originally there in the way of electrical charges and electrical fields has been mistranslated. But in doing that the electrical charges and the electrical fields have been influenced so that there is a jumble, a very mixed-up state. We can acknowledge that. It is the only state we now experience, so it must be accepted the way it is if there is the expectation that it might be retranslated, reinterpreted—recreated, in other words.

One must start, always, with what is present—in this case what is present in the consciousness of human beings; that is where the re-creation needs to occur, so that there might be a consequent retranslation of the electrical charges and the electrical fields which are discernible to human beings. We may perhaps understand that there may be electrical charges and electrical fields which human beings were not created to interpret. We live in an immense universe, even according to our interpretations, and there is far more around than is contained even in our Emissary philosophy!

But we have a certain range where we belong, where it is our responsibility to create. This responsibility to make the required interpretation is possible because we are composed of the electrical charges and electrical fields, in the realm where we belong. We have that ability. We were made that way. And  whether we like it or not we have been making that translation. The way we made it didn't suit us much of the time; we thought it should be some other way. But of course we didn't realize that we ourselves had made it that way, nobody else!—because the interpretation is in our own consciousness as individuals.

Now we have shared an interpretation; I suppose, agreed upon some of the things anyway. But the basis upon which a true translation, a true interpretation, might be made has been largely lost, obscured. Our concern has been to return the facilities for translation to the means by which a correct translation may be made, and consequently the true world once again be created. The creation of the true world requires a right interpretation of the electrical charges and electrical fields, but also a willingness to let those electrical charges and electrical fields which have been distorted in whatever measure be brought back into alignment again. As long as they are distorted it is impossible to make a correct interpretation. The interpretation is bound to be distorted. There are two elements here. The primary one is related to allowing the electrical charges and electrical fields to be restored to their true design. Then when that is done it becomes possible to make the correct interpretation. But until that is done you can't make the correct interpretation. It will always be out of kilter in some way.

Human beings have been very much engaged in the endeavor to change their interpretation, without perhaps realizing that this was what they were doing, so that the form of things might conform to the particular view they had of what would be beautiful, satisfactory, pleasing. Unfortunately, because the electrical charges and electrical fields which composed human beings was out of whack, the view as to what this delightful form of things would be has been contradictory, to say the least, and there has been consequent conflict between human beings. So there is something to be done in a personal sense, so that the composition of this electrical substance might be restored to its true design, which would then be available to be reflected in the world which is thus created. But to try to change the world, which human beings themselves create, without changing the electrical substance could never achieve what was anticipated. It would always bring conflict. And while people have been engaging in this sort of activity with the best of intentions for millennia, the end result is confusion added to confusion, and what has been called Armageddon, at hand—conflict, universal conflict, in the consciousness and consequent experience of human beings. If you have a nuclear holocaust, that is what has been created by human beings; obviously so, isn't it? even when viewed from the very limited perspective of the human state. No one else but human beings have produced the nuclear weapons. God didn't do it! The mistranslation of somewhat distorted electrical substance has produced the world, and this has been done by human beings individually and collectively.

As we have come along the way, we have begun to understand many things, to see with a new perspective. Why would this be, do you think? What makes that possible? Was it our own sweat of the brow?—we studied so earnestly, so rigorously, burning the candle at both ends. I don't think too many have done this actually. No, something has been happening to reestablish the true animating design that is present in the electrical substance, so that there might come again the ability to make a correct interpretation. As I say, it is impossible to make the correct interpretation while this electrical field is out of whack. All that can be done is to make interpretations out of whack, and that is the world: out of whack.

So there is something to be done with respect to this electrical substance, the animating design of it, which has been mixed up by human beings in their misinterpretation of what originally was a true world. Misinterpreting the electrical substance so as to produce a different world also interfered with the electrical substance which was in the immediate vicinity of human beings. I don't think it had too much effect in the larger picture of things, but where human beings are it certainly has had that effect. There is a distorted state. We have said, for instance, that the pneumaplasmic substance—what is that, do you think? the electrical substance—which is closest to the human consciousness has been distorted. And because of that the interpretations have been wrong and produced in human experience a lot of tribulation. The endeavor has been to try to correct that tribulation, which is merely the result of the disturbed electrical substance close in the individual's experience. The main body of that electrical substance has not been disturbed. Human beings only have the ability to mix up what is right next to them.

We have been concerned to let this be cleared. We have talked a lot about this, and about the clearings that are coming and happening. Well there is some little bit of truth in there. But it is not coming because human beings have applied themselves to make it come. It is coming because there is a creative influence at work relative to the electrical substance so that this might be adjusted into a truer design, and to the extent that this was done we ourselves, as individuals, have found that our outlook has changed. Human beings who are usually inclined to boost their own egos say, “Ah, now I am ascending up so that I can see things with greater clarity.” But the fact of the matter is that the person hasn't moved. There has just been an influence at work clarifying this close electrical substance so that the true design might again begin to animate it, and consequently consciousness changes and we see things differently. We are beginning to make a new interpretation of the world.

We no longer assume that the world is the way everybody is inclined to see it—of course it is changing for everybody, in fact, but the way everybody has been inclined to see it—cannot be made in any other way. We don't assume that at all, because we recognize it is a very fluid thing actually, related to our own consciousness and the interpretations that are made therein. If we think of it in terms of what we have translated as physical form, then there is tremendous effort required to get any sort of change to come. And things have reached such a point now that it really is dawning upon many, many people that it is quite impossible to sort it out. There are some who still cling to their superstitions of old, anticipating that by all this human effort things are going to be straightened out somehow. But for many there is the reaching of a point of what one might describe as desperation—utter futility; what's the use, it's hopeless! Well that sort of attitude is looked upon as not being at all commendable, and so there are those who try to hype things up a bit so as to bring assurance to people that, “Really, this can be done,” because if everybody were to accept the fact that nothing can be done, well everybody would be inclined to commit suicide. So it doesn't come quite in that way. And we don't need to be too eager to convince people that nothing can be done, because they would be left with nothing.

There is something to be experienced in consciousness, a change occurring in consciousness, and if it occurs in us first, then we have a particular responsibility in this regard. And it has been occurring, so that we live in a different world to what we lived in we'll say ten, twenty years ago. “Well,” you may say, “time marches on and changes come, and certainly it is a different world. We now have aircraft and all this, TV.” I'm not talking so much about that—although that is an interpretation, mind you—but about the way that the world is handled, about the way we behave, in the recognition that our behavior relates very directly to the quality and nature of the world in which we live. I think even that could be agreed to by anyone who thinks about it. Human behavior has certainly deteriorated, hasn't it? At least it is more visible now as being destructive and therefore as producing the world in which we live, but it could work the other way too.

Certainly as the electrical substance right next to us begins to be sorted out, put together in the way it belongs, because there is a certain willingness to let that happen, then our vision, our outlook, our understanding, changes. And we rejoice in the change but we don't take credit for it. We stay humble. Something happened to us. I wouldn't see anything gained by inquiring too deeply as to why it happened to us. Accept the fact of it. This is the way it works. There is an acceptance of things as they are, with an understanding as to why the world is the way it is, and besides that, an understanding as to how the world can be recreated. It is recreated because there is a change in oneself. From one's own standpoint it is not recreated because there is a change in one's neighbor, just in oneself! One is experiencing one's own state of consciousness, whatever that is, and as that is transformed, to that extent the world is transformed. And if we assume, on the basis of the translations we have been making, that our world is populated by others, then they will be transformed, but only because one is transformed oneself. One then becomes aware of things the way they are and the true world is thus created. And that true world is populated by true people. But it all happens by reason of the transformation in one's own personal, individual experience. One may say it is done alone, with nobody else there but you.

Behold, I create all things new! The word wasn't, Behold “we” create all things new. Behold I do it! It is only when a person reaches the point of accepting that responsibility that anything creative really begins to happen. As long as you are waiting around for someone to change, or for circumstances to change, or for whatever to change in the world the way it now is, no creative restoration can occur. We are all responsible for our own worlds. Did you ever hear that? You didn't believe it. That's right, you didn't! But there it is, it is the truth. And until one assumes that responsibility, so that one's expression is aligned with the true design of the electrical substance, only then will the world change, the world of one's own creation. No one else made it! Someone else may agree with you and say, “Yes, the world is the way you see it.” But that other person won't really see the world the way you see it, even though there may be little things here and there with which there is agreement. Never mind what anyone else thinks or says. Let the world be recreated because you do it, you allow that alignment, of which you are increasingly becoming aware, the nature of it, the quality of it, the behavior which emerges because of it. This is the changing experience of the electrical substance being brought into alignment, so that on that basis you can proceed, in the expression of living, to allow this to permeate what your world heretofore has been in your consciousness. Then that world changes.

This is the creative process. It seems like nonsense to a person who imagines that the only way to change the world is to get an army together and go out there and lop off the heads of all the evil people. Well, they are hard to find! Either that or there are so many of them there would be nobody left. So let's leave that nonsense and allow the world to be recreated in the way it can be recreated. There isn't any other way. We share some measure of understanding, at this point, that it is our own living, our own behavior, our own awareness of the way to handle things, that allows the changes to be wrought. It is never, “Well somebody will do it.” What do I do? That's the only question that any individual has to answer. If we think of it in terms of questions and answers, that's it! And no other question needs to be asked, because we're not rightly in the business of asking questions; we're in the business of providing the answer. “I will demand of thee, and answer thou me” is the attitude of the Lord toward each of His angels. You give the answer! Most people are expecting the answer from the Lord, or from somebody. Maybe somebody just simply represents the Lord. “Oh the answer is going to come from Jesus.” If there is any answer, it comes from you and from me, each for ourselves.

So we rejoice to share in allowing this experience to be known. We are not anymore superimposing on it the futile endeavors that are current in the human view of things. It doesn't work that way! So we stop being futile. If we stop being futile we stop feeling futile. As long as we are being futile, well it is natural that we should feel futile. Remember that, when you feel futile. Let us naturally be what we are, and behold, the word is spoken, “I create all things new.”
